It's the Spending, Stupid

September 24, 2010 by

It's the Spending, Stupid

Now there’s a message I hope you’ll see and hear a lot between now and election day — on bumper stickers on the backs of cars, in email messages and letters to the editor, on radio talk shows and a hundred other places; including in front of every polling place in the country, if that were allowed.

Please do your share to pass it around — including sending this column to a few dozen friends and family members who should read it. I wish I could take credit for the slogan — an obvious twist on the James Carville/Bill Clinton message two decades ago — but I can’t. It was the headline in a Daniel Henninger column last week in The Wall Street Journal.

Henninger began by quoting the president at a town-hall meeting in Fairfax, Va., where our Obfuscator in Chief attempted to explain the election victories of various Tea Party candidates.

“They saw the Recovery Act. They saw TARP. They saw the auto bailout. And they look at these and think, ‘God, all these huge numbers adding up.’  So they’re right to be concerned about that.”

Right. You feel our pain. I think we’ve heard that before.

Of course, the president could also have mentioned new deficits of more than a trillion dollars a year, two $3-trillion budgets since he took office, and a trillion-dollar healthcare entitlement shoved down our throats. Voters aren’t just “concerned,” Mr. President. Many of them have had it up to here with bloated, wasteful government spending. They are, to quote a wonderful old movie, mad as h**l and they’re not going to take it anymore.

If you consider yourself one of the “they” referred to above, you can take heart from the latest poll results. Last week the Rasmussen poll queried potential voters. Nearly seven out of 10 — an outstanding 68 percent of the total — said they want smaller government and lower taxes, even if that comes at the cost of fewer services.

The number was highest, of course, among people who identified themselves as Republicans, with 88 percent saying they wanted spending reduced. Democrats scored the lowest, but a still impressive 44 percent in favor of cuts. And where did the independents fall? Some 74 percent joined the anti-spending crowd.

My liberal friends, you’ve got trouble. Big trouble. And not just in River City. I’m not sure there’s a lie big enough, or a smear nasty enough, to keep you from getting your heads handed to you this fall.

If I were running against an incumbent, one of the first questions I would ask is, where were you when the tax cuts expired? And why did you do nothing to preserve them?

In case you’ve missed all the hullabaloo, here’s what’s happening… or, to be accurate, not happening.

Back in 2001, blessed by a healthy Republican majority in the House and Senate, George Bush persuaded Congress to approve some of the largest tax cuts in our country’s history. The Democrats couldn’t stop the legislation, but they very cleverly exacted a condition: The tax cuts would expire on Dec. 31, 2010, unless Congress extended them.

We’re getting awfully close to the witching hour and thus far, Congress hasn’t done a thing… except expend a lot of hot air. If Congress does nothing over the next three months — and usually, I’ve got to admit, that’s exactly what I wish the esteemed men and women who represent us would do — you and every other taxpayer in this country will see a lot more money taken from your pocket next year and given to Uncle Sam.

In fact, it will amount to the largest tax increase in U.S. history. And it will impact almost every taxpayer in the country. The front-page story in my local paper said it all: “Unless Congress acts, almost all earning levels will be paying more — from the wealthy to the working poor.”

And please don’t let anyone sucker you into believing that what’s at stake here are “tax breaks for the wealthy.”  That is a bunch of hokum. Listen to this: “A typical family of four with a household income of $50,000 a year would have to pay $2,900 more in taxes in 2011, according to a new analysis by Deloitte Tax LLP, a tax-consulting firm,” according to a story by The Associated Press.

But if you do make more than Obama’s $250,000 threshold, get ready to be really hammered. Starting on Jan. 1, 2011, the top marginal income-tax rate is set to increase to 39.6 percent from 35 percent. The phase-out of itemized deductions will raise that rate to 40.8 percent. Now that Obamacare has passed there will also be a 3.8 percent healthcare tax, starting in 2013. So the total Federal tax rate for our highest earners will be 44.6 percent.

But, in fact, it will be even higher. When the Bush tax cuts expire, taxes on stock dividends and capital gains will go from 15 percent to 20 percent. President Barack Obama has said he would like to see them raised as high as 28 percent.

And here’s an astounding fact that is known (or should be) to every member of Congress: Whenever Congress has increased taxes on capital gains in the past, actual tax collections have gone down.

That’s right: When government raises the tax rate, actual receipts drop. When you think about it, it’s not hard to understand why. Capital gains only occur when someone sells an investment and reports making a profit on it. But most of the time, they don’t have to sell. Given the mood of the country right now, how many investors will sit on their holdings rather than give more and more of them to a greedy, grasping, irresponsible government?

Oh, and there’s one more monstrosity racing down the road toward us. That is the re-imposition of the dreaded estate tax. Beginning next year the estate tax is slated to return to 55 percent on inheritances above $1 million. Right now, because Congress did nothing last year, the estate tax is zero. That explains the delirious joy on the part of the heirs of such billionaires as John Kluge and George Steinbrenner.

By dying this year, they saved their families over a billion dollars in taxes. Imagine — their heirs got all the money, not Uncle Sam. No wonder the distributionists among us are having apoplexy.

Where does all that money go? Part of it makes certain that Federal employees now make, on average, more than twice as much as workers in the private sector. That’s the startling conclusion of an analysis by USA Today, which found that anyone lucky enough to be gobbling at the Federal trough receives, on average, some $41,791 in benefits a year.

That’s in addition to a salary, on average, of $81,258 a year. Private workers, in comparison, earn only $61,051 in total compensation.

Let me repeat the first number, to make sure you grasp it. The average benefits of a Federal employee, above and beyond the salary he or she actually gets paid, comes to $41,791 a year.

If that isn’t enough to make you want to throw some tea into Boston Harbor — and a whole bunch of incumbents along with it, I don’t know what will.

Until next time, keep some powder dry.

“Almost ALL economists agree on this.”

Then ALL ECONOMISTS need to be FIRED!

    • DaveH

And where do most of those economists get their paychecks. Government, of course. Is it any wonder they don’t want to bite the hand that feeds them?
You can find real economists at Mises.org.

      • a progressive nightmare

Bitter and DaveH, Yep, correct again. Same thing with this global warming scam. Nothing more than politically motivated junk science with both having the same agneda for America at hand.i.e.; PROGRESSIVE-MARXISM

  • Robert

by the way here is an example I want you to digest. puplic school teachers make forty thousand dollars and up with retirement of 80000 dollars a year. private school teachers make 28ooo a year and get social security which is 30000 a year. private schools students have better education than puplic schools. puplic schools have 2o students per classroom, private schools have 30 to 40 students per classroom . more work private less pay, public less work more pay.

    • Bitter Libertarian

Spot on…IMHO the Entire Dept of Un-Education needs to be dismantled. private schools will be competative as you pay. The reason they FIGHT to keep the putrid school system is its more tax revenue they extract from everyone, even if your kids dont use the system or you have NO CHILDREN!

WAKE UP ..this injustice has been perpetrated by BOTH parties and they sit back and enjoy your ignorance.

I wish they had a BOX on election day…. “NONE OF THE ABOVE- TRY AGAIN”

    • Karolyn

Blame the teachers’ unions. As long as under-par teachers are allowed to teach because of tenure, kids will be denied what they are due.

      • a progressive nightmare

Dismatle the department of “Un-education” and start over.

    • http://?? Joe H.

      Robert,
I have to call you on one thing. I haven’t seen a public classroom with less than 25 students unless it is a “honors” class! most here are 25 to 30 each!

  • Arthur Curtis

A very simple solution to the whole tax and spend problem is this: 1) Amend the Constitution to restrict government borrowing to DECLARED wars or emergencies of a national nature; 2) restrict the government to spend up to revenue collected the prior year (e.g. revenue for 2009 to be 2010′s spendable money;) and finally: 3) balance the budget by eliminating entitlement and other ‘give-away’ (TARP, Porkulus) programs, most recently passed first then back in time through the ‘great (not!) society’ until the U.S. is back in the black. I also recommend a flat 10% across the board tax rate with no loopholes or deductions. Yes I’ve heard the whiners complain that a poor man can’t afford 10% as easily as a rich one. But how many times have we all heard this response to an employee’s pay raise: “Great, I got a dollar raise and pushed into the next higher tax bracket, so I really only got a 30 cent raise!” By adding the incentive of a progressively lower tax through hard work, we see an economy boom of astonishing proportions. I’d also suggest a voluntary excess tax list so all these wealthy libs could sign up to have more of THEIR wealth redistibuted if higher taxes are what they think is really needed. I highly doubt any signatures would appear though.

  • Robert

only a total fool would spend worse than a drunken sailor and expect everything to be ok. I learned as a young lad that money does not grow on trees. when you spend into the future you have nothing to live on. the people in the depression knew this and after Roosevelt robbed the people of their gold they had nothing and starved. that is why people know that gold is the only thing of value and to keep it hidden so the theives in govenment can not do that again. The government is the crooks best example of what to do. obama was a chicago gangster in brooks brothers clothing. He was just another crook on the take. He is going to make castro look like a saint.

    • HFlashman

Did you protest when Bush II destroyed the surplus (which would have paid off the debt) ?

      • Bitter Libertarian

Theres alot to protest from every President starting with Johnson.

We didnt get in this mess in the last 8-10-12 or 20 years…. Big Picture … having our economy owned by a Foreign Interest is whats been Killing & Bankrupting Americans.

      • Ted Crawford

At some point, ole flashie, one would think that even a progressive would understand that there was NO SURPLUS from the clinton presidency!! The phantom surplus was created using trick accounting that included the claiming of Social Security Taxes payed in and not reporting the benefits payed out! Any administration, with the very notable exception of the current one, could have claimed a surplus!! In any case, if you recall, the conservatives had control of the house at that point. By The Constitution they get credit for the economy, good or bad!!

      • JeffH

HFlashman, the Clinton surplus is a myth, never was and never will be.

On FY2000, the National Debt was $5.674178 trillion with a deficit of $17.91 billion.
FY2001, the National Debt was $5.807463 trillion with a deficit of $133.29 billion

The budget was almost balanced in FY2000 (ending in September 2000 with a deficit of “only” $17.9 billion), but it never reached zero–let alone a positive number. Clinton’s last budget proposal for FY2001, which ended in September 2001, generated a $133.29 billion deficit. The growing deficits started in the year of the last Clinton budget, not in the first year of the Bush administration.

You can verify these figures by accessing the U.S. Treasury website where the national debt is updated daily and a history of the debt since January 1993 can be obtained.

They call him flushman cause he flushed his brain down the progressive toilet!!!

Joe, you are assuming he had some to begin with.

      • DaveH

The Liberal Siren-Song is an easy sell to ignorant people because everybody would like the easy road to comfort and happiness. Who wants to face the reality that it takes hard work and sacrifice to live the good life.
And then after all that, the lowlifes show up to help themselves to your hard-earned assets. It’s no wonder that the Liberal promises are so easily accepted by the ignorant citizens.

