Congress Wants Automatic Wage Deductions To Pay Down The Debt

Congress Wants Automatic Wage Deductions To Pay Down The Debt

Folks… you just can’t make this stuff up.

On July 6, at least a dozen busybody Congressmen sponsored the introduction of H.R. 2411, the Reduce America’s Debt Now Act of 2011. They always come up with fantastic names for these pieces of legislation… and rest assured, the better/more patriotic the name, the more ominous the bill. This one follows the pattern.

H.R. 2411 states that every worker in America should be able to voluntarily have a portion of his or her wages automatically withheld and sent directly to the Treasury Department for the purposes of paying down the Federal debt.

“Every employer making payment of wages shall deduct and withhold upon such wages any amounts so elected, and shall pay such amounts over to the Secretary of the Treasury…”

That’s right. Uncle Sam is so broke that he wants to give all the good little Americans out there the opportunity to contribute an even greater portion of their paychecks to finance government largess.

Desperate? Hmmm… Don’t worry, it gets better.

Obviously, if an employee feels so compelled and should elect to have a portion of his or her paycheck withheld, the onus of responsibility is now on the employer to make it happen. The employer has to do all the paperwork, withhold the money, send the payment to the Treasury, maintain the account records and probably submit to all kinds of new filing requirements.

You can imagine that, if passed, the bill will result in a host of new Internal Revenue Service regulations, complete with a battery of penalties for employers who don’t fill out the paperwork properly or submit filings on time or who make some administrative mistake.

Think about it: If a small business owner has one single employee who is dumb enough to think it’s his patriotic duty to pay down the debt and decides to contribute $1 per month, that owner will have the responsibility for all kinds of new forms and filings, plus submit to new “debt reduction audits.”

But don’t worry, it gets even better.

So let’s say there are millions of sheep out there who elect to donate a portion of their toil and sweat so that the Chinese and big financial institutions don’t have to worry about an American default. How does Congress plan on rewarding its most patriotic citizens? By sticking it to them on their taxes, of course.

H.R. 2411 stipulates that any contribution made to the Treasury in order to pay down the Federal debt is not tax deductible.

“The (Treasury) Secretary shall include. . .  a reasonably conspicuous statement that any amounts deducted and withheld from wages. . .  are not deductible as charitable contributions for Federal income tax purposes.”

Imagine this scenario: You make $100,000 per year. In a fit of complete insanity, you decide that you want to withhold your entire annual salary to pay down the debt. Hey, you can always move in with Mom for the next year, right?

Well, guess what? Uncle Sam will gladly take your money… and then still expect you to pay taxes on the $100,000 you earned, so you would have to come out of pocket with an additional $40,000 or so.

Don’t worry, though. The Social Security and Medicare wages are reduced by the amount that you withhold, making you liable for only State and Federal taxes. Seems like a good deal, eh, comrades?

There are so many things utterly wrong with his piece of legislation, it’s hard to know where to begin other than by saying that such intellectual and philosophical perversion is only capable of springing from unprincipled sociopaths whose sole capability is the destruction of value.

There’s a great quote from Atlas Shrugged that comes to mind which sums this all up:

(W)hen you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing; when you see that money is flowing to those who deal not in goods, but in favors; when you see that men get rich more easily by graft than by work, and your laws no longer protect you against them, but protect them against you. . . you may know that your society is doomed.

According to legend, a frog, when put into a pot of water and slowly brought to a boil, doesn’t realize it’s in danger until it’s too late. I think the boiling frog just got a little hotter. Have you hit your breaking point yet?

If you have, I urge you to watch this free, 3-minute video. It can help you to survive and thrive in the age of turmoil.

    • Gary in Oh

Speaking of flags, the ones with the gold fringe are not our flag. They are executive military flags that are flown to show everyone in the room that the military rules are in effect in this room. If you don’t believe me look it up your lazy self. And if you cant find it in the U.S.Army regulations you haven’t found the right answer. I am sure if you look on this liars box you can find that dog poo is good on your salad. You might also notice when you go to court the gold fringe flag is flown there, no wonder we can’t win in that room. We don’t even know the rules of the game in that room. THE ILLUSION SHAVE TO STOP. The previous presidents have held their speeches in front of the gold fringe flag but not this commie puppet.

TROLL ALERT!!!! Go back to the huffNpuff TROLL ALERT!!!!

    • toto

You can pick your own; you sound too stupid … just like the rest of you right-wing clowns. Your gop party destroyed this country, and you scoundrels will get what is coming.

  • varmit

This isn’t any worse than Obama wanting to tax everyone for the people on welfare. He can’t allow any spending cuts to his social programs in a campaign cycle. How would he get the poor and illegals to vote for him?

    • OB1

Non citizens should NOT be allowed to vote period. In any state as well.
The reason they are not being deported is because some are paying taxes.
Are non-citizens of Mexico living in Mexico allowed to vote? I will have to look that up because I do not know. Used to be a US citizen could not permanently own land or real estate in Mexico. Is that still true? Lots of real estate is owned by non-US citizens in the US. Actually, most of the home sales in Northern Washington and British Columbia is being bought by Chinese. Harry Reid arranged a large solar generating plant for the Chinese in Nevada (before the results of the election, of course…. Does anyone know the answer to this or I will look it up. Should a foreign national who owns real estate or pays taxes be allowed to vote? Are US citizens under the same guide lines allowed to vote in foreign countries?

  • Frank Leake

This can’t be a serious proposal, they’re playing with us, showing us their sense of humor – I hope. There isn’t enough cash-money in the universe to satisfy the ravenous Congressional appetite for mazuma. After all, they have to buy the votes they need to win their next election and remain in office as your representatives. They’ve proven themselves SO worthy of that job – ho, ho, ho. I really wonder if there are enough lunatics out there that believe them when they say that the funds would be used to pay down the debt? Lies, lies and more lies – this from Washington, DC named after George Washington who never told a lie. The place is a disgrace to his name; it should be renamed “Pinocchio City.”

    • Gary in Oh

Just so you know D.C. is foreign to the U.S.A. and americans should have to have a passport to enter or exit there. The rules they make inside D.C. are only for people that are under U.S. control. We The People are not supposed to be under their control, they are foreign to this country, We are not, unless you check the box on the paperwork you fill out from them(IRS forms, Social Security, drivers licence, passport, etc. See you ASSUMED you were a U.S. citizen and therefore volunteered to be under their control and accept what ever they rule they make outside their grasp ( which used to be just D.C. and federal lands).

The GOP is beholden to the Wealthy/Corporate/Wall Street types; their policies screwed the little people, and now they clearly wanted to finish you all off. Little Republicans, you had been taken to the cleaners and you’ve been supporting them who really wanted to finish you dupes off. I say, Wise Up and Go After Them!

    • NJNurse

And woodpecter, the dems are socialists and beholding to the unions and welfare and giving our hard earned money away to every stupid lobbist and country they can find. You see, calling people names doesn’t really work does it? You are sounding like a liberal, cut it out. Time to vote out all of them and start again.

      • woodpecker

I’m neither a liberal nor conservative; I’m an independent and not beholden to anyone.

    • OB1

Woodpecker, you are mistaken. Cinton Repealed Glass Stegal and the regulation of banks. Big Corporations and Wall Streeet supported Obama. Goldman Sachs, GE (CEO Immelt is working for Obama in the White House!), George Soros, Hollywood Mega Millionaires, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, need I go on? It’s a matter of public record you silly person! Republicans are owned by big corporations? Really? Sould I also add every major union in the U.S., as well as the entire MSM media empires in this country? Hearst, McClatchy, Guinette, CBS, NBC, Time-Warner…
Please learn to read before you make ignorant comments that cannot be supported by publicly available records. Please remember this next time you try to use class warfare against We The People. We know who supports both parties, we read many news sources and public records AND WE VOTE! Signed, another Independent.

