Obama Addresses Gun Control In Op-Ed

March 16, 2011 by

Obama addresses gun control in op-edPresident Barack Obama has called on lawmakers to propose tighter gun control laws that would keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals.

In a March 13 op-ed for the Arizona Daily Star, the President said that while most gun owners are responsible individuals, there should be more comprehensive background checks to ensure that criminals and unstable Americans are not purchasing deadly weapons. He referenced the Jan. 8 shooting in Tucson, Ariz., in which six people were killed and 13 were wounded, as well as the Columbine and Virginia Tech massacres.

Obama said that weak background checks lead to "awful consequences," and it is the responsibility of lawmakers and concerned citizens to step forward and advocate for stricter policies. To reaffirm his support for the 2nd Amendment, the President said that his administration has expanded the rights of gun owners, allowing them to carry their firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges.

A March 14 editorial in New York magazine criticized Obama for offering his opinion far too late in the gun control debate.

"He admits that, while 'there's more we can do to prevent gun violence,' he's merely hoping to start 'a new discussion on how we can keep America safe for all our people,'" the editorial states. "Except, we were having this discussion in January, and Obama sat it out, despite apparently not having anything particularly controversial to say."

Folks, I live in California and as liberal and anti-gun this state is we have another strong representative, the California Rifle and Pistol Association who partnered with the NRA to fight and beat AB962, the horrendous ammo registration bill that would have banned all purchases not made “face to face” from online and phone sales companies like Cabelas, Able Ammo, etc. The law was deemed unconstitutional and was a great victory and a big blow to the heart of the anti-gun advocates in California.

Now they’re working in partnership with other gun right groups to organize a Self-Defense Rights “Truth Rally” to Be Held in Los Angeles on March 16, 2011. They have asked that participants come wearing shirts with collars and “Not” bring any guns, open carry or concealed to the protest.

CCRKBA (Citizens Committee For the Right to Keep and Bear Arms), SAF (Second Amendment Foundation), and the Calguns Foundation are holding a press event and “truth rally” to counter Mayor Bloomberg and MAIG’s (i.e., “Mayors Against ‘Illegal’ Guns”) most recent disinformation campaign, rolling his MAIG billboard truck across the nation to promote the bald-faced propaganda that firearms are a net “social cost,” and not the real truth that firearms are a net “social benefit.”

Gun owners will thus be unveiling their own “truth truck” billboard to counter Bloomberg’s campaign of fake propaganda.

MAIG doesn’t want the public to know truth. That truth is this – for every criminal who kills with a firearm in a crime, there are 64 law-abiding citizens who use a gun in self defense. And in light of Mayor Bloomberg’s apparent political lies and outright “propaganda campaign,” CCRKBA and its local partners have teamed up to ensure that the public is told the truth, once and for all.

The truth is that firearms in the hands of law abiding citizens are a human right, a civil right, a “net benefit to society,” and a total and complete life saver to those who are unfortunate enough to have use them. Reams of statistics show that the vast majority of defensive firearm use occurs without the intended victim even having to fire one single shot.

This makes the MAIG disinformation campaign even more repugnant and nonsensical, since it flies in the face of documented reality.

For those of you that are un-aware of Bloombergs threat to your freedom and God given right to defend yourself, he’s the one that put together the “Blueprint For Federal Action on Illegal Guns” and delivered it to Obama.

      JeffH,
I’d be very suprised if GOA isn’t in attendance!! They are another good gun rights supporter!!

      • JeffH

I’m sure they will be participating also. GOA said they will follow the tour and set the record straight at every stop along the way.

      • http://?? Joe H.

I hope they both go along and kick a$$!!!!

As a reminder, the Second Amendment’s “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” is a restriction on the federal government.

In United States v. Cruikshank, 92 U.S. 542, 553 (1875), a mob of whites had disarmed two blacks (in Louisiana) and the issue was whether that action had violated the right of blacks to bear arms, and thus violated the Second Amendment. Mr. Chief Justice Waite said: “This is not a right granted by the Constitution. Neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence. The second amendment declares that it shall not be infringed, but this, as has been seen, means no more than that it shall not be infringed by Congress. This is one of the amendments that has no other effect than to restrict the powers of the national government.”

Since then, in McDonald v. Chicago (2010), the High Court held that the right to keep and bear arms is a part of our “liberty” (in the 14th Amendment) as to the possession of a handgun.
The National Rifleman Association has attended every U.S. congressional committee that formulated a federal gun control law, and has contributed to its content. Our problem here is in defining just what ‘shall not be infringed’ means.

  • http://jfd@aol.com WE THE PEOPLE

Hey Barry all those people in jail never had a background check.Remember guns don;t kill people do.OH instead of your concern about guns;THINK about the ECONOMY !!!

