Obama could face primary challenge from own party

July 28, 2011 by

Obama may be challenged in the primaries.Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is calling for a Democrat to challenge President Barack Obama in a primary election, according to Fox News. Sanders told radio talk show host Thom Hartmann that the President has been able to move too far to the right because no Democrat has stood up to him, reports the news source.

Sanders’ claims indicate a growing concern of Democrats. Some liberals are concerned that Obama is too willing to appease Republicans in debt negotiations, even at the expense of cutting programs such as Social Security, according to the media outlet.

According The Hill, Sanders stated his belief that if unchallenged, the President will continue to drift toward right-wing positions. “I think it would do this country a good deal of service if people started thinking about candidates out there to begin contrasting what is a progressive agenda as opposed to what Obama is doing,” Sanders told Hartmann, according to the news source.

Although Sanders has not volunteered himself as a challenger, he said he would encourage someone else to run, according to Fox News. As of yet, no Democrats have stepped up to take on the incumbent President, although former Senator Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) has been considered by some as a possible candidate, reports The Hill. However, Feingold’s spokesmen have said that he supports the re-election of Obama.

If we taxed the wealth 100% of their income it wouldn’t even make a dent in the debt this country has racked up. It is true that the debt ceiling has been raised many time by many presidents and it started before Regan.. However, it is now totally out of control and we are in serious danger of becoming a bankrupt nation if we don’t curb spending. So we can call each other idiots and morons or we can figure out a real solution which common sense and common practice for the many indicate that spending has to be seriously reduced. So let’s stop all this finger pointing and bs. We are here can’t change that, we need to do something about it NOW!

    • Rusticus

It is not out of control at all. The so-called “debt crisis” is simply a ploy by the right to destroy social security and medicare. Period.

If there really were a “debt crisis” tax increases on the wealthy would be part of the discussion. They aren’t = it isn’t.

    • Bill

Your so right if we taxed the wealth of the wealthy we wouldn’t balance the budget. We would also have to get out of 2 wars we shouldn’t be in. Take away tax breaks for corporations tax breaks to move out of the country. Also get good paying jobs for all the people that worked in the 58,000 factories that moved out of the country (a lot of tax money went with them). Then we could talk the Debt fairly.
i’ve never heard of a country that has paid to have their Corporations to leave. Have you? After that complain where are the jobs.

      • Thinking About

Wonderful post, plain common sense, wish reasonable ideas drove our Congress.

I am sick & Tired of LABELS! What the person says & Does is that persons Responsibility! Most of the time, I can only judge the acts, of The Actor! Than real & not real! In Priorities!…

  • oldtimeyman

IF Ovomit, Bowney Fwank, Pelosi, Bernie Sanders, Chuckie Schumer et.al., take one more step to the left they will fall off the earth.

They, and many others on capitol hill, are “progressives” – the new code word for communism/fabian socialism.

  • Cathy

My only question is…why do the people of Vermont keep reelecting this piece of crap? He’s two days older than dirt and bordering on insanity.

    • Rusticus

They are so naive. They still value personal integrity and they seem to like the fact that he acts in their best interest and not in the best interests of Wall Street.

      • Bill

Your right. How can he think of the people first instead of Wall Street. To Hell with what the people want.

      • Raggs

If you want it.. get a job! Pretty easy but 50% say the hell with working.

      • Rusticus

Your number’s wrong, Raggs. The leaches on Wall Street and the Locusts in corporate executive suites don’t make up anywhere near 50%. It is 5% or less.

  • ONTIME

It really pains me to hear the way the Oval Office is demeaned but I understand. The office of the POTUS is usually held by a person of earned respect and can lead by example, in this case we do not have a man in the office but a marketed fraud and a man with apparently “NO Credentials”, he is reffered to as the Mystery Man or more recently that eff’n uncredentialed N’word in the White House, there is no respect for this self aggrandizing clown who’s inept thoughtless ways gain this country a black eye in just about every way possible.

This must never happen again and steps will be taken to make it so, the vetting process will make the candidate produce those vital credentials that were ignored by the failing MSM. This man set no precedent but those who were responsible for upholding the law were nothing more than grossly negligent.

