Do You Really Know The Constitution?

September 17, 2010 by

Do You Really Know The Constitution?

Today is Constitution Day — a day specifically designated by an Act of Congress when Americans are supposed to honor the remarkable document that created our system of government. The date was chosen because the Constitution was approved at the original Constitutional Convention on Sept. 17, 1787.

The act that created Constitution Day mandates that all publicly-funded educational institutions provide educational programming on the history of the American Constitution on that day. Let’s see how well the schools have done their job.

Ask a recent high school or college graduate to take the following brief quiz. I’ll be interested to hear how many of the 20 questions he or she answers correctly.

And be sure to take the quiz yourself. Even if you score 100 percent, it’s good to be reminded of some of the fundamental principles upon which our country was founded. The quiz was compiled by an old friend, John McManus, who is president of the John Birch Society. Thanks, John, for permission to share this with my readers today.

  1. Has the Constitution always guided our country?
  2. What are the three branches of government named in the Constitution?
  3. Does the Constitution allow the Supreme Court to make law?
  4. Does the Constitution empower the President to make law?
  5. Does the Constitution give the Federal government any power in the field of education?
  6. Where in the Constitution is there authorization to dispense foreign aid?
  7. Did the Constitution give the Federal government power to create a bank?
  8. Can the provisions of a treaty supersede the Constitution?
  9. Does the Constitution allow a President to take the nation into war?
  10. Can you name any of the four crimes mentioned in the Constitution?
  11. Should the Bill of Rights be considered part of the original Constitution?
  12. According to the Constitution, how can a President and other national officers be removed from office?
  13. How many amendments have been added to the Constitution?
  14. How is an amendment added to the Constitution?
  15. Does the Constitution say anything about illegal immigration?
  16. Is the term of a President limited by the Constitution?
  17. Which part of the Federal government holds “the power of the purse”?
  18. Does the Constitution provide a method for expelling a member of Congress?
  19. How many times is the word “democracy” mentioned in the Constitution?
  20. Does the Bill of Rights grant the people free speech, freedom of the press, the right to possess a weapon, etc?

It wasn’t as easy as you thought it would be, was it? Here are the answers, also as provided by McManus.

  1. No. Originally the nation functioned under the Continental Congress and the Articles of Confederation. Eleven years after the Declaration of Independence the Constitution was written, agreed to and sent to the states for ratification. When ratified by nine states (as the document itself prescribed), the Constitution was declared to be the new governmental system. That occurred on Sept. 13, 1788. The new government was ordered to be convened on March 4, 1789.
  2. Legislative, Executive and Judicial.
  3. No. The very first sentence in the Constitution states: "All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States….” Any Supreme Court decision is the law of the case that binds only the plaintiff and the defendant. The meaning of the word “all” has not been changed.
  4. No. Executive Orders issued by the President that bind the entire nation are illicit because, as noted above, “All legislative powers” are possessed by Congress. An Executive Order that binds only the employees of the Federal government (such as granting a holiday) is proper because the President should be considered to be the holder of power much like that possessed by the CEO of a company. But the entire nation is not in the employ of the President.

The President does have a role in lawmaking with his possession of a veto. He can veto a measure approved by Congress (which can be overturned by a two-thirds vote in each house of Congress), or simply allow it to become law by doing nothing within 10 days, “Sundays excepted.”

