Repeal Of DADT Passes House, Heads To Senate

December 20, 2010 by

Repeal of DADT passes House, heads to SenateThe House of Representatives has voted to overturn the ban on openly gay and lesbian soldiers serving in the military, and it appears as though the Senate may pass the bill as well.

On Dec. 15, the House voted 250 to 175 to approve a stand-alone bill that would repeal "don't ask, don't tell" (DADT). Previously the measure was tied to a larger defense policy bill, which was passed in the House but later stalled in the Senate.

Several GOP Senators have pledged their support for the repeal of DADT, but will only vote in favor of the legislation after the chamber approves a Federal budget. According to The Boston Globe, Susan Collins (R-Maine), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Scott Brown (R-Mass.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) have agreed to back the stand-alone repeal, which would give Democrats the 60 votes needed to approve the law.

"If and when a stand-alone repeal bill comes up for a vote, he will support it," Brown's spokeswoman, Gail Gitcho, told the news provider.

Some conservative Republicans, however, have argued that a repeal of DADT would place an unreasonable burden on the military in the midst of combat in Afghanistan. Representative Todd Akin (R-Mo.) called the measure a "liberal crusade to create a utopia," according to CNN.

The issue here is not homosexual or straight. Its about normalizing abnormal behavior and mainstreaming it. Homosexuals have served in the military for hundreds of years. What a person does on their own time and behind closed doors is their business. I am a former Marine and if I saw two marines in uniform holding hands……well I can’t say but unless gays maintain some form of descretion and avoid flaunting their new found freedoms, we’re looking at some serious problems. They need to keep their repugnant behavior behind closed doors.

    • Karolyn

Do male and female soldiers sleeping together hold hands? I would think not. Why would homosexual soldiers hold hands?

      • 45caliber

Why do they hold hands when they have one of their gay parades? The hetrosexual people don’t.

      • Karolyn

Oh, really? Heterosexual people don’t hold hands in parades? What kind of statement is that? Who cares if people hold hands, as long as they don’t do it while they are supposed to be doing their job professionally.

      • crystal

In what situation are male and female soldiers bunking together? I was in the military, where was all of this?

      • 45caliber

        crystal:

Karolyn has never been in the military and knows absolutely nothing about military life. At best she’s watched a few movies. So most of what she says about the military is based solely on what she believes it must be like – including the dadt. She simply cannot understand that the military is NOTHING like civilan life and has a totally different set of ideals and thought.

      • Karolyn

You are right 45. However, I have known soldiers and also have heard interviews with soldiers. I know what kind of mentality can exist. But – it doesn’t have to. That’s the point.

      • crystal

Many civilians (i.e., Karolyn), believe the movie “Stripes” is a true depiction of military life.

    • Bill

Check out the future look of the new Army.http://www.massresistance.org/

  • Patrick

Who cares what their sex preference is, as long as they can pick up a weapon and defend oneself. It doesn’t matter whether you are in a fox hole with a gay or female, as long as you are not boinking either one at the time, you just want that person to back you up, so what difference does the sex preference make??
Just as long as they don’t flaunt it, that is sickening.

    • 45caliber

The Israeli army used to be mixed in combat. They stopped it because too many would be bonking (as you put it) at the wrong time. Further, in combat, the senior person would expect everyone else to place their lives in danger to guard their lover. So they disbanded that program.

Today they do have gays in their military. But if a gay person starts making something of it, they can still be kicked out. That is what they insist can’t be done now in our military.

      • Robert Smith

Shucks 45… I’d like to see our military get excessively christian bigots out for threatening gays or happy when they die.

All to get into your god’s version of heaven. What a hateful religion you demonstrate along with samurai and sook.

        Rob

  • 45caliber

I haven’t read everyone’s comments here, but I was told by the news media that the Senate passed it Saturday night about midnight. Oblama has agreed to sign it. So it is a done deal.

On the other hand, I’ve seen several remarks by others elsewhere about the military reaction to this. For instance, one officer (a major) was going to reinlist for another term to be promoted to Lt.Colonel and get the pay raise. He’s decided to not bother since he expects the military morale to go to h3ll in a handbasket. Others are in the same boat. Sex and the military doesn’t mix – one reason they try to keep men and women seperate. Now they will have the problem keeping men and men seperate as well as women and women. How can you run a war when you have to monitor EVERYONE’s sexual activity?

And despite the pro-gay people on here, the military must do something or a lot of soldiers will begin to be shot in “friendly fire” eposodes due to someone no liking being hit upon when he’s trying to sleep.

    • Karolyn

45 – Just because they’re gay doesn’t mean they’re thinking about sex all the time! Do you? They are the same as you except for their sexual preference. They have just as muc control as any man. Or is that the problem: Men don’t have any control? If men and women were in the same barracks, would the men be jumping all the women? The military is supposed to be more disciplined than that.

      • 45caliber

They are disciplined to work together. But to work together, they have to be trusted. Most gays in the military are the kind that makes DADT meaningless – they have no interest in talking about sex or making passes. It is the vocal gays who consider the military as a sex club who are the problem. See my answer to you further above here.

      • Teresa

No…they only have to think of it ONCE..they only have to make ONE pass at another man in the unit or fighting along side them to cause tention…..DONT YOU THINK THAT WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS!!!!!!!! That is the difference!

      • Doc Sarvis

I respect our armed forces enough to know that, as a whole, they are disciplined, professional, and honorable. Too bad you have a much lower opinion of them.

      • Teresa

Doc, I do like debating w/you at times but not on this for I loose my anger too much. I pray for strength in order to be able to only talk rationally quite honestly. First let me remark that you of all should know I have more respect for the military than you do in your lil pinky in which all you seem to do is speak of gay rights NOT for military rights so please spare me your snide remarks please. This is nothing to do with our armed forces except to weaken our forces and for our congress to play their lil political games while people like you sit back in your seats and throw out stupid remarks about gay rights.

      • Doc Sarvis

        Teresa,
You must think I have one HUGE pinky because I have tremendous respect for our armed forces.
I am not speaking for “gay rights”, I don’t even like that term. I am speaking for the strength and integrity of our armed forces. Repealing DADT is essential to improve our already great military. DADT is a bad rule that keeps our soldiers from complete integrity.
As for politics, in the hearings last week or two weeks ago I heard the heads of the service branches agree that the courts will impose the repeal on them and that is the last thing they need to deal with. All of the leaders want to implement the policy of openly serving homosexuals on their own terms. I am in total agreement with them.

      • AMJ

Are you kidding me? How many men do you know? They always have sex on the brain. It’s programmed into their genetic material. The survival of the species. Your comments on this issue and your defense of a degenerate behavior really show your ignorance of the issue presented here. And for you to not be able to see another’s opinion and objectively look at it is telling about your personality.

      • Karolyn

It’s not programmed into their genetic material. It’s programmed by society. In matriarchal societies, it is not the case.

      • RedWing55

        Karolyn,

BS, BS, BS!!! I’m a male (and significantly older, having already served 28 years in the military) and it’s on my mind frequently. And thankfully I’m married to a wonderful woman and we engage as frequently as we can. I have a 23 year old son that is a SGT (11B) and am pretty sure that like most young men, he only thinks about sex when he breaths.

      • Karolyn

        Programming.

      • B. Johnson

Men think about sex every 20 minutes or so. Women are the “governor” in a “relationship”. Two men together…constant sex. It’s a fact.

      • Karolyn

Oh, puhleeeze! My gay friends were not like that at all; and I’ve know quite a few gay couples. If you saw them together, you might not even know they were couples except that they acted like old married couples.

      • Bob Wire

“Women are the “governor” in a “relationship”. Two men together…constant sex. It’s a fact.”

WeLL Johnson, It’s true they both have a Johnson. But it’s also true, one of them is a woman trapped in a mans body.

Now how that might change things, the devil if I know?

It’s kinda hard to get your mind around I know.

I’ve had enough of this thread ~ I don’t allow my mind to go just anywhere and I’ve indulged this topic enough. ~

Just understand, these people are victims of nature and then society and like all other people, you can find both good and bad. The few that I know are well above the average in IQ and maturity. But I don’t know enough to comment above that.

      • Robert Smith

        Hi Bob,

You posted: “The few that I know are well above the average in IQ and maturity.”

