You have to keep the government out of religion if you want freedom of religion. They can’t get involved. But there is no reason to keep religion out of politics. Someone with a set of morales is going to be a lot more careful of what he does than a person that has none at all. And morales comes from a religious upbringing.

But our government is getting involved when it starts allowing a small religion (atheism) to start dictating to everyone else as to what is acceptable in religion and what isn’t. The government is also getting involved when they start dictating about what the religions can preach about sins and start meddling in the religious ceremony called marriage.

Karolyn, for being an American and one that says she believes in God (or maybe not) you really don’t know our Constitution. Separation of church and state is just a myth. Thomas Jefferson was not a Christian.

Bzzzz wrong again Karolyn. Thomas Jefferson did believe in God and Jesus and was a Christian. The left will tell you he is a deist, but was he? If this is true, then why did he hold religious services every Sunday for both his terms in the White House? Also, when he signed the Enabling Acts in 1803, it enforced Christianity. How? The Enabling Acts made it possible for territories in the Northwest Ordinance to become new state in the union, but the states in question had to follow the guidelines of the Northwest Ordinance in order to do this. Remember what it says in The Northwest Ordinance of 1789:

“Religion, morality, and knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall be forever encouraged.”

This was written by George Washington. This meant having classes on religion, having school prayer, etc, but Jefferson still signed the Enabling Acts into law, why? If Jefferson was a deist or not a Christian, why would he sign such an act into law? An act that supported religion and pray in our schools, though he didn’t believe in organized religion or God? Please Karolyn, I have a master’s degree in history, so this little stab at our Christian founding fathers was easily dismissed. Of course I have to consider the source of the info, now don’t I? The Tea Party/Republican candidates came to power attacking our deficit. They are now going to dramatically increase the deficit by voting to raise the debt ceiling to over 14 trillion. They are going to attempt to repeal the health reform law and, if successful, add over 100 billion to the deficit. They will also vote to reduce taxes on the super rich which will add another 700 million to the ballooning deficit. All this will be accomplished, mind you, by borrowing more money from China. And, the poetic irony is that all this will be done while receiving a hefty salary from the American citizens whose interests they are hurting.

What I find interesting, pathetic really, is that during his campaign Paul talked about keeping true to our values and principles and standing up for what is right. He recently announced that he will vote against raising the debt ceiling AS LONG AS HE KNOWS IT’S GOING TO PASS. Sounds like a real politician to me.

It’s much easier to criticize and to complain and not have any responsibility for addressing and solving problems. These newly elected officials, and most of the people who write on this site, will soon learn that it is far more difficult, and complex, to take responsibility and to govern.

President Obama has many more drone kills of terrorist leaders. 2. President Obama, through civilian courts, has many more convictions of terrorists.

I saw action in Iraq Dec 1990 – April 1991, Iraq March 2003 – April 2004 (awarded silver star, bronze star, and 2 purple hearts) Feb 2005 – May 2005. I also went to Afghanistan Dec 2001 – Jan 2003. I hope this answers your question. I’ve also been stationed in Europe, Korea, Japan, Philippines, and many other places. I hope that this is enough for you. A majority of the American people are against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. They want DADT repealed and so does the Secretary of Defense, our military establishment, and the President. This discriminatory policy is hurting the military readiness of our country. You are correct. When Jesus said, “Your sins are forgiven,” he also added, “Go and sin no more.”

You can’t be forgiven sins if you deliberately set out to do things you KNOW are sins since God had identified many of them. For instance, Jesus can forgive the sins of a murderer but He doesn’t expect that sinner to then go and kill again without committing another sin. Yet many now seem to feel that once saved, always saved regardless of what they do. A true Christian, who has received Jesus into their lives, tries to follow His example of not sinning, even though we know we will fail sooner or later. But we don’t set out to deliberately sin, believing that Jesus will HAVE to forgive that too.