  5. No. The Constitution contains no mention of any power “herein granted” in the field of education.
  6. No such authorization appears in the Constitution.
  7. No. Congress was granted power to “coin money,” meaning it was to have the right to create a mint where precious metal could be stamped into coinage of fixed size, weight and purity. There is no Constitutional authority for the Federal government to have created the Federal Reserve.
  8. Absolutely not. Thomas Jefferson responded to those who consider treaty-making power to be “boundless” by stating, “If it is, then we have no Constitution.”
  9. It does not. The sole power to declare the nation at war is possessed by Congress. Congress last used this power at the beginning of World War II, when war was declared on Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor. (Germany declared war on the U.S. the next day.) A congressional vote to authorize the President to enforce United Nations Security Council resolutions should never be considered a substitute for a formal declaration of war.
  10. The four crimes mentioned are: Treason, bribery, piracy and counterfeiting.
  11. Many do hold that view because if the promise to add a Bill of Rights had not been made during the ratification process, some states would not have ratified the Constitution.
  12. The President and other high officers of the Federal government can be impeached by a majority in the House and tried by the Senate. Impeachment does not constitute removal; it should be considered the equivalent of an indictment that must be followed by a trial. Two-thirds of the Senators “present” must approve removal at the subsequent trial to effect removal.
  13. There are 27. The first 10 (the Bill of Rights) can be considered part of the original Constitution. Amendment 18 was repealed by Amendment 21. This means that, in 223 years, only 15 other amendments have been added. The process was deliberately made difficult to keep anything dangerous or silly from being added to the Constitution in the heat of passion.
  14. Congress can propose an amendment when two-thirds of both Houses of Congress vote to do so. Any proposed amendment must then by ratified by the legislature or a convention in three-quarters of the States. Amendments can also be proposed by a Federal Constitutional convention called by two-thirds of the States. Any amendment arising from a Constitutional convention must also be ratified by the legislature or a convention in three-quarters of the states.
  15. Not directly. But Article IV, Section 4 assigns to the Federal government the duty “to protect each of them [the States] from invasion.” It does not specify that the invasion must be military. When 12 million people enter our nation illegally, it is an invasion that should be repelled by the Federal government.
  16. Yes. In 1951, Amendment 22 was added to the Constitution to limit any President to two terms. The only President who served longer than two terms was Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who held office during a fourth four-year term. He died in April 1945 shortly after beginning his 13th year in office.
  17. The House of Representatives. Article I, Section 7 states: “All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives….” If a majority in the House (218 of its 435 members) refuses to originate a bill to raise revenue for something, then no funds can be spent on that activity.
  18. Two-thirds of each House has the authority to expel any of its members for cause even though the member has been elected by voters.
  19. The word “democracy” does not appear in the Constitution. Our nation is a Constitutional Republic, not a Democracy. The Founders feared Democracy (unrestricted rule by majority) and favored a Republic (rule of law where the law limits the government). James Madison wrote: “…. Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.”
  20. No. The Declaration of Independence, which provides the philosophical base of our nation, states very clearly that our rights are granted to us by our Creator. The various rights noted in the Bill of Rights were not granted by government. The purpose of the Bill of Rights is to prevent the Federal government from suspending any of those God-given rights, including the right to possess a weapon. Those who claim “Second Amendment rights,” for instance, make a big mistake with such a statement. If the right is granted by the Second Amendment, meaning by government, it can be taken away by government. If the right is granted by God, only He can take it away.

While every politician pays lip service to the Constitution (the President, Vice President, and every member of Congress take an oath to “preserve and protect” it), the sad truth is that vast majority of actions taken by the Federal government are not authorized by the Constitution.

I have heard it said that, if the Constitution were fully and honestly enforced today, the Federal government would be 20 percent of its present size and would cost 20 percent of its present budget. I think those numbers are an exaggeration; I suspect the truth would be closer to 10 percent.

Just imagine: No foreign aid, no Departments of Education, Housing, Health, Agriculture or Homeland Security. No commissions, bureaucratic monstrosities or other meddlesome agencies that “harass our people and eat out their substance.” (That’s an actual indictment of King George from the Declaration of Independence.)

What would this country be like if the Constitution were fully and honestly enforced? I hope some day we’ll find out.

Until next time, keep some powder dry.

What I want to know is what are we going to do about whats been happening to our country.Spouting off online gets us nowhere. Both political parties are not representing the people. They’re only interested in their power and stuffing their pockets. Our sovreignty is being slowly stripped away.We need to clean out the schools and universities of all the limp wristed leftist liberals and aetheists who have been poisoning our children for decades now.We need to withdraw from the UN and kick them out of our country. We need to set term limits on all political offices,,local and big branches. We need to upset the apple cart and vote out almost all incumbents in both parties. We need to unite because they’re happy the nation is so divided. We need to shut off the tv’s and video games and start focusing on our families..the family unit needs to be strong to counter the Muslim and gay threats.

    • tg7357

And this is where its time for the rise of a legitimate, strong 3rd party to hold the other two parties in check. If the Idnependents were smart and better organized, this could be their open door to becoming a real power in government right now.

      • slickporsche

I agree with a new and in power party, but only one party. The other two need to vaporize.

    • Tallcharlie

The French would suggest the guillotine. In the US, traditionally such problems are resolved on the gibbet. One mile of rope and 545 lampposts on Constitutin Avenue would go a long way towards sending the proper message to the Federal government.

      Just joking, of course.

      • tg7357

Don’t even have to do that: 19 states and the District of Columbia have state constituional amendments that allow the recall of elected representatives to the federal congress and senate for cause, and outside of election years. Most states require a petition process to the governor of the state. Oklahoma, Kansas, California, Michigan, Maine, Missouri are just some of the states that allows this. This is where state Tea Parties should have gotten candidates they wanted out of office (Nanci Pelosi for example) instead of fooling around waiting for this year’s elections.

John, spouting off does get you somewhere!!!__Look here, listen to Fox news, limbaugh , hannity, Beck AND ON AND ON__these people report what they’ hear on these blogs, how do you think they get a LOT of they’re info, besides they’re hired researchers?__C’mon now, Just because you don’t see alot progressives posting on here (one is too many for my book) doesn’t mean they are not BROWSING THE COMMENTS?!__Believe you me the progressives know the masses are p*ssed!

