The Robber Barons

June 27, 2011 by

The Robber Barons

Ben Bernanke is stumped.

That’s what the Federal Reserve chairman told The Associated Press last week. The AP report said:

“Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke told reporters Wednesday that the central bank had been caught off guard by recent signs of deterioration in the economy. And he said the troubles could continue into next year.

‘We don’t have a precise read on why this slower pace of growth is persisting,’ Bernanke said. He said the weak housing market and problems in the banking system might be ‘more persistent than we thought.’”

I thought he was the smartest guy in the room. But eight weeks ago, he was singing a different tune. He said then that the job market was gradually improving.

Since then, unemployment has gone up. It was at 9.1 percent in May. New jobless claims hit a seasonally adjusted 429,000 for the week of June 13. (It’s topped 400,000 for 11 straight weeks.) And the Fed has revised its forecast for economic growth this year down to a range of 2.7 percent to 2.9 percent from its April estimate of 3.1 percent to 3.3 percent.

The economy grew only 1.8 percent in the first three months of 2011. That, of course, is not what the Fed expected. Back in January, Charles Plosser, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, told The Hill newspaper that the economy “could expand by 4 percent and interest rates may need to go up.”

Does anyone see a pattern here? Isn’t it time for Bernanke and company to admit they haven’t a clue?

Trillions of dollars of spending money created out of thin air in the form of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), bailouts, loans to banksters — both foreign and domestic — and stimulus haven’t changed the economic situation. Throwing more fiat money at the problem has made it worse.

Who knew? Lots of people, but none of them subscribe to the same Keynesian philosophy that Bernanke, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and the economic advisers to the Presidents — Barack Obama and those before him — subscribe to.

Some of us saw this coming long ago. In February 2008, I wrote in my monthly newsletter, The Bob Livingston Letter™:

“The focus of the Federal Reserve is on preventing the collapse of the financial balloon.

“There is no free market solution to the credit collapse. More likely we are witnessing a de facto nationalization of the banking system in which massive profits flow to the private sector while big losses accrue to the public, as always.

“The banking system is insolvent or on the verge of insolvency. The Fed will be voicing repeated concerns about inflation while sacrificing the savers of the world to salvage the banking system.

“We will float on paper money. Buy gold and silver!

“Up to now, gold has served mainly as a bet against the dollar and U.S. policy failures, but just ahead, gold will be a strong bet against all fiat globalism. Gold is a tremendous alternative to political foolishness. We sit in the middle of a spectacular finale in the next two to three years.

“In 2008, I expect silver to glitter maybe at an all time nominal high.

“The planners are managing a silent and invisible reduction in the American living standard.

“Be forewarned!”

In the March 2008 Letter I wrote:

“When central banks expand the money supply, it gives rise to the consumption of goods of every description, which is not preceded by production (and savings). It leads silently to less means of sustenance. As long as the pool of funding continues to expand, loose monetary policies give the impression that economic activity is being boosted. It is a great illusion to all but the sober.

“In reality, economic activity is not boosted and to some it becomes apparent. Once this happens, the economy begins its downward plunge. Then the most aggressive expansion of the money supply will not reverse the plunge.

“This foretells that the end of the financial system is near. At that point you will need your precious metals to survive.

“Some things will rise big in price, like food, fuel and commodities. While homes will go down for some time, bailouts and foreclosures will last for years. Precious metals will keep going up!

“Under cover of this financial crisis, I expect a vast nationwide expenditure for infrastructure like highways and bridges. This is badly needed in the U.S. now.”

In the January 2009 Letter I wrote:

“Paper money expands consumption way beyond income. This eventually guarantees debt collapse and social breakdown. The foundation of the household collapses and the middle class is destroyed. Paper money is an illusion and illusory because it is non-substance and can be created by the government to infinity. When the people accept numbers on green strips of paper or computer symbols for money, they accept illusion for reality.”

In the May 2009 Letter I wrote:

“Bubbles and bailouts are not paid for with gold and silver. They are paid for with printing press money, which dilutes your savings and retirement funds. So who are the heroes of bubbles and bailouts? The short answer is, the money creators. They are presiding over and benefiting from the greatest transfer of wealth in history, with the almost certain guarantee that they will never be found out because they are operating above the threshold of perceived reality.

“We should, of course, know that every new dollar that the money creators create dilutes every dollar already created. They are using non-substance, fiat, that costs them nothing and exchanging it for substance in the form of capital assets. This is a transfer of wealth by definition. This depreciating fiat is impoverishing all who hold dollar assets.”

This article was reprinted in January 2010 here, if you’d like to read it in its entirety.

I point these out not to toot my horn or present myself as a sage, but to show that some of us understand what is going on. I’m not alone.

In his 2007 book, Crash Proof: How to Profit from the Coming Economic Collapse, Peter D. Schiff wrote, “The real estate bubble, easily the worst speculative episode in American history, has been artificially propping up the entire national economy. The unwinding will cause havoc reaching well beyond the stakeholders directly involved.”

