Man Killed When Sucked Into Plane Engine

BLENHEIM, New Zealand, Aug. 8 (UPI) — An aircraft engineer was killed Monday when he was sucked into a turbojet engine at an airbase in New Zealand, authorities said.
TVNZ reported Miles Hunter, 51, of Renwick was testing a Rolls Royce T56 Turbo Prop engine at Woodbourne Airbase near Blenheim when the accident occurred. Hunter worked for Safe Air, a subsidiary of Air New Zealand that runs a maintenance service for the military, the TV network said.
New Zealand’s 3News reported an investigation was under way to determine what went wrong.
“Very experienced people involved, so at this stage we haven’t yet been able to unravel and establish exactly what caused this tragedy,” Safe Air chief executive Rob Fyfe told 3News.
“This was an engine that was in a stand that houses it during this test and the engine is controlled from a control booth.”