      John,
Why do you attack me, just because I don’t believe in an entity that I can neither see, smell, touch, taste, or hear? Please leave the non-believers out of your tirades. I don’t interfere with your beliefs. Don’t interfere with mine.

As far as the current regime is concerned, the Constituiton is just another framed decoration on the walls of Cngress and a nuisance when it comes to their agenda.

  • Roberto

Following the constitution 100% with only beneficial consequences requires several presuppositions, none of which are true.
    1) That people will always do the right thing
    2) That people will always act in their own best long-term interest
    3) That there is absolutely no separation between public and private behavior, or 100% separation.

It has been said, and I believe, that 10% of people will always do the right thing, and 10% will always do the wrong thing, with the remaining 80% somewhere in the middle, depending on the particular issue, their moral character, and the opportunity/temptation presented.

Leaving people entirely to their own devices and decisions will ultimately lead to an uneducated, poverty stricken mob controlled by a wealthy elite. What we have to come to terms with is that there will ever be a tension between public and private freedoms, a secular way of looking at the separation of church and state. Every “Thou shalt not” or “Thou must” requires the resources of the government through stolen funds (ie taxation) to enforce it. The best way to use government is to lead, urge, and I would say to a LIMITED extent, reward (not coerce) people to make individual choices that collectively add up to a stable society with minimal, manageable unrest, that allows people the freedom to totally screw up their lives if they choose, but does not make it the path of least resistance.

Do away with grade levels in school, replace them with competency exams. If you can demonstrate mastery of the subject at a particular level, you can move the the next. Classes are based not on age, but on the level of competency in a particular subject being sought.

Do way with Social Security (once the commitment to anyone over the age of say, 35, has been met.) For people who save 20% of their income for their future, that money is 100% tax exempt, unless they take it out of the investment prematurely, than they are whacked big time. Those who reach retirement with nothing, well, I don’t think most people could watch them starve, but they should get a bunk in a barracks, and work cleaning public buildings and parks. If people were taught the outcome of not saving and planning for the end of their working lives, they would choose to prepare. Harsh? I think having 40% of my income taken (adding up federal, state, local income taxes, medicare, unemployment, sales tax) and limiting my ability to save for myself is harsh. Remember, if we don’t lead, urge and reward the masses into doing what will benefit them and the larger society long term, we are sowing the seeds for social unrest down the pike, or else for socialism. Laziness and indecision are flaws of the masses, and to ignore that fundamental truth is dangerous. Government needs to be as limited and unobtrusive as possible, and it can only be so by recognizing and utilizing the the laziness and indecision of the masses to curtail itself as much as possible, leaving direct intervention by the courts and the government to a bare minimum.

    Just my thoughts

First I would like to punch you in the face really hard, after which we can talk if you are still able.

      • Average Joe

        slickporsche,
Do we need to buy you a “Does not play well with others” T-shirt?

Save the violence for your government officials…they are more deseving….just a thought.

    • Joyce from Loris

Roberto, you have some good points, but I still think you underestimate the human race. Before the government decided to create welfare, food stamps, etc… ALL people worked. Very few people did not work, those who didn’t, well they just were too lazy to have anything. That is fine, if a person wants nothing in life, they should be allowed to have just that. Nothing. But when you have no one to turn to for a hand out, human nature kicks in and you FIGURE IT OUT FOR YOURSELF! It’s like feeding animals. If you feed them everyday, they forget their natural instincts to hunt. They will starve to death. So, I am all for allowing people to take care of themselves, and yes, it states in the Bible that if a man does not work, he does not eat. That simple. The community churches have always taken care of the people in the communities that were “down on their luck” or dealing with a set back. Charity is temporary. Welfare is NOT charity.

If a State, any State, was to declare a Federal law null and void because it directly contradicted the Constitution – and there are plenty of laws that fit this description – that State would find itself looking down the barrels of Federal rifles in a very short time.

Will the United States ever become a Constitutional Republic? Dream on.

    • tg7357

The states and the Feds have alreay had the argument about nullifying mandates and laws passed by the federal government without approval of the individual states. They called it ‘Nullification’ back in the early 1800′s, and it was a precursor to the Civil War.

      • Tallcharlie

Thanks for the support. Most people don’t realize that.

      • tg7357

If I remember my history right, it was the southern states that were mainly involved in the Nullification issues back then. A lot of it had to do with trade and taxes the North was imposing on Southern agriculture and of course, the slave issue. Since the South didn’t have the manufacuturing that the North did, it was really cutting into the economy and growth of the south.

      • P L

7357; I would change the last part to be more accurate, The South was expanding into manufacturing due to recent discoveries in ore, etc. It would have cut into the growth and economy of the North immensely. As stated by DaveH, The North had to paint it as a slavery issue to go to war, backed by GASP Abraham Lincoln.

