You've Come a Long Way, Baby

July 21, 2011 by

You've Come a Long Way, Baby

Sometime after June Cleaver turned in her apron and retired to guest spots on “The Love Boat,” the feminist movement took center stage in what some called “the gender wars.” I wasn’t around during the nascent years of feminism, but I’ve always thought that the boys lost to the girls right about the same time we started pretending we liked movies with Sally Field — and without the Trans-Am.

Like any conservative, I’m of the opinion that skills and dedication ought to determine merit, and merit ought to determine advancement. As an example: When self-described “journalist” Joe McGinnis rented the house next door to Sarah Palin in order to conduct “research” on her family, liberals cheered the move, while reasonable people saw it as exceptionally creepy. If someone set up camp next door to Rachel Maddow, liberals would shriek “stalker!” or “sexist intimidation!” while conservatives would assume the poor sap lost a very big bet.

Unfortunately, as is so often the case with socially activist philosophies, one side of the political spectrum has convinced itself that it is the only appropriate partner for the movement. And as is so often the case with one side of a political spectrum “claiming” a social ideology as its own, the cause has been grossly perverted. Thus, the message of the current “feminist” movement, co-opted by the left as it is, isn’t one of “equal opportunity for women,” or even “gender should not be the sole factor in (whatever) decision.” Instead, feminism shouts from the rooftops about equal — or superior — treatment for liberal women. And they don’t mean: “The dumb broads who think raising a family is empowering are on their own.” They mean: “The dumb broads who don’t think the way we do are beneath scorn.”

And not only does the Democratic-feminist cabal despise women who don’t share their particular brand of lunacy, they rarely take issue when Democratic men make spectacularly misogynist remarks about conservative women. On those oddly frequent occasions when a party mouthpiece like Bill Maher (who evidently struggles with some serious mommy issues) channels… well… Bill Maher, the liberal community erupts in debate. It strikes me that when a conservative mocks Secretary of State Hillary Clinton without so much as a nod to her gender, the liberal community stands shoulder-to-shoulder in levying sexism charges against him.

Maher is particularly interesting given that he relates to women only slightly less dysfunctionally than Ted Bundy. For the sake of decency, I will refrain from repeating his remarks about Sarah Palin. Suffice it to say, if I used language like that — even about Hillary Clinton — my mother would fly down just to smack the fool out of my mouth. MSNBC’s morbidly obese lunatic Ed Schultz called Laura Ingraham a “slut,” and MSNBC needed 48 hours of navel-gazing before deciding Fat Eddie needed some time in the corner. The evening of President Obama’s State of the Union speech, Chris Matthews spent the better part of an hour talking about how much he hates Representative Michele Bachmann. Given the content of the speech Matthews was supposed to be analyzing, he needed something concrete and defaulted to 45 minutes of woman-hating.

Even the gals get nasty when the target isn’t the right kind of “strong woman.” Late last week, Janeane Garofalo, who manages to make a living as a comedienne despite being about as funny as a colonoscopy, took shots at Bachmann by attacking Bachmann’s husband — a man who has in no way tried to insert himself in the national political discourse. Try to imagine the liberal response should a conservative commentator make cruel and unfounded remarks about — say — Representative John Conyers’ wife… oops, the Federal courts have killed any chance of that.

If Bill Maher, Chris Matthews, Ed Schultz, Markos Moulitsas, Lawrence O’Donnell, Paul Krugman or even Janeane Garofolo wants to take issue with conservative women on a political level, then they’re welcome to it. Their fact-deficient rants usually offer great material for our weekly Great Eight. But they should keep the hypocrisy to a dull roar, focusing their disapproval on their targets’ politics — not their genitals.

I think the point here is not whether or not men and women are equal. The point is that people on the left side of the political spectrum have no problem attacking women on the right side of the political spectrum. However, they go ballistic when a woman on the left side is attacked. Like many noble causes, the women’s lib movement has been hijacked by folks who couldn’t care less about the original cause. The hypocrisy is astounding and yet no one ever points that out. The true believers in women’s lib need to purge their cause of those kinds of folks because it damages their credibility.

    • Janet

I agree that “the hypocrisy is astounding.”

      • RG

Absolutely. Thank you for your comment gman.

  • Janet

“From what i see since women have empowered themselves (i believe they already were) society has suffered. More children are running the streets to join gangs, rob, murder, or just do stupid things that were more unlikely to happen since the womens movement of the 60′s. THE AMERICAN FAMILY HAS SUFFERED, and yes i think it was, at least, part of a conspiracy to bring about socialism, by some of the women that started the movement and by certain organizations that supported the movement. Now we have been put in a position where it takes 2 working parents to support a household (inflation brought about by fiat dollars with no gold standard).

Power to the women, but MORE importantly it should be power to the family.”

I have to agree with “Push Comes to Shove” in the above quote. The American family (& other nations’ families also) have suffered since it became unfashionable to be a stay-home wife & mother. I believe another contributing factor was TV, especially the soap-operas. They often depicted an unproductive or immoral lifestyle. And too many of us spent too much of our day watching them, along with our children.

As for it taking two people working to make ends meet, much of that is caused by grandiose goals (large houses, etc.), greed (wanting everything we see), and easy credit. My parents & grandparents didn’t buy much on credit–Grandfather never did. They saved until they had the money to buy it outright. My parents cut several feet out of their house plan to make building the house more affordable–in 1948 they only had to borrow $2000! Imagine!

Easy credit has made prices of everything go up, making it almost impossible to save to buy something like a new car. Much of what we buy is unnecessary and even useless, but we think we HAVE to have it–to keep up with everyone else, or jump ahead.

The worst of all this is that many husbands & wives have not really raised their children. They are in daycare or preschool during the most impressionable years. Their parents (if they’re fortunate enough to have two at home)come home too tired or uninterested in focusing on the children & the other parent. Even young kids play sports, which means practice and games, all away from home, and not all parents are involved. The children often have a TV or DVD player in their room, and that’s much easier than reading, helping with household chores, etc..

Please don’t think I was a perfect parent. I was right there with the rest of my generation. Looking back, I thank God that my children had my parents and one of my Grandmothers to help guide them in life!

I hope that we in America at least have learned a lesson. We need to nurture our families. We need to control our spending. We need to raise our children & grandchildren to be responsible, respectful, hard-working adults who appreciate what they have and who appreciate the liberties our CONSTITUTION gives each of us.

    • Dan az

      Janet
      well said!

    • Bob Marshall

Janet, It looks like you and just little ole me explained the problem very well. In this day and age it does take two to make ends meet and as a result the children are often the loser. While sometimes day care is the only way while both parents work to accomplish these children aren’t getting the love and attention they need.Games and Television can’t replace love and attention. We have become a nation where the divorice rate is 52%.If two people have to work two jobs just image the struggles one parent has today. The very fabric of our society is being ripped apart. Why is that some marriages have lasted forty, fifty years and even beyound? Today i see where the average marriage laast three years. In most cases to the same partner.Maybe those old folks just knew something.i will admit back then when these couples married only the man worked while the woman raised the family. As time went on somehow they learned to adapt and still have a working marriage.i do believe with age not only is experience gained but wisdom.Old people have so much to offer but are so often negleted. My hat’s off to all women who make marriages work under most trying of times.

As far as Bill Maher aka Freddie Kruger is concerned, he is an idiot. He used to be considered an actor in horror movies and now he is a pathetic actor in horror comedy. In fact to call him a comedian is ridiculous. He is nothing but a pretender trying to become someone who is important in the political spectrum, but instead has shown himself to be a vulgar and ignoble joke.
In fact, he is THE PRIME EXAMPLE of the new and wonderful Liberal Party attitude.
It seems the liberals are proud to have Freddie Kruger as their spokesman.

