ENGLEWOOD, Fla., Aug. 13 (UPI) — Police in Florida said they arrested a 69-year-old man accused of scamming about $600,000 from a 97-year-old woman who was under his care to buy a Lamborghini.
Investigators said Joseph Cirillo, 69, who became a roommate of Depaulis Seidel, 97, eight years ago at the Boca Royale Golf and Country Club in Englewood and eventually became her caretaker, was appointed power of attorney by Seidel, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, and transferred funds from her bank account so he could buy a $169,900 2007 Lamborghini convertible and other items, WTSP-TV, Sarasota, reported Friday.
Cirillo also allegedly wrote checks from Siedel’s bank account to other people without informing her.
Cirillo, who neighbors said suffers from bipolar disorder, was arrested and charged with exploitation of the elderly.
