Boehner: Americans Want Obama To Change Course
November 11, 2010 by Personal Liberty News Desk
Representative John Boehner (R-Ohio) is expected to succeed Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as the Speaker of the House when Republicans gain majority in January.
Following a resounding victory for GOP candidates in the midterm elections, which represents the largest turnover in Congress since 1948, Boehner was so overcome with emotion that he shed tears during his victory speech. The following day, he and Eric Cantor (R-Va.), who is expected to be the next House majority leader, addressed the media and spoke about a new direction in Washington.
“The American people spoke and I think it’s pretty clear the Obama-Pelosi agenda is being rejected by the American people,” said Boehner, quoted by Politico.com. “They want the President to change course and I think change course we will.”
Boehner said that the biggest issues that need to be addressed are government spending, healthcare and job creation. He added that "groundwork" needs to be laid before Congress can begin repealing President Barack Obama's healthcare legislation.
According to media reports, Obama has announced that he will meet with top Congressional leaders on Nov. 18. The President said that the session will allow officials from both parties to develop a better working relationship.
Along with Boehner, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Nancy Pelosi are expected to meet with Obama later this month.
