Take A Cruze

June 8, 2011 by

Take A Cruze

The falling dollar and President Barack Obama’s foolish energy policies — restricting domestic oil drilling both on shore and off and using the tax code to drive his “green” agenda — have forced up the price of a gallon of gas.

Higher gas prices — up 52 percent over the past 20 months, according to the National Inflation Association — are costing families a couple of hundred dollars more each month. That’s not what people need in these difficult economic times.

But higher gas prices are the goal of the fascist elites, who believe they have a better idea than you of how you should live your life.

General Motors Co. CEO Dan Akerson told The Detroit News Monday that Federal gas taxes should be increased as much as $1 per gallon to push people toward more fuel-efficient cars. That’s a call Akerson’s predecessor, Rick Wagoner, made in 2009. Ford Motor Co. Chairman Bill Ford Jr. has also advocated for a gas tax increase.

“People will start buying more Cruzes and they will start buying less (sic) Suburbans,” Akerson told The News.

Of course, you won’t find Akerson, Wagoner or Ford tooling around town in small, fuel-efficient cars. Nor will you find many members of Congress driving Cruzes or Focuses. But they are not ashamed to set fuel-efficiency standards increasingly — maybe even unrealistically — high. For the years 2017 to 2025, Federal officials are considering 3 percent to 6 percent annual fuel-efficiency increases, or 47 mpg to 62 mpg, according to The News. Those standards will increase the cost of vehicles by about $3,500 each. Higher fuel standards have also led to the needless deaths of thousands of people as automakers have sought lighter materials to increase efficiency.

And just think: Akerson, who took over GM on Sept. 1, is telling you he wants you to pay more taxes while he gets paid from the $49.5 billion the government used to bail out his failed company. For four months’ work in 2010, Akerson was paid $2.53 million — $556,667 in salary, $1.8 million in stock awards and $194,088 for serving on the company’s board for a full year — as part of a $9 million compensation package that includes an annual $1.7 million in cash, $5.3 million in salary stock delivered over three years starting on Sept. 30, 2011, as well as $2 million in restricted stock, according to news reports.

Of course, this is nothing new. Government has long used its power to force its agenda on people. Whether it’s tax subsidies for failed fuel additives like ethanol, subsidies to farmers to grow — or not grow — certain crops or livestock, tax incentives to drive people into certain behaviors or laws banning light bulbs or dictating the amount of water toilets use, government has injected itself into every aspect of our lives.

The result: inflation, rising prices, higher unemployment, a growing empire and a shrinking middle class. Meanwhile, the elites are fat and happy… and looking for more ways to stick it to you.

    Jan,

I seriously doubt if most people here are voting along party lines. From what I can tell, many of these people are voting based on individual candidates. I, for one, vote based on the issues and who is funding what…I always try to follow the money and see what hidden agendas may be behind seemingly “good” ideas that violate the Constitution. For example, no one wants bad guys killing innocent people..except for the bad guys. However, taking my guns is not going to prevent one bad guy from killing. It will empower the bad guys. EVERYTHING has to go through the filter of the Constitution and no, it is NOT a living, breathing document that changes to adapt to the whims of the current elite. One last thing, I have strong libertarian views, but I believe the Constitution Party has a better understanding of the Constitution. I would encourage everyone to check out their website and platform. Just so no one misunderstands, I would not blindly vote for someone just because they ran on any party ticket. I think we all need to look at the individual..what does he support? Who is funding him? Does he have experience? That question alone would have made people realize Obama should not have even been in the running.

    • 45caliber

And I think Oblama’s only real experience since winning is playing golf, shopping with his wife, and travelling all over the world on taxpayer dollars on Air Force 1.

      • Alex

Oh, and overseeing the death of Osama bin Laden, which Bush could NOT do, so he sent 5000 of YOUR children to their deaths in Iraq, which had NOTHING to do with 911. And passing much-needed health reform that most Amerikans support—the ones who do not are the ones who, orchestrated by the Teabaggers, disrupted every town hall meeting set to EXPLAIN (word you people do not really know) to new policies.

Yeah, Obama has been a large disappointment, but he has done a number of things right. It is just that the GOP—WHOSE ONLY AVOWED INTEREST WAS TO DESTRY OBAMA—filibustered or otherwise delibertly gunked up every move toward progress. Look, since the Reich Wing has no one to beat Obama next year, he seems a shoe-in—hey, you weirdos lost millions of votes by messing with the wildly-popular Medicare and Social Security!! How dumb a move was THAT?!? You Fright Wingers really shot yourselves in the feet—wait, let’s “conservatize” it—you shot your best friend in the face!! HA!!!

      • JC

        Frothing at the mouth insane…

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Alex,
Yeah, he’s a shoo in!! That’s why a poll out yesterday said 49% would vote for somebody else, even a not named person!!! Only 43% of the people said they would still vote for him. what with this being the fifth straight week the economy has dropped, 420,000 new claims for unemployment, another week of high gas prices, 20% increase in prices for everything from hardware to food, those numbers can only get WORSE for him!!!!

  • Jan Scallan

Karolyn, I think most of the “natural” gas comes from Washington DC and we have plenty of it. However, the oil in North America the commercial is talking about comes from the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico and Canada. We all know how stable Mexico is and how we are such good friends. Why they’d do anything for their good buddies in Norte America….Canada’s oil is locked up in the oil sands and China is doing everything they can to latch onto that oil since the US really doesn’t support or encourage oil from Oil Sand, Oil Shale or CTL (Liquid Coal Fuel). Our loving government has voted against allowing a pipeline to be built from the oil sands to the US refineries. We have an abundance of resources available to us between the US and Canada that oil could never be used as a weapon against us by the Arabs. Is it the oil companies, the government or investors that make us so reliant upon foreign oil? Maybe ALL of the above would be a more appropriate answer. Would a Republican in office correct that? Not bloody likely but neither has the democrats. So who can you trust? I have become such a pessimist that I think we are way too far down that old dusty road to turn around. All we can do is hang on for the ride and protect ourselves from as much harm as possible.