  • http://eletter@news.personaliberty.com Frank J. Randazzo

The obozo administration is making the Clinton presidency look as if it had morals. one 17 million dollar (whats 17 mill.to obozo)stimulus payment went to Oregon university so they would keep michelle obozos brother as their basketball coach. Or how about 2BILLION so Brazil can drill off their shore and the billions given to other countries to drill All the while he has a ban on drilling here. The extravigant vacations etc. NOV.can not come soon enough for real Americans so we can vote this slime dust and dirt out and complete the job in 2012!!!.

    • HFlashman

Excuse me? First of all…there is no “Oregon University” …

Second of all…since I am an involved father of an alumi of Oregon State University, where Robinson is the basketball coach, I know of no “grant’ or federal monies to pay his salary. If you’re speaking of the Marine Research Institute grant just announced (nowhere near 17 mil) …. that was given to accomplish the unfunded mandate by Bush that the offshore shelf on the west coast be surveyed and mapped for habitat etc to determine if they can drill offshore and what would be the effect.

Doesn’t matter…your statement of error proves you have no clue what you’re talking about…just another blathering idiot filled with hate and led by his Masters

      • Bitter Libertarian

“If you’re speaking of the Marine Research Institute grant just announced (nowhere near 17 mil) …. that was given to accomplish the unfunded mandate by Bush that the offshore shelf on the west coast be surveyed and mapped for habitat etc to determine if they can drill offshore and what would be the effect”.

Sounds like public funds for private profit.

  • Chuck

I tend to agree with most of your article until you start the typical discrediting of the Federal workforce. In the 11 years I’ve been a Federal employee the workload that people in my career have seen their workload triple due to retirements and people leaving to take better paying jobs in the private sector.
You quote a highly suspect report from USA Today regarding Federal employee’s pay, “That’s in addition to a salary, on average, of $81,258 a year. Private workers, in comparison, earn only $61,051 in total compensation.
Let me repeat the first number, to make sure you grasp it. The average benefits of a Federal employee, above and beyond the salary he or she actually gets paid, comes to $41,791 a year.”
Well I’ve been a Federal employee for 11 years and I make no where near $81,258 per year and very few of the people I know make that much. A recent GAO audit also shows that people in the highly skilled career fields make approximately $20,000 less than the private sector. Another thing you ignore is that most of the people who are employed by the government are in the highly skilled categories our office staffs have been reduced to the point that they are almost non-existent.
You also have to figure in all the minimum wage workers in the private sector, those pay levels don’t exist in the federal sector. If you are going to use statistics to substantiate your article I suggest you use data from a credible source that has actually done some scientific research to get their numbers.
Your figure of fringe benefits is $41,791. I would like to know how that figure was derived. I certainly don’t receive anything like that and since I am a contracting officer I know a little about loaded wage rates and overhead.

  • James

Why doesn’t the federal government just give each American a million dollars, then no one would have to work anymore?

    • FlashmanLied ReasonDied

That’s my idea too. Divide up the stimulus and send it to the taxpayers in the form of a rebate check.

      • a progressive nightmare

apply it to the debt! Our grandchildren will appreciate it, trust me!

  • Joyce from Loris

I am currently reading the new “Pledge” presented by the republicans. I haven’t seen the words I was looking for yet. Words like “Term Limits”, or “End Welfare” or “Deportation”, etc. What I am sick and tired of is simple, and it does not matter which party it is as I consider them all to be whores, but where in the Constitution does it say that the government can take my money away from me, by force, and give it to someone else? Whether it is person sitting on their front porch waiting on their welfare check, or a nation that figures America owes them something?? It’s my money, not their to give away. It should not take trillions of dollars to support this government every year. It is ridiculous and I am sick of it. I feel like withholding my money until the government starts acting responsible enough to be trusted with it, but the government HAS GIVEN ITSELF THE POWER to sieve my bank account, garnish my wages, take my property, any thing it wants to do, to get my money. I am ready for a REAL tea party. I am ready to throw all the bums out and start over! I want to be FREE, and as long as the government has these POWERS OVER ME, I am not free.

    • HFlashman

That “pledge’ is nothing more than words. It has no substance. Note it doesn’t say anything about earmarks…nor give anyting of substance at all. The GOP said it garnered the “pledge’ from online voting…but when I looked at that site…ending earmarks was second on the list. Hmmm…

Also note…each oe of the items is tailored so that Big Corporate America can continue to rape us and small business and the average American takes it on the chin….again.

      • BigBadJohn
      • a progressive nightmare

well flashpan, at least is is something in writing, which is a start. We can then hold those who sign on to the agreemnt ACCOUNTABLE just like we are going to hold those accoutable who are currently in power, come NOVEMBER.

      • Denniso

The ‘Pledge’ is a total joke and myth. The Pledge would let all the Bush tax cuts continue and add about 3 1/2 trillion $$ to the debt in ten yrs. The Repubs can’t stand having the top 2% in the country pay 39% in tax instead of 36%.
The ‘pledge’ would not cut enough spending to make a difference and doesn’t touch the $700 billion war/defense budget. The pledge states a lie and pretends that it could balance the budget by 2020, after racking up 7 trillion $$ in tax cuts…it’s quite simply,a fraud on the American people and the Repubs think that we are dumb enough to believe it…sadly, some are.

      • a progressive nightmare

Denniso, As I just stated, it is a work-in-progress with our future leadership. Many many revisions will be made before the election. I personally and several people I know are being asked daily what else could be done. ANSWER: IT IS THE SPENDING – STUPID!!! CUT THE DARN FOOLISH SPENDING OUT and CUT THE SIZE OF THIS BLOATED FEDERAL GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, you people bitch and complain and state the GOP has no ideas but when they respond to the peoples anger over this “Progressive Nightmare” then you bitch about that too. Now, given that fact, who is the party of “NO”? It appears you are because you have no ideas other than print and spend our grandchildrens money!

Bottom line, we want a smaller more efficient and ACCOUNTABLE government and you can keep your CHANGE.

      • DaveH

Nightmare, Denniso could care less about the grandchildren as long as he has a place at the Government Trough.

      • a progressive nightmare

absolutely correct DaveH, These childish people care about nothing more than their next party and pickup partner.

      • Denniso

        DaveH forgets,what I’ve repeated several times, I’ve never had a gov’t
job and have been self employed for most of my adult life. I imagine many of the loudest shouters here about the evils of gov’t can’t say the same. At the same time, I have nothing against people who do work for one level of gov’t or another, only the ones who then scream about the evil gov’t…hypocrisy.

    • JeffH

Joyce from Loris, while the “PLEDGE” sounds good in theory and seems to touch on the concerns of the voters, the “proof will be in the pudding”. Republicans are distrusted “almost” as much as the Demcrats, “ALMOST”!
At least they’re trying to win the hearts of the voters, something he Democratic Party has no clue about.

That said, the constant rhetoric, name calling and mis-information will be delivered by the lefts MSM and of course the likes of Bite-Me Biden, Slick Willy, Nazi Pelosi, Dingy Harry and the O’man himself.

      • a progressive nightmare

Well said Jeff, as I stated to ole flashpan, at least we have something in writing, which is a good start. It needs work but it is a beginning point of conversation with WE THE PEOPLE. Once refined, then WE ALL SIGN ON and then hold those accountable who we placed in power. Just like holding those accoutable who are in power now. It’s that simple!

      • JeffH

a progressive nightmare, no doubt the country is tired of the “trust me” rhetoric from both parties. Time for some real change around here.

      • a progressive nightmare

        Yep!

      • Angel wanna-be

Amen JeffH!___At’s what I’ve been sayin’ alllll along!____REPUBS OR DEMS_NO MORE LIES, PUT UP, OR SHUT UP & GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY!!

  • David

Rebulicans are poised to take back the house, at least. We expect big changes. The contract with America is ok but we expect you to shrink the gov. You can start by dropping the dept of education. If you can’t get it done during the next two years; then show us how each member voted. The tea party will use this to cull out all dems and moderate repubs in 2012. 2010 is just the start…..repubs are talking big right now but we will be watching every decision they make.

So either fix the problem quickly or we will move you out, no matter which side you are on. The straight ticket voting is over.

IT’S THE BORROWING , CHIP ! gov’t borrowing [bond selling] is killing us faster than anything else ; why sell bonds [debt on the citizens] when you should be issuing dollars ; the ngo fed issues dollars from air and buys our bonds ; we lose they win; the fed is not federal any more than federal express ; the fed is a swindling ccartel owned by international banksters …

    • DaveH

      duggy,
If they weren’t spending in excess, they wouldn’t need to borrow.

I agree with Chip’s massege. But I already come up with my own quote and put it on my car. There it is :

One POPULATION under the GOVERMNENT with DEBT and TAXES for all.

On this one I have to disagree with Mr. Wood. With the current mountain of dept all the tax Bush tax cuts must expire.I am in full agreement on reducing spending, but we have two wars on borrowed money. I do not buy the hurt the econemy talking point, if these tax cuts are so helpfull we would be seeing prosparity now, 9 and 7 years is a long time for them to have produced. I also hold the unpopular opinion that all citizens should pay some Federal tax, one half of the population do not pay federal taxes yet receave all the benafits that the goverment provides. Spending is out of control, I would cut all forign aid, how has it become the responsability of the American taxpayer to support forign nations. Another unpopular opinion I hold is that millatary/defence spending must be slashed. Its time to take care of our own. I have more details on my blog purple50.org

    • FlashmanLied ReasonDied

Dem. majority has resulted (over and over?) in more gov. spending and then cries for more taxes to pay for it. It looks like Dem. is equivalent to Big Gov. Rep. not much better. Watch what they do and vote according to that.

    • DaveH

The problem is, Gregory, that if they are allowed to raise taxes, they typically just spend more.
I like your idea that everybody should pay Federal taxes. In fact, I think all adults should pay the same amount. Let the people, who can’t cut a check, fill out the paperwork hoops explaining why they can’t pay and leave the rest of us alone. Having every adult pay an equal share would create a huge momentum against further Federal Government growth, so I would expect the Feds to fight such a concept tooth and nail.
And there should be no corporate taxes. As so many Liberals argue – Corporations aren’t people. Fine, then why should they pay taxes? We should be happy that they are supplying us with jobs.
All the myriad taxes issued upon the citizens are just Government’s sneaky way of getting more taxes for their gang from the rest of us.

