RINOS To The Left Of Me

Recently, Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-The Tanning Bed) played golf with President Barack Obama (D-George Soros’ pocket). In and of itself, a little time on the links is hard to criticize. We all know the old saw: A day on the golf course is better than a day listening to Obama read Alinskyite babble off the nearest teleprompter. I say that with the expectation that Obama probably sandbags the hell out of his opponents: from each according to his proximity to scratch, to each according to his 20+ handicap.

But Boehner has been playing a lot more than golf with Obama; and instead of a foursome, he’s been playing in a huge scramble with the Democrats. The tide of conservatism (created at least in part by a rising taxpayer recognition that the Democrats’ only plan for the nation appears to involve embittered rhetoric and assignation of blame) gave Boehner his position as Speaker of the House of Representatives. Yet Boehner is developing a far cozier relationship with the people who drove the nation into the ditch than he is with the people who have to winch it out. Whether it’s a vote against defunding the war in which Obama has not embroiled the United States (honest!) or dithering on raising the debt ceiling, Boehner seems to be ignoring the reality that 2010 was not a national referendum on Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House, but a referendum on the increasingly unhinged liberalism of Pelosi, Obama and the Democratic Party.

The people want a conservative partner in Washington, not necessarily a Republican partner. That’s an important distinction, my friends. While Boehner has occasionally demonstrated a backbone, he has also too often run with the RINO herd. Before any of my dear readers respond with condemnations of my refusal to search for across-the-board bipartisanship, allow me to preempt your indignation:

  1. The 2010 turnover had nothing to do with bipartisanship. Voters went to polls across the Nation and told the Democrats (to paraphrase the President): “Sit down and have a Slurpee.” Recent polls indicate voters have even less faith in the Democratic Party now than they did then.
  2. I couldn’t help but notice bipartisanship suddenly became enormously important just moments after the Democrats in the House started having to beg for legislative scraps at the back door.
  3. The Democrats define bipartisanship strangely. As our own Chip Wood pointed out in his column Tossing Grandma off the Cliff and Other Democratic Lies, as opposition to Obamacare solidified, the liberal Democrat group Agenda Project produced a charming TV ad claiming the Republicans were planning the political equivalent of a mob hit on Medicare. The spot in question crossed a new Rubicon in the Democrats’ race to the bottom of the barrel. It depicted a reasonably well-groomed young fellow (whom we know to be a soulless conservative, since he’s wearing a suit, his hair is combed and he appears to have bathed) taking a wheelchair-bound old lady for a leisurely stroll — and pushing her off a cliff. If insinuating that conservatives are out to whack grandma is a Democrat’s idea of bipartisanship, then I’ll pass on the next Congressional love-in, thanks. It is worth noting that the Democrats are the ones pushing Obamacare’s death panels. And while they seem comfortable accusing conservatives of Medicare/Grandmama-cide, I can’t help but wonder where their plan to save Medicare might be. Maybe it fell off a cliff. Their rhetoric has grown exponentially more hysterical as their position has become more tenuous. I suppose hurling hate-filled tirades beats formulating a budget, a coherent foreign policy or a plan for improving the fortunes of people who don’t dine with Oprah Winfrey.

While Boehner and some members of the GOP have been putting from the Democrats’ rough at the Congressional level, another RINO has pushed to the front of the Presidential herd. Ambassador Jon Huntsman has left his post as the Nation’s envoy to the People’s Republic of China to challenge his boss for the big boy chair in the Oval Office. A former Governor of Utah, Huntsman is a well-connected, politically astute and telegenic candidate. While he remains an unknown quantity to many Republican voters (thanks in no small part to a campaign that started more slowly than my mother backing the truck out of the barn), he has access to some well-heeled financiers. And his pre-campaign hype was louder than a Who concert. (For the kiddies who don’t know who The Who is, think Lady Gaga with real instruments, real talent and real… clothing.)

Huntsman is an interesting study in the Revenge of the RINOS, if only because the hype surrounding his will-he, won’t-he, will-he campaign (he will, as it turns out) was generated without any real backing from any identifiable conservatives. In fact, the highest profile endorsement I heard directed toward Huntsman was offered by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.): “…if I had a choice, I’d favor Huntsman” (And if I had a choice, Senator Reid, you would be making little stick figures of Sharron Angle while your ghostwriter worked on your memoirs.) While Huntsman served as Ambassador to China at the pleasure of the President of the United States, he did so not under President George W. Bush, but under President Obama. Given our increasingly lopsided relationship with the ChiComs, I hardly think that serving as the Beijing mouthpiece for Obama’s appeasement-at-all-costs-unless-you-look-like-an-easy-win foreign policy is much of a resume highlight for someone trying to convince voting Republicans that he’s the right man for the Oval Office.

Meanwhile, the man who would come in second in the “Harry Reid Endorsement Sweepstakes” is dragging his own RINO baggage. Say hello to Governor Mitt Romney, who still leads in the increasingly tight race for the GOP Presidential nomination. Romney is hardly the standard-bearer for the wave of conservatism which swept the nation in 2010. In 1994, Romney said: I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country.” Romney now says his position has changed, of course. But he’s in his second race for the White House. My Bravo Sierra detector has an odd tendency to light up like a Christmas tree (how non-p.c. of me, apologies) — Winter Solstice tree — every time a RINO like Romney starts professing his passage to the right side of the political spectrum. Granted, Romney is to Obama as the Four Seasons is to the Super 8. Of course, in Obama’s America the rest of us can’t afford the Super 8 — and we can’t even get in the door of the Four Seasons (Mrs. Obama doesn’t like the riffraff getting too close, you know). But Romney has touted his adherence to the global-warming dogma, and there’s that nagging little matter with Obamacare’s older brother. It strikes me that the same conservative revolution which gave candidates like Romney a chance against Obama can do better than candidates like Romney.