  • just little ole me

Okay women yes we need to have the chance to work but many woman have put there job as number one. There are many however that can do both if they do it on their children’s schedule. I however believe many of us have left our children to day cares, public schools and nannies to raise our kids. There lies the problem. Our children are learning others values. Have we become so stuck on the equality train that we have forgotten our children. It use to be that many girls when asked what they wanted to be when they grew up the answer was Mothers. Now it is a teacher, doctor, fireman, policeman and etc. What have we done? We need the ability to work. Let us not get in a war with men and think we have to do all they can do. Many women go to the extreme that they won’t let a man carry their bags because they can do anything a man can. Have we forgotten our greatest gift our children and the privilege of raising them into great citizens. There are those who must work but if we put as much into our children as many women do in their jobs then our children would be good moral citizens. No I don’t believe it is good to want it all that is just plain selfish. I want to work when my children are out of my home and I look forward to working but not at the expense of my children. Men can’t give birth do you here them screaming No Fair. lol…besides I wouldn’t think they would want it. Hey I can have a little fun too. Please woman don’t forget your nurturing instincts. Most men don’t have this to the extreme that women do. Why? Well this is my belief “God gave it to us for a reason to raise his children uprightly.” Many of us are not doing that job we are leaving that part of the job unfinished. Please don’t take the value out of mother. Please understand I believe in women rights but let us be smart with it. Our children need us.

    • Bob Marshall

      WOW!!! Nicely said!

“Many women go to the extreme that they won’t let a man carry their bags because they can do anything a man can.”

Does anyone else find it strange that an act of courtesy is now viewed by many as an insult?

      • http://?? Joe H.

        gman4691,
I had a “lady” cuss me out all to heck and back for holding the door for her to enter a store. I told her that I was sorry and I wouldn’t make that mistake again!! I saw her two days later in Penneys all loaded down with packages and held the door for her till I saw who it was! She said thanks and when I saw who it was I let the door go and told her I didn’t want to get cussed at again and walked off!! Man was she flustered and red!!

    • Lost in Paradise

Nicely put, and how true it is.

  • M.D.

You sound just like the whiney Liberals when they claim how racist Conservatives are against Obama. Nonsnse. There might be a few but by and large, they just don’t like him or his policies.
This is the same exact thing- so my advice is everyone take their pacifiers out of their mouths and get back to the issues that matter.

  • TIME

My two cents worth, take it for what ever value you like.

My Wife is the BEST contract lawyer I have ever met bar non. My aid was hired in 2008 when we found out I had cancer. She started straight out of school I could tell she was going to be a real asset to us from her first interview. I was right she is a SOLID Asset to not only me but my company.

If a person is qualified I could care less what sex, color, or race they are.

    • Dan az

      Time
you never did say what type of cancer.

      • TIME

        Hi Dan,

I had nasal cancer from when I had a tooth implant. The implant broke into my nasal passage, it just went crazy. At one point I was having massive head pains as well I just was never hungry so I was also loosing weight like mad. I had a friend who’s a real Doc, run some test after just a few test they figured it out.

Thats when I was told what treatments were on the table, not a one looked all that good. So I went rogue and statred the research into Cancer cures thats when I found out about the hemp oil treatments.

      • Jeep

Time, I am glad you are still around, hang in there my friend!

      • TIME

        Jeep,
Thanks dude, I will keep on trucking as long as I can.

      • Dan az

        Time is it working?

      • TIME

        Dan,

I have been cancer free for nearly two years now. I have put back on some weight I am now 175, I used to be about 225.
So when I was down to around 140,ish range with a six foot plus frame I looked like death warmed over.

I have had to have all my cloths cut down to fit me as I don’t plan on putting on any more weight than where I am at now. I must add that I now watch everything I eat.
I only eat fresh foods, let me tell you thats not an easy task.

I used to eat a cheesebuger daily, now its one every few months with no fries.

      • Dan az

Time that’s great news!I had read somewhere that it even irradicated some cancers cool.I just have one question more if you don’t mind, does the oil still have thc in it and still give you a buzz or has it been taken out and leaves you pain free?

      • TIME

        Hi Dan,
Yes the THC is all thats left, you make a paste out of it then you eat about a half of grain of rice 3x per day.
No saddly, you don’t get high at all.
What is will do is make you {very sleepy.

    • Nadzieja Batki

Actually you do care because you made an issue of this.

  • Ron M

Where is Todd Palin in all this? If Maher, or any of these other punks called my wife names like this, I would rearrange his face. I think Todd Palin should go on Maher’s show and call him out. It is past time that Conservatives Stand Up for what we believe in and our women.

    • Gerald

Agreed…he ought to track Maher down and pound his wussy face into blood pudding…

      • Steve O

Because Todd knows he has a tough strong woman who could take Bill Maher down herself if she wanted to. But I would take pleasure in thinking about Todd covertly readjusting Maher’s thinking!

    • Nadzieja Batki

Mrs./Mr. or whatever he is has been neutered long ago.

  • Brenda Choate

When the so called feminist movement began I noted that this applied to women sent to college with the object of catching rich husbands. They were graduates of liberal art programs or other meaningless degrees at the time. Most of these women entered the workplace at salaries incomprehensible to the ordinary workers. There demand for equal pay did not reach the lower level employee using the excuse that there were no male conterparts in those fields. Needless to say, I did not buy into that then nor do I now. These women were out for themselves, there was no sisterhood then and there is none now.

  • Gerald

Almost everything that is wrong with this country and society today came out of the 60s. If abortion was ever justified, it would have been a blessing if it had been used on the whole flower child generation.

    • Lost in Paradise

I do not think that was a justified statement. You need to realize lots of those flower children are now staunch conservatives. You almost need to be liberal when young and rebellious, but then you grow up! When you listen to most liberals it is very apparent they have not yet ——-.

      • Push comes to shove

I like your post, and you are right.

I have been saying for years, and it gets under the skin of the libs i know, that “I was a liberal person, until i grew up and realized reality will kick you in the face”.

      • Jeep

Wow, LiP, very astute comment. Kudos!

      • DaveH

Stossel comes to mind. He often talks about how he started his career as a staunch Liberal. Now he is a fearless Libertarian.
I caught on to the Liberal hypocrisy early in my college days. The big thing then was “say your own piece”. They railed often about how the “establishment” was suppressing their free speech. Then when somebody like a military guy would address the students, these same people would do their best to shout the guy down. Never mind his free speech.

  • FreedomFighter

I admit to watching BM on HBO 2 times, within a few minutes my wife insisted I change the channel because she was not going to watch “that @$$hat”. I did.

2nd time I was by myself, I lasted a little longer, same conclusion.

I too have the same feelings you get, but its best that I see him fist hand lie outright that way I can always say, do you recall when he said this, that or the other thing.

      • JeffH

TIME, usually I start getting nauseas when I hear the first lie. I’ll switch to something like Gilligan’s Island or F Troop to calm me down.

      • DaveH

I tried to watch BO in the beginning to see how far left he would go, but it was soon obvious.

I am with ALL you guys on that one… can’t stand to see his arrogant face or listen to his out-right lies…

        I, too, change the channel…

Maybe we all sense the evil that encompasses him… and it repels us.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Christin,
too bad it doesn’t repel him right out of the US!!!

      • JeffH

Christin, I spent a month in the hospital in Jan/Feb of 2008 and watched a lot of Obama’s campaign speeches. I’ll admit, at first, I was pretty impressed with the unknown senator from Illinois. All of this talk about “hope & change” was intriguing until I started to realize there was never any substance to his words, just a lot of clichés. After I got out and got settled in Fresno, CA…I started doing a lot of research on him and voila…he was a radical, had a radical obsession with an Alinsky Marxist slant who’s prior experience was as a community organizer with ACORN and an unaccomplished lawyer…not my idea of a POTUS. Thank God for computers and the internet…wish others had done the same.

  • American Citizen

This old white woman paid no attention to the feminists. I was working long before there was such a thing as feminism as were a lot of women I know. To put all women in the same category is just as bad as putting all men in the same category. There are bad apples in every barrel.

    • Karolyn

      Amen!

  • Linda

Was it worth it for woman to sell themselves to the devil and be complete controlling, [removed] to get what they want while they look down their noses at men?