      • DaveH

There was a big difference with the Civil War, tg7357. The North had to paint it as a Slavery Issue to get the citizens to agree to the battle. What will they do now to enlist the support of the Citizens? Will they claim a God-Given right to steal our money and ram Unconstitutional Laws down our throats?
And if they did push it to violence, I’m okay with that.

    • slickporsche

Certainly not with your attitude!!!!!!!! If all the states did what you are saying the federal government would not exist. It would short circuit. In addition, the feds would be looking down our rifle barrels and people like you would be running for the nearest cave.

    • bbstacker

Would you expect those “feral” rifles to be the steady held sights of Sovereign Citizens? Would you stretch your mind to think that oboingo-boy is keeping the military offshore so that there can’t be “Defense of the Constitution”? There is that whole “blades of grass” issue that hasn’t simply ceased to exist. When was the Revolutionary War actaully won?

  • alpha-lemming

What an absolutely WONDERFUL document!! Think about it…compared to societies in Europe, the Middle and Far East, which have been around for THOUSANDS of years, the USA became a pre-eminent world super-power in 200 years??!!?? Such is what can be accomplished when the unfettered potential of the individual is unleashed to “become THE VERY BEST he can be”. Progressive translation….. greed!! Only government should and ought to be greedy… kinda like those millenia old stagnant monarchies, socialist ruling class vs. the subjegated caste systems. Like what they’ve got in mind for ya?

Let’s not forget, the USA is not a monolith nation but more like 50 INDIVIDUALS (in addition to INDIVIDUAL citizens) in a room deciding policy. Some guys are bigger than others (THE BIGGEST of which are progressive meccas going bankrupt at the moment that want us to subsidize them) but it’s still 50 INDIVIDUALS. Noticing a pattern here?? EXACTLY….. the power of the INDIVIDUAL!! Goes a LONG WAY to illustrating why progressive/collective/Marxist/class-warfare/hyphenated American etcetcetc. mindset is in such stark opposition to the spirit of the Constitution. The INDIVIDUAL is expendable and “We the People” is abandoned in favor of “gimme, gimme, gimme YOU greedy bastard”!! I’ll go so far as to say it goes beyond un-Constitutional and is demonstrably ANTI-Constitutional!!

FYI… I’ve got a little boning up to do…. scored ~88% on my quiz.

  • Harold

According to “Obozo and Friends”, it is better to teach our students of today about Islam, rather than teaching them about the Constitution. After all, he knows about Islam, but he doesn’t know about the Constitution. Since he wants all U.S. students to be “just like him”, why would he even waste our education dollars on something that he thinks is so outdated, and something that he doesn’t believe in. What a Guy, What a Guy! So much for the nonsense. As a former teacher, as time went on, we were expected to demand less from our students, so they could pass more easily and fell good about themselves (you go self-esteem, let’s all be winners-what a joke), rather than challenging them to be the best that they could be, like when I was a student, a few years ago (I am 62, you do the math). When our school systems fell prey to the liberal wackos, like the ACLU, one of the most responsible organizations for the ruining of the American educational system, among many other things, is when our American educational system started to go to “hell in a hand-basket”! Michael Savage continues to be the winner of the most correct saying of all times-”Liberalism is a mental disease”! Now, there is quite a guy…..Michael Savage…..What a Guy, What a Guy!

    • Harold Olsen

Obama also said several weeks ago that having TOO MUCH knowledge is dangerous. Dangerous to whom? Us or him? It’s dangerous to him and his Nazi regime. He doesn’t want the American people to be knowledgeable so they won’t know just how much he is deliberately destroying this country and violating the law in doing so.

      • s c

Harold, you brought up a most interesting point. Herr Obummer is slowing telling us who and what he is. Now that he’s infested the Ho House for a year and a half, it’s nice to know what he thinks about knowledge.
Obviously, when Herr Obummer went to Washington, he went with a ‘blank slate’ (tabula rasa). During all that time, he didn’t get any smarter. Ergo, it’s safe to say that no one in his or her right mind could accuse The Anointed One of having “too much knowledge.”
He’s been brainwashed ‘just about right.’ His handlers and programmers can feel proud that their experiment is such a ‘success.’ If you look at the feedback of those who support Herr Obummer, it’s readily apparent that they have the same “breadth and depth” of knowledge.
Maybe Herr Obummer and his disciples can start a prostitute union. They can ‘stimulate’ each other, and try to convince us that they’ve created new jobs. I’m sure America’s media whores will treat the story like it’s Pulitzer material.
I don’t pretend to understand how an elected mental eunuch can be looked at as a role model, but that’s for philosophers and theologians to discern – not me.
        Up the rebels!

      • slickporsche

Remember,we cannot afford to under estimate these who are trying to cause our undoing.Keep your eyes and ears open, they are smarter and more EVIL than you think.