In an article for the Ludwig von Mises Institute titled The Rescue Package Will Delay Recovery, adjunct scholar Frank Shostak wrote:

“(T)he rescue package cannot prevent so-called economic disruptions. If anything, government intervention would make these disruptions much worse. Again, a better alternative is to let the market do the job. The market’s ability to make swift adjustments without much drama was vividly illustrated only a few weeks ago when the very large investment bank, Lehman Brothers, was allowed to go belly up. The world did not come to an end. Instead, this was a healthy development. A money loser was eliminated from the market. This freed up resources to promote growth.”

The only statesman left in Washington, D.C., Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas), has been preaching a similar message to deaf ears for many years. For that, the mainstream media and elite “economists” have labeled him a crackpot and worked overtime to marginalize him, even as his warnings have proven true.

To the Obama haters, the blame is not his alone. The problems began long before Obama entered the scene. Former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan had a lot to do with it. Bernanke has perpetuated it. President George W. Bush set much in motion. Obama doubled down. But the roots are much deeper, reaching to 1913 and perpetuated through the years.

What they’ve done is set in motion the collapse.

Bernanke and his advisers, Obama and his advisers, Representatives Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and their advisers are all cut from the same cloth. Is it any wonder that those who advocated the policies that brought us where we are say they don’t know what to do to fix it? To change course would be to admit their past lies.

Reality is far different. They know what to do but they’re saying what they need to say for public consumption. Meanwhile, the robber barons continue their work.

    Enough of your whining!

You put your wealth into green paper with an intrinsic value of ZERO — – what should you expect. Don’t blame others!

You fell for the enticement of green paper and you deserve EXACTLY what you are getting. Don’t blame the Federal Reserve Bank or Liberals or GOP – - it is ALL your own fault. Man up!!!

HANG all GOP and DEMO Traitors – Vote Ron Paul – buy silver and platinum – all GOLD will be confiscated.

  • Tom Key

This feature entitled “The Robber Barons” is one of the best and there is much to learn from the Comments. The “progressive liberal Republican” President Teddy Roosevelt dealt with the Robber Barons by “busting” their monopolies. The Government restored the Free Market and the equal playing field of competition. Money-grubbing is not really “conspiratorial” — it is simply human nature. As new forms of wealth appear, new predators rise up to seize it. Within our lifetimes, there is no question that by the 1980′s the largest source of wealth in the world was the American Middle Class. That wealth became the target of predators. They offered “credit” to consumers and to local and federal governments – luring all of us into what appeared to be prosperity, but which was actually built upon dramatically increased private and public debt. In that single decade of the 1980′s, America went from the largest Creditor nation in the world to the largest Debtor in the world.

    • DaveH

Before you can “bust” a monopoly, one has to exist. There has not been one example of a “monopoly” in this country except those that were created by Government. The only way a monopoly can exist is with the force of Government by its side:

    From the above article:

“This is a transfer of wealth by definition. This depreciating fiat is impoverishing all who hold dollar assets.”

This being said (and true, imho) let all who are aware and love their country reduce their standard of living to a bare bones minimum (yes – quit worrying about that credit card debt – starve the beast) and buy as much precious metal as they can, preparatory to survival of the coming chaos and re-building our country when the inept elites are forced from office. In the history of man, gold has NEVER been worth nothing, since it was first discovered 6000 years ago.

Hang ‘em high and VOTE RON PAUL, 2012!!!

    • Albino.

Question……. Why is gold worth anything? Do you need it to live?? Is your life worth an Oz of gold???

  • Tom Anderson

Everyone who has placed his 401K and other financial assets in DOLLAR DEMONOMINATED INSTRUMENTS ( like US Dollars ans US Stock Market ) deserves EVERYTHING he gets!!!

You were fools to place your trust in non-precious metal based financial instruments. NOW! Take it on the chin like a man and stop whining.

The MORE ENLIGHTENED individuals immediately jumped to precious metals when Nixon forced us to green paper wealth. You DESERVE what you are getting!

Word to the wise – get rid of your green paper as fast as possible and exchange it for Platinum and Silver.

    • Albino.

You can’t eat or drink “platinum and Silver”! Fresh water will be the end of man!

      • Tom Anderson

        Dear Albino,

How brilliant of you! You have figured out that man cannot eat or drink silver or platinum! Such an erudite fellow!

So, go ahead, eat green paper my friend.

Millions of mankind over thousands of years would disagree with you about the everlasting value of precious metals – but enjoy munching on your dollar bills~

      • Albino.

Tom Tom…… You go ahead and collect pounds of so called precious metals, but don’t come to me when your starving and thirsty, because unless you have some useful items to trade, you won’t be getting any food or water from me!

Trust me when I say I KNOW THE DOLLAR is useless, but at the same time so are your so called Precious metals…… The Mayans and Roman empires didn’t fall due to the lack of precious metals, they fell due to the lack of food and water!