  • Thinking About

If the liebertians had a great sale to the American citizens and any notion of running a country then it would be liebertians in office. Taking over a weak Republican party has been their only claim to fame. Hope this has brought happiness to all.

    • DaveH

You mean Libertarians? Or was that misspelling just an attempted slur?
Very few people know what our agenda is. The leaders don’t want Libertarians in Government because they like their power and perks. We would change that.
For moral people who believe in Freedom, there really is no other choice. We believe that people have a natural right to control their own bodies and property. With Libertarians as Leaders you would be free to make your own mistakes, but you wouldn’t be free to make others pay for those mistakes. You would be free to practice your religion, but you wouldn’t be free to force that religion on others. So, for example, we wouldn’t let Liberals force their religion of Liberalism on others.

      • Thinking About

You state what liebertians want but not a plan to get the those things started. Also, realize you must get voted into offices and convince super majority to go along with you. Saying is not a fix.

      • JC

        You miss the point.
        We’re Constitutionalists.
What exactly is it you want us to start?

  • karolyn

I keep seeing that ad on TV about 2/3 of our oil and natural gas coming from North America. So why the worries over the mideast? Here’s the link to the site for the oil and natural gas industry.
    http://energytomorrow.org/

    • 45caliber

      karolyn:

It mostly comes from Mexico and Canada. The enviromentalists want the Canadian source shut down because it comes from tar sands. Mexico could easily pay for everything they need if the money for their oil didn’t all go to whoever their President appoints to head up their oil department there. A good part comes from Saudi and Veneszualia (can’t spell) too. So we pay Chevez to tell the world how terrible we are. Alaskan oil goes to Japan to be refined and they keep most of it.

      • DaveH

        45,
I downloaded Google Chrome (browser) and it spell-checks as you type. It’s easy to learn also.

    • chuckb

karolyn, we have reserves of crude within the boundaries of the u.s. to last this nation for two hundred years, we have an infinite supply of natural gas. the oil companies regulate the supply of natural gas and the price accordingly. the environmentalist are on the payroll of the oil companies. so figure it out yourself.
oil companies are in the business to make money and in doing so they are more concerned with their stockholders than they are the consumer since we are at their mercy.

  • chuckb

we can stop opec, vote barry and his cohorts out of wash. dc. giving barry credit for all that is happening is foolish, this guy is nothing but a complete fraud and operates on strings. the people pulling those strings are the ones to fear, they are the ones pushing the hc bill and the green energy crap, do you think barry has a clue about green energy, not! he is paid to make speeches prepared for him and read thru the teleprompter, the only thing he has going for him is his voice, of course that’s all it takes to fool most people. he and michele tout the party line and get a vacation every other week when not on the golf course. does barry know we have huge reserves of crude? no and i doubt he even cares, the oil companies love him as well as the big investors like soros, also the commodities market will probably finance his next election. we can change all this by removing these crooks from the white house and start using our own oil and tell the oil companies and their foreign partners in the arabian continent are no longer running our country. break up the oil monopoly and put competition back in the oil market, we will be free from the world bankers and our country wiull prosper.

once crude was placed on the commodities market and the drilling was shut down our economy has taken a nose dive. the oil companies and investors won, they controlled the economy by keeping us under the thumb of opec. the liberals rode their gravy train and we got derailed.

  • Jan Scallan

I heard on the news last night that the Obama administration had increased the government limo fleet by 73% or so. Yeah, they are REALLY concerned about saving energy. You know I am really sick of ALL of these arrogant self-centered politicians regardless of their political party and you political hacks that adhere to your party lines. YOU are the reason the country is in the mess it’s in because YOU keep voting the slime-balls back into office year after year. The situation will not change until YOU change.

Some people are using methane from farm sources to generate power. I don’t think we need to “eliminate” methane ( pun intended) when we can find good uses for it. On our farm, we highly value all the animal output! We don’t have to buy any commercial/chemical fertilizers because we rely on our farm animals to fertilize for us. We pasture chickens and have them do the work for us. They are great at spreading manure…wait! That reminds me of some in Gov’t!

    • Dan az

      Elevenarrows
If we could tap the methane coming from DC we would stop all foreign oil.Only problem is were paying to much for it already.

      • 45caliber

        Dan:

I dont’ know about methane from Washington but there is certainly enough hot air!

  • Dad

.The propagandists try to keep everyone focused on cars as the greatest polluter, which is just not the case. Even the so-called experts, who were “cooking the books” for years (the government lackeys and lap-dog scientists) have finally conceded that CO2 is not a cause… more and more Americans knew that this was really a stupid argument. The pinko propaganda really depends on illiteracy to survive. According to our neophyte prez, if you can’t afford $4 gas, go by a $40,000 car… no money? Up you credit card limit to…. should there be a limit? How about infinity, like the Dems envision our federal debt?

Methane gas is more of a problem than CO2. We can start on the solution by becoming a vegetarian nation. You first

    • 45caliber

If everyone was forced to become a vegetarian, there wouldn’t be enough food to feed everyone. They sort of forget that part. And doesn’t most methane come from herbavores instead of carnivores?

      • http://?? Joe H.

        45caliber,
Remember to not eat BEANS!!! That is methane as well!!!! Stupid cattle been f@rting for centuries and NOW all of a sudden it’s a problem!!! What a crock!!!

