Highway Closed For Bee Cleanup

KILLAM, Alberta, Aug. 4 (UPI) — A rural Alberta highway was closed after a flatbed truck rolled onto its side, spilling its load of 104 beehives across the road, officials in Canada said.

The truck was travelling between Camrose and Killam Thursday when it skidded off the road, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Police had to shut down the highway for cleanup, which was made difficult by the swarming honeybees.

A beekeeper who arrived on the scene advised the fire department to spray the bees with water and foam, which killed many of the bees, police said.

Beehives that survived the crash were transported back to their home.

The driver of the truck was not seriously injured.