  • independant thinker

As for enforcing the laws on the books, I strongly suggest Mr Obama to enforce those that actually take violent criminals off the streets. To start, I urge you Mr Obama to contact every U.S. Attorney and ask them to bring at least ten cases per month against drug dealers, gang members and other violent felons caught illegally possessing firearms. By prosecuting these criminals in federal court – rather than state court – strong sentencing guidelines would apply and charges would not be plea-bargained or dismissed, nor would criminals be released after serving only a fraction of their sentences. This simple directive would result in roughly 12,000 violent criminals being taken off the streets every year. Surely you Mr Obama agree that this would be a good first step.

    • Armor Piercing

. What has occurred independant thinker over the last fifteen to eighteen years, the number of jail cells for prisoners has been declining per capita, especially if you factor all the illegals into the population. In very measured synchronization, large numbers of public servants (Clinton’s “Hundred Thousand Policeman”) have successfully removed the money from the budgets with demands for increased salaries, better equipment and armaments, and retirements rivaling Wall Street bankers. This is an army of gun carrying public servants at the command of sometimes questionable political leaders who do not detain criminals because they have no detention facilities. The antiamerican Democrats have successfully occupied entire Circuits of jurisprudence having as a primary focus the need to release even the most horrific criminals back onto the streets for rehabilitation (Sotomayor and Kagan are products of this policy mindset). Judges release criminals on the grounds that they have no detention facilities to house them. The antiamerican Democrats took control of the educational institutions a generation ago and are producing Kagans and Sotomayors religiously. We are now reaching a crescendo period where our federal institutions are little more than training grounds for the lifetime criminal. Gangs predominate all federal prisons.
. All in all, we will not even be able to imprison even the most horriffic offenders in the next decade. Judges will actually release individuals who would have in our childhoods been previously put to death. The antiamerican wagon rolls forward. I think the only saving grace that could befall America is that the Muslim Horde, 1.6 billion strong today, will likely unleash the final Jihad and attempt to destroy as many Christians, Jews and non-Muslims as is conceivably possible. This will end the American endeavor as we know it today. When the smoke clears, those with guns will likely be the only ones left standing.

    • sylviam

LIFE in PRISON== PAYING FOR THEIR EVERY WISH, FEEDING THEM , AND MEDICAL CARE,I DON’T THINK SO, impose the DEATH PENSLTY, and NO PLEA BARGINING, They gave up that right WHEN CONVICTED==== NO COST TO TAX PAYERS. Now that sounds more like what they should do with KILLERS AND ROUGES
      GOD BLEAA AMERICA

      • http://?? Joe H.

        sylviam,
Make jail once again fit the crime! no weight rooms, no tv, nobasketball courts. Make the ba$tards work and hard!! Bring back hard labor! Make little rocks out of the little ones if they want exercise!! Build secondary roads! cut weeds along the roads! four guards with 12 guage on every crew and orders to shoot to kill if they attempt to escape!! If you make jail a hard time instead of a bad vacation, there will be fewer repeats!! when they had the chain gang in the south, the cons did everything they could to go straight after release!! nobody but a crazy wants to go back to that!!!

      • http://?? Joe H.

That should say little rocks out of the big ones, sorry!! See Claire, we all do it!!

  • 45caliber

Instead of trying to seperate the guns from the criminals by making it harder for an honest person to get one, how about seperating the criminals from the guns?

That wouldn’t be that hard to do. Simply lock them up – and keep them locked up. Loughner was a good example of this. He had given the authorities several opportunities to lock him up – which they didn’t do.

This way we can punish the criminal rather than the honest citizen. (What an odd idea, right?)

    • usmadgirl

      45caliber,

What a novel idea! You KNOW that’s a way too “common sense” idea for the progressive libtards to implement!

That’s just like their wanting all of US to carry ID cards instead of making IMMIGRANTS

      • usmadgirl

        Continued. Sorry I hit “enter”.

That’s just like this intrusive administration wanting all of US to carry ID cards instead of making IMMIGRANTS carry cards for work visas. How freaking stupid do they think we are? I’M here LEGALLY – born here, parents, grandparents & great grandparents born here. So why do I have to prove anything? Don’t inconvenience me or try to keep up with me when I’M NOT the PROBLEM! Don’t give license to illegals. Don’t give guns to criminals or crazy wackos. Problem solved!

      • Raggs

I see a flaw in that… This by no means is about immigration control, it is however the forefront of citizen control.

Watch obama in the upcoming months and his anti-gun regs.

  • s c

For those who don’t live in AZ [or aren't familiar with out-of-state rags], the Arizona Daily Star is a wannabe NY Times (grocery store toity paper, Huff-and-Puff Post, etc.). When they’re bored or have little to do, they’re probably in bed with the ACLU.
It is NO coincidence that Obummer would dare to ‘bless’ those yahoos at the DS via an op-ed on a topic that’s beyond his expertise. If the media groupies at the Arizona DS want to test Obummer’s “intelligence,” they should have asked him to quote saul alinsky or lenin.