  • patrick

Let me tell all you good Americans out there about Gov’t jobs. I am an Ex- City of Minneapolis employee, and yes all the benefits that City and Union employees get must be reduced immediately. Here is a breakdown of what you, the taxpayer, pay to keep Minneapolis employees sitting in their throwns: 11 paid holidays, 30 days sick pay, min. of 4 weeks paid vacation, birthdays off and paid for, death leave off and paid for, very reduced medical insurance costs, guranteed pay raises, never loose your job, and a retirement salary any of you would die for! To loose your job you would have to murder the Mayor and all the councilmemebers, the fire chief, the police cheif, etc. Then city employees can bank all their sick leave benefits and all their vacation benefits for years, which would produce many thousands of dollars at retirement time. Since it is a scam, you must pay union dues, or a fair share dues. You don’t get much if anything from the unions when you retire, but Wow just look at the Gov’t retirement package! If you get lucky and find one of those jobs, you know the ones where we see 7 or 8 workers standing and resting with their shovels while 1 or 2 people actually are doing some kind of work! If I were to run for Mayor my campaign would be: cut a minimum of 50% of all employees in all dept starting from the top on down, and cut wages and benefits in half just for starters. And now you have the answers to why most States and City’s are in debt and getting deeper and deeper in debt! Also, 4 weeks vacation is the start, after 15-20 years you will have 2 to 3 months off of paid vacation.. again many thousands of dollares. the garbage dept. employees only work 3-5 hours per day yet get paid for 8 hrs. of non work! Unions and Gov’t employees are bankrupting this great country and it needs to STOP now.

    • Grey Wolf

Thanks Patrick! Great insight. It’s even worse here in Cincinnati. We actually have municipal employees that have criminal records, even in the police & fire departments! The convictions include, fraud, d.w.i.,
felonious assault, theft, failure to pay child support, domestic violence, forgery & perjury, yet these government employees are still on the job collecting wages & salaries that are well above those received in the private sector.
On top of that, the current pension trust fund has lost over a half billion dollars & there is concern now about the future of this over generous plan. What’s even more ludicrous is voters & city council approved a $250+ million trolley system that will go through the worst crime district in the U.S., known here locally as Over-the-Rhine. And if that’s not enough, city council just appropriated $100,000 for each resident to have a recycling can ($72 each) & $125,000 for an entrance monument to one of the neighborhoods.
The tragedy is that Cincinnati was once known as America’s best run, most livable city. That’s now history.

“What’s even more ludicrous is voters & city council approved a $250+ million trolley system that will go through the worst crime district in the U.S., ”

Reminds me of the overhead monorail built in downtown Detroit. Everyone nick-named it the “mugger mover” and no one used it.

        Grey Wolf,
The city of Eastlake had the system of banking ones sick days till we had one man retire tha had only used one day in 24 years! Needless to say, he got a VERY generous settlement when he retired!!! They outlawed it two years later at the threat of layoffs!!! when the union was faced with big layoffs they agreed!!

  • Rennie

I heard Krugman say that if we just keep digging, we will get out of this hole yet. It remoinds me of a “Simpsons” episode where Chief Wiggum, deep in a hole with others looking for buried treasure, yells at Homer: “No! No! Dig up, stupid!”.

  • http://BobLivingston Eleanore Barlow

I blame the House,Senate and dummies that put him in office for the plight that we are facing now. Obama and his idiotic and socialist ideas for running this country (which by the way, he is not a citizen of) have caused the problems that we are facing. If these robots in the House and Senate are left in office it will only get worse. VOTE THE BUMS,CROOKS AND MORONS (namely liberals) OUT OF OFFICE ON NOV. 2ND. If you can’t be part of the solution then keep your complaining mouths shut and go like sheep to the slaughter.

    • Bob

The problem started over 30 years ago when corporations started moving out of the country to increase their profits. The only jobs that will save this country is manufacturing. The only one really humming today is the war material.

      • David

Companies have had to move to survive the legislation and regulation. The liberals hate capitalism because it breeds non-dependents and they can’t stand that.

      • DaveH

Bob, the Government is draining the financial and natural resources of this country with their regulations and their wars. Don’t let anybody distract you from that fact. It takes money to fund this Leviathan Government – 37% of our GDP to be precise. There’s not much left for anything else.
The companies are only doing what any intelligent humans would do when their neighborhood is overrun by thieves – MOVE.

      • http://GOGGLE vaksal

I agree with you DaveH,about the bussiness sector of this republic being run off,by overtaxtion and so many regulations and no protection to cheap foreign imports,it chased those companies off,and the door that was the door that killed all bussiness here was (NAFTA) and everyone knows that story,so i wont go there, but heres a real kicker, well today i recieved a call from a young lady on the phone, saying the reason she called was to get my support, vote wise on pushing enviromental laws concerning enforcement of emission in the state of california, well this is what i told her sadly, but trufully that it wouldnt help since china is making so much pollution that it would negate any offset we could do here.sounds dumb on my part? well being the dumb old ranch kid i was once, ive always read ,scientific american for so long, how many years i cant tell you,the point is that all the nasty stuff those folks do to the air in china rains on this nation 24 7 day and night via the jet stream, well that shocked her,but i have to say like a good sales person she said if went to wind power that would cut the pollution problem in half, with that i agreed, but being the conservative i am i told her a sad fact that 95 percent of the wind generators being build are produced overseas, china, norway, japan, netherlands, and that would mean more national debt, but i told her i would think about it,well i gave it great thought, and will support it 100 percent,if every unit is made here in the united states and why not, more jobs, cleaner air, more industry, then i remembered,we have no more industy in this nation, that can out do the foreign made products that are supported by those governments overseas 100 percent, the point is we must all look at what has happened and is happening to this republic,we are being bled dry by all these imports that are mostly american owned, and are operating overseas because the know it all boys and girls,in this new america(NWO)bunch has burnt the house down, and now they think the american people should support their master of the universe outlook that is really, destruction of the american nation,to change it into a feudal state type police state,i must admit i am truly lost for answers, but i am not stupid,i feel this nation has been sold out by the liberal left wing neo-com communist element in all levels of government,so please wake me up,this is not the republic i once lived in.i believe in clean air,but something stinks in the air and its not right, keep up the great posts DaveH.

  • Doc Sarvis

We have been put in an awful position. Big tax cuts across the board in 2001; then we get shoved into two, ill advised at best, wars. For the first time in our history, the American people as a whole, unless you were in a military family, did not sacrifice in the time of war. On top of that, the greedy among us pull the economy down. How would you like to walk into the Oval office with all of that to deal with? Considering the severity of that economic crash alone, no one should expect a quick fix or a painless recovery.

    • a progressive nightmare

so why not print and spend another 50-100 Trillion, since the first couple of trillion has worked out so well for us? I’m sure my granschildren won’t mind at all! Speaking at Hampton University in Virginia, the president said “information becomes a distraction, a diversion” that is putting “pressure on our country and on our democracy.”
More like putting pressure on the illustrious leaders who would rather operate under the public radar.

      • Granny Mae

Dave You said a bunch there ! LOL !

      • JeffH

Obama never had the opportunity to vote on the invasion of Iraq but he surely voted to support the funding once he arrived in Congess.

“Given the way Obama has voted on Iraq-related bills since his arrival to Congress, however, any attempt by the junior senator to cast himself as a genuine anti-war candidate is disingenous.”

“Obama sponsored 152 bills and resolutions brought before the 109th Congress in 2005 and 2006, and cosponsored another 427.” None of these were related to ending the war in Iraq. Additionally, “once Obama got to Washington [in 2005], he made only one Senate speech on Iraq.”

On May 4, 2006, Obama voted YES for HR 4939, the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2006, which included $67.55 billion for U.S. Department of Defense operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
$31.6 billion for operations and maintenance
$15.46 billion for procurement of aircraft, missiles, weapons, combat vehicles, and ammunition
        $10.2 billion for military personnel
$3.7 billion for the Iraq Security Forces Fund
$1.96 billion for the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Fund
$1.91 billion for the Afghanistan Security Forces Fund
“Earlier, he(Obama)refused to vote for an amendment [introduced June 21, 2006] by Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) that would have, as Obama said, bring the troops home on a ‘date certain’” Sweet wrote.

CBO Data Show Tax Cuts Have Played Much Larger Role than Domestic Spending Increases in Fueling the Deficit

Legislation that has caused deficits to return: Mostly tax cuts and security spending:

    percent of deficit:
    Bush tax cuts: 48%
    Security spending: 37%
    Domestic spending increases: 15%

    http://www.cbpp.org/cms/index.cfm?fa=view&id=966

    • BigBadJohn

Now you’ve done it Harry – The LAST thing anyone on this blog wants to hear is FACTS.

      • Chuck

Yes it’s truly amazing that someone with your eight grade education considers himself the intellectual better of anyone. You cite the “GOP scumbags” who vote no on everything. I suppose you mean things like Obama Care that the “Democrat scumbags” voted for without actually reading and that Pelosi “the noted democrat simpleton” said of, it should be passed so that we could find out what’s in it.
There are simple solutions to nearly all our problems but it would mean that this country needs to stop meddling in every conflict that arises no matter where in the word it occurs. Begin this process by ceasing to be the world’s police force, end foreign aid, pull “ALL” our troops out of the foreign lands in which they find themselves deployed and use them to secure our borders not the borders of countries like South Korea, and round up and deport all illegal aliens.

      • BigBadJohn

        WOW A truly closed mind.

Yes I site GOP scumbags, I also despise the democrat scumbags.

I agree about not being the world police force, we can not continue to fight imperialistic wars to support our corporations. We simply can not afford that level of corporate welfare.

I also agree spending has to be cut.

But the FACT remains that when Reagan cut taxes, he tripled the national debt.
When GWB cut taxes he doubled the debt again. Spending cuts alone will never balance the budget.

Whatever happened to the “Balanced Budget Amendment” that a certain party promised then never followed through with?

      • DaveH

Don’t blame Reagan for that, John. He was wrestling with a Congress where the House was controlled by Democrats and the Senate contained many RINO Republicans like Bob Dole who convinced Reagan he had to compromise and worked against him like a ball and chain.
Reagan vetoed more Bills than any other president in my adult lifetime. About 12% of them were overridden. Could he help that?
As far as the debt increase goes, it increased $1.7 Trillion in Reagan’s eight years of office. Compare that to Obama’s $2.9 Trillion in less than 2 years. And, unlike Reagan, Obama is actively encouraging his Congress to pass more bills and spend more money.

      • dan az

        Dave H
Its funny how these progs and libs all forget to mention who was in control each time they blame Bush or Reagan.Do you think there just ashamed of those facts?

      • DaveH

        Dan,
They definitely didn’t forget. They are either just ignorant of Government workings or they purposely omit those facts which might diminish their arguments.

      • Granny Mae

HA ! The current government has NO budget what so ever ! HA, HA !

      • BigBadJohn

        Dave,
Reagan ran debt from 900 billion to 2.6 trillion which is a 300% increase!!! Most of that came from his tax cuts and military spending increases.

Bush took the debt from 5.7 trillion to 10.6 trillion almost a 200% increase.

Obama has run the debt up from 10.6 trillion to 13.4 trillion, that is about a 25% increase.

300%, 200% or 25% increase in debt, which is worse?

      • http://?? Joe H.