“Better than candidates like Romney” excludes a certain former Speaker of the House. Newt Gingrich is astute, shrewd and easily the best debater of the GOP candidates. But it’s hard to vouch for the conservative credentials of a guy who plays footsie with a parasite like Al Sharpton. And while he was the more attractive of the two people in that “together we can solve it” global-warming promo he did with Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-California Society of Plastic Surgeons), the fact that he did the spot speaks volumes. Tell you what, Mr. Speaker, you and Nancy go solve “it.” Let someone else handle the real issues.

It’s a bit early for me to offer an endorsement in the GOP’s 2012 horse race. Also, no one actually asked me. In the interest of full disclosure, I’m still mildly depressed that neither former Representative Tom Tancredo (R-really not Mexico) nor Governor Chris Christie (R-Joisey) came out of the gate this time around. But there are some roses among the candidate thorns. Herman Cain continues to impress me, although evidently he dents Bob Schieffer’s memory less deeply. Representative Michele Bachmann (R-liberal nightmares) has proven herself early on to be a candidate to watch, and her Tea Party Caucus leadership bespeaks the kind of sound conservative thinking the Nation desperately needs. As an added bonus, she makes liberals do that spit-when-they-talk thing; that always gives me a chuckle. Now, if someone could just get her to stop mistaking the Duke and the Killer Clown, she could really open for business.

Governor Sarah Palin (R-the Grizzly Den) has that same effect on liberals, and she may well be the most unfairly maligned political figure in recent memory. But sometimes, I can’t tell if Palin’s kidding. Of course, I keep hoping that Obama has been kidding for the past few years. And then, there’s Representative Ron Paul (R-Grassroots America). I know I am going to suffer a few slings and arrows (again) from his rather… er… spirited supporters, but I don’t see a President when I see Ron Paul. I see the economics professor I wish Obama had had in college instead of whichever Keynesian moron he listened to. I sincerely hope the Republican who wins in 2012 names Paul Secretary of the Treasury to replace Secretary “Turbo-tax™” Geithner. Paul may oppose punitive and overly Byzantine taxes, but at least we know he pays them.

The 2012 Presidential campaign has a long way to go. In the meantime, it’s a jungle out there, kids. Let’s not mistake the RINOs for the elephants.

    Michele Bachmann also voted for the Patriot Act. She is part of the status quo of the Republican Party. She is more and more talking like Ron Paul (like all of the other nominees) because she sees grass roots America is listening to Ron Paul and his consistent message of truth! And she knows how to be the tipacle politician, not like Ron Paul who is a Statesman. He hasn’t changed or been bought off for over 30 years. Ron Paul is the true constitutional conservative with integrity. To restore America vote Ron Paul.

    Huntsman, is an “approved candidate” of the Democrat Party machinery, which makes him radioactive to most thinking conservatives. I was originally going to back Pawlenty but I had an interesting conversation with one of Repub district bosses and changed my mind. Romney and Perry both wear the RINO label, Romney’s record he is forced to run on is as liberal as the Snow sisters from Maine. Perry is more stealthy but is another candidate that adores the amnesty route and will do nothing to secure the borders of our nation, I can’t believe either one of them can win out over Bachman or Cain. I like the idea of a previous poster, a Bachman, Cain ticket, as long as Bachman gets the top post that is.

        Barb… You are correct, I’m just pointing out a fact.
        Our economy is at stage two, stage three is the collapse that will occur probably next year.. That is when the fed will shut down the banks on a Friday that will last until a “NEW” global currency can be established probably shutting the banks down for several weeks.
        This is their plan… their goal… People had better prepare for what is coming… It will take the strong to help the others… Glenn Beck is correct….

    The only clear candidate that will uphold the Constitution and our freedoms and liberties is Ron Paul. He speaks nothing but the truth about our government and foreign and monetary policies.

      I agree. Those who think we have been the stabilizing force in the world, need to take a good, long look at how unstable the world actually is now. I agree with Dr. Paul that we should limit the federal gov’t–even on foreign policies–to those limitations defined by the Constitution. Has anyone else noticed the growing trend to discredit and de-value the Constitution? I’ve heard several times in the media opinions that the Constitution has become outdated and irrelevant. I think we should all be on guard for a Con-Con. A re-writing of the Constitution would be dangerous in this political and economic climate.

        There are a few changes we should make, such as eliminating the “general Welfare” phrase, and the 16th and 17th amendments, and clarifying the Commerce Clause. In other words, protecting the Constitution from those who want to give the Federal Government unlimited powers.

    I want to thank C130 Gunship for giving me the best laugh I have had in a long time. Unfortunately, laughter gets more scarce as the US takes it agonizing plunge into despair. We all have our opinions on who should be the conservative nominee. There is one thing I think we should all keep in mind, and foremost in our minds: ANYONE BUT OBAMA!!! I personally feel that a Perry/Bachman ticket would be the best. Perry looks like a president, he talks like a president, and he acts like a president; he, of course, will have his own baggage to carry, but there is no doubt of his conservative values; as to his personal missteps, if there were any of much consequence, the Dums would have already dug it up. Stay Stong, patriots, and let’s give them the fight of their lives, because all of ours depend on it.

      But don’t you think Perry will just fill his cabinet with more Bilderbergers, etc.? The president is only as good (and constitutional) as the people around him…most CFR, Bilderberger, Tri-Lateral presidents give high-ranking positions to those type people.

