Tea Party Candidates Struggle To Get Ahead In The Polls, But Marco Rubio Is Holding Strong

Tea Party candidates struggle to get ahead in the polls, but Marco Rubio is holding strongTea Party-backed candidates in this year's midterms may be struggling in some states, but it appears that Marco Rubio's Senate bid in Florida is currently safe.

According to a recent poll, Rubio leads his opponents Governor Charlie Crist, an Independent, and Democrat representative Kendrick Meek by some 20 points, at 56 percent.

The survey released by United Faculty of Miami Dade College found that Crist and Meek are 26.6 and 25.7 percent, respectively, with only 1.4 percent of voters still undecided.

"Rubio is riding the current state of deep discontent among voters," said Barry Greenberg, professor emeritus of educational and psychological studies at Florida International University in Miami, adding that "he has become well known and well-liked by his followers."

Meanwhile, Nevada Tea Party-supported candidate Sharron Angle's lead over Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is within the statistical error, while Alaska's Joe Miller is facing a serious threat from the write-in candidate and current GOP Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). The latest CNN/Opinion Research poll puts them at 38 and 36 percent, respectively.

    Many of the Tea Party candidates are faring poorly. While most are leading, their leads have shrunk recently. There seems to be a trend among those Tea Parties doing poorly and those doing well.

    Those doing poorly are:
    Rand Paul
    Christine ODonnell
    Sharon Angle
    Ken Buck
    Joe Miller

    Those doing well are:
    Marco Rubio
    Pat Toomey

    Those doing poorly lack previous experience and do not appear to have well thought out positions. Rubio and Toomey OTOH have experience with both public service and running campaigns.

    DaveM;The actual founder of the TP was on the tube the other night and claimed the TP came about in the last two years of the Bush administration.Today they are mainly controlled by the Koch brothers of big oil and forest products.

    I see alot of Tea party bashing on here by the right and the left. I think its exactly what the establisment big gov.wanabes want us to think let us tear ourselves apart and they win by default.Support real conservitives even if you dont agree on a stand they may take on a single issue. As far as polls go they are so much hot air to drive us to think oh this canidate or that one really cant win.(well unless they support our views lol) Last part said with a large amount of sarcasim. I trust polls about as much as I trust lifetime politicans. Which is to say not much at all. I am heavily in favor of term limits on all of them 2 terms and done. Gives them less time to line their nest with the money of the people. And less time to become corrupt. This government was set up to be a republic not a democracy that I see it being called even by people who say they are republican.That means a set of checks and balances that need to be restored. We need to start on this in November.We were not ment to be ruled by one person or represintive for life. Thats not what our founders had in mind when they created this country.So lets get behind the retoric of the media and really take a look at who is running for office.     One thing you can thank Obama for is the birth of the Tea Party. Finaly people are starting to look at the candidate rather than the party. I think that eventually, barring some bogus disaster, there will be a third alternative view in elections. Main stream media has lost all credability for many people. It has gotten to the point that personaly if there is a news item that I feel is important I cross check it with as much information as I can.

    Nobody should pay attention to pre-election polls. Most of them are just lies intended to sway public opinion. Most people don’t remember that three days before the 2004 presidential election, the polls had John Kerry ahead by eight points. In fact, newspapers in Europe and the Middle East were already calling him “President Kerry”.

    Tea Party, the best thing in the political arena in a long time. But, they’re Politically Correct. In the last few months the “Tea Parties” have been expelling leaders and members for using their 1st Amendment rights as citizens. When someone stands behind a podium he/she speaks FOR and WITH the particular “Tea Party”. When he/she uses a personal blog or website, social page he/she is a citizen exercising their Constitutionally Protected 1st Amendment Right of FREE SPEECH. THOUGH THE TEA PARTIES ARE A GOOD MOVEMENT, THEY STILL HAVE FLAWS AND HAVE NEED OF IMPROVEMENT.

      The Tea Party is a grass roots level movement that is less than 2 years old. As Citizens we are learning how to take back our Nation, and it will take time. The establisment (both parties) has had many decaades to reach the level of destruction thru their incompetance and sometimes out right intent to destroy this nation. It will take “We The People” a while to change this, but we have made great strides in this short period of time. In the next 2 years, we have the chance to make far greater strides than in the last 2 years, because we now have that base in place. As soon as these election are over, we need to focus our attentions immediately on 2012. We must focus on getting rid of the next 1/3 of the Senate (Both Radical Liberals, and RINOS), and focus on getting rid of more more of the radical liberals and RINOS in the house. We need to focus also on getting a true conservative to run for president, and not except what the Establishment Repubs want us to except. At present I do not see that candidate out there among any of the ones being projected, but I feel as some other do that that candidate will emerge once the 2010 elections are over. We need the next Ronald Reagan to emerge, and I feel he or she is their.

