What Training Monkeys Can Teach Us About Congress

April 29, 2011 by

What Training Monkeys Can Teach Us About Congress

Many thanks to the Alert Reader who sent me the following story about monkeys. I think you’ll agree, it has important lessons for us about how to make changes in Washington.

Start with a cage holding five monkeys. Hang a banana from the top of the cage and underneath it, put some stairs going up. Before long, a monkey will start climbing the stairs to get the banana.

When he does, spray cold water on all of the monkeys. The first monkey will scamper into a corner. But after a while, another monkey will start climbing the stairs. When he does, spray all the monkeys with cold water again.

Do this a few more times when a monkey tries to climb the stairs and pretty soon you won’t need any water. As soon as a monkey gets on the stairs, the other monkeys will stop him.

At this point, remove one of the monkeys and replace him with a new one. The new monkey will see the banana and start climbing the stairs. To his surprise, the other four monkeys will grab him and start beating him up. After two or three efforts to get the banana with the same thing happening, pretty soon he’ll give up, too.

When that happens, replace another of the original five monkeys with a new one. Not knowing any better, he’ll try to get the banana. But as soon as he starts climbing the stairs, all of the other monkeys – including the previous newcomer – will start beating him.

When the new monkey has been trained not to try for the banana, replace another of the original monkeys and repeat the process. After three more switches, all of the original monkeys will be gone. None of the ones that remain will have ever been sprayed with cold water.

But here’s the amazing thing: None of them will try to get the banana. Each one knows that if he does, the other four will beat the crap out of him. Why? They have no idea. They just know that’s the way it has always been.

The Straight Talk reader who sent me the story said the moral is obvious: This is how Congress operates. And it explains why, from time to time, YOU HAVE TO REPLACE ALL OF THE MONKEYS.

Right now, the banana is deficit reduction. Everybody wants to reach for it… or at least say they want to. Heck, even our President recently declared:

“We have to live within our means, reduce our deficit and get back on a path that will allow us to pay down our debt.”

Like many of his predecessors in the Oval Office, President Barack Obama has mastered the art of saying the right thing – while most of the time doing the exact opposite. There has not been a single second since he took office that he has demonstrated the slightest interest in living within our means, or reducing the deficit or paying down our national debt. Just the opposite, in fact.

I didn’t have the stomach to watch Obama’s speech about the deficit he delivered at George Washington University two weeks ago. It was all I could do to read it the next day. I didn’t expect much in the way of honesty, humility or contrition. But even I was shocked by the partisan bitterness of his remarks.

Rather than applaud Republican efforts to reduce the deficits, or acknowledging the amazing courage of Rep. Paul Ryan and a handful of his colleagues for putting such sacred cows as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security on the table, the president declared that his opponents were heartless monsters who would pit “children with autism or Down’s syndrome” against “every millionaire and billionaire in our society.”

As the Wall Street Journal noted, “Mr. Obama then packaged his poison in the rhetoric of bipartisanship – which ‘starts,’ he said, ‘by being honest about what’s causing our deficit.’ The speech he delivered was dishonest even by modern political standards.”

The Journal is being too kind. Obama’s speech about the deficit just may be the most dishonest assemblage of bluff, bluster and baloney that I have ever read. But we can at least thank our vice president for one of the lighter moments of what was a very dark occasion. In case you missed it, Joe Biden slept through much of his boss’s speech.

I kid you not. You can see it on YouTube by clicking here. And don’t believe anyone who tells you the VP was merely thinking deeply about what his boss was saying. I’ve slept through enough boring lectures myself to know he’s asleep, for crying out loud.

Would that you and I could take this same easy way out to ignore all of our president’s dishonest posturing and phony promises. But we can’t. Unless we force Congress to change, we are going to be willing participants in one of the greatest crimes in U.S. history: saddling our children and our children’s children with a debt they will never be able to pay off.

The promises made by the Federal government to its citizens – the so-called “unfunded liabilities” that are already written into law – now come to more than $100 trillion. And there is not a single cent set aside to pay them. Not one copper penny.

Even Social Security is bankrupt. You must understand that there is no money in the horribly misnamed Trust Fund. Every dollar a young worker pays in today is sent out immediately to an older retiree. All that the worker will have to show for 40 or 50 years of contributions will be some IOUs.

By the way, the idea that the “rich” in this country aren’t paying their fair share is absolutely preposterous. The top 1 percent of taxpayers in this country earns about 11 percent of the income. So you’d expect them to pay 11 percent of the taxes, right? Not at all: The top 1 percent of taxpayers pays more than twice that amount. They account for 22 percent of all income taxes collected. Meanwhile, the bottom 50 percent of the population pays nothing. In fact, the vast majority of them are net tax recipients.

Wasn’t one of the founding principles in America that we are all supposed to be equal before the law? Please tell me, what is “equal” about a tax rate that is many times higher for a successful person than someone who is not? Has anyone ever heard of the truism that if you want more of something, subsidize it? But if you want less of something, tax it? Apparently, our would-be masters in Washington want more people on the dole. And fewer paying the taxes that make it all possible.

In case you’ve forgotten, our Founding Fathers made a progressive income tax illegal for the first 137 years of this country’s existence. This vital element of Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto wasn’t inflicted on us until 1913, when a devious conspirator named Edward Mandell House got his puppet Woodrow Wilson to throw his support behind the Sixteenth Amendment.

But here’s the amazing thing: The vast majority of legislators who voted for the darned thing had no idea what they were doing. Sound impossible? Not at all. Let me quote every word in that amendment; then you tell me what you think it says:

“The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.”

And that’s it. Those 30 words are all it took to unleash the monstrous tyranny of our present tax system on us. Do you see anything there that says, “Hey, Congress, we really think Karl Marx had the right idea. Let’s sock it to the ‘rich’ with a progressive income tax.”

Of course not. The people who would enslave us were not any more honest 100 years ago than Barack Obama and his supporters are today.

Thank goodness, a whole bunch of Americans are catching on. As Howard Beal said, they’re mad as hell. And they’re not going to take anymore.

Neither should you.

Until next time, keep some powder dry.

Actually the dictator Lincoln instituted the first Income Tax in 1861. It was repealed in 1872. But that did certainly create the seed for the next rendition of the Income Tax in 1913.

  • Ronald, Maryland

I believe in the ‘big bang theory,’ I believe God clapped his hands and said, “Let there be life.”

Obama is creating an ever widening gulf between decent white folks and decent black folks for no better reason than political expediency!

  • WayneT

All I can say ia if we would only elect honest people to be our president, and Congress Members, that loved their country, our problems would be over. Where do we find such people anymore? Even when we find them, the stupid electorate votes in the ones with the most hot air that can give a good speech, but lacks good qualities. How can people elect Congress Members like Charlie Rangel who is in charge of the tax laws that does not pay his own taxes, and gets reelected back in Congress. This does not speak well for the idiots in his district. The below quote was e-mailed to me. It explains what I am trying to say, but this explains it much better. It cannot be said any better than this. I rest my case, your honour.

QUOTE OF THE CENTURY, MAYBE EVEN THE MILLENNIUM
Some people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way you can understand them. This quote came from the Czech Republic . Someone over there has it figured out. We have a lot of work to do.

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.”

The media lets us Americans know everything and I mean everything about the people who would be politicians, including how much lint they have in their belly buttons. They omit the most important which is the character of these politicians. We are told by the media how wonderful the jackasses are that we have now and we have the majority of the population believing such in spite of the fact the politicians lie and lie. What is it about lies that they are believed and the truth is not. That Democrats are short on truth is common knowledge, but why the Republicans are so cowardly is beyond me. Unless Democrats know how to weed out the weak in their midst, but the Republicans take anybody into the Republican party without checking to see if they a really espouse Republican values. The Republicans have enemies in the camp and they don’t purge them.

  • louie

I knew them scientists were gonna keep train’ them monkeys ’til one ‘uv ‘um was smart enough for a bunch of idiots to put him in White House so that he could play the game “trying to be president” while the members of congress sat bach & applauded him!?

  • Edmond

If we can talk intelligently about saving our children and women from the horror to come, leave out RACE AND WHITE SUPREMACY. It has the world on the brink of disaster. Get on you knees, right where you are and ask the good Lord to teach you that it is not about YOU! It’s about his plan to save us. “It is not God’s wish that any should perish. . . do it now. I DARE YOU!!! “Only the “pure” in heart shall see (realize the saving Grace) God. Do it Now.

    • Bob

You seem to be the only one here who is obsessed with race; no one here is talking about white supremacy. The race card doesn’t work here Emond, go back to the Huff Post where they eat that garbage up.