      • woodpecker

I don’t condone Clinton for the deregulation at all; in fact he’s the democrat who really let that Wall Street fox, Robert Rubin, to undo that important financial law. This is an example that certain democrats adopting the destructive GOP policies.

      • woodpecker

look….Obama will be judged on the next election! You sounded as though wholeheartedly supported Obama, shame on you! If anything he’s been following the last Bush Jr.’s policies. The point is what have stated is correct pertaining to the republicans who sponsored this bill. You seem a little light in the head; read my statement one or more times, it might just enlighten you.

      • bob wire

Since most of you live and breath Fox News and been convinced to see the current administration in the most unflattering light while Fox News owner and Chief Cook and Bottle Washer is currently facing charges of the most unflattering of crimes, almost Goolish in nature, the exploitation of 9-11 victims, violation of privacy, traffic in extorted information. Your opinions, I happy to say are your own. After some 10 years of trafficking in misinformation, gains of truth in bucket of manure. I feel you are about to miss a few meals.

      • woodpecker

I don’t watch Fox news, and I don’t just believe what people said automatically. Obama had great opportunities to do the right things from the get-go, if he just followed his campaign promises. There should have been investigations on the Bush Jr. Admin(War Crimanality and many others) and Wall Street/Finacial sector, but he did nothing of the sort; plus he truly continued many of the Bush Jr’s policies(continuing wars and bailing out and covering up of the criminal Wall Street banksters and their associates). This is certainly my opinion based on the facts/reasons mentioned. Actually, I thought Obama would bring really change and clean things up after all those clueless, sordid, and criminal 8 years of Bush Jr and his gang — But it did not turn out to be! And now I tend to think Obama is a weak knuclehead!

    • Dusterdog

Woodpeckerhead. You are stupid man.Obami didnt give you any of that money he stolw from the working man he gave it all to the big unions, bankers & wall street. What you don’t get is they both are for the big guy.

  • Mari

Hey folks – a little reality check here – this bill does have some merit – it’s not a bad idea except it should not be another task burden of the employer – simply have a place on our income tax return where the taxpayer can opt in – like what is currently done for political parties. This is a voluntary option – we have the choice to put whatever amount we want or not at all.

As for the debt crisis – since our government is BY the people – it’s OUR government – OUR mess. Granted, the people WE ELECTED are not doing OUR bidding – let’s fire them. We need to get rid of the mind set that this is a problem that we leave to the government to solve – WE are the government – WE all need to solve it. WE have made bad decisions with who WE put in office – they are not doing what WE WANT – our power is in voting – Obamacare is a prime example – the MAJORITY of us did not want this bill – WE told our representatives NOT to vote for it, but they did it anyway – they disobeyed us – fire them.

If in our own families – little Johnnie breaks the neighbor’s window -we warned him not to do it, but he disobeyed. We punish little Johnny, but the family suffers, because the $100.00 has to come from somewhere – so we have to cut something in our budget to cover that expense. OUR government is the same thing. WE put these people in office – the only way to repair the damage and begin to set things right is to fire the ones NOT doing our bidding. This is OUR debt a result of OUR decisions – therefore we all should do what we can to repay – so WE have a place on our tax return that gives us the option to pay or not to pay and additional amount of OUR CHOICE to help repay this dept.

WE the people need to remember what JFK said – Ask not what YOUR country can do for you, but what YOU can do for your country – this is OUR country – we can vote – we can fire those not doing our bidding and like it or not – this is OUR debt. We need to use OUR power – vote for those who will do what we want them to do – if they don’t – vote them out. Remind them who they work for.

    • Bob Peters

I agree totally with what has been said by you and many others on this web site. I truly think that we should just get rid of the Democrats and Republicians and get people in there that Love this country and wnat it back to what it was twenty years ago or when we were still a strong nation. Start with the taking oy money aka taxes from B.H.O and all his cohorts down and then the people who are living off the working class’ and cut back on the money to CEO’s and the other countries that hate us. I Love this Country but Hate the Government.

    • http://Cox/centralKansas Wayne H.

Mari, I’ve said this before on some other site like this in response to an article along the same lines. In the reader feedback section a person asked almost the same question you have.

It’s pretty darn hard to vote for somebody that has a back bone or the guts to stand up and do what’s right when all that are running for office are a bunch of panty waist butt kissers that don’t want to rock the boat.

      • Gary in Oh

Run your self if you don’t like the other guy. GOOOH is the way for us to organize and take the house back. That would be most of the politicians replaced in one visit to the voting booth. Get real People in the offices all at once and the B.S. in this country will stop.

    • mark

Yes, but the American people received most of the benefits of all this spending and in fact insist upon it. This is one of the huge hypocrisies of the American people – not the politicians – in this debate. When poll after poll asks the American people should the government institute significant cuts in the federal budget large majorities always say YES. But when the same American people are asked do they support significant cuts in SPECIFIC PROGRAMS – Social Security, Medicare, Defense, Homeland Security, Education, Veterans Pensions and Benefits, Transportation Infrastructure, Crime Prevention, the War on Drugs, Stopping Illegal Aliens, large majorities always say NO! in poll after poll. Are American politicians hypocrites YES without doubt but they represent a hypocritical American people. As humorist Will Rogers famously said in the 1930s when he returned from a visit to Washington: “Are the majority of Congressmen and politicians in Washington scalawags, tax cheats, liars, skirt chasers, spendthrifts, adulterers, and crooks?” Rogers answered: “Yes, and they represent a good cross section of the electorate.” Under a democracy you get the politicians you deserve. Americans talk out of both sides of their mouth on the budget, and NATURALLY so do the politicians who represent them and are elected by them. We have met the enemy and he is US!

  • bob wire

Considering the IRS is standing me on my ear at the moment as I struggle to hold my little empire together and the wheels on my wagon , such great “news” is received poorly by me this morning.

Maybe I’ll feel better about it when I get these dogs off of my back.

Pointed quote from Aynn Rand, she had a knack for pointing out the absurd being accepted with common complacency.

  • AUDREY

To all the SENATORS and MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:

IT IS TIME FOR ALL OF YOU TO GET BACK TO BASICS; AND FOLLOW THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.

ESPECIALLY THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTTIVES; YOU WERE ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE TO REPRESENT WHAT THE PEOPLE OF YOUR DISTRICT’S WANT ….. WHICH IS NOT YOUR OWN AGENDA AND EGOS.

It is about time that you did your jobs which you were originally sent to Washington to do.

Between 60% and 75% + of UNITED STATES CITIZENS want to see BIG CHANGE in Washington!!!!!!!!!!

All of you SENATORS AND MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE took an oath of office to uphold the constitution of the United States when you took office…..what happened to that promise???????????????

We the people of the United States are TIRED OF BEING SOLD DOWN THE RIVER AND PUT UNDER THE BUS BY THE SOCIALISTS IN WASHINGTON WHO ARE HELL BENT ON RUNNING THIS GREAT COUNTRY DOWN THE TUBES.

We the people of the United States are tired of the SPENDING, WELFARE BENEFITS; THE BAIL-OUTS; THE STIMULAS PACKAGES; THE FOREIGN AID; THE BENEFITS FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS; AND ANYTHING SIMILAR THAT YOU SOCIALISTS DREAM UP,

IT IS TIME….for Washington to give up; the EGOS AND THE SPECIAL INTERESTS

IT IS TIME…. For Washington to PUT AND END TO ALL THE CORRUPTION AND PERSONAL GREED

IT IS TIME ….To send all illegal aliens back home and stop the free ride; NO FREE EDUCATION; NO MEDICAL; N0 FOOD STAMPS; AND anything else anyone dreams up who is not a legal citizen of the UNITED STATES.

IT IS TIME…..To cut Washington’s pay!!!!!!

