JUNEAU, Alaska, Aug. 10 (UPI) — A 60-year-old woman was injured when the tour boat she was aboard was hit by ice chunks and a wave from a calving glacier in Alaska, authorities said.
The woman reportedly lost her balance and fell to the deck of the boat when the craft was rocked by the wave created as the iceberg broke off the glacier, KTUU-TV, Anchorage, reported Monday.
In a video filmed by a passenger on the Tracy Arm Fjords Tours boat and posted on the Internet, passengers are seen ducking and screaming as the wave hits and then gathering around the woman lying on the deck.
U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Jonathan Lally said the guard was informed but took no action as the tour vessel returned to Juneau on its own and was met by emergency medical personnel.
Citing a pending Coast Guard investigation, Tracy Arm Fjord Tours had no comment, KTUU-TV reported.