    Ron Paul is not Presidential material in Ben’s eyes probably because Ron has the sense to know that the Drug Wars are a failure (and have been from the start). Or maybe it’s because he doesn’t pretend to know how best to run our personal lives. Or maybe, he isn’t militaristic enough for Ben. After all, he is “isolationist” in many peoples’ eyes because he believes in trading freely with the world, not conquering it.

    John Huntsman, whom nobody had even heard of before a month ago, is not even worth worrying about. He’s going NOWHERE. Sorry leftist media.

    Mitt “conservative today, liberal tomorrow” Romney, a northern clone of our late unlamented Florida governor Charlie “My convictions are in my last poll numbers” Crist, is an equal NON-STARTER. Or, should I say, NON-FINISHER. Yes he “leads the polls” right now, almost exclusively based on name recognition. He tried to pass himself off as a “conservative” four years ago. But he is nothing but a northeastern liberal Republican of the old Rockefeller school and, since saddling his own state with a much hated socialized medicine system, “Romneycare,” he is DEAD among genuine conservatives-libertarians-christian traditionalists. And THAT is who make up today’s GOP. He has absolutely NO chance of carrying Iowa, South Carolina, or my own most important state of Florida. You think we, having just elected Marco Rubio senator and Rick Scott governor, are going to vote for RINO ROMNEY in our primary?

    I shall be attending the Florida GOP “straw poll” convention in Orlando late September and plan to vote for Herman Cain, but would be perfectly happy with Michelle Bachman or Rick Perry. Let “Taxachussetts” Romney enjoy his “15 minutes of fame.” It will be all over early next year.

    It’s a sad commentary that the Republican Party has come to this end. However, it’s what you get when politics is more important then following the US Constitution. Now we have two parties and no one can tell which one is which. The inbreeding of all politicians has left us with the leftovers from the abortion clinic. Blame for this lies with the American Citizens and no one else, proves we truly will be and are being destroyed from within.

      I’m glad you brought that up, John. The truth is that most Countries which fail do so from within, rather than from outside attack.
      The fear-mongers would have us believe otherwise, because they have a vested interest in convincing us that we are in grave danger from other countries, and need their protection. When, in fact, our country would be less susceptible to outside Conquerors than most other countries.

As a young man i remember watching Nikita Khrrushchev, the last leader of the former USSR on TV saying that Americans worry about being attacked by the USSR. He ended his speech with these words. The USSR will never fire one shot at the United States. You will fall from within. I didn’t think much about it at the time. Today i see this coming true before my very eyes.

      I think that “Conservative” is one of the most widely defined words in political language.
      From thefreedictionary.com:
      Conservative — Favoring traditional views and values.
      In my book our traditional values started with the founding of our Country and the Constitution. Our founders did not concern themselves with peoples’ personal choices for their bodies and properties. They were much too busy trying to protect people from the force of others.
      Why don’t we concentrate on that, and NOT protecting people from themselves?

    My money is on Bachman/Cain ticket. People who have millions of dollars and joke about being unemployed, is not funny to me. Another strike against Huntsman and Romney is that both are Latter Day Saints, which is a cult not a religion. I’m sorry if you can believe the hooey Joseph Smith pulled out of his hat then I don’t need you in the White House.

      Romney’s religion is or should not be an issue. The LDS church (Mormons) are as much Christian as Baptists, Methodists, and Presbyterians, or Catholics for that matter. I am personally an agnostic but lived for some years in Arizona, a major Latter Day Saints population area. Mormons are GOOD PEOPLE, even the few Democrat-socialist ones like the Babbits and Udalls. They work hard, take care of thier own (don’t find Mormons in welfare lines,) and live by a strong moral code. The ignorant, jealous, Mormon-bashers are merely a nasty distraction. One suspects they’d also object to a Catholic or a Jew. I dislike Romney for his POLITICS not his religion. I’ll bet MOST of the conservative Republican LDS folks I’ve known oppose him too.

        I think you might be wrong, though, about the Conservative Mormans rejecting Romney. One of my best lifetime friends is Morman and Conservative. My feeling is that Mormans would vote for Mormans like teachers tend to vote for Democrats.

        I am Mormon and thought of voting for Romney…. well, I write in the current prophet and leader of our faith first before I vote for Romney (and our prophet is surely unelectable). I am willing to forgive him his past errors if he was willing to admit to his mistakes. However, like a grand politician, he avoids accepting blame or admitting his wrongs. And I am not talking about the stand on pro-life. That one he at least claims to have changed his views. What gets me is “Romney-care.” How can you take away people’s freedom to choose health care, and then say you are for freedom in health care? You are for an individual mandate while at the same time opposed to the law? He won’t even admit that “Romney-care” was a mistake. In one statement I am reading how touts that is saving money, and in another article on the same day I can read how it is costing the state large sums of money and the negative impact it has had on their health care system. All this time I am noticing that is only Romney and those for universal health care are taking the side that “Romney-care” is good. How can such be a conservative? This sounds like a politician to me. We’ve got way too many politicians and most of those seem to be leading us to tyranny. I don’t want any of that. So unless I receive some revelation that Romney is actually restore freedom in America, with only his record to judge him by as a man, I must as a Mormon vote against him. I do not want to fall into the trap that so many have with “making history” by voting in a non-white president. If race or gender were an issue, then surely my two current preferences would not be Cain or Bachmann. However, my two preferences are Cain or Bachmann.

        Bryan, you just admitted a huge amount of theological ignorance for which there is forgiveness…thank God. Mormonism is not a Christian faith. It relies not on Christ (which would be the first litmus test) but on the works of man. That is anathema to Holy Scripture. Anyone tied up and absorbed into that kind of pack of lies is no leader you want in public office with the ability to lay legislation your direction.