Mensa (us.mensa.org) has a very large gay, lesbian, transgender, transsexual SIG (Special Interest Group).

Check it out. Smart folks like to hang out with smart folks. It’s kinda like watching a bunch of bigots flocking together.

    • eddie47d

Your door is warped shut Caliber. It will all work out just fine if you are willing to let it work. If you are trying to sabotage the repeal with talk of guys “sneaking into bed” together or shooting each other on the front lines then you are too far gone. Heterosexuals have shot or fragged other heterosexuals in other wars so I’d be more worried about them.

      • 45caliber

Well, eddie, I’m glad you aren’t worried about the gays. It says a lot about you. Perhaps some of what you don’t intend it to say.

I’m concerned for the military performing its duties. With over 25% of the military saying that they cannot trust a gay soldier to defend them, then that gay soldier either won’t be defended in turn or they will get out. And we don’t have enough soldiers now.

I’ve heard several people insist that the Dems want to re-institute draft – and I’ve heard Dem politicians say the same thing. Many believe that this repeal is made to do just that. Too many soldiers quit and when they do, they start the draft to make up for it. Perhaps you will be one to be called.

In any case, there WILL be some of the problems I’ve mentioned. Certainly not all gays will be this way; in fact, many won’t be any different than they are now, putting the job before their sexual desires. The problem is that many vocal gays want to get in because they consider the military to be a giant sex club with people who can’t get away from them. Even they know that many of those soldiers will ignore them. What they want is simply a way to proposition others without getting into trouble for it while making the military guard them from any attack by others.

      • Bob Wire

“The problem is that many vocal gays want to get in because they consider the military to be a giant sex club with people who can’t get away from them. Even they know that many of those soldiers will ignore them. ”

        What a grisly thought!

I hope you are wrong! There would be some killing going on.

Army life was tough enough as it is.

When I was in training, we had a few race riots, but of course no one ever heard about them. How could you know? There was no “report” no “news team” no writer, no police. Some of the blacks were ganging up against the whites. Some 15 or so with 5 leaders. It got to where no one could move about alone or even groups of three.

It started with busting in chow lines to laying in wait and ambushing with overwhelming odds, taken money or whatever, putting people in the hospital, beat up bad. This went on for several weeks and then early one dark morning it came to an end. ~ Godfather style as everyone lay sleeping in their bunks. It was ended in 15 minutes. It was sicking, it was necessary, it was done.

The Army life was never a safe life. I hate the thought of anyone having to live through what I did.

To add macho gays to the equation gives me chills and my blood runs cold.

      • Bill

Oorah! Yes ut was unfortunate that such sanctions as “Blanket Parties” were needed , but they are very effective to a disciplined squad.

  • Santi

Alex you are really an ——. I won’t say, because I won’t go there to the place you are at. I would hate to be you when judgement day comes. You will be knocking on the door to heaven and GOD will say go away for I do not know you. You will knock and knock and the answer will still be the same. Wake up GOD still loves you, you still have time to change. I have servered this great country as well as my children. I will encourage them to get out, pretty soon we will have an army of fag—ts. Then that is when our enemies will over run us. I hope that day does not happen in my life time. I do wish it on you Alex homo.

  • Raggs

I think the straight people outnumber the gay and the straight will avoid the military.. Give this a couple of years and we will have a total gay military unless there is a draft.

    • Karolyn

      ROFLMAO!

      • Teresa

Karolyn, do you find humor in this? Have you or your family served? Do you not see that this is nothing but a political move and nothing more….congress does not care about what the military members really think they only are doing this for THEIR personal reasons and gains and nothing more. If they were really concerned about our military don’t you think the militarys votes would have been the first counted, or they would have gotten their raises or the military would be told truths, or the military would be treated better???? No Karolyn this is nothing but mere politics and you and others alike only see what you choose and the Military is the one who suffers, the very ones who are there fighting for us, and the very ones paying the ultimite price in this lil political game.

      • Karolyn

The statement was just so ridiculous, I couldn’t help it!

      • crystal

There’s something seriously wrong with you.

      • Karolyn

I don’t claim to be perfect, but at least I have an open mind.

      • crystal

Most people who claim to have an open mind usually can’t handle opposition or difference of an opinion.

      • Karolyn

Yeah, I noticed that about you Crystal.

    • 45caliber

It might be true – but you would also find that the military would shrink a lot. Actually I wouldn’t be surprised to see the same thing they do in prisons – the gays are put together on one wing and are kept seperate from the rest – for the protection of the gays.

  • marvin

i don,t care if your gay. fag, lisie or straight, but i will make a prediction in the nov 2012 election ,anyone that voted for the repeal of dadt will have to tell the allmost 70% of the american voters why, they thought it nessary to fix something that was not broke it has worked for 19 years, the military is not a social club, it has one purpose, and that is to protect and serve the american people ,it a solder job is to do as told ,i maybe wrong but this is still a christan nation and homosex is a mortal sin,and any congress person that saz i belive in god and voted to repeal dadt is not a christan and the truth an,t in them, you can say or think what you what this was a liberal pay back by pelosie and reid and obama for votes

    • Karolyn

Who says gay soldiers don’t do as they’re told?

      • 45caliber

Who says they will? If they don’t, they will have run off a lot of otherwise good soldiers and then won’t act to take their places. If they do fight, then they won’t have the other soldiers there to back them up.

      • Doc Sarvis

Homosexuals have been serving in our armed forces since we have had armed forces. They fight and they follow orders as well as any soldier.

      • 45caliber

Right. And they are there in the military because they want to serve as soldiers. But … what about the ones who want to serve so they can be around all those buff soldiers? The ones who want to serve openly so they can proposition all those hunks?

      • Karolyn

Well then, 45, if they break the rules, they get in trouble, right?

      • B. Johnson

Depends on what they’re being told to do. “Bend over” would be happily obeyed.

  • hundabuxt

We’ve sadly seen another nail in the coffin of our republic with the sanction of homosexuality openly in the military.
Those of you in favor of this let me ask you a question: Would it be OK to now allow coed showers, living quarters, etc? See anything wrong with a female and a male sharing a room or a shower together? Liberals are fools and a cancer on our society.

    • Karolyn

If women weren’t so objectified in this society, co-ed everything would be no problem. In a male-dominated society, it is a very difficult goal to achieve.

      • 45caliber

Why would you want the women to be treated the same?

      • Robert Smith

Hey 45, how the heck are you?

See if you can rent the movie version of “Starship Troopers” and see how men and women can live and fight together. I know, I know, you are going to call it fiction. That’s what I think about your bible but at least I’ve taken the time to read it. Why don’t you see another point of view?

        Rob

      • crystal

That’s such an idiotic statement. Separating sexes in certain situations is normal, natural, and correct.

      • Karolyn

Did you ever stop to think that it could be different? No, you never did. You don’t look at things from a wider scope. You can’t. Your ideology won’t let you.

      • crystal

        No, but common sense does.

    • B. Johnson

He is making an analogy, not a recommendation. Don’t you see that?

    • Bill

Its already happening, they want to use restrooms, locker rooms etc.Change their gender on their drivers license.Check out this website

  • Teresa

I hear a lot of people speak of political correctness AGAIN and the gays have rights to be open in the military and again you are entitled to your opinion but I will ask you….You speak so freely of peoples rights the same rights that have been taken away of so many christians w/morals of whom might I add this country was founded on. Would you be so willing to stand for their rights when the time comes??? You see this nation has lost its morals and the majority does not count any longer and political corectness comes over morals. The family value and God have no place in lots of Americans any longer and yet so many wonder why our nation is in the way it is. It is hypocricy at its best…we fight hard to keep GOD (what our nation stands for and represents) Our true creator, in our schools, our nation, our family and the “political correct” want to take him out. Again, I ask you….when it comes will you stand for God as well?

    • marvin

      Teresa
my ansure is no,we the ones that want to live and let live, have been backed in to a corner,by a liberal goverment that has put up cameras to see are ever move they have vans that look thru your house and car with out you knowing it ,are goverment can build mosque in other country but we have the so called seperation of church and state here ,goverment works for we the people and we have the power to change them in goverment,so call/ email, your reps ever day tell them what you want, and join like mine people, like tea party haritage numberusa for just a start, and we can change things we disagree on,their are still more god fearing christens here then their are none belivers,so less show them in power who really is in power

    • Bruce D.