        In theory your comment might hold an ounce of credibility. However, it amazes me how the other parties (especially the Democratic party)can engage in big money gathering tactics from any unscupoulous source…and the rest of us are supposed to just ignore and say nothing. I don’t give a rats patooty where the money is coming from for average citizens to be heard. When the other parties start behaving ethically (with regards to money gathering, vote pandering and just about anything else)…I might then give a damn about where the Tea Party money is coming from.

        If you take the time to do extensive research on who the candidates really are (Not the Lame Stream Media and the estabishment pundits throw out) as I do, you will find that many of the establishment (career politicians of both parties) have never run a business, made a payroll, set up a real budget, run a real business producing a product or service. A great number of these new TRUE CITIZEN LEGISLATORS to be, are business people and have done all those things ahead. The backgrounds of so many of these career politicians, have political science or similiar backgrounds, and most of the rest are lawyers. Most of these people have no clue about balancing budgets, delveloping real plans to run anything. The private sector creates jobs and produces revenue. The public sector confiscates a great percentage of this wealth created and wastes it on usless undertakings.

        1) Scott, candidate for governor of Florida, started a health care business named Columbia HC which was accused of ROBBING Medicare and its patients and was fined 1.7 billion dollars.. of course mr, Scott had no knowledge of what was going on like that supercilious British ass, ceo of British Petroleum which polluted our entire Gulf for months “I’m afraid I haven’t the faintest idea of what happened”
        2) Meg Whitman, billionaire candidate for governor of California learnt lessons of frugality from her business years and applied them to her household hiring an illegal latino maid for years. Also disclaimed any knowledge of what was happening under her roof
        The similarity doesn’t end there. Both of these highly successful business persons spent millions of their hoarded wealth campaigning for public office which only pays a few hundred grand a year.
        there are other instances, like one female teapartier named McMahon who gained fame and fortune by publicly kicking the nuts of males in wrestling rings, also spent her own money Which male would have the cohones to face such a fierce opponent? Self preservation comes first, ahead of political ambitions

        1. As the adage goes, “Conservatives think government is bad, and they have the candidates to prove it.”

        2. Most, if not all, of the Tea Party candidates will lose because they are too extreme. For example, let me ask this of the Tea Party supporters: Why is it okay for a tea party candidate to dress up as a Nazis, but Muslims in NY can’t have a community center with a prayer room?

If that really were the issue, I would have no problem with it…however, they want it as a “Musmlin” community center…not a multi-cultural community center to build a bridge of open communication between other communities different from their own.

        I don’t condone anyone dressing up in a Nazi uniform…just dumber than dirt in my opinion; that in and of itself is not the Tea Party majority…so stop exaggerating as if the entire Tea Party supports that kind of stuff. Try not to succumb to the FLL fantasy mindset.

    I agree with SC about polls. There are too many of them and yet of them all, Rasmussen has proven to be the most accurate given its past performances.But,what those numerous other polls do accomplish is to stimulate those of us who want to know into greater interest,therefore in my humble opinion they serve a purpose.Regarding those habitually myopic voters, from all accounts that base is diminishing. It doesn’t mean all will vote out the present regime, but a good number will.

    Just last week I watched a “confirmed Democrat” change before my very eyes. A young father of three children who proudly claimed he was one of the number of Americans who didn’t need to pay federal income tax,that he actually didn’t earn enough to worry about federal taxes, therefore he was sticking with the Democrats who were good for him.

    Of course, he had closed his eyes to the fact that the Bush tax rates would be expiring since the Congress had failed to address that issue. He felt that his dependent exemptions would serve him well against having to pay federal income taxes in the future, regardless.
    I explained that the $1000 per child exemption would now become $500 per, that the present marital credit would be gone,that if he would sell his house after Jan.1,2011 there would be a federal tax of 3.8% of the selling price. Just a brief overview, enough to get his interest.

    Suddenly, from his complacency there was the most confused look on his face, and he first refused to believe me…then he checked with an accountant and verified the information. He was just another guy who had buried his head in the sand! Now, that his wallet is being threatened, he has an interest in conservative national tax policy

    This is a common scenario that we Conservatives don’t address as much as we should. I’m not stating that I’d converted this young man, but I’ll wager he will not vote for his present representative to Congress who happens to be a 3 term Democrat.

