Experts: Take New Year’s Weight Loss In Stages
January 7, 2011 by Personal Liberty News Desk

As 2011 gets under way, many people have resolved to lose weight in the new year. One expert advises that those hoping to shed unwanted pounds should try approaching weight loss on a step-by-step basis.
According to Stefanie C. Barthmare, a psychotherapist at the Methodist Weight Management Center at Methodist Hospital in Houston, losing weight is as mental as it is physical. Hopeful dieters should try and break the process into small tasks and visualize approaching each stage one at a time.
"Instead of making the number on the scale the focus, look for other ways to find to measure success" she said in a recent hospital news release.
Barthmare went on to explain that setting a new dietary goal and sticking to it can be key to success. She cited cutting down on soda to perhaps one per day to start before even eliminating it from the diet eventually.
Individuals hoping to increase their weight loss may want to try adding vitamin D and calcium nutritional supplements to their diet. Several studies, including one from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, found that adding more of each substance to a diet can aid in weight loss efforts.