You could make the case as homosexuals are coming out of the closet Christians are being forced into the closet. There is no place having to do with government that you cannot be openly gay. Yet the ACLU and liberal democrats are opening against showing any kind of religious freedom for Christians on government property. You only have to read some of the posts here to see the hatred fermenting for Christianity. At the same time tolerance for Muslims traditions are being pushed to the forefront.

      • marvin

        Bruce D.
what you say is true but i can tell you who will win all the ansure,s are in the greatest book ever wrote, and it starts with,IN THE BEGINNING,AND ENDS WITH BE READY TO DIE FOR NO MAN SHELL ENTER UNTO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN LEST HE BE BORN AGIN

      • Teresa

        AMEN!

      • Teresa

Like I said before, I come from a very long line of military background and I know for a fact that once you break the mentality of your unit then you have no unit to depend upon, we are in war times and you HAVE to be able to trust EVERY single person next to you. You do not have to go to bed every single night worrying about the pressures of walking on your tippy toes on how to react around someone next to you if they are exposing their open sexual desires especially if they are gay. How do you really think it will effect our soldiers at war when open gays are fighting side by side on the line and these trained soldiers (openly gay) are on either side of YOU and your unit depended upon their split decision, (save the unit or their lover you have less than a second to decide)….you don’t think that for one split second that you would not second question their actions??? There will be a lot of split second decisions and you can not afford ANY of it…This is war and not a game, you can not afford to be playing with lives to be politically correct.

      • Bill

        I vote for the unit.

      • Karolyn

Teresa, As I posted below, there are many soldiers coming out with stories of having served with gays with no problems whatsoever. There are problems with straights who are in the majority, so what’s the problem?

      • Karolyn

Bruce – It’s not hatred for Christians; it’s hatred for the holier-than-thou, in-your-face WE KNOW attitude of Christians. Did you ever stop to think that YOU COULD BE WRONG? Ask me the same question, and I will say “yes.” There’s the difference. Christians have tunnel vision. when I was a Christian, I was afraid to read certain things because my friend, who was a devote converted Catholic, would scare me into thinking I would be damned if I read it. God gave us free will so that we could think for ourselves, so why would he damn us for doing it?

      • Bill

Maybe because His Son died to gives the opportunity to repent?

      • Karolyn

So you believe, and that’s fine for you.

    • Bruce D.

Nina Totenberg“I was at – forgive the expression – a Christmas party,” NPR reporter Nina Totenberg interjected on Inside Washington in the weekend’s oddest cautionary separation from a common description for a common event, seemingly embarrassed to invoke any religious terminology for Christmas.”

  • Angel

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell? DON’T CARE! The House and Senate should spend more time on getting people back to work right now! And table the DREAM act too – until citizens are working, we can’t address a route to citizenship for anyone else.

    • 45caliber

I agree. From what I’ve seen so far, the Dems are far more interested in getting these deals passed to buy votes than they are at trying to get a budget passed. They want to get these things done before they lose their majority in Congress. They KNOW that the new Congress will have to pass a budget regardless of these things they want now.

    • crystal

That would be too much like doing the right thing.

  • Norm

Anyone who is willing to die for the US deserves a little appreciation.
I’m sure homosexuals won’t be attacking heterosexuals any more than men are attacking women.
Quite frankly, I don’t really understand homosexuality but it certainly does exist and can’t be ignored.

    • 45caliber

I hope you are right. But that also depends upon your definition of “attacking”. To me, if a guy (or gal) won’t shut up and keeps hitting on me that is attacking. And sooner or later, if the government refuses to stop this, I will. And, in a war zone, that wouldn’t be all that hard to do.

So tell me, if the gays suddenly start dying rapidly in Iraq, what are you going to be saying?

    • Karolyn

I know, and have known, many gays and lesbians with very good morals. That has nothing to do with this. AND…they go to church and are Christian.

      • crystal

If they are homosexual, how do they have morals? The very fact that one is homosexual is anti-moral.

      • 45caliber

And if they are deliberately sinning as defined by the Bible, then I can hardly see how they could be truly Christian either. Somehow I don’t believe the argument that “God has my soul but my body belongs to me” will go over well when they die.

      • Karolyn

If you must keep pointing to the Bible, read some of the other translations and interpretations. Translating Greek to English can be very tricky, and words get used differently by different translators. That alone can change whole sections of the Bible. Have you ever been curious to see what other translators have to say, or are you afraid that they are of the devil?

      • S.C.Murf

To be different is not a sin. The sexual act between two men or two women IS an abomination in the eye’s of God.

    • B. Johnson

And now, it will be “IN YOUR FACE!” Watch.

  • Jukebox

I find it very ironic that the secular Congress delivered the ultimate insult to the Christians right at Christmas time. I believe that, if they want this policy, they should let all of the gays be segregated in one division of the Armed Services. This way, they would not be allowed to rub their lifestyles in the face of heterosexual members. The Bible & the Quran both declare this an abomination.

All religious tracts I have seen are written by MEN in order to attain from the gullible money and/or power.

God really laughs at the story of Noah’s Ark, thinks it’s quite a hoot!

The Obamacare health care bill surpasses both the Bible and the Quran in quantity of text and of your definition of fantasy. It was definitely written by silly men with the ultimate purpose of gaining excessive power. The IRS Code also fits into this category.

  • Castaway

Let the bible be your guide, or burn in the fires of hell. Its entirely up to you. You know what the bible says about queers, so you be the judge.

    • Doc Sarvis

I don’t think the bible says ANYTHING about “queers”. Better read more carefully.

      • 45caliber

Doc. I have read my Bible (capitalize) regularly. And there are several passages about it. If you haven’t found it, you are being careful to not look. Where do you believe the name “sodomize” comes from?

      • crystal

Yes, it does. Maybe you should read a Bible (really read one), then you’ll have an argument to stand on.

      • Doc Sarvis

Please tell me what passage uses the word “queers”.

      • 45caliber

Oh, I see. If it doesn’t use a modern work for homosexuals, then obviously it is wrong.

Boy, are you really reaching for that one!!! Did you dislocate your arm?

      • B. Johnson

It all depends on what the definition of “is”, is. Liberals, lol.

    • Angel

It’s funny how the Biblical (Bible should be capitalized) argument comes up about homosexuality, while we overlook some of the laws in the Bible – keeping the Sabbath, honoring your mother and father, the woman’s role in the marriage, even the mixing of animal skins in garments that we wear. If you are a true Christian literalist, then you cannot pick and choose passages to support your views while ignoring laws and commandments that seem outdated or irrelevant now.

      • 45caliber

Well, I don’t know about you but here in Texas we are doing a fair job of these things – except the wearing of animal furs. Frankly, I haven’t found that in my Bible yet. Can you tell me where it is forbidden?

      • Robert Smith

You should read more of Lavaticus. BTW, don’t eat any cheesburgers either.

        Rob

      • S.C.Murf

How about the sabbath being from friday sunset to saturday sunset. Man does not abide by this either.

      • 45caliber

        Your point being …?

Most of the Christian world is not taking the 7th day off as a day of rest – they choose to take the first day off since that was the first day of the week when Christ rose from the dead. So it is obvious that you know very little at the most about Christianity.

      • Robert Smith

        Hi Marty,

Any “biblical” aruments to those of us who aren’t “christian” of any sort have ZERO meaning.

        Rob

    • Robert Smith

      Hey Castaway,

I don’t care what your bible says. Guit using it as a club to beat others up with. That’s a heck of a thing to do with a book that is supposed to teach about loving others.

Using the bible as a weapon to hate others… Sheesh what a corruption. I wonder what your god thinks about that.

      Rob

  • Santi

This gov. is going to pass this sh-t. I think the number of friendly fire killings will come to light. Who in their right mind wants to go to war with homos? Having to take showers with these so called homos. The military does not want this law to pass. Why should they be forced to live like that? Talk to any military strait person. They will tell you the facts. Enough said

    • Karolyn

I have heard of many in the military who back this. There was someone who posted on one of these blogs that he had served with gays, and there were no problems with it.

      • 45caliber

And I served with gays and there was a problem. So … tell me, why would you believe that there will be no problems based on what one person tells you and not pay any attention to others who say there is a problem??