Fresh water will be the the new gold, I hope you can collect it!! You can only survive 9 days without it at an average temp of 80F…

That’s like Satan saying: Gee, I had no idea my pitchfork would hurt anybody. I’ll shove it a little bit deeper and make things better.

This elite leadership has to go, all of them. If they have been in office and are running, vote them out. At an average take of 175K a year plus benefits they are way out of touch. Look at what they have given us . Wars all over the place, open borders to the same people we are at war with, gas at 4.00 per gallon (stealing our wealth)taxes on items like cigarettes that are incredible cash for clunkers that removed many good used cars off the market. This group has destroyed the American market place and is sending the average American down a rat hole.Look close at any candidates outside the 2 main parties for future leaders and make sure they are real to their convictions.

    • steve in AZ

      Sounds good, Joe, except-

We don’t get to clean the entire house at once, ever- just a room or two – and as the new crew who had to lie to get elected comes in, they are immediately infected by the ones who are still serving. It’s easy to corrupt one who lied to get elected – after all, didn’t they just experience that the ends justifies the means?

They are taught to not rock the boat – to get along (re-elected), they must go along with the instructions that are filtered down from the puppetmasters, and sign the bills they are told to sign, whether they have read them or not.

There are no easy answers, my friend, except to begin.

      VOTE RON PAUL 2012!!!

When anything in interest can become a reality show that will produce revenues for sponsors in this media driven society it is immediately televised nationwide. Just as the Roman citizens sat in the great coliseum and cheered as the lions tore apart the Christians the American citizens sat in front of their wide screen televisions and view their warriors on the battle fields and the trial of mothers who kill their own children. With all the problems this nation has and all the harmful results of government policies that have pushed our economy to the breaking point the people are drawn to the magnetism of the media to bypass their own reality. When the news was first blasted out about the failure of lending institutions, Banks and automobile companies it came out of the blue in a few weeks, but just two weeks before, everything was just fine said the media and the congress. All the early warnings from experts trying to alert the people were neatly buried in small columns in the back pages of newspapers and spun over by network television. Those who were in charge knew exactly what was going on and they scrambled to fill their pockets with cash in preparation to jump ships that was sure to sink. They failed to have lifeboats and life preservers for their passengers who were sure to drown. But alas” the chosen one appeared and saved them! They stayed onboard and kept the cash in their pockets but their passengers all drowned. The ships were a lot lighter and the Presidential suite was prepared for one big paying passenger, “The Government”. The same bad Captions were still at the helm but there was a (change) that took place. One passenger was now dictating the destination and the Caption is ordered to follow the course. This passenger who knows nothing about navigating the ocean is setting the same course that has produced shipwrecks around the world. Now the message is coming back to warn the people that there are no more handouts to be had without borrowing billions to cap the trillions of arrears to prolong a reality that no one wants to accept. The dominos are in line and it will only be one that will bring down the rest. There will be rioting in the streets led by those who never worked to produce a living. They will loot and destroy cities. The liberals will scream the loudest for a socialist government to save them and the conservatives will say nothing but organize nationwide to form a defense. There will be a move against conservatives but it will be defeated and the nation will regain the principals our forefathers had established to secure prosperity and freedom for our children. God help us!

Just maybe Bernanke should read Harry S Dent, who has been predicting this down trend based on demographic data, and his prediction that this will go on for another 12+ years. The Baby Boomers have reached the end of their peak earning and spending phase and have now entered into their saving and retirement phase. This isn’t going to change until the next great generation begins to reach their peak earning and spending years somewhere around 2020-2023. And, that’s just one of the cycles that are affecting the economy.

“Nationalizing of Banks”? If banks (banksters) weren’t the corrupt beasts that they are maybe we wouldn’t have had such a serious economic problem. Put the Federal Reserve in the mix and the whole works is toxic.

    • DaveH

      Eddie,
You can’t lump all banks into the same category. But we do need to abolish the Federal Reserve which is just the Lap Dog to Dictatorial Leaders.
Banks should operate in the Free Markets (as should all businesses) where the consumers determine who wins and who loses. Government’s only business in banking should be to enforce Fraud laws.

    • http://Moreexpensive,moreunknowproblems. Lewis Munn

Can we sell the Fed some ink loaded with carborundum, and wear all the presses out? Or with graphite, so the funny money is slippery also?

My friends, I am betting that most, if not all, of you are white. Have you not seen the predictions of your demise? African American ‘youth’ are practicing ‘kill whitey’ runs in Illinois and the east coast. We have been told that we are fast becoming a ‘minority’..WITHOUT ANY MINORITY STATUS, of course. The “real free trade” canard again. This is total BS and fantasy. This is just like empty headed lefty professors crying that “real communism” never was tried.

Get it through your head that the fairy tale world that Ricardo imagined could NEVER be realized as somebody will always game the system for themselves as long as you have international borders and a reason for one set of people to cheat to advantage themselves. We cheated when Britain was th free trader. Japan cheated and so does China.

