15 More Minutes

Truth be told, there are worse choices for the White House; some of whom aren’t even Democrats. It’s not as if the guy has committed murder; as long as you don’t count the intellectual tenor of primetime television—which was on life support anyway. I just think there are some candidates who are a great deal less… cartoonish. So, someone please pull the plug on the Donald Trump experiment.

I don’t have a real problem with The Donald, but I don’t have a real problem with Trump’s fellow reality TV star Bret Michaels. They’re both marginally entertaining, both surrounded by weird people and hot women and both were bigger in the 1980s. That doesn’t mean I think moderate-to-severe financial issues, tabloid-fodder living and pitiful attempts to hide profound baldness are any higher on the list of Presidential qualifications than—say—being a “community organizer.”

Of late, Trump has been polling in the 30s against a low-to-mid 40s showing for President Barack Obama. Now, before those of you who have climbed aboard the Trump express begin shouting “It’s EARLY, Ben! Give the guy a chance!”—jump back to the 1990s with me for a moment.

About 15 years ago, NBC (which airs Trump’s program “The Apprentice”) aired a sitcom called “NewsRadio.” One of the players on “NewsRadio”—a billionaire named Jimmy James—ran for president. While his prodigious wealth makes his campaign newsworthy, it soon becomes abundantly clear that James is running for President because he “wants to meet girls.”

I doubt Trump joined this fray in order to meet girls. The guy seems to be catnip to women with Winter Olympics-type accents. Plus, Trump may be a player, but he’s not grossly stupid. He surely remembers Bill Clinton’s eight years treating the Oval Office like Craigslist, and all Bubba got was a perjury record and lifetime status as a punch line.

But I cannot shake this nagging feeling that Trump, who has essentially played himself in every modern venue from the gossip pages of the lower-rung tabloids to the upper echelon of primetime television, is playing himself onto the greatest stage of the modern age: The campaign for Leader of the Free World.

Trump self-promotes the way politicians lie. Given his visceral desire for media attention, I suspect that even if he is serious about running and even if he managed to win—a mighty big if—he’d spend more time posing for Presidential photographs than he would actually BEING President. Looking at the sanctimonious buffoon who has the job now, we certainly don’t need another empty chair behind the Resolute Desk.

Many of you have offered an ear to Trump because of his “investigation” of Obama’s citizenship. (Obama’s ham-fisted mishandling of this one has kept it in play. However, barring a miracle, it’s never going to happen for the “birthers.” Knowing what I know about liberal logic, even IF someone were to irrefutably prove Obama was born on Pluto, the Democrats would probably ignore the Constitution… again.)

Trump may be a lot of things, but stupid is not among them. By provoking the “birthers,” he is likely hoping to gain their trust, and galvanize their Presidential blessing. But there are three flaws in his logic:

  1. The “birthers” don’t represent a large enough subset of voters to swing even a primary.
  2. He’s making the same mistake as the Democrat Party; he’s underestimating the “birthers’” intelligence.
  3. The birth-certificate (or lack thereof) issue isn’t going to be enough to hold together a long-run campaign. Obama’s unrivaled incompetence has left the economy idling at the stoplight, the military stretched even thinner than it was when he took office and the nation more divided than it has been since U.S. Grant made Robert E. Lee say “uncle.” Obama’s 2012 successor will need a lot more than just an affidavit from a stateside hospital to grab the political brass ring.

Throw in Trump’s rather checkered past vis-à-vis monetary donations to some seriously shady Democrat characters, and the recipe for a Presidential soufflé falls very flat. Lest you require further assurance, Charles Krauthammer and our own John Myers—two of the smarter cats on the planet—aren’t necessarily buying what Trump’s selling, either.

Closer to November 2012, I’ll share my thoughts on my choice for President. For now, someone call Trump and tell him his latest 15 minutes are up.

So far I am glad to see a Donald Trump step up to the plate and rattle the elitist of both parties, especially the RINO’s and the lib Deemers. His impact has been to show the right that a good soild attack with fact and question can be mounted to overcome the barrier of lies built by the left in order to protect their precious power hold.

The fact is the Mystery Man has weaknesses, no validated BC is a fact and the question is why not? The right side ask but the RINO’s just think that is silly to say these things, so the questions go unanswered and the lefts barrier of rubble remains unchallenged. Trump has stormed the hedgerows with a new tank tool and has the name, visibility and money to keep rolling. This leaves both the left and right hierarchy in dissaray and the right is now breathing down the necks of the left asking, “Where is your BC?” and with all the legal restraint to protect this uncredentialed clown, more questions a demanding answers and the RINO’s need to step out of the way.

    • JeffH

ONTIME, I tend to agree with you. Nothing like throwing a wrench in gear to sir things up. He is going into areas of discussion where the politicians refuse to go. Whether he’s presidential material or not, I don’t know and won’t make a hurried judgement, but I do like his direction.

FYI…have you seen the hype for the new #1 NY Times Best Seller penned by Jerome Corsi…promises to be a game-changer on the issue of Barack Obama’s eligibility.

It’s called “Where’s the Birth Certificate? The Case that Barack Obama is Not Eligible to Be President.”

The result of more than two years of solid investigative research by Corsi and a team of WND reporters and editors, this book is destined to be a huge bestseller and change the dynamics of the debate over eligibility – IF, of course, the book is not spiked by the hostile establishment media.

  • Bitter Libertarian

Wait a minute here…Trum isd Blaming China & OPEC for our economy?
Forgive me if I missed NAFTA, sending jobs overseas TO CHINA & the federal reserve printing money like its toilet paper DEVALUING the dollar CAUSING OPEC to charge MORE dollars per BBL….

I dont Dislike TRUMP, BUT CMON! Pointing the fingers at China & Opec is like blaming Japan for the earthquake..its ABSURD.

We all should know by now that any Business that wants to increase their bottom line only need to fire up shops in China where there are no Unions, OSHA, LaborBoard, Fire codes, EPA, or BAR association! Thats NOT China’s FAULT thats our own Politicians who sold our Country out.

Blaming OPEC is as equally insane…so why doesnt TRUMP get this???

    • IreneK

Haven’t you been paying attention? He *has* brought up all of those points. And if you think he’s simply *blaming* OPEC & China, then you really haven’t been listening. The bulk of the blame has been towards the “leaders” of this country. OPEC & China are simply doing what they can get away with.

      • Bitter Libertarian

Perhaps yopu need to watch his interview..he clearly stated that China & OPEC are at fault.

      • IreneK

I have watched his many interviews. And it still comes down to the fact that China and OPEC are doing what they can get away with and the current leadership is doing nothing about it. So in a way, I guess, they can be blamed, but the biggest blame goes to the so-called representative of the people who are a bunch of do-nothings. Meanwhile, China & OPEC run roughshod over American because, well, they *can*. Who’s going to stop them?

      • Skeptic Al

        Bitter Libertarian:
You are absolutely correct today. Trump is blaming OPEC and China. This will get votes. Telling people to look in the mirror for the blame will get you nowhere. Trump / Palin ?? How about Mickey Mouse/ Inanimate object (rock or stick)!! Ron Paul is the only real candidate among those mentioned so far. But all these people would not like the bitter medicine needed to recover this country. My prediction; Trump or some other goofball will win the Republican nomination and then Obama will win and we will go down the tubes even more.

    • Rufus

It is your own fault for buying all that stuff from china that wal mart has forced on you. Companies moved to china because they can pay nothing for labor cost. We can have the jobs back if you are willing to work for nothing. Politicians work for the corporations. So, why are you surprised when they do their bidding. The wall street bankers are laughing their asses off as we blame everyone else about state of our economy. We are our own worst enemy by believing the bs and getting distracted what is really the cause for economic collapse.

      • IreneK

Actually, companies moved to China for several reasons. One was Clinton gave China “favored nation status” during his presidency. Then there’s the problem of regulations that have gone from reasonable and necessary to truly stupid. And there’s minimum wage which has resulted in record numbers of unemployed teens and companies picking up where they don’t have to spend all of their capital just to get past these mazes and can get down to actually doing business. This is a global economy, and we have to compete in it.

      • Rufus

As I said, if you willing to work for nothing. Labor laws and environmental laws are huge drivers. However, they help create the middle class. Gave us safer working conditions. They gave us clean air and water. No more burning rivers. It is a global economy, I do not want the US being turned into a third world country.

      • 45caliber

With all our companies moving to other countries due to the excessive regulations, our third world status is coming.

I’m not saying that all regulations are bad. But we have far too many that require far too much duplicated effort, which costs a lot of time and money to ANY business. Too many can’t afford them.

It is true that labor is cheaper in other countries. It is cheaper primarily because the labor there isn’t trained and have few skills. If you are working with computers and other electronics, cheap labor is a waste of time.

      • bob wire

Yea ! maybe we need to move too! ~ Find us a little grass hut somewhere, plant a little garden and raise chickens.