      • tg7357

What Obama is telling is pure Marxist doctrine. If you look very closely, both parties now have an elitist think tank that wants to tell you how to think, when to think, and what you can and can’t do.
That includes the Conservatives. Listen closely to both sides, and you’ll soon hear them saying the same thing, albeit in different wording.

      • DaveH

Along those same lines, Harold, I’ve heard Liberals complaining about the bewildering number of choices we would have in a Free Market system. They think some wise soul should limit those choices for us. I kid you not.

  • Pete

The Quiz was fun. Years ago I taught constitution to jr. high students. I would be very upset if they could not score atleast 80% on your quiz. By the way powder is not only dry but in good supply.

  • FREEDOMWATCHER

WHY, is this not a federal holiday,The constitution is our only real trail to being american.Without it,we are nothing.

    • Joyce from Loris

I agree. I say let’s replace MLK’s day with Constitutional Day. Now that MLK’s records have been unsealed after 20 years, we find he was a communist, a drug loving sexually preverted whore. Unfortunately, in the 20 years that his records were sealed, we changed the name of a street in every city in America to his name. Shameful. Yes, I think we need a national holiday named the CONSTITUTIONAL DAY.

As a two year college Instructor I have been tasked to teach an Ethics class each term. When I received the textbook I was perplexed that nowhere in it could be found any mention of political ethics of any kind. I did find two small paragraphs on media ethics, which is a joke.
After some brief research I found out why I couldn’t find any mention of political ethics. They go hand in hand. There couldn’t be anything further from the truth. In our founding father’s days I am sure that applied, but nowadays that is absurd.
I now have every student write a mid-term paper on “Politicians of Today” and a research paper at the end of every term on any one of the 27 Amendments to the Constitution. Both papers of course with an ethical theme to them. I’ll also be giving them this little quiz. It should be quite interesting!

    • slickporsche

Careful, you will get fired, and be another looking for employment.

  • Steve Dolyniuk

Even though we were shown & had to read the Constitution when I was in Grade school, many years ago, I didn’t do too well on this test. What a shame. I guess they should require refresher courses. For sure ,it should be a requirement for any member of Congress & the President. It seems that the more educated man has become, (BOOK SMART) the less common sense he has. For sure most of the people in Congress (MOSTLY LAWYERS) have lost all reasoning. More of us need to join the TEA PARTY & really shake up the powers that be. This Administration, mainly Obama, Pelosi,& Reid just continue disregarding what the majority of people want.Hopefully many of the members in congress will be replaced come November 2nd. I say hopefully, because this administration (DEMOCRATS) along with the Media,Acorn, Black Panthers, Illegals, & people who don’t want to work are going to pull out all stops, so they don’t lose control of Congress. We the People can’t let them do so, nor can we sit on our cans after this election. It will take several to clean out Washington DC.

Your sentiments are my sentiments exactly! For that purpose I ask that you check out constitutionparty.com the national website of the Constitution Party. We have numerous candidates running for office in local, state, and national elections this fall. They are NOT career politicians, just normal people like you and me.
They back the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights 100%
Please check this out, and should you see anything that you like, reply back to me here. We do not accept any large corporate funding, and unfortunately, do not get much attention from the liberal media.

      Check it out!

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Gerry,
I don’t disagree with you but I’m wishing we could just get behind ONE party!!! I’m worried that this thing of backing three or four parties is going to let Nobama repeat!!! Let’s get rid of him people and the the rest of the rats on his sinking ship!!!!

  • Joyce from Loris

Great article. I do carry a pocket size copy of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and am studying it intensively. These questions and answers helped me understand some what better. I think that when WE THE PEOPLE take back our country, we need to make sure that all the illegal laws that have been made by Congress should immediately be repealed. My favorite will be the Civil Rights Act. There should not be a group of laws for a selected group of people. All laws should be for all people, period. That is pure discrimination.

    • slickporsche

Finally a smart person. I have watched as our country has been torn apart by the civil rights law and the movement. It was like throwing a cement block to a drowning person.

    • DaveH

I knew #13 was 27 Amendments, because I have been getting e-mails that are asking for a 28th Amendment to make all laws passed by congress to also include them! EVERYONE EQUAL UNDER THE LAW… (not some above!)

If it passes the borders will be overrun by more illegals. Go to NumbersaUsa.com and you can get the phone numbers of the Senators to call to stop this bill.

just imagine if the crooked politicians would read their own bills and the constitution. all could be well.

No it would not be ok, and you said it,they are crooked. That is why we need a regime change and average everyday citizens running for office. NOT career Politicians, and lawyers, who are taken care of for life.