It all goes back to the usurpation of the Constitution by the political followers of Alexander Hamilton.
Our only chance is to enlighten the citizens to the beauty of that original document and get us back to that ideal as envisioned by the Jeffersonians.
There are some small changes that would need to be made to make it harder for smooth talking lawyers to subvert it, such as eliminating the “General Welfare” phrase.
We need to get back to the condition where the Federal Government was subservient to the States, as it was intended to be over 200 years ago.
And we need to carry the concepts of Freedom to the State levels as well.

  • C130 Gunship

After the coming economic crash, all politicians and bankers current or retired need to be gathered up and locked up for life in ‘Pound Me In The Ass Prison’ and stripped of all their worldly possessions & wealth, up to and including their citizenship. Politicians are politicians because they either (a) are attracted to power, and/or (b) think that government is the solution, not the problem. Replacing one set with another is hardly a credible course of action. Politicians are little more than frustrated actors — too stupid for radio and too ugly for TV. Because of them we now live in a Totalitarian Democracy a system of government in which lawfully elected representatives maintain the integrity of a nation state whose citizens, while granted the right to vote, have little or no participation in the decision-making process of the government. We all understand that Government is the disease masquerading as the cure.

BenYankMe is a clueless idiot. Yes, the “granddaddy of all bubbles” will explode right in Fed Chairman’s face, a bubble that will then sink like a stiletto deep into the “heart of the monetary systems” across the world, proving something Nassim Taleb said about BenYankMe when Obama reappointed him in 2009, “he doesn’t even know he doesn’t understand how things work,” and that his methods make “homeopath and alternative healers look empirical and scientific.” When I see him on TV trying to explain his pathetic decisions he reminds me of the prophets of ancient Pompeii who reassured that Mt Vesuvius would never blow. After all, it never had before. We will never be free until the last Banker is strangled with the entrails of the last Politician.

    Bottom line: Wir sind gefickt.

““Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke told reporters Wednesday that the central bank had been caught off guard by recent signs of deterioration in the economy. And he said the troubles could continue into next year.”

Caught ‘off guard’? Seriously? ‘Recent signs’ of a deteriorating economy? Recently as in since 2007? The trouble could continue into next year? These are all symptoms of having imbeciles installed at the top levels of government management.

If Bernacke is being honest, then he is obviously in a position way over his head. Since the man has evidently never held a job in the private sector, let alone a management position where he had the responsibility to produce or get fired, he needs to learn that lesson immediately. FIRE HIM!…and get someone who HAS the experience of proper and good management (good grief that shouldn’t be too hard seeing how the fed and the government’s programs have closed so many good businesses with their insane policies over the last 8 years).

    • DaveH

The problem is that no organization can plan an economy. The people were sold a bill of goods in 1913. The Federal Reserve was established for one thing only, and that was to facilitate the Federal Government’s takeover of our Country.
It really doesn’t matter who’s in control of the Federal Reserve because an economy can’t be fixed by manipulating the supply of fiat dollars.
The inevitable result of Fed money creation is that the recipients of that created money have an advantage over the rest of us.

      • Dan az

        Dave
Its all part of the game.As they print more useless money they mortgage not only our land to china but our freedoms and liberty as well. The up coming wars in syria and Iran and yemen and pakistan are all going to take money.Where is this money going to come from?Yep IMF and who is putting us into those wars?Yep the UN.This may be the start of world war three and the dictator that ignores our constitution and is now being told what to do by the UN which is being told by the Bilderberg group, that we most bring in the rest of the noncompliance countries to conform to their wishes of the NWO or just Die!Our problems at home are nothing compared to the rest of the worlds nations only because we are their guard dogs and with out us they are nothing but a bunch of blue helmets that make good targets.

  • LEL MN

I wonder, could the deterioration in the economy have anything, anything at all, to do with the communist & chief’s plan to level the playing field, spread the wealth, and transform America? Could it be possible the radicals infestation in the White House, Federal agencies, courts, unions, and George Soro’s vast collection of radical organizations are actually working toward the collapse of America ?

    • http://Moreexpensive,moreunknowproblems. Lewis Munn

Impossible! Just ask any good Liberal Democrat.

They are from the Government and they are here to help…not us but themselves!

  • Jeepdriver 97

Somewhere, someone is laughing all the way to the bank. I almost admire them. They have spent years doing this to us. As the President of Sony once said “What do we consider the future – 250 years!”. Back in 1913, the seeds were planted (against the concerns of Thomas Jefferson and others) with the advent of the Fed. The ability to create money out of thin air and then charge interest on it was the most brilliant financial idea of the history of the world. I regret that I didn’t think of it. It’s so much easier than robbing banks or mugging old ladies. And it’s government approved! Ron Paul has been preaching this to us for years, but the powers that be had the LSM write him off to keep the public molified.

It’s coming, and only those in power will be better off after it happens.

Any fix that does not get rid of NAFTA won’t work.

You can say that for lots and lots of acronym organizations. But today kids learn catchy acronyms, rather than to check the goals of an organization.

  • TIME

    Bob,
A GREAT Blog, saddly I am sure many will miss the point of it all. That being said even if this blog is so clear that the blind can see the point, it exposes the “Symptoms” of a social network gone mad.