    • JUKEBOX

Start calling them “THE ARIZONA RED STAR” to their face.

  • Valley County

When the times comes, which it will if the Democrats are left to lead, they can have my “registered” firearms, but will never find the rest and all ammo I buy is not linked to my name. Folks wake up or you will be like the Mexican across the border, moving north looking for a better place to live.

    • 45caliber

Actually, when that time comes (when, not if), I think you will see a lot of people going SOUTH to Mexico to find a better place to live.

      • JC

Yep! It’s much warmer than going north. Will be nearly vacant and further from all the third world crime and poverty that will be the new USSA. And this time…we build a wall! LOL

  • Moonsi

Well, we are living in a crisis time. I personally don’t want to carry any gun. I went through a war, and I don’t like to have gun. BUT, now we are living in a very twisted world, and we need every defense we can to protect us from danger. For example, my home was broken into, and by the grace of God, the thief left hurriedly when he discovered that we were home.

    • 45caliber

You were lucky. When a burglar breaks into a house KNOWING the people are home, that is called a “hot” burglary. In the US about 10% of all burglaries are “hot”. In England where guns are banned about 90% are “hot”.

The reason? The burglars know they are safe so they want the homeowner to be home so they can make him tell where he’s hidden his money.

    • Pappadave

But what if he HADN’T left in a hurry? What if he’d come at you with a knife or a baseball bat or even a gun? The fact that you don’t have one means that you and yours are DEAD…PERIOD, end of story. Frankly, I’d much rather see the burglar dead than my family members…but maybe that’s just me.

      • usmadgirl

        Pappadave,

Nope! It’s not just you! I agree completely! BUT the idiot progressives think, “Oh, that poor criminal (or illegal immigrant). Those mean old homeowners (or mean old Border Patrol people) hurt the poor criminal (or illegal). They should be put away forever. They have no “right” to defend their homes or their country! Take away their mean guns & we won’t have that problem. Only the criminals will have weapons to defend themselves against those mean homeowners & Americans & then we’ll have SOCIAL JUSTICE because the thugs can take whatever they want or need!”

I’m the most sensitive, big-hearted person you could ever meet, but if you come into my house to hurt my family or my pets or take what little bit of stuff I’ve worked 24/7 for 40 years to have, I’m going to blow your butt into the afterlife!

      • JUKEBOX

My grand daddy used to say, “I had rather be a live SOB than a dead hero”. The police today, no matter how dedicated, are helpless to stop most of the crime, they only can write their report and investigate it, after the fact.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        JukeBox,
I once heard a guy on the radio say that the police only prevent ! in 100 crimes. I don’t know how accurate he was, but I do have a question for all the progs here, ARE YOU NUMBER 1 OR ARE YOU NUMBERS 2 THROUGH 100???????? Would you get into a card game for money with those odds against you???

  • John Slice

Background checks work so well now that I know a Police Officer with a concealed weapon license who was DENIED after the call in. I later found out that (even though they had his SS#) someone had the same name and birthday somewhere else in the country and they are a convicted felon. He had to go through this huge appeal process to be able to purchase a gun and he’s been a Cop for 12 years.

Replace all politicians and make the new ones do it for no pay. It’s the only way to get true patriots in there.

  • Raggs

    Two words..

    **** Donald Trump 2012 ****

    • 45caliber

      Oh, God ………

Well, I guess that he’d be better than what we have at that. Almost anyone would be.

      • Pappadave

You could take any homeless man off the street, clean him up a bit and put him in the White House and you’d be almost infinitely better off.

      • Raggs

        .45…
The GOP has no one that can rivial the current usurper in chief.

      • JUKEBOX

Right on Raggs, no GOP person is as corrupt as Obama, not even Jack Abramoff.

    • usmadgirl

      Raggs,

We don’t want to “settle” for something just barely better than what we have. Donald Trump is NOT a conservative. He’d be just another rich RINO. If I’m not mistaken, he gave Rahm Emanuel lots of money for his campaign. Does that tell you anything?

He might be a great “economic adviser” but not a president. Besides, I couldn’t stand to see his hair sprayed “comb-over”, look at his squinty little eyes & watch him speak with his puckered little mouth for 4 to 8 years.

We need to choose someone who can BEAT O’Dumbo that hasn’t been in the limelight for 30 years. I don’t want Newt or Giuliani. I wrote a letter to Newt when he made some comments that showed he was blind to the “Saul Alinski” & “Cloward & Piven” tactics that O’Dumbo & his thugs were using & told him he’d better wake up. I let him have it. From then on, he started mentioning some of the exact things I said.

We need someone fresh & brilliant in all aspects for the job. We had a “Reagan-like” candidate in 2008 & the media ignored him…Duncan Hunter. He was the perfect candidate! Attractive, smart, a great speaker (without a teleprompter) had a great military background, was fiscally & socially conservative & didn’t want to take away our 1st & 2nd amendment rights like this piece of crap we have now! I wish we could get him to run again, but now, we’ll probably have to wait for his son to run in the future!