        BBJ,
That is 25% in less than two years and we haven’t even seen the cost of his healthcare yet!!! If and I mean IF he was to have eight years at the rate his appetite is rising that 300% will look like chump change!!! Look at the tax rate in England. Thyey have government healt care an they’re debt is veryclose to ours in % og GDP! Our tax rate is lower but if we accept government controlled health care, we too will be paying near 50%!! Sound real good to you?? Crappy health care and taxes of 50cents of every dollar you make?? I, for one, think it stinks!!!

    • Bruce D.

How much of that domestic spending (other peoples money) went in your pocket Harry??? I use to check stats like that for the longest time that a liberal stated. Now I find it a waste my time as never once did I find a liberal accurate on their stats. At best they coppied it from a liberal site who put out false data. Wake up Harry. There is nothing wrong with people keeping the money they worked hard for. On the other hand there is something wrong with you taking it.

    • duggy dugg

lets include the fact that all american dollars are borrowed from the ngo “fed” in the form of bond sales to fed from treasury ! instead of issuing dollars , the fed borrows them ; this is a good thing ?????

      • James

Duggy, Art. I, Sec. 8, Cls. 1,2 & 5 read: “The Congress shall have Power…To borrow Money on the credit of the United States…[and] To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin.” Should Clause 2 be repealed?

      • CCC

      • http://naver samurai

Borrowing isn’t as bad as how to pay it all back. Obama bin Laden has borrowed trillions from China, so how can we pay that back? We owe them upwards of $10 trillion dollars. Tack on all these unconstitutional programs (Osamacare, etc.) and what do you get? A plan for the financial destruction of this country. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

      • BigBadJohn

Samuri, Clinton had a surplus, Bush sent us down the road of borrowing from China, To the tune of 6 TRILLION dollars!

My problem with Obama – HE IS DOING THE SAME THING AS BUSH!!!

      • JeffH

BigBadJohn, that surplus was nothing more than a myth created with smoke and mirror accounting. I’ll post this one more time because nobody seems to question the real facts of the Clinton “surplus”.

Yes, the budget was almost balanced in FY2000 (ending in September 2000 with a deficit of “only” $17.9 billion), but it never reached zero–let alone a positive number. Clinton’s last budget proposal for FY2001, which ended in September 2001, generated a $133.29 billion deficit. The growing deficits started in the year of the last Clinton budget, not in the first year of the Bush administration.

President Bush assumed the office of presidency January 2001 and his first budget took effect October 1, 2001 for the year ending September 30, 2002 (FY2002). Therefore the $133.29 billion deficit in the year ending September 2001 was Clinton’s. To be fair to Clinton, Bush supported a tax refund where taxpayers received checks in 2001 the cost was $38 billion, So even if we assume that $38 billion of the FY2001 deficit was due to Bush’s tax refunds and not part of Clinton’s last budget, that still means that Clinton’s last budget produced a deficit of 133.29 – 38 = $95.29 billion.

You can verify these figures by accessing the U.S. Treasury website where the national debt is updated daily and a history of the debt since January 1993 can be obtained.
        http://activerain.com/blogsview/855368/the-clinton-budget-surplus-fact-or-fiction-

      • BigBadJohn

Jeff, yes the national debt still went up with Clinton’s “surplus” mainly due to the interest payments on the existing debt. What Clinton did was to make a principal payment against the debt, the first president in 3 decades to do so. I agree a principal payment does not sound like a surplus to me either, but that is the terminology used to indicate a principal payment.

Compare that that to GWB borrowing 800 billion to pay for his two wars and a tax cut, and it looks pretty darn good.

      • JeffH

BigBadJohn, …Clinton’s political “smoke & Mirrors” do not a surplus make. That is what Clinton’s surplus was made of. I’ll not even attempt to excuse Bush’s spending but I will expose the Clinton surplus myth as just what it is, a myth.

      • DaveH

Clinton balanced the Budget? I think not. It was Congress that balanced the Budget, in spite of Clinton:

ROBERTA the problem is government borrowing dollars instead of printing dollars ; the treasury issues bonds [ borrowing ] and the ngo “fed” buys bonds [ lending ] and the national debt shoots upward ; bonds are an interest bearing debt ….payable by you and me ! that’s where our income tax payments go …the national debr !
congress doesn’t spend tax dollars ; it spends borrowed dollars that future income tax payments go to try to pay down the national debt ; they don’t ; they only pay the interest ; we are in severe trouble

I suppose this is a topic where Obummer’s loyal fans will get in line to praise him and claim once again that he inherited everything from what’s-his-name. In places where people appreciate common sense and logic, anyone who ‘takes over’ a problem (voluntarily) and makes it WORSE, then the former “boss” can’t be blamed. It’s the current horse’s ass who’s to blame. Get it?
Yes, it’s the ‘spending,’ and it will remain the ‘spending’ as long as we have people in Washington who should be put up in front of a firing squad.

We are 3.2 million jobs shorter and we are in debt $2.9 Trillion more. Big Deal, a Liberal might say, only $2.9 Trillion more debt. That’s only $8800 for every man, woman, and child in this country. Chump change. Sure.

    • James

S C, Before the firing squad, shouln’t they be charged with violating some law, and found guilty thereof? What law did all this spending violate?

      • duggy dugg

the law voilated was ….BORROWING instead of issuing currency , the gov’t borrows currency as an interest bearing debt ! from the ngo “fed” and china and others

      • denniso

There is nothing illegal w/ the gov’t issuing bonds and treasury bills, people buy the bonds and bills and the gov’t then owes the buyer. The bulk of our debt is owed to ourselves…citizens who hold long term gov’t bonds and bills. It’s not the end of the world.

      • Joyce from Loris

No, it’s not the end of YOUR WORLD, but my grandchildren will be forced to pay this back, you idiot. It is the end of THEIR WORLD, and I and so many just like me, are FURIOUS that people like you are so damn flippant about it. What a heartless, stupid jerk you are.

      • Denniso

Thanks for the kind thoughts…our gov’t and country can run deficits
as most countries do. A majority of the ‘debt’ is owed to our own citizens in long term bonds. We own most of our debt…

      • Bob

Denniso The Fed handed out trillions of dollars to the banks to loosen the loan market with no interest. The bank then turns around and sells it back to the Fed with 2% interest. Nice scam

      • dan az

        Bob
You are correct! And with every dollar they print those bonds depresiate How would that be a good thing?Maybe for the feds but not for the 401ks that are being stolen and forced to buy into! thanks!

      • Arthur Curtis

A firing squad would be good, but best would be simply to strip them ALL of their self voted pensions, perks, salaries and other goodies. Next, prohibit them from ever holding any public office or job in any capacity anywhere in the U.S.. Finally, not allow them any government assistance (welfare, food stamps, S.S. medicare, etc.) Essentially they’d finally have to hold a private sector job, requiring skill and actual work, subject to their own tax nightmare – or move to some other country. Either way we’d be better off.

      GOP’s ‘Pledge’ Guru Was Lobbyist
Hypocrite alert: One of the leading men behind Republicans’ “Pledge to America” document, centered on bringing back the country’s founding ideals, is a lobbyist with expansive ties to some of the biggest corporations in the country. A draft of the document, officially unveiled Thursday, shows Brian Wild as the author. Wild, it turns out, was paid $740,000 to lobby for insurance giant AIG during his five years at the lobbying firm Nickles Group. He also accepted more than $1 million from Comcast, $1.3 million from ExxonMobil, and $625,000 from Pfizer. Prior to that, he served as a legislative aide to Rep. Pat Toomey and an assistant to Vice President Dick Cheney. Republicans deny the connection, saying Wild played only an administrative role in the pledge, helping “to keep the trains running between all the leadership offices.”

No one really knows how many Corporate Heads are actually against the current template – which is the NWO. Does anyone know whats after a trillion dollars?
    Its the New World Order!
Ive heard numbers in excess of 56 trillion by the year 2013. You would think that this economy would be booming but all I see is unemployed and failed business. Where is all the money? Sure they are spending it on jobs (government employees) but where is the rest? If you gave each legal citizen about 500.000 then you would have only spent 1 trillion and if you taxed it at 50% everyone would have paid off all debt and the government would have only dished out 500 billion.Jobs would be created we wouldnt have homeless vets living in boxes. The economy would be at full swing. I dont get it where is the money?

    • Al Sieber

dan, I think after a trillion comes a Quintillion, there isn’t a calculator or computer with that many zeros. that’s what happened in parts of Europe after WW2, hyperinflation big time and it’s headed this way.

      • alpha-lemming

??? quadrillion and then quintillion ???

      • Al Sieber

alpha, that could be it, anyways, that’s a lot of zeros.

      • Denniso

The federal gov’t budget is not like a familiy, city, or state budget, all 3 of which have to be balanced. The federal gov’t can and very often does run for yrs on a deficit, and in times of recession should run a deficit if needed to stimulate the flat economy. Almost ALL economists agree on this.

Without all the gov’t spending now in this largest collapse since ’29,
we would be in a full blown global depression. Spending that includes
keeping all the gov’t workers employed at all levels of gov’t,as well as gov’t contracts for thousands of private companies. Spending like paying the salaries for the military…soldiers, cooks, clerks, truck drivers, medics, mechanics,Generals, and again, all the military contracts for supplies, gasoline, bullets, tanks, planes, etc…

Sure, take away all the gov’t spending and watch us become a 3rd world country over night. Then you’ll have something to whine about.

      • Michael J.

I beleive the word you are looking for is “Obamillion”

      • DaveH

“Almost ALL economists agree on this”. Yeah, right. Only the bought and paid for economists agree on that. A well-known fact is that almost all Liberals fabricate facts to support their propaganda.
If Big Government spending was the solution, there would be no poor countries. Any ignorant leaders can tax and spend.
Keynesian economics were disproven soundly during the Carter administration. Now 30 years later, the Liberals have forgotten that lesson. Does it make sense that if a person, a family, a state, or a country can’t live within their means now, that they will be able to have a better life later when they not only have the former costs to deal with, but now have to add debt payments to that burden? Only Hopers and Dreamers can not grasp that reality.

I see ole Denniso is back at it again: “Sure, take away all the gov’t spending and watch us become a 3rd world country over night. Then you’ll have something to whine about.”

Boy that makes sense!!! You seem to be about 180 degress out of phase. Yep, if we don’t keep printing and spending TRILIONS to keep all these government workers employed, I guest we are going to become a 3rd world country! SMAAAARTTT!!! Only from a progressive, with a degree in economics, could possibly make such a foolish statement.

I guess that means, prior to this bloated federal workforce, with pay scales that double WE THE PEOPLE’s, we were a 3rd world country????

What is unbelievable to me is the fact that we are wasting our time even having this conversation. Printing and spending money to get out of debt are mutually exclusive and only a progressive would attempt to defend this stupidity.

As far as 3rd world status? Give these progressive-marxist a few more years in power and you fill get it. Plain and Simple! Comrades!