    Jukebox–
We own a small business. We are living on 1/3 our usual income due to the downturn in the economy which I blame on Obama, Congress and even Bush. We have no idea how we will pay taxes this year because every extra penny has gone to fuel and liability insurances. The reality for our family (and I assume, most families) is that clothing, shoes, medical, dental, etc. is waaaaay down on the list of “can do”. We are relying on hand-me-downs for our large family, growing our own produce and meat, not traveling, not going to movies, not buying many treats, doing our own hair cuts….all so Obama can spread our “wealth” around to whoever he deems worthy…Islamic mosques, foreign aid, Planned Parenthood, etc. It sure doesn’t feel much like the land of the free to my family….I’m hoping and praying there are still enough of the “brave” to prevent another four years of this.

    • 45caliber

      I agree completely.

  • Elevenarrows

    Ellen,

I completely agree. I also firmly believe that until Americans realize that their schools have been hijacked by progressives promoting social agendas not at all concerned about actual academics, we will continue to have cookie-cutter, global-community minded graduates. The government schools have been highly successful in promoting everything but education. These are the people who are putting people in office. These are future leaders in our country. It is frightful. We now have people who can stand by and watch our freedoms destroyed as our Constitution (which they nothing about) is trumped by every bizarre, anti-American, anti-God social agenda depraved people can possibly promote. Throughout history, nations have been brought low through the “education” of the youth. Probably the most recognized example would be the Hitler Youth movement. It is no mistake that our youth have been taught to accept mediocrity and handouts. It makes for a much more easily controlled populace. I can’t do much to turn the tide, but I determined to keep my children out of the clutches of the gov’t schools and thankfully, as a result of great personal sacrifice on the part of my husband and myself, we have children that can think for themselves, study the issues, research candidates and vote according to the dictates and limitations of the Constitution. Until more parents are willing to go to great lengths to abandon the gov’t system of education, we will produce very few children strong enough to overcome the enormous load of indoctrination.

  • JUKEBOX

I wish that the $200 per month figure was a reality, because it costs me more than that in gas alone. Everything we consume is affected by the cost of oil, ie: groceries, clothes, utilities, etc.
The cost of government is exacerbated by the increase of 73% in the amount of government limos, the increase in the number of government employees and the decrease in capitalistic employees, the expansive, luxurious world traveling lifestyle of the President and the salacious lifestyle of members of Congress like Anthony Weiner.
Until things like this are turned around, we will continue our downward spiral and decline of the economy. My simple lifestyle is costing me about 40% a month, and my income is down about 40% since Obama took office. Those factors combine to increase my cost of living by about 100%. How’s Obama’s administration working for YOU?

  • Raggs

You guys need to remember that the democommies want to tax every mile that you drive also….

A device placed on your car that sends the mileage to the IRS…
Like HELL they will put one on my car!

    • 45caliber

Their device is called a GPS and most new cars already come with it. It simply transmits your milage to a receiver beside the road as you drive be and they send you a bill each month for the tax.

  • Elevenarrows

LOL! I’m going to have to print that and share…the horror of it all, though, is that most people don’t even understand or care what the Democratic party is all about. I just taught the history of the Democratic party to my kids this year in school. They were shocked to discover that it was the jumping off point for the KKK. It amazes me that so many black Americans vote for a party that has such offensive history towards blacks. I also wonder why so many blacks vote for a party that supports abortion when the vast majority of babies aborted are black. Margaret Sanger made no secret of the fact that she wanted “family-planning” centers placed primarily in poor, black communities so inferior beings (her opinion, not mine) could be wiped out faster and more efficiently. Planned Parenthood (an odd name since their goal is NO parenthood) is almost single-handedly wiping out blacks and they are the very ones demanding through their Democratic Party that we fund their demise. This is a colossal ignorance and unfortunately, it put Obama in office. If brave, patriotic black Americans would stand up and fight for the preservation of their race they could not do it through the Democratic party.

    • Ellen

This is so true. We can also add the damage welfare has done to the black community. Their lives have been degraded and set on a course of repeating the welfare cycle. Martin Luther King is rolling over in his grave. He gave his life fighting for civil rights and is paid back by today’s blacks choosing a life of welfare, crime, illegitimatacy, dropping out of school, etc.

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT: Overwhelm the system
Barack Obama is no fool. He is not incompetent. To the contrary, he is brilliant. He knows exactly what he’s doing. He is purposely overwhelming the U.S. economy to create systemic failure, economic crisis and social chaos — thereby destroying capitalism and our country from within. Barack Obama is my college classmate ( Columbia University , class of ’83). As Glenn Beck correctly predicted from day one, Obama is following the plan of Cloward & Piven, two professors at Columbia University . They outlined a plan to socialize America by overwhelming the system with government spending and entitlement demands. Add up the clues below.
Taken individually they’re alarming. Taken as a whole, it is a brilliant, Machiavellian game plan to turn the United States into a socialist/Marxist state with a permanent majority that desperately needs government for survival … and can be counted on to always vote for bigger government. Why not? They have no responsibility to pay for it.

    – Universal health care. The health care bill had very little to do with health care. It had everything to do with unionizing millions of hospital and health care workers, as well as adding 15,000 to 20,000 new IRS agents (who will join government employee unions). Obama doesn’t care that giving free health care to 30 million Americans will add trillions to the national debt. What he does care about is that it cements the dependence of those 30 million voters to Democrats and big government. Who but a socialist revolutionary would pass this reckless spending bill in the middle of a depression?

