Do you realize how many more people are getting an education now that never could have before? I only became aware of it a couple of years ago. Had I known I would not have had to wait til 63 to go back to school. Unfortunately, in this day and age, more education is a requirement to get a good job, whether that be in the trades or any other industry. I’m going to a community college that has more nurse students than anything else because there is such a demand for nurses. the area I live in has been hit hard by sending their jobs overseas. The southern mill towns have been having a hard time for a while now; and being educated is getting people back on their feet. I’m grateful to have a government that cares about assisting people. Beats many others. Would you rather it was a like a 3rd World country that does nothing for its citizens?

When Reagan or Bush or even Clinton was on vacation, they were still available during a crisis or a problem. Not Obama. As Eddie47d said, it doesn’t take much effort to find the facts. It is common knowledge that W holds the record for presidential vacations. 490 days at the Crawford ranch, 487 at Camp David. Sure, he took some calls and did some work while on vacation, but every president does, but that’s over 1/3 of his days in office. So where do I get these numbers? Beau Elliot, The Daily Iowan, Jim VandeHei and Peter Baker, Washington Post, Mark Knoller, CBS News, just to name a few. I don’t need to make up facts.

So, tell me Kinetic, since you know so much about what Obama pays for, who is paying for the cost of all of his campaigning for Democrats? He is flying all over the U.S. in the people’s plane, apparently at taxpayer expense, campaigning for one political party. Can you tell me if the taxpayer is being reimbursed for these campaign costs? Is the DNC paying for this? If not, why not? What campaign laws allow the President to charge this off to the taxpayer? And, do you know how much money has been spent by the President for this. The people are not responsible for the President’s campaign costs. So, who’s paying for this? If this is coming out of the people’s pocket, this is abuse, if not theft. He is not campaigning for Republicans, Libertarians, or any other political party except Democrats and himself. How many miles have been logged for Air Force One, and for what purpose? Who keeps up with this and who has oversight? Does anyone here know?

I can’t argue with you here, though this is not strictly an Obama issue. Presidents have been running off on campaign trips for as long as I can remember. They travel to promote their bills, they travel to promote their agendas and they travel to support other politicians. Since it’s in their interest to maintain or get control of the House and Senate, they travel all over during the mid terms. Since they want support in the states they fly out in support of their party’s candidates for Governor, and to the best of my knowledge we are the ones footing the bill.

I don’t like it either. I don’t like the amount of time our politicians spend running for office and raising campaign money when they should be working on the peoples business, but that is how our system is run. Worst of all, now that we have this new SC decision on campaign financing, corporations both known and unknown are dumping hundreds of millions into campaigns and ads and we don’t get to know who is behind what! Our electoral system is broken and we the people (and I do not include corporations when I say people) are the ones who will lose.

JKO, please do the math. Obama spent 26 days on vacation during his first year. Bush spent 69 days on vacation during his first year. 69x.4=27.6. Obama spent less that 40% of the time Bush spent. Now, Bush spent an average of 62 days a year at his Crawford ranch alone. If we ignore all other vacations taken during his presidency, and assume that Obama will bring his total up to 26 again this year, Bush is still running a 2 year total of 17% of his time compared to Obama’s 8%. Now I am playing with averages here, but it’s to Bush’s advantage. So it looks like Obama is really going to have to ramp up his vacation time if he ever expects to meet your expectations.

Don’t confuse JKO and Craig with facts. They talk like they just came off a bender and You’re spoiling the rest of the party. Pour them another drink!

So, tell us Kinetic, since you are an expert on cost here, how much money is allowed for the First Lady’s staff. What is the precedent set by other First Ladies compared to Michelle Obama? Do First Ladies have a budget of what the taxpayers have to pay for her upkeep, if there is such a budget, and what does the budget include? Since you espouse to be in the know here on such matters, how about giving us a run down on who funds the First Lady’s personal care team and who authorizes such funding. The cost for Michelle appears to already be in the millions of dollars. What portion of this does she personally pay for? And, who will be paying for the cost of her upcoming announced Democrat campaigning? She will, no doubt, be using the people’s equipment for travel. Will the DNC be reimbursing the taxpayers on this? Inquiring minds want to know, or should insist upon knowing.

Most outsourcing took place about 1995 to 2008 give or take. Give your buddy George a call and see if he’ll let you stay at his ranch for a week. Many folks don’t take vacations and if they do they’ll stay home and do needed chores. You didn’t say what you do with you’re vacation time?

All I did was point out that several recent Republican Presidents took much more time during their first 2 years. I can’t help it if Dubya holds the record (breaking the record formerly held by President Reagan.) As for statistics, this was a simple matter of keeping count. Do presidents ever do any work while on vacation? Sure they do! No one said that Bush or Reagan or any other President didn’t do any work. But all things being equal, President Obama has not spent so much time away from work that it is anything worth writing an article about.