      • Edmond

Damit Bob, if you only knew what “Institutional Racism” is, you’d have a greater impact on this World. Even you, you can’t see it because it is a part of your personality. You assume and pressume to much. Presumption is sinfull. You can’t assume that White People have all the sense. Listen to me good man. When you appear before the Throne of Judgement, you will be asked whether you took care of the poor, providing food clothing and shelter. Now in your mind, that applies to White Children only, if it didn’t, as rich as this country is, you would expect someone to step up and say, Hey! Let’s feed the children. If you can throw money away on wars and going to the moon, you can feed children. If this is “the” Bob (Livingston), please delete my subscription. I’m insulted that the only thing you had to say was something about the worn tired out “race card” defense. I heard a Muslim say that the other day. I asked him with a dog:( on my mouth and fire in my eyes, “what the hell he knew about a race card?” I asked him twice and he never answered. I knew what he was thinking inside, “I better not say anything, this —– looks suicidal too.”

      • libertytrain

Edmond, when Bob Livingston comments he uses his whole name.

      • Eddie47d

….are you sure about that Bob?

      • DaveH

Do you have evidence to the contrary, troll?

      • Eddie47d

Go back to your Oreo cookie Dave.

      • JeffH

        …of course not…see 47D’s response…

      • Eddie47d

Still no banana award for you Jeff or even Dave. Now climb back into your tree.

  • Edmond

    Sir:
You’re steeped in traditional Freudian and Pavlov bullcrap. And guess what, if Africans are related to monkeys, they’ve been related to them well over a million years and guess what? Where do you think the White Man comes from if the Black Man was first? Correct. From the Black Man. The White Man is a clone from the Black Man. You thought genetic engineering was something new. I think that instead of looking for ways to diminish the Black Man, you should try to understand where you come from. Blacks became dark because of millions of years under the Sun. You have been around for less than six or seven thousand years. I hate to inform you, though genetically engineered, who could create a soul. Nobody but God thru Jesus Christ. That’s why you are also heir to the promises. You’ll be redeemed with the rest after you get though “F”in up the earth. It will end in a Big Bang, one like you have never seen before. Finally Sir, European psychology doesn’t fit the African mindset. It was created by Europeans for Europeans. So even though your article was politically correct and steeped in institutional racism, it was entertaining and cryptic for the suckers who have no Knowledge and who can’t think for themselves.

    • Bob

Your thinking is as twisted as your theology. You misuse Scripture and you don’t even know that, according to Scripture, none of us have been around for millions of years. You aren’t even smart enough to know that a clone is an exact replica of the the one from which the clone was cloned.

    • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Edmond… Are you trying to say that the monkey analogy was directed at blacks? What are you smoking? It was an analogy to Congress, nothing more and nothing less. If I am wrong on this, I am hoping someone will correct me!

      • louie

Robin, I think Edmond is rolling his “weed” in his race cards & smoking them…hoping others won’t notice. Some people just can not help but bring race into any & everything.

      • Bear

        Louie,
Can we safely say that he hates everyone equally? LOL :)

    • louie

Gosh Edmond, you sure seem to know a lot about training monkeys. Are you sure you are not a former trainee!?

    • Doug

This had nothing to do with RACE unless you are referring to saying monkies are below politicians. I would rather vote for a money then 99% of the politicians today. And from my 52 years on this earth those who sream racisim are usually the most prejudice of all. Example Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Bill Clinton, Jimmy crackcorn peanut Carter. And don’t forget the dumbasscrats which bascially came from the KKK.

      • Bert Cundle

BEING RACIST is a GOOD Thing!!! Don’t Knock it!

      • Carlucci

“Jimmy crackcorn peanut Carter”. LOL – ! Good one. Describes him to a T.

    • Nadzieja Batki

You have selective learning. What color was Adam and Eve? What color were Noah and his family?
Stop with the race BS, race has no morals and no virtues.

  • Ronald, Maryland

I like the monkey training analogy, but doubt it would work with politicians. Brain damaged monkeys do not respond rationally… either.

Obama and his commie friends have one agenda(BANKRUPT THE COUNTRY) He has 2 more years to do it in. Go ahead Democrats looking for a handout give him 4 more years!!! Who cares Dan? I’ve gotten way past the point of being concerned if some liberal retard pulls out the race card because I despise Obama. He’s the worst president this country has ever had, although Lincoln, Lyndon Johnson, and Carter do give him a run for the money. And his supporters are so stupid that they can’t even make a believable phony birth certificate for him.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    Robert,,,,
i have never considered myself being a racist and always have tried to give credit where credit was due regardless of race or skin color, However with the constant trend of racism the liberals are pushing on a daily basis I find myself turning against some folks that may not deserve it..
Liberals are creating an unfounded bias among the population That will eventually turn people against some of the good black people.

    • kodster5

Hey, that’s already happening! The liberal blacks who have their hands out for entitlements are already calling the good black people who see the truth, “Uncle Toms”.

But the Lord said during this time, people would turn against each other. “The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.” Luke 12:53… this applies to everyone, not just the family.

      • http://! Angel Wannabe

kodster 5, Herman Cain and Allen West, both Black men who’ve seen the light. Both are constantly chastised for they’re beliefs.

      • Eddie47d

EVERY politician is chastised for their beliefs and without exception. Some attack Obama and Cain because they are black but most who do are just against their particular policies not their blackness.

I am going to make one last plea to anybody who reads this.

They have been and are coming for everything that any one right, left, center has…Everyday people are waking up. Everyday the dollar drops littlie by little…bernanke and geithner doing the shitty work of the bankers and politicians…penny by penny the rob all of us of the things that we have worked for our entire lives.

For those of you on the govt. dole, that believe that the govt will take care of you and everyone else…the pain and betrayal that you will feel will be excruciating and I hope I can hear you screaming!

You had better spend the last of worthless money buying things that will keep you alive when the dollar tanks.

I realize that all of you socilist/commies here may find something snarkie to say, but there is the truth…something that you have always refused to hear.

To the rest of you, May God strenghten you daily as I will be praying that people will be waking up to save our wonderful United States of America.

Monkeys for christ sakes…TIME knows more about “real monkeys”
TIME if you are around…thank you and God Bless your family.

They always have. Are you trying to make a point? People make the choice of rejecting Christianity. God allows us to do this.

      • DaveH

As usual, Karolyn focuses on the negative.
Luckily, I am not Christian, so I can and will enjoy the day when the Progressives reap what they have sowed.

      • karolyn

No, Dave, I focus on hypocrisy. I just had a discussion yesterday with a lovely Christian woman I work with. She said she had for so long denied totally giving in to being born again a Christian because she didn’t want to be like so many Christians she met who were such hypcrites. Of course, she realized she didn’t have to be like them but rather carry the word with love and not curse those who think differently and wish ill on them, revelling in their “screams.”

      • DaveH

I know well, Karolyn, that you don’t see yourself as others see you.
Can I buy that mirror please?

      • GeorgeE

        Bert,

What do you suggest we replace it with? Religion has done a lot to guide our culture and society. Removing all influences of Christianity (and I assume other religions) would have a very disruptive effect. As far as I’m aware there really isn’t anything else that can replace it in so far as helping keep our society in a orderly, civilized and peaceful state. It forms the basis for our values, morals, and ethics which sets a higher standard of personal conduct than the law requires. Our society is coming apart not because of influences from the Christian religion but because individuals no longer try to live up to the teachings of Christianity.

      • http://! Angel Wannabe

        Well said George E! :)

      • Vigilant

“This Country needs to be saved from Christian inflances! [sic]”

      • Vigilant

        GeorgeE,

A most truthful and eloquent comment. I salute you!

BTW, I’m not a Christian but have the good sense to recognize that in the absence of Christian influence, this nation never would have been founded on the sanctity of individual freedom. It’s very survival and flourishing as a beacon of light to the world depended on those values.

    • JKO

Tim I began my life as a democrat and realized they were out to lunch. I then became a republican and they went out to lunch. It is BOTH parties that are uncivil. AND most of the bad behavior during protest now are coming from the left. Case in point – when Beck held his 8-28 rally a left leaning columnist wrote that he actually walked the mall looking for trash and found exactly one piece of paper. There was only one incident of conflict between people and the cops were not even called. The people kindly asked the person to stop and they did (evidently when the people began to pray for him). During 10 2 10 the mall was left a mess, there was a lot of yelling and general disrepect. I saw that with my own eyes.
My point is that it is both of these parties that are the problem not just one. Step outside of your “liberal” box and check it out for yourself. Don’t just believe what your party wants you to.

