Veterans' Group Rips Alan Grayson Over His Lack Of Support For The Troops
October 28, 2010 by Personal Liberty News Desk
Representative Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) may be a darling of the liberal left and boast endorsement from director Oliver Stone, but it turns out he has struggled to gain support among some veteran groups.
Grayson has received official support from Veterans of Foreign Wars Political Action Committee (VFW PAC), but other organizations have been less forthcoming.
For example, a group called Patriotic Veterans has blasted VFW PAC over its endorsement. It called it "preposterous" given Grayson's vote in the House of Representatives on July 1 on an amendment that would have withheld funding for the troops in Afghanistan unless the money was used for defensive purposes or withdrawal efforts.
According to Retired Colonel Charles Thomann, who serves as the organization's national spokesman, the congressman's attitude could put troops in danger.
"I urge Florida veterans to take a close look at Congressman Grayson's record on military issues before casting their vote. When it came time to back up our fighting men and women, Alan Grayson went AWOL," Thomann added.
Grayson came to national attention in September 2009 when he implied that Republicans' plan for Americans could be summarized as "don't get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly," during a debate over the healthcare reform on the floor of the House.