      • Raggs

usmadgirl… You in a round about way made my point.
We have to face the facts that obama has all of the support from the unions, blacks and mexicans ( no racial intentions ). The GOP had better get off of their asses and find some ground to stand on.

      • usmadgirl

        Raggs,

Sorry for my “round about way”. I write like I “tawk” (that’s Southern for talk) except when I talk, by the time I cover all the details, I forget my point! At least when I write, I can fix it! LOL

What you said is so true & exactly what scares the crap out of me. This lying bunch of greedy, Communist thugs have ALMOST destroyed this country in just over 2 years. I don’t know about the rest of the people here, but I just wouldn’t do well in a Haitian-like country & that is what I see us turning into. It won’t even take 4 more years. If things proceed like they are now, we might look like Haiti in another 6 months…no gas, no food, no electricity, no clean water. I won’t even cook with unfiltered water. At least we live about a half mile from Chickamauga Lake (which is part of the Tennessee River) so maybe I can store water filters to filter the fish poop out of the lake water!

I’ve been waiting for O’Dumbo to grant amnesty to all the illegals, but he’ll probably wait until right before the 2012 elections so we can’t do anything about it.

It’s so difficult for me to comprehend that at least HALF this country is stupid enough to vote for this phony again after all the unconstitutional, shady, illegal, unethical things he’s done or tried to do. Anybody with eyes, ears & a brain cell can see that this is ALL intentional to bring about global social justice & to bring us into their NWO, whatever that entails & to have their global “utopia” with unicorns & fairies. I don’t even think THEY know what that’s gonna bring about. They just want to transform us into something different regardless. I say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”! But NOW it’s broken so severely that I don’t know if we CAN fix it!

Everybody keeps pulling out the same old people! People need to research the candidates & LISTEN to them & read between the lines BEFORE they just vote because they think they’re nice, cool, funny or cute. People didn’t LISTEN to what O’Dumbo was REALLY saying & look where THAT has taken us!

      • usmadgirl

        What the heck happened here???

      • Raggs

There are two types of people…
1 that lives by their means, and one that live off of some other means.

The democratic party has and will always live off of your means and to the promise of “we know much more than you”..
        So… need I say more?

    • Jay

I listened to Michael Savage interview Donald Trump, according to Michael, he’s the one. I would vote for Trump, if only to hear him say: Obama, you’re fired!!!

  • AZ101

As it is with many topics, our national level politicians rely of the gross and rampant ignorance of the general population, present a bold faced lie and then be defend it with semantics and half truths.

When are people going to wake up and realize that the very environment of freedom which they live in is being eroded by the progressive policies of both political parties? The only difference is the liberal take over of the democratic party political allows them to go about their agenda far faster than the influence of far right religious sect of the republican party. We need a new party that cares about the principles this country was founded on, and the best bet for that is from the Tea Party activities. Get informed, Get involved.

  • Lincoln was the first obama

No this isn’t about lincoln, although if you read “Lincoln Umasked” you’ll find that almost everything we’ve been taught in school and in the media was revisionist.

But here’s the point: Last year, I was a part of the “spike” in gun and ammo ownership. I grew-up in a rural area with a lot of guns…you know, “redneck.” Larry the Cable Guy was Larry the Truck Driver.

Last year when I purchased the first gun I had ever actually “owned,” the registered firearms dealer had to call the FBI and/or the BATF to check my status.

So – what gauntlet will we have to run under the new bill?

Bureaucracy. The ULTIMATE in … hahaha…efficiency and accuracy. (Can’t stop laughing!)

As you all know SO well, it’s about power. Disarm your enemies, so that when the “jihad” hits your neighborhood you have no recourse but to die.

And I use the term “jihad” loosely, because Islam is a major pawn in this game, maybe even “bishop.” obama is obviously a muslim. When he avoids the National Day of Prayer and Christmas and then celebrates Ramadan…that’s pretty clear evidence.

However, the jihad could come through Mexico or even our own fed. govt.

Hitler knew to disarm the Jews. The Democrats tried to implement the first gun control laws so Blacks couldn’t defend themselves.

Look at history: it just repeats the same pattern over and over.

    Power.

    So who

  • s c

Yeehaw! The World Teacher speaks again. This time it’s on a topic where he can show us the breadth and width of his world-class ignorance on so many topics (gun control). Between the Arizona Daily Star and The Anointed One, what we have is an example of galloping mental masturbation.
Let me guess. The Daily Star is Arizona’s version of the Workers’ Daily or the old Pravda. Right? As for Obummer, his chronic motormouth condition just won’t stop. Don’t they have a pill for that?

    • JUKEBOX

Our local liberal rag also has “STAR” in its name, and that’s why we call it “THE RED STAR”.