  • julie

My question is, where are the conservative men standing up for the slander upon these women? Are they scared of them too? Conservative men should have immediately said, “This is in appropriate and will not be tolerated,” and called for some sort of punishment. Women have been slandered ever since they left the house and went to work. Men have used dominance and sexual innuendo to demean them. Let’s get real here…they are afraid we might be better at something than them. It is from the cave days. When will they learn we are not here to fight them or to best them, but to walk beside them and make them stronger? Feminism is really a nonentity any more. It may have been in the 60s, but (most) women have grown far beyond that age. Those that still cling to it are from the 60s,

    • Steve O

What the H#&@ Julie!?!? Conservative men do stand up for women being ridiculed. This article is example one. Do you listen to conservative talk radio and read conservative articles and blogs? If you did, which I doubt because of your obvious bias in your post (you are a feminist right?)you would know then that conservative men are constantly lashing back at the liberals who do this nonsense. Bull&*#@ about being afraid women doing better than men. Conservative men want their women to be successful. I want my daughter to grow up and be a captain of industry if she wants to. She is on a track to be pharmacologist – pays a hell of a lot better than a lazy male or female who chooses a minimum wage job when they are capable of more.

I agree with all of you who say the job determines the pay and my experience throughout the professional world I work in is that men and women in the same job rank get compensated the same. The difference is when you compare types of jobs and yes, women and men have often selected different types of jobs so pay will be different. Do you really think a female teacher should be paid the same as a male aeronautics engineer? Think people.

      • Karolyn

Oh, please no one is saying that a teacher should be paid the same as an aeronautical engineer. However, it is a known fact that men do receive more money than women for the same jobs. It is NEVER vice-versa. Of course it isn’t in every company or industry, but it does happen.

      • DaveH

        Karolyn,
Who decides who is worthy of what pay? If the employer and the employee can’t come to agreement, who else has a right to make that judgement? I don’t know where you’ve worked, but in the jobs I’ve had, there has been a wide discrepancy between performance from one worker to the other in the same job classification. If the employer and the employee can’t see eye to eye, how can some outside observer, who can’t possibly be privy to the amount of details those two know, make that call?
I would take my chances in the Free Market, and meanwhile pocket that money that would have gone to the busybodies.
We wouldn’t need to worry about scrambling and fighting for every dollar if Government wasn’t spending 40% of our money “saving” us from reality.

    • http://Moreexpensive,moreunknowproblems. Lewis Munn

I was raised in a conservative home, but both parents worked, and helped each other. And taught me in the home, and church, on different but equal, and the two becoming one by combining and supporting each other in what they did best.

I carried this on with my wife, She helped support in work she had trained for, and I helped with my work and supporting her with the kids, who have in turn found good wives and the same basic philosophy. The two become one and are stronger together than apart.

Never have figured out the Liberal need to compete and fight and change partners so often!

Feminism has gone from bad to horrible IMO-now dominated by the far left radicals. Why does anyone watch Rachel Madcow, Bill Maher, Special Ed, Chris Matthews, or Keith Oberdouche??? Their core audiences consists of mush-headed college students and senior citizens sitting in a government provided motorized scooter with a four hour old turd in their Depends.

    • http://Moreexpensive,moreunknowproblems. Lewis Munn

College students are mushy-headed because of the left-wing subversion of education starting back in the early 1900′s, or maybe before. Now oven a lot of professors are mush-heads.

We have a few colleges who still hold to real education, such as Hillsdale College…look it up.

But the costs of fighting off liberal attacks is high for a college!

I recall even back in my high school times, we had no discussions of the sides in WW2 and their beliefs and actions, and the final exam test was, “Who won?”!

The instructor was good, but even back then the Liberal movement forced a distortion in learning. I never really got the whole picture until a couple visits to Singapore and touring THEIR WW2 monument made me aware of the truth.

Made me realize just what the cost of real freedom is, and how the Liberals try to suppress it.

Currently Tom Minnery has a discussion of a trip to Normandy to see his background country. On Focus on the Family “Citizen link”, and no, it will not bite you or make you turn green and your teeth fall out!

Check it out as to the effects of war against evil, and how America back then threw evil back and how the people there feel about America even yet!

Liberals ought to expand their horizons with this short travelog, and conservatives need to see how our efforts helped so many. And at what cost.

It is too bad more of the rabid liberals and USA haters cannot go talk with those who have lived through the war and how THEY feel about the USA, even yet!!

But I’d bet the Liberals would be afraid to even watch the short travelog! Might get too close to reality!!

      • C130 Gunship

Lewis Munn……I didn’t say all college students are mush-headed, I get the Hillsdale College newsletters, and have my Hillsdale College pocket Constitution sitting right here next to my computer…Great minds think alike.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        C130,
i was getting the hillsdale Imprimus but they stopped coming, don’t know why. As for the pocket constitution, I still have about three of them left after ordering 10 from patriot network. sorry, they aren’t next to my ‘puter as it’s on my lap!! I check them quite often, though.

There are statistics to support every point of view.

Whiners are crawling all over, “adjusting” the data to fit their desired outcomes. There was a book out “proving’ that while Alexander the Great did not exist, he had an infinite number of arms! Fortunately, it was in a collection of Mathematical humor!

  • Katinalabama

Good article Ben Cyrstal. All these women are “Radical Feminist” that haven’t come to Michele Bachman’s defense. They ain’t that “Feminine” tho. They’re rabid Pro-Aborts as in killing pre-born babies. They emasculate men ect. Of course the MSM is attacking Bachman’s husband. Where were they when Obama was running? Where is NOW and other so called feminist groups on this issue of a conservative women being called vile and disgusting names? The “girly men” you mentioned are so not attractive in anyway. Being dumb as bricks, is another trait they share.

    • Nadzieja Batki

First of all, it is the women who created the men which now they hate? Who are the primary caregivers for children if not mothers and female teachers?
So now if you are against Bachman you are anti conservative women. Such baloney! She is not conservative anything but she will play so for the benefit of winning an election.
We better redefine what conservatism is because it looks too much like Liberalism lite.

  • Joyce from Loris

I went to work at a young age, went to college and made quite a good living. I supported myself and my son after his daddy decided he didn’t like being in a family situation. I have NEVER been paid less than a counter-part male employee. No matter where I worked, that did NOT happen. As a business owner, I never set down and determined that women would be paid this and men would be paid that. I determined that this JOB would pay this, and who ever was qualified for that job, got that pay. Period. As far as the comments that Bill Maher makes, we have to remember that he is not a MAN. He is filth, and anyone who watches, listens to him, are filth as well.

    • Karolyn

There will always be men who look down on, objectify or disparage women, no matter what their political views.

      • Joyce from Loris

Well, the same can be said about how women view men! There are women in this world who HATE men, for Pete’s sake. Have you noticed the commercials of today, where the dufus is primarily a white male? The “smart” people in the commercials are either a woman or a black male. Pay attention to that. I own a farm, and the USDA sends out news letters to farmers every quarter. One of the letters last year had an article in it about loans available to help farmers through struggling times. However, it stated that the loans were not available FOR WHITE MEN. I swear, I almost choked when I read that! Talk about discrimination! I called the USDA office, to question them if it was a mistake. Nope, no white men need apply! I just think that is terribly wrong.

      • Dan az

Thank you Joyce.I had a you tube on that very subject but can’t remember the little turps name that was talking to charlie B jangles and said that no money was to be given to white males and of course charlie agreed. We are the minority and have been for quite awhile.

      • Joyce from Loris

That would be Chris Dodd, talking to Rangle about using the TARP money for those “shovel ready” jobs. No white men would be hired with that money, even if a white man had 25 years of experience in building bridges, don’t hire him. Hire blacks, mexicans and women. I, too, was in an outrage, and wrote both of those jerks scorching letters. I get very upset that white men have ALLOWED this to happen to them. My daddy was a white man, my husband is a white man, my sons are white men and my grandsons will be white men. I’m on their side. Women sometimes think they not as important as men, but I know better. We all have our roles, and it makes for harmony in your family. My husband has asked me “why do the grand children always run to you when they get a boo boo?”. Well, ’cause I’m the mama. It’s the same as they always run to him when they want a jar opened, ’cause he is strong.

