Poll: Government Profligacy A Key Issue In Midterm Elections

Poll: Government profligacy a key issue in midterm electionsPoliticians on both sides are trying to figure out what issues matter most to the American people this election season. Unsurprisingly, a recent survey has found that the economic situation and government spending top many voters' list of concerns this year. 

A 10-state poll, sponsored by Public Notice — a nonprofit and non-partisan organization that analyzes the effects of public policy on Americans' financial well-being — found that 71 percent of prospective voters believe government spending is excessive.

Moreover, nearly 65 percent admit that this will be a key consideration when they decide how to cast their ballot this November.

"It's not just the economy people are so upset about, it's the spending" said Gretchen Hamel, executive director of Public Notice.

She added that as a result of "all of the waste, the irresponsible choices, the lack of accountability from those in Washington [it] looks like [voters are] finally fed up."

Hamel also pointed out that because the concern appears to be independent of party affiliation — as 87 percent of Republicans, 67 percent of Independents and 42 percent of Democrats expressed this sentiment — excessive government spending is becoming a personal issue for many Americans.

I know Indains in any state overwhelmingly vote for socialist democrats because it plays in to their victumology. They have been wartds of the federal government so long the young are become gangs like all the rest of the victumology wimps that claim to have a brave strong historical beleif. All the minorities have postituted them selves to the marxist democrats. Of course their pervious ancestors like bein overseeen by a dictator run commune.     Some time ago on CNSnews, Walter E. Williams made a good point – that up to 75% of all federal spending is not even called for in our Constitution!! It’s unfortunate our first black POTUS had to be such a leftwing radical who will undoubtedly be known as the worst POTUS in history. Rather, it would’ve been far better to elect someone like Walter E. Williams, Thomas Sowell, Clarence Thomas, etc. as the first black POTUS. Of course, what’s done is done. It would be great to nominate a black conservative for POTUS like the abovementioned 3 in a future election. This would surely make up for the big mistake American voters made on 11/4/2008!!

    All this spending!! And what good has it done?? NADA!!!! Just deeper debt. Meanwhile, BH Oblunder and his democraps lie to us by saying the costly stimulus/porkulus bill is working well, and saving/creating jobs!! What a lie!! We’ve lost some 4 million jobs since the porkulus bill passed last year…..As for me, I don’t have kids of my own. But I have a niece and two nephews. It’s sad to have to tell them that they are deep into debt before they even begin their careers!! Well, we should also tell them who’s to blame. Although some RINOs and GOP wimps have contributed to our debt problem by siding with democraps, most of it is due to the leftwing socialist democraps. With a few exceptions, it is far better to vote GOP, even if it’s just a vote against today’s liberal profligate spending Democraps.

    This problem we Americans are experiencing with government, it’s unprecedented growth, expense and veracity is a matter we are going to resolve with a new determination. It would not surprise me to see a initiative soon asking for a 28th Constitutional Amendment in order to force government back into line by laying down the law to all elected personnel and a elimination of all government unions. We are now reaching a civil unrest kind of mentality and the prevailing thought is to try and make this work by using the voting process to put in people that want to serve the country not become more of a problem. If this fails the anger will become open and conflict will become the means to remove a government that has grown complacent and corrupt, one that cannot serve the nations needs.

      No, they are not clueless. They are government, we breath, they spend. It is easy to spend when it is not your money to spend. They have been doing it for decades and now they know the American People are tire of their spending, their lazy attitude toward immigration, money, Foreing policy, Islam, unemployment and all the other woes America is facing right now. We the People have finally woke up to the fact that the government is not going to take care of us, quite the reverse. We the People have been taking care of the government, paying them for nothing, making it so they can make stupid laws to keep us in check and at the same time, giving themselves more and more power over the masses. Now they are shaking in their boots because the Gravy Train has come to a halt and all the markers have not been paid off yet. If they lose their jobs now, they will still owe alot of people and they won’t have the power anymore. One thing we need to do is get rid of the Golden Fleece program our politicians say doesn’t exist. Put them on the Social Security with the rest of us.

    Mila: I can say I thought about migration of my family to parts of the earth in better financial shape. Stirred up great conversations with nice people in at least one Canandian Provence. In the end, I’m digging in to preserve my extended family and friends over a wide area of the U.S.A. If America goes down, so does the rest of the world. Not just financially but freedom for all. I’ve worked fifty years to have a modest nest egg to live out the remainder of my days and help family when bad things happen, I’m not giving it up for a change in the guard of our government. I make my own family welfare program. I decide how my money is used as it represents who gets the benefit of my past labor. That is the difference in freedom and slavery.

        Just how do you propose to get a factory built without rich people to put up the money? I’ve personally never seen a group of poor people build a factory, produce a product line, or donate a hospital wing to the community. Pilgrims did come without money but they had sponsors (donors) in the Netherlands, Holland, France, Spain, and a few in other european countries. Still took from 1605 to present to get where we are. I can’t wait that long, neither can you, my friend. Rich people leave when the government strangles free enterprise by regulation/taxation. Try to get a better idea than “Fine, let them”.