  • s c

Make that a ‘B.” I was in a hurry, and my progressive-made keyboard needs to be replaced.

  • s c

If no one has thought about it yet, there’s a twit on this topic who obviously gets paid on a per-entry basis. Get a life, T.
And when Vermont gets enough guts to ship Sanders off to Cuba, do America a favor and go with that miserable puke. Remember, “great minds” think alike, so it would be a shame to keep you away from Sanders and his version of heaven on earth.

  • Bill

The people run the economy. If people buy it means more orders which in turn usually demands more people. So if we keep wanting to take away from the consumer we’ll never get out of this situation. Now really isn’t the time to talk debt. After you get full employment we should be talking the debt.

    • Raggs

Nope won’t work… Thats called CAPITOLISM and oblama hates it.

  • powerman

The debt started in the Bush erra, but the senate and HR was controlled by the Democrates, that is who ran the Debt up.

    • Bill

I hate to inform you but 6 out of 8yrs the Republicans were in control.

      • ValDM

        Bill,
I’m surprised at your lack of critical thinking skills. Let’s see, the D’s were in charge of Congress the last 2 yrs of GWB & we had another 2 yrs of D’s where spending skyrocketed during those very long 4 yrs. In fact, the last budget that was approved was by out-going GWB in 2007 for fiscal year 2008 when YOUR very left-leaning prez took over. Since the time of the O’boy’s inauguration, WE HAVEN’T HAD A BUDGET!!!! He & his D contingent has been spending us into penury. As an aside to all this, the R’s have chosen to bend over & spread for every half-baked idea coming down the pike as long as it means spending more. Don’t you get it yet? THER IS NO SOLUTION………….We’re ALL screwed.

      • Bill

Obama hasn’t spent nowhere near what the Texas Ranger or the good old boy spent in their terms. As for the Dems being in control for 2 yrs. under Bush, i guess you have to blame the President then.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        billy boy,
show a government site that says that!!!

  • steve in AZ

Anyone who had a large pizza for dinner one night and a cup of coffee before breakfast the next morning could easily “fill his shoes” with a substance that is far superior to what’s filling them now.

DONATE AND VOTE RON PAUL 2012!!!

    • Bill

Ron Paul now ther’s a real winner. or how about that newly made multi millionare Sarah maybe another good one could be Michelle That’s the ticket Sarah for President and Michelle for Vice President what a combination.

      • steve in AZ

Yes. A REAL winner. Not a Weiner flashing pedophile such as you libturds send to congress.

      • Bill

HaHaHa now that’s funny. The Party that lives in a glass house throwing stones.

  • Bill

If you look at all the States with newly elected Republicans. I don’t think they are listening to the people. It looks more like they are being Dictators.

    • Raggs

Your going to fall off of the side of the earth being as left as you are.. but at least oblama will keep you company.

      • Bill

I think you watch to much Rush And Glenn also Fox News. You should be a comedian

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Raggs,
Bill’s got the whole thing figured out and it’s so simple!!!! If everyone would just quit watching Murdoch channels, everything would be just fine and peachy keen!!! What a plan!!! BILL FOR PRESIDENT!!!
        NOT!!!!!!

    • Bob

You must be from another planet or you are just grossly ignorant. Maobama is talking about ignoring the constitution and forcing a budget deal on America just like any other tinpot dictator and you have the nerve to call Republicans who obey the rule of law dictators? And what is wrong with being rich? Is it because your are a typical loser whose only way to riches is winning the lottery?

      • Bill

I’m sorry your so misinformed, to much Rush and Glenn and way to much Fox News. I’m not against being wealthy ,i just think they should be paying their fair share. It’s kind of sad when the wealthy and our Corporations that are left in this great American Country pay a less % than the average person does. I read an article in Forbes magazine that said our tax rates on busineses is one of the highest in the world, but after they take their writeoffs were one of the lowest in the world. If that’s being against the wealthy,i guess i am.

      • Raggs

What was it that oblama said…. I will not make the 50% of the population that does not pay taxes pay an income tax until the other 50% that pay taxes pay their fair share….

        WHAT?…..

      • Bill

Raggs What ever your smoking you should share.

We need to DUMP that pot!!!! It’s too far gone for STIRRING!!!