The Media explains the propaganda as thruth’s the sheep eat the seeds of the 30 second sound bite misinformation only to repeat this absurd rhetoric over and over all the while expanding this absurd behavior to make themselfs feel safe as well that all is well, even knowing in thier gut that something is very wrong.

How sad is it that what the Nazi’s did we all found appalling. Yet when directely in the center of a storm thats on far larger scale and rooted within the same frame work as the Nazi’s.
Let alone will have effects that will bring about the end to all Personal Libertys and Freedoms, yet these same sheep still refuse to see the forest from the tree’s.

    Has mankind any future?
    Can Mankind really be Free?
    Can mankind ever wake up?
Or will the need to sublimate what they need to feel always take top billing over exploring the TRUTH as to why, how, and whom?

The questions outweigh the answers TIME after TIME, thus leaving truth the odd man out of the equation.

maybe just maybe, man will finally realize that he cannot survive with the help and guidance of god.

      • Redneck

If our country would turn back to God, “The Father in Heaven” things might change for the better.

      • Ken

I absolutely agree. God is the only hope especially in situations where there is none!

History repeats itself again and again…first Rome, then Germany. I believe that the only answer is going to be to have another 1776 declaration of independence from the tyranical government we now have. How in the world did we allow 545 people to destroy our country? However, I believe that we could start renovations by eliminating every senator and congressman who has been in office before 2010 and certainly the ineligible POTUS.

      • DaveH

Here are a couple of organizations that are seeking such solutions:

And there is one, only one, Independent College that educates students to think, and is not constrained, yet, by the government. It is small, and independent, and has a small free Magazine espousing free enterprise politics and explains what is going on in our nation.

        Check out “Imprimis”.

      • DaveH

This Zogby poll shows how effective the Central Planners have been in their brainwashing:
        http://middleburyinstitute.org/zogbysecessionpoll2008.html

Before 1860, it was commonly accepted that the States had a right to self-determination (secession) if they were so inclined. After all, they had fought a bloody revolution to exercise that very right to get out from under the King’s thumb. Then along came the Republican Party with their Hamiltonian ideas of Big Central Government, Mercantilism, and Empire Building. The rest is history. The Civil War established the Dominance of the Federal Government over the previously sovereign states.
From then on, thanks largely to the institution of Public Schools, the generations were progressively propagandized to believe in more and more power for the Federal Government.

      • DaveH

The best way out of this mess is for people to educate themselves in the concepts of Freedom. The Internet is a wonderful place for that education, so the Controllers will be doing everything they can to stifle it. Perhaps a collection of Freedom oriented books will protect against that eventuality. Here is just one:
        http://www.amazon.com/Declaration-Independents-Libertarian-Politics-America/dp/1586489380/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309183252&sr=8-1

Reading between the lines, all is proceeding according to the NWO master plan.

And for those naive lever pullers waiting to cast a ballot in 2012, one person’s vote has become as insignificant as a flatulent toot in a wind storm in this age of rampant election fraud and predetermined winner’s and losers. (Is Romney being set up to take a dive as Mc Cain did?)

Words to live by: Prepare, gather around family and get off the grid.

    • DaveH

Of course Romney is. The MSM is working their magic as usual. They want the most Big-Government-loving Liberal Republican to win the primary, then they will focus their energies on getting the Democrat elected. And so do the Establishment Republicans.
That’s why mainstream Republicans are wasting their energy sticking with the Republican Party. The Establishment Republicans want to run our lives every bit as much as do the Democrats. They just have a different agenda (Empire Building, the useless Drug Wars, Vice laws) to grow their Government.
We need to get these people out of our Marketplace and out of our personal choices. Government’s only function should be to protect us from the force of others. They certainly have no business protecting us from ourselves.
What a choice. The Democrats want to take our money, and the Republicans want to dictate how we spend it.

    • http://Moreexpensive,moreunknowproblems. Lewis Munn

Don’t vote on a electronic machine that has been freshly “fixed” by a Union Electrician!

      The “Fix” will be in!!

      • Kate8

Lewis Munn – Even paper ballots somehow manage to get lost. Or else, in case the desired democrat still doesn’t win, a few boxes of somehow “lost” ballots suddenly shows up, all surprisingly marked for him!

      • http://Moreexpensive,moreunknowproblems. Lewis Munn

        Yup, I know.

I had a close relative running on a minority good government party, and all those and more were done. He was lucky if 1 in 100 votes for him got counted!

But when you don’t vote, your opinion is definitely lost. And your right to protest is lost too.

But I would rather vote and have the evil folks toss it, than not vote at all and save them the trouble!

  • DaveH

And so, we have the age old problem. How do you tell the truth to people who don’t want to hear it?

    • home boy

better yet, how do you get people who are habitual liars to tell the truth for once in their lif

      • DaveH

Only a Liberal could make such an ignorant statement.

      • NancyJ

        You sure have that right.

