100 Chickens Run Loose On The Interstate

ATLANTA, Aug. 4 (UPI) — Authorities in Atlanta said a section of northbound Interstate 285 was closed for 45 minutes while they rounded up about 100 chickens freed by a crash.
Keith Turner, who was pulling tandem trailers filled with household products, said rain created a hazard on the road between Interstate 20 and the Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and his rear trailer overturned, striking the chicken truck driven by Dennis McCoy, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday.
Authorities said the northbound lanes were closed for about 45 minutes while they and McCoy worked to round up the 100 chickens, which were only a small portion of the 4,000 the truck was carrying to a Marietta processing plant.
Atlanta fire Battalion Chief Bryant Tate said authorities were concerned the weed killer being carried by Turner could cause a hazmat incident but the chemicals were found not to pose any danger.
Turner suffered the only reported injury, a sprained ankle.