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

JKO… I started out as a Democrat, too. Grew up in a Democrat home. When I left and was on my own for several years, I still was a Democrat. Then I truly grew up. My folks were appalled that I wanted to be a conservative. They are both dead and gone now, but I am sure Mom is rolling in her grave and Dad’s ashes are fluttering. They wouldn’t believe what is currently going on.
I agree that both sides can dish it out, but I too believe that the liberals have cornered the market on incivility. Conservatives are just that, conservative. Go figure.

      • kodster5

Ditto! I grew up in a household that my parents were “blue-dog” Democrats, and like Angel Wannabe’s grandparents, my parents grew up during the Great Depression. So, I aligned myself with the Democratic party when I was old enough to vote. I was on my own for a while, and then realized that the Republican party was more aligned with my beliefs and started voting that way. But over time, again, became disillusioned with that party, because the line between the parties was becoming more and more blurred. So, now, I’m an Independent, and vote my conscience.

NO party is going to align with everyone, 100%. That’s just plain impossible. So, vote Independent, vote your conscience, look at the issues, and do what your heart tells you to do. That’s also the basic premise of the Tea Party movement, too. Even though I still vote independently, I like what I see coming out of the Tea Party. They are people who are just as disillusioned as I am.

      • WayneT

Kodster5, even though I am registered Republican, I do exactly what you do. I look at the Candidates and see if he meets my expectations of a good honest person before I cast my vot. We all need to do this. Anyone who vwould vote a straight tickt is a fool in my mind.

      • http://! Angel Wannabe

JKO, My Grandparents were Democrats from the Depression Era, if they were alive today, they’d be considered Conservatives!

      • JKO

Same here and I agree that the democrats from the depression era are the conservatives of today.

    • DaveH

Only a Pregressive Zealot could make a conflicted statement like that, Tim.

    • http://www.cbcofetowah.com/ Mike

Tim, I hate to say it but the real problem is we no longer have a 2 party system. Once long ago the party in power was kept in check by the minority house through a system of checks and balances. Now that system is gone to one of whats your price? The republicans are spinless idiots for the most part and the dems are full of corrupt lifetime politirats. Untill this chain is broken by a 3rd party things will never change. I wasent really too encouraged by the last election in a lot of ways. These so called conservitive republicans all seem to have had their price or we wouldent still be argueing some of the same points we were argueing 3 years ago.Mike L.

    • Carlucci

Hey Tim, They ALL SUCK!! It is not a Republican vs Democrat issue because they are all part of a two headed monster. There is no difference between the two parties. Wake up.

      • Nadzieja Batki

There is supposed to be a difference between the two parties. Democrats are stringent in who is considered a Democrat and they weed out the Democrat wannabees. Republicans have no such strict rules and they allow anyone to claim to be a Republican and not have to prove it and that is why we get RHINOs. My son had to write a college paper in his Gov. class and the question to answer was about the two party system. In one of the searches this was the explanation for the Republicans dismal record.

    • Harold Olsen

Oh, that is funny! Considering all the hate speech that comes from the left, you have no right to talk. When Bush was president, protestors carried signs that said, “Death to Bush” and “Kill Bush” and a lot of other vile crap. TEA party rallies were accused of similar things, but the big difference is there is proof on video of the left doing it but no proof that the right is doing it, just your lies. That is ALL the left does, make up lies because they don’t have any valid arguments. Why don’t you crawl back under your rock. It’s people like you why I consider Democrats and liberals to be one of the worst, if not the worst, hate groups in the country and why I will never vote for a Democrat or a liberal.

      • Carlucci

Harold Olsen – Who in the world are you talking to?

      • GeorgeE

I think he’s talking to Tim L. who posted at 8:13 AM today, not you.

    • Vigilant

Tim, the leftists wrote the book on incivility and indecency.

Sometimes when the right has become so beleaguered by the lies, insults and indecency of the left, they break down and fight fire with fire.

At that point, the left cries “foul” and falls down on the floor in a weeping fit.

Your Orwellian doublethink doesn’t carry any water here, rookie.

Learned Behavior is almost impossible to overcome. What is even more frightening is the way our Education System has been changed. The trained behaviour of our youth is to believe that the Constitution and our Founding Fathers are irrelevant. What matters is the Community Collective and reinforcing Liberal beliefs in “Sharing the Wealth” and the evil of the Corporations whose only motivation is Profit.
Tax the rich because they have too much money and must share it with the benevolent Government. Thank you Bill Ayer and all the other Liberals who have been teaching our students.

    • Nadzieja Batki

If polls ask parents about schools their children attend, they will tell the pollsters that the school their child attends is wonderful with wonderful, caring teachers. So where are all the bad schools where the kids are dumbed down?

      • DaveH
      • Nadzieja Batki

They are being dumbed down. How do you plan to get the parents’ attention to that fact? They don’t appear to see what you see.

      • Carlucci

Dumbed down and brainwashed. And it’s not just the students. My sister works for a school district and I’ve never seen anyone so brainwashed in my life. She believes that public schools actually educate kids, and also should be in charge of medicating them. She actually takes Ritalin herself, because she believes she has “A.D.D.”, which is a completely made up “disease or disorder”. A.D.D. symptoms are nothing but the result of adrenal fatigue, which is a national epidemic, according to my holistic physician. I cannot stand to talk to my sister about her job because she is so militant and clueless.

You know, I’m only 56 years old, but I am astounded and disgusted at all of the bullshit I see and hear everywhere on a daily basis, and most of it is courtesy of that cancer called Fedzilla. America has turned into something I no longer recognize.

      • http://! Angel Wannabe

Carlucci, the school our kids were in, tried to get us to put our son on Ritalin, I told them to take a flying f-in leap. Turned out he had a high IQ, he needed more of a challenge. We put him in an extra class and he was fine and 31!__

BTW, speaking of medication, I personally know 17 people, ages 30 and below, who are on some type of Ritalyn, Abilify or some other personality altering drug. I’m not saying that some folks don’t need it, but basically I think its doctors in cahoots with Big Pharma pushing it. There is no way in h*ll, all of these people need to be on this stuff. I think its used an excuse for lousy behavior too!

      • DaveH

Good for you, Angel (on the flying leap thing).

  • Edd

This is an old story that still applies to our Govt members. We need to clean house completely and set term limits to get rid of elected HOMESTEADERS. There is also a very definite cure for all that ails SS and medicare that we have been forced to pay into all our working lives. The cure is to take all the freeloading Congressional entitlement thinkers off their programs and put them under SS and Medicare like the people they make laws for but feel those laws do not apply to themselves. SS and medicare will be fixed in a couple of heart beats when they apply to Washington Elites.

  • JIMEMAC

Chip, great comparison but no solution. Do you know of GOOOH (pronounced GO)? If so, why not at least mention it in this article? After all, it is a plan/method to replace every one of the 435 representatives in Congress in 2012. Can it work . . .? Not if influential columnists, etc. keep ignoring GOOOH. Yes, Robin, the FAIR TAX would have a fighting chance of passing with true citizen representatives voting instead of the “monkeys” there now! Also, term limits are required of GOOOH candidates! Sound interesting? Check out GOOOH.COM now. We cannot afford to wait.

    • http://www.cbcofetowah.com/ Mike

Sounds intresting but…. We had better ban all the lobbiest while we are at it. Mike L.

  • Shirjay

I believe that Chip Wood and the author of the monkey article are trying to tell us that we need to vote the incumbents out for the next four elections until there’s a complete turnover in our Congress- however I wonder if that would cure the situation if the “monkeys” are learning so quickly from each other. Perhaps we should “recall all of them” and start over with an entirely new group. That might possibly work IF we can find some individuals with ‘integrity and patriotism who are courageous and willing to stand on Constitutional principles’ and ignore “politically correct garbage” so the job will get done to SAVE OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURES!!!!!!

    • Klaus

Term limits is the only way to fix this.

      • Carlucci

But do we really need them (Congress)? What good are they? Except for the Drs. Paul, who are really trying to make a difference, the rest are a bunch of parasites. With the way technology is these days, why does Fedzilla have to be so huge? The current system is totally old fashioned and obsolete.

      • WayneT

We all know one fact, it has been Comgress who has got us in this 14.4 trillion dollar debt and this is causing our current economic situation where a lot of people are suffering. I blame it on both sides of the isle. They are the ones who approved all this idiotic spending. We do need to vote those old codgers out of office as soon as possible as China will soon own us if we do not. • Harold Olsen

The ONLY way to regulate how and when politicians get pay raises would be to put it to a vote of the people. If WE decided when or if they got raises then, MAYBE, they would get their head out of their asses and pay attention to us. The trouble is, to change how they get their pay raises would take an act of Congress. So, that kills that idea. They would never pass legislation that would give us the power we are supposed to have according to the Constitution of the United States, which the left considers an illegal document and the rights chooses to just ignore it.

