Bill Would Cut Foreign Aid To Certain Middle Eastern Countries

A bill being considered in the House could cut U.S. aid to Pakistan.A bill that is up for consideration before the House Foreign Affairs Committee could cut billions of dollars in aid to Middle Eastern countries.

The bill — which was introduced by Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) — would prevent aid from going to countries until it is determined that they are not run by groups that are hostile to the United States, reports Fox News.

“Basically, if Hamas, Hezbollah and other foreign terrorist organizations or violent extremist groups hold policy positions… in their respective governments, they are not to receive U.S. assistance,” Ros-Lehtinen said. “Our goal is to promote democratic governments in these countries and ensure U.S. taxpayers are not subsidizing groups that seek to undermine U.S. policy.”

The news source reports that the bill does contain a large loophole that would allow foreign aid to be sent to countries if the President determines that such funding is in the interest of national security.

According to The Hill, Egypt, Pakistan, Lebanon, Yemen and the Palestinian Authority would have to each receive certification in order to gain access to aid.

The government needs to go on a MAJOR diet (it’s completely bloated right now with way too many power-hungry czars, etc.), and start living within its means rather than continue it’s destructive policies of reckless spending, borrowing & lending. It needs to stop plain period.

    In addition to what you wrote, please throw out the UN, George Soros & his cronies; get rid of Obamacare; eliminate the IRS & establish a FAIR TAX in its stead; eliminate waste in gov’t programs; put education back in the hands of the states & allow vouchers for educational choice; reinstate DADT & defend marriage (DOMA); allow drilling again (which will create much needed jobs, bring oil & gas prices down & allow us to be self-sufficient again); and throw out the legislation that forces us to replace our lightbulbs with dangerous mercury-laden ones. I’m sure I can come up with more, but these were the first things that came to mind.

      Bert C., When the Social Security Act was first passed, it was immediately challenged as unconstitutional, because it was assumed that the S.S. Act taxes were set aside, exclusively, for that Act’s benefits. In Court the U.S. Attorney General argued that those taxes flowed into the Treasury like any other tax. The Supreme Court agreed and held the Act constitutional. The so-called separate S.S. Trust Fund has never existed, however, many congressmen still refer to it as though it does.

My point is when we give $770,000,000 (that’s over 3/4 of a Billion!) to Muslims, to rebuild their Mosques they give thanks to us and walk away and then laugh at us behind our backs for our weakness, it is not and that is not a way to earn their respect.
      And we have to borrow the money to do it! As you know regarding the Debt Ceiling debate, Obama wants to raise taxes so we can keep on doing these foolish things. It’s really hard to find things to CUT?

    Good Grief!! Most of the Mid-East governments DON’T want the US to stick our nose in their business, let the oil rich “haves” take care of their own “have nots”.       The real reason Freddy,is that some folks down the line decide that we need to stack the deck on both sides.It’s all about lobbying and spending money to get money.You can buy intelligence form certain countries.Why did Bin Laden get got?Some will say this,and some will say that….but my money is on the fact that he couldnt outspend our gubment.In the war on pay offs,he was eventually going to lose.The world is a strange and hardcore place,especially if you have funds to throw around.Idealism doesnt feed your bank account.But it does feed some peoples.If you want to get something done you have to talk funds.

    I say lets cut all freign aid 100%. We are bankrupt, our dollar is worthless and we still shovel foreign aid to countries that just want to kill us. It doesn’t make sense to me. That would be a good step to cutting the deficite, dont you think. What other countries dish out foreign aid? France? England, Italy, Switzerland? I dont think so.

    We should go further. Congress should demand all oil compaines and corporate businesses pull out of the middle east and let them live as before. Pull out of bases in the middle east and bring troops home.They will be able to keep their natural resources and the corporations will have to move to other countries.This will stop US Hegemony but of course we know that is not what is happening. Just rumors? Resume drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and in the fields off the coast of Alaska.

        The last 3 presidents to my knowledge, and there might have more because I wasnt paying attention before then, have really been throwing their weight around. Most of them dont have expert personal knowledge about many of the things they try to control. They appoint their friends to cabinet posts who have very little knowledge and are out for themselves. The founding fathers created the office of president to appease the monarchists and to create check and balance and it appears to be way out of balance. I am in favore of eliminating the entire office of president. The commander in Chief bs was created because George Washington was a very good general. That doesnt gaurantee every smiling charismatic moron that gets elected knows anything about war. We do know they knowa lot about lying.

        Presidents have been throwing their weight around since FDR, starting nearly 80 years ago. Before then, with the exception of the tyrannical Lincoln, they were more or less figureheads. Okay, Teddy Roosevelt was a little too activist for my liking but most agreed with Calvin Coolidge, one of my favorite presidents, who said, “The business of America is business.” He stayed in the White House except for some photo ops, minded his own business, and trusted America to look after itself.