Here’s what I just don’t get. We as a country are faced with unprecedented debt currently over 14 trillion and even with the cuts currently being proposed by both parties, we will be at 25 trillion in debt within 10 years, this based on the base budget and the routine increases in it each year. The cuts being proposed barely slow down this growth in debt. On top of that we are looking at well over 100 trillion in unfunded liabilities for the social programs. Congress has diverted the money citizens paid for social security and medicare to the general fund and spent it and these social systems are operating like a big ponzi scheme. If we don’t voluntarily cut the spending and get things under control then we will be bankrupt before long following in the footsteps of Greece and the rest of Europe. How do you propose we address this problem? We can’t just keep raising the debt ceiling and borrow 40+ cents on every dollar the government spends. I’m listening!

    • Bill

Like i said if you get rid of the Bush Tax Cuts , also get out of 2 wars which are a mistake, get rid of the Tax Breaks for Corporations to move out of the country ( who ever heard of a country paying its Corporation to move out of its country ). Then we want to complain unemployments to high. Also if we get to full employment our debt wouldn’t be so bad. All the Presidents from Reagan on have increased the debt limit. Also 58,000 factories in the last ten years is a lot of tax money to lose thanks to our patriotic corporations that don’t like communism.

      • Raggs

Bill… wake up… even if the Bush tax cuts were reversed that would NOT even come close to a drop in the bucket in lieu of this ultra progressive spending spree of oblamas.

You have no plan dude. only excuses.

      • Bill

I think you need to find out what kind of spending spree Obama’s been on compared to your idol Ronnie Boy and that Texas Ranger George.

      • Bill

Before you talk you should read the reply to Lloyd, It’s right above you.

      • Bill

I don’t think those are excuses Raggs. Unless your wealthy if we follow the Republicans agenda you’ll end up in rags.

  • Raggs

I have heard it all now… oblama inching to the right? hell he is so far left the earths rotation is even backwards where he came from.

    • Bill

If you would watch something other than Rupert Murdoughs station Fox News you might learn to think for yourself. Billy Bob started NAFTA at the urging of the Republican Party. Maybe someone else needs to read a book.

  • s c

For anyone in America to look at Sanders as an Independent is a grave indictment of America’s inferior, imploding education system. If that yahoo is an Independent, then I’m Bawney Fwank’s best friend and Nancy Pelosi must be made a saint immediately.
Sanders is playing games with the English language. This just another distraction, designed to be absorbed by people who hate to think for themselves. If the good people of Vermont were serious about being freedom-loving Americans, they’d ship Sanders to Cuba, and tell him he’d be posing in front of a firing squad if he found his way back.

  • Bill

If Obama gives into cuts to any of the big 3 the Dems need to find a replacement for him in 2012, because that’s going to be his downfall.
I also think the destruction of the Democratic Party will happen if cuts in programs are approved with no revenue added. It seems to me the Democratic Party is moving away from the working peoples party to the wealthy Republican Party. No ones really listening to what the people are asking for except maybe the Koch brothers.

    • Brad

      Bill,

Answer this one question, why is it this administration in 2 1/2 year’s has spent more than any other administration in history? Now they want to spend more; by 2025 if the debt is left un-checked/being paid off the interest alone will engulf 50% of GDP and the rest of the money the US treasury takes in will go to social programs. After the social programs have been paid there will be no more money left to pay all the various departments, then what, the US starts selling off parts of the country to pay our obligations within the US. Is this what you want for our future, I think we all need to step back and tell congress to quit selling us down the road, start paying the debt off and live within our means. That being said, congress needs to balance our budgit with no deficit spending and we as Americans should start taking care of our own before taking care of the world.

  • http://N/a Armour

Since when is a move toward communism a move to the right?

    • Bill

What’s a move towards Communism. Reversing everything his doing what every other President has done. If you want to talk about Communism a majority of the products we buy are from a Communist country. I forgot that’s free trade even though it screws your own American Country. Where is our borrowed money coming from, i forgot it’s a Communist country. Our country alone is turning a Communist Country into a Super Power. So i would think the blame should be on our Corporations and our Government which moved 58,000 factories out of the country in the last 10yrs. I’m sorry i forgot about the Bush Tax Cuts which added jobs out of the country instead of into it. I guess the American people are to greedy, if they would only work for 40 or 50cents an hour with no benifits there would be all kinds of jobs. They just don’t want to work.