  • chuckb

i’m still asking the question, why are some people so upset with others who question where barry was born? doesn’t the constitution state a person must be a naturalized citizen to be president, yet the wimpy republicans are joining the bolsheviks in using the term birther if they ask where is the bc. i have no idea what is in d trumps mind regarding his intentions or statements he has made and is making. he has changed his mind on several issues and did praise barry when he ran for potus. there were lots of people suckered in by this street con. trump made contributions to people i wouldn’t buy a cup of coffee for, these could have possibly been for favors he was seeking in his business dealings, his remarks about reagan worry me, otherwise he, palin and bachman are the only ones who stand up and speak out and saying whay needs to be said, all the rest of the crowd are making nothing more than the same old republican rehtoric ands as you see the way boehner is running the congress, nothing has changed.
so i’ll take a gamble on trump if he’s serious and honest about what he is saying and i don’t doubt palins sincerity and ability.
try getting a passport with a newspaper clipping showing you were born.

  • barbm

i changed my mind about politics too. when i was in college, i was a dem. hey, they teach you to be like that. but then i graduated and had to find a job. when that 1st paycheck had so much taken out and i figured out where it was going, i changed my mind and became a rep. i still have some of those beliefs like clean air and water and no nukes but am firmly entrenched on the conservative side of issues otherwise. trump graduated a loooong time ago, so why is he flip-flopping at this late stage? so he can get elected on the tea party’s coat tails. i do NOT trust him to hold to those principles once elected. of course he gave both parties donations, he was LOBBYING!! isn’t that something we want to see stopped? i remember years ago when he was trying to get some city to give him use of land that would require the application of imminent domain for a private business venture. isn’t that something we want to see STOPPED? you people who want to elect him need to see beyond the birther thing. do i think o might not be elegible to hold the office of potus? yep. is that my main concern in finding somebody to take his place? hell, no.

    • Robin from Arcadia, IN

barbm… Barry when campaigning was against those who were in Washington to lobby. Had a friend vote for him for that very reason. HA! What a joke that was on her, huh? And what happened to that red marker he was going to use on the bills as they came through? You can find something wrong with every person. Personally I am so disgusted with the politicians, I honestly believe anyone who is not a politician would do a better job! So let’s get behind a nonpolitician who has been around the block a few times. I cannot believe he would be worse than Barry….

      • barbm

i didn’t say he’d be worse than o. i don’t want to vote for somebody because they’d be better than what we have. i want to vote for somebody because i believe he/she has our country’s best interests at heart. that would not be trump.

      • libertytrain

barbm – re your “i want to vote for somebody because i believe he/she has our country’s best interests at heart”

Wouldn’t that be a pleasant change of pace -

      • Carlucci

Yes it would. That’s why all the encumbents have to go, except for the Doctors Paul.

    • IreneK

Lobbying won’t be stopped. Period. It’s entrenched, and frankly, it’s not one of our worst problems. Getting access to our own sources of energy (which will create jobs), getting rid of silly regulations (notice I said *silly* – not *all*), enforcing our borders and immigration laws, shoring up our dollar and our standing in the world, defending our sovereignty, cutting back spending, getting rid of our debt to China (among others), etc., etc., etc. are all pressing. And as long as the government keeps spending the way that it is, no amount of tax gouging will help.

  • Brad P

I have to give it to the only man who is willing to go “mano a mano” with the incumbent. All the others vying for the GOP slot seem to be limp and weak. PC is not going to win the next election. Leadership is. Trump and Herman Cain. Wow! Two individuals who might actually start to run this country as a profit-earning enterprise…

    • barbm

if it can be proven that herman cain is for auditing the fed, i’d go for him, but he said he was against it and worked for the kansas city fed for a while. and that was just a few short months ago. this is from the dailypaul site. since it’s ron paul, maybe you folks will believe it. http://www.dailypaul.com/153575/herman-cain-2012-hopeful-theres-no-reason-to-audit-the-federal-reserve

    • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Brad P… I had also thought of that combination! Wow! Trump/Cain!

      • barbm

hello, did you not catch the part about cain thinking we don’t need to audit the fed? if you just want a black man with no political background, how about west? he’s as qualified and black as cain. both are black and neither is qualified. i just can’t get beyond the fact that he was chairman of the k.c. fed and thinks there should be no audit. and west is a military man who just might think war is great. we need to be very careful whom we choose to back and need to find somebody that the majority will vote for. so far, ron paul is the only one we all seem to agree on, but manyu of us also agree that the msm will NOT let him win. and you can bet your cowboy boots the media is in charge for waaaay too many people.

      • IreneK

No, all of us don’t agree that Ron Paul is the best candidate. I like the fact that unlike Cain, he wants to audit the Fed, but otherwise… The fact of the matter is that no one candidate is going to be perfect. Right now I’m leaning towards Trump because he has the cajones to take on the hard topics and ask the hard questions. Whether it’s on energy, trade, American sovereignty, the border, and yes, the off-limits questions about the birth certificate, his “in your face” attitude is refreshing. And it’s good to see that there’s someone who really wants to make sure that America and Americans prosper.

  • iam

If any of you go out and try to get a job in this country, you will be REQUIRED to prove that you are a U.S. citizen. THAT is why the foul stench infesting the White House should be REQUIRED to prove the same.

  • barbm

gary johnson worked his way through college as a handy man. when he graduated, he started a construction company with one employee – himself. he has built an empire from that. he was governor of n.m. for 8 years leaving only because of term limits.

Dear friend of liberty and fellow mountaineer,

Today, from the steps of the New Hampshire Capitol, I am announcing that I am formally declaring myself a candidate; I will be actively, passionately seeking the Republican nomination for the office of President.

In announcing my candidacy for President of the United States, I am setting out on the long path ahead, but I am not alone. I’ve always enjoyed climbing mountains, but this one is unique. I’m looking forward to this challenge, as I know that you will be beside me as a friend of liberty and a supporter of my candidacy.

Your taking the step to contribute now to our campaign is the most important step you can make right now on behalf of this effort.

About a year and a half ago, I began traveling around the country and speaking about issues of the day. Americans in all 50 states are deeply concerned about our country’s future. They’re concerned about the enormous debt we have accrued, and they’re concerned about the precarious economic situation that has been created by decades of overspending. Most Americans understand that serious changes are needed, and that we can’t afford to simply kick the can down the road for another four or eight years.

We should know by now that kicking the can down the road will just make the needed solutions seem even more difficult. We must address these problems, and there is no time as good as the present to begin this needed reassessment of American government.

So why am I the right person to serve as America’s 45th president?

In response to that question, I first point to my record as Governor of New Mexico. The fact is that many Republicans like to talk about smaller government, but my record is unique in this regard. I have a record of actually reducing the size of government over the course of my eight years as Governor, and this was during a time in which other state governments were growing and becoming more expensive all across the country.

It wasn’t always easy. I had to veto over 750 bills in my quest to limit the growth of government, and many of those vetoes were of bills that were Republican-sponsored. It isn’t always easy to go against your own party, but I felt that my primary duty was to the hard-working, taxpaying people of New Mexico. I felt that our state would prosper with a smarter, more efficient government, and I’m proud of what I was able to accomplish during my 8 years in office.

When I ran for Governor of New Mexico in 1994, I promised to put issues first and politics last. Despite all those vetoes, I was re-elected in 1998 by a wider margin than I had won with in 1994. The lesson I drew from that experience was that people of both parties appreciate good stewardship of tax dollars.

That is what I delivered for New Mexico, and that is what I can deliver for the United States of America.

Now, lets move; we have a mountain to climb.

    In Liberty,

    Governor Gary Johnson

nobody said he smokes pot. he says that america’s war on drugs has lead to a lot of folks being in jail, families destroyed, and ease of children buying it. we are not one step closer to stopping the use of pot than we were on day one. and we’ve spent a fortune. our govt is so backwards on this issue that we aren’t allowed to even grow it for hemp to make clothing, ropes, etc. that last nearly forever. it’s a cash crop whether smoked or used otherwise. he compares it to prohibition back when that brought us la cosa nostra. don’t go around accusing people of doing something illegal without having anything to back it up.

      • barbm

ron paul thinks all drugs, not just pot, should be legalized. does that mean he uses them? i think not.

      • Thamera

barbm, I am so with you on this one! I do not advocate the use of drugs, nor do I use them, but our govts. “war on drugs” is a dismal failure and has done more harm than it has done any good. And you have to seriously question the illegality of some drugs like marijuana when alcohol and tobacco are legal, not to mention the side effects that a lot of the psychotropic drugs have as well as how they are grossly abused – yet, they are legal!

      • karolyn

OMG, Thamera! We agree on something!

  • Jude

If Trump would blast the medical profession by exploring its shams and allow freedom of choice for other choices in health and healing, to be covered by insurance as western medicine is, I’d vote for him. He certainly could, as well as he dug up O’s background

    • IreneK

One of the things that he mentioned was getting rid of Obamacare and opening up health insurance choices across state lines. He knows that this will work because AS A BUSINESSMAN he’d like to be able to bid out on health insurance for his many employees. And he can’t currently do it across state lines. He could (for instance) get a better deal with an insurance company in, say, Virginia rather than in NY where he’s based. You think the cost of insurance would drop? Like a rock. And be more affordable for far more people.