    – Cap and trade. Like health care legislation having nothing to do with health care, cap and trade has nothing to do with global warming. It has everything to do with redistribution of income, government control of the economy and a criminal payoff to Obama’s biggest contributors. Those powerful and wealthy unions and contributors (like GE, which owns NBC, MSNBC and CNBC) can then be counted on to support everything Obama wants. They will kick-back hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions to Obama and the Democratic Party to keep them in power. The bonus is that all the new taxes on Americans with bigger cars, bigger homes and businesses helps Obama “spread the wealth around.”

    – Make Puerto Rico a state. Why? Who’s asking for a 51st state? Who’s asking for millions of new welfare recipients and government entitlement addicts in the middle of a depression? Certainly not American taxpayers. But this has been Obama’s plan all along. His goal is to add two new Democrat senators, five Democrat congressman and a million loyal Democratic voters who are dependent on big government.

    – Legalize 12 million illegal immigrants. Just giving these 12 million potential new citizens free health care alone could overwhelm the system and bankrupt America . But it adds 12 million reliable new Democrat voters who can be counted on to support big government. Add another few trillion dollars in welfare, aid to dependent children, food stamps, free medical, education, tax credits for the poor, and eventually Social Security.

    – Stimulus and bailouts. Where did all that money go? It went to Democrat contributors, organizations (ACORN), and unions — including billions of dollars to save or create jobs of government employees across the country. It went to save GM and Chrysler so that their employees could keep paying union dues. It went to AIG so that Goldman Sachs could be bailed out (after giving Obama almost $1 million in contributions). A staggering $125 billion went to teachers (thereby protecting their union dues). All those public employees will vote loyally Democrat to protect their bloated salaries and pensions that are bankrupting America . The country goes broke, future generations face a bleak future, but Obama, the Democrat Party, government, and the unions grow more powerful. The ends justify the means.

    – Raise taxes on small business owners, high-income earners, and job creators. Put the entire burden on only the top 20 percent of taxpayers, redistribute the income, punish success, and reward those who did nothing to deserve it (except vote for Obama). Reagan wanted to dramatically cut taxes in order to starve the government. Obama wants to dramatically raise taxes to starve his political opposition.

With the acts outlined above, Obama and his regime have created a vast and rapidly expanding constituency of voters dependent on big government; a vast privileged class of public employees who work for big government; and a government dedicated to destroying capitalism and installing themselves as socialist rulers by overwhelming the system.

Add it up and you’ve got the perfect Marxist scheme — all devised by my Columbia University college classmate Barack Obama using the Cloward and Piven Plan.

    Reasons to Vote Democrat:

    By Ghost of John Brown

Can’t take credit – a buddy sent me this.

    1. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies’ profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn’t.
    2. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.
    3. I voted Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.
    4. I voted Democrat because I’m way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.
    5. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can’t tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don’t start driving a Prius.
    6. I voted Democrat because I’m not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.
    7. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits.
    8. I voted Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see fit.
    9. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.
    10. I voted Democrat because I think that it’s better to pay billions to people who hate us for their oil, but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle or gopher.
    11. I voted Democrat because while we live in the greatest, most wonderful country in the world, I was promised “HOPE AND CHANGE”.
    12. I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my backside I need a clear plastic belly button to see, and it’s unlikely that I’ll ever have another point of view.

And by the way, my dog is still a Democrat. If anything, he’s getting lazier and more demanding.

It is quite naive to think that raising gas prices will make people drive less or buy more fuel efficient cars. Does Obama think people will just sell their homes and move closer to work? If they could afford to live closer, they probably already would. What about construction workers whose jobs move around? And, construction workers need trucks for tools & equipment. Are they supposed to buy a Cruze? Our president and his advisors are a bunch of fools.

    • 45caliber

The real problem is that many of those people either don’t pay for their own fuel (Congressmen) or they don’t drive (using the local subway). Unfortunately the rest of us don’t have those choices.

I drive 36 miles one way to work each day. I suppose I could sell and buy a house closer – but it wouldn’t be much of a house in this real estate situation. And if I lost this job (as I have others in the past) I’d have to sell and move again. It is much easier to drive the various distances than it is to try to sell (at a loss) and move (at a loss).

      • Dan az

        45
And that’s the point. They need everyone in the cities to control the masses. Its much easier to surround a city than a country side.Built in prison with guards at every train and bus station and airport. With electric cars that cant run away.Well laid out plan I think.

  • Elevenarrows

It would be interesting to see if Congress would do ANYTHING to stop Obama’s destructive agendas if millions of Americans flooded Capitol Hill with emails and faxes demanding they exercise checks and balances. We own a small business and are having to make decisions like, “Do we buy diesel to keep the trucks on the road so we can make money or do we put shoes on the kids’ feet?” I’m sure I’m not alone and that the average American is sick of struggling to provide the most basic necessities for our families (I’m talking FOOD not vacations!)while morons in gov’t chastise us like children. It is offensive for Obama and his like to decide we all need to have ridiculously high energy costs so we will quit using energy. Do they prefer a return to the Dark Ages?! My family raises our own vegetables and grows our own meat. I use a clothesline to dry clothes. We only drive to places we really need to go to: church and the grocery store and of course, jobs. We are not using one tenth of the energy Obama uses. When I make estimated tax payments, I get downright bitter over sending more HARD-EARNED money to those thieves and knowing that those thousands of dollars would have paid for winter coats for the kids…food on the table…getting the septic tank pumped…these aren’t foolish expenditures which is more than I can say for ANY of the moneyj Congress is spending! You can’t even say they are doing defense spending right because Obama would rather push his social re-engineering agendas on our military than to let them fight an enemy…and of course, most times, we shouldn’t even be in the “fight” since no where does our Constitution say we are to defend our enemies and abandon our allies….I, for one, am fed up. I send emails. I send faxes. I make the phone calls. I go to the town hall meetings and speak. Nothing changes. I vote, but I must admit, I am losing faith in that, too. All Obama has to do in 2012 is stay half black and he’ll have that vote. He can keep catering to the Muslims and he’ll have that vote (and money). He can keep ignoring the illegal immigration problem and he’ll have that vote…and yes, they do vote. He can keep sending community “organizers” out to sign up park benches and he’ll have that vote. I think all those votes will be enough to give us 4 more years and during that time, he’ll just throw out that little part that limits presidential terms like he threw out the natural born citizen requirement! AAGGHHHH!