      • Dan az

That was it!Thanks :) You sound like you are a wonderful Mom.

      • JeffH

Thanks Joyce for sharing that. :)

      • DaveH

Yep, we now have tyranny of the majority by the minority. Exactly what our founders knew would happen if Government got too big.

Sounds like you are a very level-headed woman, Joyce.

      • Karolyn

That’s crazy! I have known white men who, though having no income, could not get Food Stamps. We all know there are disparities in many areas.

      • Joyce from Loris

Karolyn, what’s crazy? Which comment are you replying to?

      • Karolyn

About the USDA. I thought you’d be able to tell I was talking about that by my comment about white men getting Food Stamps. What I’m saying is that, yes, disparity exists; and it’s a damn shame.

      • Lost in Paradise

Our government also does not like white immigrants from countries that most of our forefathers came from. They seem to prefer Muslims, and people from that sewer south of the boarder.

      Very well said, Joyce……..High Five!

  • Carol A

Despite all the whoop la on the womans lib ticket. I will sayt that I grew up the daughter of divorced working mother in the sixties. She could only hold a position of secretary or bookkeeper. Gee, women of the time actually aspired to be secretaries. That made you real important. Some states would not allow women to get a mortgage on a house by themselves without a male co signer. Jobs came available in her department and the man would get it because he had a family to support. My mother was supporting two daughters. Child support laws were lax and alot of men got away from paying child support. Gee…. does any body remember the June Cleaver days?

As a mother myself…. there was nothing better than to be able to be home with my children… but once they were off to school I considered myself a functioning individual with something to contribute. … not to mention in todays economy … that contribution was something like providing a better life for my childrens future. …the American Dream. ….Self Sufficiency.

    • Commonsense

What is that all about. My mom was an alcoholic who left my dad, my three brothers and me. And in the process of leaving took the only new truck my father ever purchased. When asked if it made him mad that she took his only truck, he said it was better than her taking us kids and passing out at the wheel again. And this was also after running our ranch over a quarter million in debt trying several different hospitals trying to help her. Finally, my father realized that you can’t help an addict, they have to help themselves. He figured the truck was cheap insurance against taking us kids. She would have gotten us too, in the divorce, but she failed to show up for the three custody hearings the judge had set. Come to find out she had split the state and was running from the law on a hit-and-run charge. The system fought my dad from the time he started taking her to clinics and hospitals until the judge, in frustration, finally awarded my father custody. The whole time he was trying to find help for her, the doctors(mostly women)kept telling my dad he wasn’t supporting her enough or he wasn’t being understanding enough, blah-blah. Well, let’s see, he was working two jobs, farming 2,000 acres of dry land, taking in horses to break and taking care of 4 boys, ages 2 to 12, and still managing to make all the meeting with the counselors and doctors for mom. There isn’t one of you sad whining single moms out there who could have carried water to my father, let alone done what he did. And the whole time, never a down moment, never a cross word about my mom. Even when I would get frustrated and wish she would just go away, my dad always chastised me by saying it wasn’t my mom doing this, it was the aclohol. He will always be way more of human being than I will probably ever be. And as far as child support, women can’t even be filed on for it if they are the ones that walk away from the family. And don’t tell me that doesn’t happen often, because it does. Its just that most men don’t complain about it and put their shoulders into it and work harder to support their children, and about half the time they still have to pay their ex-wives, lest they become homeless. Bah, this equality crap is just that, crap. Women who try to be like men are no longer even women. When men and women wake up and realize that men and women are different, But we are both human, maybe thats when things will finally level out. But I will tell you right now, the government sure as hell can’t fix it so just keep them out of it!

      • Joyce from Loris

Wow, Commonsense, what a story! You have much to be proud about your father. You were blessed to have him. I agree with much that you say, and I pray that the example that your mom left for you concerning women does not affect how you feel about other women. Take your example from that brave, wonderful man you call DADDY. He is they type of man ALL people admire.

      • Karolyn

What a wonderful father you had! You are very fortunate.

God made man and woman different, but complimentary, interlocking to become one whole functional unit.

Modern Feminism is going sgsaisnt how God made the two sexesa, and so does not ork well, regardless of what the feminists think! Moasat are so hate filed they will not even look at the why of it.

It is too bad the children wind up pawns all too often and their growth to full humanity is stunted.

      • Lost in Paradise

Glad to hear there are other dads out there that raise their sons and daughters.I’m also one of them, and would not have traded it for anything. I recieved full custody when my youngest was about 8months old. Glad to know it all worked out for you and yours. Not so with others in the same boat. Mother got custody and the kids went to hell in a hand basket.

      • Cawmun Cents

I am a proud single father with 2 teenagers.I went through the court system, and was forced to seek an attorney to get my divorce finalized. One thing I can say about the California Department of Human Assistance is that they are of little assistance to anyone. With the exception of the mediator that I had,I see no redeeming factor in the deparments existence.I had a female mediator so I thought I was screwed. But when she read what I wrote in my deposition, she sided with me.Gentlemen take note!:Never use the word I and the word Me,in your deposition.Use the word Us,referring to you and your children. That is the very soundest advise I can give a man in regards to courtroom politesse. The court likes it when you include your kids in your thinking processes. If you use the words Me and I often….beware.Dont speak of how much your spouse destroyed your life, and of how great you are…they have heard all that before.Speak of the plans you have for your children.Make it clear to the court that they are tantamount in your life. You may be surprised at the reaction of the court if you apply a little common sense to your appeal for custody.Of course if you are a louse who is trying to make a mockery of fatherhood then disregard this thread….haw!-CC.

      • DaveH

        Good advice, Cawmun.

      • Jana

        Cawmun,
That is great advice, even though I have never had to go through any of this. Bless you for being such a good father, and haw back. :)

      • DaveH

Sad story, Common. But please don’t let that sour you on women. And you are correct that Government should stay the hell out, other than splitting up the assets fairly.
I think there are several things that could be done to make split-ups more amicable.
One would be to establish the same child support for all non-custodial parents regardless of pay scale. That would end all the bickering over what kind of job the non-custodial parent had from one time to the other. And no decent father (or sometimes mother) would not help their children out voluntarily if they had the money to do so. The children of those who aren’t decent would fare much better if that parent wasn’t hanging around anyway. Yeah, the lawyers would get poorer. Does anybody here care about that?
Another would be to have the children spend one year with one parent, and the next year with the other parent (with reasonable visitation of course). That would make it pretty stupid for the non-custodial to use the children as weapons since they could suffer the same fate the next year. I know, many people would say that’s not fair for the kids if they have to change schools. Yes, but that doesn’t stop the military services from shipping their people all over the world, does it? Also, the children that I have known who changed schools often tend to be much better at making acquaintances easily, and at networking later in life, which I think you know is a prerequisite for a successful career. Again the lawyers would get poorer (boo hoo).
Bottom line, we should pass a few simple laws governing breakups, and take as much as possible out of the hands of arbitrary courts.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Commonsense,
I tip my hat to your DAD! He was a good man. My father was much the same. My birth mother died when I was 5 and my dad raised me, my sister and also took in my half brother and half sister untill their other family got involved. He treated them EXACTLY the same as me, no different. He worked doubles to make ends meet at times and finally the court stepped in and said I could no longer stay with him as he worked seconds. he paid a couple to take me in and I came home on weekends. he made sure i had everything I needed and it tore him up to leave me each sunday nite. He finally married my step mom and I went to live with them again till I joined the army at 17. He was a good man as well.

  • Thinking About

How can any post or comment on womens lib intol you have worked and lived in a world where your sex predetermined you should be paid less and are less important. Learn to live with women being important. For a site to rail against sharia law to even start a fight on women issues shows who is backing this concept. For this writer to place in print how it is so terrible words spoken by others who does not have their same opinion and write with such disguise is even worse. Get over yourself and try to find every day of your life something positive you might be able to look on one day as a great moment and something good happened. Don’t always think negative and become positive it will make your world happier.