      • Karolyn

People have problems with people!!! It doesn’t matter if their gay or straight. If people in the military are professional and MATURE and secure in their own sexuality, there should be no problems. Trouble is our society has created this lack of love and respect, so everybody’s a big baby, and that includes unprofessional gays.

      • crystal

…and I served with homosexuals and their were big problems with it.

      • Doc Sarvis

Sounds like you were in a unit that had a breakdown in military conduct and discipline.

      • 45caliber

It sure did – on the gay side.

      • Bill

Not at all, problems were solved with blanket parties.

      • B. Johnson

Perhaps less of a problem when it’s “don’t tell” than when it’s
“WE WILL TELL, NOW WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT??”

    • Doc Sarvis

Homosexuals have ALWAYS been part of our military. It does not make a difference when you have a well trained, professional, and disciplined force as we do.

      • 45caliber

        Doc:

Have you ever been in the military? I seriously doubt it. Those of us who have are against this because we can see the writing on the wall. Well trained, disciplined are excellent for defeating an enemy. But you tear that all apart when you introduce problems. And this is certainly a problem for at least 25% of the military. Why cause the problem when only a few hundred gay people are affected by it?

      • Doc Sarvis

There is only a problem when there is a breakdown in discipline and professionalism. I know our soldiers are far better than any other nation’s military. Openly homosexual soldiers are integrated in other country’s military with no irregular problems. Our forces have been doing this and will continue to incorporate homosexuals because we have the best in the world. DADT can only detract from the integrity of our fighting men and women.

      • crystal

Site your study on other nations so we can all look at your proof.

      • Doc Sarvis
      • Doc Sarvis

        Crystal,
The list I provided above shows that other countries have done accepted homosexuals openly along with heterosexuals in their fighting forces. I know that we can accomplish this and do it better than any one of these countries.

      • 45caliber

        Doc:

You just answered by question. You have never been in the military and know absolutely squat about it. You are guessing and nothing more. Please reserve your comments for something you know a little about.

      • B. Johnson

I have no sources for this statement, but heard somewhere that every civilization that embraced homosexuallity has fallen. Maybe someone else has the facts?

      • http://gunner689 gunner689

did you ever think that just maybe those other countries military aren’t the top of the heap because they have queers in the military??

      • http://gunner689 gunner689

did you ever think that just maybe those other countries military aren’t the top of the heap because they have queers in the military?

      • Karolyn

Crystal – One of the soldiers who called in on the radio today was an MP and had contact with many soldiers in Afhganistan from Austrailia and other countries who indicated they had no problem in their armies with gays, and there were no restrictions on them.

      • eddie47d

Caliber; 30,000 gays were discharged from the military in the last 15 years because someone found out. That is only the ones that were known. So it does matter in how you discriminate against others.

    • http://none Alex

Get back in your cage of intolerance, Santi Claws, or grow up and read the news.

The mercenary military, from the top brass to the grunts who shoot civilians for sport, overwhelmingly support repeal of DODT.

      • FlaJim

Don’t know where you get your information from but polls show an estimated 25% of the military will not reenlist with this new practice in place and that includes about 40% of the officer corps.

The ‘majority’ you heard about favoring or not very opposed consist mostly of desk jockeys, not the fighting men who overwhelmingly reject it.

What is astonishing is that so many must adjust to a tiny percentage (less than 3%) who subscribe to this learned sexual misbehavior. It’s a mental and moral sickness that should not be encouraged.

      • Karolyn

What adjustment? I’m sure there are numerous gays serving who have been accepted by their fellow soldiers, whether or not they are known to be gay or not. If a man is a real man in every sense of the word and happy in his masulinity, he should not be bothered by gays.

      • 45caliber

        Karolyn:

Being around a gay person is not a problem … as long as he concentrates on his job. And most do. Those are not the ones we don’t want around. To tell the truth DADT doesn’t apply to them because they do work and don’t talk about sex. It is the ones who don’t keep quiet that are the problem.

Tell me, what would you do it everytime you went out someone showed up to proposition you and would then try to argue with you when you told them no? Further, you worked at the same place he did and when you two were required to work together he spent all his time trying to proposition you? You go to your boss about him and he insists in turn that he isn’t doing anything – you are the one who is causing the problem by insisting he’s a different race or gay and you don’t want him around. Further, he insists that he gets any promotion and pay raise because he’s been discriminated against in the past. He ends up as your boss – and then starts hinting that you’d better go out with (and end up in bed with him) or you’ll never get a promotion or a pay raise again?

That is exactly what the more vocal gays want. And they want it in the military.

      • Karolyn

How do you know 45? I would think that any gays entering the military would have the right mindset about doing their jobs to the best of their ability, especially now. Do you really think that they want to be in the military just to prove a point? That they would subject themselves to being killed just to be around straight men? I think not. They are and can be just as disciplined as any straight man.

      • 45caliber

        Karolyn:

Most gays in the army ARE good. But there are many who consider the military as a sex club – just as there are many women who join for that reason. (Did you know that on a naval ship sent to the mid-East all but about 5-6 women got pregnant on the way over so they wouldn’t have to be in combat?) We have a man where I work who was sent over. He is First Sergeant to his company – which basically means he is the personnel manager. Two weeks after he went to train for the mission, two women in his company were arrested for mooning the Fort Commander. Their defense? They thought they were mooning the pass bus.

On the woman’s side, there are a LOT of problems even though the women normally are not given any combat role – for that very reason. And now you want to introduce men who are gay to the same thing? Straight men may accept women who act this way but another man is another matter. I just don’t want to get any killed!

      • crystal

When were you ever a man? You do not have the right to tell heterosexual men how to be men. This mentality of yours is the problem many of the heterosexual men had to deal with from lesbians in the military. The level of disrespect from one white lesbian who constantly called Black Men Marines “Ni_ _ ers” created a world of problems. She sounded just like you. I am so glad she was put out of the military. I don’t care how well she may have done her job. She was a major problem.

      • eddie47d

Caliber; With your way of thinking I guess we ought to abolish the Catholic Church. Since women can’t serve as priests and the men are questionable pedophiles why have any Catholics at all.In other words should the good priests leave the priesthood because of a few who didn’t fit in. There are gay ministers in other faiths also but they don’t go around molesting anyone. The military has for centuries “hired” thugs, rapists, murderers and a wide assortment of people. I bet the majority of those types were and are heterosexual.

      • Karolyn

45 -When it comes to sexual harassment, there is a chain of command to go to, same as in an office. They screw around, they get kicked out – simple!

      • 45caliber

A friend noted that her son (a major) wasn’t going to re-enlist now. The reason? He expects problems to better than double. He simply don’t want to deal with them. So he is giving up his 20 year retirment (even though he only has a few more years to go) simply to avoid it. And a lot of others are in the same position.

      • Doc Sarvis

Sounds like he is serving in a unit with little discipline and professionalism.

      • 45caliber

Oh, then you are saying that only discipline and professionalism exist in those who either are gay or support gay rights over the rights of others. You must be quite disciplined and professional then.

      • 45caliber

        Alex:

Really? As someone else said, where do you get your info?

The army, the marine, and the air force generals on the military General Staff are all against it. Only the naval admiral and the Chief of Staff stated that they believe the military can work around the problem. Notice that even they state that they had to “work around the problem”. Why even bother to create a problem if you don’t have to?

      • Doc Sarvis

That is not what I heard in the hearings.

      • 45caliber

You should have paid more attention to what the generals were publically saying instead of paying attention to just the hearings.

      • Rusticus

Here’s what a real problem looks like. Many homosexual intelligence people who were fluent in Arabic and other languages of the middle east were released. This hurt us a great deal in intelligence gathering and understanding intercepts.

Repealing DADT is only a problem in your mind. When Truman desegregated the armed forces, it was done without all the whining we are seeing today.

The fact is, homosexuals are ALREADY completely integrated in the military.

      • RedWing55

        Rusticus,

If you were even around when Truman integrated the Armed Forces that would make you at least 62 (if born in 1948). There were tremendous problems with integration and it took the majority of the Armed Forces about 30 years to fully adjust to things. TF (Task Force) Smith during the start of the Korean War was one of the disasters of integration.

Integration was the right thing to do, but don’t act like everybody got together and sang campfire songs together. The road was long and arduous and only overcome by great leadership. The military will overcome this hurdle also, but the timing is horrible (during the conduct of 2 wars) and Congress would never accede to the rules they’ll force the military to follow.