    • Bob JJohnson

congress is going to do nothing, all of our elected officials want us all completely dependent upon government, then they can tell us all what to do and when and where to do it, and if you protest, you will cease to exist. That is coming in my opinion, and not too far off.

      We feel your pain, Elevenarrows.
Leaders care about the citizens only to the extent they need to for their votes. Jefferson and Madison knew that, and they tried their best to prevent this, but the citizens lazily let the ball drop.

The only way we’re going to get our Freedom back is for the majority of the people to quit trying to force their petty control issues on the rest. That includes Democrats as well as Republicans. Judging by the thousands of anti-freedom comments on this website, I really don’t have much hope.

I say a bunch of mechaics get togther, form their own car company from an abandoned factory somewhere, and start making cars totally ignoring the laws. If the marines want to come in and chain gun us with 50 calibur machine guns and start Civil war2, then let it be so. Perhaps another Waco or Ruby Ridge committed by our own government will wake people out of their stupor. Sign waving every 6 months to one year ain’t doing crap. The tea party is a joke. Time to start following the peaceful yet powerful examples of MLK JR and Ghandi.

It takes time to influence public opinion. It took the Liberals decades to take over our media and our schools. Maybe the Tea Party doesn’t have it all together, but at least people are starting to awaken and do some critical thinking. Please don’t start attacking our allies.

        Interesting piece.

    • 45caliber

      Former:

Suppose they did? They couldn’t sell them since the government wouldn’t allow the customers to drive on the roads. And they would personally be stopped every time they left the house or the plant. The government would post police cars to do just that. Sooner or later they would give up due to harrassment – or at least the government would hope so. Or they can do as they did in California when the government wanted a beach front owner to give his land to the city for a park – raid his house in the middle of the night “due to information he was dealing drugs” and shoot him when he stepped out of his bedroom to see what was going on.

      • DaveH

Do you have a reference for that, 45?
If so, please post it. Maybe it’s on this map:
        http://www.cato.org/raidmap/

      • 45caliber

I only saw an article about it when his daughter held a press conference. The guy was a millionare and owned about a mile of beach front. I think it was at Malibo but I won’t guarantee it. Definately southern California. The city didn’t want to pay for it so they tried to get him to ‘donate’ it to the city. They set up callers to call him around the clock. Every time he changed his phone number they would get it within thirty minutes. Then they had the police start stopping his car every time he left the house. As they would write him (or his driver) a ticket the cops would urge him to give the land so the city could make a park out of it for the poor people to enjoy.

Finally they raided his house and shot him on a “drug raid”. “An accident”. They thought he had a gun. And the check for drugs was a failure too. Then they stopped the limo the family rode in to the graveyard as it left the cemetary. The cop told the family that it would be an excellent memorial to him if they would give the land to the city. The daughter called a press conference, told what was happening, and the city backed off in a hurry.

      • DaveH

OMG, you were spot on, 45. It is on the drug raid map I linked to. His name was Donald Scott. The year was 1992. Pick the California link and look for Scott on the Drug Raid map I linked to.

Whatever Free People decide voluntarily with their own bodies and their own property.
I realize that the Liberals (those who adulate Big Government) would much rather make those decisions for us. But should we entrust our personal decisions in the hands of people who can’t even make their own lives right, but think they can also control ours?
For those who want to look beyond the Jaw-Boning and see the real results of Big Government involvement in the Marketplace see here. This is a list of countries ranked by the amount of Government involvement in their economies. And don’t kid yourself, they all got there the same way the Liberals in our country want to take us there — Through high-minded goals that sound noble, but in reality will not be achieved by subjecting a Free People to the control of Big Government:

The raping of our economy by big corporations didn’t work out so well a few years ago and you are still blaming liberals for what our conservative capitalistic system has wrought upon us. Too many of you still have the anything goes Enron mentality and keep covering up your misdeeds. Attack Big Government all you want Dave but at least be more honest on the reality of the whole picture. Instead of being so one sided.

      • eddie47d

Why do you think I tell you to keep attacking Big Government or did you over look that? I doubt if either one of us will make government more honest for that is a daunting task. There is no consensus from either side and there will be no winners. Private corporations know this also and get away with their market manipulations. At least until the government catches on and does something about it. That only brings us bigger government and a continuation of the same old problems. You can’t slow down or stop one without going after the other. You choose to attack government and rightfully so but usually write off corporate shenanigans as crony capitalism. If only it was that easy to go after the dragon when it has two heads instead of one.

You have constantly bashed corporations, CEO’s, conservatives, Republicans, libertarians, man made climate change deniers and anybone else you don’t agree with and about the only time you mention government is with an occasional soft slap on the wrist or we need more regulations.

DaveH is pretty much the one that brought the term “Big Government” to the forefront around here, and those of us that “kinda” understand the term have picked up on it’s use…to “parrot” what you hear and lay claim to a 2 year run on it’s use is a might questionable in my mind.

Or you could just sweltor in your zealotous ignorance.

      • eddie47d

There were many factors in why the housing industry helped in bringing our economy to it’s knees. Government interference.corporate greed, banksters, individuals inflating what their houses were worth, realtors looking for a higher commission and looking the other way, flippers and scammers were everywhere. So take your pick.We do need a fairer free enterprise system and that is where you and I agree. That won’t change until we all reject the bad habits of private business and government interference. They feed upon each other and both are afraid to back down.