  • Gary in Oh

The fire department was told to stand down! And the color of the PUPPET is irrellivant so lets stop with that distraction. The birth certificate has always been a distraction. Obama is not the President of this country (the land we live on), He is merely the CEO of the corporation cleverly titled THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA that We the People have been illusioned into thinking is the real government.

  • Bob

The only fair tax is a head tax – a tax based on those duties of the government that are outlined in the constitution. This would be fair because all benefit equally and should, therefore, pay equally. Any additional programs could be paid for by those who desire the programs. This plan would make taxes absolutely fair and would keep the worthless, tax-consuming parasites of the left from demanding more and more from government because they would then have to pay for more government out of their own pockets rather than stealing the money by taxing the productive.

    • DaveH

      Right on Bob.
And those who couldn’t pay whould have to jump through the paperwork hoops to explain why they couldn’t. The rest of us would just cut a check and be done with it. You can bet that people would immediately start voting more responsibly once they were then paying their fair share.
Also, those who couldn’t pay due to some financial misfortune, shouldn’t be able to vote for a certain time period. Why should people with no skin in the game be allowed to vote how the money is spent?
But we are just Hoping and Dreaming, as the Government is not going to give up their vote-buying power easily. For evidence of that, see here:

Obams jsut recently stopped Campaigning for the last election. Oh no, not again. Trust me, Whites could have found a better Black for President, they want “Barrack Obama’ to appease the Muslim world into the Fruits of Democracy.
Obama can’t create anything in you Ronald. It was already there. I had a good White Buddy in Indiana, who once said to me, “Edmond, you “got” to visit my Church.” We aint like them stiff necked hard cold White Churches. He said, “if you come to my Church and don’t feel nothin’,(Shaking his head in consternation) You aint got nothin’! No Ronald. Everyone has to appear before God to give account of every Word and Thought he had while living in these Bodies of flesh. And I’m telling you, the stakes are high. God showed me the Lake Of Fire. I wouldn’t even want Muslims or Mexicans to go there.
You” never see the light again. Most of us were taught racism by evil and misquided people, even our mothers and fathers. My mother taught us to never trust a White Man. Me and my present Best Friend White Buddy came to tears when we heard Martin Luther King’s speech. He originated from Georgia. I’m from Boston. It dawned upon us at the same time the “I HAVE A DREAM” came true. A son of a former slave owner and the son of a Slave were joining hand is outright Love. So no
Ronald. We are so misguided from who God intends us to be and are so filled with fear that people are saying anything. I don’t know you but as we speak, I pray for you to be released from all hatred and animosity toward anyone, and that you love your neighbor as yourself.
In Christ, their is no race or gender, we are all one. Not our Bodies, but our Grace and Mercy. Get on you knees Sir and ask good to help you become renewed in the thinking of your mind, in Jesus Christ I Pray. Amen
        every man

      • WayneT

A very good post Edmond. Fortunately, most people will treat you like a gentleman if you deserve it, regardless of the color of your skin. We need to look at a persons qualities, not his skin color. We are what we are since we do not have any control over it. We are all God’s Children, regardless who we are. Sure, some people do have a bias against others, even within our own races. I don’t think we can ever stop that. We have to put that aside, and show respect to others if the quality of that person deserves it. I do not dislike Obama because he is an Afcican American. I dislike this ideologies, as I feel he is not representing our country properly. I am against his drilling policies for many reasons which I won’t go into here. I dislike him having spent trillions of dollars within 2 years. There are many other reasons I do not like Obama. I simply do not trust him. We need a man like Senator Colonel West to lead our nation. I feel very confident that Senator Colonel West would lead this nation in the right direction.

Judge a man not by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character. That one phrase by Dr. King stuck in my 13 year old mind way back then and it was one of the truest things I have ever heard.

I have always tried to do so – Black, White, Brown. I have not known many blacks in my time, but have known a lot of Mexes, and most were okay. To quote Booby “Sheets” Bird: “I have known a lot of White ni****rs in my life”. There just seems to be no good word for those kind of White people.

A black neighbor up the road told me one day over a beer that I treated him better than a lot of his “own kind”. I quoted Dr. King’s line from above to him and told him he was just a neighbor and friend. It was / is as simple as that.

I remember being down south with my parents and grandparents on vacation in 1960 as a 10 year old kid from up north and seeing those “Whites Only” signs. That experience confused me greatly. My parents tried “splaining” it to me and it just did not seem right. (Typical Yankee attitude!)

He did? when? It must have only been for a few seconds, and I must have blinked, because I haven’t noticed him getting out of campaign mode since taking office.

Hopefully, in 2012, we’ll elect someone who knows how to lead instead of this idiot who, when a crisis comes up, leaves the country and clearly has no idea what to do. I’d call him stupid but he isn’t smart enough to even be called that.

Well, look at it this way. I’ll bet when you were a kid – or maybe even now – when you got hold of some really good snow, blow, mj…whatever, you tried to turn your friends on to it, or to its source. Right? People are like that with things they’ve found or found out about that they appreciae and want others to be able to benefit from.
In this case it’s called “compassion, concern for one’s fellowman, love, desire to help or bless, share the benefit”…call it what you want. She’s obviously found something great and thinks it might be something “Walmart” might need.
Why do you want to denigrate and disparage that?

      • http://Illinois'17th Old Henry

        Well said Robin.

    • kodster5

Former Walmart… I feel sorry for you, through my heart and soul… and I know that’s Jesus speaking through me. To make a choice like that, hurts those of us who have Him living in us. That’s why we react, the way we do, towards those that choose to not believe in Him. To totally reject Him is hurtful.

But, God isn’t the one making the choice to put you in eternal punishment (death). You are the one making the decision. He gave us all free will, to choose between Him and death. You’ve make your choice, and you only have your time while you’re alive on earth to make that decision. After your body has given up, and you’re dead, that’s it… there’s no redemption, except for one time. You’ll be resurrected to stand before Him, on Judgment Day, to hear why you are condemned to death forever.

I pray that you will change your mind before your body says, enough, I’m done, and you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and repent your sins. Yes, we are ALL sinners, even those that have accepted Him. You’re basically no different than the rest of us that are believers… the only difference is that we acknowledge that we are sinners, and asked Him to forgive us, to accept His Son’s sacrifice on our behalf, and to turn from our sinning ways. We’re not perfect, but we strive to be. We fall down, but the difference is, we get back up and keep trying.

      Blessings to you.

This is what I have been saying all along… get rid of everybody, fire everyone, and start over, with no taint from the old cronies! But no, we have too many namby-pambies still re-electing the idiots, because “they’re better than nothing!” NO, they’re not! They’re a HUGE part of the problem!

      • Carlucci

I agree. They all have got to go (except for Drs. Ron & Rand Paul). Stop voting for incumbents. Stop voting for the “lesser of the two evils”. That’s why we are in the mess we’re in. And most of all, start focusing on your state governments! A lot can be done by practicing Nullification and it starts at the state level! Contact your state reps and let them know you support them if they “get it” and are doing a good job to try to stop Fedzilla’s tyranny. Remember – most of us live in one of the fifty states. We’ve got to get back to the way it used to be when the states had all the power (prior to FDR’s socialism).

Hey Time, Unfortunatly the only way to stop feeding these monkies is to stop paying taxes. And you see where that will land you. Eventually when they have eaten everything in sight they will either have to stop eating or turn on that lower class they created for their food. Going to get really ugly when that happens. Mike L.

  • http://sovereignsociety Jack54

    Everyone,

It would be logical at some point to establish all the real facts about the budget deficits and determine the real spending problem break downs…payroll money has been daily, weekly and monthy sent to accounts to pay for social security and medicare each and every year…the money should be there until 2035…

Now, if this money has been used for other purposes… then those responsible for unlawfull acts should be prosecuted and imprisoned…same for wars and legislation to make special interest groups wealthy…everyone talks out of both sides of their mouths…Democrats and Republicans both manipulate the system for special interest groups…until this system is corrected these problems will not go away…there is a working relationship among the elites that we can not stop or even slow down…

    Have a nice day!

    • JKO

      Amen Jack!!

    • http://?? Joe H.

      Jack54,
Unfortunately the way the social security law is written they can LEGALLY take any “surplus” dollars, the difference between what is paid in and what is paid out and use it in general fund projects and DO!!

  • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Great story! This tells me we need to clean house, or as Nancy says… drain the swamp! Term limits need to be set. The Fair Tax needs to be enacted. I read somewhere that if the Fair Tax is enacted, then the drug dealers and the rich will be paying the same! We have no choice but to cut back on entitlements. We are broke!

