Delta To Give Tax Refunds To Some Fliers

ATLANTA, Aug. 1 (UPI) — Delta Airlines said Monday it would refund federal taxes collected for tickets during a partial shutdown of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.
The refund fits a small slice of fliers; it is applicable only to fliers who bought tickets before July 22 for flights beginning on or after July 23 and “prior to the reinstatement” of FAA funding, the airline said.
The airline said the IRS had recommended the refund. The airline said it is “awaiting guidelines from the IRS on the process of providing the refunds. However, in order to streamline the process, the airline will process refunds directly for customers once an agreement is reached with the IRS,” the carrier said in a statement.
The FAA was forced to shut down non-essential services in late July, when Congress failed to extend its funding.