  • Pat

I actually did quite good on the test. But, I attended Catholic schools from the 1950′s through the 1960′s. During my high school years we actually had a class provided called “Communism” where we learned the real results of this failed political power grabbing idea. Also during the 1960′s we had an English teacher who asked the question:Which would you rather be red, or dead? Of course the majority of us answered dead. He went on to advise us that life under Communism would be better than no life at all! One of my classmates and a dear friend told him “to boil in his own @#&**ing brandy” At which point he was taken by the teacher to the principal’s office. The teacher having explained what had happened was fired on the spot! Of course those were “different” times, but why can we not go back ?

    • Libertas1787

      Amen!

      • Soldier

The funny thing is, if you choose “red” you will likely end up dying a more slow and painful death though starvation. If you stand up for freedom, and die a quick and violent death by a M-16, you go straight to Heaven and all your virgins. Supposedely… Whatever is in the afterlife, it beats starving to death which always happens under communism. Afterall, how come there are no fat Haitians, Ethiopians, North Koreans, and Cubans?

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Soldier,
there are fat ones. They’re the leaders, the followers are the starving masses!!!

    • DaveH

I also attended Catholic school in the 50s and 60s, Pat. I think it was in eighth grade (about 1962) that we studied the evils of Communism.

      • Pat

Dave you are correct! The class on Communism was provided in 1962. I was a Sophmore in High School at the time. I guess it should be noted that our Principal, a Catholic priest was a stauch Kennedy Democrat. However, Democrats were quite different back then. They still believed in America !

      • DaveH

I think, Pat, that there are many Democrats who just don’t like the Republican War-Mongering and their meddling with peoples’ choices about their own bodies (victimless crimes). Not all Democrats are thieves.

    • Barbara

I, too, did well on the test. 100%. But then I went to public schools in the 40′s and 50′s. The schools were set up as K-8, elementary, and 9-12, high. In order to be promoted to high school, it was necessary to pass an examination on the constitution. I’m 70 yrs old and I never forgot what I learned. In high school, I took and elective course in Economics. It explained the difference between the economics systems, one of which was communism. Unfortunately, the word communism was coopted to label a political system that was horrifying, causing a great deal of confusion among those who didn’t understand the difference.

Our current situation could be corrected by returning to the ORIGINAL constitution and bill of rights. For example, the original provided for a senate who’s senators were appointed by the respective state governments. The 17th amendment changed that sensible arrangement to make the senators directly elected by the people, the same way the representatives are. The original made the senators directly responsible to the state governments, who could easily replace them if they didn’t perform as the states expected them to. The current senate isn’t answerable to anyone. The representatives have to go back to the people every 2 years. The senators only every 6 years. Think about it. All that time completely free of oversight.

There are, of course, a few other amendments that should also be repealed. Any of them dealing with federal powers not specifically named in the original document should also be repealed.

      • Average Joe

        Barbara,
You are absolutely correct. Most people don’t understand the way things were done before the 17 th Amendment was (ratified?) I used the question mark because I don’t believe that from the 14th Amendment on…that any of the Amendment’s to the Constitution were properly ratified. As proof, I offer this site, which will show how everything we think we know about our nation’s history since Lincoln’s usurpation of executive power is not as it seems.
While the entire site has a wealth of information, I suggest reading “Historical Outline” as a primer…you will be amazed! The owners of the site (lawyers etc,) invite all to prove them wrong…I have tried myself…I can find no flaws in their “facts”.
Good luck in your search for truth and happy reading to all.

If you really wanted to see the sea change in politics, the 1st Adm.’s “political” free speech should only extend to living breathing people. The legal fiction that allows corporations (& associations) to be considered “persons” [a view adopted so that corporations could enter into contracts] should not make them “persons” for the purpose of funding political parties, candidates or positions. So, no PACs, dot orgs, unions, corporations, or other entities could funnel money to candidates. To those who think this view is not in keeping with the Constitution, ask yourself this: “Should corporations and other associations be permitted to keep and bear arms as any other citizen?” If they’re “people” under the 1st Adm., why not the 2nd Adm? A well armed Microsoft, Haliburton and Bank of America isn’t what was in the Framers’ intent you say? Why should these same entities be controlling D.C. through massive political donations, then? If contributions were limited to $500 per person per candidate, and then only to those candidates who appear on the ballot of the contributor’s residency – you would see your Representative & Senator in their home district weekly listening to you!

    • Soldier

Trying to say that a corporation is an individual is impoosible. A corporation, like any other group is made up of many people who can choose to work for the corporation or not. Who can choose to follow the orders of the CEOs or not. Now, if all the people of a corporation were mind controlled robots, then I suppose a corp could be considered a single entity.

Make no mistake. If you are a buck private behind a 50 caliber machine gun, and you are ordered to mow down a group of tea party protesters in the near-nightmare future, if you pull the trigger, you will have to answer to God. He will make you wish that you had lived through a 1000 lifetimes as a starving African by the time He is done with you in Hell.