      Stan Lee… Too many Dems are like the young man you described. My parents, (both deceased) were staunch Dems to the end. I don’t think either of them knew why, but they had been Dems and regardless of the party migration to the far left, they would be Dems. Dad was racist and my Mother probably was, too. Dad’s ashes are no doubt all over the urn, and my Mother is spinning in her grave. If they were alive, it would be the biggest fiasco they have ever faced in their lives to see the current administration in action. They wouldn’t have dealt with it very well. In fact, I figure they probably wouldn’t have voted in the last election. If they couldn’t vote for a Democratic candidate, then they wouldn’t have voted at all. I would be willing to bet that a lot of the old school Democratic voters will be doing this. We’ll see in November!

      As far as taxes, The Dems only wanted to recind some of the tax breaks for people making over 250K/yr. The Repubs wanted it for the fat cats. Very few of these guys do anything to create jobs.

He said that he’ll give a tax break to the middle class, but has left the poor out in the cold. Another thing, the Bush Tax Cuts were made across the board. I’ve never been rich in my life, but I was given a tax cut in 2001 and 2003 and don’t want to see them end. If he let’s these tax cuts expire, it’ll be the biggest tax increase in U.S. history. It’ll be a whopping $3.8 trillion dollar increase. This will kill businesses, hurt the already hurting economy, bankrupt individuals, etc., but yet you cry about the GOP helping the rich? Norm you really need to get your head out from wherever you put it and bring it back into the light. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

We’ll also be seeing more taxes and more of our money going to the fed when this Obama bin Laden care starts up. More of my hard earned money going to people to are too lazy to get a job or change their lifestyle so they can afford healthcare. This certainly isn’t the ways of our founding fathers! You libs hate it when people talk about self reliance, personal responsibility, and the vision to ensure that government remains our servants and not our masters. You all seem to like bigger government, less freedom for the people, and programs that make people so dependent on government that trying to get off of these programs is next to impossible. Leave the people that have earned their money alone and get rid of this self destructive welfare state we now possess and then the government would have the money it needs to operate.         From everything I have seen and heard the Obama administration proposed an end to tax cuts for the richest 2 percent of the population, while maintaining them for couples earning up to one quarter million dollars a year. Those who claim not to be rich but earn over one quarter million are in the two percent of the population.
        60 votes are needed in the Senate of the US to stop a filibuster. The Republican party of NO in Congress wanted to protect their very rich friends and supporters, adamantly opposed this initiative, threatened a filibuster, and killed it, so if anyone who earns less than one quarter million complains about an increase in taxes, he/she should know whom to blame.

        Executive salaries relative to workers have risen astronomically and still no jobs except in China, Mexico, Viet Nam, and every other slave nation on earth. Matt Lauer (NBC host) makes 12 million per year. Limbaugh is probably around 5 million. How many jobs have they created? How many companies has Tiger Woods started? These wealthy cats have you just where they want you. They are the masters and you just say “thank you sir”.

Clinton did his part by forcing financial institutions to give loans to people who were unqualified to receive them. Then there is also the “Fair Housing Act” during Carter’s administration. There are many individuals I could mention like the flip flopping of John Kerry, along with other fools like Pelosi, Boxer, Hillary, Barney (not the dinosaur), Rangel, etc., the list goes on and on. My wife and i will never vote for such people. Only ones that want this country to get back to the ways it was founded, who support the Constitution, and listen to the will of WE THE PEOPLE. I remember hear Ronald Reagan saying before the nation on TV: “We can make America great again!” We can do this starting in November. Keep up the good fight, fellow patriots! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

    Well, I don’t know about some of the other Tea Party candidates, but it seems that Paladino has shot himself in the foot. Even though I agree with him, he probably could have left the social subjects alone or at least commented about it without the camera’s present, and stayed on the economic issues and probably had a better chance at winning.

    And calling Crisp an independent is just laughable. They really should come up a new category for him, something like “a socialist formerly know as a RINO who said that they would drop out if they didn’t when their parties nomination, but didn’t”. But I guess that would be to long though?

      Dick Armey even counseled candidates to lighten up on the Tea Party’s hard stance on sensitive social issues. ~

      In this process of attempting to acquire better representation you’ve became lost many time along the way showing lack of focus, moderation or modesty.

      I sincerely hope you do shake the GOP up and offer the impedance needed to make the GOP a better party. By split or purge it matters little to me.

      But remember, ~ what you are trying to do. You not going to change the DNC, you only want to defeat them. ~ I think in your zeal you get lost in the process and do yourselves a disservice far too often.