    • Bear

Good points Robin. Add to the term limits, there will be NO continuation of salary after leaving office as there is now. No more getting full retdirements after four years of work. That’s rediculous to begin with. Let them get a real job and contribute to Social Security like the rest of us. As for Presidents and Vice-Presidents leaving office, they will have their security personnel for only one year. Why should we pay to protect someone from what they did to us while pretending to serve us. If they want to continue having protection, let them pay for it out of their own pockets from their “book deals.” An honest person does not need protection from retribution. And for people like Carter and Clinton, once leaving office, they are forbidden from even showing their faces in any political arena. We don’t want or need any more of their political agendas being perpetuated. They’ve done enough damage. Get them the hell of the world stage.

      • DaveH

Term limits is not the solution. The problem is lack of voter education, and that won’t change with term limits. And with term limits we would have an increased number of Lame Duck Congresses where they could pass whatever bonehead legislation they wanted without fear of voter retaliation.
But I like your idea on compensation, Bear. I think we should pay all of our Government employees cash, period, no benefits. They can buy their own benefits. After all, they are our employees, aren’t they?
In fact, it would be better if all employees were paid cash. That would eliminate many unfair situations, like when two-worker families have redundant insurance coverage in which case one of the workers is essentially being compensated less. But having said that, it would be contrary to Freedom for that to be mandated by Government. It is not the business of Government to dictate employment conpensation in the private sector.

      • http://! Angel Wannabe

        “Hear Hear”, DaveH!

      • http://www.cbcofetowah.com/ Mike

Dave I dont think its as much voter education anymore> as it its politicle dishonesty. These folks have been saying and doing all the right things right up to the point they get into office. Then it becomes a payola system as to who goes to the highest bidder. And there will allways be a price if you have no backbone to begin with. Thus the crier Bonner. I bet his price was pretty low. He cries in thanks to Obama behind the cameras. Mike L. P.S I am back :)

      • DaveH

No, Mike, I think they usually say it, we just aren’t listening carefully. Remember also that actions speak louder than words.

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Dave H… Term limits may not be the solution, but they couldn’t hurt! I agree with your voter education theory. However with MSM having so much control, it won’t be easy. And, most people are not interested in how government is run. What is currently happening is an awakening, which is long overdue!

      • DaveH

Actually, Robin, they can hurt. They hurt by distracting us from the important issues and giving the Big Government architects more time to build Government even larger. We no longer have the luxury of time on our side. If we don’t act soon and vigorously, we are going to lose any chance at turnaround until our country completely collapses. And then it will be a crapshoot as to whether there are still enough people left who understand the benefits of Freedom to start our country over on the right track.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Robin,
DaveH is right, they can hurt. What happens when we get a guy or gal that firmly believes in the constitution, small government and a balanced budget? In two terms he/she is gone and we take the chance of getting someone just the opposite in!

      • Bear

Good Points there Dave. Still the term limits is very important. Look at what unionized tenure has done to industry. There are people in jobs that clearly should be terminated but that will not happen because they have tenure and are vested. They sit on their butts contributing next to nothing while contributing to higher prices and runaway cost of living. Many “career” politicians are doing the same thing. They, like a diaper, need to be changed regularly. :)

      • DaveH

We can do that without throwing the baby out with the bath water. Take Ron Paul, for instance, who has been fighting a lonely fight for Constitutional government for 30 years now. And there are others. Would you want to lose the few that are Champions of Liberty to take a crap shoot?
We just need to become more active and vigilant.

      • Vigilant

        DaveH,

I agree. I see no need for term limits on a “one size fits all” basis. Moreover, any constituency that votes in a charlatan is likely to continue voting charlatans in.

The general lack of political knowledge/interest in the electorate won’t change as a result of term limits. It is unlikely we would see a Constitutional Amendment along those lines, and I agree with you that there are much more pressing matters involved in draining the swamp.

A repeal of the 17th Amendment, and continued fighting for 10th Amendment rights, would serve to “undemocratize” the government at Federal level, as it should be. Pressures to restore the separation of powers, and the scrapping of costly/burdensome and wholly unnecessary Cabinet Depts. like Energy and Education would help, along with reining in the powers of EPA, FCC, ICC and other tools of statism.

The Federal Reserve needs to be abolished, the SCOTUS needs to be legally bound by its oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution, as does the Executive. We need to elect a Congress that understands its role under Article 1.

Federal “mandates” and grants need to be abolished for their defacto unConstitutionality. The Feds need to be told “hands off” in the areas of education, welfare and medical/insurance matters. We need out of foreign wars and entanglements, we need to balance our budget.

        And on and on….

      • Jennie

You make a good case, Bear. I only wish I could be optimistic about the ideas you put forth being put to work for this country and its citizens. It seems to me that the majority of the politicians are much more interested in being re-elected than serving their constituents. And too many voters are mainly interested in what a particular might do for them. I agree on term limits and would like to see spending limits on compaigns. Too often it is the candidates who have the most money in their “war chests” than their belief in service to their country who get elected. They can’t even see that the outcomes may be disastrous for them also. Wake up, America, before it is too late.

      • http://Illinois'17th Old Henry

        Bear:

Why should we pay to protect them for even one year? At noon on Jaunuary 20 the protection ENDS. Period. They all somehow misteriously leave office as multi-millionaires and can pay for their own protection. Once out of office they are of NO consequence to us.

Put ALL “guvment” employees on SS. Local, state, federal. Good enough for us, good enough for them.

      • GeorgeE

        Eddie47d,

Please study classical economics further. I think most of us here believe that the biggest problems with our economic system have stemmed from government meddling and interference in the economy as well as crony capitalism where politicians give favors to their friends and supporters. We believe these causes should be addressed rather than junking the capitalist system altogether.

Here’s a video by one of the great economists of our time, Dr. Milton Friedman, where he discusses capitalism with Phil Donahue. Please go ahead and watch all of the videos posted on YouTube with Dr. Friedman if you have time. I believe you will start to see the virtues of a true capital system that many of us believe in.

        Take care.

        Short story from history:

Capitalism works. Socialism does not. End of story.

      • JeffH

“Our Capitalist system created our financial headaches so maybe it needs an overhaul.”

If I may ask, what has caused the financial headaches of other nations?

…And please don’t tell me a “capitalist system” is responsible for the rest of the world’s financial headaches.

Giordano Bruno wrote this and it was published in the Neithercorp Press – 07/18/2010: Economic Meltdown – The Final Phase

In the financial life of every culture built upon faulty monetary policy, there are points at which the thin thread of economic faith; the thread that ties the entire failing system together, the thread made tangible by the hopes (and sometimes ignorance) of the general populace, finally snaps. From Ancient Rome, to Weimar Germany, to Argentina, to modern day America, no society fueled by unsustainable debt and fiat inflation can duck the ‘Fiscal Reaper’ for very long. The U.S. alone has survived since the early 1970’s (after Nixon removed the last vestiges of the gold standard) on nothing but questionable credit practices and baseless optimism, but there is a limit to the power of fantasy. This is a fact that most mainstream financial analysts and some in the American public refuse to grasp. Mere belief in the enduring nature of the marketplace is not enough; the fundamentals must also support that belief.

The bottom line; the TRUE unemployment rate of around 20% has become perpetual, and some economists are even suggesting that we accept it as a standard. The American public is now coming to realize that healthy job creation is a very distant goal, one that the government alone has no ability to achieve, bailout or no bailout…

I would really suggest those interested read this article, quite enlightening and informational.
        http://neithercorp.blogspot.com/2010/07/economic-meltdown-final-phase.html

      • http://Illinois'17th Old Henry

No eddie. The dirt-bag scum in D.C. created our financial headaches.

He’s the worst president this country has ever had, although Lincoln, Lyndon Johnson, and Carter do give him a run for the money. And his supporters are so stupid that they can’t even make a believable phony birth certificate for him.

      • Bob

Don’t forget the dictator FDR – the one who set up the socialist insecurity ponzi scheme, gave impetus to the liberal agenda, and helped the communists enslave tens of millions of people.

      • Vigilant

        Rufus,

After seeing a number of your posts, I would put you in the trained monkey class, as your leftist programming has kept you from reading the history your masters would like to suppress. Then again, it’s possible that your IQ is so low that you have difficulties feeding yourself, let alone writing a coherant sentence.

“Wom ww2 oh yea he beat nazi, people you guys take your dogma from. Sorry, I forgot.”

You can’t forget what you never knew. Since I doubt your reading abilities, have a mature adult read to you the Nazi Party Platform from 1925. There’s a reason it was called SOCIALISM, the philosophy near and dear to Chairman Obama.

The term Nazi derives from the first two syllables of “Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei,” or “National Socialist German Workers’ Party.”

As for FDR, Bob is entirely correct in his statement that FDR “helped the communists enslave tens of millions of people.” You might want to research the Yalta conference to see how FDR gave away Eastern Europe to Stalin. Then again, an idiot like you might not want to do so, since it belies your screed, and proves that history is indeed the most “inconvenient truth” for those who wish to remain ignorant.

Either way, we searched for two days straight and couldn’t find him. Three weeks later I got a call from another hunter, “Rufus” had a collar with ID and phone number on it, who said he found ole “Rufus” dead, stiff as a board up a tree. Whatever happened that day, I figure ole “Rufus” was scared to death. Never could decide whether it was the noise from the flushing birds or the shotgun blast. Oh well, never will name another dog “Rufus” again.

President Roosevelt had seventy-two advisers around him of which fifty two were Jews, and to make matters worse most of them were foreign born.
Do you think they had any influence in the policy making decisions to create socialist programs in America?
Medicare, social security and welfare were just a few of the entitlement policy’s that now have helped bankrupt America.
These so called Jews have held key positions for decades, twisting both America’s foreign policy as well as its domestic policy to meet their ends and the ends of Israel. These Jews are Communist and hide behind the Religion as a shield against American attacks. They do not worship God, as they only trust in Gold, Oil, Diamonds, Their true G,O,D.

When social security was set up, so were the work camps that put people back on the jobs. FDR’s original intent was to make social security temporary and the work camps (CCC) permanent–but congress made the switch, not FDR. FDR may not have been the best President the US ever had, and neither was Raegan; however, both had good qualities as a President so should not be villified in the manner that obama richly deserves.

When the retirement age of sixtyfive was first established, more than half of the populace died before reaching that retirement age. This was a clever ruse on the part of government to collect a “retirement” tax while expecting most of the tax payers to die before ever having a chance to collect. Unfortunatly for the politicians, the citizens began to live longer so that now the politicians have to keep their promises. This is why they want to raise the retirement age. They want us to DIE so that they will not have to pay up.

Mr. Wayne, I don’t care either, what color the dictator-in-chief is. He is, at best, the most anti-American, lawless, authoritarian, dishonest president (if you care to call him that) that I’ve ever seen. None of the past presidents in my lifetime, Carter and Nixon included, even comes close to how bad this individual is. I shudder to think of what he will do to this country in the next two years, let alone if he gets re-elected. I do not think that this country will survive another four years with him in the white House. I just wonder why there is not at least a grassroots movement afoot for impeachment of this demagogue. He certainly has committed enough impeachable offenses. He needs to be gone ASAP.

I also live in Idaho and while it’s great to vent on these web site boards, the spineless coward traitors in DC, starting with the mulatto traitor in the White House, must be removed, not by words and certainly not by the election process, ruled by massive fraud, but by arresting and prosecuting them all by whatever means necessary. Jefferson said that “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” The tyrants in our country are spineless cowards, while true patriots are battle hardened and armed to the teeth. The greatest criminals in American history exist in the White House, the Congress, the Judiciary and in state and local governments. They make people on death row seem rather benign by comparison. There isn’t anyone on death row that is guilty of the willful killing of a nation of over 300 million people. We soldiers took an oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC………..The number one enemy of America is our own government and the progressive communists we’ve allowed to breath our air.

The government is pushing the people over a cliff. The people must decide whether to jump or push the government over the cliff. If you care about your loved ones, this only one choice. Our founders gave us the prescription to overcome tyranny, our current government, in the Declaration and the Constitution. If they were alive today we be forming a new Continental Army. I believe the military, if given the choice, will back their veteran brothers, families and the people, who are they actually work for.

Think about it, where has talk gotten us, nowhere, thats where. Our freedoms and liberty are gone and our sacred Constitution is violated on a daily basis. Every single one of these parasites in our tyrannical government are guilty of treason and sedition. The question remains, when is enough, enough!

Great post! And thank you for your service.

I just bought a tee shirt with that very quote on it. You can get one at patriotdepot.com

They are down in GA and have great products and good service.

In my fuzzy old mind I see Little Barry pulling the Marshall Law trick in about 16 or 17 months if the polls show him as outta there in November of 2012. That will cancel the election and put the military in charge across the nation.

This half-breed Kenyan has no intention of ever leaving our WH.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Old Henry,
you can also get pocket sized copies of the constitution there, I bought seven and then twelve more. A good Idead would be for ALL of us to get a copy and all of us send one to Nobummer and our reps and see if they get the message!!! you’ll be helping a small company stay in business, as well!!!!

      • http://Illinois'17th Old Henry

        JoeH:

Yes, I have purchased some copies of the Constitution from them. You have a good idea regarding Little Barry, but he will probably simply throw it into a fireplace in OUR WH.

I have purchased several tee shirts from Patriot Depot. (Do we now pronounce the “T”?)

      • DaveH

        Void,
I think the answer to your question lies in the blantantly Unconstitutional action in Libya. Servicemen swear to uphold the Constitution. Yet they are still there.
Remember the most important part of their brainwashed training is to follow orders.

      • sidewinderaz

You are quite right about our soldiers. But there will be those who will blindly follow orders. Also the main reason Obummer and his pals want a civillian security force is for this reason. They will all be brainless wannabe police (like the TSA) who will gladly shoot you in the back or the back of the head. Just like our imposter in chief, they are cowards.

The only reason that impeachment is NOT a viable option; IS that the corrupt, democratic majority in the senate will never impeach one of their own, regardless of any offenses which he may commit.

If it has to be hidden that well, there is a much more basic problem!!

But how many honest investigators will we have to sacrifice before we will know the honest and full truth??

    • JKO

I think it’s all politicians not just Obama. And I will say what I have said several times on this sight – I have a constitutional right to be a racist (as long as I do not inflict harm on the person I am being racist toward). And “you” have the right to not hire me, to fire me, or to not use my goods or services. Now I am proving myself to be stupid when I do this, but stupidity is not unconstitutional either – have you listen to our politicians lately.
And since I am a person of at least 3 races I find it difficult to be a racist.

      • DaveH

We will never get rid of racism. Fear of things or people similar to those which caused earlier pain in our lives is a survival mechanism that is probably inate but maybe learned. For instance, very few people would be so unbiased as to climb into a bear cage. But not all bears will eat people immediately, especially if well fed. Think I’m daft? Watch the movie “Grizzly Man” about Timothy Treadwell who lived amongst the bears for 13 years before finally meeting his death. Yet we still know better than to climb into that cage.
Unfortunately, those fears often turn into harmful actions against the source of our fears. That is morally wrong and we should strive as intelligent people to eliminate those kinds of prejudice that result in harm to others.
Should we strive to put aside those prejudices and judge people on their own merits? Of course! But we can’t force that on people. It often causes resentment and results in more bias, not less.
I believe that the best thing we could do to eliminate bias in the workforce is to get Government out of the Marketplace. With Government involvement, fear of liability lawsuits is added to what may already be bias towards the applicant based on their personal status (sex, race, etc.), so prospective employers sometimes go out of their way to find excuses to not hire that “protected” person. I have personally witnessed that sort of behavior.
Contrast that with Free Markets, where the companies that produce the best products succeed, as opposed to those who feather the nests of the right politicians. There would still often be bias, but the smart companies, the ones who hired the best workers regardless of race, sex, etc., would be the companies that produced the best products and services and thus succeed in the Free Marketplace.
Get Government out of our markets!

      • barbm

sure dude, la raza unida – not racist. naacp – not racist. anybody can be a racist. in this case, nobody was calling anybody in d.c. a monkey. it was just a story about real monkeys to make a point. and when people use racial slurs, it is hurtful. if you hurt people, you do cause them harm. i don’t know about everybody else, but i find it difficult to take seriously anything that comes out of a mouth that uses racial language. also, it reflects on the other people in a group – other people who are smart enough to make their point without using racist words.

      • JKO

I agree with you barbm. My point is that I get really tired of people calling me a racist because they don’t agree with what I have to say. I am a dudet by the way. I live on a reservation right now working as a middle school teacher and my kids will tell me I am being a racist when they don’t like something I say. I ask them why – to prove their point. They will usually just look at me. (And I have never said a racist thing to them.) Then I ask them if it is because they think I am white and they will nod. I then inform them that I am white, but also Native American and Black – which surprises them.
We have come to the point that if I disagree with the President I am automatically against him because he is black (even though he is 1/2 white). I have never had a problem with his skin color, but his policies. And even if I explain exactly what I disagree with I can still be called a racist. So I have begun to use the argument that I did in my previous post. My students call me fat sometimes because I am, but I have decided not to let that offend me. If they start referring to any of my races I will choose not to be offended, it is just words. Now if one kid calls another something bad, I step in and deal with it and explain to the speaker where they are being inappropriate.
There are many problems in America and I believe that we need to stop bringing up someone’s racism as THE answer when in truth a person’s opinion usually has little to do with racism.

