Ex-cop Sentenced To 1 Year In Prison

NEW YORK, Aug. 8 (UPI) — A former New York City police officer was sentenced to a year in prison Monday for spending time at a woman’s apartment when he was supposed to be on duty.
The former officer, Kenneth Moreno was given the sentence for his conviction on three misdemeanor misconduct charges related to several visits to an intoxicated woman’s home in the East Village, The New York Times reported.
“During your testimony,” Judge Gregory Carro of State Supreme Court in Manhattan said to Moreno, “you told a story that was incredible. Your testimony was classic for admitting what you couldn’t deny, denying what you couldn’t admit and classic tailoring of your testimony to the witnesses who testified before you.”
Moreno and his partner, Franklin Mata, who also was found guilty on the minor counts, were acquitted of rape charges in May.
Mata’s sentencing was pushed to Wednesday after his lawyer was unable to appear in court Monday because of scheduling conflicts, CNN reported. Like Moreno, Mata faces up to two years in jail.
