President pegs Locke as next U.S. ambassador to ChinaSeveral media reports have confirmed that President Barack Obama will nominate Commerce Secretary Gary Locke as the next United States ambassador to China.

If his appointment is confirmed by the Senate, Locke, a Democrat, would become the first Chinese-American to hold the post. He would succeed Republican Jon Huntsman, who is leaving the position at the end of April. An announcement regarding Locke's nomination is expected this week.

In an interview with The Associated Press on March 7, Locke said that U.S. exports to China increased by 34 percent last year. However, the American trade deficit with the nation reached a record high in 2010, exceeding $273 billion.

"We in government and the business community want more and faster progress," he told the news provider. "There's still a long way to go."

Locke is the President's third choice to fill the ambassadorship. Obama previously tapped former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, a Democrat, and former Senator Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) to assume the post, but both withdrew their names from consideration.

Huntsman, the former governor of Utah, is a potential GOP challenger to Obama in the 2012 Presidential election. White House leaders have publicly praised Huntsman's contributions to the Obama administration, a tactic that many pundits speculate is an attempt to hurt his candidacy among conservative voters.

    Who does Onumnutts appoint that doesn’t have baggage with them. Tax cheats that he has appointed and dumb bastards cheered for, Geithner, Daschle, Rahmbutt, Holder, Sevilous, all democrap Congress senators and Congress persons with their back door dealings Onumnutts signed off on. Marxist/communist friends like Sterns, Doran, and her Chitcogo bombing ghost writer domestic terrorist and murderer,Clypso Louie, Black Panthers, Trunka the union rug lizard, the muslim rug slugs, just for starters that are joined at the head and hips with Onumnutts. Huntsman is a morman, another religious group that will try and get the better of non mormans, all are way less radical than the most”peaceful” muslims, plus they do claim to be Christians, they do care for the USA, and defend our form of government. But anyone that would serve under a lying anti USA puke, like the marxist muslim moron, doesn’t have too deep of core standrads. I would be real leary of any Republican that will work in Onnumnutts inner group,too many rinos in the shadows of government machinery who want to gain a bit of fame. Simpson, who at one time was my senator, but he suggested no cuts on any beltway slubs which he is part of. When he decided to work with the purple lipped muslim, he proved he always has been a rino. Any one that will work with Onumnutts and any soros socialist dumbocrap, is about as trust worthy as a sun light rattlesnake, unless a shot gun barrel is up to it head. Make sure your finger is in the guard and on the trigger.

      Morman? I didn’t know. They are MUCH worse than Muslims – mostly in Utah and they ALL carry guns even on Univ of Utah campus – - they don’t even require a CHL – - ANY student there can “pack”. Utah is the most dangerous state in the union – they think anyone can own a gun – without even a license! They are all gun nuts – the guy who designed the 50 Calibre machine gun and the BAR was a Morman too. Purveyors of death, that is what they are.

      And they all have lots of wives too! They DON’T believe in Christ only Joe Smith. DEEP THROAT was a Morman and look what a mess he got us into. They are all freakin libs. And the FBI and lots of Fed guv spooks are Morman too – we are NOT safe with those creeps in positions of power.

        What has a Mormon ever done to you personally? What a rant…. there are some nut Mormons to be sure, but they are a group that is outside the main church. If I was you I’d befriend a Mormon – they have a five year supply of food. I have worked with them and they are honest, hard working people for the most part.

      Seems to me that i41 is simply throwing any sh*t he can find at Obama.

      I like to throw too, but let’s be reasonable.

      Huntsman is and has been a VERY competent industrialist and business leader. He speaks perfectly fluent Mandarin and, I believe, has adopted mainland Chinese kids into his family. He KNOWS the chinese and their mentality. In my humble opinion, Obama could NOT have picked a better representative and ambassador for our country. Oh, yes, did I mention that he is and always has been a strong GOPer (this is his WORST characteristics in my opinion).

      Huntsman might be an ideal GOP candidate for the Prez. I vote Ron Paul.

      I don’t like Obama – never have and never will, but I HATE Bush much more – always have and always will. Obama is Bush with bigger ears and a better tan.

    Under other circumstances, Locke might be worth considering. Does he speak Mandarin?
    If he doesn’t speak Mandarin, then Locke probably wouldn’t serve any practical purpose, other than someone who looks the part or has managed to get on Obummer’s short list.
    So far, I don’t have any reason to think any of Obummer’s administration got jobs because they were qualified. That way, all of them can be replaced just as fast as they’re appointed. Kinda like musical incompetents – just like the ‘boss.’

      Huntsman has more conservative and business and intellectual credentials than you and me put together. And Obama chose him.

      So try to stop with the flaming speech and keep to the truth.

      I am not familiar with Locke – what are his Bona Fides?

        Locke was governor of Washington state. He ran up deficits, did mostly nothing and love the limelight. He didn’t do much at all for the state except continue down the liberal path.

    I lived in Washington State when Locke was governor. He’s a do nothing publicity hound. Sorry, but he wasn’t even suitable for the Secretary of Commerce except that he’s probably really good a kissing up to Obama.