      • crystal

There’s a huge difference between Black men being drafted and homosexuals volunteering.

      • Robert Smith

Correct Chrystal… Gays WANT to defend the America they love. They want the same opportunities for GI Bill, the same respect heterosexuals get for putting their lives on the line, and for folks to know that they are just as tough as bigots.

        Rob

  • newspooner

Tolerance is usually commendable, but forced approval almost never is. The whole issue here is another example of some people not being satisfied with other people’s tolerance, but demanding their approval also, and using the strong arm of government to get it when it isn’t offered by choice.

    • crystal

      Great point.

  • Wanda

Go ahead and repeal the dadt law it still is an abomination to our heavenly father. Why couldn’t obama create a new military force called the gay parade force? They could all buck together. Why should any of our men or women be subjected to this unnatural affections for the same sex. Or if a man comes out an admits hes gay he should be forced to bunk with females and if a women admits she is a lesibian she should have to bunk with men.

    • Bruce D.

That is an interesting idea with switching barracks but it will never happen. Just calling themselves gay was a good public relations move. It removes from thought the idea that two men were butt humphing. Something most of us do not want to talk about or know about. Hense, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

  • Wanda

    • Karolyn

Give me a break, Wanda! Gays are not pariahs. They are people just like you and me; have feelings and are not all immoral. I sometimes think that people who abhor gayness so much do it because they see something of themselves in it and don’t want to go there. We are all God’s children; and he loves us all the same.

      • Jukebox

Where will you be when God decides that He has had enough of this abomination, just like happened in Sodom & Gommorah.

      • Karolyn

Read some of the various translations of Sodom and Gomorrah. The men who wanted to rape the angels were not gay, but were all the men of the city who wanted to overpower the strangers. Rape is an act of power, not sex. Also, Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed (supposedly) due to idolatry, which was a far worse abomination than anything else. Of course, the Bible could just be a book of mythology written to guide man.

      • Jukebox

If rape is an act of power, then we are being raped real good by the Democrats and the Obamacrats, because to them, power is the ultimate climax.

      • 45caliber

And you really believe that? Despite what it says?

      • Doc Sarvis

        Good points Karolyn.

      • Bob Wire

That accounting is found in old testament Jewish folk lore. Stories that was handed down by camp fire lights for centuries to teach.

And still today , it’s with us. There are many such stories and all rooted into an event that may or may not have happened exactly the way described. There is little doubt Sodom and Gomorrah was a “tough” neighborhood. As I remember off hand, the bible speaks of general “wickedness”.

I don’t remember the gender of the angles as being stated. They could have been men or women. I do remember Lot pleading with the townsmen to let the strangers be! Leave them alone, to take one of his daughters instead!

Now if that’s True! LOT was a sorry piece of $hit in his own right.

So ooo oh! I don’t like this story and being the buffet Christan I am, I don’t place a lot on it’s telling, elect to blow it off for what it is. An old Jewish story that keep the faithful in line with fear of a vengeful, jealous god. A god that demanded sacrifice and atonement.

      • B. Johnson

You think they’re in Heaven? Let’s all just go to Heaven for whatever. I’m sure we’re not on this earth for any particular reason.
        Right??

      • Karolyn

        45 – Why wouldn’t I believe that?

      • Karolyn

        B. Johnson – Our only reason for being here is to love and help one another. We sure have done a bang-up job of that huh?

      • 45caliber

        Karolyn:

You are right; we are all God’s children and he loves us just the same.

However, He also said that the majority of us will be sent to H3ll anyway. He gives us free choice in what we do. If we don’t follow the teachings of the Bible, we are headed there – even if He does love us. One of those teachings is to give up sin and not do it again. And the Bible plainly says that this is a sin in several places – both Old Testiment and New.

I’m sure He loves Satan for that matter. But it didn’t save Satan either, did it.

      • crystal

Accusing people of being homosexual because they disagree with you is a tired and boring argument, which is never backed up with any knowledge or fact. Get use to people disagreeing with you.

      • 45caliber

I think it is wishfull thinking by the gays.

      • James

Karolyn, Christians abhor gayness because God made it a capital offense. As for God treating everyone equally, Romans 9:13 reads: “As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.” (See Mal. 2:2-3.) Esau was Jacob’s twin brother.

    • crystal

Wanda, when I was in the military we had lesbians in our barracks. Several tried to bully other women, and one was especially a nuisance. People who’ve never served don’t get it. I remember a couple of showering incidents in bootcamp (in bootcamp you actually have to share a shower head with four other women) where a good a$$ kicking came behind a perverted lesbian act. That one a$$ kicking cleared up a multitude of problems.

    • Robert Smith

Wanda asks: “Why should any of our men or women be subjected to this unnatural affections for the same sex.”

Because your all powerful god made them that way.

Maybe he wants to test you to see just how loving you really are towards your fellow human beings. IMO you failed but then I’m not your god. But how do you know that? Have you ever actually seen your god?

      Rob

      • James

Robert, May be, but He also want ‘em dead.

      • Robert Smith

Awww James, there you go again. Telling folks your god wants gays dead. Is that your excuse when you actually kill some?

I can tell you it won’t work. The folks who killed OBGYNs for helping women are in jail.

        Rob

      • James

Robert, Prior to 2003, when the Supreme Court (Lawrence v. Texas) held that men have the right to have sex with other men, all States had considered such acts as criminal offenses, but none of them invoked the death penalty. If an individual were to enforce God’s law, now, it would be murder. So, now, there is nothing for homosexuals to worry about. When Christ returns that will change.

      • Denniso

You religious Repubs are always ranting about freedom and liberty, and then you want to restrict those freedoms you don’t approve of. You can’t have it both ways…

  • Bob Wire

I’m stuck with this issue. My bias is too strong and my neck burns red.

There’s things I just don’t want to see, hear and know.

I know that gays have been in the military from it’s very creating and have served the nation well in both war and peace.

I know that this is due to deviations of the normal, an ugly tricks of nature. I know that it’s not rare and has been with mankind and the whole animal kingdom since recorded history. I know it’s not contagious.

I don’t want to see homosexuality “encouraged” or celebrated.

But at the same time I don’t want to see them punished by a society that would deny them the same freedoms afforded non-gays or straights by virtue of perceived “gayness”

The Archie Bunker in me, has me so very stuck.

    • Bill

      Hey Bob,

You don’t want to see them punished by society? Take a look at this website(http://www.massresistance.org/) and see what price we are paying for allowing them same sex marriages! Then tell me you are still worried about their being punished.

    • James

Bob W., Leviticus 20:13 says “they shall surely be put to death, their blood shall be upon them,” but doesn’t explain why such a severe punishment. All biblical sins were made crimes in U.S. law, but no state law ever imposed the death penalty on homosexual acts. Now that these deviant acts are rights, I’m sure we’ll see why.

      • Robert Smith

How christian of you to invoke death for another human being. Kinda puts “right to life” in the dumper.

        Rob

      • James

Robert, Being a Christian means adhering to God’s Laws.

      • Denniso

No, being a Christian means following the teachings of Jesus. You want to live by the old testament then you can join the Jewish religion. The old testament is full of contradictions that have nothing at all to do w/ the words of Jesus.

      • James

Denniso, Read Matthew 5:17-19. Jesus kept that law, perfectly, and being sinless He could sacrifice His life for ours, but that didn’t end the law’s effect. Even John, the apostle Jesus loved, said sins that were capital offenses should not be forgiven (1 John 5:16).

      • Denniso

James, you can find many other things to live by in the Bible that you wouldn’t care for if you’re going to read it literally. It’s interesting that the literalists, like you apparently, pick and choose which parts of the old testament to believe strictly, and ignore those that they don’t care for. I’ve been through this sort of thing w/ fundamentalists many times before and it’s pointless because you aren’t consistent in your interpretation, yet you want to force others to live by those parts of the Bible you approve of.

    • Robert Smith

      Hi Bob,

You posted: “There’s things I just don’t want to see, hear and know.”

      Me too!

I don’t want to see, hear, or know anything from the hateful right wing skin―head christians. What can I do to get them to leave me alone?

They are so selfish. They want me to join them so their god thinks better of them so they have a better chance of getting into his heaven. It’s amazing what fear can come of such a hateful killing god.