      • JeffH

Housing bust? The biggest contributors to the mortgage meltdown were the result of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack’s panic to meet lending quotas in order to maintain their Big Government sponsorship. In other words, Fannie and Freddie were pressured to take on risk to be profitable but knew they wouldn’t suffer the consequences if things turned south. That is the way the government set them up, all of the risk was placed on the backs of the taxpayer. After 2007, Fannie and Freddie were really the only lender still operating, responsible for nearly 90% of all mortgages.

      • DaveH

There is only one way to make business “fair”, Eddie, and that is to get Government out of it. Let the consumers decide who should succeed and who should fail, not the Politicians.

      • eddie47d

We’ve tried that and as you say “for the last 150 years”. You may want it to be something different but that is not the reality we have to deal with.

    • DaveH

Yes, of course, we should replace those oil pumps with acres of solar panels, and bird-killing noisy garish wind-generators. I just can’t wait for the beauty of Liberalism to fully envelope our country.

      • eddie47d

Dave; You ever think that maybe you are the reason we are in so much trouble with our energy sources by playing that same old fiddle we have heard for 60 years now. America needs every energy source that is available and all the alternatives need to be utilized to make every area of our country run smoothly. Those sun (solar) farms can be used in many parts of our country and the wind farms can be used in other parts to supplement our oil usage. Oil is getting more expensive to extract from the ground and more expensive to transport.Yet you lambast sources that can be used locally to help individuals and whole cities. Change is always slow but we should have started 60 years ago so stop being so negative and totally dependent on oil.

      • DaveH

Do you ever have anything useful to add to the conversation, Troll?

      • JeffH

I know, and that with the fact that we would let the Liberals live their immoral lifestyles (as long as they didn’t trespass on the bodies and property of other people). So what’s their beef? Oh yeah, they want to force their way on other people (like rapists), and help themselves to other peoples’ money (like thieves).

      • eddie47d

Dav must be talking about those nasty corporate thieves again . They sure do get in the way of decency. LOL

      • Push comes to shove

The oil becomes more and more expensive to extract due to the ever expanding regulations, overlapping regulations, extensive and over extended times for permits, etc.

But currently it is still cheaper than the cost of those solar and wind farms when you take out the govt subsidies. Oh and by the way, before you say anything, subsidies to the oil companies are only 1/10 of what they are to other energy sources.

      • Push comes to shove

Call me when the electric car can go 400+ miles before needing recharged, i think right now they only go maybe 60 miles at best. But you still need fossil fuel to produce the electrical energy, since you are probably (could be wrong) against nuclear power.

      • 45caliber

        Push:

I rode in an electric car back in 1972 or so that got 65 mph on the roads and had over a 350 mile range. (It was a test car.) It used six standard car batteries. It was charged each night for a total cost of $12.50 a month in additional electricity. The company was bought by General Motors and no one has seen that car since.

      • Push comes to shove

        45,

Not saying your not right, but…….. people say there was a carbuerator that got 100 mpg and was bought by big oil to supress it. I don’t think they could hide those all this time without someone spilling the beans.

I know there has to be tech to extend the range, but right now the only cars they have have only short ranges. If a watch battery can charged with kenetic energy why can’t the cars use the axle as a generator of electricity.

I would welcome an electric car, i was watching History channel (i think it was) with series on future cars and the electric car they showed went from 0-60 in something like 3 seconds. I am a muc=scle car guy and i could get into that kind of power. Yes, i am power hungry too, just not the type that controls other peoples lives.

      • 45caliber

        Push:

I read an article about twenty years ago now that caught my attention. It was an interview with a carborator inventor. His dad invented the very first carborator and between him and his father, they had over 85% of all carborator patents. He was about 85 at the time.

He stated that today’s car uses about 15% of the fuel for power. It can only provide power if it is in the gaseous state. The rest are fuel droplets that burn in the exhaust system. (My college textbooks on mechanical engineering say the same thing.) He invented a carborator that would provide 35% of the power from gasoline. He would guarantee doubling the fuel milage of any car on the road. In his example, he stated if your car got 50 mpg, it would get 100 mpg gallon – or more – with his carborator. If your car got 1 mpg, it would get 2 mpg.

He took the carborator to Ford – who told him they would only be interested in 2000 IF the government didn’t lower the milage requirements. They did. GM told him they weren’t interested in anything they didn’t invent themselves. The DOE says that if you come up with an invention that will cut energy use, they will finance up to $250,000 to build a factory to sell your item. He applied – and was told his invention wouldn’t work. They ignored his proof and declined testing one themselves. Finally one of the government workers took him aside and told him that they collected billions a year in fuel taxes and couldn’t allow him to build and sell this new carborator because it would cut their collected taxes in half.

I liked the electric car I rode in. A friend had a 55 mile paper route through the Ozark Mountains she drove 7 days a week. She was the tester. She tried to buy it but was told that since GM had bought the company, they couldn’t make or sell her that one.

      • DaveH

        Push,
It won’t matter if the electric cars do finally achieve a 400 mile range. It’s all a power trip on the part of the Liberals. They want to dictate your every choice. That is all.
About the time the electric cars finally achieve efficiency, the Liberals will start whining about what to do with all the poisonous metals from the worn-out batteries. Don’t think for a minute that you can make these people happy. They want all of your money and time, and even after they get that they still won’t be happy.