  • jim

our president from Kenya is with out a doubt the worst threat this nation has ever faced. He is much more dangerous to thiis country than Germany or Japan ever was. Our nation and our constitution will cease to be if he is re-elected. That is the aim and desire of all Muslims to destroy our nation. Now we have a muslim president that is capable of destroying our nation from within

    • knights templer

I couldn’t agree with you more. Few of us think different. This Kenyan muslim isn’t behind America or gives two hoots about our freedoms only control. What better cell to have than in the White House? Obama is both a domestic and foreign enemy. Anybody wants my guns? Let me give you my ammo first.
When we give up our guns we won’t be citizens but subjects. History has proven that time and time again. Every country that has confiscated citizens guns became enslaved, inprisoned, or killed. Taking guns away from citizens only removes guns from law abiding citizens. Criminals will always, ALWAYS have guns and if you think otherwise you’re stupid, nieve, and or blind.

      • JC

And when Governments ion the past have forced Gun registration on the populace it has lead to Confiscation and then Genocide. So not only will a disarmed public not be “citizens” they will be subjects alright…dead subjects.

      • usmadgirl

        knights templer,

Can you hear my “Amen” to everything you said?!!! Hope so! I’ve been saying this since BEFORE this imposter was elected!

      • Jay

We can make all the best plans, but until we get the rats out of our house, the cheese will always be missing in the morning.

  • Jeepdriver 97

And let’s not forget the Justice Department’s dictate that Dayton Police now have to hire anyone who TAKES the police exam, regardless of their failing score as long as they are a minority. These will be the folks who arrive 20 minutes after your wife and daughter have been raped and killed and you have been forced to watch while tied up because you can’t have a gun.

    • Raggs

      Yeah the
“F”- police will have to stop thirty times and ask for directions from the local 7-eleven as they pick up a bag of doughnuts.. So you can expect a two hour delay in the arrival of your local Barney Fife.

      • JC

Let’s not paint them all with one brush. I’m sure veterans of the Dayton police force aren’t pleased with it either.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Raggs,
you just reminded me of the old show on tv called “F-troop!!! It does sound about right!!

  • meteorlady

‘a new discussion on how we can keep America safe for all our people,’”

Let us have our guns. We will keep ourselves safe. I don’t expect that the police will show up when I’m being robbed or beaten in the street until AFTER it is done. I don’t believe that if someone invades my home, the police will show up until after its done.

Not one single gun used in the incidents that the President mentioned was out there without a nut case human behind it. That’s why I want my gun – to protect me from those type of people and my government of course.

    • Xin-Loi

Like the old saying goes “I carry a gun, a cop is too heavy”.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Xin-loi,
that’s right just use your name if they don’t understand, Xin-Loi minoi!!!

  • Ivan

Obumer is hard at work on the gun issue. HR45 is before the House now! He , Hillary,Holder and Mr. Kho will have our guns and ammunition if we don’t wake up and rouse our legislators. Government control is a much more dangerous weapon than an AR-15. I believe that Thomas Jefferson would have issued AR-15s in the face of such Government Tyranny. Faced with an economy that is failing, constant security threats, the dumbing down of our police and Fire protection personel these bastards want to relieve me of guns that I can depend on to protect my family my property and my country. Tax me, take my rights and make me a criminal. Our government needs to be focused on protecting our borders and our Constitution, not aignoring them.

    • meteorlady

Yup – he can’t find all the guns because a lot of them are unregistered, but he can certainly try and track us through ammo. Why are they so adamant to do this? You want to keep me safe? CONTROL THE BORDERS and stop the smugglers, gang members and all the illegals that have entered here. Round them up and send them home.

      • mouse

Should do what they did in the old west — SHOOT THEM!!

    • Mick

Ivan ,,,,,,,,,,,,,You talk about being able to protect your family, I am with you but we have to do more to protect those rights about to be taken away, if we don’t get the younger generations on board we’re screwed…
Many of us have kids, some of a conservative nature and many more with liberal tendencies. us as parents have the duty to inform those same kids f what could happen to them and families if America continue on this path.
I told my kid that he had his choice but in case he decided to vote for the very people out to destroy the United States ( Democrats ) I still would love him but I would not lift a finger to help him financially( not that he needs it at the moment ) just because he would be part of the destruction of our country and I won’t stand for it others have to take a stand and not give in.
      Have a nice day folks………….

    • JC

      Careful Ivan…
James in “NY” is sitting at a Starbuck’s somewhere licking a Latte and speed dialing the FBI on everyone who sounds like an American or remotely scares him in any way….