  • IreneK

Ben, Ben, Ben. {{sigh}} You’re completely missing the point.

What Trump has been offering is a backbone. The “Birther” issue still hasn’t been satisfactorily answered, and we don’t know what he knows. Worst, we don’t know what Obama knows. All the way around, the American electorate has been kept in the dark. But that’s just *one* issue.

His comments about America’s strength, sovereignty, global standing, debt, energy, etc., has been largely bypassed by the media who wants to focus on the BC. He’s coming out strong, asking questions no one else dares to ask, and has an *in your face* attitude towards the current “leaders” of the country. The current crop of GOPers can learn something from him.

Such as, grow some guts and a backbone. And dare to ask the hard questions. And do it with flamboyance.

    • Bear

      IreneK,
Thanks for sheding a bit more illumination on the subject. I feel, however, that there are a few bloggers on this site that will never get it. Perhaps they are afraid of a “in your face” kind of person who aspires to greatness by calling a spade a spade. They need to watch his TV show and see how he functions. He can be very intimidating but everything he says has reason and is fair. Maybe that scares them too.

      • IreneK

        Bear,

I have never watched his tv show, and I’m listening to him as a successful businessman who knows his stuff. So I have no preconceived notions about him. I like his attitude, what he has to say, and the fact that he asks the hard questions that the MSM, Dems, and RINOS would prefer that no one would ask.

    • Lyudmila

That’s right – in normal life any common person when making hard choices is faced with some questions, including:
      What if…?
Here we are – talking about fundumental right to know “who is our President?” and if he is even legitimate to be one – media is trying to redicule us and marginalize, including “real clouns” like those political pundits on left (liberals and dems), and unfortunately on right (‘conventional” GOP and so called and self-proclaimed “conservative commentators”.
Transparency promised by Obama – where that is here, simple question:
answer and present supporting proof documents to ALL to see as that is no privacy matter – National Security is at stake: who is our President and his whereabouts during his lifetime and associations and where money came from to pay for his education and why, and how come we do not know anything about his youth where he smoked marijuana (he himself confessed), his marxist friends (common knowledge, Rev Write (mix of false christian theology with communal salvation vs. personal as Jesus is teaching us Christian) & marxist redistribution), although very suspicion thing for any young person – nothing about his former girlfriends at all…
So, he is a “saint” or what? Who can now say about Trump that he is not honest – he admits that he was and is a sinner – like all of us while we are in this sinful world.
Obama blames anybody, but himself, and is very strong in taking others property and wealth and giving it to “poor unions” and illegal migrants – anyone who potentially could vote him in…
God forgive us blind – now we have to take chance to see and to find out a TRUTH about Obama and those who helped him in hiding the TRUTH.
      In God we trust.
      God bless America.
Jesus is risen and risen indeed.
      Amen.

  • TOCB

Or in spite of all the evidence supporting Obama’s Hiawii birthplace, Repulbicans will continue to ingore FACTS.

    • Bear

      TOBC,
Exactly what evidence do you speak of? You are inferring that you do not know the difference between a certificate of live birth and a birth certificate. There is a difference which you, obviously, have not taken the time to educate yourself on. You have a computer. GOOGLE IT!

    • combatvet

TOCB, there you go again spouting your lying trash on this site. Have you ever seen a real Hawaiian long form birth certificate from 1961? Well, the Nordyke twins born the day before the muslim impostor supposed birth, displayed theirs and there is absolutely no comparison. What your boyfriend Barry’s communist enablers showed was NOT a birth certificate, it was a poorly forged version of a certificate of birth available to anyone who had a relative call and ask the dept. of health for. Sun Yat Sen, a member of the Chinese royal family has one and he has never been to Hawaii. By the was African is not a race, it’s a continent so his father’s race should have read black or negro. It is nothing but a photoshopped amateur effort by his criminal enablers!

You are one anti-American sick puppy and you can take and sling your crap somewhere else, we’re on to you!

  • http://americansforpetraeus2012.org John Collignon

You write for a right leaning site and “put down” Trump? Anything is better than Obama, even Elvis!Someone should mention Petraeus!!!

    • libertytrain

Well, can’t speak for Mr. Crystal, and I don’t write for anyone BUT – however clever Mr. Trump is — 2 and 2 is not equaling 4 for some reason. I’m with Ben and Mr. Myers on this one.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        libertytrain,
        Thanks for the common sense!!

    • Carlucci

Elvis has left the building….literally and figuratively

  • Kerry Bell

Just a simple intellectual argument… The last presidential campaign left America with two indistinguishable candidates (John McCain and BO – many people voted for BO because he looked better) and other than the overt socialist policies of the current administration I do not believe for a moment that the alternative choice would have been much better for America. As a nation we have not chosen presidential candidates for their leadership capabilities but for slogans and a vague hope for change (wasn’t that someone’s slogan?). However, Americans continue to take the insane course (Freud defines insanity – in part as doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result) of choosing the same types of people (professional politians) whom all embody the same lifelong careers of staying in or upgrading their offices. To bring in someone who has run a business, requiring budgetary and operational performance seems like the only sane choice to me. If not Trump, then who would fill such a roll.

    • IreneK

Bingo. Perfect point. I think *exactly* what we need is a non-politician.

    • TOCB

An effective CEO does not necessarily translate to an effective POTUS. You have to be autocratic to be a CEO. The POTUS is a public servant. He/she has to be the president of those who did not vote for him as well as those who did. That means compromising and moderating. Many liberals are severely ticked off with Obama for compromising too much with Republicans but SOME compromise is required. In the current environment, compromise seems to be a four letter word to Republicans.

      • karolyn

VERY good point! He’s used to getting his way period! That leaves vey little wiggle room. Many are calling him the new US Hitler.

      • Bear

        karolyn,
Surely you are still talking about Obama.

      • JeffH

Gee, I wonder who would be saying and repeating this?…”Many are calling him the new US Hitler”.

      • karolyn

Just talk I’ve heard ’round about.

      • JeffH

Yeah, and if I listened to hearsay and the socialist controlled media I’d think Obama was all about America, the Constitution, freedom and liberty but I’m open minded and do my research so I know better.

      • Bruce D.

Kind of a nasty comment Karolyn from someone who claims to see the bright side of everything(not).

      • karolyn

Bruce – Give me a break! I can’t even post hearsay without being chastised? Are you just trying to find things to say about my posts?

      • Bruce D.

Hearsay is a very nasty Liberal strategy. One that they use often. Don’t try to pretend you do not know what you are doing. You have used it before and try to cover it up with a lot of fluff.

      • karolyn

Bruce – Why does everything have to be a plot?

      • combatvet

TOCB there is no place in this discussion for the crap your slinging. Autocrat my butt, it’s all about you protecting the greatest criminal felon in American history, Barry Soetero, the impostor in chief. Your obviously a democrat apologist who has a man crush on that slime ball defiling our White House. Patriots aren’t interested in your drivel, we’ll deal with you at the appropriate time!

For your information, your boy tele-prompter Barry couldn’t carry Donald’s water. A five year old is more qualified than the ineligible serial prevaricator pushing America into a death spiral along with his enablers.

Violating one’s oath of office is treason, a hanging offense. Doing so while soiling the White House makes hanging seem way to light a punishment.

  • Mark

    Can you say Ronald Reagan?

    • Raggs

      Yeah no kidding….

    • IreneK

I was around when RR was running and voted for him much to my family’s horror. “Who’d vote for a washed-up actor???” was the refrain through the MSM. A hell of a lot of people, it turned out.

      • Dennis Patrick

and boy we sure are still paying for what that washed up actor did to this country!

      • karolyn

It heard on the radio this morning that at this point in RR’s presidency his approval rating was 36%, and Obama’s is at 46%.

      • JeffH

k, try Obama at 41%, which matches his lowest.

      • IreneK

At this time in RR’s presidency, the economy was starting to recover from the mess that Jimmy Carter (Obama I) had done to it. It didn’t happen overnight, and the MSM was brutal to Reagan. When things really started to turn around, they stopped covering the economy. It was the second time my eyes were opened about the ethics/standards of the mainstream media and the hard job that the president had to do(the first was Jimmy Carter, and the last time I voted for a Dem for president). James Carville (Dem pundit from Lousiana) stated that 80% of Democrats don’t have enough sense to know when something is bad for them. When I see people fanatically defending Obama in spite of the downturn of this country under his watch and almost seemingly by design, I figure that he’s probably correct.

Trump has spoken like a real American, and get rid of some of worthless regs that kill jobs and have business move off shore. Government Electric just made 45% more profit and now is of shore, any soros socialist dumbocraps complaining or hear the marxist muslim moron making a peep. Time for a real leader instead of the compromising pukes we keep sending to Washington. We see what a book trained overeducated bastards in the beltway keep giving us. Media and patty cake idoits of both parties, need to go. USA needs to kick the muslims, chinese, and all other dinks of the dictators that keep screwing us. Go Donald Trump!!