    • Karolyn

Thinking – Don’t you realize that there is a whole industry around negative thinking? It’s called “news.” Of course,I would imagine the most successful bloggers also are the negative ones. We are a nation of complainers.

      • http://personalliberty.com frank

        look whos talking lol.

      • Thinking About

I do realize this is a world of complainers and they are never able to seek resolve anything. Thank goodness our forefathers had the foresight and ability to set forth ideas which still serve us today.

      • Dan az

So Karolyn let me ask you this,Why aren’t the women libs screaming from the roof tops about shari law?Where are they now?

      • Karolyn

Dan – NO ONE is “screaming from the rooftops” these days; however, there are many women’ groups working with Muslim women regarding their problems.

      • http://Moreexpensive,moreunknowproblems. Lewis Munn

I too have wondered. Seems like a deathwish on their part…they really want a religious man to subjugate them, it seems.

Tho one muslim lady, not necessarily a feminist one, commented long ago about how being subjugated gave her so much money and jewelry she had all she wanted from life. Plus she only had to “give” one day in 4 or more. The rest of the time was all hers. Kinda selfish!

She loved her man’s money, not really hims, and used her body to get it from him.

      • Karolyn

It’s all really subjective, isn’t it? Looked at from the Muslim women’s viewpoint, this is what they were raised with and what they believe, although more and more of them are breaking out.

      • Dan az

        Karolyn
Not for long as I see it.The koran is supposed to be their bible and to go against it means death.

      • Karolyn

Well, Dan, it comes back to how strict they are. There absolutely ARE Muslims who do not adhere strictly to the Koran! They have great modern marriages and relationships.

      • Christin

        Dan az,

        GREAT POINT !

Sharia Law would take RIGHTS away from ALL women.

‘Women’s Lib’ only serves hard core LIBERAL Women who wear the pants in the family (like Hillary Clinton) and puts a power career before being a tender wife in marriage or a responsible mother of child(ren).

Any woman who has a REAL Feminine side who are wise and maybe educated, a wife, and a mom, religious, or even have a responsible fulfilling career is Discriminated against (like Sarah Palin)… because the Women’s Liberation Movement DOESN’T push the philosophy that women should be be respectable ladies, be faithful to God, love a man in marriage, or become a mother and care about raising a family as well as have the choice to have a fulfilling career or be a house wife or stay-at-home-mom.

You all (including men) should read” The ‘Proverbs 31′ Woman”…
…she is a wife, a mother, has a job, and does it all with kindness, dignity, wisdom, and is called blessed by her children and is praised by her husband.

      • Dan az

        Christin
You should start a movement you would be great at it! :)

      • Karolyn

Christin – Yes, there may be feminists like he ones you describe; however, they are way out of date; and the current climate is more all-encompassing. Forget women like Jeanine Garofalo. They are just bitter PEOPLE!

Men forget that women, when men cross them, will get their own way in society or a marriage either a good way or any other way by manipulation, playing the martyr, conniving, weasling. The women in the middle east may have covered themselves in rags from head to foot but they still know how to make life miserable for men.

      • Karolyn

“Karolyn and women not unlike her like Sharia law.”

        What a ridiculous statement!

Now you said a mouthful of truth. Complaining about the other guy has become a national passtime.

    • DaveH

If we had Free Markets, the level of discrimination would be at its lowest. Those companies who hired the best workers regardless of sex, race, or religion, would be the ones who produced the best, cheapest products. The discriminatory companies wouldn’t be able to compete with them. Companies with poor judgement and products can only compete in non-free markets by buying the politicians.
During my career, I witnessed several events where the employer would avoid minorities like the plague simply because they carried the extra liability of potential lawsuits.
Free markets would take care of many social ills that are either created or at least not correctly addressed by dint of Government interference in the Marketplace.
For instance, companies these days screen the heck out of their potential employees, because they have so much to lose at the hands of Government if they make the wrong choice. This severely handicaps those workers who do well on the job, but just don’t have the flair for selling themselves. In Free Markets, it would be easy to get a job. The rest would depend on your performance. If you didn’t perform, yes, you’d be gone from that job, but the next wouldn’t be hard to find because, again, the next employer would have little to lose if you didn’t prove to be a capable worker.
I’ve known many workers, in these modern Unfree Markets, who have a dramatic ability to sell themselves, but really aren’t that talented when it comes to on-the-job performance.

  • s c

Uncle Damnscam is probably the main beneficiary of the ‘feminist’ movement [that feminist movement thingy is not to be confused with a bowel movement, though it is somehow disturbingly related]. Note the ease with which feminists managed to literally castrate so many men in the last 35 years or so.
Pay special attention to what happened to those in the media. Christine Matthews comes to mind, especially when ‘he’ gets another episode of that damned tingling leg syndrome from thinking about Bummer too much. Careful, Matthews, you might also get cravings for dark chocolate and feel compelled to move to San Francisco. Dan Rather finally got his comeuppance, compliments of feministic hatred of pursuing the FACTS.
When it comes to Maher, well, he sure does imitate a woman-hater. You’d think the feminists would pick up on that and rip Maher a new one every time he does it. Then again, feminists have severe problems with being consistent.
Only conservatives, it seems, have to endure their special wingnut wrath. It’s other WOMEN (and ethnic groups) who have to endure special brands of insanity when it comes to politics. According to
feministic thinkology, ALL women and members of racial groups MUST be liberaliberal space cadets or wannabe brownshirts.
Maybe it’s that thinkology that brings out their obsessive urges to @#^&*-slap each other into submission. Did you know that certain hardcore feminists consider being married a form of RAPE?
Well, if feminists can’t gather enough integrity to put people like Maher (or Ted Kennedy) in their place, then the ultralibs can have them. Conservatives have a few wingnuts, too, though we don’t go out of our way to see how much stupidity we can get away with in the name of social justice or intellectual superiority.

  • DaveH

I think the women’s lib movement was created to convince women that working outside the home was more desirable than raising a family. Why? So Government could grab more revenues, and so people wouldn’t be so apt to wonder — why could one worker no longer support a family decently?
The Leaders will try anything to divert our attention away from the fact that they take (and waste) more than 40% of our Gross Domestic Product.

    • http://deleted Claire

DaveH–I went to work when my kids started school. We wanted to buy our own home instead of renting. I have to admit there were times back then that I wish I hadn’t started working but I look back now and know that my kids did come first and foremost–their well-being was my priority or I would have quit my job and stayed home. As parents, my husband and I did everything with our kids, we did not neglect them, instead we put the housework etc. aside to spend time with our kids. We were busy as heck, now I wonder how I did “it all.” As far as womens lib, I really did not pay much attention to it except for the wages aspect. If I did the job of a man I would expect equal pay. The job I had and still have basically pays the same to a man or a woman. Hence, it worked out okay for me. Back then I had enough self-confidence to know that I could handle just about anything and I still can. I did not need womens lib to guide me or “aid” me. I have to laugh when I think of this–the bra-burning. Oh, there were many times I could have burned my bra. I didn’t like them back then and I still don’t.

I can appreciate this response. It tells my story too.

      • American Citizen

Same here. I worked before I was married, stayed home the first 15 years to be a true “homemaker”, then went back to work to earn extra so we could send our children to private schools. I quit when our youngest was three, then went back to a part-time job after she was in school. Nobody suffered neglect, in fact, the children learned how to become responsible adults.

      • Frank

Yes, and in fact a hard thing for a parent to learn is that yes, the kids can take care of themselves. I’ve taken two crews of teenage boys to Philmont for +60 mile backpacking trips and as the rangers say, load them up. They can carry a far bigger load than you think. God bless the children.

      • JeffH

Claire…you were raised responsibly and it appears you have, in turn, passed that responsibility on to your children just as my parents did. I tip my hat to you.

When I was first married in the early 70′s, my friend who went to the University of Texas and a true women’s libber, took me to a NOW meeting. I thought it was the stupidest viewpoints I had ever heard. I liked being a wife and staying true to my husband (never thought he was trying to keep me bound or anything like that).

And of course, we all know today, that the majority of the women in this group are lesbians and just wanted to denigrate men.