      • Raggs

Bologna… billy bob clinton started NAFTA remember? he also started the affordable housing agreement in which started the decline of our economy.. So why don’t you go read a book or something…

      • Bill

If the Banks and Financial institutions wouldn’t have been so corrupt we wouldn’t have had a problem. To much deregulation can’t trust the leaders of all these businesses. We the tax payer bailed them out and they got bonuses.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        bill
that is just plain BS!!! Bush tried to warn a dem congress and Bawney Fwanks about the housing bill and Bawney Fwanks told him not to worry the fair housing was doing just FINE!! Yeah, just fine on a fast track down a very slippery track!!! Let’s not forget there were a lot of people out there that KNOWINGLY bought more house than they could afford!!! they figured they would worry about it when that balloon payment came due or they sold it for a profit!! Stupidity on their part!!!

      • Kinetic1

        Raggs,
Reading is a great idea. You can learn a lot. Try reading this for instance: NAFTA was signed by President George H.W. Bush, Mexican President Salinas, and Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney in 1992. Clinton simply signed the bill once it was ratified by Congress. I’m not saying that it takes Clinton off the hook, but NAFTA was part of a Republican program to cut costs for corporations, not some doe eyed Liberal attempt to improve the economies of third world nations.
As for the housing bubble, let’s not be stingy. Reagan increased the gap between the wealthy and the poor, contributing to massive problems in low income housing. HUD, during both the Reagan and Bush 1 years was busy taking bribes and payoffs from wealthy developers who then took advantage of the poor. Clinton stepped in and made a misguided attempt to improve both the economy and the lives of the lower class with new housing policies. Unfortunately he failed to deal with HUD or set up proper regulation of the new lower standard home loan industry. Next up, George W. Bush, who’s concept of a “Ownership Society” lead him to make the growing low income loan situation even worse. Subsidies to help cover down payments and closing costs and relaxed oversight of the banking industry turned the home finance world into a upside down pyramid. So while I agree that Clinton made some mistakes in handling the housing market, he was hardly alone.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        kinetic,
et’s not forget that at the time of Reagans departure, most banks still REQUIRED about 20% down on a house! Then came the dem plan of zero down and they STILL couldn’t afford the house!!! don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining!!

  • Bill

I agree with Tomm, everybody seems to forget where the debt came from. If everybodies is so concerned about the debt i would think that the first thing that we should do is reverse everything that got us in this mess to start. After we get to full employment , which is why we supposedly kept the Bush Tax Cuts which haven’t added to many jobs in the last ten years. Then we could look at the deficit if there is one.

    • http://?? Joe H.

      bill,
we also passed the stimulous bill on Nobummers promise that unemployment would not dip farther than 8%!!! Let’s see, it’s what now 10%+???
His jobs czar, who is supposed to be building jobs in the US is from GE and as an executive of the company helped move over 1000 jobs to CHINA!!!
Last but dam sure not least, son, tell me ANY time in the history of this nation that we had 100% employment!

  • E Pluribus Unum

I think the Democrats would like to primary John McCain against Obama, but don’t want to lose his Republican vote for the Democrats agenda.

One Question has been bothering me lately. Once all the Democrats have been fired, will the Republican party survive without someone with whom to cut deals?

  • Warrior

News flash bernie! 1.) why anyone believes you’re an “independent” is beyond comprehension. 2.) the only other “progressive” who could fill obammy’s shoes already served two terms. But hey, don’t let that fact stop the “progressives” from inserting the slickster again.

How right you are, Warrior! People, so easily forget where so many of the current problems started.

I have never seen this potus do anything towards the right. Where is this man getting his info?

In this debt debate he leans to the right all the time.

    • Rusticus

Your letter says a great deal about your political ignorance. Put down you Ann Coulter books for a minute and get a book on comparative governments. Here’s a simple primer. Government running business is left wing. Business running the government is right wing. If you can’t see that our government is run by business interests, there is no reason to discuss anything with you.