IT IS TIME…. For Washington to start cutting the PORK and special interest projects

IT IS TIME….to cut all SOCIALIST PRO WELFARE PROGRAMS

IT IS TIME….for Washington to start cutting the perks and benefits and start contributing to Medicare and social security

IT IS TIME ….for TERM LIMITS in Washington….one six year term …then go back where you came from WITH NO LIFETIME HEALTH CARE AND NO LIFETIME RETIREMENT. Working for the federal government should be a privilege NOT AN ENTITLEMENT

IT IS TIME…for Washington to vote for E-VERIFY

IT IS TIME….for Washington to STOP pandering to illegal aliens….SEND THEM HOME NOW AND CLOSE THE BORDER!!!!!!

SINCE nothing is “OFF LIMITS” IN Washington ….why are the salaries of congress and the WHITE HOUSE not cut?????

When are we going to stop paying farmers NOT TO GROW FOOD especially when corn is now being used as an alternative fuel which could lead to a food shortage??????????????

If Washington collected over 2 trillion dollars of tax revenue in 2010.….why do we still have budget problems??????????????? Could it be; you are spending TOO MUCH MONEY??

Why is the average net worth of congress @ 30 MILLION PLUS; if this is true lets start with congress salaries!!!!!!!!!!!

TIME IS RUNNING OUT!!!!!!…..IT IS TIME FOR EVERYONE TO CONTACT THEIR SENATORS AND HOUSE OF REPRESENATIVES AND LET THEM ALL KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. IF MORE PEOPLE CONTACTED THEM …. MAYBE THEY WILL GET THE MESSAGE!!!!!

    • Lewis/Virginia

RIGHT ON my Friend! RIGHT ON!

    • NJNurse

You are so right and all this is common sense but DC has none of this. The only way to stop all you wrote is to vote all of them out and start over. Not to easy because as you said, the more money they get the more power they get and they are getting way to much money.

    • Gary in Oh

The GOOOH Group want to take back the house this election,Get Out Of Our House is about putting working class People back into the government so it can be made fair again. Please if you give a rats ass about our country look into this group, they are People like you and I who are trying to fix the problems this country has. HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION.

    • mark

Everything you listed would only cut a tiny percentage of our budget deficit. Welfare for the poor is about 2% of the budget and foreign aid is only 1% of the budget. The real big money is in Social Security, Medicare, and Defense. In addition to cuts in all three of these we are going to have to raise taxes on our wealthiest citizens, not this year or next year but in 2113 when the economy is stronger. There is really no other way to make significant cuts. But you don’t mention any of this in your very emotional, over the top comments.

      • ValDM

That’s because you don’t have it right either. The biggest expenditure the feds make is in wages for 2.1 million fed “workers”. You don’t seem to mention, or probably ever considered, that the alphabet soup agencies need to GO. You sound like a young child that wants to throw grandma under the bus, even after she paid MORE in to SS than she will EVER receive. One thing you do have right, though, is that military spending is too much. We need to shut down ALL foreign bases, stop ALL wars & bring our troops home to guard our borders. And if you were 1/2 as smart as you think you are you would start doing a bit of research about ‘real’ gov’t. spending, instead of repeating what your handlers are whispering in your ear.

      • OB1

That is a fact. Beside salaries, there is also the dollar figure of each federal department to add in as well. I suppose he doesn’t look up publicly disclosed actual numbers on the internet. Let’s add to that figure federal pension and insurance costs. While were doing this, you might like to look at these same figures for your own state and local governments as well. Perhaps we could look at the numbers of what the multitude a government empsed regulations have been put upon individuals and businesses, including small and large corporations, and we might have a better idea of where to cut, reduce, cap or completely eliminate waste. Social security was paid for by the individuals who put it in with no choice in the matter. Not paying it would be embezzlement. Reducing excess and unnecessary waste is our responsibility. All of us are going to have to get more involved in the local level. And PLEASE check your assemblyman’s voting record before you vote! And as a side note, the MSM does NOT cover all the news; sometimes they keep running “distractions” to keep you from finding out on your own what the heck is going on! Look at the Casey Anthony trial! They are all guilty of this! Frightened horrified people feels helpless and are easier to control, i.e., the throwing grandma in a wheelchair of a cliff by the demos! There’s money for Social Security and Disability payments for months to come if the governments defaults. If you haven’t figured it out yet, they lie. The tea Party Movement was essential started by Ron Paul. He has the most consistent voting record in congress. Google it! My prediction is that more democrats, independents, and Republicans will continue to support the Tea Party. More big businesses are getting involved as well because we all see a threat to the Constitution and our American way of life. Look for yourself and see how many democrats are opposed to raising the debt ceiling. Even they see the writing on the wall and know they run the risk of not being re-elected. You will see more democrats and republicans register as Independents. Tell your friends to re-register too! Blow all their minds guessing what ideology you adhere to. Then hold both parties representatives to the fire! That way, you can have your God given rights, plus those guaranteed to you by the Declaration of Independance, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution of the United
States of America. This will work because if you live in area that for generations has been controlled by non-constutional Democrats or Republicans who have stayed in power for too long by back room deals and doing big business favors for lobyists, you can really complain, tell others and expose them because they won’t know what “Party” you vote for or are registered to! Support local grass root efforts to expose them! Same for any local, state or federal corruption. Look at the pressure the Tea Party new house members have put on politics as usual in just 7 months! The old guard in the GOP are scared to death. Business as usual is over and both Republicans and Democrats KNOW this. That is why Obama and his administration are doing unconstitutional and illegal things; they’re scared. That is why old guard Republicans are having to modify and comply with the new members of Tea Party supported House and Senate members. Even Sarah Palin supported a Democratic candidate and so did Tea Party support groups. Hold both parties’ feet to the fire. Check their voting record. Register as an Independent until you run for an office. Work inside both parties until WE represent the People! Of course, both parties will become very different from what they are today, but would that be a positive or a negative for this great country?!

  • Matt

Both parties have been playing a game of “hot potato”(head-games)with the voter and non voters of this country. You would have thought that everyone would caught on to this by now given that our present president ran on “change” only to continue our downward spiral.
Neither one of these parties(Democrat or Republican)give a dam what is good for the long term survival of this country. Do you think if they did that we would be in this mess?
By the way the voters and non-voters of this country are equally to blame for this mess by reelecting the same political hacks back into office be it Republican or Democrat.

    • Dusterdog

Matt I only wish every other American was as smart as you.You brother tell it exactly as it is.God Bless

    • Al Sieber

I agree Matt it makes no difference which party is in, it’s all a distraction so they can pick our pockets, then our bones. I wonder how much longer we’re gonna take this crap and let them keep pushing us around.

      • Dusterdog

Al it will all stop when people’s back bone is meeting their belly button and they can no longer watch their sports & porno for lack of money to buy them.

      • Al Sieber

Right dog, couldn’t have said it better. or when there’s no food.

  • Lewis/Virginia

The MORE They (they being the Government)GET,The more they want! The more they get the more they spend,THE MORE THEY SPEND and this is the kicker,THE MORE POWER THEY HAVE OVER WE the PEOPLE!
I M NO MANS SLAVE I LIVE FREE!

    • Dusterdog

Lewis in Virginia You had better ponder on that I live free for awhile.I think if you would do that maby you would reconsider that statement. As long as we keep electing Democrats & Republicans we will never be FREE

  • skippy

How about Mr. Oblabber keep his and family’s ass at HOME and quit spending the taxpayer money to TRIP AROUND ALL OVER HELL’S HALF ACRE? HUH???!!! And how about all the ‘servants of the PEOPLE’ take a 50% pay CUT??!! Servants my ass…we are the slaves now guys…..

    • Al Sieber

It kinda looks that way, skippy, for now.

  • Big Daddy

If I had an employee dumb enough to want to do this I would suggest that he leave. In fact I think I wold offer him a bonus to not do this thus avoiding the paperwork for me.
They have finally gone over the edge. This is just another example of the stupidity of the so called leaders of this nation.
    Please resign, all of you.

    • Dusterdog

Big Daddy the best thing you can do for America is if you employ people go through the parking lot see who has Obamie stickers on their car and those you find a reason to fire

  • Rooster

The sheeple who think socialism will save us all are the ones that keep this insanity rolling along. I think the framers had the right idea: the only ones who vote are those who own land or a business. I would add those who are gainfully employed in the public sector (not government jobs). That removes those who have no acountability.