      I won’t argue with a lot of your issues, but you seriously want to give money to the worthless incompetents in Detroit? They were offered the methodology to produce autos efficiently and rejected it. The Japanese were offered it and jumped on it. They began to almost immediately kick our rear-sides. If it weren’t for their competition Dtroit’d still be producing 50′s style technology vehicles with 30′s style assembly-line techniques even today. The big car companies are dinosaurs with no vision and no desire to change. It’ll undoubtedly be worse now that the unions own a big share in the auto business.

        Wrong. Aid to strategic allies like Israel is cost effective in that it saves us from setting up a base there. Aid to any moslem country to try to buy their favor as is aid to any African country where the money goes straight into a Swiss bank account for the inevitable day that the strongman is displaced — by another one.

        By the way, how many European countries have repaid their loans from the Marshall Plan? One. Great Britain, and not that long ago. The rest haven’t made a single payment.

    Factoid: Pakistan (despite of its own warped thinking to the contrary) is NOT a Muddle Eastern nation. But it is OVERDUE that it should be cut-off, given that it hid bin-Laden (and supported ousted Taliban) for the 10 years since 2001/09/11 and in 2010 mounted two (failed) attacks against this country!

    Stop all foreign aid. Borrowing money to give it to foreign countries does not make sense. China does not engage in foreign aid, just buys natural resources and makes it look like foreign aid. We should learn from China.

And do the dependent thank the producers? No, they cast the producers as criminals for hoarding wealth. So why would you think countries would be any different? Unfortunately, if you want countries to be thankful, you probably are going to have sit back and watch for a while and let them scream until they have gone hoarse and can scream no more. Then, you look for those your aid will actually help become independent. And do it the right way this time. Give real aid: education. Educate them to help themselves. Teach them how to dig wells, utilize their resources. Teach them to build their own businesses. Teach them to build their own government. Don’t build it for them. If they don’t want to learn, don’t teach. Move on to someone who does. Eventually, they will learn. Either from being willing to educate themselves, or because they will see the fruits you help another nation who does want to succeed can achieve. What we are doing is not really nation building. Anciently it was called conquest. We are building dependents, not independent nations.

THIS WAS IN THE LATE 70s, WHEN THE MINDS OF MOST AMERICANS, THINKING ABOUT THE ARABIAN FOLKS– GENERATED VISIONS OF ALI BABA AND THE FORTY THIEVES OR PRETTY YOUNG LADIES FLYING THROUGH THE CLOUDS ON CARPETS; BIZARRE, BUT WHOLESOME OPINIONS.

        THE ENGINEER PAINTED A TOTALLY DIFFERENT PICTURE OF THEIR CULTURE.

        “THEY STEAL FROM AMERICANS AS THOUGH ALLAH TOLD THEM TO DO SO; THEY COMPETE, BROTHER WITH BROTHER AS IF THEY WERE ENEMIES- THEIR CULTURE IS 1500 YEARS BEHIND THE REST OF THE EARTH. FIGHTING AMONG SECTS AND NEIGHBORING TRIBES IS ENDLESS; THEY HAVE ABSOLUTELY ZERO SENSE OF EVEN THE MOST MINIMAL CONCEPT OF GRATITUDE–IF YOU GIVE THEM FIFTY BUCKS TO AID THEM, THEY BECOME ANGRY THAT YOU DIDN’T GIVE THEM ONE-HUNDRED.”

        EVERY TIME I SEE OR HEAR NEWS ABOUT TROUBLE IN THE MIDEAST–WHICH IS, OF COURSE EVERY DAY–I THINK OF THE WISDOM OF THE OIL ENGINEER.

        Gubmant yells the most.You are stopping them from defecating on you and handing them all the toilet paper they need.They are used to getting preferential treatment.Now that you are waking up under a steaming pile of debt,you are of course,asking why it stinks so much.
        But since you let them shyte upon you,and gave them the means to wipe thoroughly,now its about a,”where are we going to drop our horkin growlers now?” attitude.Tell them to shyte upon each other,they seem to be adept at that already.But tell them that theey will have to wipe each others bottoms,because you arent ponying up the ultra plush anymore.No!…to raising the shyte ceiling.No!…to giving away the rolls.Tell them they have made you the bluehouse target for the last time.

      Warrior…do you advocate cutting the hundreds of BILLIONS our State Dep. is giving Middle E.Countries to re build their Mosques?
      Do you suppose they would give us some money to re build our churches?
      We KNOW the answer to that!!
      Why are we giving hundreds of BILLIONS in foreign aid to countries that Do NOT support us?? If you and I were mortal enemies, and you gave me lots of money, to “buy” my friendship…I’d use it to destroy you!! makes sense!

        We give “billions” to people in our own country that want to destroy us. We should we provide them with any more external assistance?

        I’d probably give you lots of my money, but right now, I’m like those greedy corporations that are leaving their riches on the “sidelines”.