I agree with you. I thought the only thing wrong at that time were the jobs where women were paid less than men. Luckily most of the time I worked, I got equal pay. What I resented most, and still do, was the start of using ms instead of miss or mrs. I won’t answer to ms. I am Mrs. ——, and I earned it.

eddie47d–Have a safe trip. Make sure your vehicle is tuned up good and that you have good tires. We were in Belvidere last weekend at a dog show–it is near Rockford. It was hotter than hades and we saw a lot of blown tire remnants on I39 and I55. We also saw a semi turned over and a grey pick-up truck in the ditch. Apparently the accident just happened, an ambulance was enroute and there were 4 state police cars in attendance.
Right now it is 99 degrees with a 112 heat index. It is not fit outside for man nor beast. The dogs sure aren’t getting much exercise. My air is running non-stop. It is 80 degrees in the house and I have the air set on 75. I bet a person could fry an egg on the sidewalk. I think I’ll try it!!

Claire – I saw on the news where they cooked a steak in a car on the dashboard to medium rare in 2 hours. Here in SC, the temp on the phone company sign was 106 yesterday. When it rained the other evening, it felt like a sauna afterwards. CAN’T WAIT TIL FALL! I tell my dogs every day how lucky they are to be living in an air conditioned house! What did we do before air? I know my mom used to open the windows in the house every night to let in cool air, and we only had fans. Of course, that was NJ, and I don’t remember such hot weather. What cool air?!

      • http://deleted Claire

Karolyn: Egads when I think about my childhood and having no electricity I wonder how I dealt with the heat. It is funny, I don’t even remember being hot and miserable–I just remember my Mother telling me to sit down and cool off because I was so red in the face. Ahh, youth! I can remember the “electrical” storms–this is what they were called back then, never heard of tornadoes at that time. I remember coming back from the outhouse one day and a bolt of lightning struck–I screamed and ran like the dickens for the house. I also remember the soft gentle rains. Now when it rains here there is always tornado warnings and watches. Perhaps we will get some gentle rains instead of severe thunder storms, I sure hope so. I get off work at 12:15 p.m. on Fridays–I got home and I haven’t left the house. Too hot to go anywhere–at least I save money by staying home!! It is back up to 99 degrees right now. Fall is wonderful but I do not want the time to go by so fast.

      • http://deleted Claire

Karolyn–I just remembered something–talking about the outhouse–when I was a kid we had a little joke:

Have you ever read the book “Race to the Outhouse by Willie Makeit and Betty Wont?”

My sisters and I used to really giggle about this–we thought we were clever.

      • http://deleted Claire

eddie47d–Enjoy your visit with your Mother. Treasure every moment that you spend with her. I am glad to hear she is active and doing well. I miss my Mother very much, she passed away in 1991–I can still hear her voice and see her face. I can still hear her say “Claire Jean” get that bucket of water in here! I was such a little thing and getting a bucket of water from the well was tough-the bucket of water weighed as much as I did. So many memories and the time flew by too fast.

      • eddie47d

Thanks Claire I will enjoy every moment with her. You are kind.

Dave- Why does everything have to have a conspiracy behind it and be government related? Why can’t it be taken at face value? Women were fed up and wanted to be treated as equals – simple! In many areas we are still not on a par with men when it comes to compensation. Some states are worse than others – The state I live in comes to mind. Unfortunately, movements and legislation will never truly equalize the sexes as long as the opposite is passed down from generation to generation. Women will still be viewed as sex objects and less powerful than men in a patriarchal society. Thankfully, tremendous strides have been made, and more and more people are realizing that women are the stronger sex in numerous ways.

      • Joyce from Loris

In South Carolina, women are paid the same as men for doing the same job. So, where do you work that you are not paid the same as men?

      • Karolyn
      • Joyce from Loris

Read that article, and I took away from it that women just make less money than men, not that women are paid less for doing the same job as men. Did I get the information correct? Historically, women have always chosen certain fields to enter, such as teaching and nursing. Men have chosen other fields, such as engineering and management, which are clearly higher paying fields than teaching and nursing. Doctors are paid more than nurses. Thankfully, women have begun to realize this and are choosing the higher paid fields. Maybe shortly in the future, you will see that women make as much as men, because their choices have changed.

      • Push comes to shove

        Karolyn,
you linked to the NWLC (National Womens Law Center) to prove that women are better than men, i think the view on that link is a little biased, don’t you?

Women have always been empowered throughout americas history, but some women in the 60′s (i guess) and some before (voting rights) thought that running a household was not a position of power when quite to the contrary it was as most women ran the finances, grommed the children for life in society, and keep all in the home in orderly condition. And besides that point, there are many women who have contributed to our nation in meaningful ways, inventors, statesmen (I mean stateswoman), etc. To believe equality is about equal pay is short sighted and narrowly viewed. Should anyone be paid the same for the same work? Yes, but if that is all it is about then you lose focus on or important issues.

From what i see since women have empowered themselves (i believe they already were) society has suffered.

Power to the women, but MORE importantly it should be power to the family.

      • Don

Do you suppose you get minimum wage because you don’t sound to smart, you probably get what your worth even though your probably a nice person…

      • Bob

And judging from what you have revealed about yourself in your posts, you are grossly overpaid even at minimum wage.

      • home boy

now we know why you complain about the rich paying their fair share. iwould think that you have more skills than what minimum wages pay and if your area does not have higher paying jobs than move to them if possible. but don’t take your woes out on the rich. most of them have worked their butt off to attain their wealth.

      • Hazmae

        Don said

Do you suppose you get minimum wage because you don’t sound to smart, you probably get what your worth even though your probably a nice person…

Don you don’t sound TOO smart yourself. YOU’RE probably not one who should be talking about other people being dumb.

      • Karolyn

Push – I just wonder about how many families need two incomes to make sure their kids have the latest gadgets and clothes.

      • Karolyn

Hazmae – My IQ is quite high. I have always received lower wages because I worked in jobs that I enjoyed and that were meaningful – primarily nonprofits. I have also worked for myself.

      • Karolyn

Hazmae – Sorry, the above post was meant for Don.

      • Karolyn

Push – The stats come from the US Dept. of Census.

      • Push comes to shove

        Karolyn,
As you and i both know there alot of 2 income families that struggle just to pay the rent, bill, and put food on the table. I have a cousin and her husband who work and struggle, thier 19 y-o daughter works and goes to school and helps support that household. Where is the empowerment in that when it taking income from 3 people to stay afloat. I see where many things contribute to that such as high inflation (and will get worse), no solid education or skills taught in public schools, etc.

What do you see? I see our OVER-empowered government causing most of these fiascos, but some may also be to poor choices by the individual.

      • DC/Tex

Here comes Karolyn again, the one who wants our children taught the gay lifestyle in public school and want a Mosque in every neighborhood and has many queer and Muslim friends. Now admitting she wants more rites for women and probably thinks it is a womans rite to murder unborne babies. I have been praying that she gets to know and has a relationship with Jesus since I started reading her posts. Please everyone ignore her ignorance.

      • Karolyn

Bob just hates anyone who disagrees with him.

      • independant thinker

karolyn………I read the article and NOWHERE does the article itself address “equal pay for equal work”. It just talks about women earning less than men. When you can post something giving side by side comparisons for men and women doing the same work then you might have a point but until then you are just blowing hot air.

      • Christin

        DC/TEX,

        AMEN… and I second that!

      • JeffH

Karolyn, I think what is important to point out here is that you are a biased feminist and you just don’t like men in general. This has been your “modus operandi”, it seems, whenever you can interject your opinion on the equality of men and women.

Can you not see that the liberal hate for non-liberal thinking women has become a regularity with these Obama loving sucking scumbags and no one, and I do mean no one, from the progressive side of the fence will stand up and say “enough is enough”…stop with the biased hate & rhetoric against these women. I most certainly haven’t heard anything from Hillary, Pelosi, Reid or the O’man and they’re supposed to be our leaders? Try to get a grip and join the real people just for the change of pace.

      • eddie47d

Hang in there Karolyn and ignore DC for she assumes to much and is also distasteful. I doubt if Jesus will be knocking on her door.