But seriously, it’s a mathematical certainty that if the government took 100% of the wages of all wage earners, it would not be enough to make up for the obscene spending/debt accumulated by this assministration. 100% of your paycheck sent to the feds would not pay the interest on the debt. (So, go ahead and tax the rich at 100%. Unemployment will be 50% instead of 16.2% and we’ll still be in the same mess, only much worse.)

Yet, almost half of America (most of whom are on welfare) thinks this a-hole and his Socialist Democrats (and a gaggle of RINOs) are doing a good job!

    • Push comes to shove

You are correct on voting, but I think you should only be able to vote if you have a dog in the fight (Pay taxes), meaning if your effective tax rate is less than 5% of your income you should not get to vote because most likely you either take government cheese or want laws to give you more government cheese and that would be 50% of the population.

I heard the stories here in Dallas where a single mother needs to have at least four, perferably five, children so the government assistance she recieves will allow her to live in a house and have a cadillac (or some nice car).

THis is the kind of stuff social programs generate, the lazy who want something for nothing.

      • Robert A Hirschmann

Hey! What about us retired folks living (?) on social insecurity? We paid our taxes all our lives and now that we are eking out a living on social insecurity we don’t make enough to pay taxes. Are we to be banned from voting now?

      • DaveH

If you are getting social insecurity, I’m betting you were probably gainfully employed, yes? You would be at the front of the line to vote. (I say “probably” because Dimmer-craps want to give social security to illegals who never paid into the system.)

  • tim

Make sure you send that money in so the obama’s can take more vacations and throw more parties at the white house. You can bet federal employees are exempt from this. Just like thier exempt from hard times like the rest of us. They still got thier raises and benefit hikes the last 3-4 years! No wage freezes theree, just more bonuses also!

  • Susan

After paying my income tax I would consider making a donation to the National Debt but I don’t trust the politicians in charge of the donations to put it in the account to pay off the DEBT. They give millions of dollars to countries that hate our guts so how about we remove that aid and pay it towards the DEBT first. Any company that decides to locate out of the U.S. needs to be taxed at a higher rate to have their imported products brought back in here to sell to the U.S.consumer. There are so many EASY solutions to paying the DEBT down that this piece of extortion written up at least has Americans realizing that the SPENDING MUST STOP FIRST! We can’t continue to spend more than the GDP.

The best answer is, Rope and Trees and Tar and Feathers!

    • Gary in Oh

And I thought TREASON had just ropes and trees! silly me. Or have we gone soft on that punishment also. If I got caught impersonating the President I would be HUNG. O has been for more than 2 years now and is still reading his masters speeches from the teleprompters. THE UNITED STATES is a corporation, and that is who O is the C.E.O.of. The united States of America is our great country we are so proud to live on/in. These are 2 completely different things and they have made us think they are one in the same. O’s title should be C.E.O. not president, but that change would probably make more of us open our eyes, so they use the word that keeps with the illusion most believe. Its time to pop yer head out and see the truth.

Let me guess… There all Democraps, Right!! They are to stupid to realize that anyone can pay higher taxes if they want to right now to the government, yes even without legislation (for the drones). That’s like creating legislation that says you can give to your church that you’ve been giving to all these years if you want to. DUH!!! or should I use the O’s favorite Uh, Uh, Uh. Has the world gone nuts? maybe the Russians are flying over the capital fogging it with Stupid fog that makes Peelosies out of regular people…..

Get the 20 million illegal aliens out of our country that are takeing our jobs put tax paying Americans in those jobs .Then cancell Nafta & Cafta that Newt Gengrich & Bill Clinton created there by bringing our jobs home then crises solved.Whats so hard about figuering this out DUAH

    • DaveH

      Duster,
I don’t condone illegal entry into this country, but neither the illegals or NAFTA (which isn’t really Free Trade, by the way) are causing our major problems. Our Government is sucking the life out of our economy. They spend 40% of our Gross Domestic Product. And then they use a lot of that money to strangle our economy with regulations, most of which favor Big Businesses over their smaller competitors. And then there are the direct subsidies to their favored Crony Capitalists, and the indirect subsidies to their favored Crony Capitalists.
If we got our Government out of the Marketplace, and out of our personal choices, and out of other countries’ political choices, our economy would boom.

Isn’t the concept of patronage just great. The dems have taken it to such extraordinary levels.

  • JimH

The tax that Bush senior signed it to law, that haunted him when he tried to get re-elected(read my lips), was supposed to be used to lower the national debt.
    See how far that got.
Like DaveH said, once they get hold of it who really knows where it will go?

  • Stan Smith

Too bad! The Politicians should be required to be drug tested! They must be high if they want me to contribute my hard earned money for their F-ups! This was a republican sponsored bill that took on joke stadus. The sponsors are (were) 12 idiots and as expected it has not been let known that they are republicans.

Regarding these 12 sponsers for this bill, “it is far better to let people think you are stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt”

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

It did seem to say it was voluntary. Thats how you can tell it wasnt a democratically sponsored bill. They would have sought to make it a law that they just take the money from the working people, then they would have figure out a way to funnel it to the UAW, the bums that dont work, the illegal aliens, and the rest of their voter base. Yep. Thats the way they would have worked it. Although I agree this is laughable, at least they just floated an idea to try to help, as rediculous as it is, they didnt insist on raising taxes to get more like their opponents do. Im just saying…………

      • DanB

Social security was optional at its inception. What happened between then and now? So I look at this bill with disgust. Anyone with half a brain would realize two things. One, it is already possible to give your money to government so this is unnecessary. Two, anything voluntary now can be made mandatory in the near future.

      • Carlucci

This is how the income tax withholding got started back in the thirties or forties when FDR was prez. That was only supposed to be temporary to help finance WWII. Well, we all know what “temporary” means to the feds.

If this new nonsense is really “voluntary” (and I have my doubts), why not just do something simple that makes common sense, like put a website up and Fedzilla can ask for donations from dummies who are stupid enough to donate.

What I can’t understand is how to pay a “debt” off with phantom fiat currency that has little to no value. Wasn’t there an article by Bob Livingston on this site a few months ago that talked about phantom debt that can never be repaid with fiat currency?

      • jibbs

Ya, you can volunteer to pay taxes or volunteer to go to jail. Those are your only options. I watched a video With Reed telling the reporter that they are voluntary. I guess that was how voluntary the draft was during Vietnam.

      • patrick H.T. paine

        “To conquer, first divide!”

It is really sad that the TRUTH needs to be repeated again and again.

Filing a w-4 with your employer is VOLUNTARY and always has been and
continues to BE. ( continued ignorance by employers and employees is
        no excuse. )

26 USC 3402 is the statute regarding with holding, and it is long,
intimidating and essentially total B.S., since what is REQUIRED
by LAW, is contained in the “implimenting regulation”.

That is 26 CFR 31.3402 (p) which is titled Voluntary Withholding Agreements and begins: An employer and employee may enter into an agreement to withhold.

Mandatory language would use the word “shall”, although even THIS is
subject to question because of a Supreme Court Decision which I will
paraphrase……when the word shall is used and the implications are
that a question of constitutionality exists: shall means MAY! I kid you not. ( ignorance of

the LAW is no excuse and can be PAINFUL for those who fail to act.) I personally find it completely amazing that
for all the pundits, tea partier’s and pretender’s to “constitutional
understanding” including the Rand boys….haven’t mentioned this.

This regulation can be found at the Cornell Law Library website by going to 26 USC 3402 and clicking on the reg link on the left. It is
four paragraphs long ( half page ).

Print it out, compose a letter to your employer “cancelling” your
Voluntary With Holding Agreement ( covered in the reg’s last paragraph) and submit it to your employer.