Man can’t decide what is sin and what is not sin. God does – and God does not change. As the Bible says, “He is the same, yesterday, today, and forever.” The problem is that many of today’s people believe that God did not create man and the laws; they believe man created God and the laws and can therefore change the laws at will. WRONG!

Very well put…what a lot of people also don’t get is that God is a jealous God…and that Jesus got angry without sinning before. But we as humans sin daily…rather it be our thoughts, our actions or what not, but it is up to us to call upon HIM for strength! And, Teresa, I do know the basic teachings of the Bible, having been raised as a Christian and practiced as such up until 5 years ago. I have delved deeper into the Bible. Currently, I am reading “Misquoting Jesus” by a biblical scholar who started out as an evangelical christian young man and changed his beliefs the more he studied. Very interesting reading, but I’m sure you wouldn’t be interested in what someone else has to say because they’re guided by the devil. That’s how I used to feel. I lived in fear; and I no longer live in fear.

No Karolyn what I do believe is this…I believe the bible Word for Word, for God tells us to…I do not believe what others tell me for that is “their” interpretation. I believe there will be false prophets, false religions, false idols, false doctrines…and I believe that you want to associate yourself with others to strenghten yourself and your values…I think that is why churches themself and christians get bad names because they associate the person with the church they attend…I may attend a church but is not the church nor the preacher I am dedicated to…it is Jesus…I attend to help strengthen my faith…but if I feel a pull from the church I disassociate myself from it, I do not need someone to help me communicate w/Jesus. It is your personal responsibility to study and learn the bible and educate yourself from the bible, not someone elses then you will never learn, you will only get their interpretation.

Teresa – Much of the Bible is very hard to understand and I look to those more knowledgeable to assist with the understanding. It is not so cut-and-dried, as I used to believe.

Rolf you must be a moron! If you read it coorectly it says in Mark chapter 10 verses 11-12:

11. And he sayeth unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
12. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

We also know that the Bible does allow for divorce in the case of sexual sin. The verses above means that if the husband or wife divorces their spouse just to marry someone else (Not because of sexual sin), them they are committing adultery. Thes days people may divorce for the silliest of reasons, but it is still adultery in God’s eyes.

Mark chapter 12 verses 18-27, you have taken way far out of context, as my wife said. The Sadducees were testing Jesus with a hypothetical situation. The woman herself didn’t really exist, as they were tempting him to answer about the resurrection, in which the Sadducees did not believe in. What does Jesus say to them?

24. Do yea not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, nor the power of God?
25. For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
26. And as touching the dead, that they rise; have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Issac, and the God of Jacob?
27. He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

Ergo, she would not be anyone’s wife in heaven.

How do you know there was a George Washington? How do you know there were slaves? How do you know Benjamin Franklin wrote in Europe? Were you watching while evolution of the species actually happened, so you can attest Darwin wrote it completely and correctly?

My point being there are lots of things you believe but cannot prove.

Touching one other area, I have read many translations of the Bible, and prefer one by a George Lamsa, a Christian Arab, who studied ancient languages and translated very old manuscripts, and clarified some of the mistranslations in small errors of the modern texts from Latin and Greek. And confirmed that the basic texts of the Bible from these other sources agree with most of our modern texts, in all important areas.

I think that you need to be very careful of what you accuse others. When you point a finger at them, you are pointing three back at yourself, assuming you point normally!

I will say that those who accuse President Obama of Biblical Christianity seem to be on very shaky ground.

Why do you keep pushing rights for a persons life style choices, homosexuality is a choice that 65% of US citizens disapprove of. Tighter living quartes onboard subs, but when you put 150 sailors in one berthing, living and sleeping three feet away from each other there has to be some form of trust. A known homosexual will cause distrust and or disrupt the good order and discipline within that unit. So, should DADT be repealed, the short answer here is NO, 75% of the military today will tell you to keep it the way it is, don’t change a thing. It doesn’t weaken the military. There have always been gay people in the military. There are still gay people in the military. Gay does not equate to weak. If that’s what you believe, educate yourself on the reality. What a person does with there genitals in the privacy of their own home, gay or straight, has nothing to do with you. Focus on your own life.