      • Jeff

The Myth of the Scandinavian Model…why are the Scandinavian countries doing such a bad job, despite their Protestant work ethic and devotion to duty? The main cause is the essence of the nanny state: its very high tax level. Between 1990 and 2005 the average overall tax burden was 55% in Finland, 58% in Denmark and 61% in Sweden. This is almost one and a half times the OECD average.
Together with Italy, these three Scandinavian countries are the worst performing economies in the entire European Union.

Ireland surpasses all other EU members in prosperity, job creation, social expenditure and productivity per working hour.

Ireland has proved that a substantial lowering of the taxation level can become the motor for launching even the most slackish economy into full gear. A drastic reduction of the Irish tax rate, from 53% in 1986 to its current 35% , has led to a continuous boom of wealth creation at an average rate of 5.6% during the past two decades, while the number of jobs has grown by over 50%. In barely 18 years Ireland jumped from the 22nd to the 4th place in the OECD prosperity ranking.

One crucial element of the Irish model is its “fair tax” system, in which there is less emphasis on taxing labour and profit and slightly more on taxing consumption. This balance between direct and indirect taxation motivates labourers and entrepreneurs to make productive contributions. It stimulates new initiatives and guarantees a high degree of participation.

Sorry, Fighter, but tariffs and other forms of Protectionism (Smoot-Hawley) were a big contributor to the Great Depression. Protecting companies from competition is little different than protecting individuals from failure. Both encourage sloth.
There is one thing and one thing only that is destroying our economy. It isn’t China; it’s Big Government.

      • Anthony

DaveH is correct. Protectionism was also the root cause for the American Civil War.

    • HFlashman

      Dan….

You speak as if what pres. Obama inherited was a normal recessionary period. OK…sit back. You had unemployed increasing in the 500,000 range. Credit was shut off to consumers and business. GNP was faling like a rock, the auto industry (100,000′s of jobs) was ready to go under, banks and financial institutions were disappearing, TARP I funds were given away and there was nothing coming back from that debacle, health insurance costs were skyrocketing and millions were being dropped as they lost their job, housing was dead as home values were falling 50% in some areas, energy costs were going up, two wars were draining our economy, the dollar was dropping like a rock, Europe was in an economic freefall, and China was buying our debt by the billions..

      OK…what would you have done?

      Today …

      1. Banks are stablized and TARP II is making us money.
      2. The AMERICAN auto industry is sound, well situated, growing in employed, and we’ve made a ton of $$ on that deal as the loans are being repaid and the stock being bought back
      3. We are now in a positive employment growth as far as numbers being added, the public sector employment is dropping while the private sector numbers increasing,
      4. Home values have stabilized
      5. Health care costs are levelling off except with the deals cut with the GOP to allow us to be raped a while longer by the insurance oligarchy
      6. Credit is slowly coming back to be made available (except for Small Business which has been gutted by the GOP saying “no” until the Big Boys are allowed to pig out and take any monies available for the truly small businesses)
      7. Energy is stable
      8. We’re out of one war and beating them up on the other
      9. NO successful terrorist attacks
      10. Education reform is on the way (thank gawd because the debacle known as No Child Left behind was a raging success…federalized the schools and left all children behind)

And yet…you scream about the current situation.

Be specific…you say cut government spending? What would you cut? Go ahead…and BTW, what would your cuts affect both short term and long term (economically, employment, and competitive marketplace wise).

      My bet?

No one here will answer this. Because when harsh reality replaces 7th grade mentality it’s apparent this admin has done a lot to halt our decline and set us back on course. Yes..there is waste..but not to the extent the wacked Right (exemplified by your post) like to yell and foam about. And no one has said the deficits are sustainable nor warranted…except the GOP which wants to INCREASE the deficit by giving 2% of the people a massive tax break and nail another $600 billion per year to the deficit.

      OK

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

HFlashman.. You do like to spin, don’t you? Most of what you said should be taken with a grain of salt. At best, they were half-truths. I know. I shouldn’t respond to you because it only encourages you to start on another rant, but you are looking through rose colored glasses and not seeing the clear picture.

      • Joyce from Loris

My favorite part was “NO successful terrorist attacks”. That’s something, huh? I guess terrorist attacks like the one in Ft. Hood, that killed and maned all those soldiers doesn’t count?

      • HFlashman

So if someone goes “postal” or some nutcase shoots someone or runs them down … that’s a terrorist attack? Whoa … hokayyyyy

      • DaveH

Some nutcase? He wasn’t a terrorist?
Let’s see. He was Muslim. He was shouting “Allahu Akbar!” (Allah is the greatest).
Internal Army reports indicate officers within the Army were aware of Hasan’s tendencies toward radical Islam since 2005.
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Hood_shooting

You have further weakened your credibility with that one, Flash.

      • Vicki

HFlashman’s credibility is 0. How is he going to weaken it from there?

      • http://naver samurai

HFlashman is a great man in his own mind. So much lib rhetoric!

      • HFlashman

LOL … can’t answer the hard question or bring yourself to mebaressment and try to point out what you imagine are errors in my post eh?

      • DaveH

Flashman says “We are now in a positive employment growth as far as numbers being added, the public sector employment is dropping while the private sector numbers increasing”.
        So, let’s analyze the situation.
In January of 2009 the employment numbers (non-farm) were 133.5 million. In August of 2010 the employment numbers (non-farm, preliminary) were 130.3 million. A net loss of 3.2 million employees.
In January of 2009 the National Debt $10.6 Trillion. The National Debt is currently $13.5 Trillion. That is a net gain of $2.9 Trillion that we now owe. That is about $8,800 for every man, woman, and child in this country.
So, we have lost 3.2 million employees since January 2009, and it only cost us $2.9 Trillion in extra debt? Only a Liberal could call that money well-spent.

      • DaveH

This is too funny, Flashman. Your very first point:
“1. Banks are stablized and TARP II is making us money.”

Too bad the news can’t cooperate with your fabricated facts, Flashman:
        http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/sns-ap-us-bank-closures,0,6099722.story

      • Denniso

DaveH can’t imagine that the recession would be a great depression w/o the bailouts and stimulus? No, you can’t prove it either way because we’re not going to go back in time and try another approach to the collapse. But, some of us can remember the panic and freefall
of the economy in early ’09 and can project that the spiral down would have continued w/o gov’t help. Are we pleased that the financial
sector that pays it’s fatcats several million $ in salary had to be rescued by us the taxpayers? Hell no! But it had to be done to stop the snowball heading downhill and it’s benefited all of us w/ a stable economy and stock market and recovered investments and pension value.

      • DaveH

So tell me, Denniso, how bailing out the people, who mismanaged the money in the first place, so that they survive to continue competing against the people that did the right things, is going to help the economy? The message there is that it does no good to work hard and make the right choices because the Liberals are going to take your money and give it to the people who didn’t work hard and didn’t make the right choices. And you think that will make a good economy?
Would you, Denniso, rehire a money-manager who lost your money? Apparently you would.

      • denniso

It should be obvious to you since you feign some knowledge of economics…our capitalist system is built upon a financial sector that is integral to commerce, consumption, manufacturing…if the financial sector fails, including good old banks, then our entire economy breaks down. It isn’t as simple as letting a few banks fail, that happens every day in normal times,it’s allowing a collapse of the system that then affects absolutely everyone…not just the additional unemployed we have now.

      • DaveH

It is you, Denniso, that “feigns” a knowledge of economics.
Just as a gangrenous limb needs to be removed to prevent harm to the rest of the body, so do inefficiently run companies need to be left to fail to prevent harm to the rest of the economy. When a company fails it doesn’t just vaporize. Rather its viable assets are bought up and nurtured by other companies, which companies are run by people that do the right things instead of the wrong things. When, instead, the losers are bailed out they just go on to make more wrong decisions and cost the economy more money.
It’s obvious from your comments, Denniso, that you don’t have a clue about economic reality.

      • Denniso

Think a little rather than just rant…in normal times businesses fail
and life goes on,happens all the time. This collapse was not normal,if you recall. We hadn’t had a crash this big since ’29. When a
crash occurs the economy shrinks a bit. When the crash is large enough
there is a domino effect and a panic can develop,as in ’29, and as was
happening w/ this latest collapse. The gov’t stepped in to halt the panic and downward spiral that could continue until a depression resulted.

That’s why, most credible economists backed what the gov’t of Bush as well as Obama did. It worked…we are stable, the market is way up and the cost was affordable. Much of the deficits is the result of lower tax revenues because of the recession.

      • HFlashman

Ok…what are your perceived ‘half truths” ?

BTW…note that no one can asnwer the end question. Avoidance ofr reality is what is occurring. Even your post…you avoid the question and claim, without substantiation, “half truths”.

OK I’m calling you on it. What are “half truths” in my post?

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

HFlashman… Each point you made was a half truth. If I was in charge, which I will never be, but if I was, I couldn’t do a worse job than our current administration, I would abolish the IRS and enact the Fair Tax. I would not allow the ‘lumping of bills together’ and each issue would be a separate bill. Those people that were working for the IRS could now begin to monitor government give away programs. I would break the unions. Congress would have to disclose all tax monies they spend. Congress would have to disclose all lobbyists incentives. I wouldn’t bail out another company. The list could go on and on. I really don’t expect you to comprehend common sense, but thought I would give it a shot anyway!

      • HFlashman

That’s what you would have done coming into office facing that situation eh? And…anyone care to proffer up what the resulting economic situation would have been?

You would have told each auto worker and those that rely on the auto industry for jobs…go to hell. You would have allowed the financial credit squeeze to kill business, you would have let the dollar continue in free fall. OK…and you would have killed unions, wiped out the IRs, enacted a Flat Tax…right away.

Doesn’t matter that the vast majority of Americans would disagree with your propsals…you’d be a dictator and force Congress to enact that legislation while the house is falling down? So much for love of country and patriotism … you’ve just announced you support the ame goal as terrorists..the destruction of our Nation.

So we have established one thing…you have no idea what you’re talking about. A 7th grade generality applied to the real world doesn’t work.

      • DaveH

No, Flashman, she would have let GM either fail or correct its mistaken policies that led up to its collapse. A large part of GM’s failures were the result of Union extravagance and extortion. So, the Liberal answer was to screw the people who trusted their money with GM (the Bondholders), reward those Unions that largely contributed to GM’s lack of competitiveness, and further impoverish the taxpayers who had nothing to do with GM’s mismanagement. Sure, that helps the country. NOT!
We all know that Liberal hearts bleed with other peoples’ money. Keep reminding us of that, Flashman, so we don’t forget.

      • Dick Gazinia

        Dave H-

Some of GM’s problems were the result of deals with the unions, but there was a time when GM was doing great with that same union labor. The real problem that GM had was poor leadership. They were arrogant toward their customers, incapable of recognizing the need for innovative design to compete with foreign competition. Don’t blame the unions for the old boys in the board room approving designs that any teenager would recognize as weak compared to the competition.

Even today they don’t get it. As a Chevy owner (I do try to buy American) I just got an ad for “loyal customers” including a a listing for a 2010 USED Malibu. The deal was 8.9% interest and $641.00 per month payments… for loyal customers.