      • DaveH

The same old fiddle? For 60 years? You mean since FDR who took us through 10 years of depression? Or are you talking about the progression of Liberal controllers who have grown our Government to double the size it was 60 years ago? Now look where we are. And you try to lay that blame on people like me, Eddie the Liberal?
Unbelievable. First ignorant Liberals take control of our economy, then when things go inevitably sour, you try to blame Free Markets which we don’t have? What gall!

      • eddie47d

Oil is a transportation fuel. Wind & Solar is used to generate electric power. Currently oil accounts for only 1% of our electric power generation, wind & solar account for 3.6%. Even if we were to eliminate all oil used in electric power generation we would still be dependent on foreign oil. The only way we will reduce our dependence on foreign oil is to increase domestic production.

What does Congress care about our high gas prices – they can gas their guzzlers up under the white house gas pumps!

    • eddie47d

Ruth; Why worry about Washington so much for they are pressured from the left and the right so everything stays the same. Go after the auto companies and other corporations. Demand that they change to make your life more comfortable. If cars have higher mileage you will save a bundle and have more control over your life. When Washington stagnates make your own changes for there are too many forces keeping us dependent on the oil companies. Also don’t believe everything you read for this article said that these newer cars are causing more deaths on our roads. Not true at all and they have actually decreased almost 15% between 1979 and 2009. Traffic deaths in 2009 were the lowest in 60 years.

      • 45caliber

There are enough patents already available (and mostly owned by the car companies) that they could easily double the gas milage we see. But if they did that, the government would see their fuel taxes as collected cut in half. After all, if you bought half as much gas you’d pay half as much fuel tax.

And the government doesn’t want that to happen. At least not yet. They are working on a “road tax” which would tax everyone on the milage they drove instead of the fuel they use. (Although I suspect they would keep the fuel tax too.) If that goes into affect we MIGHT see increased gas milage. But not until then.

      • Dan az

        45
I agree if you think about it with better fuel mileage means less gas which in turn gives them more reason to tax higher. With less profits at the pump for oil companies makes tax breaks more efficient and more profit for the guvmnt. We on the other hand will be paying the same know matter what and guvmnt motors will gain with the crap that they produce.Sounds Good huh?

      • Bob from Calif.

The people in office are nothing but a bunch of crooks. What do crooks do best? They steal, that’s what they do. So until we find a way to control all of these crooks, this is not going to stop any time soon.

There is a sure solution for all the talking heads that think they could do better. Pool your monies and start your own companies. Don’t tell me you can’t do it. With all that brain power it should be a cinch. What’s to stop you? Big Government? Crony Capitalism? Seems to me that’s the problem. It certainly isn’t the fault of Free Markets, because we haven’t had them for 150 years.

      • DaveH

Typical Eddie speak “don’t believe everything you read for this article said that these newer cars are causing more deaths on our roads. Not true at all and they have actually decreased almost 15% between 1979 and 2009. Traffic deaths in 2009 were the lowest in 60 years”.
As usual, Eddie mixes apples and oranges. Bob was talking about the lightweight fuel efficient cars, which are well-known (by anybody with knowledge) to fare poorly in a collision with bigger cars.
The fact that annual auto deaths are down in no way indicates that the smaller cars are safe. Most likely auto deaths are down because cars are built better and safer than they used to be (at a high cost though). They’re built that way by those auto companies that Eddie wants you to hate.
For some logic on the smaller cars safety:
        http://www.iihs.org/news/rss/pr041409.html

With Government’s meddling hands in every aspect of our Marketplace, who knows what all is driving prices these days? The oil companies get subsidies (but only 1/10 of what the “green” companies are getting). They get tax breaks. The Federal Reserve is busily printing copious amounts of excess dollars which drives the value of our dollar down thus increasing our costs for foreign and domestic goods. The Government is doing everything in their power to stop our domestic Oil companies from drilling. And with all the Government meddling, we can add the cost of the Government busybodies’ salaries to the mess. Not to mention the cost of compliance to the companies that are jumping through all the regulatory hoops.
This is one big screwup by a Federal Government that is out of control. We need to get them out of our Marketplaces. We need to get our Freedom back.

There’s a big difference between those Companies who succeed by the aid of Big Government, and those who make it on their own in Free Markets. Bob was talking about the former.

      • eddie47d

Some day this country will have to wake up to astronomical CEO salaries and how they effect our economy. They live in their own world with little regards to whether they deserve any of what they earn. Anything over 52% of the average workers paycheck within their company is highway robbery and thievery. What they earn never guarantees success and sometimes drags their companies down. They give capitalism a black eye and need to be reeled in if they want respect. They have earned precious little respect and deserve to be called to task.

Crony capitalism is what give capitalism a black eye.

The word “capitalism” is used in two contradictory ways. Sometimes it’s used to mean the free market, or laissez faire. Other times it’s used to mean today’s government-guided economy. Logically, “capitalism” can’t be both things. Either markets are free or government controls them. We can’t have it both ways.

The truth is that we don’t have a free market — government regulation and management are pervasive — so it’s misleading to say that “capitalism” caused today’s problems. The free market is innocent.

But it’s fair to say that crony capitalism created the economic mess.

Education can be a valuable as John Stossel explains in “Let’s Take the ‘Crony’ Out of ‘Crony Capitalism’”.

Some day, Eddie, this country is going to have to wake up to exorbitant Union salaries.
The difference? Companies pay those exorbitant CEO salaries willingly with their own money. Unions get their exorbitant salaries by taking the money from those companies through coercion and force.

      • eddie47d

Dave: Unions have to negotiate for their pay and get paid much less. CEOs are the ones who demand huge salaries and bonuses or they hold the company hostage. I’ll take the hard working union man over the upper management and CEOs and their outrageous pensions and golden parachutes. Go ahead and support your elites and I’ll continue to support the average Joe worker.

Why We Need Highly Paid CEO’s: Why Do People Resent Overpaid CEO’s?