I suggest Mr.Bernake contact the Hillsdale College bookstore and buy the set of books by Von Mises. He was the real expert on economics.

Bernake has been taught the Progressive line by Progressive professors who have never done anything but go to school and be taught by (guess who???) Progressives.

      • Dan az

So what is it that benny will do?QE3 possibly but we all know where that money went.Once the Fed sets an “explicit inflation target”, then (if the CPI is below the target and rates are already at zero, as they are today) the Fed can buy as many bonds as they please until their goal is reached. If that sounds a lot like Quantitative Easing; it’s because it’s the same thing. (Although this time it will probably involve rate caps on medium-term Treasuries) Is that what Bernanke is doing; announcing a third round of his controversial bond purchasing program without using the same name?

It sure looks like it. In fact, any mention today of “inflation targeting” at today’s FOMC meeting should be taken as a sign that Bernanke is planning another bond buying binge, despite the fact that the only people who really benefited from the program have been investors who’ve seen stock prices skyrocket from the money that’s shifted out of bonds into equities. All the gains from QE2 went to Wall Street.

As for inflation targeting, Bernanke is not just an advocate of the policy, he’s its biggest booster. He’s even written a book on the topic titled “Inflation Targeting: Lessons from the International Experience” with co-authors Thomas Laubach, Frederic S. Mishkin, and Adam S. Posen in 2001. There’s every reason to suspect that the neoliberal credo that Bernanke espouses in his book helped shoehorn him into the top-spot at the Central Bank. It certainly had nothing to do with his abyssal track record.

      • commonsense

absolutely! i don’t think the Obama administration can plead ignorance on what would fire up the economy, it’s just beyond their ideological dogmatic stubbornness to accept and enact.

      • woodpecker

So you crazy right-winger is trashing progressivism? Look at where the country is now without so much of past progressivism that was put in place right after the Great Depress? Of course, you right-wing clowns did not benefit at all when progressive policies led to the great middle class in the world. You stupid right-wingers should commit suicide before some people do it for you!

      • bob wire

“Only a Liberal could make such an ignorant statement.” If you are sure about that Dave, you are just the guy I’ve been looking for. Have I got a deal for you!

It was projected and forecast 10 months ago that the end effects of the stimulus money focus at the state level would start drying up mid summer of 2011.

This gave these states is a serious bind almost a year and a half to put their house in order.

But? yea? It’s downhill from here unless the “private sector” decides to jump in and create jobs and wealth from all the money they have been receiving in Tax Breaks since 2007. If I understand correctly, that was what it was suppose to do and what we were “promised”

I wouldn’t encourage anyone to hold their breath.

      • Jay

Hogwash bob wire, the waco-commander-in-thief needs to take his grubby paws and his idiotic legislation out of our industry. Until we get this idiot out of office you can forget the private sector that has to jump through ridiculous set of hoops in order to make a buck! The stimulus package the moron pushed through didn’t work? Surprise surprise, are you? Get the moron and his team of socialist nitwits out of the White House and out of our lives and watch the economy grow. Until then, its not gonna happen. Private sector? Give me a break!

      • bob wire

Hmm? Well if that what it takes to turn things around Jay, so be it.

But I feel this attitude you reflect is indicative of the feeling of many as early as December of 2008 before “O” even swore in and not really because of anything that he has done.

You can’t blame “O” for the article presented below

2008 Worst year for jobs since ’45
Annual loss biggest since end of World War II. Unemployment rate rises to 7.2%.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — The hemorrhaging of American jobs accelerated at a record pace at the end of 2008, bringing the year’s total job losses to 2.6 million or the highest level in more than six decades.
A sobering U.S. Labor Department jobs report Friday showed the economy lost 524,000 jobs in December and 1.9 million in the year’s final four months, after the credit crisis began in September.
The unemployment rate rose to 7.2% last month from 6.7% in November – its highest rate since January 1993.
The steep annual drop in jobs marked the highest yearly job-loss total since 1945, the year in which World War II ended.”

So I suppose you can try to make the argument it was something that “O” did, but it truth it’s been more of a matter of peoples reaction to “O” taking on the 1st chair position and things were headed south in the years run up to election time.

So you are blaming “O” for peoples reaction to him.

I found my woman of 8 years out whore dogging one night and dropped kicked her across the parking lot. I got some bad press over it.

The judge explained it to me this way ~ it is “YOU” that is accountable for your own reactions and no one else. That she might have be seen as acting poorly did not justify self defeating reactions on my part.

and so it is ~ how people react is up to them and it is they that must stand in account. Now I know you don’t want to hear that ~ I sure didn’t like what the Judge told me, as I felt justified with me reactions. I accepted it and I learned something.

To see this any other way ~ is just deferred of guilt and liability that seem to be far too common on a rampaging in America today as people hide behind the curtain of Cooperate America where not one person is responsible for anything and we seem to find comfort in pointing our finger at others while claiming to be innocent bystander to a train wreck. I was forced to react! ~ no you wasn’t, you just “wanted to react” to protest!

