KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 3 (UPI) — Dozens of Missouri state troopers searched in the northwestern portion of the state for a missing trooper believed drowned, authorities said.
Frederick Guthrie, 46, disappeared while on flood duty in the area of Big Lake in northwest Missouri, The Kansas City (Mo.) Star reported.
Guthrie’s patrol vehicle was found abandoned Monday afternoon with his boat still in tow. The body of his dog, Reed, was recovered Tuesday evening some 50 yards from the vehicle.
Authorities said Guthrie was apparently swept away by floodwaters.
He was awarded the state Medal of Valor in 2008 for rescuing a woman who was clinging to a buoy after being thrown from her boat during a storm, CNN reported.
Authorities said the search for Guthrie’s body would continue Wednesday.