      • Bruce D.

JKO, you are right to try to deprogram your kids. The word racism is used as a form of mind control now. The left has come to use it as ‘anyone who disagrees with me politically is a racist’. The same holds true for the word anti-semite. It is not used as much anymore because many Jews are turning against Obama for his lack of support for Israel and the National debt. I told my Jewish friend who is waking up that Obama needs Jewish support to win in 2012 and they can make a difference. I am on his e-mail list and can see who else is on his list to know that Jews are turning against Obama and really are moving away from the older generation who help to hijack the Democrat party in the 60s that made Marxism mainstream.

      • kodster5

Good for you, JKO! If anyone hasn’t noticed, it’s when the label “racist” gets used, it’s the very last resort, when they have nothing else to justify why they feel they do. And you KNOW they’re against the wall when they do. Because after they use the “racist” card, then they shut down, because they have nothing left to fight with. In their minds, that’s it, nothing left to defend their viewpoint with, and it’s all YOUR problem.

The children in your class have been programmed by their families to call all whites suppressing racists. In their minds, it’s all the whites’ faults for the predicament they’re in. But if they’re on a reservation, how many of them are on welfare, unable to work, because of severe alcoholism, etc? And, yes, it’s a genetic disposition of Native Americans. Of course, if our forefathers had never introduced firewater to the Native Americans, then we would never likely experienced the problems we have had. I hope I don’t come across as “racist” because I’m not. Just stating facts that the Native Americans haven’t been treated right, from the get-go, especially since if it wasn’t for their forefathers, we would have never survived to colonize America!

      • Elaine James

I am calling the liberal greedy politicians, trained monkeys! Speak English please, so we, who don’t understand, speak or read Spanish, will know what you are saying! This is North America, not Mexico! I have worked all of my adult life and I am a tax payer. Some foreignors are coming to North America to get an education, have their babies and to commit criminal acts. Fortunately, a few foreignors become law-abiding, fellow tax-payers and are not a drain of our resources. Some foreignors, who are here getting a college education, will return to their native country only to leave Americans to foot the bill! The rest will bring their relatives over here for us to provide their healthcare, food and housing! Foreignors used to have to come Ellis Island and they had to have a sponsor. Sponsors had to provide work, housing and food for those that they sponsored! It needs to be that way now. People who come to North America and commit crimes, should be shot, not imprisoned or deported!

you are correct – that is more than tacky. Barrack Obama is not stupid, he is socialist. See, just in 2 years America is completely and irreversibly changed. Capitalism destroyed so quickly and American people are continuing watching how U.S is collapsing. I think Obama is smart; he doesn’t get any strong opposition against him. Some politicians are afraid being called “racist” and they are just waiting what will be next.

First of all, Clinton did not get rid of the budget deficit. He was there, that was all. The budget balancing was done by actions of the Republicans:
        http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=5656

Secondly, the Democrats (who rarely see a spending bill they don’t love) were complicit in the Bush spending frenzy years (especially the last two when Democrats controlled the Congress).
Get over blaming one party or the other. Both Parties have been complicit in building the Leviathan Government that is currently sucking the life out of our economy.

Following the Bush WH warning; good ole boy, Barney Frank said in 2008 – “These two entities—Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. “The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

Nothing like a dim bulb comment…and he and Democrat Senator Dodd were in charge. I guess their kickbacks made it all worthwhile.

      • GeorgeE

        DaveH,

Libertarians definitely have the right idea about economic matters, and there’s no doubt in my mind that our number one issue right now, and probably for the foreseeable future, will be economic driven by government fiscal discipline; ie, primarily controlling spending. All libertarians and conservatives of all political parties should endorse this view and rally around this philosophy and candidates that we think will make this their top priority. If this isn’t done quickly, there will be no money left for anything but servicing the debt. Then everything is lost including all of the programs and benefits we each hold dear.

Regarding social issues, I’m not inclined to quickly agree with many of the libertarian views I hear expressed. However, I am inclined to think if we can get back to a balanced budget over the long term (you can’t do that by increasing tax rates), the government will be forced to withdraw from many of the social, environmental, defense, etc. programs it is currently funding while stimulating the economy (primarily by keeping tax rates low and relaxing non-productive regulations on businesses). That should help clear our minds about what’s really important for government to get involved in and may bring us closer together in the long run on many of the social issues that divide us today.

      • DaveH

        GeorgeE,
Do not confuse our stance of Freedom with our personal morality. We believe that people have the natural right to control their own bodies and property as long as they don’t trespass on the bodies and property of others.
So, for instance, people would have the right to put poisons in their body (drugs, sugar, whatever). But if they harm others in the process, they should be punished. And I’m not talking about mental harm. Everything we do harms one person or the other mentally.
By acknowledging their freedom to control their own bodies and property, we are not promoting their bad behavior. I, for instance, am a relative teetotaler. I have taken one puff on one marijauna cigarette one time in my life. And I rarely drink. In fact, I am a bit of a health food nut. I encourage others to do the same. But if they choose otherwise, it is their business, not mine.
Besides that, the drug wars have accomplished nothing more than enriching the worst segment of society (drug lords), and degrading our Constitutional liberties, oftentimes even resulting in the deaths of innocents at the hands of drug warriors as well as drug pushers.
The drug wars are a failure.
Portugal got their heads out and decriminalized drugs 10 years ago and they haven’t regretted it:
        http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=10080

      • GeorgeE

        DaveH,

I don’t philosophically disagree with anything you’ve said. It’s only when we get down to details that I may have a problem. At any rate, I think we’d be better off right now just staying focused on our number one priority; ie, reducing federal government debt. That’s something most of us can agree on and must be dealt with very quickly or nothing else will matter much anyway. If we spend time debating other issues, it will only serve to divide us and that plays right into the hands of those who want a socialist government and society.

      • Mike in MI

        GeorgeE -
I think there will be little problem deciding how to control spending or where to put any profit ANYBODY is able to generate when every last penny of it will have to go towards paying interest on the debt. Of course that might put somewhat of a kaibash on any growth or any kind of prosperity – except for the elitists who can make laws or get laws passed that exempt them from paying taxes, fees or other parts of any financial burden borne by the “ordinary” serfs.
Anybody want a big serving of feudalism? It happened before for a millenium.
Who brought an end to it? Wycliffe, Luther, Tindale and such. The “Enlightement” could never have transpired without the prior Reformation. Those men of God and ther fearless teaching were the ones who reset the monkeys’ mental patterns and set them free from fear of the “cold-water-wash” the RCC had put on their souls for those 1000 years.

        http://libertarianparty.org/news/press-releases/libertarians-speak-against-obamas-war-on-poker

      • GeorgeE

        DaveH,

This is one social issue I agree with Libertarians on. There are many because I don’t think there is much (or any) difference as to the principle of maximizing personal liberty. The problem is always in the details as to how far we should go one way or the other.

        Thanks,

      • Harold Olsen

Bush may have started this current recession but he could only spend the money that the Democrat congress allowed him to spend. They willingly gave him all the money he wanted. They, not Bush, controlled the money. Since taking office, Obama has spent more money than all previous presidents combined because he has had a democrat congress who gives him everything he wants and they don’t even bother reading the legislation they pass because they don’t give a damn. Everything Obama has done since taking office convinces me that his sole goal is to destroy our country and the best way to do that is to destroy our economy, which he is doing. The Democrats in congress are his willing allies and the Republicans, who now control the House, do not have the courage, nor, probably, the desire to stop him. All we get from politicians of both parties is lip service. The Republicans say what they believe we want to hear and then they screw us.

      • GeorgeE

        Harold,

I think politicians are like the monkeys that Chip describes in this article. They really believe that they will get re-elected by continuing on with the big government spending programs that they’ve always done. If we want them to get focused on the deficit and reducing the debt, the public has got to stay focused on these priorities over the long term. Policitians will eventually figure out “who is buttering their bread.”

      • http://Illinois'17th Old Henry

        Harold:

For six years Bushy had a Republican Congress. They spent like idiots. Remember Medicare Part D? That boondoggle was predicted to cost 44 billion the first year. It ended up around 75 billion, and growing. Bushy never vetoed a single bill during the Republican rein.