    • Lyudmila

      Truth will set us free.
Trump is closer to common people as he poses simple questions to be answered and demands those to be anserwed..and he is offering unusual solutions to our problems crafted for so many years by both parties – dems and reps – now is the time to Tea Party people to stand up and demand – either GOP would listen and take stand alongside or demand GGOP to be changed and clear the way to “common sense” conservatives like Donald Trump and Sarah Palin!
Let’s push these candidates – not hand-picked by RINO GOP establishment candidates like Romney etc. – they are very similar to those democrats whom they simingly are “fighting” with…
Let’s say as it is – fake fight for miningless changes even recent proclaimed $100 Bil in cuts turned to be mere $38,5 Bill and eventually after technical CBO score – ending up only with about $350 Mill (mere 3% of promised in Nov. 2010 cuts!!!) espesially given that we borrow 41 c from each dollar government spends and each day about $7 Bill of spending spree —unbelievable truth, but facts, which none from RINO GOP leadership would not want to admit…
      Stop spending madness!!!
Cut all what we need to get out off debt to countries like China and Saudi Arabia etc.- surely not our friends…
Only candid talkers like Trump and Palin can turn discussion in right direction – and America will be restored from ongoing decay and redistribution madness.
Learn history lessons – even recent with crash of the former Soviet Union, and look at current Greece and Ireland and soon Spain and Italy…thus, whole Europe is going to the same dictatorshi[p as former Soviet Union and later to the disaster and crash.
God help America and bless American people with truth and wisdom to turn around and away from evil socialistic mentality of redistribution of someones wealth…
Awake and turn to the Lord and to founding Fathers and our Constitution – unique and proud citizens of the United States of America!
Trump is for restoring America and Palin is fighting with RINO since McCain used her and abused her credentials, and put her down in 2009.
      Let freedom ring!
Fire Obama and vote out ALL “compromisers” from RINO side and elect more Tea Party members – true Americans who care for our nation and children future.
Vote Trump & Palin for President of the USA>

      • http://?? Joe H.

Trump and Palin??? They are almost diametrically opposed!!!

      • Bear

        Lyudmila,
Your insights are good. The two party system is filled with disguised anti-Americans who keep us in turmoil while pretending to be “what we need.” What I don’t want to see is us allowing the progressive liberals aided in their attempts to discredit Donald Trump like they have with Sara Palin. I feel like Trump is a much better street fighter than Palin will ever be and she can certainly learn from him. I don’t think a ticket with her running in the back would work though. She has already been there and most likely would put in her own bid for the number one slot. At this point, she would have too much work to do to rebuild her credibility starting with why she and McCain did not call Obama out on the elligibility issue during the 08′ debates. They knew back then that he was not properly vetted. If you really care about our Constitution and know what it says about being an American citizen born in this country, you should have pushed that issue from the get go. She and McCain did not. As much as I like Sara Palin, I have serious issues with what she and McCain did not do.

  • Raggs

Well… Trump may not the the best choice out there but I still find him 100% better than what we currently have… My fear is that if he decides to run he may only help obama keep his crown and I believe that is what the democommunist is hoping for… Romney… Forget it!.. romney is nothing but a rino career puppet politician, he reminds me of the kennedy’s…

The bottom line is if we cannot agree on a canidate obama is sure to ( win ) and another four years of his marxist ideology will destroy the USA.

  • bob wire

“Trump may be a lot of things, but stupid is not among them. By provoking the “birthers,” he is likely hoping to gain their trust, and galvanize their Presidential blessing. But there are three flaws in his logic:”

I want to agree with you but this spells “stupid” unless! there are plans inside of plans and things are not as they appear.

He could have been “sent in” by the “Wizard” to change the complexion or dynamics, to kill the birther issue once and for all so grander matters of substance and appeal might be addressed.

Send in the Clowns to keep the peanut gallery entertained and amused while back stage they busy crafting the “really big show” for our delight and entertainment. ~~popcorn, peanuts, cold drinks!

    and then too~

Talking heads can needlessly suck the air out of the room with idle, “no starter” talk.

Like, ~ I might wish to to dwell on Wisconsin recall elections and recounts! Finding that of greater interest and import, where GOP ground is being seriously threatened but you might not find it appealing discussion.

The “News” can easily made by the “News” and what they select to cover. The birther issue is a no starter from the offset.

It’s theater at this point and more about “props” and “illusion” , a testing of the water and the prevailing winds that blow.

    • Bear

Sorry Bob……….Too many holes in your theories. The “Wizard” has to create his puppets. A billionaire realestate mogul is not a puppet. A nobody brought into the arena from a place that no one can clearly define with credentials that no one can verify IS what the “Wizard” wants. Thus, OBAMA. Your suspicions, which are justifiable, in this case are not warranted. Trump is speaking clearly and loudly. We know who he is, where he came from and people do remember him from as far back as grade school. I, in fact, know Donald, Jr. personally. And, if the acorn truly does not fall far from the tree, his father, like the son, has true traditional values. This is NOT hearsay. This comes directly from personal conversations and experience.
People are right about him attracting attention though. You don’t make a bid for the Presidency without first stirring something up to get people’s attention. You want to get people’s attention and give them something to identify you with. What he does with that attention and what he does next is very important. If he chooses to allow the issue to die out and do nothing further, then we have a problem. If, however, he sees it through, as I feel he will, then we see a leader and someone who will carry the fight to the enemy. This can only happen if people get in behind him and cheer him on. If we choose to call him a circus, as the Liberal Progressives are doing to discredit him, then we are killing our own chances. Remember, the fight ain’t over till it’s over.

  • Richard from Camano

    Hello Ben:

Regarding the “Birthers” I say this. ALL recorded documents in any government jurisdiction have a number placed on them stating the time and date of the recording. The Hawaii documents have that number blacked out on the records (Certificate of Live Birth) that I have seen regarding Barak H. Obama’s birth. Why?
I have a copy of Certificate No. 32018, Coast Province General Hospital, Mombasa, British Protectorate of Kenya with dates adjacent to doctor’s signatures of 8-5-1961 and 8-7-1961. This document has a baby’s footprint on it. Three things that don’t change from birth to death are fingerprints, ear design and footprints. Those parts only expand as the baby grows up.
Another document is a Certified Copy of Registrqation of Birth, same hospital, with numbers at the top of: 7s. No 495. Also on the top of the paper is 1961, No. 47,044, District of Mombasa folowed by a blured 2733.
Ben, take this to someone with the capability of sending a couple of investigators to Mombasa to find and interview the folks responsible for these documents. Also have them ask about for folks who had been in that hospital on or within a few days of 8-5-1961 to see if anyone remembers a lily white young lady (18 years old) giving birth to a Mulatto child that was 18 inches long (makes the tummy stick out a lot) and 7 pounds one ounce in weight.
Let’s put an end to the “birther” issue once and for all. If the president won’t produce the documents of his birth then they should be obtained in other ways. HE says he was born in Hawaii. Oh, is that right? Unfortunately, HIM saying so is HEARSAY since no one is sure where they were born but must rely on their parents say-so and recorded documentation. No one fights this hard to keep his history secret like this group that surrounds the president. It is time the truth comes out.

Great points. Answer those questions – Ben Crystol or others on your RINO “team”. What are you hiding or helping to hide?
Very simple – anyone hired MUST present proof documents that certify whatever they claim on their resume.
Mr. Obama has so many gaps in his resume that anyone other would be immidietelly charged with perjury of justice…

What Trump is, is a businessman who is not afraid to speak up for his values. Dear Ben,

If you would stopped being galvanized over the “birther” issue, you might see the truth for a change. Donald Trump was a very successful businessman, making a fortune, it seems, honestly in real estate. I think it is time that the American people a non-lawyer, non-Harvard, non-Ivy League person a chance to straighten out this country. As much as I respect the writings of Hohn Myers, Charles Krauthammer, as well as yourself, the three of you represent only three out of 100 million or so of potential votes for electing a president. Give the Donald a chance. Let the voters decide. Personally I like Mike Huckaby, but Huckaby is only from Arkansas, graduating from tiny Ouachita Baptist University, of which no one has ever heard. He has a more difficult row to hoe than even the Donald. Give them a chance, and treat them fairly.

    Errol Bonner

    • wandamurline

Huckabee cannot beat Obama…he is too nice. We have to have a strong willed person that can back down Obama during face offs. I like Allen West, but he is not interested in being the president, and the only other candidate that can stand up to Obama is Bachman. I think Bachman/West would be a great set of candidates. Romney, Gingrich, Pawlenty, Huckabee, Palin, and the guy from Georgia…they just will not win against Obama. No matter how much we like someone personally, we must look at what baggage they carry behind because the left progressive liberal non-news medias will certainly bring every tainted transgression and paint it as a unlawful, unconstitutional infringement against someone.

