Benefits Of Herbal Tea Examined

Researchers at Tufts University have tested the effects of herbal teas and found that there may be some significant health benefits, including reduced blood pressure and strengthened allergy immunity.
A team of scientists examined the health benefits of chamomile, peppermint and hibiscus tea in a study that was published in the journal Agricultural Research.
They found that chamomile tea — which has been known for its calming effects — has properties in it that may prevent blood clots. Researchers also observed that it may be antimicrobial, which means that it could be effective in staving off disease or infection.
Peppermint tea had similar antimicrobial properties, in addition to exhibiting antiviral, antioxidant and antitumor effects. Additionally, authors of the study said peppermint was shown to be anti-allergenic.
In a test of individuals who had regular or mild hypertension, the researchers found that hibiscus tea was effective in lowering blood pressure levels.
Study authors said the findings of the trials are significant enough to warrant further research on herbal teas.
The United States Department of Agriculture and The Hain Celestial Group provided funding for the study.