At the same time I can buy a NEW BMW for 0.9% interest, free maintenance, and much lower payments. A new Mercedes E class has a 1.9% interest rate and payments of $649 per month.

        What are they thinking?

      • a progressive nightmare

Dick Said…..”Even today they don’t get it. As a Chevy owner (I do try to buy American) I just got an ad for “loyal customers” including a a listing for a 2010 USED Malibu. The deal was 8.9% interest and $641.00 per month payments… for loyal customers.

Well, who is running the company now? I bet flash knows!

      • DaveH

        Dick,
We could jawbone all day long about whether management was the biggest contributor to the collapse or whether Unions were the biggest contributors to the collapse.
The bottom line was that GM was headed for collapse. And the only way to economically prevent that is for all involved with the company to get together and do the right things. If they couldn’t, they should have been left to collapse. That is what makes the Free Market efficient. All the jawboning in the world can’t compare to actual experience. Instead, Obama threw good money (our good money) after bad and postponed the inevitable event for a while.

      • eddie47d

Dave H. If you’re so concerned about the truth why did you automatically go after the unions. We’ve known about GM’s management problem for a couple of decades. Were you pressuring them 20 years ago to get their act together or are you Monday morning quaterbacking? Many of us on the “left” saw the crappy cars coming out of Detroit; and those designs and poor mileage were managements problem. The unions only put together what they were told to ,so they did their job.

      • Patriot

You probably still think the Gas Chambers were a Shower! Your talking points are precious straight out of the Handbook!

We will remember come this November, say it loud and proud! The silent majority will continue to speak, this is just the begining!

      • duggy dugg

have you even looked at the national debt ? look it up ; 13 1/2 trillion! and soaring upward ; the massive problem is : BORROWING BY GOV’T,,, INSTEAD OF ISSUING CURRENCY , TREASUY BORROWS THE MONEY CONGRESS SPENDS ! YOU’RE ON THE HOOK FOR ITS REPAYMENT !

      • Vern

Well flash its obvious your a liberal socialist who would probably vote for hussein again even though he’s an illegal alien whos bent on destroying the constitution and stripping Americans of their rights. Don’t worry that he’s guilty of high treason, you’ll be happy to let bigger and bigger govt. do your thinking for you and control your life. Your probably in favor of amnesty for illegals to, not to worry that their illegal to begin with, you’d give them all a free ride at the American taxpayers expense even though they never contributed a cent in taxes or even had any respect for the flag that feeds them. Just like your muslim president who won’t show any respect for our flag or the people who gave their all so you could sit back and call the tea party racist, Eric Holder is the worst racist in the country next to hussein, but no matter, your a good socilist and will allways believe the lies your told by the liberals. And no, im not a republican, they are just as guilty of putting America in the poor house and loosing respect around the world as the dems. So I won’t even bother to tell you that America was not intended to be a two party state and to vote independent or Libertarian, your heads stuck in the sands of lies and deciepts that the democrates and republicans have been pushing down our throats for the last century while they systematically destroy America for their own personal reasons.

      • S.C.Murf

do you even remember that the dems were in control 2 years before barrack even got elected? All of this is the result of the march to a one world government. America is the military power behind the UN and they need all of us hurting in order for control. A dad that has hungry children will do about anything to see that they are fed. Also the government wont do to much about the drug and alcohol problem that we have in this country because its easier to control a people when they are drunk and drugged up, they can do about anything they want without to much interference. Get ready flashman for the one world gov. Even the leader of iran said this is what they are up to. If that towel head can see it you should to if you would quit looking at everything thru your liberal rose colored glasses

      • Rob

        Nice smack down.

      • eddie47d

What color are your glasses? I think they need alittle windex.

Flashman, this muslim soldier did not “go postal”, OK? He has been connected to terrorist, was committing a crime in the name of Allah. Yea, I would call that a pretty good example of a terrorist attack! Postal, indeed.

      • az wayne

Typical flashman spew. Nothing backed up, all liberal talking points lined up wasting time and screen space. Any halfwit knows the problem started after dems got control of congress 2006, any public education grad understands lower numbers mean LOSS. Nothing this admin and congress has done since stealing all taxpayer money to payoff election debts has helped any citizens. The sad part they are still stealing week after week. Why they haven’t been arrested and put on trial is beyond me. Now watch the rats leave the white house, they think they ‘ve gotten all they need. Make room to bring in new marxists. Great work incompetent.

      • eddie47d

Another great defender of corporates’ lack of moral discretion.Follow the money trail and it will lead you to Wall Street.

      • Donna Hansen

Here is my 7th grade philosophy…My mama taught me that if I don’t have the money to spend…don’t spend it….back then there were no charge cards, no check books…and if you couldn’t afford something, you didn’t buy it…also…if you don’t want to work, there was no bail out…you went hungry… the taxpayers
are the workers…they have families to feed..after their money is gone…who is
Obama gonna go to then? The problem with socialism is you run out of other people’s money.

      • http://yahoo Irene Grooms

YOU MUST BE ONE OF THOSE PROGRESSIVES CAUSE I PAY MORE IN TAXES NOW THAN EVER BEFORE IN MY LIFE TIME. WE NEED THE TAX BREAK THAT BUSH GOT FOR US WE NEED PEOPLE LIKE YOU TO SHUT UP AND SUPPORT US AMERICANS . THE RICH ARE THOSE THAT NEED A TAX BREAK AS WELL AS US. YOU’LL TAX US MORE IN THE COMING YEAR, AND WE NEED TO VOTE YOU OUT THAT DON’T RENEW THIS BILL THAT BUSH HAS IN EFFECT. I BELEIVE IN JUSTICE AND UNDER THIS ADMINSTRATION I DON’T FEEL LIKE WE’RE GETTING ANYTHING BUT A SLAP IN OUR FACE’ES.

Beam me up Scotty. You have not been educated you have been indoctrinated. Wow talk about being out of touch.

        Academic I would guess.

      • Michael J.

        HFlashman,
It’s not that we agree, it’s that most here are not willing to justify your retro regurgitated MSNBC parroted remarks. You seem to excell in obnoxious redundancy, if we want propaganda we can merely tune in to the manufactured mantra of the messiah broadcast unabashedly on huffpo, media matters, etc. etc. to hear the same-o, same-o predictable rhetoric vile enough to make Bear Gryls puke.

      • eddie47d

Dave H.; If the car companies are paying their debt down and repaying the government. Then how is that a loss to our economy? I don’t agree with all the bailouts and some of these companies should have been allowed to fail.Who’s to choose which ones and it was a nail biter for the government to do that. At least admit some of the success’s in the last two years and stop being as stubborn as a mule.

      • DaveH

Any Liberal can fabricate facts, Flashman. How about some references to back up your supposed claims?

      • ALWAYS RIGHT

        HFlashman
        1. Banks are stablized and TARP II is making us money.
(except the 422 on the edge of collapse right now, as the existing banksters are paying themesleves bonuses with tax $$$ after running their institutions & our economy into the ground)
        2. The AMERICAN auto industry is sound, well situated, growing in employed, and we’ve made a ton of $$ on that deal as the loans are being repaid and the stock being bought back
(as the unions are paying their honchos bonuses with our tax $$$ and using TARP II funds to pay back TARP I funds. Then there’s the issue of the thousands of closed dealerships, most of which were onwed by republicrat supporters, and the hundreds of thousands of workers laid off)
        3. We are now in a positive employment growth as far as numbers being added, the public sector employment is dropping while the private sector numbers increasing,
(What? This is a completely unsupportable LIE!)
        4. Home values have stabilized
(on what planet? they’re still dropping on both coasts where most the people live)
        5. Health care costs are levelling off except with the deals cut with the GOP to allow us to be raped a while longer by the insurance oligarchy
(Hmmm, the GAO doesn’t support your claim. Services will drop and costs go up. You need to lay off the hallucinogens, Flash. Then there’s the issue of the gubmint seizing the entire medical profession in this nation)
        6. Credit is slowly coming back to be made available except for Small Business which has been gutted by the GOP saying “no” until the Big Boys are allowed to pig out and take any monies available for the truly small businesses.
(you mean “big boys” like obama’s union brown shirts and banksters paying themeselves bonuses out of our taxes?)
        7. Energy is stable
(just as stable as is the middle east, since that’s where most our “energy” comes from. Are you saying that the middle east/islamic countries, are “stable”, flash?)
        8. We’re out of one war and beating them up on the other
(just like we were out of Vietnam. Let the slaughter begin!!! PS: We’re NOT “beating them” in Afghanistan. it is like trying to nail jello to a tree on a warm day)
        9. NO successful terrorist attacks
(Does “Ft. Hood” ring a bell there, flash? Wand the only reason the underwear bombed didn’t drop that plane into the city below and the Times Square bomber failed was bad luck on their part. homeland security was a “FAIL!!!!!”)
        10. Education reform is on the way (thank gawd because the debacle known as No Child Left behind was a raging success…federalized the schools and left all children behind)
(More like “no child’s behind left behind” since we’re teaching homosexuality clear down to kindergarten and calling it ‘safety”. The entire problem with the schools in this nation, flash, is liberal, unionized teachers. That is spelled “d-e-m-o-c-r-a-t-s”)

And yet…you scream about the current situation.

Be specific…you say cut government spending? What would you cut?
        1.) Foreign Aid $17,850,000,000 (that’s 17.8 billions)
        2.) AFDC to illegals $65B a year
3.) Incarceration if illegals (instead of deporting) $1.7B a year just for ICE
4.) Cut off Social Security to anybody whose annuanl income is over $60k a year. John McCain doesn’t need SSI.
5.) Stop the wiring of money from the US to foreign soil unless it is first run through a US gubmint accounting agency ($200B to messico alone)
6.) Put a reward on the heads of illegals. Turn in an illegal, get $5k. Arrest, deport & seize 100% of the assets of each one captured since 100% of their assets are “fruits of a crime”. That would save @ $22k a year, ea. let them fight their deportation from foreign soil.
7.) Drill baby, DRILL!. The Bakken fields have more oil than the middle east. That is drilling jobs, refinery jobs, pipeline jobs, trasnportation & sales jobs with all the accompanying white collar jobs to go with them. Best of all, NO money going to our enemies. $$ that says in the US gets turned over time and time again. $$ that leaves the nation is g-o-n-e.

ALWAYS RIGHT… Thanks for going into more detail than I did with Flashman. He really believes the stuff he spews. I knew when I replied to him that it would throw him into a rant. He’s predictable! But, then again most liberals are!

        Today …(s) Fantasy v. Reality

        1. Banks are stablized and TARP II is making us money.

Reality: Only the appearance of stability exists because
the same accounting tricks of failure to “mark to market”
toxic assets, which was what created and sustained the bubble
in the first place, is still in place.

        2. The AMERICAN auto industry is sound, well situated, growing
in employed, and we’ve made a ton of $$ on that deal as the loans
are being repaid and the stock being bought back.