  • Armor Piercing

    . Excuse me Mr. President?
. Wasn’t the murderous demonstration in
Arizona a protest of the existing gun control
    background checks?
. Mr. President, if you were to pull on your little girls underware again and again so that you can just take a little peek at what is inside, wouldn’t even a little girl who is not prone to violence strike out at you? Wouldn’t your little girl Mr. President ask you to stop? And, when a creature like you persists Mr. President in pulling at your little girls underware and she strikes out at you with blunt force, is she ill or misguided Mr. President?
. You see Mr. President, the Second Amendment is like your little girls underware. There’s nothing really in there that you would concern yourself with ordinarily. The Founding Fathers put that in the Constitution to cover something that was simply provided by the Creator like the stuff that is covered by your little girls underware Mr. President.
. I’m certain that if you persist in pulling on your little girls underware long enough Mr. President, your little girl will possibly become violent and harm you.

I can think of alot of other examples that could have been used instead of what’s in little girls underwear. That example scares me. Maybe therapy would be the answer for you. That was SICK!!!!!!!!!!

      • JUKEBOX

Don’t worry, Obama is more interested in what’s in big boy’s underwear at the Chicago bath house they visit.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        momplayer,
I have GOT to agree with you on that!!! That is about the sickest thing I have seen here!!

    • Mac

Armor Piercing, I hate to say it but you sound more like Loughner than a sane commenter on this blog.

    • http://deleted Claire

      Good grief.

  • Mick

We always had criminals and always will have criminals especially when the liberals are protecting their rights over the rights of law abiding citizens so this so call attempt by our dear charlatan of president to control the number of weapons dangerous criminals can obtain is nothing but a cover up for his real agenda, a back door to eliminate the rights of citizens to own guns………

  • Larry

Here’s gun control for obummer.FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS>

    • JeffH

…hit what you aim at…that’s my kind of gun control…

      • Raggs

        :)

      • http://?? Joe H.

        JeffH,
I do practice another type of gun control. I control my gun, I control who fires it, I control who touches it, I control where it is stored, I control if it is loaded or not, in other words I CONTROL MY GUN!!

      • JeffH

        Ditto that and amen!

I wish they had done a background chesk on Obama.

I wish they had done a background check on Obama.

      &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
NO DOUBT !! And background checks on many of our so called representatives…………

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Mick,
No doubt, checks for criminal activity during their terms, as well!!!

  • wisguy

Amazing, better background checks! I’m sure the lame street media will get behind that! Why oh Why did they not demand that before this poser got elected!

    • Robin from Arcadia, IN

wisguy… Back ground checks will not slow down those who know where to buy and from whom without the red tape the government is going to make law-abiding citizens go through. The best gun control going is the conceal carry permit! If you don’t know who’s got them, you will be less likely to use one in a harmful way or illegal way. Obama’s agenda is not what is good for America.

      • JUKEBOX

With a thousand dollars in my pocket, I can buy a gun in practically any city in the U.S. within one hour. Gun control is being able to hit what you’re shooting at.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        JukeBox,
with $250.00 in my pocket, I can go to a shop at the end of my street and buy an SCCY 9MM legally in 20 minutes! I live in Ohio and things here as far as buying are just as they should be!! It took me exactly 20 minutes to buy my pistol and I had no problems what so ever, which is exactly as it should be!! i have no record and I am a law abiding citizen.

      • http://deleted Claire

Obama and all politicians should KNOW that anyone can get a gun, any kind of gun at any time. Another useless issue that is wasting time. What about working on the job situation, the economy, the illegals? Good grief, what in hell is wrong with these politicians that are in office? Sorry folks, but I am sick of these politicians that are looking for futile issues to mess around with instead of working on the real and crucial issues.

      • http://deleted Claire

Heck, my dogs have more sense. At least they KNOW what is important!

      • http://deleted Claire

There was a gun owner rally in Springfield this past Saturday. But here in Illinois it will be like beating our heads against the wall. Chicago decides the outcome of everything. Rahm will no doubt be elected next month. I will have to send him a dead fish.

      • JeffH

Joe H, I have to check the CA-DOJ approved handgun roster to see what I can buy first. Then I have to spend $25 buck to take a simple written test so that I can get my little card that says I’m proficient enough to buy a handgun. I take my money to the gunshop, choose my handgun, show them my card, buy it and spend 20 minutes to fill out the paperwork for my background check…then wait ten days to see if I can get it. Welcome to sunny California!

      • http://?? Joe H.

        JeffH’
I have a sister in Sao Paulo and as far back as when I was 15, she was trying to get me to come out there and live. ( I think she wanted a live in babysitter.) I told her then that I’d stay in Michigan where I lived at the time. with all I’m seeing out there now, I’m dam glad I did!!!

      • JeffH

Joe H., was that Sao Paulo or did you mean San Pablo? I grew up in El Sobrante which bordered San Pablo.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        JeffH,
sorry about that. yes I DID mean San Pablo! I still wouldn’t move there!!

    • Bus

Great point, better background checks necessary for candidate running for presidency. We should know where they were born, their school records, etc.

    • usmadgirl

      wiseguy,

Boy! Do you have that right on the mark!!! I can’t believe O’Dumbo has the #@!!$ to even MENTION “background checks” in public!