      • Likely_Suspect

In the eyes of the law, all forms of entities are considered “persons” for purposes of “political speech” – which includes the “right” to donate money, fund ads, etc. My distilled point is simply this: If you’re not a “person” for purposes of voting, then you shouldn’t be considered a “person” for “political speech” including contributions. Under my interpretation, rich people would be limited to the same $500 contribution to their own campaign(s), not funding a run for a six figure job with seven figure contributions from their own bankroll.

      • Dr. Mabuse

        Excellent idea…
Dirty money has contaminated the political system and all the candidates are on somebody’s jock. (‘specially them repubs).
and while we’re at it, (I know there’s gonna be weeping, the gnashing of teeth in the outer darkness, and screams to have me beheaded, LOL)
We need to keep God out the fray (just for a while, ’till we tighten up on a few things). Half the people in this country,(especially those so-called Christians) wouldn’t recognize God if he walked up behind them and kicked them off in the fat part of their self righteous azzes. How can a godless country invoke God and expect any consideration? Hint: Humble yourselves and ask for mercy. Maybe then you’ll be able to figure out how to get the snakes out of the house.

      • Pathfinder

Dr. Mabuse : You have obviously not read the reports showing that it is the democrat party which gets two to four times as much campaign cash from wealthy contributors as do the republicans. At least you let us all know your prejudices in the post with your comments about repubs being worse.

As for myself, I am convinced that BOTH parties are corrupt and it is only a matter of whose pocket either one of them are in. That is why I will not support republicans nor democrats. I have become a Libertarian.

Lastly, if you want to get “DIRTY MONEY” out of politics; strip the politicians of their unconstitutional powers. No one will waste money trying to bribe someone who doees not have the power to harm their competitors nor to aid their own quest supremacy.

      • Dr. Mabuse

        Pathfinder, take it easy turbo…
In point of fact, Presidential campaign contributions (2008)
lean just slightly in favor of the repubs.

        Note: http://www.fec.gov/press/presssummary.pdf

As far as the congresional races are concerned, here’s the skinny:

        Party Contributions in Congressional Elections

Political parties have a variety of tools to use in elections. They provide money, expertise, and polling information; they can tap a network of national, state, and local party organizations; and they may encourage party leaders to visit a candidate’s district. All of this activity is brought to bear during congressional elections with the goal of obtaining a loyal majority in the House.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to define a unit of measure for many of these services. For example, how much is it worth to a congressional candidate when the vice president visits his or her district and generates some favorable news coverage? While many important party activities are unmeasurable, the amount of money contributed to a campaign by the party acts as a suitable proxy for this broad-based party support.

Given the scarce resources available to parties, they are expected to target close races because these campaigns are most likely to gain (or lose) seats. Such activity reflects a preoccupation with a winning strategy. In addition, parties may provide greater assistance to candidates who are more likely to support the party position once elected. This second possibility arises from the need to obtain a legislative majority after the election.

Following this philosophy, campaign contributions made by political parties, (called PARTY$), should be determined by tight race measures (the party’s desire to win seats in congress), party unity, and some descriptive candidate characteristics.

        To wrap it up:

Political parties appear to be pursuing a two-pronged strategy in their efforts to enhance their power. One target is to increase (or at least maintain) the number of seats they control in Congress. This objective leads them to channel funds into closely contested elections and open seat races. Aggregate party contributions and the party specific models suggest money flows to these volatile races. A second consideration seems to be party loyalty. Again, all three models suggest candidates with stronger pro-party voting records receive significantly greater party support.

Oh and by the way, I will continue to be “prejudiced” as you so left handedly commented upon in the future.

      • DaveH

Don’t kid yourselves. Campaign Finance laws serve one purpose – Incumbent Entrenchment. Everything else the Politicians say is just another of their sweet sounding lies. It takes a lot of money to get a challenger the exposure they need to unseat an incumbent. By restricting contributions you hobble the challengers.
Also, the more we restrict political advertising, the more power we give to the Lame Stream Media to control the elections. Remember, they have the Freedom of the Press. Do you guys really want that?
No amount of money can make us vote any way we don’t want to vote. And quite frankly, anybody who gets their voting information from sound bites (without doing careful checking on their own) shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

      • Dr. Mabuse

You know Dave, thats a very interesting point.
I especially like the sound bite quip. (LOL)
The intent is not to hobble the challenger, but level the playing field. An enigma wrapped in a mystery, huh?
Between off book Pac money, unscrupled lobbyists, and outright bribes how do we effectively clean house?
I’m a gonna think on this some more.

      • BSHARING

Likely Suspect, I totally agree with you, unions, corporations, etc should not be considered “persons” and allowed to “stuff the ballot box” by “buying votes” through outrageous contributions.

      • Christin

        BSHARING,
        Agreed.