      Rob

  • Oh No

Now admitted homosexuals won’t be able to get a quick discharge out of service after attaining government payed for training and education. Henceforth, they will have to be known as highly trained cowards and opportunists to get their free education. Kiss and Tell is not going to be an advantageous for everyone with exception of the American Taxpayer.

    • Jukebox

I would not call these people cowards, because contrary to popular belief, they are not “SISSIES”. Some of the meanest people I have observed are gay.

    • crystal

I’m glad you brought that point up. There have been many under DADT who received the military’s free training and when it was time to serve their four years or more, they claimed they were homosexual.

      • Doc Sarvis

        How many (documentation please)?

      • 45caliber

If there is even one, that is one too many.

      • Robert Smith

Right, 45, if you say so (ROFL)

The FACT is that bigots are far worse in an America of equality than a gay.

        Rob

  • James

The Senate has voted to repeal the DADT law. I think the vote was 65 to 33. Some senators were bragging about the vote being bi-partisan. Repealing DADT doesn’t mean gays must ‘tell,’ they can keep it a secret if they choose. Nor does it mean the Military Code must be revised, the armed services have the power to accept only those applicants they think would make the best armed force. States have a similar code for police and highway patrol men, if you’re not big enough or can’t read or write you can’t be a cop.
If a gay applicant to national forces doesn’t admit that, and it’s later discovered, he could be tried for perjury.

    • 45caliber

There are gay cops. Most serve well – because they keep their personal life seperate from their business life. But there are also those who don’t. I hear about them in the news every few months. This is one reason I’m certain that there will be a few gays in the miltary who will cause problems.

      • Robert Smith

Just as there will be red neck ultra right wing conservatives who just can keep their hate to themselves.

Go skin―heads, show yourselves and your ignorance so we know who not to stand in front of. YOU can’t be trusted not to hurt others ON YOUR OWN SIDE. You are the ones who should be tossed out of the military. Maybe even America because you just don’t seem to get the concept of freedom.

        Rob

    • B. Johnson

Police and highway patrolmen don’t necessarily have to shower & sleep together to my knowledge. If a homosexual is attracted to someone that he or she sees in the shower on a regular basis, I think this could lead to problems. Homosexuals “reproduce” by privately swaying others that “it’s OK” & no one has to know, or by molesting young children before they’ve had a chance to find their natural heterosexuallity. (I know I’ll get some heat on that one! lol.)
And hey, why not just allow men and women to sleep & shower together in the military? It’s the same argument.
I’m also curious as to why a behavior can be awarded civil right protection. Let’s face it, these people choose to put each others genitals in un-natural places and are rewarded with special government care. Homosexuallity is now protected as are race, religion & creed, yet it’s just an abhorrent behavior.
Just ask a homosexual…”are you happy?” Most are in a drunken stupor during their leisure time because they’re trying to escape the reality of self-hate. Have you ever seen a drag show or witnessed a gay pride parade?? You want our troops dealing with that crap?
They belong in design studios, hair salons & theatre because that’s what they’re cut out for. Not the military. (Butch dykes excluded, lol) Let the insults begin!

      • 45caliber

You may get some heat but you’re still right.

      • Karolyn

I guess you don’t know any gays. You should know what you’re talking about before opening your filthy mouth. One of my best friends is a conservative republican gay man. He is very masculine, not overtly gay, is not a pedophile and was in a monogamous relationship for 20 years until his partner died. I’ve known many more like him, as well as have had lesbian friends who were more true blue than any hetero women I’ve known. You speak of stereotypes. You don’t know crap!

      • Gurd

And what did his partner die of? Gays live 20 years less on average so they are trying to fix our Social Security and Medicare shortfalls. Thanks.

      • Robert Smith

From B. Johnson: ” or by molesting young children before they’ve had a chance to find their natural heterosexuallity. (I know I’ll get some heat on that one! lol.)”

Correct. You get heat for lying. Pedophelia is completely different from being gay. Just ask one of those rotton priests who abuse kids.

        Rob

      • James

BJ, I agree. When the U.S. Supreme Court, in Lawrence v. Texas (2003), held that homosexuals have a ‘right’ to violate Leviticus 20:13, they slapped God in the face. I’m sure, before this is over, we will learn why the Most High wanted them removed.

      • Robert Smith

From Janes: “Leviticus 20:13, they slapped God in the face”

Then you’re going to have to dump McDonalds and all the other establishments selling cheesburgers.

But sadly you don’t appear to gripe or even understand the meaning of Leviticus.

Oh well, it’s only an excuse to bully other Americans anyhow.

BTW, I don’t believe in your god or Leviticus. I’d punch ‘em as you suggest but he hasn’t been seen lately. Maybe 2,000 years lately…

        Rob

        Rob

      • James

Robert, Leviticus 20:13 simply means what it says: “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” What’s not to understand?

      • Denniso

Old testament garbage that agrees perfectly w/ the fanatic Muslim view. What a great side for you to be on.

      • James

Denniso, Concerning the Old Testament garbage, Jesus said: “think not that I am come to destroy the law…For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called he least in the kingdom of heaven: but whsoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

      • Denniso

James, verily I say onto you that the old testament is outdated and was 2000 yrs ago. Most of the ten commandments were around for thousands of yrs before the bible was ever dreamed of and were not a creation of your god or the Jews god.

      • James

Denniso, The commandments were certainly around before they were written about in the Oldj Testament, but that doesn’t change what Jesus said about them.

      • Denniso

No, it means they weren’t ordained or written by God. They developed over millenia from various groups and tribes and people who found the need to work together and restrict anti social behavior that was/is detrimental to the group. Rules for society evolved from a shared commitment to the group for it’s survival.

      • Robert Smith

Awwww B. Johnson there you go letting a prize wopper go or you are incredibly ignorant. You claim: “or by molesting young children before they’ve had a chance to find their natural heterosexuallity.”

        Absolutely false.

BTW, how do you explain all those priests who raped kids? Then the bishops, and maybe even the pope himself, played their own don’t tell game.

Further, kids don’t turn gay from rape.

        Rob

    • ofmilitaryservice

If they cant’ ask and you didn’t answer, how can you be tried for perjury?

      • James

Ofmil, I’m pretty sure the application for service will contain the question: Are you a homosexual? (Now that DADT has been repealed, they can now ask that.) If a homosexual applicant answers ‘No,’ and it’s later discovered he is homosexual, he could be prosecuted for perjury. Most applications requesting pertinent personal information are signed and attested to under the penalty of perjury. For example, under penalty of perjury, the application to vote asks: Have you ever been convicted of a felony?

      • Michael J.

        James,
        More than likely the application will contain multiple choice questions, for example it may read;
Place a check mark in the box beside the phrase or word that best describes your sexual orientation.

        Hetrosexual ( ) Fruitcake ( )

      • Robert Smith

Scott Brown is becoming more and more of a RINO!!!!! Maybe massacussetts picked another democrat in wolves clothing. Does this man have a clue what dadt is all about. The troops should be the only people voting on this bill. It shouldn’t have anything to do with the federal or state gov’t's!!!!!PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another argument that the feds want to control!!

    • Sue

I never liked Scott Brown . He actually said while he was running,he would vote on whatever side he believed was in line with ‘his’ morals. He was the best of the worst,Massacussetts had to offer,so Republicians elected him. Maybe they see this now and will come up with a better offer next time. Don’t hold your breath though. They have been Democrates there for a long ,long time. What a shame, they can not see their old party ,for what it really is…Socialist. Scott Brown is indeed,a wolf in sheeps clothing, swinging to the right only a few times to make his self look good.

      • Gurd

Let’s see. He was an underwear model, a nude model. How would he vote on DADT?

    • http://none Alex

Pay attention, Tim: the military members have spoken—a very clear majority have no problem having Gays along with them as they kill their way around the world—appx 70 per cent of the armed forces members (which parallels the sentiment of the American populace in general) say that this is not an issue.

Anyway, it is up to those dumb enough to join the military during a war about capital and position rather than “freedom” to obey orders–if they are ordered to serve alongside Gays than so be it.

