DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio, Aug. 4 (UPI) — An 18-year-old Ohio man fatally shot his former girlfriend at a pet care store where she worked before killing himself, police said.
Amanda Borsos, of Salem Township, died at a hospital after being shot in the torso on her 17th birthday Wednesday while working in an outdoor dog pen at Four Paws Pet Care, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Cincinnati Inquirer reported Troy Penn, who “was described as being upset when Ms. Borsos recently ended their relationship,” shot himself in his home about two hours later after SWAT team members failed to make direct contact with him. Dispatchers had told officers the father of the suspect called police and reported his son had shot Amanda with a shotgun.
A shotgun was found near Penn’s body, police said.
Friends of Amanda created Facebook pages in her memory, and grief counselors were sent to her school, Little Miami High, as well as Penn’s, Kings High on Thursday.
Kings High Principal Doug Mader said Penn was well-liked. “The Kings community is grieving for the Borsos and Penn families,” he said.