In this same letter, explain to your employer that in order for them to act in a manner required by the LAW, they will need to contact the
SSA directly, which is located at the Philadelphia Branch of the IRS,
where they will receive proper instructions on how to proceed and that
they may continue to with hold, until they receive an answer, although the effective date of the cancellation is still in force.
These instructions will come in writing…….directly from the SSA.

All monies withheld from the effective date of cancellation will be
returned to you, and no futher deductions will be taken from your pay
unless you are part of a pension or health plan.

Any W-2 you receive will only include your wages covered by the agreement….and in any

subsequent years, you will not receive a W-2 earnings statement, nor will you receive any tax forms from any
government entity….because the taxing entities, IRS, State/local
no longer have “jurisdiction” over you.

BTW SS benefits are based on your 40 highest quarters and if you have already met this criteria, you will be able to file for benefits at
        the age appropriate time.

Applied knowledge is POWER. Act or don’t, continue to suffer or fight back……..all the self indulgent whining here can not compare with actually winning. Good luck.

“Do not ask for whom the bell tolls………”

    • C130 Gunship

ron…..Thanks for this information. I was digging into who backed this POS bill when I read your comment. This really further enforces the argument that there is very little difference which party of ass clowns we elect to office. (Politicians), 536 commoditised temple monkeys pawing through the ruins of America in search of bribes. (The District of Corruption) works like a vending machine. You put coins in the slot, select your law, and the desired legislation slides out. In the end , the economics will overwhelm the politics. I see no hope that any adult will make any adult decision before the ‘reset’ is upon us. When the money runs out the bull$hit stops. The only solution I’m in favor of is term limits, 2 terms, one in office, and one in prison.

I am surprised that Mr Black did not realize that this was for all of the dems who say “I MAKE MORE MONEY THAN I NEED” and all the people that want to help the dead beats.
Now they all can give until their hearts is content.
Just leave my money alone and I will help who I want to help and the ones that are not just lazy and looking for a hand out.

I remember years ago when Frank Church was running for President against Jimmy Carter The National Debt was anissue. A minister friend said if every citizen of the United States would contribute $10 that would gp a long way to solve the problem.
The Debt is much larger now and more people on welfare etc. But it is something that should be considered= if your name is on the census you owe the government $10 or something like that. Sincerely Marie Eier

You do realize that a large part of what these crooks take out of your pay and my paycheck everyweek pays for Social Security, Medicare, Defense, military paychecks, Homeland Security, Education, Veterans Benefits and Pensions, Transportation Infrastructure, Crime Prevention, the War on Drugs, police and fire, etc., etc. Not all of this is bad and much of it is very necessary. I am glad my government spends money in these areas.

I see what education has done for you.
I don’t need them to provide SS, Homeland security, war on drugs, crime prevention, police.
Most Americans could invest their own money far better for the laters years on their own. For what the police do, most communitys would fare much better on their own. Homeland security just plain sucks as doe’s the TSA. As for the war on drugs, what a fuc*ing joke!

You can be president of the SHEEPLE club.

      • DaveH

All of those things, Mark, could have been done better in the private sector. And most of them are Unconstitutional for the Federal Government in the first place.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

When I look at my paycheck stub every week, I see Federal Tax withheld, Medicare, social security, state tax, local tax, health care premium, and the one of my choice, my 401K witholding. I think they get quite enough from me, thank you. And I think they get enough from the rich that people like to demonize, as they pay the lions share of taxes in this country. However there is always that group of the population, who doesnt pay taxes, and they collect off of our taxes. And the democratic politicians like to call the the “poor”. They are that way, over 90 percent of them, because they are too lazy to work, and feel why should they work when the government gives them a substantial handout to not work. Those are the ones that need to pay, not the working man. The working man pays enough, thank you very much.

      • Sha

I agree the “poor” should work and pay taxes BUT even the educated ones can not find jobs! Unemployment rates are WHAT? Let’s over-tax the companies who send the workers jobs overseas until they bring the jobs back to the USA! I’m sure national debt reduction could be fully funded taxing the companies who have left our country jobless!

      • jibbs

The free loaders can clean the trash from the highways, parks, ponds, rivers, streams, help work at county animal shelters, and much much more…………..WAKE UP!!

      • DaveH

What? Tax our companies ever more? And then wonder why they leave the US? Companies don’t pay taxes, people do. Let’s just be honest about it and tax each adult the same. If everybody has equal skin in the game, you can bet that the citizens would vote for a lot less Government. Which is exactly why the Leaders and other Big Government lovers would fight such a thing with every ounce of energy they have.
In fact the original Constitution specified that the Federal Government would be supported by each state paying taxes based on the population of each state. So, if for example, State A had half the population of State B, State A would pay half the taxes to the Federal Government that State B would:
From The Constitution, Article I, Section 2:
“Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.”
Those limits were thwarted and altered by the persistent Hamiltonians over the following decades which alterations eventually led to the Civil War. And then in 1913 the Sixteenth Amendment took all pretenses of equal taxes away and created the Income Tax to the citizens’ detriment and the Federal Government’s benefit.
Our Founders were well-grounded in experience and knowledge, but as the generations went on, as Jefferson predicted, Government gained ground and Freedom yielded.

      • TexasPatriot

Could not agree more. Sadly I see a lot of these parasites in action daily – sometimes three generations in the same household.

The top 1% of earners today have 4 times the real net wealth when adjusted for inflation than they had in 1980 ($11 trillion in 1980 vs. $41 trillion in 2010). The top 1% of earners made 9% of the national income in 1980, today they make 24% or the national income. Meanwhile the bottom 80% of earners have either just about broken even or made tiny gains in net income and wealth over the last thirty years. THE RICH DO NOT PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE. They pay a large percentage of the federal income tax in relation to their numbers but shelter and hide vast amounts of their income and wealth through loopholes, off shore accounts, and tax lawyer dodges. They stop paying taxes on Social Security and Medicare on any income above $106,000. Warren Buffet with an income of billions pays the same Social Security tax as a man who makes $106,000 a year. And most important of all, the rich avoid the HIGHEST TAX IN AMERICA, the one paid by the poor, the working class, and the lower-middle class of our nation everyday when they send their sons or daughters to die for their country in Iraq and Afghanistan. The rich send theirs to Stanford, Duke, and the Ivy League universities – and then reap profits off the war through their defense stocks and contracts. The rich reserve the privilege of dying for their country, the REAL DEATH TAX, to the poor, the working class, and the lower-middle class, the lower 40% of earners. You will NEVER find a single millionaire’s son or daughter wearing the uniform of the United States and serving in harm’s way. But go to the grass quadrangles of Yale, Harvard, Brown, and Princeton and you will find thousands of these young people with $00,000 a month credit card accounts. THEY OWN AMERICA NOT US! AND THEY WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO FOR CENTURIES SINCE THEY HAVE JUST ABOUT EVERYONE IN THIS COUNTRY BAMBOOZLED, HOODWINKED, AND SUCKERED! They even have trailer park, and blue collar citizens of our nation waving signs and protesting any raising of taxes on the rich! Can you imagine a sweeter deal? They can even get the poor dopes who work everyday in coal mines and factories to protest in favor of the rich’s massive and ever growing wealth. You could almost laugh it wasn’t so perverse and cynical.

      • ValDM

Are you paid to be a troll here???? If you want to tax the rich, start with Congress. There hasn’t been one of them that went to DC poor & didn’t get to be millionaires +. A far better thing to do is to refuse to pay Congress & have them “work” for free.

Incidentally, if you’re not a troll, stop spewing such nonsense. The rich will always be rich, unless they become stupid. The also have their own personal Congressman bought & paid for so they don’t have to pay as many taxes. Grow up, & see how it REALLY is.

      • jibbs

Sounds like your pissed off that you don’t make very much money, You should have stayed in school and educated yourself to get a better job, or start your own company. Those who pay no tax should help out and start paying something.