Recently Madhukar Angur, Professor of Marketing at the Flint campus of the University of Michigan, examined executive compensation at top U.S. corporations and found little evidence of systemic plunder of big companies by greedy CEOs.

As he wrote in Investor’s Business Daily (March 23, 2009): “Recent research, however, suggests that this abuse of corporate finances may not be as prevalent as it seems. Indeed, over 40% of the 94 U.S. corporations I have studied had CEO compensation generally based on proportionate increase or decrease in company’s net worth or paid less to CEOs despite an increase in company net worth.”
CEO pay has risen astronomically over the interval, but so have investor returns.” A pay day of nearly half a billion dollars can represent a real bargain for exceptionally gifted (or lucky) CEOs. Professor Angur notes that “using company net worth as the basis of performance measures, Jack Welch, the former CEO of General Electric, is considered underpaid. Through his unique leadership style and business acumen Welch took the company’s worth from about $14 billion in 1981 to $500 billion just before retiring.”

I still support a different system in compensating CEOs. Net worth of a company is a minor factor except maybe for bonuses. I feel the same way about movie stars of today who demand outrageous percentages of a movies gross. TV stars can get 2 million an episode (15 minutes of work). Sorry, no one is that good. They all want their cake and eat it too and at our expense. Higher movie tickets, higher costs for consumer products to pay for TV commercials to pay for TV stars. The same goes for spoiled sports figures and high stadium fees and cable costs. We pay dearly for greed and it’s hard to avoid in our daily lives unless we all stop living. We do have CEOs making a billion a year even by creating losses. We all love a winner no matter how dishonest our system is. That is probably true in any system. There are dictatorships throughout the world where corruption flows like a mighty river. Our corruption is spread out among many facets and hard to pinpoint without dragging down everyone. It’s been going on for so long it is accepted as normal and desirable. Yes I do look at our CEO system as corrupt.

      • JeffH

“Our corruption is spread out among many facets and hard to pinpoint without dragging down everyone.”

I can pinpoint where to start and that is right at the top…The Feds, corrupt government agencies, the president and both houses. Stop that corruption and everything else will start to fall in place. It’s easy for you to blame the “CEO’s”.

It isn’t capitalism that supports creating massive government spending programs and distributing tax payer dollars irresponsibly. It isn’t capitalism that promotes a government take-over of the health care system that can’t sustain itself financially and will likely lead to rationed care and waiting lines. In fact, regardless of the ravings of anti-corporatist Leftists like yourself, it isn’t capitalism that creates politcally-motivated famine, secret police forces, or the imprisonment and murder of dissidents. Oddly enough, capitalists tend to leave those kinds of things to the socialists.

Its Unions that hold us all hostage. Especially Government Unions which are criminally incompetent. (thugs)
CEO’s salaries are none of our business provided there is no government involvement.

Sold my Silverado when they took the dough.
Driving my thrid brand new Ford in a row now and my wife has a brand new Ford Edge.

A guy at work was telling me yesterday that he just picked up a 2011 Chev Truck. I said well, “your welcome”…that seemed to confuse him so I explained. I was robbed of tax dollars to build that truck…mind if I use it to haul some garbage?

He didn’t like that and I don’t care.

      • karolyn

Didn’t it take his tax dollars too? AND GM is hiring back those laid off PLUS new hires.

      • DaveH

Oh, so Karolyn, It’s okay if I make you pay for my house, as long as I pay part?
        Liberal logic amazes me.

      • http://deleted Claire

I will continue to support GM until I die.

      • DaveH

Then you must not have been one of their bondholders who took it in the shorts when Government got involved.

      • http://deleted Claire

DaveH: No I was not and am not a bondholder. But since taxpayers money help bail them out, I don’t want GM to fail.

      • JC

Well Claire, maybe the government could just run “everything”…then it would “never” fail…
Don’t you realize it was part of the greatest theft in history?

Sorry, there’s a principle here that Americans have abandoned.
And condoning socialism on any level is something I will never do.
        Its just plain disgusting.

      • http://deleted Claire

JC–I see your side of the issue too and I understand what you are saying. But a huge part of me wants to support GM–don’t get me wrong, I do not want government interference either. I just keep thinking about all the jobs that were saved.

      • JC

Claire, I understand the sentiment. In fact that very sense of patriotism to support a great American icon, “GM” was used on us very well to gain our acceptance of this entirely criminal enterprise by the Fed and our so called Representative Government. No one said these paople are stupid.

And for sure some jobs were saved at a cost of what? A couple of million dollars each? Heck why didn’t we just give them the cash… they’d be better off and we’d be done with it.

But as it stands, Government Motors Corp can now undersell everyone else because they are subsideized and where will that take us?
To the land where we have NO choicebut to buy our vehicles from a Government entity. Because no one else will be able to compete with that.

I say let everything in business that the Government (Fed) touches fail. If we support it, we support our own demise as a nation.

I don’t care if it took his tax dollars too.
It took mine. My money was stolen to support an irresponsible corporation. That’s UNAMERICAN…get it? Its an actual crime.
And if you think the money came from “the government”, it didn’t.
It came from the Federal Reserve. A FOREIGN banking cartel.

      • Alex

So, JC, entities that accept government monies should all fail? Like our mercenary military?

      • JC

Alex are you suggesting our Military is a private enterprise entity?
Or did you wake up to find you’re still an idiot?

      • http://?? Joe H.

        JC,
        Last sentence, DING, DING, DING!!!!!!!!!

    • Karolyn

Oh, yeah, boycotting GM will really help the economy! Then we’d never get all our money back!

      • Warrior

The real question here is, can stupid be fixed?

      • JC

        And the answer is no.