      • skipfoss

You have been listening to to much of Obaba”s propaganda ,when those other that the government took the surveys to the GI’s and amore diverse group than dems they came up wth most of those in the military were about 72% against as with the public about 58% against so when you get actual straight figures you can see just how this half breed son of a white trash communist whore twist the truth just so he can pay back the progressives and queers back for buying him in

      • Karolyn

With statistics, it depends on who’s doing the poll, what their asking, and what there slant is. I had heard one poll results showing a majority of Americans were for repeal. On the show i listened to today, they said the majority of military were against…BUT, that was from those that mailed the survey in; so, in conclusion, you really can’t trust stats.

    • Robert Smith

From Tim: “The troops should be the only people voting on this bill.”

Really? Our Civilian Army here in America is controlled by THE PEOPLE.

How did you manage to miss that?

      Rob

      • jim reeves

While it is true that our Military is under civilian control (i.e Pres. Obama as Commander-in-Chief, Gates as Sec. of Defense, etc.) it is still the man (or woman, in some cases) in uniform that actually do the grunt work.
DADT was working just fine, even though I served many years prior to its inception.
Liberals and gay-advocy groups have been working through many avenues to gain their acceptance into the American mainstream, including the Govenrment school system by having gay spokespeople teaching classes to K-12 children about how wonderful it is to be gay.
I think it would also be wonderful if Obama put on a uniform, went through UCMC boot camp and was assigned to a recon unit in Afganistan for a year or so, especially with his now OK-gay buddies in the same fox-hole. Who knows… he may like it.
As for me, I would prefer that EVERYONE, gay or straight, keep their perferences to the bedroom where it belongs.

      • Doc Sarvis

In a well trained, disciplined, and professional unit of soldiers, sexual preference (stated or not) is not an issue.

      • crystal

        Yes it is.

      • Karolyn

THAT’S the key word – PROFESSIONAL.

    • crystal

      • newspooner

The Libertarians in Taxachusetts knew that Scott Brown was a 50%er who would get DC disease and end up voting correctly even less than 50% of the time. That’s why we put Joe Kennedy (the good Joe Kennedy, not the garbage bag druggie Joe Kennedy from the druggie family) on the Ballot, so that voters would have a good candidate to vote for. We did know that there was little chance of him winning because the prostitute press would ignore or minimalize him. But at least the voters had a good choice.

All I can say is remember Rome…….

    • Robert Smith

Rome lasted for over 800 years.

When it ended the christians took over and it was a bunch of “Dark Ages.”

      I remember Rome.

      Rob

      • crystal

Rome didn’t start out as a homosexual nation, it began with many small villages pulling themselves together collectively. Let’s get that straight to start off with. When Rome did become accepting of homosexuality, troubles for others began. Rome decided that the Jews of Israel weren’t worshipping them enough and they needed to get rid of their God and bow down to Rome. The Jews resisted on several occasions, but eventually could not hold onto their land (Israel) against the Roman Empire who then went on to throw the Jews out of Israel. Rome also had a serious problem with Christians and found sport in feeding Christians to the lions in the Coliseum regardless of whether they were an adult or a child. Rome’s homosexuals had the same problems with anyone who believed in God, just like many homosexuals in the United States have the same problems with God. History is just repeating itself.

The fall of the Roman Empire was mainly due to becoming too large to govern. On several sides of it’s borders they were being attacked. Rome had a really good military, but eventually the military turned on Rome’s government. This is what we call a mutiny. Rome had problems with the Visigoths who in turn had problems with the Huns. When the Huns pushed the Visigoths further into Roman territory, it produced more conflicts with the Romans.

You can read all about the Fall of the Roman Empire by Gibbon I and II.

      • 45caliber

But that means reading a really long book about history! You can’t expect these instant experts to do that!

      • eddie47d

Crystal; Since we have military personnel in almost every country in the world that would make us the new Roman Empire. With our expansionism and empire building that would be your comparison. We use to be that country that helped others (and we still do)but we abused that honor with all our false wars.

      • RedWing55

        eddie47d,

Actually Crystal got it almost 100% correct.

As for having military personnel deployed throughout the world, talk to the Congress about that. The military does what they are directed to by the President and Congress, they don’t invent this stuff on their own, nor often are they allowed to prosecute wars like they want.

As for the issue of DADT, it worked. In most units, people knew who were the gays and lesbians and as long as they didn’t bring it to the workplace, nobody cared. Changes will have to be made to the UCMJ to allow their “conduct”. Glad to be retired after 28 years, so I don’t have to deal with this nonsense.

And for the guy who claimed 65-70% of the nation wanted this change, I can tell you that the majority of those that I knew in uniform, didn’t care for the change and preferred the DADT policy. Hopefully this won’t cost us a large number of people leaving service so that we can accomodate a group that is no more than 5% of those that serve.

      • crystal

Eddie, I just shortened Gibbon (really short). You’d have to read it for yourself.

I can see the headlines now: “Homophobia Ends War!” Hey, I’ll take it.

    • 45caliber

If it works why fight it??

  • http://none Alex

The American people and its military personnel support, by overwhelming (65-70 per cent) majority, repeal of this unconstitutional measure.

Why anyone would want to be a mercenary for a nation that sends its young to die and kill in a never-ending War of Capital is beyond me, but that just illustrates the fact that Gays are not that much different than the rest of us—we are all capable of becoming so clearly lost that we might allow others to tell us who to kill, even when they are women and children.

Regardless, the military of the White Estates of Amerika has lost a number of highly-trained officers due to the intolerance of the mostly Christian Fright Wing.

    • Jukebox

I believe we should have all gay divisions, and then send them into the fundamentalist Muslim warzones. This way, you take care of two problems at once.

  • Robin from Arcadia, IN

If DADT was working, why change it? Does passing this bill make a difference?

    • Doc Sarvis

In most units it is already known who is homosexual and who is heterosexual, just as it has always been. Repealing DADT is the right thing to do because then that policy can no longer be used against a homosexual person/held over them to gain some “advantage”.

      • Bruce D.

DADT was a way to ensure homosexuals remain discreet. There is nothing worst than being in the shower room at a health spa with those who are not. That being said homosexuality has become more and more acceptable in society as a whole. Hollywood, those in the Arts, and liberal democrats created a strong push in their favor. I believe it was only a matter of time before it was repealed as it was presented as a human rights issue effectively.

      • Robert Smith

Awww Bruuce, you talk like a tough guy. What are you afraid of? If a woman saw you wouldn’t you be proud?

Scared to be seen in a shower. What a lame excuse to deny honesty and respect for another human being.

        Rob

      • Bruce D.

Rob says: “Scared to be seen in a shower. What a lame excuse to deny honesty and respect for another human being.”
Okay if you are looking for honesty it is difficult for me to respect a man who sticks his dic_ up another mans a_ _.

      • crystal

People don’t want to be bothered by you Rob. Your lack of respect for heterosexuals comes out in every comment you make. Your type is the reason why these problems exist in the first place.

      • Robert Smith

I’m not gay. I simply respect the rights of ALL Americans.

I’ll bet you still claim to be christian.

        Rob

      • Bruce D.

Robert Smith says: “I’m not gay. I simply respect the rights of ALL Americans. I’ll bet you still claim to be Christian.”

The Constitution says Congress shall pass ‘NO’ law with respect to religion. That we have freedom ‘OF’ religion. Do you respect the right of Christians to pray in public schools and on government property. Are you someone who respects freedom ‘OF’ religion or are you someone who does not respect other peoples rights and wants freedom ‘FROM’ religion. How about the right to freely associate and only rent an apartment to those you want to associate with as a landlord. It is not likely you respect the rights of all Americans as most on the left do not. Just the ones you are in agreement with such as homosexuality.

      • Robert Smith

Hey Bruce, you can quit lying about what I think anytime.

You ask: “Do you respect the right of Christians to pray in public schools and on government property.”

Certainly. You can prey anywhere you want as long as it doesn’t bother anyone else. Then you impact upon THEIR rights. I’m quite sure that your god can hear your thoughts if he is as all mighty as you claim.

“Are you someone who respects freedom ‘OF’ religion or are you someone who does not respect other peoples rights and wants freedom ‘FROM’ religion.”

I don’t want anyone imposing their religion upon another, even if your god is screaming for you to punch your ticket into his heaven by recruiting me. IOW, leave me alone and I won’t bug you.

“How about the right to freely associate and only rent an apartment to those you want to associate with as a landlord.”

If you are renting to the public you must rent to whoever is qualified in a non-discriminary way. If you are renting to a particular religious, military, or society as a group that would be permitted. So, there are such things as retirement communities, etc. Only students from a particular school can rent a particular dorm.

