Republican Leadership Name 'Spending Hawks' To Super Committee

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has tapped three top leaders with spending-cuts credentials within the Republican Party to join the new 12-member super committee. This group is tasked with finding $1.5 trillion in spending cuts or deficit-lowering tax increases, according to The Washington Times.
Boehner selected Representative Dave Camp (R-Mich.), Representative Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and Representative Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) for the new committee. This move signaled a move by the Republicans to bring Washington’s staggering debt and annual deficits under control, the newspaper reported.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has noted that he will appoint Senator John Kyl (R-Ariz.), Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) to the committee, CBS News reported.
According to the Americans for Tax Reform, the three Senators and three Representatives all signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge indicating that they likely view spending cuts as the solution to the debt problem, rather than tax increases.
This group of 12 political leaders has until November 23 to come up with a deficit reduction plan, reported the news outlet.