        For more info on Mormons go grab a copy of there D & C (Doctrines and Covenants) and get a whif of what they REALLY teach. You won’t believe it…I pray you won’t anyway.

        The church is called the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints. They believe that Jesus visited the new world, converted some ancient Incians who disappeared. That is every bit as believable as Moses holding back the Red Sea. The angel Moroni visited Elmyra New York back in the 1830′s and let Joseph Smith copy the Book Of Mormon off os golden tablets before taking them back to heaven for safekeeping. In what way is THAT any less believable as Jesus walking on water or arising from the dead?

        I say this not to denigrate Christianity, but to point out that Christian mythology is no more bizarre than any other. The matter here is FAITH and it is not subject to evidence or reason, it’s FAITH. Mitt Romney believes in a Christian faith diffferent from yours, who cares? The largest group of Christians in the world are Roman Catholics (I’m a former one.) Billion of so of ‘em; bet you don’t think THEM “christians” either. Right

        Maybe; but the key question as to whether the cult is maligned or dangerous is to ask, ‘If/when I carry out the rites of this cult, who gets the glory?’ If it’s someone standing next to you that would be a problem. If it’s you; that would be a problem.

        In Christianity, as we engage the culture around us, God gets the glory; not us…we believe that’s a good thing.

    It’s way too late in the game to really make a difference. Proof is looking at the current RINO field except for M. Bachmann. The rest of this pathetic gang represents the same old political bag of fecal matter that has been force feeding the American public to eat fecal sandwiches for decades now. The USA is going to collapse folks, start preparing now as best you can. The political and economic conditions in the USA is almost a perfect match to Germany in the 20s and 30s that brought Hitler to power, and don’t forget he was voted in.

    We fought the King of England, the Nazis, and the Communists to avoid this. Thanks to Newt, Romney, Herman Cain, Huntsman (think Neville Chamberlain),and many others like them, I get to die in a revolution instead of living out a natural life.         Which “Constitutional Right” is that? I only ask, because the Contitution does not gauantee you, me or anyone else “Rights”. The Constitution is a contract which tells the government….what “it” can and cannot do….period. It does not grant rights of any kind at all. According to the Declaration of Independence, Our “unalienable rights” are granted by our creator:

        We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

        Average Joe– You only get partial credit on your rant. The Constitution contains many phrases, clauses, and amendments detailing ways people cannot be denied the RIGHT to vote. You cannot deny the RIGHT to vote because of race or gender. Citizens of Washington DC can vote for President; 18-year-olds can vote; you can vote even if you fail to pay a poll tax. The Constitution also requires that anyone who can vote for the “most numerous branch” of their state legislature can vote for House members and Senate members. Please refer to Article. 1., Section 2.

        Note that in all of this, though, the Constitution never explicitly ensures the right to vote, as it does the right to speech, for example. It does require that Representatives be chosen and Senators be elected by “the People,” and who comprises “the People” has been expanded by the aforementioned amendments several times. Aside from these requirements, though, the qualifications for voters are left to the states. And as long as the qualifications do not conflict with anything in the Constitution, that right can be withheld.         Even in the Bill of Rights (an extension of the Constitution), it states….the congress shall make no laws….etc….It still is a document that tells government what it can and cannot do. It still “grants no rights to the people”. States on the other hand can do pretty much anything that is not granted to the Federal Government in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution.
        The Tenth Amendement garantees that right to the states….or to the people.
        The nice thing about those things “granted to the states”…is that if you don’t agree with a state’s policies, you are free to move to another state that is more in tune with your personal values. When the Federal Government institutes policies outside of its authority (UnConstituional)…the only place to go is….another country.

        Congress cannot deny you the the right to vote….Notice the phrase: “Congress cannot deny”. The Constituion did not grant you the right…it only “prohibits the congress” from denying the right.
        Once again, the Constituion does not “grant” any rights…it “prevents” congress from taking any “rights” away…..Your rights still come from your creator…..

        Many people don’t understand the concept that “We are not a party to the Constitution”….we did not draft it, we did not sign it nor are “we” restricted by it….only the government holds all three distinctions and are therefore “A party to the Constitution”….we are not.

        As for the matter of how and where Senators are elected:

        In 1913, Corp. U.S., through Congress, adopts (as if ratified) its 17th amendment. This amendment is not only not ratified, it is not constitutional; the nation’s Constitution forbids Congress from even discussing the matter of where Senators are elected, which is the subject matter of this amendment; therefore they cannot pass such and Act and then of their own volition, order it entered as ratified. According to the United States Supreme Court, for Congress to propose such an amendment they would first have to pass an amendment that gave them the authority to discuss the matter.

        The problem as I see it is this….most people…DON”T READ. They sit back on the couch and watch their 15 second soundbites from the MSM of their choice and accept it a gospel, not realizing that the MSM has an agenda ( no matter which one of them it is). When the MSM “reports” on something, all they give you is what they want you to have (partial statements, misstatements etc.), but never the whole story or comments made by whoever they happen to be reporting on….unless that person supports “their agendas”.
        As for my knowledge of the Constitution, for a couple of years I was auditing classes at a local Law School in order gain access to their Law Library. I have never wanted to be an Attorney (they have to play by the courts rules if they are members of the bar or they loose their lic. to parctice). My motives were to be able to represent myself properly in their domain…without threats of loss of earnings. Most people think that courts are about law and justice…they are not, they about following procedures and nothing more. I would sugest buying a copy of Black’s Law dictionary…many of the legal terms that we hear have a totally differnt meaning in law than what we think they mean….some of the definitions will take you by complete suprise……it’s almost like picking up a dictionary written in a foreign language.