But, if you are just a bigoted hateful land lord you are out of luck in America.

        Rob

      • Denniso

Once again we find supposed Christians breaking two of their own rules…judge not lest you be judged. Let he who is w/o sin cast the first stone. Now why,if Christians claim to follow and love Jesus so much and so literally,do they openly and shamelessly violate what their ‘savior’ preached? I wonder if Bruce knows that everything that gays may do in their sex life is done by many heterosexual couples? Everything..

      • Granny Mae

As for DADT I feel that there should equal rights for all. If Gays have the right to be open in the military then I feel that the Christian Pastors and Priests should be able to hold their services and use the name of the Lord when doing so and that is not the case lately ! If a Chaplin can’t pray for the soldiers, before they go into battle, in the name of Jesus, then what is this world coming too? Who ever heard of a Chaplin not being able to invoke the name of God? Freedom for gays should also mean freedom for Chaplins !
        I’m just saying !

      • Granny Mae

        Denniso,

The difference between gay sex and straight sex is the partner with whom you are having sex ! So they are not doing the same thing ! Read your bible again ! Old testament please !

      • Denniso

There are many things in the old testament that no one today lives by,you as well. But the most fundamental thing is that the bible is not,nor ever was,the law of the land. If you want to belong to a church that preaches against gays,so be it. That’s up to you. But it is not up to christians or muslims to tell our country how to live. That is up to oue laws and the constitution, which if you notice, has nothing to say on the issue of gays. Keep your bible in your home or church. Don’t you wonder how it is that you are on the same side as fundamentalist muslims on the issue of gays? Think about it.

      • 45caliber

Again you are wrong. In most units the gays say nothing and no one knows – or cares. So you are simply guessing. The straights don’t have some system that identify them to other straights as gays do – and could care less as long as the others leave him alone. Just avoid talking about something you know nothing about. Then people won’t be as apt to laugh at you or ignore what you are saying.

      • Robert Smith

Hey 45 check this out! Here’s what you said: “Just avoid talking about something you know nothing about. Then people won’t be as apt to laugh at you or ignore what you are saying.”

With all the hate you emit it’s clear you know nothing about the love of christanity is supposed to offer. IOW, you are using your corrupted interpritation of the bible to beat other people over the head.

Maybe people won’t be as apt to laugh at you or ignor you in what you are saying. Oops, I forgot there are other hateful christians out there you might inspire.

        Rob

    • eddie47d

It was not working and was discriminatory and abused.

Worked for “whom” is the question. yea, it works for me.

There are stories coming forward that suggest that it hasn’t worked very well for some. It has be both used and abused as a political chip for some advantage.

I found the military experience to be unique and there’s nothing quite like it.

You hear it often, “In this MAN’s Army” ~ what does that really mean?

I found the military experience varied with the CO & First Shirt in charged and you gave these two men what they “want” !

This “demand” changed from each outfit you were assigned. What they demanded and what you could get away with, varied greatly. What might work in one outfit, won’t fly in another

There a huge difference between combat duty and stateside duty.

The CO/ 1st Sargent is kinda like a sheriff, an overlord unto it’s own. What goes on in his town might not be acceptable in others. If he’s intolerant to gays, ~ their life could be hell no matter the rules.

As a soldier, you are at their mercy, it’s their world until you get into a theater of combat anyway. Once everyone is armed and potentially dangerous the dynamics of leadership does change and more personal latitude is “taken” while notions of honor, valor and loyalty become something very real and no longer seen in the abstract, yet not a word spoken of. Life becomes simply a “doing thang”

The “thinking process” is over ~ You just live it and do what you were trained to do with whatever is at your disposal. ~ Gay becomes a non issue.

        Amen!

I believe anyone as uneducated as Skipfoss and Stan Smith should have never been allowed to serve in the military. They need to return to school and at least learn to spell and write gramatically correct sentences. Then they need to take a logics and ethics class, because they are two bad bigoted dangerous dudes that should be put on the front lines for slaughtering the English language. My own solace about these two twisted minds is a line from Shakespeare, “Words without thoughts never to heaven go.” I have always felt if the U.S. government wants to discriminate against gays and lesbians, then the United States of America does not deserve their blood. If DADT was not repealed, I would have advocated that all lesbian and gay troops should come out of the closet to their superior officers and should go home and contribute to their gay communities. The real truth is that even with the repeal, there will be many lesbian and gay soldiers that will remain in the closet because they are still fearful in a homophobic country as the USA. After reading what skipfoss and Stan Smith wrote, any one would be fearful for their lives.

You shouldn’t call anyone uneducated unless your looking in the mirror. Your just another civilian who lacks knowledge of military life.

      • Robert Smith

Tell us about your military experience Chrystal.

        Robert Smith,
Tell us about your pagan idolotry and ritual sacrifice.

      • Robert Smith

Hmmmmm, it’s time to remind folks about that transsubstancian stuff and the christians. Eat any good saviors lately with your ritualistic canabalism?

      • Denniso

We have to give the literalists a break, since they stole the eating of their God from much earlier religions. It does sound rather gross when one thinks about what it is supposed to be…dinner anyone?

      • Howard

        Cherie:

Based on you opinion, I assume that you are not a Christian since the Holy Scriptures forbid gay relationships. Such relationships are perverted and hopefully you will obey God’s commandments. As the scriptures state: All are appointed to die, and then the judgement.
Hopefully, you will repent of your ways and not face Christ at the White Throne judgement seat for non-belivers. I pray that you open your heart’s door to Jesus and accepted His grace and salvation.

I wonder what you think happened to all the billions of people who were born and died long before Jesus or the Bible cmae along? For the vast majority of the million or so years of human existence there were other gods or no god at all. Even now,the majority of humans don’t believe in the Christian god and you are in a minority still.

      • Granny Mae

        Denniso,

All the people that passed before Jesus are said to have been in a sleep and when He died and decended to the dead He set them free and they were given the choice to believe or not. His comming was fortold by the prophets in the old testament. As for not knowing the mind of God, well sometimes we can’t and sometimes we can ! God has told us what to expect and what he wants from us! There is no guess work involved ! Believe or not it is up to you ! Everyone makes their own choice !

      • Denniso

The billions of people who dies before Jesus showed up ‘are said to have been in a sleep’? Who said? There’s nothing about that in the Bible,so I imagine it’s some self appointed and anointed one who has said such a silly thing.

The mind of God? How do you know when it is that you know His mind and when it is you don’t? I suppose you know his mind when things go the way you want or expect, and then you don’t when things are messy or counter to what you wnat. It sounds a little like people who think they know how to win at the casino.

      • Granny Mae

        Denniso

I have come to realize that things rarely ever go the way I think they should so I don’t ever use that as a way to know the mind of God ! If you really know the bible as you think you do then you will know when you can know the mind of God ! Keep denying the word of God and using it as an excuse to do as you want. It is only you that will answer to that !

      • Denniso

Sorry Granny, but if there is any such thing as an omnipotent god capable of all it would be,like creating the universe and all life, then no puny humans like us could ever possibly know the ‘mind’ of this god. It’s a little more than arrogant for any human to imagine they could possibly speak for a god w/ that kind of power and abilities. It’s also a huge stretch to think that this all powerful god would have any concern for us little creatures on this little solitary planet in one single galaxy. Does he/it care about all the other life that is sure to exist in the rest of the cosmos?
People can believe all they want, but when they try to justify it logically or w/ reason is when it falls apart. Just believe if you want and quit trying to get other people to take on an illogical and fanciful faith.

      • Robert Smith

Hey skippy¡ You can get AIDS from a drug user, a hooker, or your sister.

BTW, I put 4 years in the USN and didn’t care if someone was gay.

AND! I’ll bet that YOUR experience in the military won’t be challenged but simply because I don’t care there will be doubts cast upon my service. Let’s see how your greek chorus jumps in an attempt to raise doubts.

        Rob

So what. The UCMJ applies equally to all applicable personnel. Straight guys violate the UCMJ by driving drunk. What’s your point?

      • http://gunner689 gunner689

The point is; when caught violating the UCMJ they are courtmarshaled for it. I don’t remember drunk driving being in there but it has been a few years.

      • libertytrain

drunk driving is very definitely an issue these days -