What a person does in the privacy of THEIR OWN HOME is something I don’t care about. But those in the military DO NOT HAVE their own home with them. It is safe with Mommy and Daddy. That is why the military does not allow sex of any kind. If a soldier wants sex, he darn well better wait until he/she is home or at least on pass at a hotel. Otherwise they get kicked out.

There are people in the military who dislike being around gays. I never was – but I really dislike being hit on by anyone. Until you realize that, you cannot say that having known gays in the military is acceptable. It just doesn’t work very well. And the military leaders know it. In civilian life, a known gay can go home at the end of the day; in the military, there is no “end of the day”. Your day is 24/7. It never ends. It is the same for heteros, so that’s why the military tries to keep men and women seperate as much as possible. It is sex – not gay sex or straight sex – that is the problem. DADT simply makes it simpler for the military to correct a problem before it gets out of hand.

I do not know if you have ever served in the military, but I have for 24 years. I have served with military from other countries and yes I have served with gays from those militarys and ours. The difference is that they were professional military members who just happened to be gay unlike gays in this country who are gays first and anything else second. This did not become an issue because they didn’t let it become an issue. If gays from this country kept this issue where it belongs it would not be an issue here either, but I don’t think they are capable of that. I do not want them to serve openly in our military because they seem not to be able to be professional first. Their conduct is not compatible with good order and discipline that is required of the military.

Forcing these issues on the military carries the same purpose it does everywhere else: to create distrust, division and uncertainty. It breaks down cohesiveness and unity in power.

I remember when, in the military, men were men and women were women. They knew who they were and they knew what they were there to do. They knew they could trust each other with their lives, that they were all on the same page.

Part of the 9/1 commissions finding involve our lack of ability to translate the large volumes of information we intercept. This is due to a lack of trained personnel, not effort. They are depended upon in combat to put their lives on the line in an effort to save your own life just as you would to save their lives. However, if someone dislikes someone else, that will not happen – and is called bad morale. If you were gay, would you want to have to depend upon someone who doesn’t like you to keep you alive? True, most soldiers would ignore it – if you haven’t tried to proposition them – but would you want to take the chance on the few who wouldn’t? And – since there is no way to detect those few men before they get you killed – you can’t say that these should be kicked out. Besides, since you admit that the military needs people, why would the military want to eject several otherwise good soldiers so they can accept one gay one?

In combat there can be no experiments or tests to “prove” the gays are good soldiers (actually the professional soldiers who are gay are good). Everything is lowered to the lowest level – live or die.

The army I know believes in being professional and having ingetrity. Being gay has no integrity or morals, therefore it tends to be against the way the military would want you to be. Thank you.

A gay person can be just as masculine, manly and brave as any other man (and probably more intelligent). Perceptions need to be changed, and that’s only going to happen via experience/exposure.

They realize someone must provide that to them but they are careful to never fully consider who that might be. It’s like free sex. Conservatives base their decisions on learned experience. In other words, when you need to make a decision, you base it on what happened last time to either yourself or someone else when they had the same problem.

Liberals base all their decisions on some fantasy of utopia. Everyone has whatever they wish without having to work for it. You can do whatever you like when you like without worries about anyone else objecting. Therefore free sex, for instance. If you want to have sex with another, male or female, they shouldn’t object to it. Therefore free medical. After all, you should be healthy all the time. Therefore governance over what you eat. Again, you should be healthy, right?

But the BIG difference is that making a decision the way a conservative does means that you will likely make a better choice, one that will possibly work for you and everyone else. Making a decision the liberal way means that you will repeat what failed last time. Further, liberal decisions means SOMEONE ELSE is the one who provides all those nice things for them while they pretend you are just as free as they are. I.e., all you have to do is be just like them.
