ALEXANDRIA, Ontario, Aug. 13 (UPI) — Police say that a Canadian mother and two of her young children were killed in a fire in their Ontario home.
Sarah Cholette, 22, her 3-year-old daughter Chloe and her 9-month-old son Jacob died in the fire in Alexandria, Ontario, Friday, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
The father of the children, Martin Desjardins, and 19-month-old Maxime, were airlifted to different hospitals. The father had about 20 percent body burns, the child had 50 percent body burns.
“It’s like a dream, a bad dream,” Ronald Desjardins, grandfather to the children, told CBC News. “I have to be strong for the rest of the family. It’s not an easy thing to have, to see. It’s something I wish wouldn’t happen to anybody.”
Firefighter arrived on scene at 2:30 a.m. Neighbors said they awoke to screaming from the house, and saw the father jumping from a window.