    • DanB

Sorry, $10 won’t cut it anymore. You actually owe over $50,000. Think $10 will even make a dent in that, wouldn’t even pay the interest owed. And for those of us who have families, that means I owe $100s of thousands as I would be responsible for my wife and four kids portions of the debt as well. $10 absolutely won’t even touch the federal debt my family would be responsible for.

      • Gary in Oh

Its the federal govts debt not yours and mine. They can quit writing checks when their account is empty just like I have too. Our representatives do not represent us, if they did there wouldn’t be rules on the books we didn’t want, debts we didn’t agree on,etc. Its time to clear house while we still have one. Look up G.O.O.O.H. Get Out Of Our House. There is a plan to organize We The People and take the House of Representatives back for the People and straighten the whole mess out this coming election, legally! If you have enough heart to help save this country you should participate.

      • sol of texas

        Gary –

The federal institutions govern and create debt through the consent of the people. Unfortunately we have consented and have not revoked that power.

It’s a problem with democracy — when majorities oppress minorities (especially large minorities like 49%).

I take your point, though. Whenever I pledge allegiance these days, I am not sure to what and to whom I make a pledge.

      • Les

We the people ended when this became a Democracy and stopped being a Republic. We have Mobocracy where our country is ruled by lynch mob mentality.

    • Flyovercindy

Sure, it sound simple – everybody can afford $10, right? I’m sorry, getting Washington off the hook will only result in more of the same reckless spending. The point is, we the taxpayers, have sent them plenty of money to do the things the Federal government is responsible for doing. Our elected officials have been negligent and irresponsible with our tax money – we should NOT bail them out!

Listen, if the administration isn’t willing to tighten its belt, reduce the size of government, curtail spending and cut out unnecessary programs, I certainly am not willing to give one red cent to help them. It citizens donate to the national debt, they will just turn around and spend it. They’re patently dishonest.

    • wandamurline

It would not matter…every American could send them $25 and they would spend it on something else instead of applying it to the debt…that is why we are in a mess…they cannot stop spending…in the real world that would be called a shopaholic and you would get psychological counseling … your credit cards would be torn up, expenses and income tabulated, a budget fixed and you would be taught how to live within your means…something that government will not learn. The government is tooooooo big and it needs to be taken apart and then put back together with less to work with…there are literally hundreds of departments that do not need to be there plus a few that they have no constitutional authority to have in the first place. Before they ask anything else from Ameicans, they need to clean up their own mess…like realocating retirement, their health care, too many helpers…defunding the UN…too many czars…and I could go on. America needs to send a team of efficiency experts to Washington and we need to tell them what we need to cut from thei massive inventory of departments…any nonessential (like when the government almost shut down that were to be furloughed) departments need to be permanently nonessential and shut down. That would be a start.

      • Gary in Oh

I agree let them do a lot of cleaning up their own mess and maybe they will quit making so much. Besides they are salary positions, so let them work like the salary People out here get worked and they won’t have any fight left in them.

    • TML

This bill, while not yet passed, is very dangerous to American citizens. The danger is in the thought that this is voluntary. It makes it seem harmless, and that all we would see on our end is a little checkbox on a W-4. It may start as voluntary, just like the income tax, which uses the same form they wish to put that little checkbox on. I’m glad there are some whistle blowers on this, but we need to contact our congressmen and women to vote down this bill. Don’t give them an inch, or they will eventually take everything.

    • jibbs

You go ahead any make a $10.oo payment for me, I already gave(taxes) It’s not my fault that they are foolish when they spend our money. What a dumb idea!!

    • USAF VET

They are already taxing money that has already been taxed. They are taking income tax out of my Social Security along with charging me $69.00 per month for Medicare which they also deduct from my Social Security. That adds up to $828 per year for medical insurance and I still have to have a medigap policy to cover what Medicare refuses to pay. If they had left Social Security alone and not put that money into the General Fund Social Security would not be in the shape it is in now. Also giving it away to people who have never put into the system is another thing that has depleted what money was in there before they started legally stealing it and replacing it with IOU’s.

  • DaveH

What is keeping people from donating to Uncle Sam right now? Why throw the struggling employers under the bus with yet another hoop to jump through?
And after that, does anybody really believe they won’t just spend that money like they did our Social Security money?
The Politicians have gone insane. Don’t worry, they didn’t contribute much to Global Warming because it was a short trip.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

I got an idea, why not leave the working people and retired people who worked all their lives alone, and make those who year after year live on social program handouts, like welfare, food stamps, WIC, government housing, and many, many other handouts, and let them pay a couple bucks back each, every week. I mean, its not their money to start with, its off the backs of those of us who work. Its time we got these people to pony up something that leads to the bottom line, isnt it?

Are they totally insane? Voluntarily pay more taxes so thery can send the money to MUSLIM countries, you know the ones like Libya that take our money in their left hand while burning our flag in the right and shouting death to the USA? OF COURSE that is where the “extra” money would go – or to finance Moochelle’s next vacation. Not one penny would go towards reducing the debt!

      • Gary in Oh

Not a penny of your taxes go to paying down the debt the federal gov owes now>Why would we think it would CHANGE. The Federal Gov never pays on the principle just on the interest. They have no plan to pay down the debt. I say since its their debt let it take them down, they need replaced anyhow! If you agree Look at G.O.O.O.H. Get out of our house is a group of people sick and tired of the way things are going now and are trying to vote out all the house of representatives this 2012 vote and get some control back to We the People and show big business all of us can’t be bought.

      • http://WeThePeople Jean

Since we no longer have Social Security – all past and present Politicians will have to forgo collecting their pensions. Let them exist on all of the corrupt graft that they accumulated during their vacations and partying while they were in office. Then have the FBI and or CIA arrest them for Tax Evasion. Then put them on work farms or ranches where they will have to more than feel like they are contributing something back to society.

      • independant thinker

I am sure the money would go to reduce the debt. The problem is when it started going down those in Washington would say look the debt is decreasing so we can borrow even more money for new programs.

      • jibbs

Sorry Gary, but I looked at GOOOH and even joined, but I see them as having almost zero traction.

      • Handyman

put obozo in jail till he pays the debt he is responsible for, I did not vote for that!

      • TexasPatriot

Why not have them work? Osamabama says we need to improve our infrastructure. There are roads, highways, bridges, etc everywhere. How about picking up trash on highways, streams, around public buildings and the like? Guess that would be cruel.

      • MSSouth

Texas P, I agree with you. I have to work hard for my pay why shouldn’t they? We can take it one step further, allow the prisons to raise their own food. It would give the innmates physical activities and lower the cost of their keep. But yeah, we are not into making those people on the teat do anything to help themselves or their country.

      • JUKEBOX

Years ago, Tucker Prison Farm in Arkansas was the only prison in the U.S. to operate at a profit. That is what we need today, instead of the criminal training facilities the liberals love so dearly.

      • DaveH

        Patriot,
They call that Slave Labor if we compel them to work for their Free money. The real Slaves of course are those whose taxes are being taken to pay for the welfare programs.

      • Handyman

You got the idea, Dave. The golvernment spends our money! The strings are used to tie us up and give criminals free time to do their crimes!

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

And just like all those on the public dole, the government makes it easy for them to make a living off of what they take from us that work. And in the same way, there are many that get out of prison, and go right back in, and they will tell you that in the joint they get 3 square meals a day, air conditioning, a bed, and cable TV, and they dont get that on the outside. So why does the system allow for this? After all, ISNT IT PRISON? My oh my have we ever gotten off track.

      • karel Eekels

One reasonable and effective way to stop all this nonsense, and to stop this class war fare, is to revamp the whole system and implement a flat 10% tax rate for all. “we the people” should stress and press for this now the country is in complete chaos and turmoil. Now is the time. The US Treasury will see more revenue coming into their direction as they have never seen before!

      • ValDM

        karen,
We’re WAY beyond the age of reason & reasonable solutions. Why would they engage in something that would be of benefit to most of US when they can just STEAL what they want. Stealing our money serves 2 purposes : they get the money anyway & they’ve done it illegally, which gives them a little thrill in their walnut-sized hearts.