Bush, as Little Barry, was a tool of the NWO – a stooge. Boehner, Cantor, McConnell, et al were complicit during Bushy’s spend-a-thon and now they are still part of the problem – not the solution.

Also, do not forget that Little Barry was in the Senate under Bushy and voted for ALL of Bushy’s spending. And he said it was not enough. Now the little communist dirt-bag runs around blaming Bush.

      • JKO

If you are talking to me, Ralph, I was complaining about some of Bush’s stuff too. And Clinton did not have surpluses he had Reagan’s surpluses which were gone as Clinton left office. And Reagan failed in his presidency to cut spending as much as he cut taxes. I could go on, but I think you get my point. I am 54 and have followed politics my whole adult life. I try to speak only about things I have researched and understand. AND if I am wrong I am not afraid to admit it.

You bring up a good point — the socialists (they really shouldn’t be called “liberals” because they don’t favor liberty) are increasingly trying to label us good guys a racist. The truth is that we are the decent people and they are the racists. They favor what is euphemistically called “affirmative action” which is outright racial discrimination. Always challenge them with that. It is an indefensible position. Everyone who favors that corrupt and immoral legislation is a racist.

It’s a mystery to me how he can even peel a banana to eat it, when he’s sitting on his hands all the time.

      • Chris

Steve B….It wasn’t that intelligent the first time; you didn’t have to repeat it.

      Dan,

The trained monkeys were clearly identified as Congressmen, not the president.

        Vigilant,

I think the American public can be described as “monkeys” as well. We’ve been conditioned over time to believe that the federal government should step in whenever there’s a problem or a perceived problem. And, we’ve typically rewarded politicians who go to Washington to give the federal government more and more control over our lives and our money. This has led to the situation we now find ourselves in, and must stop very quickly or all is lost. We can sit back and blame one party or the other, one politician or the other, lobbyists, etc. etc. etc. for our problems, but there are very few politicians who would do the things they have done and are doing if they didn’t think they would be rewarded with our votes. And if the politicians aren’t moving fast enough to suit us, I submit the real cause is that we haven’t made our case in strong enough terms to the American people because we haven’t won a large majority of their hearts and minds yet. That’s where the real battle lies, I think. Politicians come and go (some stay way too long…..), but our culture, values, ethics, morals, biases tend to stay around a long time.

      • Vigilant

Good posting. I agree with you implicitly and explicitly.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        GeorgeE,
Speak for yourself, paleface! I have never depended on the government to supply anything, except weapons when I was in service! I learned how to make a few of those as well!My and my wifes hard work is what has provided for us and our three children up to now and hopefully beyond!! All I ask of the government is to leave me alone as long as I don’t break any of their damnedable laws!!

        Joe H
I don’t know what work has to do with my subject but, Like you, I also have many Jewish friends, and the information I wrote about comes from them.
We discuss world politics often, and they are very concerned for our country, as are we.
They also are very hard workers, from incredible families who beleive in God and treat others as they would be treated.
The only difference between them and the reformed Jew, is they love God and America. The reformed Jew is progressive, a non-believer and anti-American.
If you would like to educate yourself on current Jewish affairs, please read “To Eliminate The Opiate” by Rabbi Marvin Antlemann.
This incredible book was written in 1974, but explains our current world like no other.
The Religious Jews are battleing the evil but are overwhelmed.
They know that all Religions have been corrupted by these evil people and because of them, we are living in a world where faith is discouraged.
Keep your faith in God no matter how corrupt the leaders are, for they will soon perish. They will pay for eternity.
Anything touched by man will be corrupted, but God is pure.
Our elected leaders in America have corrupted our country, and they also will pay with their souls. They have sold us out to the devil.
It was with Gods touch that this incredible nation was born, where everyone could succeed and create ones own happiness, beleive as they wished and prosper if they chose.
Now a Communist country, with a 200 million man army is comming our way. They are buying up the world with Americas debt, and will soon be the largest economy and industrialized nation on the planet, a Godless nation!
Americas dream has turned to a nightmare we will all witness soon.
        They have sold us out!
        Keep your faith!
Keep close with your family. Laugh, love and enjoy each day with them.
Try to prepare as much as possible for tough times to come.
Teach your family and friends of the comming storm, and pray all will be pardoned the comming wrath.
God Bless America, and all who fight for her!!!!

        Void1972:

Very eloquently stated! And right on point.

“God Bless America”. Yes, but think about it. Why should He?

      • GeorgeE

        “Paleface”?????? My ancestors were Cherokee……………..ha.

Good for you. There are very, very few people today who can say they don’t take anything from the government. Keep up the good work.

I’ll make a note so that next time I refer to the “American people” I’ll be sure to add “except for JeffH” right after………………….ha.

      • GeorgeE

Sorry, I should have said “Joe H”, not “JeffH”.

    • Average Joe

I am so darn tired of having to be politically correct in everything I say and do in the world…for fear of hurting someone elses’ feelings.
Boo frigging Hoo! Even here, I have to watch what I say or I don’t get published……sad but true. Sometimes you just have to call an idiot an idiot….a spade a spade etc. If someone is offended by those comments…so be it….you can either stay here (or wherever) and argue your point or….go elsewhere, nobody is forcing anyone to be anywhere that they don’t wish to be…period….If someone is acting like an a**hole…why shouldn’t they be told so by other members of the community…and in a manner of which they deserve?
Don’t get me wrong, I am a strong advocate for civility in any discussion…..there still remains a certaim amount of obvious stupidity spewed forth from the mouths of complete idots and morons…that needs to be adressed in a proper manner.
While the PC people may be able to polish their turd, they will never convince me that it is possible to pick it up by the clean end.

      • http://! Angel Wannabe

Average Joe, I love the terd analogy!__You go Buddy!

      • Average Joe

Since the PC people have coined a phrase (politically correct), I’d like like to coin my own: UC, “Unapologetically Correct” (to speak one’s mind)….that is what I am…lol

      • http://! Angel Wannabe

Average Joe, I don’t comply with the PC crowd either, never did, and I’m NOT about start now_If the PC-ers don’t like what I say, then turn me off or tune me out! :)

      • Average Joe

I guess that makes you UC too…we’ve started a new fringe group… now we need more members…..gotta run those PCer’s out of the country…look out, I see a lot of hurt feelings from the bleeding hearts crowd.
I’ll start by tossing this out….. Getting an award ribbon for showing up…..is not really an award….also ran….doesn’t really count…and no, we’re are not going to buy the team a pizza in celebration of your loss…..
Now that should hurt a few feelings….lol

      • independant thinker

I used to make and sell wall plaques that said “Politicaly incorrect and proud of it”. Feel free to make your own if you want.

      • http://! Angel Wannabe

        independent thinker, I love it!

      • Cawmun Cents

I have always considered myself Unapologetically Opinionated(a euphemism for an a$$#ole)But whether I am correct or not is open to debate I suppose.Bravo…AJ!UC can become an institution on this thred…haw!

      • Vigilant

Under “political views” on my Facebook page, it says, “the incorrect ones, of course.”

      • http://Illinois'17th Old Henry

        AJ

I guess I am also a UCer, and always have been. Now, as disussed earlier this week, we need a SYMBOL for our “movement”.

      • http://! Angel Wannabe

Old Henry__ a symbol, How about a Terd, held by the CLEAN end!__LMAO!

      • Harold Olsen

Personally, I refuse to be politically correct. I consider it cowardly. I say what I mean and mean what I say and don’t give a damn if I hurt someone’s feelings and I won’t apologize for doing so.

      • http://! Angel Wannabe

At’s what say too Harold! :)

  • Vigilant

    Outstanding article, Mr. Wood.

Biden’s slumber is symbolic of what most of America is doing right now. The “takers,” fat, dumb and happy, are sleeping through the fire that’s burning the house down. And the RINO/Dem. Fire Dept. is on strike.

    • Elaine James

Yes, Obama’s speech was so boring that it put Biden to sleep. I saw Biden sleeping during Obama’s speech as the camera scanned the audience. I thought to myself, even Biden knows that Obama is doing a lot of talking but not saying anything that he hasn’t already heard. Yes, Congress and the Senate is full of trained monkeys!!! And Obama is ahead of them all! And, I see nothing racist in my remark! We do need to clean both houses and elect people that are not in governmental positions to feather their own nests while their constituents are just bearly getting by. We don’t need to tax employers heavier! That is the socialist way of running a government! Capitalist governments and societies are much wealthier. People are naturally greedy and power hungry. However, some people are not controlled by the desire for power and the desire to grab all of the money they can get their hands on. It is people who are not controlled by the sin nature, that we need in congress and the senate and as the President of the United States. Unfortunately, there are more people in politics who are driven by greed and who are power hungry!!!
