Tea Party movement makes strides with elections of Paul, Rubio and JohnsonThe Tea Party scored several major victories on Nov. 2, including the election of Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Mark Rubio (R-Fla.) and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) in Senate races.

In other key wins for the conservative/libertarian movement, Republican Nikki Haley was elected governor of South Carolina and more than a dozen Tea Party-backed candidates won seats in the House of Representatives.

"We've come to take our government back," said Paul, the son of U.S. Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas), quoted by The Associated Press.

JennyBeth Martin, a co-founder of the organization Tea Party Patriots, said that activists will host a meeting for newly elected lawmakers on Nov. 14 in order to remind them of the core values that led to the movement's emergence. She told the news provider that her group will make sure Tea Party-backed candidates do not break the promises they made on the campaign trail.

In a television interview on NBC's Today Show, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he watched Paul's victory speech and he has "no problem with him at all." Reid, who earned his re-election by defeating Tea Party candidate Sharron Angle, said he's ready to work with Republicans in Congress.

"Legislation's the art of compromise," he said during the interview.

More smoke but it would be nice if they would start the cutbacks on earmarks.Then you went on to say he made a ban on wasteful spending in Washington,When did he do that?I didn’t even know if he had ever been to Washington.

    In my opinion Federal government and local government salaries must be reduced to a pittance. No better way to shrink the statist blob. In addition, ALL foreign aid must stop. My original vision of a new statesmanship in DC was first take apart the Federal Reserve Bank and then withdraw from the UN.

      Pete, that’s not a bad idea to reduce payments to government workers. That is what has been happening to the rest or our work force for the last 30 years. We should also pull in our foreign aid and go back to a time like before World War I. These were much simpler times.

    The tea party started out as a good movement, then was taken over by the same special interests that control our govt. It was a wave that washed the GOP back and it will be a wave that wipes them out. If the tea party is for electing people that runs on “people don’t care about details”, then they won’t last long.

    If the tea party accomplishes ANYTHING it will be to shift tax payments from the fed to the state. The middle class worker will see more state taxes, prop taxes (as the debt committee cuts deductions)and lastly higher fees. Thanks tea party.

      I’m not sure you get it. The Tea Party philosophically most closely identifies with the fundamental precepts of the Republican party, which lost its way under the Bush administration and even before that, but the Tea Party movement is driven to provide the electorate with a conservative and realistic option to the status quo. As for shifting taxes to the States; any money the federal government gives to the States has strings attached, moreover its doled out more based on how much power that State has by virtue of their representatives seniority. Shifting the power to the individual State provides for more local control. The Federal government has demonstrated their incompetence for all to see. The Tea Party is made up of people who largely get it. It might get infiltrated by some with nefarious intent but it will only tend to grow.

    The Dems moved to the far left in the mid 60′s when they discovered they could buy votes from the minority groups with government money. The GOP shifted to the left on the bell curve to pick up the middle class voters who didn’t like what the Dems were doing. As a result, the GOP has shifted away from the conservatives who like smaller government and less “Give Away” programs used primarily to buy votes.

    Some conservatives have shifted right to join the Libertarians since the GOP is no longer making any real attempt to represent them. Others vote GOP in elections simply because they don’t want the Dems to get more power.

    If the GOP doesn’t realize what is happening and start moving back to the right the Tea Party will take most of their present base away from them. The Tea Party has come to represent those between the GOP position and the Libertarian position. If the GOP doesn’t hurry, it will be left out in the cold.

    Rand Paul changes his mind already and he is not even in office.Yesterday he was quoted as saying he will get as much pork spending money as he can for Kentucky saying, that is just the way it is in Washington.So there goes the last American hero.

      Rand Paul said he will fight for Kentucky’s share of earmarks and federal pork, as long as it’s doled out transparently at the committee level and not parachuted in in the dead of night.

      Rand Paul had made a ban on “WASTEFUL” earmark spending in Washington D.C. one of the key points of his campaign.

      Just thought I’d clarify your comment a little more. Paul’s comment is a night and day difference from the Louisisana Purchase or the Cornhusker Kickbak and all the backroom dealings that have been taking place with the current bunch of thieves…ya think?

        First thing they need to do is no more bail outs for CA or NY, force them to cut the unions loose, even it it cost cutting loose those million dollars schools….the unions spent millions if not billions on elections…think of how that money could have been spent!
        They also need to defund the healthcare if can’t repeal. I do like the idea of cuts across the board in congress not to mention slicing it down!

    Former ACORN Boss Takes Plea Deal for 2008 Misconduct in Nevada

    Former ACORN supervisor Amy Busefink has opted to plead guilty to a pair of gross misdemeanors rather than face 13 felony counts for her role in paying people to register voters. Busefink will be sentenced on January 10. Prosecutors said Monday they will not seek a prison term, but the judge may order one if he sees fit.

    Busefink, a Las Vegas field operative who ran an illegal voter registration program in 2008, paid a $5 bonus to canvassers who registered 21 or more voters in a day. In addition, ACORN terminated people who failed to make a quota.

    Chief Deputy Attorney General Conrad Hafen said Busefink will probably have to pay a fine and do 100 hours of community service.

