From Kidnap ‘victim’ To Robbery Suspect

ANTIOCH, Calif., Aug. 4 (UPI) — A 16-year-old Antioch, Calif., boy was arrested on suspicion of involvement in a robbery at his workplace during which he was purportedly abducted, polie said.
Police suspect the teenager and Eric Lerone Walker, 23, came up with the plan to rob Al’s Barber Shop, where the 16-year-old works, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
The boy was thought to have been kidnapped during the robbery but he admitted to police he faked the kidnapping to cover up his involvement in the robbery, police Capt. Leonard Orman said.
The robbery took place Monday. A robber, who police believe to be Walker, held up the barbershop, taking owner Al Holmes’ watch, $200 worth of jewelry and shop keys while Holmes was in the store alone. Then the teen walked in and was presumably forced at gunpoint to drive Holmes’ 1996 GMC Yukon away from the scene.
Tuesday afternoon, the teenager denied to the shop owner any involvement in the robbery, but when questioned by the police, he admitted his part in the scheme.
Walker was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of robbery, carjacking, conspiracy and possession of a dangerous weapon. A sawed-off shotgun, believed to be the weapon used in the holdup, was found at the location of Walker’s arrest, as was the stolen property, the newspaper said.
