Israel Denies Invite To Nuke Conference

JERUSALEM, Aug. 11 (UPI) — Israel denied it received an invitation to a conference on a nuclear free Middle East sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
A source at Israel’s Nuclear Agency told Haaretz no invitation had been received.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s office Wednesday denied a report Israel and other Arab countries had agreed in principle to attend the meeting, Haaretz said.
IAEA chief Yukiya Amano scheduled a meeting with Arab delegates for Sept. 5 to bridge differences, the newspaper said, quoting an unnamed official.
For more than a decade Israel has said it is ready in principle to hold non-binding discussions on the issue but not negotiations. Arab countries have insisted such discussions must be binding, and decisions made under the IAEA’s supervision, the paper said.
