Add Whey Protein To Your Drink For Better Heart Health
Individuals who are trying to lower their blood pressure and improve their heart health may be able to do so without having to resort to medications that often cause side effects. That is because a recent study found that supplementing daily beverages with whey protein can help individuals achieve this desirable effect.
The study, which was published in International Dairy Journal, looked at heart health outcomes in 71 people aged between 18 and 26. However, the researchers, led by nutritional biochemist Susan Fluegel, said they believe the results can be generalized to older people, as well.
Fluegel stressed the cost-effective nature of whey protein supplementation vis-à-vis the price of heart medications. "Not only that, whey protein has not been shown to be harmful in any way," she added.
Scientists believe that blood pressure reductions such as those found by Fluegel's team may cut fatal strokes rates by as much as 40 percent.
Currently, cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of Americans, according to the American Heart Association.
