U.K. To Return Four Ancient Items To Egypt

CAIRO, Aug. 7 (UPI) — Egyptian officials say four antiques from the 1300s BC will be returned by British authorities who seized them from a collector who had tried to sell them.
The items had been removed from the base of a statue of King Amenhotep III at his tomb in Luxor and recently turned up at a British auction house, al-Masry al-Youm reported Saturday.
Amenhotep III was the ninth pharaoh of Egypt’s Eighteenth dynasty. He ruled from 1391-1353 BC.
The Supreme Council of Antiquities said in a written statement the items included a cartouche and four heads with Asian features.
They were brought to the London auction house by an American amateur collector looking to sell them.
They were discovered by a trustee of the British Museum who stopped the auction and confirmed the pieces were genuine, the newspaper said.