        You’re right, George, on Ron Paul’s foreign policy. his “pull out all troops everywhere immediately” is a bit too drastic for me. I’m no foreign policy expert but I believe we’ve been the stabilizing force around the world for the last 60 years or so. Granted, there are places around the world where we are no longer needed or where we simply do not do any good (for us or they), but the wholesale pullout of all troops everywhere is a message for the crazies and the anarchists to go for it.

        As for the legalization of marijuana, etc. Yes, I think it would be a bad move; it would just be another excuse for the government to collect more revenue. I don’t do drugs (of ANY kind) but there needs to be some kind of way to take the incentive for making quick, lucrative money out of it.

        Seems to me that if marijuana is illegal…available on a black market which seems to make exorberant amounts of money on it, as well as creating a culture of crime and violence because of the illegality and demand….that you would favor decriminaliztion or legalization in order to remove the seedy underbelly of the entire “business” of the trade. If it is readily available ( with restictions similar to alcohol), that it would remove the criminal and violent elements associated with the trade of such “products”.
        As with prohibition, making something illegal does not stop the traffic of such things…..it never has and it never will. People can and will get anything they want….regardless of legality or illegality of that which they seek….Prohibition doesn’t work…as it is nothing more than government dictating moralality on the populous…a power not granted to government.

        I really think a lot of people think if drugs are legal everybody is going to try them and even become addicted. But I ask people “Alcohol is legal, are you an alcoholic?”, and of course they say No. And the experience in Portugal since Drugs became legalized is that usage actually declined a little. That makes sense, as having the profit greatly diminished, the “pushers” would have a lot less incentive to “push” the drugs. Also, some people (especially teenagers) take drugs for the sole purpose of flaunting the establishment.

        I think the other thing that people miss is that Ron Paul isn’t saying that drugs should necessarily be legalized, his point is that the FEDERAL government shouldn’t be controlling it. Whether you agree with legalizing drugs or not, and whether you would suddenly start smoking weed if it was legalized (or already do anyway) you have to admit that it is absolutely ridiculous that there were instances where the DEA (an unconstitutional agency) raided LEGAL medical MJ dispensaries in California. If I were a CHiP, I would have tasered those DEA agents and thrown them in jail for a while until the courts could figure things out.
        The right answer is to leave it up to the states as Ron Paul suggest. Then if you want to, work to get it legalized in your state. If it’s legal in your state and you don’t like it – move to someplace where it’s still illegal. THAT is the way our founding fathers wanted things to work – states try different things and see how they work WITHOUT federal interference. When stuff works, then other states copy it. When it fails, the other states laugh at you. :) .

        I am very opposed to illegal drugs–and actually, I don’t believe in taking most that ARE legal. However, I think you miss the point with Dr. Paul. To believe that the government should not have control over a particular area of one’s life is not the same as saying you condone every aspect of that particular matter. I would never use drugs or condone someone else doing so, but I do not think it is a matter for the federal gov’t to decide…that is, if we still operate under the Constitution. If you watch Congressman Paul’s votes, he is very often placed in a difficult position of having to vote against something that seems good on the surface, but is unconstitutional. His job is to support and defend the constitution and that is the filter he uses for voting. I, for one, would LOVE for all Congressmen to do the same.

    I also like Herman Cain, however, his one downfall (as in the other candidates) is he is pro-amnesty and has a very bad rating on immigration. Bachmann on the other hand is the only one that has a high rating on immigration(as in closing the borders, against amnesty, etc.) I believe she is a true conservative.

      Herman Cain has a history of solving financial problems and that is what we need right now. He may not be perfect, no candidate is, but I think he is the best hope for getting us out of our financial crisis which was started by Bush and grossly amplified by Obama.

      If Bachmann gets the nomination, she’ll get my vote. Romney, Gingrich or the other establishment elite candidates won’t.

      We could make history, if we don’t like the party’s choice, by writing in the name of the candidate whom we do like. We could have the first ever write in president. Don’t be sheep and just vote for whomever the party tells you to vote for, which is a waste of your vote. Vote for the person whom you truly believe in.

The conversation evolved into a discussion of the definition of the word “hostilites” in explaining why the Libya incursion does not fit under the definition of “hostilities”. Reminded me of that guy some years ago who tried to defend his actions by arguing about the definition of the word “is”.

        Mis-use of the apostrophe makes me crazy, especially since many people do it all the time. They cannot tell the difference between plural and possessive. In addition, many people do not see the difference between “there” and “their”. It makes me wonder if they were fast asleep during English grammar class. Oh, well – I was a wiz at English, but totally sucked at math (and still do, unless I study and practice math problems like crazy). Maybe it’s a left brain/right brain thing.

        Gyro: is a dish of meat roasted on a vertical spit, generally served as a sandwich, also called gyros, with tomato, onion, and tzatziki sauce, wrapped in pita bread.

        And for those that do not know how to pronounce Gyro, it is pronounced Yee-ro not Gy-ro (as in gyroscope) , of Greek origin…..I always cringe when I hear someone mispronounce the word….while in the military, I spent 18 months in Athens….after being corrected and laughed at a few times, I learned how to pronounce it properly.