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

wanda.. You are right about the media… Donald Trump can stand up to them. Have you ever watched him do an interview? If the time comes where he actually is in a debate with Barry, he will wipe the floor with him!

      • bob wire

I’d enjoy seeing such an event. The Donald has only two things to his advantage, blind ignorance to what he doesn’t actually know and the ability to lay down a steady stream of bull $hit that can be seen as appealing to people that are equally in the dark.

      • Bear

        Bob,
I’d like to see that floor cleaning as well. You might like to know something though. The Donald is not uneducated and he is not lacking in the intellectual field. He is very much up on world events and he does not have to lay out a line of BS. He understands credibility and how it works and you might want to be aware of that fact as what you just bloged might come back to bite you in the ass. We are very much in the light.

      • IreneK

Donald has a lot more than that in his favor. And he knows a lot more than what he’s letting on. Do you know what he knows? Probably not. But with his ongoing success, his education and business savvy, and his ability to speak extemporaneously, he will clean BHO’s clock on the debate dais. Watching him control (instead of being controlled by) the interviews tells me a lot about his character and his impatience with stupidity.

      • bob wire

There is knowing and then these is knowing. ~ In this case any president has a full staff to keep him informed plus a national security briefing every morning. ~ If You think the Donald can somehow manage to get ahead of that and win your trust ~ so be it ~ you had him a winner before they might start.

I’m not attempting to discredit Trump, ~ but I feel you have him greatly overvalued on a political topic debate. ~ Leveraged buy out and sell off, robbing peoples retirement pension, throwing Granny in the street, hostile take overs? bankruptcy, gaming industry my money would be on Trump.

I appreciate leadership with a set of brass balls as much as anyone might, but you need to consider what harm such leadership could create in a very short time. The Donald is not the only man in the world with a set of brass balls. The world is full of such men, many of which are serving time in Crowbar Institutions advancing their criminal education.

      • IreneK

Ditto on the debate from here. No matter what, I’d clear my schedule to see that! Trump would absolutely clean his clock. Sans teleprompter.

      • wandamurline

If Allen West were the VP pick, he would clean bite me Biden’s clock also.

      • Bruce D.

I voted for Romney over McCain in the last election but Romney is also a flip flopper and not a true Conservative. Even though Gingrich is given credit for the Contract with America in the 90s there are many who were in Congress then that said Gingrich betrayed the conservative movement with his compulsion to compromise. Trump does not have any more baggage than either one of those two.

      • wandamurline

I would purchase tickets to see it.

      • bob wire

I agree, but he’s not really as “nice” as you seem to believe. He only comes across as nice to those that don’t really know him. He’s a snake in the grass, of garden variety.

      • Bear

        wandamurline,
You have good points here. Take one more thing into consideration. Which one or ones or those you name have ventured into no man’s land as Trump has in calling Obama on his elligibility, or the Chinese for their confiscation of the world economy, or our military for working all over the world for free? Trump is not a politician. He is a businessman who sees a problem and then, as a businessman, asks the question, “why is this being allowed to exist?” He looks at problems that hamper success and works to eliminate them. That is what a businessman does. A politician, on the other hand, trys to cover them up and hope that no one else sees them and blames him for them. We need a leader who, unlike Huckabee, can be intimidating and can stand in the world arena and win. Nice politicians can not do that. It’s time to take of the “gloves of diplomacy” and start fighting to regain our greatness and “political correctness” has no place in this arena. Trump understands this. Listen to some of his interviews like the one where the interviewer tries to tell him that Obama’s certificate of live birth proves he was born in Hawaii and see how Trump stops him and corrects him. Trump does not allow some news person to run over him.

      • Bruce D.

I agree wandamurline. There is no way Huckabee can beat Obama. Maybe Romney could, I am not sure. Certainly Gingrich would make Obama look foolish in the debates but he needs to want it. He has too much back off and people sense his hesitancy. He does not generate any interest.

  • Neal Olson

The reason Trump is gaining is not due to “birther” stuff – it’s the economy , Stupid! And Trump is a business man. With all your credentials, I would expect better from you than this…

    • karolyn

Trump is already talking about taking over Iraq to get paid back, which would mean more “boots on the ground.” He would have us spending more on the military via new wars.

      • Bear

        karolyn,
Have you ever been in the military? We have boots on the ground all over this planet and we are getting nothing in return. Trump has pointed out that we should be getting something back from South Korea where our troops are helping keep the Communist North out of the South. Our troops do more in one day than anyone can imagine and with nothing coming back to America. To a businessman, that is unacceptable. To a politician, that is business as usual. Like Trump said, to the victor belongs the spoils. We should have the oil or something for our efforts or do you like sending billions to Brazil for oil exploration that will only benefit China as Obama has done? None of the world has respect for us like it use to. We need to get that back along with our freedoms and Trump has a clear shot at making that happen. None of the other potential candidates are sticking their necks out to wake America up to the real problems like Trump is. To me, the rest of them are more like turtles.

      • Dagney

Our role in history is not to “take” resources from other countries. However, I do think once we help a country with a natural disaster or keeping the commies at bay, we should demand and get more respect from them. Continuing to dole out resources, “Treasure”, and money to “buy” their friendship has caused the expected ungrateful behavior you get from children when you spoil them. We need to stop spoiling other countries and just help them to help themselves as any Christian nation would do. And, that is what this country is, “Christian”. Not completely in individual make-up, but in DEED. Much as Obama states he wishes it weren’t so.

      • Bear

        Dagney,
Good assesment. I do feel, however, that the countries that we occupy for the purpose of aiding their freedoms, should be paying us for doing so. The cost of maintaining troops in any foreign country is enormous and you and I are footing the bill. Getting them to start paying us for our presence is only appropriate and would help us reduce our debt. Why should I pay for my neighbors security system?

      • Bruce D.

Once we started pumping money into Iraq to rebuild and stabilize their country we should have demanded it be paid back with their oil fields as collateral. Trump is also wise to demand repayment for military protection from South Korea. Something has to give and the GOP has put forth no one who can make anything happen.

    • Lyudmila

Agree – GOP is scared now as they would need to address REAL issues, thus they try like democrats do, to shift discussion about Trump candidacy to mere “birther” issue…But even that, if Obama is not legitimate on birth and also other things from his past, like question how he got his studentloan – as American resident or foreign one? – that would amount to immidiate impichment, isn’t it a gross violation of the USA Constitution?
That is very serious question to be answered 100% clear – Yes or No.
American people deserve the TRUTH – not guessing and confusion about President and his Resume – anyone is required to have proof when hired to be presented with respective resume..Isn’t that the case here? So, please, do not deminish Trump for his effort to clarify the issue many Americans are very unsettled with…who os Obama?

      • Bear

        Lyudmila,
Bulls eye! The left wants to deminish the people who question Obama’s elligibility by labeling them “Birthers.” That’s what the left always does. They come up with a name that has a negative connotation. Why don’t we start calling them “Denyers?” This nation has a Declaration of Independence, a Constitution and a Bill of Rights. These document confirm our God given rights and outline a set of rules by which we run our country and our Government. Liberal progressives don’t like to play by the rules and they don’t like accountability. That’s why they attack those of us who point out those rules and how they are disregarding them. On this subject, there is no middle ground. Thanks for being and seeing as you do.

      • Bruce D.

Agreed bullseye! Trump doesn’t represent the status quo and both the left and right fear him because of that. They do not even want him in the race stating his positions. They fear him even talking so try to diminish him as they did Sarah Palin. No, he is not like ever body else and is not the ho hum candidates we have become accustom to. He is not even be a strict conservative but most likely would be able to accomplish more than the normal run of the mill wimpy candidate who fears to make a mistake in the pressed. He certainly has more to say than the birth issue for those willing to listen. I fear more maintaining the status quo that we will get from the top GOP candidates.

      • Lyudmila

I grew up in the former Soviet Union and many years ago came to be a proud American and hope to work freely for the better future of myself and my children, and now grandchildren.
What democrats are doing (with willing help of RINO politicians) in America – they leading us, this great nation, to the brink of collapse, and they use all strategy and tactics of past “bolsheviks” headed by Lenin-Stalin: 1) take over mass-media to control communication and “message”; 2) take over banks – to control money and economy; 3) give false promises – similar to “bolsheviks” motto back in 1917 – “land to farmers” (and it was taken away in 5 short years), “mills to workers (unions are representatives of the real workers – sounds familier?) and “peace to people and nations” (do you see how prasident Obama – Nobel Peace Prise winner acting – in addition to two wars he engaged without concent of the Congress in yet another war in Libia wher he spent already unauthorized Billions..for what? helping whom? rebels whom they even dod not know till now? who are most likely turned to be like Taliban fighters or even worse, muslim radicals who gain foothold there to proclaim destruction of Israel and the USA?)
Therefore, I know by my life experience that NOTHING good will come for America if we will not elect REAL people patriots to Congress and a patriot to the White House… Is not that enough that our President blame America while oversees and block our own energy resources (oil, natural gas and coal) development – thus intentionally putting us in disadvange vs. our enemies and rivals?
Just think about it – and common sense would say that among potential candidates there are basicly few telling naked Truth – Sarah Palin and Michel Backman – couragius women – and Donal Trump – leader and businessman and NOT a “good speeking politician” (that’s for sure).
That is probably the reason why conventional mass media is trying to dismiss them and deminish etc.
Americans will see it through…Go Donal Trump!