I will admit at this point, America is not ready from a black president. But that only shows a lacking in America and offers no reflection on the man Obama.

I wish McCain had have been a stronger contender where more people might have voted for him.

If you don’t approve of “O” offer us a worthy option for consideration.

To date, the options are looking rather bleak, so who’s job is it to do offer us a better candidate.

It’s mine and yours ~ so let’s get serious for a change ~ What’s your preference? Brown, green, blue, yellow or white?

      • Kate8

bw – All of the damage O is doing to this country, and the best you can do is go off on the racist thing.

I don’t know why, but I expected better from you. In spite of the obvious (that you are nipping at the bottle), you seem to have a smattering of sense some of the time.

If O suddenly shed his skin and became white, he wouldn’t gain a single supporter among those who love America. Evil is as evil does.

      • Dan az

        kate
I agree can you just imagine if he was white?

Nice try bob wire, obviously it would be unfair and idiotic to suggest that O is responsible for the state of affairs prior to his appointment, obviously he is not. Yet at the same time you conveniently and purposely, no doubt, failed to mention how mr.O, since his appointment, quadrupled the debt load of the country, placed unreasonable shackles on our economy and included us in three wars! Why did you not mention that?

You stated:I found my woman of 8 years out whore dogging one night and dropped kicked her across the parking lot. I got some bad press over it.

The judge explained it to me this way ~ it is “YOU” that is accountable for your own reactions and no one else. That she might have be seen as acting poorly did not justify self defeating reactions on my part.

I was forced to react! ~ no you wasn’t, you just “wanted to react” to protest!

First of all, I wouldn’t necessarily be making your above behaviour, irrespective that you are using it to make a point, public. As you know, assault, for whatever reason, except in self-defence, is against the law, and men, who cannot control themselves with respect to women, for whatever reason, are not to be trusted. Your woman was obviously not happy with what she had at home and decided to look elsewhere. I’m sorry for your loss but that was no reason to drop-kick her, as you stated.

You also stated, To see this any other way ~ is just deferred of guilt and liability that seem to be far too common on a rampaging in America today as people hide behind the curtain of Cooperate America where not one person is responsible for anything and we seem to find comfort in pointing our finger at others while claiming to be innocent bystander to a train wreck. I was forced to react! ~ no you wasn’t, you just “wanted to react” to protest!

What are you trying to say here, that Obama should be absolved of all responsibility with, as you say, a possible, and know doubt, likely, unless we stop this madman, train wreck? A casual investigation into Obama’s activity since his appointment should reveal, and in no uncertain terms, Obama’s treacherous and treasonous policies that are beyond the pale. It seems to me, that the so-called innocent bystanders, as you call them, are trying desperately, to prevent a train wreck!

You also stated: I will admit at this point, America is not ready from a black president. But that only shows a lacking in America and offers no reflection on the man Obama.

Ah yes, the race card. Sooner or later, when the objections to O’s policies that are having a serious and detrimental effect on our country reaches unacceptable levels to Obama supporters, gets played. Really? America is not yet ready for a black president? It shows a lacking in America? Now this, your statement, says more about you then you may realize. Here, let me help you. What you are really saying, is that, anyone who is critical of the President, Obama, is critical, not because of his policies, but because of his race. Conversely, what you are also saying, is that, all who approve and support Obama, do so, not because of his policies, but because of his race. BTW, there are people of many ethnicities, who are opposed to Obama, including blacks, and criticize Obama, who comprise the group that is dissatisfied with Obama. Pray-tell then, how do you justify your accusation that all who oppose or criticize Obama are racist’s? Do you then charge all who support Obama as being racist’s as well? Unfortunately, this one backfired on you, bob wire.

You also stated: If you don’t approve of “O” offer us a worthy option for consideration.

To date, the options are looking rather bleak, so who’s job is it to do offer us a better candidate.

It’s mine and yours ~ so let’s get serious for a change ~ What’s your preference? Brown, green, blue, yellow or white?

I have stated my recommendations on several occasions; Clean the whole house entirely, get rid of both, left and right, conservatives and democrats alike, introduce a new party, libertarian perhaps, but more importantly, let’s elect honesty, integrity, accountability and visionaries who are not tied to and lap-dogs of big interest groups, namely, corporations, UN, IMF, FDR, ect…

        What’s your recommendation?

It’s a great start… to also include ending progressive gov organizations that get funding from congress like: EPA, IRS, FDA, FCC, NEA, ACORN, NPR, PBS, Planned Parenthood… on and on the list goes… so sad to think there are so many getting our Tax Payers money to take down our country.