        Yes I was, and it was great for the most part. I was USN working for the Fleet Support Offices there 1974- 1975. Things were a bit scary there for a while though. I was there during the time that the Turks invaded Cypress and since Greece was not a member of NATO, we could not intervene, which of course caused a big rift between the US and Greece. I had a few friends who were beaten by Greek civilians and one who had a moltov cocktail thrown into his car (while he was in it), he managed to get out of the car with minor injuries but was then attacked by the mob and spent 2.5 months in the hospital. During this time, we weren’t allowed to wear our uniforms…as if the Greeks couldn’t figure ut that were Americans…based on our skin color and limited communication skills in speaking Greek.
        I’ve always wanted to go back for a visit….but I really don’t think now would be a good time…..everything considered.

        Actually, I did respond to your post this morning and hope that after you read it, that you understand a little better where I am comming from. I should have ended my last sentence with a question mark…so please don’t take it the wrong way.
        I don’t tend to hold grudges and if there are people that I just can’t talk rationally too…like the retired police officer from the other day…. I usually try to avoid replying to them after the first volly (the full daily blog). Sometimes there is that one person that just gets under your skin and no matter what, you just can’t shake it loose until you’ve said what you think needs to be said….and sometimes it is just to draw them and make them show their true colors to the community.
        You, I have no issues with at all….we can agree to disagree once in a while on issues…that’s only human…..
        Heck, I’ve even found myself defending eddie lately….sometimes I think we pick on him too much….and yes I know, he can be out there in left field most of the time, but every once in a while as much as I hate to admit it…..he does say something that I can agree with him about (not very often, but occasionally)…..maybe subconsciencely, I’m trying to catch the fly with honey rather than vinegar….lol

    Bachmann’s shortcomings, which include:

    Two terms in Congress for Bachmann, as opposed to 12 terms for Paul.
    As a legislator in Minnesota, Bachmann allegedly proposed US$60 million in earmarks.
    In Congress, in 2007, Bachmann appropriated US$3.7 million in federal pork.
    A report shows Bachmann’s counseling clinic got US$30,000 in state and federal subsidies, and a family farm received a US$260,000 federal farm subsidy.
    In 2008 Bachmann voted for Nancy Pelosi’s stimulus bill.

    Paul is indeed a true advocate for “the little guy,” , noting the Texan argues against the taxing of waitress’ tips while Bachmann, as a tax attorney, allegedly went after a taxpayer earning less than US$10,000 a year.

    While Bachmann has strode to the head of national polls mainly due to media exposure not given to Ron Paul while borrowing his views and Tea Party, the fact that Paul’s views are being accepted is a good thing and supporters should not panic.

        Even if every good thing said about Ron Paul is true, he will not win — he is not charismatic enough, and the TV makes and breaks. Perhaps coaching would help if he would agree to it, but he needs it if he is to have a chance. He’s got to speak a bit slower, not combine too many ideas in each sentence, shape his answers better, have pauses for impact, stand up straight, smile occasionally, and look directly into the lens. As someone said earlier, he sounds like an economics professor speaking to students that have no choice but to furiously take notes. All of these traits undermine the impact he could make. Essentially, he could use some basic Toastmasters training.

        I wouldn’t categorize him as bizarre, but he does have some beliefs that I don’t agree with. He is against income tax and abolishing the IRS. He also voted against the Patriot Act. He is soft on supporting Israel. He opposes any kind of universal health care and the US war on drugs. He does not believe in federal control of marriage laws. Some very racist remarks have been attributed to him including calling Barbara Jordan a “fraud”. He was also quoted as saying that “only 5% of Black people have enough political sense to vote correctly”. He is for legalizing prostitution and marijuana. He is 75 years old and would be the oldest man ever elected POTUS

To say he’s unelectable is just a misnomer to plant the seed of doubt into anyone’s tiny little brain so that they instead vote for talking points instead the real thing..         I believe that Ron Paul, like the majority of Libertarians, which is what he is, is a nut job. He may call himself a Republican but he isn’t and if he gets the nomination, which he won’t, the election will go to Obama.

        I believe the only real hope of turning the country around is Herman Cain. He has a history of solving financial problems and he doesn’t use taxpayer money to do it. He uses his intelligence and puts together teams that get results. However, he won’t, I’m sorry to say, be the GOP candidate either. The party won’t support him.

        Mitt Romney is going to be the party’s candidate this time, I’m sure of it. The party will anoint him and the party sheep will obey them and turn their support toward him. He tops my list of Republicans whom I absolutely will not vote for. In fact, I believe that if Romney is the candidate, the election goes to Obama. Romney care was Obama’s template for Obamacare.

        There are things about Michelle Bachmann that bother me, but I would have no problem voting for her, and, it would not be a case of voting for the lesser of two evils, which I won’t do any more. I’d rather have Herman Cain, though.

        If Romney, Gingrich, Giuliani, Pawlenty or any of the other establishment Republicans are the candidate, and as I said I believe it will be Romney, I will write in Herman Cain’s name on my ballot because, for the first time since Reagan, he is a candidate I believe in.

        I still think Sarah Palin is the best candidate hands down for the Republicans, but even their “upper echelon” has bought into the attacks the democrats put on her to give her a bad name. There is no single person that a political party has ever gone at as hard as Sarah Palin, yet they come up with nothing but fabrications to try to give her a pad name. The liberal media constantly prints bad things about her, and they all figure if they do it long enough, her name will be mud, and they are getting what they wanted, because she scares the hell out of them, because when she served as Governor of Alaska, she actually did what she was elected to do, serve the people. She loves God and country and family, and they are afraid of that also. Me, I embrace those ideals, and I still think she is the best candidate.

        You may be right about dry presentations from Dr. Paul. However, I prefer a president who may not be the greatest of orators, but knows the Constitution and will stand in front of the gates of hell (or Congress) to defend it. Yes, some of Dr. Paul’s more libertarian views may not sit well with the public, but much of that is because the public is by and large, uneducated. Most Americans have no idea what our founding documents say. Most Americans have no idea that the entire welfare state and ALL of the programs that it has spawned are completely UNCONSTITUTIONAL. America would look very different today had she heeded the warnings Dr. Paul has consistently given for the last three decades! Call me crazy, but I’ll take Dr. Paul and all his unadulterated support for the Constitution any day.

        What is unfortunate is that we’re probably going to see a repeat of 1980. Excluding Reagan, the Republicans (Congressmen) that were elected were just the typical Big-Government loving Republicans whose “conservative” rhetoric belied their actions. And Government did its usual. It grew.
        When are the Republican masses going to catch on that the Republican Party is playing them? They’ve been the party of Mercantilism, and the party of Empire since their beginning in the mid-1800s. And they haven’t changed.

        I was a Democrat until 1978. Jimmy Carter turned me into an Independent. Because of Ronald Reagan, I became a Republican. Because of George W. Bush, John McCain, Michael Steele and the direction the Republican party was going in I became an Independent once again and I still am. I do not support either party and though I may vote for a Republican for president, I will never, ever vote for a Democrat. I only vote for people whom I deem to be true conservatives and that, as far as I’m concerned, leaves out the entire Democrat party. I don’t believe there is any such thing as a conservative Democrat. There are very few conservatives in the Republican party any longer either. With perhaps the exception of Michelle Bachmann, none of the current leading candidates are true conservatives. Romney certainly isn’t, nor are Gingrich and Pawlenty. Herman Cain, I believe, is the truest conservative of the bunch. If he got into the race, I would add Allen West to my list of true conservatives.

        DaveH, that is your view and you know I respect that, but you are wrong in my opinion about Bachmann. Yes, she believes in our security and military strength and showing support of our allies.

        Two things stand out to me in her statement: “I will devote the resources necessary to maintain our fighting forces as second-to-none, while ‘being judicious in the use of our power’. I will not rest until the war on terror is won.”

        I believe and support the conservative values that Bachmann brings to the table and rest assure that there will always be terrorists plotting against democracy. I am interested to hear more from her but to say she is a “cog in the wheel of the military state” is a bit early and over reaching in my opinion.

        Government has caused those people to hate us. Yes, fanatical Islamics are controlling, evil people. But chances are they wouldn’t have risked messing with us without our Government messing heavily in their business. Imagine, for instance, how you are going to feel when the UN has troops here patrolling our streets to “keep the peace” (translation — protect the leaders from the people)?
        We need to stop letting the military statists and the welfare statists lead us around by the nose as they take more and more of our freedoms away.

Obviously I do like Bachmann and, as you are aware, I’m also a fan of Ron Paul. I do wish that Judge Napolitano would consider a run with Paul. My ideal ticket would be a Paul/Bachmann ticket.

      Why shouldn’t the waiter/waitress’ tips (and any other individual who receives tips) be taxable income? Some receive a very high salary based on those tips, it just depends on where they work. Quite frankly, tipping should be disallowed by all business establishments because those businesses earn enough profit that they can pay appropriate wages. As for other businesses that do pay appropriate wages and the server receives a tip, why should I give them one? If a woman pays $75 to have her hair done, that should be it–yet the server demands at a minimum a $5 tip. Baloney! Bachmann has it right–servers should pay taxes on their tips.

      Rep. Bachmann is mostly good. You have pointed out some legititmate shortcomings which are not surprising to expect when we elect lawyers as lawmakers. But yu missed her biggest flaw, support for the unconstitutional and misnamed “Patriot Act”. While she might believe that it was a protection for natinal security, it shows clearly that she is not nearly as good a candidate as Ron Paul. Maaybe she would accept the vice presidential nomination. Paul/Bachmann 2012????

      Regretably, I doubt the Republican team will be even remotely that good. Romney/Guliani 2012??? OMG!

And let me ask you this, why is someone not a Christian to you if they call a spade a spade? Im a Christian, and I fully believe he is a muslim. So how does that make me bad?         Do some research. Ron Paul is NOT for abruptly ending Medicare or Social Security. He is for paying out the remaining benefits to those that have paid in, but is FOR allowing people to ‘opt-out’ of the system, because we ALL KNOW they’re going broke. The govt was initially only supposed to have access to the INTEREST on it, for emergencies only, war-time, etc. They have actually spent ALL of the interest, and have dipped into the principle. Because of that, as a program it’s unsustainable…a Ponzi scheme. If you choose not to opt out, well, much luck to you on collecting it when you retire.

        Charity starts at home; not from the money they steal from my paycheck. If you actually got to keep the money that you earn, you and others in your family would be able to help each other during periods of difficulty, and those with no families would be able to donate their money to local charities as they see fit.

        We all know from both foreign and domestic tragedies, that Americans are very generous. Look at the amount they donated through their churches and Red Cross to places like Japan (earthquake/tsunami), New Orleans (Hurricane Katrina), Haiti (earthquake), Joplin, MO (tornado), etc. Local people tend to be very generous with both their money and their time when they know that people in their communities are suffering. You can’t go thru a drive-thru in my community without seeing little paper hands, or shoes, or hearts, with the name of someone who had donated to some cause or other. I feel I’ve made my point here.

        I’m very lucky to be able to both pay my taxes and help out my family. But if I got to keep everything that I worked for, I’d be able to help out my community financially by donating to shelters and pantries. Remember, FORCED charity (through taxation) is NOT charity at all.

        Although I agree with you that no one can blame President Bush for the brunt of the economic decline, I beg to differ on whether or not we were doing great with him. Forgive me if I am wrong, but I believe we have him to thank for the un-Patriot Act. As a freedom-loving, Constitution-supporting American, I vehemently oppose that piece of arrogant legislation.

        As for who is to blame for the economic woes of America, I believe the blame falls on everyone who participates in Head Start, Planned Parenthood, WIC, and any other handout that should not exist under our Constitution. It is a simple case of supply and demand. If there was no demand from the lazy populace to have the gov’t (or those of us paying taxes)supply all their “needs”, Congressmen would not believe they can buy votes by supplying handouts. Think about how differently our “leaders” would govern without kickbacks, vote-buying, perks,etc. Term limits would go far in creating citizen statesmen rather than fat cats. If you care to support term limits, Senator Jim DeMint is leading that charge and could use your support.

Put the blame of the patriot act on those who wrote it, debated it and signed it to put it in front of a president. 535 representatives thought it was a ‘good idea’ (I agree with you that in retrospect it was horrid). We were at war with terror and this was a knee jerk reaction that most of us fell for. It’s just too handy to blame Bush; especially when our elected representatives came up with it and they all voted for it.

        That is not true. Bush did not triple the size of government. Bush did not double the size of government. And the spending he did grow, here it is. There was a 61 percent increase in National defense spending. Do you know why? Because Clinton cut the military and intelligence agencies in half. It needed rebuilt to keep us safe, and gee, weve been kept safe. Had it remained at Clintons cut down levels, who knows how many 9-11′s might have happened. He had 129% increase in student assistance. Gee, I thought it was a good thing to help education. Unless your on the right I guess. Then medical care was 54%. We have a lot of people getting older. These 3 were the largest ticket items. Some things are worth spending on, some arent. I agree the Republicans should have cut spending more, but Im willing to bet had they not had to rebuild the military, take care of education that Clinton neglected, and pay more for medical care, I think his spending would have been a lot less than Clintons. And dont forget, Clinton raised taxes more than anyone ever. Just some tidbits of info.

        I have no argument with anything you just said. I fully agree with it. As Charles Krauthammer said on “Special Report With Brit Hume” in November of 2008, George Bush was the most socialist president in the history of this country.

        Bush did leave this country pretty bad off when he left office. There is no doubt about that. But the Nazi we now have in office has magnified that problem a hundred times (maybe more) over. His policies do not work, and, unless you are totally brain dead, it should be obvious.

        I believe Obama’s goal from day one has been to destroy America by destroying America’s economy. That is exactly what he is doing and the America haters on the left are cheering him on!

        Bush left an ailing economy no doubt. But if we look back, and 9/11 didn’t happen, what would the economy of the latter years of his term look like? When you go into full defensive mode against an enemy that will stop at nothing to kill you, where do you draw the line? While everyone knows Bin Laden was behind this attack, finding him while having very high priority was not in the forefront, because prevention of more similar attacks was more important. The world seems to forget that this was not the first attack orchestrated by this bad guy against our country. Little is said about the fact that Clinton had good intel on his location and failed to have the intestinal fortitude to give the order to capture or kill him. So, you can continue to blame Bush for this mess we are in, or you can own up to the present danger of a do nothing, campaigner in chief like the one now occupying Air Force One and sometimes the White House. But make no mistake, if Mr. Obummer weren’t facing a tough election in 2012, Bin Laden would still be occupying his compound in Pakistan. If you paid attention to his victory speech when the bad guy was taken out, you must realize that he did that mostly on his own with little help from the navy seals, the intelligence department folks, and the commanders who put this operation together.
        The real problem is a do nothing president. One who spent the first two years of his term cheer leading Harry and Nancy to get his health care law passed, and no doubt his next two years campaigning for re-election. All the while dodging every tough issue that could put pressure on him from the voters of this nation. When you elect a ringmaster, you get a circus.

        If one were truthfully to look at Bush’s economy, they would see the only reason, yes, the one and only reason it went south his last two years, was that everyone with any kind of successful business sense, knew without a doubt there was no way 150 year old John McCain, a career politician, in a time where people are sick of career politicians, was going to win the election. Therefore, their common sense told them a democrat was coming into office. Therefore, again, common sense told them that the democrats are going to want their money, and like they always do, they are going to raise taxes and punish business and take their money. So what happened? Business stopped expanding, they withheld their money and kept cash reserves to be able to pay these tax monsters and stay solvent. People lost their jobs, and things got tight. That is the one and only reason why the economy went bad. Now as evident of this, you watch when it is winding down in Obama’s last year, and it become evident that he isnt going to get re-elected, business will pick up and jobs will be created, and Obama will try to take credit for it. Or, if it looks like he has half a chance of getting re-elected, which I seriously doubt because I dont think the American people are that stupid to repeat the mistake, then the economy will stay on hold until it is certain he is gone, then it will take off in leaps and bounds. Think Im wrong? You watch and see, and Ill guarantee it. Now if he gets re-elected, and people are that stupid to repeat the mistake, then all I can say, is God help us all, because we will be in some serious deep, deep weeds if this happens.

        I am surprised about your post, we knew of GW’s failing companies before he ran for governor of Texas. One company named Arbusto meaning similar to bush in Spanish and Harken. Both companies fell on hard times. Some of financial backing was from Salem bin Laden brother to Osama. You must have taken the unemployment figures from the first few weeks of his administration. If it weren’t, he’s still be on that bandwagon, since the “document” obama produced is most certainly a forgery. Romney is definitely a liberal in GOP clothing. Anyone out there who thinks Newt is taken in by the global warming hoax is several cards short of a deck. He’s our best bet in 2012. All the others, except Trump and Huntsman, are worlds better than obama, but Newt will get my vote in the primaries.