Reality: Ton’s is an interesting standard, paper IS heavy, after all.
        Backward industry, still producing crap……

        3. We are now in a positive employment growth as far as numbers
being added, the public sector employment is dropping while the
        private sector numbers increasing,

Reality: Unemployment claims have increased, and since these reports
are fudged for political reasons, and then re-adjusted, the truth is
worse, so positive spin was not within reach. Hey the recession has
been over for a year…….can you feel it?

        4. Home values have stabilized

Reality: see (1) same reason, but we are now beginning the second wave of foreclosures.

        5. Health care costs are levelling off except with the deals cut
with the GOP to allow us to be raped a while longer by the insurance oligarchy

Reality: Nothing was reformed, but rising costs are now guaranteed,
since coverage is mandatory, as are the profit margins. Increased costs
        mean increased premiums, by law.

        6. Credit is slowly coming back to be made available (except for
Small Business which has been gutted by the GOP saying “no” until
the Big Boys are allowed to pig out and take any monies available
        for the truly small businesses)

Reality: see (1) the bailout allowed those failed firms access
to the FED money at bottom rates. Read The SellOut; Gasparino

        7. Energy is stable

Reality: Yup, plenty of free oil in the Gulf for the taking.

        8. We’re out of one war and beating them up on the other

Reality: Headline: US Troops continue fighting in Iraq as Combat Mission Ends

        9. NO successful terrorist attacks

        Reality: wow, yippee……

        10. Education reform is on the way (thank gawd because the debacle
known as No Child Left behind was a raging success…federalized the
schools and left all children behind)

Reality: As we are Racing to the Top, new study reveals that incentive
pay, produces no significant improvement in student performance. Public
Education is a failed system, as is Higher Education? see book, same name.

SUPER REALITY: The solution to corrupt democrats is not corrupt republicans,
the solution to corrupt republicans is not corrupt democrats.

      • Conservative at Birth

The problem with the ecucational system is two fold: The parents are negligent and the Teachers are Indoctrinators not teachers.

      • DaveH

Patrick and Always Right. Actually, Flashman’s number 3 point was valid as far as it goes. From the BLS website:
        http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm
Also, you need to distinguish between employment numbers and unemployment numbers. They are not the same animal.

But, one month’s worth of economic data does not make a trend, except in the mind of a Liberal.

      • Anthony

The other reality is that Derivatives cannot be touched until 2022. It was in the Obama Financial Package just signed into Law. It protects Wall Street from being toggled down a notch or two by any Adminstration that doesn’t play ball with THE FED.

      • Rob

        ALWAYS RIGHT for president.

      • PO’d Texas gal

        Absolutely brilliant!!!

      • a progressive nightmare

flash, I will be more than happy to respond to your childish foolish claims. It’s easy, you make things up as you go and most folks on this blog have understood that for a long long time. You actually do even worse, which seems to be a typical progressive trait, you only tell half the story and then you leave a large area of blanks to be filled in. It’s like telling a 1/2 truth, which is worse than telling a lie. Again, a progressive-marxist trait. i.e.; propoganda

Obama inherited the pennicle of 100 years of progressive-marxist stupidity. Anyone with half a brain should have understood decades ago where this ship was headed……. Isn’t that what “Progressive” means??? You just “progress” us along until our system and treasury are broken, correct? Does C&P sound familiar to you flash boy? It’s kinda like a cancer, it slowly eats you alive, PAINFULLY. Don;t bitch about something that you people created. It was your plan, you implemented it and now it ain’t working! AND WE UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO US!

What is really FUNNY is that you think that we don’t understand exactly how we got here and what it will take to get us out of this liberal mess, but, unfortuantely for you and your comrades, we do.

let’s see here, ole flashpan said:

Banks are stabilized? Well the banks that deserve to be OPEN right now were stable then, DUMMY! I will give you one example:

BB&T was more than stable, and in fact, refused to take any TARP funds but were called to Washington and FORCED to take it! GOOD OLE PROGRESSIVE MARXISM.

Auto industry making money? Really flash, how much? Oh, you mean the union THUGS are making money because you STOLE from the previuos stock holders! Is that what you are saying flashpan? Are these the same guys that were smoking dope and drinking during lunchbreak yesterday flash? You think my grandchildren are happy about owning a company with pot heads as employees? Fact is, the auto industry is DOOMED not to make a profit due to being run by the government..DUMMY!

I think fannie/freddie, the post office, etc etc etc is enough of failed government programs, don’t you?

Public sector numbers are dropping and private sector jobs are increasing? WHAT???? Are you nuts? I’ll be sure to tell my unemployed neighbors. Maybe that can take their virtual jobs and go out and buy some virtual groceries, just because flashpan said so. In case you haven’t noticed flash, the unemployment rate is still around 10%.

Homes values have stabilized? What area of the country are you from friend? Give us some facts other than just liberal comments. What is the median home value now as it relates to a year ago, two years ago, three years ago. Let’s see some facts flash.

Healthcare costs have leveled off??? Really! Where do you get these “facts” ole flash, I would really like to see them. Please don’t quote dump truck moore or some other lesser intellect.

Credit is doing what? It is slowly coming back to be made available?
Let me see what kind of a response I get to this comment at my next business meeting.

“Energy is stable?” What energy you speaking of? Draw us a time line from “Stable” back to “unstable”. Be sure you take into consideration seasonal factors in your analysis. Let’s see it flash…we’re waiting.
Just progressive statements aren;t going to cut it anymore, we want FACTS.

Out of the war and beating them up on the other side? What the heck does that mean? You mean Obama finally finished what BUSH started with the surge? You mean we are winning the “Other” war? Heck, you been sleeping or something?? The pres, his admin and OUR generals are at each others throats and nobody, I mean nobody, believes that Obama’s war strategy will succeed! How do you translate that into beating people up?

No successful terrorist attacks???? Only because the one’s who tried were STUPID!!! It sure wasn’t anything we did to prevent it!

Education reform is on the way?? GOD help us, another progressive school program. Boy, you folks have been in charge of this mess for decades!!! You can’t fix stupid with STUPID or with DUMB AND DUMBER!

        Specific cuts, since you asked:

1.) Cut the size and scope of the fereral workforce by 50% immediately. Further reductions will follow.

2.) Mandate that all federal workforce pay/benefits do not exceed the MEDIAN VALUE of private sector workers doing the same job function.

3.) Eliminate the department of education and return it to the states and respective local governments.

4.) Dismantel the EPA and start over.

5.) Privatize both Freddie and Fannie immediately. I’m sure we can find a competent CEO that can run a business and make a profit for the shareholders.

6.) REPEAL this DUMB UNCONSTITUTIONAL OBAMACARE LAW!

7.) Housing and welfare programs for the poor need to be returned to the responsibility of the local governments. This is not a federal or state issue.

8.) Mandate that government bailouts are a misuse of public funds therefore it violates public trust. SOUND FAMILIAR?????

I could continue for an hour with basic common sense principles that seems to elude you touch-feely liberals.

Fact is, I have worked with a dozen people over my professional carrier that could balance the budget in less than a year and pay off the total debt in less than five years. BUT! Your answer, do like your progressive hero FDR and compound the problem so our pain will last for DECADES!!

      • a progressive nightmare

dan az…..Right on the ole nail head fellow patriot. I’ve noticed this time and time again. I’m an analyst by nature and some things GLARE at me. Flash is multiple people and a lot of their comments, I think, are cut and paste out of an e-mail, sent to them by a fellow commie-rade. In other words, sometimes he/she appears to be an intellect with a extreme-left bend, other times, I can’t make heads or tails out of his statements, and, it almost looks like a child made the comments. If I’m wrong, then it has to be the THC factor. What else could it possibly be?

      • Angel wanna-be

DAN AZ, I wondered that too, if it was flash that typed that?!__-The only thing I left out was, that the only job increases are, that are in the Government Sector & the Unions, with the addition 16,000 new IRS and additional regulatory committees!__The private sector is scared as hell to hire or expand! There isn’t going to be any new growth in the private sector, until these money hungry suckers are voted the hell outta there!__

      • Jeff

Hey guys and gals, that’s the norm for these liberal hacks that are on the dole just to be on theses websites. Different “paid or volunteer” hackers use the same name but work for the same liberal group…it’s been happening for a long time now.

      • libertytrain

JeffH – I no longer have any doubts that they are paid or unpaid trying to disrupt good and helpful sites like this one. Perhaps it is even more important that we ignore those folks – they are not worthy of our attention.

        dan az,
sure that was flash he was just copying from a teleprompter!!!!

        Hey Joe H
        that makes since !

      • DaveH

If Denniso and Flashman are hired, then somebody is severely wasting their money. Of course, if they are Liberal, that is one thing they are very good at.

      • Jennifer

What state are you in…… the state of delusion ? We in Ohio are basking in the recession that we have been told ended over a year ago. You need to pull your head out of someone’s butt and look at the poor people who are working to support everyone else and losing all they have. I am one of them so don’t spout off how great it is ….. it is no better than it was unless you are in bed with a banker or government official!

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Jennefer,
I,m from just east of Cleveland and I can attest to what you say!!! Mentor is building new facilities while there are too many empty, Eastlake just lost a fifteen million dollar pay roll. That might not seem to be much but when you figure the money they lost from CEI and perry nuke plant, the money they financed to build a stadium they couldn’t afford and it is a lot!!! Painesville is a sanctuary city and it is slowly becoming little Mexico! yet they build a new highschool that the taxpayers cant afford!!! northeast Ohio is faltering badly!!!

      • denniso

Hflashman is right…the economy was in a freefall when Obama came in.
It’s now stable and is slowly but surely recovering…the market up again today, pushing 11,000. Of course we need more jobs, but the economy can’t recover back to the bubble days overnight, how could it, we were in a growing bubble that then burst.

Terrorism? The Ft Hood killings were tragic,as similar episodes every few days around the country are. The guy was a carreer officer who had lived here for decades and had become ‘radicalized’ over the past few yrs. It’s an inside job essentially that can hardly be pinned on Obama. We have thousands of people in the country who can wind up doing the same thing in the future. It’s not like 9/11,luckily, and we can’t totally ensure that those sort of things will not happen.

      • dan az

        denniso
here is a site with the facts check it out and see if you can explain to everyone why it is that you made that statement!

        denniso,
Political Correctness (camoflaged communism)is what enabled the massacre at Ft. Hood. The army new Hasan was becoming a problem but no one was willing to step forward for fear of being accused of racism.

      • Denniso

Now that’s a new idea…political correctness is communism? WOW!! You really are dense. You are right, though, that it was the Army’s fault that they let him remain in the Army and didn’t properly monitor or deal w/ him. If they were cowards and as trained soldiers who are taught to kill and be killed, they were ‘afraid’ of being called racists, well that’s a pathetic excuse.

      • http://guy@reogiant.com guyb

Hflashman—- You have some pretty hard dope there. Keep smoking and toot’in and come back after you wake up….