Failing to prosecute Bush criminals-Right wing. Escalating war in Afghanistan- Right wing. Renewing Bush tax cuts- Right wing. Sucking up to the Republicans – Right wing. Bailing out the banks – right wing. Selling out health care to the insurance companies – right wing. The list goes on and on. The only “left wing” thing he has done is taking over GM. That is a drop in the bucket compared to his right wing activities.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Rusticus,
Spent money at a faster pace than any other president. Left wing! get involved in libya, costing one hundred billion already. LEFT WING! strengthening the patriot bill. Nobama, or left wing!! Threatening to close the internet. left wing! Want me to go on?? I can!!

Further confirmation of what I’ve been saying; President Obama is and always has been in the Center on the political spectrum.

    • Raggs

Doc.. you are smoking that funny stuff kinnda early today huh…

    • Bob

Doc: All your statement says is that you are deluded (as usual). Maobama is a marxist and no amount of lying by lieberal liars is going to change that. What this does prove is that many maocrats have moved so far to the left that even a useful idiots like maobama and yourself appear to be moderates. I hope that America is beginning to realize that the democrat party is the very essence of evil and must be sent to the dustbin of history before it brings America to a new Dark Age.

      • Bill

Who do you like best Rush or Glenn. As far as news i can tell you watch Rupert Murdoughs stations. Such an honest old man.

      • Kinetic1

        Bob,
Look at the policies of the Ronald Reagan, patron saint of the Republican party and you’ll see that it is the right that has moved further to the extreme. Many of Obama’s policies, just like those of President Clinton were proposed and supported by Republicans just a few years ago. Now, even some Reagan’s policies are to far left for TEA Party Republicans.

      • paintbrushbright

Every time I read the post replies it’s the same old game of every one looking back comparing the good and bad deeds of past presidents to Obama’s policies of today. It’s a waste of words and a way of justification either for or against Obama. They have nothing to do with what he is doing now. Why can’t we stay on tract of looking and discussing our agreement or disagreement with his actions? Let’s not look to excuses but to fact of what he is doing that has put this country in limbo and what he is doing that will hurt or help correct our dilemma.

      • Raggs

WOW.. you are really stupid for an “intelligent” life form.

  • spepper

Barry moving to the RIGHT? Really, Bernie? Because Social Security is in danger of being cut? Well if it is, it’s because of your guy’s LEFT WING ANTICS, the Obamacare debacle being the prime example– it is an economic BLACK HOLE into which EVERYTHING will be sucked into, destroying what’s left of the economy that your overly centralized federal government taps into for things like Social Security, pal–

    • Ellen

Here we have another out-of-touch Democrat. People voted for Obama because they thought he was a centrist and believed his babble about cutting the deficit in half, etc. Now, they’ve seen a progressive ultra liberal and don’t like his policies. If this guy thinks a Dem that runs as a progressive will win in today’s economic times, he should be voted out with the rest of the brain-dead Dems who believe that progressivism has helped the US. Welfare is bankrupting us and has created an entire society of welfare cycle repeaters. Welfare is the Dems’ biggest ‘achievement.’

      • Kinetic1

        Ellen,
“progressive ultra liberal”? It’s funny how anyone who wins the Democratic nomination instantly becomes the “most Liberal member of the …” and you folks buy in without question. A true “progressive ultra liberal” would not have caved in to the Republicans on health care. If Obama were a “progressive ultra liberal” we would have single payer national health care instead of the hodgepodge they came up with. A real “progressive ultra liberal” would never even consider a bill that would raise revenue by eliminating deductions for home interest and employer provided health insurance, let alone slash Social Security and Medicare benefits, but there he is. War in Iraq? Still going! Troop surge in Afghanistan? You bet!

Obama is certainly not a TEA Party Republican, but neither is he an extreme left winger. Consider his administration’s firing of Shirley Sherrod. It wasn’t what she did or said, it was fear over what FOX News would say if he didn’t. He could have repealed the Patriot Act. He could have let the Bush tax cuts run out as they were scheduled. There are a dozen things a “progressive ultra liberal” could have and would have done, but Obama is too much of a centrist. He seems to be trying to follow in Clinton’s foot steps, but he isn’t as good at politics as Clinton and the GOP knows it.

      • Sarah