    ACORN still faces a November 29 trial on 13 counts of compensation for registration of voters, the same charges Busefink and another employee faced. While ACORN no longer exists and is in bankruptcy, the organization faces fines up to $65,000

Edduh, it is true that he wasn’t running in 2008, but what does the 2008 election have to do with the 2010 election? The libs and Obama bin Laden made all these promises about change and haven’t kept them or have changed this country’s direction to the wrong way. You have to admit that what has happened with Obama bin Laden over the last 2 years, the TEA PARTY, and the marxist policies have affected the outcome of this past election. The people have gotten fed up with the way things were going and brought some real “change” to Washington. Now, we’re just waiting till 2012 to vote the rest of them out. Even the dems say that Obama bin Laden is a 1 term president, according to the DNC. Keep up the good fight, fellow patriots! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

Unfortunately extremists groups have also been sending recruiters to Tea Party meetings and pushing their views. Paul Rand could be a courageous leader and keep the Party on course or fold like a cheap suit. When it comes to Harry Reid,unless there is absolute proof of his being involved in wrong doings then all this talk about fraud is nothing more than sour grapes or political maneuvering.

      I was a Government worker for 30+ years. I started as a Co-op Student at GS-3 (There is no way that a GS-3 could support a family let alone attend college to better myself.) I graduated with a degree in Electronic Engineering. During the mid-60s, there was a national glut of engineers; I ended up back as a government worker just to have a job. During my career, I worked my way up to GS-13. the GS rates only go to the 15 level. My salary was less that half of what you claim is the average for government workers. Above the GS classification is the Executive Level. The Executive level could average $150K. The level you claim for the average of all government workers. Check your fact before you pick a number out of the air.

        Perhaps, while you were on the Gvt payroll, wages were as you claim, now Gvt wages are in the stratosphere. The average Gvt worker, factoring in health care, pensions and wages is just about double to private wages, pensions and healthcare. This has been published many times over……..just google it.

    The Tea Party/Republican candidates came to power attacking our deficit. They are now going to dramatically increase the deficit by voting to raise the debt ceiling to over 14 trillion. They are going to attempt to repeal the health reform law and, if successful, add over 100 billion to the deficit. They will also vote to reduce taxes on the super rich which will add another 700 million to the ballooning deficit. All this will be accomplished, mind you, by borrowing more money from China. And, the poetic irony is that all this will be done while receiving a hefty salary from the American citizens whose interests they are hurting.

    What I find interesting, pathetic really, is that during his campaign Paul talked about keeping true to our values and principles and standing up for what is right. He recently announced that he will vote against raising the debt ceiling AS LONG AS HE KNOWS IT’S GOING TO PASS. Sounds like a real politician to me.

    It’s much easier to criticize and to complain and not have any responsibility for addressing and solving problems. These newly elected officials, and most of the people who write on this site, will soon learn that it is far more difficult, and complex, to take responsibility and to govern.

      look at you pay check deductions if you recieve one. Mine says I pay taxes for SS and Med. It may need changes, the main one being govt to keep their hands off.

    Typical. Paul now says he WILL vote for earmarks/pork. He puts on the Tea Party hat to get elected and then tosses it aside once he is elected. He didn’t even wait to get sworn in.

      Let’s be more specific Doc. Rand Paul has made a ban on WASTEFUL earmark spending in Washington D.C. one of the key points of his campaign. He has supported Sen. Jim DeMint’s vocal support for an earmark ban and he supports news that House Democrats are even coming around on the idea of a partial ban.

      Seems to me that ONCE the “earmarks and pork” are banned then NO ONE will recieve them, including Kentucky, unless of course there are more backroom deals…Paul hasn’t turned on anybody but the left controlled MSM will do what they can to “generalize” Paul’s comments and make them seem like something they’re not.

        100% agree with you, fellow patriot! Our governemnt does need to reel in its spending habits and if banning earmarks is an effective way to help solve the problem, then go for it. Let’s see what happens starting January next year when they take office. I know there will be a fight between Obama bin Laden, cowards, and traitors on one side and patriots, tea party, and the people on the other side. Though the fight will be long and hard, we will win in the end. Keep up the good fight, fellow patriot! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

    I’m happy to see the victories that were achieved by the Tea Party movement, however I am cautiously optimistic. There was much talk about jobs during the campaign but nothing about rescinding the free trade agreements, the main cause on joblessness. The big sucking sound ala Ross Parot has been heard loud and clear. The field of dreams has become the nightmare that is upon us. This should be a major test.

      Well Dan, for the time being Reid and the Democrats are still in charge, so it’s compromise, obstruct or sit it out. The Republicans won their seats, in part due to their ability to stop legislation from proceeding and then telling America that the Democrat lead congress got nothing done. I don’t know that that strategy will work so well for the next two years.

        When the Dems say compromise they mean “Do things our way or else sit down and shut up!” I hope the Republicans DO NOT compromise with the Obama regime or his Nazi allies. However, they have shown themselves to be nothing but a bunch of wimps and cowards. As for Rand Paul, I’m not so sure his win was a victory for conservatives. He campaigned against earmarks but he has now said that SOME earmarks are okay. He appears to be just another lying scumbag politician. You just can’t trust either party.

        Here is what Rand Paul said in an interveiw with Wolf Blitzer:

        I won’t use earmarks as a senator,” Paul told Blitzer. As he had on the campaign trail, Paul said earmarking “shows some of the abuse of Washington” and promised he won’t be among the Senators who participate in the process. But that doesn’t mean he won’t try to get money for Kentucky through the open appropriations process.

        Bringing home the bacon is the job of all Senators as long as it is done openly and subjected to a vote. One would expect that any appropriations put up for a vote by Mr. Paul will keep in mind the present state of the economy.

      We need a third party…or is it a fourth party…since Independants think they are the third party…We need a Constitutional party, if the TEA party is willing to fulfill that roll, GREAT!!! But they need to be sure and weed out RINO’s!!

        No…Parties are the problem. They’re supposed to be elected into office to act on behalhf of :we the people”.Instead their only concerns are for their parties.It should be mandatory to have no affiliation to any parties and if it’s found out they do, they should automaticly be kicked out of office and fined and tried for treason.