      • Ellen

‘Push’ I agree with you. I’ve been a working mom and a stay-at-home mom. While it is true that the womens’ movement helped women get into professional careers, like law and medicine that weren’t options before, the great majority of working moms are not in great careers. They simply have jobs. Our economy evolved to one where 2 incomes are needed. I’ve seen kids sent to school while sick because no one can stay home with them. I’ve seen kids who go to school then daycare or after-school sport who are not happy. They don’t have the joy of creative play with the other neighborhood kids. Although I had a successful career and enjoyed it, I’m more proud of the childhood I was able to provide my kids when I stopped working. Is taking away the joys of childhood worth a woman’s career? Maybe. It’s certainly not worth it for a job.

      • eddie47d

Now Jeff is replacing Bob in sounding like i41. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed again with that name calling?? Standing up for either sex doesn’t mean you hate the opposite sex which you are implying. I see very little “hate” towards woman who stay home ( maybe a little envy at times). I see nothing but respect for mothers who stay home with kids. I know the Octomom raised the hair on everyone’s back but that was both sides commenting on her. For you to gang bang on Hillary,Pelosi with all her kids and Michelle Obama was far fetched. They may be feminists but they all love their children and do a great job of raising them. You loose on your radical rant.

      • Old Henry

        DC/TEX:

Karolyn touts Musilms on the one hand and womens rights on the other. Just wait until the rag-heads take over and see what happens to her, and all womens, rights. Sounds like she is a walking contradiction in terms.

      • JeffH

eddie, nice try but just a wee bit short. I’m sure you can do better than that. Be carefull though, I’d hate for you to become both shortsighted and a hypocrit. Now clueless? Yes, that you confirm every day.

      • JeffH

Speaking of rants, here is eddie’s rant and response to my comment about the left’s attack and hate towards conservative women and then questioning the leadership of Obama, Pelosi, Reid and Hillary. He can’t even stay on track. Delusional, forgetfull and farfetched is what this comment by eddie is…I think eddie ought to reread my comment…seems I didn’t mention Michelle or anybodies kids…but what the heck, if a liberal like eddie couldn’t lie, he wouldn’t have a reason to run his chops.

Eddie says: “For you to gang bang on Hillary,Pelosi with all her kids and Michelle Obama was far fetched. They may be feminists but they all love their children and do a great job of raising them. You loose on your radical rant.”

It’s pretty obvious who is being far fetched here.(eddie)

      • eddie47d

Get real Jeff! The article was talking about Women and you mentioned Obama. Now did you forget that women have kids or are you just trying to be desperate again and saying nothing of importance??

      • DaveH

Jeff is right, Eddie. Your comment was a complete distortion of what Jeff really said. The least you could do, since you insist on personal attacks instead of factual debates, is to get it straight what somebody is really saying.

      • DC/Tex

Everyone please ignore Eddie,s ignorance and pray for him, he has family from the great state that produced the Antichrist presidential impostor and his gang of Chicago crime mobsters in the whorehouse surrounded by the evil witch Nancy, crooked greedy Harry, tax dodger Charlie, and evil sucker Barney. Eddie also thinks we should be teaching the gay agenda (the worst cancer on our morals) to our grade school children and also wants a Mosque in all of our neighborhoods.
And, by the way Eddie, Jesus knocked on mine and my wifes door many years ago and has dwelt with us many years, we pray that the same will happen for you and yours. We have been married a mer 42 years, 3 sons, 5 grandchildren, yes God has truly blessed our home.

      • DanB

My family lives off of one income and we have four children. Things are tight financially. My wife complains that I am constantly working. Actually, I spend my evenings studying as much as I can. We plan to have more children (God willing) and that means I need to earn more money as we cannot afford more kids otherwise. We bought our van used and pray often that it keeps working. We sold my car when it would not pass inspection because we did not have the money to fix it–good thing we only live a mile from my day job. In addition to study, I am trying to start my own business (the education dovetails on this as well as I hope opportunities to improve the day job too). When we married, my wife worked until we had our first child. I applied for a job and took a chance on a career path change that doubled my meager wages at the time allowing us to replace my wife’s income. And, while I am acquiring computer certifications with my current education plan, I am not a college graduate. Nor am I attending college now. We ate better when I was unemployed and we received government aid. I knew that government aid is not designed to encourage prosperity. And I knew that I wanted personal freedom. So I chose to work hard and sacrifice so we can pay for our own apartment, our own food, and our own bills. Sure, the people on food stamps and government assistance now eat and live better than we do. But my goal was to push beyond the ceiling set by government. That meant I had to get by with less even as I made more money. And some of the money we have been blessed with we have dumped back into improving me so I can potentially earn more. My poor wife feels trapped at home because we don’t have money for recreation, especially since the cost of four kids adds up fast. Not to mention the challenge. Our oldest will start school–young family. My wife has gone without new clothes. So much she sacrifices as we struggle to make ends meet.

      • eddie47d

Old Jeff comes out as nasty as ever and now you got DC on your hate bandwagon. Conservatives are far from righteous and you two prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. Do we have to quarantine your foul mouths? So grow up.

      • JeffH

eddie, you really need to seek some serious help…whatever the heck yer talkin’ bout is way different from what’s been said. You be in a totally different stratosphere.

Seriously dude, you need to seek some help!

      • Thinking About

I lived and worked in a state which had law on the books which would not allow females to work but 9 hours a day so they was not able to get the jobs which paid more. Therefore I was disqualified only by my sex. Action taken by the courts ruled this was not equal rights. Even though this had been changed for many years it still did not stop unequal treatment by sex. I lived the actions and know how there is a difference between men and women.

      • Karolyn

Dan – You are sacrificing LIFE for MONEY! What good is making more money when your family has no quality time together. I know too many people who did the same thing and ended up dieing before they were able to enjoy their families and the fruits of their labors. Believe me; it does happen! We only have TODAY! The good old work ethic is not necessarily so good when one gives up their life for it. You must be quite young. I have also known people who were in your position where the wife became disillusioned and tired of not having any kind of social life beyond her kids. That can result in dischord in the marriage, which is also not good for the kids. I just hope, for your sake, you don’t end up having an early heart attack by pushing so hard. Either that or don’t end up in divorce court.

      • thinking

“Thankfully, tremendous strides have been made, and more and more people are realizing that women are the stronger sex in numerous ways”
Equality is in the mind of the beholder! So your idea is women are better than men, good for you. Where is the equality when one is stronger than the other? I believe women screw things up just as much as men. I don’t want to live in a country without both. When more rights are given to one then less rights are given to the other. The government determines that women make less than men, how do they do it? I make less than many women so I must be a women?

      • Karolyn
      • Hazmae

        Karolyn
As has been said here before, the link you posted does NOT address the issue that women CHOOSE to pursue lower paying jobs/careers. Are you saying that this legislation would regulate what employers pay for different jobs? ie: they would have to pay teachers the same as doctors because a majority of teachers are women while the majority of doctors are men? That’s what I’m getting from the link so thanks for bringing it to my attention. I will be writed my reps asking them to OPPOSE any such act.

      • Karolyn

No, the legislation addresses equal pay for equal work.

      • eddie47d

Hazmae; Where did you contrive that theory. Karolyn didn’t imply that. Many Doctors make different wages because their skills are different. School teachers who do the same job should be paid the same unless they get a merit raise. If a women works in construction and does the same heavy work then she should receive the same pay. If a man wants to be a receptionists he should receive the same pay not the pay of a doctor. Quite simply but women’s pay is still 83% of what men make. There are also women making more than men and that average is rising. As a nation we are steadily improving but it all comes down to equal pay for equal work.

      • DaveH

Speaking of Force, Karolyn, do you really think that this can’t happen here?
        http://healthfreedoms.org/2011/07/18/131-children-vaccinated-at-gunpoint-in-malawi/

      • American Citizen

Wages depend upon the job. Liking your job is just as important.

      • Push comes to shove

        Karloyn,
Just to clarify, and some may disagree with me, that is OK in my book.

