My son cannot find work of any kind that he can afford, but his unemployment/extension pays him $250 week MORE than he could make by taking a lesser job and driving daily to work it. Should he milk the system another 6 months or let his family go hungry? Pride of working a job, or eat regularly? tough decision. At least they have no house or car payments. At least he listened to me. I’m proud of you son.

As a nation we MUST limit all of congress and ALL the POTUS to one 4 year term, with no retirement benefits, period. That will eliminate all this re-election posturing. It will also eliminate most of the election candidates, ’cause who’d want to run?

Well, I’m not sure about term limits, but I do think maybe a big part of the problem is the entrenched 30-year employees who make up the federal bureacracy. These are the guys that actually write the rules to all legislation which we then have to live with. We don’t get to vote on them, we can’t fire them and they are the ones that are pursuing an adgenda; one department at a time. Maybe with the transfer of directorships we could also demand new hirelings department-wide. In the resulting confusion and transition nothing would get done. In my feeble mind that might be the best thing that could happen!

That would be a difficult change to incorporate, Alix. First, you would have to amend Article I, Sections 1 and 3 of the Constitution to change the Representative’s term from two years to four years and the Senator’s term from six years to four years. You could possibly incorporate the one term limit into that change. But how would you get Congress to pass the bill in the first place? The only alternative is to get 2/3 of the states to call for a Constitutional Convention for the purpose of proposing such an amendment.

You might have a better chance of amending Amendment XXII, Section 1 along these lines:

“No person shall be elected to the office of President or Senator for more than two CONSECUTIVE terms, nor to the office of Representative for more than four consecutive terms. . .”

That would get the backing of the Executive branch since it effectively removes the “lame duck” stigma from the second term POTUS. That is the one drawback of Amendment XXII in my view: even a good President has difficulty getting anything done in his second term.

I don’t know how old you are but I’ve been voting since John f. Kennedy, in all that time one thing I’ve learned is, not one single person that is elected to office does,or knows how to do the job they were elected to do! This is true of local,stste, and national offices.
Once they are elected they make sure they have enough “staff” to do their work, and they spend their time campaigning and raising money for the next election. A good example of this was when former speaker Pelosi paid an outside organisation to write the health reform bill.
When asked what was in the bill she made the honest statement “we will have to pass it to see what’s in it.”
Really Patrick poloticians do not know how to do any real world job, and that especially includes the Harvard educated lawers.

Why was President Barack Obama in such a hurry to get his socialized medicine bill passed? Because he and his cunning circle realize some basic truths:

The American people in their unimaginable kindness and trust voted for a pig in a poke in 2008. (Pig in a poke means: an offering or deal that is foolishly accepted without being examined first. A poke means sack.)

They wanted so much to believe Barack Obama was somehow better and different from other ultra-leftists that they simply took him on faith.

They ignored his anti-white writings in his books.

They ignored his quiet acceptance of hysterical anti-American diatribes by his minister, Jeremiah Wright.

They ignored his refusal to explain years at a time of his life as a student.

They ignored his ultra-left record as a “community organizer,” Illinois state legislator, and Senator.

The American people ignored his total zero of an academic record as a student and teacher, his complete lack of scholarship when he was being touted as a scholar.

Now, the American people are starting to wake up to the truth. Barack Obama is a super likeable super leftist, and not a fan of this country.

The American people have already awakened to the truth that the stimulus bill — a great idea in theory — was really an immense bribe to Democrat interest groups, and in no way helped all Americans.

The American people already know that Mr. Obama’s plan to lower health costs while expanding coverage and bureaucracy is a myth, a promise of something that never was and never can be — “a bureaucracy lowering costs in a free society.” Either the costs go up or the free society goes away… an historical truth.

These are perilous times. Mrs. Hillary Clinton, our Secretary of State, has given Iran the go-ahead to have nuclear weapons, an unqualified betrayal of the nation. Now, we face a devastating loss of freedom at home in health care. It will be joined by controls on our lives to “protect us” from global warming, itself largely a fraud, if believed to be caused by man. She has also signed on to a Small Firearms Treaty at the U.N. This is a back door gun control move. This is approved by the Senate and a 2nd Amendment majority doesn’t exist in the Senate now. It will supersede all U.S. Law and the 2nd Amendment. All citizen possession will be eliminated through confiscation. Just Like Great Britain and Australia .

Mr. Obama knows Americans are getting wise and will stop him if he delays at all in taking away our freedoms. There is his urgency and our opportunity. Once freedom is lost, America is lost. Wake up, beloved America .

I am middle class, and I agree with your assessment that we are being eliminated. The ruling elite, which probably contains more liberals and democrats than conservatives, won’t be satisfied until we are all poor and dependent on them. I think that’s why they are destroying our economy. It is true that the debt limit has been raised many times, and it should never have been. The difference now is that we can no longer find enough people to lend us money. The Chinese see us devaluing the dollar, and they realize that we are a poor investment. If we continue to raise the debt limit, the only way we’ll be able to meet our obligations is to print more (worthless) money. Then those in charge will have reduced us to poverty, and most Americans will be too stupid to realize what happened. They’ll blame everyone, including the pork-barrel politicians, but they will fail to realize that they’ve been voting for the politicians who give them the most pork. Everyone is blaming everyone else for the problem and failing to see their role in it.
