For all intents and purposes, John Boehner appears to be an honorable man. If he has a fault, it is that of all Republicans these days: the Republican party has been the underdog for so long that Republicans have lost sight of the fact that compromise is not a solution and never has been. It is a temporary cease-fire waiting on a permanent solution. The high ground in any compromise goes to those with the fortitude to employ absolute recalcitrance to any form of compromise until there is a settlement. Republicans have become so sensitive to being labeled the ‘party of no’ that they have forgotten that saying no is the very tool that can put them back on top. If Republicans had been uncompromising–genuinely uncompromising, not just in appearance–the Republic may have faltered but no one would have forgotten that Democrats had the upper hand and refused to compromise. Now, that opportunity has been lost.

I must say that the republicans were between a rock and hard space. But they did this to themselves. They should have stuck to their guns but I believe they operated out of fear. Fear that they would be blamed for a default ,which would not happen based on what they did. All they did was give each other cover and the American people got screwed. How gutless are all in congress not to deal with the problem. All we got is 8 trillion in more debt and higher taxes. Both of these and the fact that Obama does not have to deal with this next year seems to me a great victory for Obama and the democrats.

This compromise bill is TRULY evil. $900 billion in NEW DEBT in the next six months, or so, and $1000 billion or so in reduced expenditures over TEN YEARS. (As if THAT was believeable.) YOU FIGURE OUT THE ARITHMETIC. These figures should be ONE-TO-ONE if there is to be ANY progress. For example, $100 billion in NEW DEBT in the next month and $100 billion in reduced expenditures IN THE NEXT MONTH. Now we are talking.

Everybody in Washington assumes that interest rates will remain at artificially low levels for the rest of this decade. The interest rate that the U.S. paid on its total marketable debt in the month of June was only 2.38%. Exactly one decade earlier, in June of 2001, we paid 6.162% interest on our total marketable debt or 159% higher than current average interest rates. On August 15th we owe our next interest payment of approximately $30 billion. Imagine if that payment rises 159% higher to $77.7 billion or $932.4 billion annualized. Later this decade, interest rates will not only rise back to normal levels like we had in 2001, but will likely rise to artificially high levels to balance out the damage being created today from artificially low interest rates.

Well, it looks like everything is normal in Washington, and nothing has really changed. Government is growing,and spending is increasing.Next we will get the VAT tax, because we admire Europe and want to be like the rest of the world. It also brings in tons of money for the government. If you think VAT is like another”sales tax” think again. It will raise consumer goods by at least 30-40%.

I also think the libs, as dumb as they are will vote Obama into office for another term,and they can do it, because they outnumber conservatives. Of course this will sink our ship straightaway.

Basically what this means as unless the majority of Americans put right and left aside, and think about the whole, and standup and fight, it is all lost. I’m talking about a situation like is happening in Lybia to remove an unwanted leader. Problem is that we need to remove over 500 to even make a dent in the problem. It will take violence, as nothing else has or will work to stop the rate of government growth.

raising the debt ceiling is not an unprecented move. It has to be done or we will default. Can you even imagine what a quagmire we’ll be in if we default?
spending needs to be cut and there’s a whole bunch of “czars” that can clear up some money.
Leave social security and medicare alone, these are not “entitlements” we’ve all been paying into these programs since our first job. But the government needs to quit dipping into it for other than what it was designed for.

For most of the last 60 years or so the Demos have had control of the Congress. (Not the Presidency) Their idea of compromise is “what can you do for me personally?”

The Republicans have had to work with that system. They agree to different programs just to get the Demos to vote for something they want.

Now isn’t any difference. Boehner wants something so he’s willing to pay off the Demos to get something passed. The Demos expect it. Neither side is able to even consider Boehner saying, “No, we won’t do that.”

So I’m not surprised when the Tea Party isn’t happy with him and the older GOP members who know only how to pay off the Demos.

If it weren’t for the Tea-Party we would have already collapsed.