Women are not the stronger sex, niether are men. I see men & women as equals, apparently you do not.

Men are more likely to use reasoming without letting feeling and emotion cloud thier judgement.

Women are more likely to combine the heads and thier heart when making a decision.

Neither one way is superior, alone each can have its flaws and advantages, but men and women together can equal 100% sucess.

In my opinion to see it any other way is sexist. Are you sexists? Rhetorical question for self reflection, no response neccessary.

      • Karolyn

Although no response was asked for, I just wanted to make a few points. I have no problem with men in general and am not sexist. I do work with some women who have a bad attitude about men, but that comes from the work (domestic violence and sexual assault). Many of them have been in abusive relationships in the past. I do believe that women come out ahead of men when compared overall. A recently published book, “Man Down,” shows research to back this contention up. The book “Why Men Don’t Listen and Women Can’t Read Maps” also gives a good picture of the differences between men and women, while condemning neither and providing information for a better understanding and communication between the sexes. A very interesting subject.

      • Push comes to shove

I do NOT want an answer to the Question “Are you sexists?”, I DO however want to know how in the world you can believe one sex is superior to the other. In my religious beliefs GOD has told me, through his words in the Bible (No i am not previlidged enough for direct conversation), that a husband should submit himself to his wife, and the wife should submit herself to her husband as they are partner in raising the family (by the way the reason for marriage, a christian institution, going back to previous blogs).

      • Old Henry

        Push:

I am not sexist. I love women and firmly believe that every man sould own at least one. Maybe i’m a closet Mulim. LOL!

      • Kate8

Old H – You devil you!

You goad karolyn. I’ll bet you are really a great guy.

      • Hazmae

        Karolyn
First, you misunderstood the message. I was DEFENDING you to Don who said you didn’t sound too smart.

Then to the other post. I believe equal pay for equal work has already been covered by legislation. We have enough regs without repeating them. The link you posted just compares earnings without taking into account that many women, like you, have CHOSEN to work in lower paying fields. The only way to address the inequality of pay would be for women to CHOOSE fields that pay better.

      • Karolyn

Hazmae – Yes, I corrected my response to you.

You must have heard of the “glass ceiling.” It does exist. I recently saw a piece on TV (can’t recall even what it was about) that interviewed people working for a specific company; and the employees were forbidden to share salary information with other employees because if the women found out how much the men were making for the same work, there would be hell to pay. It still happens!

      • always right

Sorry, Karolynn, but women AREN’T men’s equals. I can carry you out of a burning building. Can you carry ME out of a burning building? while I was working as a fireman, I could do a one man raise on a 95 lb, 30 ft extension ladder by myself. I could hump a 60 lb hose pack a BA and spare bottle weighing in @ and additional 40 lb’s up 14 flights of stairs while wearing another 15 lbs of protective gear. I could work the 70 lb. “jaws of life” all the way around a car, opening all 4 doors and cutting off the roof in under 3 minutes. I weighed 180 back then. I could also carry one of my fellow Marines out of harm’s way. I now weight 230 lbs. Could you do the same with me? Can you tell me why the stress fractures incident rate among women in boot camp is about 3 times that of their male counterparts? Do you REALLLLLYYYYYYY have the illusion that men and women are equal? If so, princess, you need a wake-up call.

      • Jeep

Of course, one also wonders why by Army Regualtion a female 5 ton driver is REQUIRED to have a male TC, while a male driver can have either a male or a female TC. The answer is that the AVERAGE female cannot change a tire on a 5 ton. So, the Army expects the male to change a flat while the female “assists”. How’s that for equality?

      • Karolyn

always – You’re only talking about physical strength; and there are women just as strong as men, though they certainly are in the minority. I’m talking about other abilities, like using both sides of the brain at the same time making for a more balanced brain, multi-tasking, peripheral vision, sensitivity, intuition, pain threshhold, patience, sociability, empathy, better immune systems (because of estrogen), etc.

      • thinking

multi-tasking maybe good for some things but not all! Being sick is often found more in women then men! Because there is a difference doesn’t make something better or worse. I like eggs, my wife doesn’t eat them, she has heart problems, I do not. I may get a cold, but haven’t missed a day of work for over a year. Many differences are good to help complete tasks that one could not do, like bringing up children. Without a dought women are needed, but children also need a dad in there life. Yes we can survive without a mother or father but we would be missing that relationship. Just like many miss a relationship with God.

      • always right

I find it telling that the “tolerant”, “kind” and “diversity loving” folks on the left see nothing wrong with attacking her for her sex, trying to attack her record (when she’s been there voting more than blackbarry even dreamed of) and for a disability. Doesn’t that show where the REAL hate, prejudice and discrimination lives?

      • DaveH

No, Karolyn, tremendous strides have NOT been made, except in the Growth of Government. I wish they issued stock. I would have bought some and participated in that tremendous growth.
Strides are not made when people are forced to do things they don’t want to do. Like companies being forced to hire workers they don’t want, or pay employees more than they think they are worth. There is no greater test of fairness than Free Markets. But Free Markets have been replaced with jawboning politicians (and their bureaucrats), who make their decisions based on what gets them reelected the best. That’s a large part of why we’re in this current mess.
And, Karolyn, I have no doubt that I could run your life better than you can. Is that my business? Definitely not. So, the question is, why are you so happy to run other peoples’ lives through your bully Government?

      • http://?? Joe H.

        DaveH,
I wouldn’t touch THAT stock with YOUR money!! They spend ALL the profit!! (excess taxes) They’re BROKE and A fine hair from bankruptcy!!!

      • Frank

Wow, why do you think it’s the governments job to level the playing field. This is a prime example of everything wrong with our society today. Don’t like your employer, go find a different one.

    • Handyman

David, the argument is not about equality at all. The focus is on equality, but in truth there is no need for such an argument.
If we want to talk about equality in a union, (the true meaning of union) or a team, made up of individuals good at the individual tasks, but necessarily good at all the jobs that are necessary to comlete the job at hand.
In baseball, not everyone is a pitcher.
In football, not everyone is a quarterback.
In a family not everyone is a Father.
In a family not everyone is a Mother.
Everyone is better than someone at doing a task, than others are.
Men and women are different and they are designed to be different, thanks be to the creator, thedesign is great, and it works fine.
Equality is like global warming, we don’t look at where we have been before we we decide where we want to go, kind of like leaping off a cliff without looking down first, to see where we will end up.
      Education does not equal wisdom.
The wisdom to fool others is shortly lived, speaking in a relitive way.

      • Handyman

There is no sutch thing as equality!

    • NamNavyVet

“the women’s lib movement was created to convince women that working outside the home was more desirable than raising a family” I firmly believe this too. Women didn’t start it, our greedy govenment did it for more revenue. That started the Day Care industry. See how they create or save jobs? My Mom worked leaving me home to get in trouble. My Dad worked the grave shift. I liked it much more when she was home when I was in school.

      • DaveH

I’m inclined to believe that kids, who have a stay-at-home mom (or dad) for the first five years, are better adjusted. But it entirely depends on the family atmosphere. If the family is extremely poor and constantly arguing over the financial aspects, obviously the kid isn’t going to fare well.
        I found this:

DaveH–I will say this–At this point in time, if I were young and my kids were young, I do not think I would go to work. There is a huge difference between today and the early 60s when my kids were young. Life was simple in the late 50s and early 60s. We lived in a small town. Nowadays it is not a safe nor a good environment for raising kids.

      • JeffH

DaveH, I tend to agree with you. My parents divorced when I was about 21…I moved out of the house at 19…I found out later, and came to the conclusion after their divorce, that they pretty much hated each other but were able to keep it from us 4 boys. It all made sense when I looked back at their lack of closeness when I was growing up…it became another lesson in life for me.

Sorry Dave but women have always worked in the house, on the farm the ranch with out pay for their duties when they went into the work force during the war they deserved to be paid for what they were doing. It is the fear of women that is what controls the wage differences between male and female employees. Far to many still think that a woman’s place is in the home, preferably barefooted and pregnant, to be there to serve the mans desires and needs.
