Canadian Town Assesses Tornado Damage

SAINTE-ELISABETH-DE-PROULX, Quebec, Aug. 8 (UPI) — People in Sainte-Elisabeth-de-Proulx, Quebec, spent Monday cleaning up and beginning repairs after a weekend tornado hammered the area, officials said.
The F1 storm damaged buildings and blew down trees Saturday night, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
“It was incredible; it wasn’t one tree after another; it was three, four, five at the same time,” said Judith Mercier, who fled her trailer home after a tree hit it and then saw her van smashed by another falling tree.
Officials were trying to determine whether another town in the area, Saint-Ludger-de-Milot, was hit by straight-line winds or another twister.
No injuries were reported in either community.