        I didn’t watch either rally but from what I have seen on TV I would guess there were black,(African) brown,(latino) Injun (native “AMERICANS”) and some yellow (Asian)faces bussed in by the unions in contrast to the rousing demonstrations of the tea partiers where one cannot find a single black or brown orInjun or yellow face. Which reminds one of the “pure Aryan white “race of Herr Shicklegruber, aka Hitler, who tried to eliminate all those inferior people (Jews, gypsies, slavs, communists, union members. etc) and was fairly successful at it, during the third Reich.
        Are my impressions incorrect?

        ananair. I was at the 8-28 Glen Beck’s Restoring Honor Rally, and yes there was Blacks and other Races there other then White! I have pictures to prove it, but I don’t feel I need to. Glen Beck ask that No signs be brought because it was not your Tea Party Rally and didn’t want any negative political stuff there, It was a Rally about WE THE PEOPLE standing up and bring about change. Change being getting back to our grass roots that our Founding Fathers set out for us. The Government is for the people, meaning they work for us! And that has Changed, has it not? There was a lot of talk of GOD and why we allowed the Government make so many changes to where there is NO God in our Schools and so on. We are and will always be..ONE NATION under GOD! It was a Great Rally! and I am Glad I was apart of it ;-) ..God Bless you All!

        I feel as if you’ve really said something of great importance.

        This message you/I offers, gives merit to the intentions and purpose of such a Tea Party movement and should offer the focus that seems so lacking.

        It’s hard to accomplish much without shape focus. Be willing to pick and choose your battles. And much more so, if you are wishing to back up and start over.

        The way they are going, there will be no backing up.

    What I see as a trend is that the poll numbers fluctuate with the campaign ads being released. Still to this day, there are so many people that believe what they see and hear on TV. That’s my take here in Calfornia. With all the slandering going on by the left and the support of the biased media outlets it’s tough for the Tea Party endorsed candidates to get a fair shake. The Democrats are pouring in huge dollars for the final kick to the polls ut I’m very optimistic that the liberal hacks are gonna take a whoopin’.

      Christy is not all that great. He plays the game to win and not what is best for his state or people.

      His canceling of the new tunnel from New Jersey to NYC is a travesty of weak thinking.

      The commuter routes are presently running at capacity. The new tunnel would relieve that problem and provide jobs for thousands. The money was in place and the project was ready to roll for the good of all concerned. But to jump on the “austerity bandwagon” shortsighted Christy wanted to appear to be responsible but his decision will hurt the state in the future. This is the kind of infrastructure project our country really needs, but Christy blew it of for political reasons ignoring reality.

      We need conservative leadership, but the kind that can plan ahead more than a few weeks.

      You want Christy? You can have him.

        Well….considering the alternative….we’ll (NM) be happy to take Christie off your hands; in fact, we’ll send ole Billy Boy Richardson and Diane Denish to NJ along with that $5M airplane he bought from a state other than his own state (he didn’t think a $1.5M aircraft built in NM was good enough for him and Densih). Who knows….maybe then he’ll hire some infrastructure workers from NM to do the work in NJ…and with any luck maybe Christie will deal with NM’s teachers’ union….hmmmmmmm….seems like a fair trade (to me)…Now…just kidding a little; I know what you mean, but apparently enough New Jersey voters thought he was the best choice at the time….so maybe that’s the change NJ was hoping for.

        Dick We have more than enough people in the Metropolitan area. Another tunnel will bring in more people and we will look like Hong Kong. If it takes too long to get to work either leave earlier or move to New York. Why should the taxpayers foot the bill to make commuting easier for the Bankers from New York who want to live in NJ?

        Dick Gazinia, I agree it’s sad to see the stoppage of the NY-NJ train tunnel. But Chris Christie deserves praise for being fiscally responsible and not wanting to raise taxes on already overtaxed NJ residents…..It should also go beyond this, and beyond New Jersey. The NJ-NY rail tunnel actually makes more sense than what we’ve seen here in NYC. For years, we’ve had to endure inconvenience and service disruptions on most subway lines for so-called improvements, repairs or maintenance. But we don’t see any improvements in service, and the MTA keeps raising fares as it operates in the red. How much money is being wasted here?? Likewise with Connecticut and other states; in which highways in no need of repair are constantly being torn up and repaved. It’s nothing more than an inconvenience and waste of tax money – not too mention wasted fuel for needless traffic delays. On both federal and state level, we need to elect leaders who will follow Christie’s lead, and cut wasteful spending on things that are in no need of repair…..BTW, yes we’d rather have Chris Christie than this lemon we’re about to see elected – Andrew Cuomo!!
