Congressman Blames Dems For FAA Shutdown

The Federal Aviation Administration has shut down because Congress was unable to pass legislation to extend the entity’s operating authority.
The Washington Times reports that Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said that the shutdown meant that thousands of Federal employees are currently not working and dozens of airport construction projects have been placed on hold.
“Because Congress didn’t do its work, FAA programs and thousands of public and private sector jobs are in jeopardy,” LaHood said in a conference call, reports the newspaper.
House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman John Mica (R-Fla.) said that Democrats were the ones who should bear responsibility for the shutdown, reports The Hill.
Mica said that the Senate failed to pass a bill that made it through the House because it cut Federal funding to three small airports.
“So for three airports where their passengers are being paid a subsidy of $1,500 to $3,700 — at three airports — they’re closing down the FAA,” the lawmaker said, reports the new source.
The three airports in question are reportedly in Montana, Nevada and New Mexico.