      • sylviam

        Amen!!!!
When I got my *PERMIT&** to carry the police here in a back woods town where I live, went all the way up to *ITER-POL and all they come up with is I WAS BORN, NOW LIBS GET OFF and STAY OFF OUR BACKS about anything YOU know nothing about.
You don’t like guns obviously but we do,
        GOD BLESS AMERICA

      • JUKEBOX

Obama’s just jealous, because admitted drug users and dealers are not allowed to legally have a gun.

      • http://gunner689 gunner689

They should be given all the guns and ammo they need till they kill each other off. Then we can hang the survivors.

  • usmadgirl

Well, here we go! You can bet that if he passes ANY kind of “gun control” law, it will be 3000 pages with hidden crap in it like the “health care” lie, that will ban our 2nd amendment right completely. That’s exactly what he wants to do…disarm all law abiding, constitution believing citizens so he can have ULTIMATE CONTROL over everyone, but you can bet that all his “thugs” will be armed!

  • Brendan G.

If we’re smart, we’ll get cracking NOW to get a good Republican candidate lined up for 2012. We need Obama to be enjoying a comfortable retirement and a fat pension come Jan 20, 2013… NOT showing his true colors on the gun issue (which he WILL do if he wins a second term.)
Ron Paul, your country needs you!!!

    • http://?? Joe H.

      Brendan G.
Definately NOT the ones considered as of now! Bush 3 and Romney! I’m not real assured with Trump, either!! Give us either of the Pauls or Duncan Hunter SR!!

      • http://deleted Claire

        HoeH–I am inclined to agree.

      • http://deleted Claire

        Claire,
what’s the matter? Hard day with your “boys”? no offense meant and none taken!!!

      • http://deleted Claire

JoeH–the time change sure has screwed this household up. The dogs get us up at 4:00 and they want to eat–and then they want to eat earlier in the evening before I get home from work. Oh well, maybe things will settle down here. Thanks for your courtesy.

Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson Issues Open Letter to Nation’s Sportsmen Regarding Obama’s TRUE History in the Illinois Senate

“I lobbied Barack Obama extensively while he was an Illinois State Senator. As a result of that experience, I know Obama’s attitudes toward guns and gun owners better than anyone. The truth be told, in all my years in the Capitol I have never met a legislator who harbors more contempt for the law-abiding firearm owner than does Barack Obama.”

“While a state senator, Obama voted for a bill that would ban nearly every hunting rifle, shotgun and target rifle owned by Illinois citizens. That same bill would authorize the state police to raid homes of gun owners to forcibly confiscate banned guns.” Obama also voted FOUR TIMES against legislation that would protect a homeowner who use a firearm in defense of home and family!”

The Kenyan is an enemy of the US. He is what might be termed a “Clear and Present Danger to the Security of The United States” and should be removed, first from office, then from the country.
Buy guns, buy ammunition, enforce your RIGHTS as an American and to hell with these commie gun grabbers.

      • James in NY

Pretty nasty response there. The FBI and Secret Service should be all over that one

      • Eddie47d

JC is always extreme in his answers and wants to be the first to start the Revolution. The Second Amendment is in tact JC if you haven’t noticed. I would say Obama is left of center on the gun issue but recognizes that many Americans are just plain sick of the gun violence. We’ve batted this issue around for decades and come to the same conclusion . Which is always more rights for gun owners and fewer controls on keeping track of who buys those weapons or ammo. Few seem to feel safer and there is more anxiety in our country.I don’t think either side comprehends the other and neither is willing to compromise.

      • JC

You’re full of Sh*t as usual Eddie. Start a revolution?
You have NEVER heard me say that.
Extreme? Well for a commie like you, anything one inch to the right of “you” is extreme.
Just another graduate of the Hillary school of frothing at the mouth hysteria.

      • http://?? Joe H.

yeah eddie, people are tired of gun violence, so make it harder for honest people to get guns and protect themselves from it! If it doesn’t happen in those peoples house, then it is none of their business if I shoot an intruder intent on harming me or my family!! It’s not the honest gun owners that are doing the gun violence in the schools or on the street, it’s the crooks!! Start enforcing the laws we already have pertaining to them and leave the rest of us the hell alone!!

      • Eddie47d

Joe; No one is stopping you from protecting your home or loved ones. So stop grandstanding.

      • Eddie47d

JC; Your hyped up, macho man comments don’t cut it. I’ll stand by what I said.

      • JC

There’s nothing hyped up or macho about anything I’ve said eddie boy.
If it looks that way to you…it’s because you’re a sheep in a land of wolves and eagles.

      • 45caliber

        James:

Why? He didn’t threaten Oblama at all. All he said was that the man should be impeached, removed from office, and then sent out of the country. Then he suggested buying guns and ammo and protecting himself.

I don’t see any reason for the feds to get upset about that.