      • dan az

        OK Flash
here are some facts even if you dont like them they are still the facts!
        * It took the country from George Washington until Ronald Reagan—approximately 200 years—to reach the first $1 trillion in debt.
        * When politicians talk about reducing the deficit, they are not talking about the debt. Politicians driven by short-term election goals focus on short-term problems. For example, President Bush once told us the problem was shrinking, pointing to the annual federal budget deficit, which fell from a high of $413 billion in fiscal 2004 to about $163 billion in fiscal 2007. The debt, meanwhile, continues to skyrocket.
        * All of the taxes you pay, including Social Security, are used for today’s government services and benefits, not saved for the future.
        * According to the government’s Office of Management and Budget, “there are no economic assets in the Social Security trust fund.”
        * According to the Government Accountability Office, if spending on government retirement programs remains on its current course and revenues grow at their historical averages, interest on the debt could skyrocket from its current 9 percent to almost 30 percent of the budget by 2040.
        * Fed Chairman Ben Bernake has stated that the time to solve this problem was “ten years ago.” Meanwhile, Congressional Quarterly reports that a delay of even 10 years in solving this will double the required pain to solve it.
        * We are now considering making the nation’s fiscal problems much worse by expanding entitlements and bail-outs. Fiscal 2009 will add more than a trillion dollars to the federal debt via deficit spending and as much as another five trillion in unfunded liabilities.

Dan, Of all the times I’ve seen the “New World Order” mentioned, I’ve never seen any explanation of it. What would be your definition?

      • duggy dugg

        new world order = dictatorship ; big money boys in charge ;bankers and ceo’s owning everything of importance ; telling you what you can and can’t have ; the first step is to globalize money ; destroy dollars ; sheckels; marks ; rubles ; pesos etc ; replace them with creds [ creditos] ;

total control of media including this one ; brain washing news programs ; stupid giggle …tee hee tv to pacify you ; gps [ global police state ]

how ? gradualism ; you already see some of this in practice now ; hellery supports international gun ban …..

      • S.C.Murf

right on the money bud. Thanks

      • dan az

        James
No one really knows all that will happen except for the ones behind the curtain. But the first thing is that they will tear up the constitution and bill of rights when they lift the borders. We all become slaves to the elite even the liberals will have to work for a living well thats not a bad thing but the world will be in a depression that makes slaves of us for the pittance that we will have to live on.Just look at whats going on in Europe now that they where forced into it.This is a free country for now and I will die fighting for it along with every patriot out there this is Gods country and no dictator is going to control our God given rights that we have fought and died for.Im sure that there are allot more people out there that can write and express it way better than I could ever try to.So let them explain it because they are more expearianced at it!

      • Angel wanna-be

James, start with the Rothschilds and research from there__like the rest of us!

      • dan az

        James
you asked me what is the nwo well here is an agenda that may or may not make you think about what is in play as we speak.
        * Place our agents and helpers everywhere
        * Take control of the media and use it in propaganda for our plans
        * Start fights between different races, classes and religions
        * Use bribery, threats and blackmail to get our way
        * Use Freemasonic Lodges to attract potential public officials
        * Appeal to successful people’s egos
        * Appoint puppet leaders who can be controlled by blackmail
        * Replace royal rule with socialist rule, then communism, then despotism
        * Abolish all rights and freedoms, except the right of force by us
        * Sacrifice people (including Jews sometimes) when necessary
        * Eliminate religion; replace it with science and materialism
        * Control the education system to spread deception and destroy intellect
        * Rewrite history to our benefit
        * Create entertaining distractions
        * Corrupt minds with filth and perversion
        * Encourage people to spy on one another
        * Keep the masses in poverty and perpetual labor
        * Take possession of all wealth, property and (especially) gold
        * Use gold to manipulate the markets, cause depressions etc.
        * Introduce a progressive tax on wealth
        * Replace sound investment with speculation
        * Make long-term interest-bearing loans to governments
        * Give bad advice to governments and everyone else

    • Beans

The jobs are all government jobs Big Government and the number should be ZILLION, thats just before ZIPPO, becase thats what will be left.

    • duggy dugg

DAN the problem is gov’t borrows its operating funds intead of printing its own ; gov’t borrows money from the fraudulent fed , a non-government agency plus interest ! that’s why we are in trouble !

    • duggy dugg

      the economy is a shell game ; the fed was created by banks ; they wrote the law and sneaked it thru congress and had woody wilson sign it in exchange for financing his campaign ; the ngo “fed” creates money from nowhere and loans it to congress to gush on foreign aid ; war ; bailouts ; stimulus pkg’s ; running gov’t in general ;

how long can any entity last just borrowing ? income taxes pay just he interest on the debt …you can’t borrow your way out of debt…

    • refuse2lose

If someone has to be told that IT’S THE SPENDING, then I think they probably haven’t been paying attention to that familiar sound that has become popular since 08….. it sounds like CHA CHING

    • Carole Howell

Well if I was Obama, I would just do as Bush did, not paying for anything and leave the bill for the next president, Bush did not pay for anything, Ask Senator Hatch of Utah, a republican. He was there and he will tell you, Bush paid for nothing, left the bills for the next president.

This appears to have worked for Bush.

    • http://guy@reogiant.com guyb

      Dan,you are soooooo right….

      • dan az

        guyb
thanks I may not express it well but its my opinion.

    • http://FarTooMuch.Info Russ Lemon

Much of the stimulus is going overseas. Obama is fulfilling the dream of his father, to redistribute national wealth. His father’s dream was for all nations to be equal. This the massive movement of U.S. wealth to third world nations. Go to http://www.Forbes.com/ and read the article:

      How Obama Thinks by
      Dinesh D’Souza, 09.09.10, 05:40 PM EDT
Forbes Magazine dated September 27, 2010

Then you will know where much of the money went. As far as I know, no stimulus went to any non-union U.S. manufacturer.

    • Granny Mae

I can tell you where some of the money is. It is hidden in lavish retirement accounts for our congressmen and women and the representitives in the house. Then you come down to the Unions so they could bail out their massive retirement accounts, That the rest of us I might add are paying for, but no-one is bailing out my retirement account that is loosing more and more all the time ! It’s going for child support and medical coverage for children with dead-beat mom’s and dad’s. The supporting parent can’t live on his or her meger paycheck so they have to apply for food satamps and medicaid and housing and anything else they can get. Some of these dead-beat parents are in prison for one thing or another and so we not only take care of their kids but we have to take care of them also ! I really like Sherrif Joe, we need more like him ! A lot of our money is going to support children with handicaps ! Not that I am against helping them but I am sure against giving them an excuse to use the system, such as- My exiboss had a daughter that got measles when she was real young and it caused her to loos her hearing. The government paid for her to go to special schools for the hearing impaired and supplied her with every thing she needed for functioning in a hearing atmosphere, like special alarm clocks and TDY phones etc. She grew up and was trained to be able to work in the normal work place and even had a job at Sears. She met a young man and got pregnant and they decided to live together not get married because if she married him she would have to give up her SSI and government aid when if they just lived together her pregnancy would be paid for and she could continue to draw for her child instead of getting married and taking their own responsibility. You and I supported her and her kid or kids , however many there may be by now ! This goes on everyday and we are not talking about illegals here! These are Americans citizens that have learned to use the system. They have learned to use you and me ! They are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves but why should they when they can use us and there is no-one to over see the programs they are on ? We have plenty of welfare programs out there and still we keep adding more and more and no-one is looking to see who really needs them and who doesn’t, nor does anyone limit the length of time they can be used. How about unemployment? There we are extending unemployment over and over to the point that newly unemployed cannot get on it or get even a moments help and yet there are people on unemployment that have been recieving for over a year and they won’t go look for a job because they would have to take a job that pays them less they would be drawing on unemployment. They won’t take less so someone else can at least get something ! So much for Obama’s out look and preaching about everyone getting a piece of the pie !!! Illegals get the jobs because our people won’t work for the low wages and the employer won’t increase his pay scale to make it so that Americans can live on what they earn ! Obama is breading a complete society of people that live on hand-outs from the government, that way he can assure they will vote his way when the time comes. He already did that in this last presidential election. We need to start going over all the programs already on the books and trimming them down and get rid of them altogether. People need to learn to rely on themselves. We know that everyone of us is getting older and we are going to need money to live on when we reach the time when we can no longer work so it is up to us to put away for that time and stop thinking of letting the government take care of us ! We need to stop hospitals from over charging us when we need their care so they can cover the next guy that doesn’t have coverage ! I know of a middle aged man that has never paid a hospital bill in his life and still when he has an emergency he goes to the emergency room and gets taken care of ! That is costing you and I lots of money. We could use a break from that kind of tax ! The unseen tax ! Insurance companies are right up there with them. They could come to our defense and save themselves a lot of money also but they don’t they just sit back and let it happen and watch us struggle ! Pharmasuitacle companies too ! They n9ot only give us drugs that cost so much money it would choke an ox but today they are giving us meds. that kill us ! What is up with that ? They say they can’t lowere the price of the drugs because it has cost them so much money to develope the drugs they have to recoop their costs ! WHAT COST ? They get government grants and programs to develope those drugs and the fat cats are getting fatter while you and I sit back here and keep paying through the nose for the meds we need. All these drugs are available in other countries for a lot less than we pay for them, and don’t give me this old story about the drugs are tainted from China or Tiwan! What about the drugs coming from cananda of Great Britian, or Switzerland or Germany etc.? We have been paying billions of dollars for a cancer cure for the last 60 years and we are no closer to one today than we were then ! Where is all that money going? I understand there are cures out there but they can’t be pattended so they will never make it on the market ! How does that feel in your pocket book ? This kind of crap is only the tip of the iceburg and both parties are responsible for it ! I don’t see either party really getting the picture ! I bet is you reading this would just sit down and think for a few minutes you could come up with a list longer than mine of ways you know the system is being misused and to tell you the truth my friends if we don’t find some way to fix this it is all lost! There are ways to cut spending but none of them will bring votes to the politician looking to get elected because they are going to hurt, you and me but they are steps that have to be done ! I do a lot of cutting back on costs in my home budget but I’m sure if I had too I could do some more. It wouldn’t be easy but it could be done ! The thing is once these cuts are made after a while we will find that it won’t be so bad. All these free loaders will either go home where they belong or start looking for jobs and families will stick together to make it through the tuff times. I am sure there are a lot of you out there that could even start your own business. You know who you are. All those years that you kept saying you would like to set up such and such kind of a business but then you don’t because you don’t have enough self confedence ! Your SMART. You got what it takes so do it ! It will never succeed if you don’t try. There is no disgrace in failure, it only means you had guts enough to try and if you keep trying you will succeed !

Sorry about running off like this, but boy we have all got to start doing something even if it is to invest in the ideas of someone else and encourage them to work hard and succeed. We need to take back our country !

      • dan az

        Hey Granny
