Drug Trial Delayed For Zahra's Stepmom

STATESVILLE, N.C., Aug. 11 (UPI) — Elisa Baker, the North Carolina woman charged with killing her stepdaughter, will not face federal drug charges until at least November, a judge has ruled.
At a hearing Wednesday, the judge scheduled a new hearing Nov. 7 in Statesville, N.C., on the drug charges, the Charlotte Observer reported. Baker is charged with peddling a mix of prescription painkillers and an anti-anxiety drug between 2006 and 2010 and the case had been scheduled to move forward in September.
Baker, whose last home was in Hickory, N.C., is also charged in North Carolina with the second-degree murder of Zahra Baker.
The 10-year-old girl was reported missing in October and her remains were later found dismembered.
Zahra’s father, Adam Baker, who is not charged with killing her, moved from Australia with his daughter after meeting Elisa online. Zahra suffered from bone cancer in Australia, losing a leg to the disease.
Earlier this month, a state judge ruled Baker cannot receive a fair trial for the killing in Catawba County. A new location has not yet been selected.