      • JUKEBOX

You don’t have to send Obama out of the country, he does that well enough on his own, like his vacation trip this weekend to Brazil, We just need to refuse to allow him back in the U.S. until he produces his real birth certificate, and his Indonesian passport.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Jukebox,
sounds like a plan to me!!!

      • JC

        James in NY.
You find reality to be “nasty”. That’s not my problem.
I’m not alone either in my questioning of the Kenyan’s eligibility, nor my advocacy of MORAL and RIGHTEOUS gun ownership for the defense of self and country. I do not wish the usurper any physical harm as life is sacred.
Got a problem with that? It’s YOUR problem.

      • JeffH

JC, these cockroaches just keep coming up through the floorboards don’t they?

      • JC

Jeff, I have to deal with teen aged girls as part of my domestic life.
It’s the same mentality, but from “adults”, I just don’t get it…

      • JeffH

JC, do you ever get the eye rolls and the “whattteeevvverrr’s” from your girls? My niece used to do that to her dad, my brother, and she and I had a serious uncle to niece conversation and she stopped doing it, although it was tough. Never had to raise my voice or my hand. That’s was one of the good parts of being respected and trusted by all of my nieces and nephews.

      • JC

        Yeah Jeff, definately. LOL
But what I’m referring to mostly is the comparison between Libs in general and immature young kids. They pout, whine make things up and refuse to look at reality if it isn’t the answer they want.
I have no intention of letting the girls turn into adults of that kind and I already have them questioning the things they are taught, especially as regards history.

      • JeffH

JC, I kinda figured as much. You’ve got good morals and you’re pretty savey. I’m sure your girls will be just fine.

      • JC

        Thanks Jeff,
Yeah they’ll be fine. Their mother is on board with the “reality” crowd and that helps quite a bit.

      • JeffH

James, go back to your boss and your employer Bloombergand and M.A.I.G. where you belong.

      • http://?? Joe H.

Now JeffH, be nice! don’t you remember that Bloomburg and co. think that everywhere is their business??? Let ‘em go to moonshine country and tell ‘em that they have to get rid of their “irons”!!!!! I don’t think he’d be a bother for long!!!

      • JeffH

Joe H., yep! Let ‘em truck through “hillbilly” heaven and then count the bullet holes through their “banner”!

      • usmadgirl

        JoeH & JeffH,

OK guys. I live in one of the places that people THINK is “moonshine country” & “hill billy heaven”! I hope they do bring their propaganda here & all the other “hill billy” places. It should be “interesting”!

      • JeffH

usmadgirl, you are a girl after my own heart! No offense intended, just as JoeH, it was the intended effect on the anti crowd that was important.

      • usmadgirl

        JeffH,

I hope you know I was just kidding. No offense taken! People think we still don’t wear shoes in TN. I wouldn’t if I didn’t have to!

We’ve been “invaded”, as most places, by a lot of progressives, (mostly due to all the progressive teachers & professors teaching the kids everything their parents are against) but basically TN is a pretty conservative state except for uber-progressive Memphis. That’s where that idiot, Congressman Steve Cohen keeps getting re-elected.

We’ve also had a lot of invaders & illegals. Chattanooga is considered one of the best places to live in the entire country.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        USmadgirl,
chattanooga is a very beautiful place. I love the tram on Look Out Mtn. I believe you can see seven states from there!! My father, as a youngster, used to deliver telegrams there on a belt driven motorbike. Had to constantly stop and dress the belt to get to where he was going. Old HWY 27 going out of there has cured many a “yankee” 16 year old from wanting to drive too soon!!! You can meet yourself coming around some of those curves!!!

        You can’t.
And whilke your at it…show me where it says in the Constitution that removing an imposter from office is impossible. Fraud is illegal in the United States..remember?

So is identity theft!!! 11 social security numbers???

      • JeffH

Al, the first thing you’re trying to do is deflect the storyline into another direction and create a rift between gun rights supporters. Secondly, we’re all wise to your brand of Alinsky manipulation. You’re more than welcome to go back to the “Kos” or the “Huff-N-Toke” where you people can breathe, eat and sleep with that crap!

Winghunter, being a wingshooter myself, I’ve paid close attention to this scammer of a POTUS and his disgust for the 2nd Amendment and the Constitution. I’ll share my disgust for the anti-gun movement and the letter that the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre had delivered to Obama. This is how it starts out:

      President Barack Obama
      The White House
      1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
      Washington, D.C. 20500

      Dear Mr. President:

We read your editorial submission to the Arizona Star. However, to focus a national dialogue on guns – and not criminals or mental health issues – misses the point entirely. Americans are not afraid of gun ownership. To the contrary, they overwhelmingly support the fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms. The primary reason why tens of millions of Americans own firearms is that they fear violent criminals roaming the streets undeterred……

…..Unfortunately, your Administration is currently under a cloud for allegedly encouraging violations of federal law…..

read the complete letter of the NRA’s Rebuttal to President Obama on Gun Control Laws here:
