Question About Comments To Articles

July 11, 2011 by

Dear Bob,

Sometimes I comment on Personal Liberty articles and my comments do not show up. What is going on?

A: There are several things that could cause your comment to get caught in our filter system or be deleted by the moderator. We have our filters set to flag certain offensive terms, and the use of those terms will send your comment to spam. Posting the same comment multiple times to different articles (or the same article) will automatically identify you as a spammer and the filters will catch it, so your comments will not appear. It could be that you are violating our comment policy, which is stated just above the comment section. If that is the case, our moderator will edit or remove your post. We do not edit or remove any comments based on whether they agree or disagree with the author or my philosophy, but if the comments are abusive toward the author or other commenters or contain expletives, they will be removed. Frequent violations of the comment policy will get you permanently blacklisted. Posting a comment with two or more hyperlinks will automatically send it to spam. Finally, sometimes glitches happen and comments are lost.

We encourage everyone to take part in civil, intelligent discussions.

Best wishes,

Bob

Comment Policy: We encourage an open discussion with a wide range of viewpoints, even extreme ones, but we will not tolerate racism, profanity or slanderous comments toward the author(s) or comment participants. Make your case passionately, but civilly. Please don't stoop to name calling. We use filters for spam protection. If your comment does not appear, it is likely because it violates the above policy or contains links or language typical of spam. We reserve the right to remove comments at our discretion.