The proverbial lie test for attorneys, is to notice whether or not their lips are moving. Extrapolate from that the fact that most politicians are former lawyers and a clear picture begins to formulate. Say, aren’t both Barack and Michelle former attorneys? Hmmm…

    • Dan az

I can see how benny boy couldn’t see what he and his crime bosses where doing,Really not everyone is that smart. When you have these kind of things smacking you in the face.
      * S.510 fake food safety bill will destroy independent agriculture and export most of our food product out of the country. (our food)
      * The CLEAR act takes our water, minerals, mining and land ( water & raw materials) Now slated for implementation by EPA. There goes your right to clean affordable, water.
      * Cap & Trade sells the rights to pollute for a fee (our air) EPA Again! That would be the air you breathe.
      * Obamacare takes away our 4th Amendment rights to be secure in our persons and our privacy. There goes your personal freedom.
      * 22 million are jobless ( and this number is rising)
      * 47 million families are on food stamps (also rising)
      * Food prices have risen 70% in less than a year.
      * Foreclosures are at an historical high (and rising)
      * Of the bills mentioned, each includes a prohibition on judicial revue: meaning the agencies which will now be aggressively assaulting private citizens cannot be taken into court.
      * SB 1619 The Livable Communities Act will resurface and be sold as “the future” of America…..the only way they can keep us safe.
See there is know way this could give you a clue.It just snuck up on them over night.Thirty years Ron Paul has been fighting this and they call him crazy! To bad we didn’t have more of him.

If somebody purposefully wanted to ruin a country, they’d have a hard time finding a better way to do it, right? So, IS this a Planned ruining of the country? Bush touted the need for a New World Order and so does George Soros, the power behing Obama. The USA is the main power keeping a World Power from taking over.

I think this is all PLANNED!

Exactly even georgy isn’t well liked because he kept bring up the fact that there was a NWO and pissed them off.And now Obumer is on his $hit list because he is not following what he wants of him.The teflon don is looking to joining the ranks of the UN to better his position in the up coming NWO.And billary is trying out for the IMF position.Ya I think were at the end of this rope.

        Agreed.

But you forgot the Press has played a very big role in keeping folks like Mr. Paul sidelined, posting much negative about independents and 3rd parties and how the only right way was the two-headed DemoPublican way to go.

Your choice was to be sat on by the elephant, or kicked in the slats and other places by the donkey.

So we are led to where we are now, and the voices that cry out are still kept by the Press in the depths of the wilderness.

Is there a solution short of letting the catastrophe happen? Now that education is completely dumbed down, and politicians are bought and sold daily?

      • Carlucci

I was watching John Stossel this past weekend. He had some guests on there who were talking about the results of recent polls where a huge percentage of Americans are now identifying their political views as “independent”. They are no longer considering themselves to be democraps or repulsivecans.

While it is difficult if not impossible to say that Bullsh** Barack has done anything good while in office, the very fact that he and the rest of the federal mafia are creating so much destruction
has people finally waking up, which is a good thing.

I think we have a huge problem with misinformation. Most people are so busy working and trying to get by that they don’t have time to dig for the facts/truth. They watch the news and blindly believe it. We have the same problem with our health system based on pharmaceuticals where everyone believes a pill will cure their problems. All the doctors who try to expose the truth are labeled as crazies/fools. Obama doesn’t want to cut spending, but rather increase spending to encourage economic growth. We all know this failed with the near-trillion dollar stimulus, but people will believe him since his plan will be pushed on all major media outlets, as propaganda always is. Unless people start thinking & reasoning by themselves, we’re doomed.

      • Bob Marshall

All anyone has to do is read the socialist doctrine to see where this country is headed.

I get really upset about the ‘flu shots I have to get to travel overseas, and I need to now and then. It is still mandated for an epidemic that never happened, and our government supports the injections of poisonous and mind-disabling mercury, where Vitamin C is more effective against flue virus, and not poisonous.

But the press pushes the expensive shots.

And suppresses the use of Vitamin C against viruses!

You hit the nail on the head, Ellen. The parasite PTB have distracted the American people for many decades with t.v./lame stream media “news”.
Now the all powerful pharmaceutical industry, in cahoots with the federal mafia has turned so many Americans into zombies with anti-depressants, cholesterol “medications”, vaccinations, etc. If you try to explain this to the every day citizen, you will most likely get that “deer in the headlights” stare.

And fluoride, don’t forget fluoride to keep the sheep docile as was done in WWII to POWs.

Bleh – Another thing that fluoride does is weaken the blood-brain barrier.

This barrier is there to insure toxins and pathogens cannot invade the brain, which was given ingenious extra protection. When that barrier is breached, we are left vulnerable to any number of damaging substances.

Fluoride is a perfect bioweapon, not only for dumbing us down and keeping us docile, but for setting us up for future plague and pestilence.

I have a feeling that vaccines are yet another aspect of this multi-faceted, diabolical plan.

        Ellen
I wish more women and men knew what you know. America would not be in this situation if more people were informed.
Keep up the good work and try to “Educate” as many good folk that will listen.
God Bless America, and those who fight for her!!!!

You can only present it as often as possibly where they have to actively shut it out. And in this day of liberal media, that is difficult to do.

It is too bad that their shut ears have to affect all of us adversely.

But part of the problem is that we vote repeatedly for those who tell us calming lies, and forget to vote them out when they are discovered! People who are not working on the solution are part of the problem.