The best we can do is hope that the GOP House will not cave in too much. We really need to drastically cut spending. Of course, most of the blame should be placed where it belongs – on the reckless spending socialist Democraps. But so many ignorant voters will blame the GOP, and vote for more democraps in the future; oblivious to the fact that the Democraps only make bad situations worse. The elections of 1976, 1992, 2006 and 2008 prove this!! PEOPLE NEED TO WAKE UP!! Again I must say: My understanding is that the $800+ billion stimulus/porkulus bill signed by BHO some 2 ½ years ago was added to the baseline of all future budgets. Since the porkulus bill has been a proven failure, why not take it out of all future FY budgets?? Eliminating porkulus alone would reduce annual deficits by nearly 50%, and reduce national debt by $8 trillion over a decade. To achieve this, it’s obvious that we need to take back the White House, and defeat a lot more democraps in Congress and the Senate next year. And of course, we should try to defeat RINOs and GOP wimps in the primaries. But in the general November election, think about this: “Friends don’t let friends vote for Democraps!!”

I think Americans have grasped that our govt wastes money. Dems want to increase taxes and keep wasting. Repubs want to maintain taxes and cut spending. Because Dems still have control of the Senate and Presidency, compromise is our only option. The Tea Party is standing firm on their beliefs. Fortunately, this hasn’t hindered a deal. It’s probably good politics, as voters who are sick of govt waste will vote for the fiscally-focused candidates. When Repubs take over control in 2012, they can have a bigger impact of fiscal sanity.

Joyce, you agree with the demos that the debt agreement “is nothing but a sugar coated satan sandwich.”? I assume you understand the demos wanted even MORE on that sandwich. It does not appear to be a reason to support the demos.

The debt ceiling agreement (as of Aug 31, 2011) is a veil of deceit offered by Obama and the Dems to give an illusion that all is fine until they get Obama, the Great Socialist, reelected. There are no significant budget cuts until 2013 offering the illusion that all is fine while the country continues to swim in deeper debt. I’m sorry to say that now I hope the deal fails and the Country is forced to face the fact of our economic bankruptcy. My only fear is that the Tea Party and Republicans will be blamed by the liberal press and the Dims.

Joyce, the members of congress have, as a group, had fabulous increases in their personal wealth during the past. Much of that wealth is in equity from MBS’s that congressional actions have helped blow into a bubble. Increasing the national debt gives the FR more money to continue to prop up the financial institutes that, even after QE1 and QE2, are on the edge of bankruptcy. Congress is protecting its personal wealth.

You know, you vote these people into office based on their descriptions of their positions. Once they arrive in D.C., it seems their whole view changes. What is it that happens in D.C.? Are there secrets that the average American tax paying citizens do not know? Yes, I am sure, but there must be something horrendous that is being kept from us that could change the conservative politician into an unrecognizable creature. As a working person who has the government force us to give them our money, with threat of imprisonment, I want to know what is going on? Why are we drowning in debt, while passing money out to other countries, bailing out banks and insurance companies? The TARP did not work, our citizens are unemployed still, at a higher rate. The cost of food and gasoline is crippling Americans. And now, we will be $2.2 trillion dollars MORE in debt than before. This can not go on. If we can’t pay our debts with $14 trillion, imagine how hard it’s going to be to pay $16 trillion, with another increase in the debt ceiling scheduled to go up AFTER the elections. Uh, Doc, I’d recommend that you re-read the article with a much clearer mind. They DID NOT cite a Fox News poll. Fox News merely reported “The Tea Party Patriots conducted an informal poll”. This unfortunately is how things get intentionally twisted/spun off in different directions that does not correctly pertain to the main subject matter.

CNN and FOX are both part of the socialist establishment. The only significant difference is that one is even worse than the other.

If they are going to cite a Fox News poll then I can bring up the CNN poll that shows a vast majority of Americans blame Republicans for our current debt crisis.