      • Elevenarrows

I think it is all about control…Until they have all of us completely dependent on them, they won’t have completel control. Their agenda is to bankrupt us on purpose so they can throw out the Constitution and welcome in our global community. I just “love” the fact that while my husband and I agonize over how we will pay our taxes this October (we are small business owners), these guys lie awake trying to figure out how to get us to “voluntarily” give them more even faster. I’ve never checked for myself, but I’ve been told before that social security is actually a “voluntary” program…and the income tax was to fund the war and would never exceed 3% of your income. I say, if they even hint at taking more money…voluntary or not…whoever supports such legislation FOR WHATEVER STUPID REASON they give…should be voted out and replaced with a citizen-statesman.

      • Christin

        ValDM,

        ou are Right on!

I think those who ever spent the (14 trillion plus $$$) money should have to pay it off… Porkgressive Congress and the Communist in Chief …(past and present).

      • Dan az

So let me get this straight. If I had ten employees and they wanted to donate to the poor gubmnt one dollar each.I would have to hire some one to do the accounting for this one dollar each.which would most likely cost me 10 to fifteen dollars each for just so the people would feel that they are doing there part.So how is this helping me to keep my doors open?Call me stupid but some one needs to explain the logic to me,because I never did understand obomics 101.Now sense this is not tax deductible for the employee is it for me as cost of doing useless business?Maybe it’s just me but I think I just got reamed with out the kiss and the vaseline.I guess this is why they get the big bucks!!!!

      • Handyman

No new or old taxes, no taxation without representation, they don’t represent us (we the people) Take their (our) money away from them!

      • FAITH

I WOULD SAY THAT THE 10% TAX WOULD WORK IF EVERYONE DID IT STARTING AT THE TOP –PRESIDENT—VICE PRES, ALL THEIR STAFF, AND DOWN THE LINE THEN SENATORS, REPS, AND ALL THE REST OF THE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES SEE WHICH ONES WOULD CRY FIRST. I WOULD SAY OBUMMER WOULD CRY FIRST HE WOULD NOT DO IT BUT WANTS EVERYONE ELSE TO

      • Glenda

Karel Eejels, I am with you on a 10% tax. That would solve all our problems without any hassle.

      • guest on this planet

HOW MUCH DID OBAMA AND HIS COHORTS SEND IN TO HELP PAY DOWN THE DEBT?lets start with taking all the politicians hard stolen cash .

      • USAF VET

How about starting with BHO’s Nobel “Peace” prize. Then downsize the salaries the keep voting to raise without their employers permission. They are the only people I know of who can get a raise without asking for or deserving it. Wouldn’t it be nice if regular folks could go to their boss and say, I just gave myself a 10% raise and now you have to pay it.

      • dan a

that truely seems to be the only group in the country that is not asked to contribute. them and the folks here illeagaly

      • oldtimeyman

I have a brilliant idea. Why not make payroll deductions to pay down the federal debt, MANDATORY for Democrats and welfare recipients and voluntary for the rest of us? Also, REQUIRE that all federal employees (including Congress but excluding military personnel) give up 50% of their incomes and perks to the pay down the federal debt.

      • guest on this planet

they would only give themselves another pay raise

      • Handyman

Let us (we the people) vote for their pay rate and retirement every six months!

      • Christin

        Handyman,

Let those (Congress and Presidents past and present) who spent the money, pay off the debt…

The congress, from this day forward, should only work part-time (maybe 4 – 6 months) a year and go back to their state to do their occupation the rest of the year…

All the Congress does is pass more (bills)LAWS & REGULATIONS and spend more CASH when they are in session… SEND THEM HOME !
We’d be a better off nation.

      • Glenda

Oldtimeman, Let’s be honest and fair. The debt originated in the Bush administration and the Republicans should pay their fair share, too. When Clinton left office there was a surplus. It took no time at all for Bush to use that, plus trillions more. Due to the two wars Bush got us into, plus the economic crisis he’s more than responsible for due to lack of regulations and tax cuts and loop holes for the wealthy, President Obama has had to spend trillions to keep this Country from going under. The memory of the Republicans is very short.

      • granny mae

        Beberoni

        Very good idea !

That’s the way it used to be anyway. They were part time legislators and full time workers. They didn’t have 2 permanent homes, one is DC, and one in their home state. And they didn’t have salaries like they do now either, nor were they full time polititians, it was a sideline.

      • http://charter.net sue

        that sounds like a plan

      • Patriot

You are right on. One more thing. If congress really wants to help cut down the national debt, I have a suggestion to them and to the Prez.

Let Obama, Biden, the Senate and House all work for FREE for the next two years, donating their entire salaries to the Social Security fund.

      • bluejacket

Perhaps we should also suspend Washington’s pay raises, and instead send those would be raises to pay down the debt, and also re-pay the Social Security funds they have stolen through the years. Wow, what a concept.

      • Glenda

Beberoni, Most of these people are indigent and need every dollar they get to live on. They couldn’t pay one dollar. I, personally, know many such people.

    • Vagabond

DaveH I donated to the democrats slush fund all of my life and even after I retired. I finaly quit when I turned 74. it was called income tax. and the democrats used it then and now to buy votes. hence your amnesty drives to get more democratic voters, wellfare. more democrat voters.social security for people coming here from other countries who have never paid one dime into the system. the damned SLIMEBALLS in washington just continue to throw away every dime they can rob from the working tax payers. and you can bet your sweetass they will continue doing it,

      • sol of texas

        Vagabond –

That’s how the overthrow of the constitution was accomplished. Millions of citizens were so distracted by the various Santa Clauses’ offers of free gifts that they abandoned principles (if they ever had principles in the first place). That is sometimes referred to as “situational ethics”.

You awoke at age 74. There are plenty of people on welfare and hard working Americans that are still asleep.

It will take some serious cunning and courage to restore the constitution. The professional political class is entrenched and the population has been conditioned by the government school systems.

In 1992 Perot tried to wake people up, but the media laughed at his charts and graphs. The previous leader famously said “No new taxes” and broke his promise. Our country went on to elect a fellow nicknamed “Slick Willie” who likewise famously said “I smoked marijuana but I never inhaled” (I don’t understand what that means!). How can people expect results other than those we are now confronted with?

Brace yourself for the next 10 years. In absence of the establishment of a police state (an American “Stssi”), I am not expecting much “domestic tranquility”.

      • TIME

        Sol,

      • granny mae

        I agree !

      • DaveH

        Sol,
You will understand what Willie meant when you learn what the meaning of is is.
The fact that so many people absolve lying Presidents is a pretty good indication of just how far down the tubes we have gone. There should be no toleration of lying by Politicians. If they tell one blatant lie, they should be gone next election.
I don’t know many other than Ron Paul who would survive those criteria. Ron is one of the few who won’t bend his morality to suit his purposes.

      • eyeswideopen

DaveH, been dying to ask you what you think of the murdoch scandal? Lying, cheating, bribing, hacking, all done by that demi God you all love and believe in. Maybe we will be lucky and Fox news will take a dump. Is this the type of corporation that you want no regulations on? Hell, look what they have done, with regulations that prevent this type of crime. Yep, let’s deregulate everything and we will have more Murdoch criminals running the country.LOL. You had to have known that this man has no ethics didn’t you?

      • Angel Wannabe

EWO, I haven’t found any of them that are scandalous free, point one out won’t you?!!!__I’m laughing my azz off too, and to borrow your words, like your “demiGod” Soros is any Better than Murdoch. At least Murdoch presents the right side instead of ALL left headed points of view. __ Ats pretty funny! You liberals can’t seem to see the Forrest for the trees, nothing your God in the White House has done so far has done any good( Now you liberal azzes are gonna try and take fat kids away fron they’re parents??? ROFLMAO!!!__ASSININE IDIOTS!____You sheep don’t get!!!!LOL, Reply if ya like, but ya won’t get an answer, I’m off to cut grass _ The lines in the sand are drawn, your on the wrong side chickie!!!!!LOL

      • DaveH

First of all, Eyes, I don’t know what scandal you speak of. Maybe you could post a reference.
Second of all, Freedom doesn’t guarantee honesty. I don’t know that any of us have ever said that. There will always be dishonest people, but let’s strive to not having them run our lives.

      • DaveH

I do know that Murdoch has partaken of Government protection and largesse in the past, but rather than delve into who is getting what special favors from the Government, let’s just get the Government out of the Marketplace and let the consumers decide who survives and who fails.

      • Jana

Ha, right now this bill is supposed to be voluntary but it will very quickly become mandatory if it is not stopped right now.

If our brilliant President Obama and our brilliant Congressmen can’t figure out how to balance the budget then they need to get out of the way. There are a lot of us out here who can figure it out and we are just itching to help them!

      • eyeswideopen

Angel, I don’t care for Soros. I think all money should be taken out of elections. States should fund all elections, thus avoiding the lobbyists ability to purchase the officials. Easy solve for a corrupt practice. Stop the money and take back the country!

    • wandamurline

Why doesn’t the Congress, Senate, and White House pay down the debt out of their pocketbooks…they are the ones that spent the money, not the American people. I am 63 years old, and I sometimes do not recognize my country anymore…I am afraid that my 92 year old father fought in the jungles for 4 years and my husband fought in Viet Nam, Desert Storm and Iraq for absolutely nothing. Obama should be impeached, yet there is no one who will step up to the plate…he is viable on at least three counts…suing Arizona and failing to stop the invasion of America by Mexico…bombing Libya without congressional authority…and still bombing Libya after 60 days without congressional authority. What is it going to take? Is the congress going to let the man decide to nuke Israel without congressional authority? When is the military who takes their oathe to the Constitution sacred going to step up to the plate and do something as the cowards in congress will not? We are in a pickle and IF we get to vote in 2012, you had better vote like your life depended on it, because it does.

      • http://www.whitecollarcrime.net Leo

You are exactly right. Our Freedom and lives depend on getting rid of this nutcase and all of his cronies!! I just hope we do not have some jerk running on a 3rd parth and splitting the vote and BHO wins again. It would be a disaster for this country!!!

      • Gary in Oh

The 2 parties you are speaking of are only 1 now. The 3rd party will split the vote because they will be the only decent persons to vote for. If either party wanted things straightened out one of them would be doing it, but things just keep getting worse and they are blaming each other, and the ignorant people are sticking with the 2 party systems. If 1 or both parties say they want to fix the national debt how come we still have it? The current puppet is going to stay in power because a lot of voters will not vote for the right person for the job they will vote for the party they have always voted for just so the other party won’t win. If we vote for a party lets pick a party that isn;t bought and paid for like the 2 largest are!

      • DaveH

        Leo,
You are the “jerk” if you think the Republicans are the answer to this country’s problems. The Republicans are responsible for the endless futile Drug Wars which have accomplished nothing but the taking of more lives, the enrichment of the evil Drug Lords, and the trampling of our Constitutional Freedoms. Add to that the futile attempts to impose our way of life on the rest of the world at great moral and financial costs. And since their inception they have been practicing the same Mercantilism that prompted our Founders to break away from British Rule.
Neither the Democrat leaders, nor the Republican leaders abide by the moral codes of society — Thou shalt not Kill, Thou shalt not Steal.
I know the followers mean well, but the reality is that they are aiding and abetting that immorality with their votes. We have gotten to this point in time because so many people have let sociopathic leaders lead us around by the nose.
It’s time to break the mold. Vote Libertarian!
        http://libertarianparty.org/platform

      • DaveH

Both the Republican leaders and the Democrat leaders are taking advantage of the citizens to the betterment of themselves and their Crony Capitalists. The significant difference between the Republicans and the Democrats is that the Republican leaders are smart enough to only take the golden eggs instead of killing the goose.

      • independant thinker

DaveH……..The Libertarian party will never amount to a thing until they build a grassroots base. Until they can and do provide viable candidates for most if not all local, county, and especially state offices they will only be a low decibil noise in a high decibil world. I am not saying they don’t have some good ideas just pointing out the realities of todays politics.

      • DaveH

The base is building, Thinker. We can’t degauss all those propagandized minds overnight. But as long as so many people, who are otherwise inclined to Libertarianism, withhold their votes because they don’t think they’re “viable”, how do you expect the base to grow quickly?
I would much rather waste my vote on Libertarians, than to vote for the lesser of two evils (which is still just evil).
The Republican Leaders enjoy their power and perks just as much as do the Democrat Leaders, and they aren’t going to give them up willingly.
I can honestly say “Don’t blame me, I voted Libertarian”.

      • Dan az

        Indi
If you vote rep. Then why not vote for the only republican that is for the constitution.Sure RP is a libertarian thats the point. If people would only vote for the lesser of two evils which has been going on for ever then your right we will split the vote so RP changed clothes and Ran the rep.ticket but still Know one is listening to his polices, which is the only thing that could turn this corruption around. If everyone would just research his 30 years they would see he has never deviated from what he stands for.The numbers today show that he is so far ahead of anyone proves the tide is changing. Its all about getting his polices on the air with out the interruptions that they love to do.Hey wouldn’t it be a laugh if we could just get One HR on a debate between him and obumer with out a teleprompter.UH UH UH UH I think UH UH UHits got to be UH UH UH constitutional because UH UH I’m A UH UH UH professor of UH UH UH that!!! :)

      • mark

Yes, but the American people received most of the benefits of all this spending and in fact insist upon it. This is one of the huge hypocrisies of the American people – not the politicians – in this debate. When poll after poll asks the American people should the government institute significant cuts in the federal budget large majorities always say YES. But when the same American people are asked do they support significant cuts in SPECIFIC PROGRAMS – Social Security, Medicare, Defense, Homeland Security, Education, Veterans Benefits and Pensions, Transportation Infrastructure, Crime Prevention, the War on Drugs, Stopping Illegal Aliens, large majorities always say NO! in poll after poll.

      • DaveH

Get it straight, Mark. SOME of the American people (mostly the leaders and their Crony Capitalists) received the benefits, the rest paid for them.
As far as Social Security goes, if they would just pay me what they took from me in real dollars (i.e., adjusted for inflation) I would be quite content. Is that too much to ask, Mark?
As far as your statement that “the same American” people say anything, you know you are blowing smoke up our. You have no idea from any polls how any one person feels about all of the mentioned subjects. So to call us hypocrites is just another Liberal fabrication.
And to say the leaders are a reflection of the voters is equally nonsense, because most of the time the Leaders are not completely truthful about their intentions before being elected. How can the electorate be expected to choose morally when many (if not most) of the leaders are lying to them?

      • DaveH

And now he’s hinting that he may stop Social Security payments if the Congress doesn’t raise the debt ceiling. And he’s pushed the EPA and the FCC to ignore the will of the people and implement rules that Congress couldn’t pass. Yes, he should definitely be impeached.

      • eyeswideopen

DAVEh, I am so surprised that you, who has ample fiscal knowledge, does not understand what will happen if we don’t raise the debt ceiling. By the way, this HR2411 was sponsored by the famous Republican congressman, Rick Crawford, whose own personal financial status is in disrepair. Interesting that the author didn’t identify this as a repub idea. I know you probably know all the reasons why a default is not really a good thing, but just in case this article is for you to see the top five reasons why it is not. http://www.alternet.org/story/151631/5_disastrous_consequences_of_a_debt_ceiling_meltdown?page=4

      • DaveH

Spare me, eyes. I know exactly what will happen if they raise the debt ceiling. They will spend more money that they don’t have and further entrench our children and grandchildren in a debt that they had absolutely no voice in.
If the Creditors lose faith in us because we tear up the credit card, what do you think happens when we borrow even more against that credit card? If we can’t stop the spending now, how can we stop it later?
Fortunately, people like you are in the minority now, so I don’t really care if you open those eyes or not:
