Mubarak To Face Trial In Cairo

CAIRO, July 28 (UPI) — Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s health has improved enough to move him from a hospital to Cairo for trial, the country’s health minister said.
Mubarak, who is under arrest at a hospital in Sharm el-Sheik, faces charges of corruption and ordering the killing of protesters before his February ouster. Others in his administration also face charges in the killing of unarmed protesters.
The trial is set to begin Aug. 3 at a hall at Cairo’s Conference Center, the BBC quoted the health minister as saying.
Mubarak’s deteriorating health had fueled speculation his trial would be postponed or held in Sharm el-Sheik.
Meanwhile, The Egyptian Gazette quoted the country’s minister of tourism as saying the trial won’t hurt tourism.
Munir Fakhri Abdel-Nur said it’s better for tourism if the trial is held in Cairo since Sharm el-Sheik is a tourist area.
Abdel-Nur urged the media to depict Egypt as a safe place to visit.