      • Bear

Lyudmila, I love you already. Thank you for your good words, your praises for freedom and for being in this country.

      • IreneK

As long as his records are sealed, Obama is not legitimate. No matter how many certificates, explanations, MSNBC trips to Hawaii, or other type of so-called “explanations” are done about Obama’s birthplace, nothing is “settled,” as they would have you believe. AS LONG AS THERE IS NO BIRTH CERTIFICATE, THERE IS STILL A QUESTION OF HIS ELIGIBILITY. And he could settle it *just like that.*

The problem that both sides are having with Trump is that he has established credibility with both sides. The H’wood elite has been fawning over him for years. The View sat there and argued with him, but walked off when Bill O’Reilly said that Muslims brought down the WTC.

People know and like Trump, and many more appreciate his words and his attitude even if they don’t care for the man. Either way, Trump has landed center stage, and has turned what could have been a boring campaign season into something with substance.

And, frankly, I don’t think Palin has any place in this campaign. Too many negatives, quitting the governorship, etc. I love what she stands for and at any other time would have made a great running mate, but I don’t think that she would add anything positive to the perception of seriousness to the ticket. She makes a *great* cheerleader for the need to change course, though.

  • karolyn

For a change, I agree with most of what you’ve said, Ben! It’s like watching the circus coming to town with Trump!

karolyn, Do a little more research on Trump before you make such a statement. Don’t get in line behind someone who you only think knows what they are talking about. Crystal is way off base here.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Bear,
        Read my post above!!

      • Bear

        Joe H.
OK, I read it. What’s the point? Trump did change his view on abortion and he did in fact tell us why. That my friend is transparency. How he feels about Obama? He told us why. That again is transparency. No one ever said that this billionaire has made every decision without flaw. Neither have you and I. He was bankrupt at one point but look where he is now. I don’t have my own TV show, do you? He has two divorces, notice I did not say “failed marriages.” Just because we choose to separate from someone who we have been married does not mean failure. Staying with someone who we do not love and are not compatible IS a failure and the committing of a dishonesty with one’s self. For what reason do you choose to judge Donald Trump as you do? He has demonstrated that he is human, that he has made bad decisions and he probably will in the future. Can you say anything different about yourself? We look at someone like our President as someone who should be way above what we call normal standards and we tend to forget that they are human like the rest of us. The big difference that I see is that our leader should listen to the people and should be, at least, open and honest about who he is and where he stands with his core values. Values can and do change and a man who takes the time to explain to you and me why his views have changed is telling you and me that our feelings about who he is, is of value to him. That in itself is a huge value and one that Trump has brought to the table. You should not fail to see that.

      • IreneK

Bear for President! Seriously, you’re correct on every point. Obama clearly lied about transparency, at this point, Trump has been nothing but transparent – at least by comparison.

      • Richard Pawley

One of the problems we have in this country is that many are looking for a god to be president and none have ever run. Some think they are the next best thing, but that is a common mental disease, and not just in politicians. If we are looking for a perfect politician we are looking for what never was and never will be. I’m told that only one perfect person ever lived and we all know what the politicians did to him, they crucified him! Thrump may not be the best candidate but I haven’t heard much that I didn’t like. I’d like to see what Obama is hiding on his birth certificate too, but I’m not going to make a big deal out of it. Neither would Trump but the lemming-like media can talk of nothing else. To bad we can’t vote to get rid of them and get some real journalists.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Bear,
He has been bankrupt THREE times. If he goes bankrupt as a businessman, he affects a few people. If he goes bankrupt as President, he affects the whole nation! I still say you guys are ignoring the fact that he voted for Nobummer when even WE could see before he was not the man for the job!! HE VOTED FOR NOBUMMER!!! So he had to agree with at least some of what nobummer SAID!!!

      • GregS

Bear, the “transparency” of these little flip-flops is NOT the issue. It’s their TIMING: Just in time to run as a “conservative” in the next presidential race!

Furthermore, I would NEVER support someone who SAYS he’s conservative, but yet has contributed significantly to numerous liberal Democrats running for office (even quite recently)!

      • Bruce D.

Bear there is no doubt Donald Trump loves this country. Obama has gone out of his way to prove to the world he does not.

      • Bear

        Brude D.
        Good point…..and made with clarity.

      • IreneK

Trump has said over and over again, “I love this country and I hate what’s happening to it.” Has Obama **even once** said “I love this country”?

      • karolyn

I should have known that one of the only times I agree with Ben Crystal, most posters here would disagree with him! :-)

      • Bruce D.

Yes, you should have and so should Ben Crystal.

      • Bear

        Sorry karolyn,
I’ve read several of your posts and feel you keep up withthngs pretty well and definitely have a good mind about things but I know too much on a personal level about the Trumps to allow Crystal to say what he said. That’s why I made the statement about his personal agendas. I feel he needs to be put on the defensive and let him know that we don’t swallow everything he says just because of who he is. Keep the open mind and check out more on Donald. :)

      • barbm

“but I know too much on a personal level about the Trumps to allow Crystal to say what he said.” if you keep company with the likes of trump and know him well enough to call him donald, you aren’t from the same side of the tracks as i and many others on here are. i guess money will always tell. hard to take you seriously now.

      • barbm

not everybody disagrees with you. i’m with you, so you go girl!!

      • Karolyn

Thanks, Barb. It gets a bit tiresome dodging all the sticks and stones thrown at me just for saying what I believe. And for anyone who would say “Why do you come here?” It’s because it’s a habit; and believe it or not, I have learned a great deal here. One thing I’ve learned is that there are a lot more hateful, rude, nasty people than I imagined.

      • libertytrain

Karolyn, I’m with you on this Trump thing as well.

    • (WIA) Wild Indian in Action

  • John Myers

    Dear Ben,

Another great column and thanks so much for the generous compliment. My wife thinks I am a compulsive about many things, one of them being that I go to PLD Web site at 11:05 PM MST every weeknight to read the latest from you, Chip and Bob.

Keep up the fantastic writing and reporting.

    Sincerely,

    John Myers.

    • Richard

At least Trump is talking about the devastation to our economy caused by China – unlike the rest, and it’s the media blowing up the Birther stuff – not Trump, it’s obvious he wants to talk about more useful things in the interviews.

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Richard… He isn’t only talking about China and the birth certificate, he has much to say about all of things that the politicians don’t or won’t. I for one don’t trust any of the politicians. Maybe trusting a businessman is risky, but no more risky than what we currently are experiencing.
Ben… You are going to have to come up with some hard core facts to prove he would not be a good candidate. Yes, he has contributed to both parties. Yes, we know he has declared bankruptcy in the past. Why would these issues cloud a presidential run? You cannot find the perfect candidate. I am anxious to hear your pick. Hopefully it will be someone with a backbone!

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Robin,
My problem with Trump is that he flip flops too much! He was pro-choice now he’s pro-life, he voted for Nobummer and now he’s scum? come on, we could see that nobummer was worthless but a very astute businessman/billionare couldn’t??? I was against nobummer from the start as he didn’t have enough experience, he preached redistribute the wealth, and he was going to catagorically change the US. Trump couldn’t see this??? Or was he really FOR what nobummer was promising????

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Joe H… I lived a good portion of my life as a pro-choice person. I am now dead set against abortion. It doesn’t make much difference to anybody what my opinion is, but if Trump has also seen the error of his ways, I don’t think that is a bad thing. Besides, he is a businessman, not a politician. Just cause he changes his mind now is not really flip-flopping. Career politicians who change their minds is another thing altogether. Donald Trump had an opinion before. Now what he says is platform material and he knows it. He also knows that America has come out of the coma it’s been in for years and that if he is nominated and elected that he will be held to a higher standard. If you want the same ole crap to keep going on in Washington, then don’t vote for anyone but a politician. Change was needed, but not the kind we are getting! Someone else with a backbone is going to have to step up and so far Trump seems to be the one.

      • DaveR

Exactly! As Ben stated, The Donald has a checkered past. He supported many liberal/Democratic causes and candidates with his money. What does he really believe in today and is this a genuine, permanent change of his fundamental viewpoints? Mostly, it appears that he is seeking to determine for himself whether or not he is a viable candidate for president while increasing publicity for himself which might be for other personal business goals. Only time can confirm that Trump has sincerely changed his views on some matters that are now political issues.

      • vicki

The key thing about politicians is they flip/flop many more times than once. Since politicians lie, any apparent flip/flop is just more evidence of their lies.

Regular people will change their opinions when they are offered and accept good reasons to change.

      • DaveH

What does Trump stand for? I’ve never seen him on interviews in the past (before the presidential posturing) giving anything but milktoast sycophantic answers to political questions. Okay, so he’s challenging Obama’s managerial capabilities. What’s that mean? Nothing is what.
He attacks Obama’s birth, and the masses (hungry for anybody that isn’t Obama) swoon. Ridiculous. Remember people that Big Government and their Crony Capitalists are what got us into this mess in the first place.
We need somebody in that office who promotes Free Markets. Give the power back to the consumers. We were doing just fine before Big Government convinced us that we need their protection in every aspect of our lives.
Here’s what Peter Grier of the Chrisian Science Moniter thinks:
        http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/The-Vote/2011/0414/Donald-Trump-s-three-point-plan-to-solve-the-national-debt

      • Jay

But Robin, isn’t the timing of his flip flops a bit coincidental?

      • DaveH

Donald Trump on Hannity two years ago:
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gj88Q-_wDM

Pay attention. This guy doesn’t want to decrease Government’s size. He just wants to redirect it.
“You shouldn’t help General Motors other than get financing”. Get financing? Why should Government be involved at all?
“It can’t get better until you destroy OPEC”. Oh yeah, and how do you do that with smaller Government?
He wants to make sure the charitable deduction stays. You mean people won’t give to charity without Government’s shove? I would rather have people give to charity because they have big hearts, not because they will get a tax deduction.
The best thing would be to get rid of the byzantine Income Tax system. Would Donald do that? Doubtful. That’s one of the biggest Government tools to aid their Crony Capitalists.

      • DaveH

Now he’s talking Protectionism? That was one of the main contributors to the Great Depression. The Misean economists know that:
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAnGBwjwpHI&feature=related

“We are rebuilding China”? NO! China is rebuilding China by loosening up on their economic controls. We are trying our ignorant best to follow in the old China’s footsteps with Big Stifling Government, and it doesn’t look to me that Trump is planning to change that.

      • DaveH

Please read this treatise on the causes of the Great Depression. Learn. Let’s not repeat history with the likes of Big Government lovers like Donald Trump:
        http://mises.org/rothbard/agd.pdf

We need to get Government out of the Marketplace, not involve it even more like Trump wants.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Robin,
you didn’t address the last part of my post. WE could see from the start that nobummer was not the person for the job, but a billionair, astute, savy businessman couldn’t and VOTED FOR NOBUMMER???? no wonder he went bankrupt three times!!

      • Bruce D.

I agree Robin. Trump needs to be in this race for sure. He may or may not win but his voice needs to be heard. There is no reason to try to silence Donald Trump. If some one doesn’t like him they do not have to vote for him. He is not as conservative as most of us would like and in business he has played both sides. Who of us cannot cannot find some joy in the way Trump handles the press. If Carl Rove doesn’t like Trump that alone is a good reason to vote for him. Lets face it we have a weak group to choose from. There are some good Republicans out there that would make a good president but they are not running this time around. If Republicans cannot do a better job in negotiating a deal when raising the debt level it will be difficult taking them seriously also.

      • IreneK

Karl Rove is a joke and needs to go someplace and shut up. His shenanigans helped to give us Obama.

      • jmortensen

Considering the scam Obama is pulling on us , how could Donald Trump do any worse? At this point in Obamas presidency I think that baby chimp with his face pasted on it could do a better job…

      • Christin

        jmortensen,
Trump (or even my youngest son) would be better than obamer. I’m glad Trump is bringing up the “cons” about obamer’s lack of leadership on the economy (I know BO is collapsing USA on purpose) and his lack of proof of citizenship, BUT frankly, I think Trump is a “foil character in this presidential puppet show”, a set up by TPTB (NWO folks) and probably their pick for the Republican party. I can hear the Left Loonies shouting now, “… NO RICH man for our president… tax the rich, he is our enemy.”

There are better choices from the “Conservative” side such as Paul Ryan, Michelle Bachman, … and others that I feel are TRUE STATESMEN/WOMEN who have the Constitution, Rule of Law, small government, balanced budget, and American Free Markets as their best interest for being the Leader of the (use to be) Free World.

      • JUKEBOX

People do not realize that men in Trump’s financial position donate money to both sides, because you never know when you might need their support. This scenario is no different from the negotiating that goes on in Congress. You could pick a name at random from the phone book of any major city, and probably do no worse than Obama.

      • jim

The birth fraud that ole barry has pulled on us, is PIVOTAL and the rest of the GOP needs to Wake up!!! Thank goodness Trump has the guts to press it Hard! Some of these other GOP nitwits better look at the CONSTITUTION and read it again, instead of like the LIB DEM SOCIALIST SCUM, ignore it!! Ole barry is NOT fit for office of ANY kind, not the least of which, is according to the CONSTITUTION!! IMPEACH NOW!!! WAKE UP GOP!!!

I believe you swear an oath to tell the truth when you fill out your census form, and Obama violated this when he classified himself as “BLACK”, when he should have chosen the truthful option of “MIXED RACE” for himself and his children.

jim, How do you wake up the Gone Out Pissing (GOP) spending drunks?

      • Christin

        WIA,

Take away their “credit cards” ( that would be our TAX money paid to teh evil IRS) so they can NOT buy booze and stay in a drunken stupor.

To ALL in Congress: Immediate Reduction in pay, only show up to WA, DC for six months out of the year, then go home and work at your occupation and be a TAX PAYING, healthcare-paying, social security paying, medicaid-paying, citizen following the LAWS they pass like the rest of us.

By the way many in the GOP may be out to lunch, but what is the excuse for the socialist wackjobs in the DNC (Dumb Nucklehead Communists)…hhmmm???

      • Lyudmila

Agree – he is very smart and NOT self-serving as democrats want us to believe…unlike current president who is surely self-centered and has no respect for America as the Sovereign nation under God!
Go Trump – and do more than “bither” thing – you can help American people to gain self-respect and re-establish our nation standing on the world scale..
        God bless America.
        Vote for Donald Trump!

      • http://Verizon Bud G.

I can tell you if the people in this country do no wake up and if they re-elect this Socialist, then they deserve what they get. You think your taxes are high now; it will only the beginning and your freedoms will disappear and you will be living under Socialism, not Capitalism.

Mr. Crystal doesn’t seem to realize that 45 per cent of the population are now saying there aren’t certain the President was born in the U.S. wheras 33 per cent think he was. The fact is Trump is probably the only person with the money to beat Obama because the unions and George Soros, the Socialist will be pouring money into the Obama campaign funds.

In spite of the overwhelming amount of information that he wasn’t born in the U.S.. His grandmother and his own wife said he was born in Kenya; there is no record, I repeat no record of his birth in Hawaii and the Certificate of Live Birth is a fake because it lists the father as African when Negro was the term used internationally at that time, Secondly, you don’t have to be born in the U.S. to get a certificate of live birth. I believe the President cannot produce a birth certificate and if all of a sudden one appears, it needs to be checked for authenticity or will they do the same as before and not properly vett him. There are questions about his passport, his social security number and a number of other things. A well known Libertarian who went to school with Obama said he was follower of Marxism. I believe Donald Trump will try to obtain information about his days in Indonesia and his mothers citizenship and look into the records available from Kenya. If it is found that the mother denounced her U.S. Citizenship while she was in Indonesia, what was her status when she returned to Hawaii? This may be what he is trying to hide.

The truth is, we know nothing about our current President and he has made sure you don’t find out anything because he has spent some 2 million dollars to prevent anything about his past from being revealed. The question should be why is he doing this unless he has something to hide.

      • Bear

        Robin from Arcadia, IN,
Good words, my friend. At least we know who Trump is and where he’s from. If Ben Crystal wants someone to go tell Trump his latest 15 minutes are up, maybe HE should do it himself. Anyone with any smarts at all knows that billionairs donate to specific politicians and those are the ones who they feel will work with them in their endevors. To hell with their political affiliation. Sure Trump had a financial crash, but look where he is now. Ben, show me another presidential hopeful who has anywhere near this kind of record. Sounds to me like Crystal has his own agenda and trying to knock the stilts out from under a successful man is part of it. Trump is raising questions and he is telling us where he stands and he is even telling us why. Who else is doing that? All the rest of them are walking on eggs trying not to get anyone upset. I for one am sick and tired of the politician’s balancing acts. I, for one, am ready for a man who will say, “YOU’RE FIRED!”

      • Lyudmila

Yes, Bear – you right on target.
I agree with your good analysis and if Trump will run – sure we will hear more from Donald Trump himself – not such pundits like Ben Crystal (collaborator who pushes such RINO politicians whom we are betrayed time and time again under the banner of “compromise” with socialistic democratic party – where they are responsible “blue-dogs”…) and even so “wise” Charles Krauthammer…pushing for sure failure with such as Romney or Huckabee…
Best ticket might be Trump & Palin!
Let’s help them win our country back! Economy and moral grounds – that should be restored first. Honesty in views are very appreciated – and Trump is going to be very candid – and he already said it publicly that he will not hide anything unlike current occupire of the White House.