        Yes, it took awhile for us to get where we are. But the pilgrims helped each other. If one person needed a barn raised , the community got together and helped. Now I am not trying to be sexist here. But the men built the barn, the women cooked lunch and everyone ate and worked. The older children watched the younger kids while all this was going on. That was the pilgrim days. If the rich left the country today, it would be hard for awhile. No one to donate that hospital wing. but plenty of people with the knowledge to build one. We the People are just as strong as we were then, we have just gotten to the point where we used money to buy what we needed. The barter system used to be in play. I can weld. My neighbor is a plumber. Yet another neighbor can do carpentry work. So I weld a fence for my neighbor so he can go and rough in that addition for the plumber and the plumber could put in that sink I need in my kitchen.
        The farmer down the road has chickens and cows and horses. He could trade me milk for my skills as a welder when the feed trough had worn out and he needed another one made. The carpenter could fix the roof on his barn and get eggs. The plumber could fix his toilet and his bathtub and get 3 chickens. Money is backed by gold. Do you really think we have enough gold to cover all the money that has been printed? Money is a Federal Reserve Note. Do you really think it is covered? I doubt it.

Honest, Would our government lie to you? Hmmmm…..well since we all figure if a politicians mouth is moving he is lying , why then do we assume that a piece of paper saying it is a Federal Reserve Note has the backing of gold because our leaders say so?

    Yes its spending, and particularly the propensity to give my tax dollars to those who just live on public assistance as a permanent life style. But its also about the arrogance and entitlement that we’ve allowed congress and their staffs to get high on. They’ve decided that they can line their pockets with perks and exempt themselves from laws they force on us. The list is long, but I’m looking for conservative candidates with a servants attitude. Really hard to find these days. Boxer and Pelosi are two of the worst examples of the arrogance that characterizes our congress.

    Anyone who says these mid-terms are not a referendum on the current admimistration (and his/their legislative enablers) is delusional at best or partisan to the point of being handicapped.

    Also, which party thinks the spending is just fine (on them??) according to the majority (58% if my math is right) of its’ members? Not an indictment but certainly a VERY telling observation.

      And here is an example of where the dems and rino’s would take us.

      An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

      The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”..
      All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A….

      After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

      The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
      When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

      As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

      All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
      Could not be any simpler than that. (Please pass this on) Remember, there is a test coming up. The mid-term election in 2010!

        You are quite correct. Why bother to work hard and make lots of money when you get exactly the same as the one who loafs? As one of my cousin’s told me once, “You stupid to work for a living. You have to do what someone tells you five days a week. I draw welfare so I can go fishing whenever I want. And you have to pay for it!”

    It is no suprise that only 42 percent of dems are concerned about spending. Its because traditionally the spending is on them. food stamps, housing, health care etc.

    Like I have said many times, ” the only reason that the Dems are where they are today, is because for decades they have been buying votes with tax payer money.” (when you rob from Peter to Pay Paul you can count on Paul to vote for you.”)

    this is the reason that the percent of the spending on social programs has balloned to the size that it is today. in the process of buying votes, the Dems have written checks to their friends (Democrat supporters) that they cannot cash.

    The Dems are seeing their vote buying tool fading away and they are scared to death. lets face it, without the ability to buy votes they are powerless.

    I think all politicans live in a dream world. Money does not matter to any of them. I do know I can not survive if my yearly budget was like the “guvment”. Yes spending is of great concern, also the way our “guvment” is being run by those that are elected. The current administration is so full of crooks, tax dodgers, oh it was a mistake, employing illegals, convicted felons, just think of it and I’ll bet we can find one member of Congress or one of the “czars” that have comitted on of the acts.

    I was brought up to believe that service to an elected office was to be one where you lead by example, not by do as I say, not as how I do. We the people are the ones that have allowed Congress and the “guvment to be in the present condition. We have adopted and attitude of “they can’t do that”, well they are doibng it abnd we have let them. get off you butts and vote in NO)vember, send a message to them, they work for us the people.

      I think, to insure they know who they work for, that all pay for Senators and Congress be decided by the state they are elected from. And it should be set by popular vote. If they do a good job, they get paid more.

      Further, they should not be allowed to take money for “speaking engagements” etc. while in office. No gifts. Only their salary.

        I have maintained in the past that their pay should be tied to the deficit. If it goes up their pay goes down, if it goes down then their pay goes up! watch how fast they balance the budget then!!!

        I’ll go with that. We have to tie their salaries to something that will effect it if it is not kept under control. Other than Congress voting in their own raises. I understand they were working on or have already passed a bill that made their raises automatically unless they each vote that they don’t want a raise. Anyone working would love to have a set up like that. Let’s get all the garbage out of Washington and start over. Then next Presidental election, let’s get Obama the scum out of the Oval Office and get someone in with the understanding that they will do the job or get kicked out. Simple

If you are here and you are not supposed to be. I don’t care if you spent 30 years here. raised a family, have businesses and other financial holdings. You came here illegally so you are no different than a drug dealer and simply by your illegal presence in this coutry you came by all your holdings illegally so if you are found to be an illegal then all your assets should be frozen and all your possessions confiscated. Then you and your illegal family should be given a ride back across the border or given a plane ticket to whatever country you came from. You come to my country, enjoy the same freedoms I do, yet you fly your country’s flag at your house. That is not personal freedom.