      • Lee

“Best ticket might be Trump & Palin!” How bout Trump and West?

      • Dennis Patrick

        Trump/Palin:
        “You’re Fired”/”I Quit”

      • Richard Pawley

Trump with either Palin or West would certainly be interesting. The country could be in such a mess in 18 months that no matter who runs they are not going to be able to quick fix what the 110th Congress (2006-2010) and now the 111th has spent. We can’t turn back the inflation that the squandering of money is going to cause. The dam has already been breeched and we live down stream. Only those who want the flood of inflation are denying it is coming. The rest are preparing or in shock. Still the right people in office could help the American public adjust to the lower standard of living for all that all this spending is going to cost. Of course the president always gets blamed for everything but it is congress who passes the budgets and controls the money and often gets off scot free. Remember just 18 months till the election and hopefully we can retire a few more dozen of them.

      • Bud Tugly

Palin has become a media diva for the big bucks. She talks the talk, but leave her off the ticket. There are many better.

      • vicki

        Bud Tugly says:
“Palin has become a media diva for the big bucks. She talks the talk, but leave her off the ticket. There are many better.”

If there are many better I am sure you will have no trouble providing names and why you think they are better. Start with just 3 examples.

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Thanks Bear. I know on this blog that you are either for someone, or against them. I would love to be able to go to the polls in our next election and feel good about who I am voting for, instead of voting for the lesser of two evils!

      • Bear

        Thanks back to you Robin,
Yes, perhaps Donald Trump and I are much alike. I have less patience with a liar than I do a thief and the middle ground of compromise is nothing more than wasteland. Wars should be fought to win and the news media should stay at home. Political correctness is the foundation of decay and transparency means you can see what I am doing and understand why I am doing it. I feel that Donald Trump will bring these values to fruition. The best of us will never be perfect in the eyes of all but the endeavors of one who tries to bring greatness will be seen in the eyes of all. I do believe Trump can do this.

      • vicki

        Robin from Arcadia, IN says:
“I would love to be able to go to the polls in our next election and feel good about who I am voting for, instead of voting for the lesser of two evils!”

Vote Libertarian (www.lp.org) When enough of us stop believing in the false claim that failing to vote for (lesser)evil will just let evil win, then evil will loose.

For many many years we voted for the lessor of 2 evils. What do we have to show for it? Just more evil. Vote Libertarian. Its the only way to be sure.

      • DaveH

I’m afraid, Vicky, that most of the citizens have been so thoroughly brainwashed by the public schools that they have no idea what Freedom is anymore. They are convinced that it isn’t Big Government that is the problem, rather it is which major party is running the show. It’s going to be a very uphill battle.

      • peter robison

        Bear,
If Trump is the best that the GOP have to offer, and he may be, then President Obama’s re election will be a cake walk

      • Bear

        Peter,
Take some time to look into this man who you perceive as less than adequate for the job. A lot of people said the same thing about Ronald Reagan. I haven’t seen one single potential candidate on either side of the fence come out as candidly as Trump has. You don’t fight the tigers from behind the fence, pal.

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

peter…. Overconfidence is not always the best way to view things.

      • Richard Pawley

Some 200,000 a year move out of the county each year now. If Obama is re-elected that number will skyrocket. Neither the dollar nor the economy will survive another six years of spending like the last four and a half (since the Democrats took over congress in 2006 and began the spending spree that even George Bush gets blamed for). IT IS CONGRESS WHO CONTROLS THE BUDGET. If Obama is replaced but Congress remains the same things will just freeze as they are next year, with gas over $4 a gallon for good and maybe $5 on it’s way to the $10 or $12 that is desired by George Soros and the liberals who want to refashion the USA into a socialist republic in what the first President Bush called the New World Order. I don’t know who would be the best president but I know you can’t spend money you don’t have if you don’t produce anything and have to import everything from foreigners. No wonder they don’t want to loan us the money any more and why they want a new world currency that is stable or is at least controlled by people who are stable. To bad our congress didn’t have the courage to be like Iceland who just repudiated the debt the banks ran up and who, unlike us, refused to borrow billions to pay off foreigners. So far Iceland is doing fine with a bad international credit rating and no big debt to foreigners, and employment has even gone up a bit. We, one the other hand, Democrats and Republicans alike, rushed to give hundreds of billions to all who lost money in the speculative schemes of those in high finance back in 2008, so they have their money intact, but the nation is poorer and inflation, although it takes a long time to work it’s way through the system, will eventually affect us all. I recently heard someone say that if Obama gets re-elected then the nation will deserve what happens but I think the inflation that will be caused by all the spending has already been set in motion. I would believe the administration cared about this if they actually were willing to reduce all this waste, or that EPA cares about how much gas and oil we use if we could buy cars like the five passenger, 107 mph, VW Polo that gets a real world 71 mpg of diesel fuel but they only want electric cars run my windmills. Almost makes me glad I don’t have any children who have to grow up in what this country is becoming. Vote wisely in 18 months or you will not like the results no matter who gets blamed for it. May God help us because the government certainly isn’t going to be able to do so!

      • JUKEBOX

Right, and a man who has the guts to say it without fear of being called a racist, bigot, insensitive, or any of those other descriptions of a man who is not a petuous child.

that was then, this is now. we have computers and a lot of ways to get info they didn’t have back then. first it’s palin, now it’s trump. if a person is good at being loud, boisterous, and rude, seems y’all like them. you don’t even look at the big picture. gary johnson was only a politician for 8 years from 1995 to 2003. that’s not being entrenched in politics and making it a career. he started the our america initiative in 2009. from wikipedia, “The Our America Initiative is a 501c4 political advocacy committee formed by Gary E. Johnson, a Republican politician who served as the 29th Governor of the U.S. state of New Mexico from 1995 to 2003 [1]. The 501(c)(4) was created in December 2009, when Johnson hired stategist Ronald T. Nielson of NSON Opinion Strategy to help organize the 501c4 committee [2]. The two have worked together since 1993, when Nielson ran Johnson’s successful gubernatorial campaign.

Gary Johnson currently serves as the Honorary Chairman for the Our America Initiative. The focus of the organization is to speak out on issues regarding topics such as government efficiency, lowering taxes, winning the war on drug abuse, protecting civil liberties, revitalizing the economy and promoting entrepreneurship and privatization.

The mission statement of the Our America Initiative: OUR America Initiative seeks to broaden the parameters of the public policy debate of current topics in the national arena. We look to enlighten the population about civil liberties, free enterprise, limited government, and traditional American values. It is our aim to increase the amount of discussion and involvement regarding all-important issues.”

        Barbm,
Your soap box seems a little high. True enough, that was then and this is now. So what? People still mock what they don’t know or understand. So, you support Gary Johnson and that is fine with me. But, what I don’t need is someone else to tell me what we need. What I already know that we need is someone to step up to the plate and start making people accountable and responsible for what they say and do. At this point Gary Johnson has not done that, Donald Trump has. Tell your boy, Gary to start putting Obama and his people on the firing line and I’ll take a look at him. Till then, don’t even try to compare Trump to Palin or anyone else out there. That dog doesn’t hunt!

if having somebody question o’s birth place is the only issue you’re concerned about, by all means jump on trump’s band wagon. i’m more concerned about the economy, illegal immigration, and govt growth (stopping it, that is). i don’t want to go to the polls and find that my only serious choices are obama or mccain like we had last time. i voted for chuck baldwin in the general because i vote my conscience and because i knew mccain didn’t have a snowball’s chance in hades of winning. there has to be somebody out there that we can all agree on. so far, i haven’t seen him/her.

Operating the Government more efficiently isn’t going to do the trick. We need to close down whole useless Federal Agencies, like the Department of Education, the Department of Energy, the FCC, and many more. We need to end the Failed War on Drugs. We need to get Government out of our Marketplaces, and out of the business of protecting us from ourselves, and return them to their only legitimate functions — protecting us from force and fraud. Now they are the Forcers and the Frauds.
And Donald Trump isn’t going to do that.

        barbm,
I’m totally in your corner on the McCain thing and that is spite of the fact that I am a Vietmnam vet. McCain and Palin had the cahnce to torpedo Obama in the debates and didn’t even line up the shot much less take it. They knew he wasn’t properly vetted and chose to ignore it.

Americans have a right to see Obama’s long form birth certificate even if he was born in Hawaii. So far he has posted a short form of one claiming residency in Hawaii but not born there. I have a problem with anyone who finds fault in anyone demanding proof of eligibility. It is a disservice to the country and the Constitution.

Presidents should turn over these records – remember Clinton’s visit to Moscow in the 1960s? Or W Bush’s “military” records while a member of the national guard? Did we ever see documentation that Dick Cheney was a human being?

With the left it is always about someone else. One day you will get tired of making excuses for Obama.