      • DaveH

But they are people (as abhorrent as some might be). They are groups of people. Since when has freedom of speech been applied only to individuals and denied if those individuals associate with others?
It is up to us to get off our lazy rumps and counter that speech, not try to stifle it. If we stifle theirs, then ours will also be stifled. Do you really want that?
I have seen lots of Union Representatives, for example, offer their talking points and they fail miserably against those of anybody who isn’t feeding at the Union trough. I want them to have their free speech so the rest of us can see what self-absorbed controlling individuals they are.
Inhibiting the free speech of people (whether individuals or groups of individuals) will only lead to further entrenchment of current leaders who thrive when there is a dearth of information available to the public.

      • Christin

        Dave H,

Either you or I misundestood BSHARING.

The comment was made to stop Big Arrogant Unions and Corporations as a group from Buying Votes with their Contributions, NOT stiffle Free Speech.

The individual from these places could still contribute $$$ from their own pay check, just not from a million / billion dollar Company or Union. I believe this was the point so that it would truly be a process by the people, for the people, of the people.

        Just a thought.

    • Only in America

Perhaps they will listen or only the rich will run.

Non individual voters should not be allowed direct access to the election of representatives of the voters.

      • Randy G.

I think the house of reps should be ran with the Draft system(from the military- not by it) Then And Only Then will they be truly Representative.

    • alpha-lemming

In a perfect world you’re correct. The reason for PACs, dotorgs, unions etc…… ALL of them is to 1) Pay money to put out Governmental “hits” (tax, regulation etc.) on people you don’t like or 2) Pay “protection” (tax, regulation, subsidy etc.) money to Government mafia. Just that simple. Crime subsidizing crime.

      • alpha-lemming

In addition…. I’m not crazy about it but, in the current climate, denying corporations their free-speech rights is akin to instituting a zero-tolerance 100% gun ban in Israel.

      • Pathfinder

Good point, lemming. Crime funding crime.

    • Carolina Mom

You make a valid point, and I agree wholeheartedly that only individuals should be allowed to contribute money toward a candidate ot ballot initiative. Having said that, we cannot make that illegal unless and until we are willing to make ALL lobbying illegal. I do hope, however, that you are not referring to the recent SCOTUS decision that Obama and the Dems keep lying about. That decision was NOT about letting “corporations” like GE or GM make political contributions, it was about the ability of ordinary people to band together in order to fight the GM’s and GE’s and have their side of the story told. As long as ACORN can funnel money to candidates, I had better be able to donate to the NRA in support of their agenda and have my side of the argument allowed the same exposure.

    • Patriot

You cut off the money supply to these lifers only then we will take our country back! We need to limit the donations to ONLY the voters in that district, end of story! This may solve most of the problems that enable our elected officials to become corrupt!

      • DaveH

As long as we have people like Harry Reid who is controlling the fate of the whole country, we better damn sure have the right to contribute to his opponent (in this case, Sharron Angle).
I know all you guys are well meaning, but you are all a good example of why we are in the mess we’re in. The incumbents have had years of public exposure at our expense. And, unfortunately, it is a fact of life that many voters make their choice based on recognition (the evil they know). It takes a lot of money and campaign ads for the challenger to get known. Unless they can get exposure from the Lame Stream Media, and I think you all know how that goes.
Already, Incumbents are very difficult to unseat. As an example, look at John McCain, my state senator and RINO supreme. We can’t get rid of that guy. So, let’s not give them any firmer locks on their position, PLEASE.

      • Christin

        DaveH,

I think McCains’ challenger was gaining speed with the Tea Party and Conservative movement, but when Sarah Palin “campaigned and endorsed” McCain on TV, he started slipping in the polls and McCain rose. I saw McCain turn due right when Sarah came on board and talk about Borders and such.

Evidentially, the Conservatives in CO did not check McCain’s record or use their own judgment as to who was more conservative really and constitutionally sound, but followed Palin’s lead. I wonder if she felt obligated to show support and campaign for him as she was on his presidential ticket that lost.

You guys in CO missed the opportunity this time and are going to have to do the hard work and get a new constitutional conservative candidate if there is a next time and throw your support behind him/her with phone calls, flyers, money and office campaign help to get out the vote.

The people of Nevada have done the hard work and they have a chance to unseat a multi-millionaire, American killing, evil, progressive, way-too-long-standing Demo-cr@p.

Best to you and your state.

      • DaveH

That’s AZ, Christin. I think you’re right about the obligation part for Sarah. But the Tea Partiers should have gotten on her about that one. I only vote Libertarian, but if I was a Republican, that move would have definitely cost her my respect.

      • Christin

        DaveH,
        Yes AZ, not CO…sorry.

while I usually agree with you, we part company on termlimits. If we did get a good constitutional conservative in I wouldn’t want to get rid of him so quick till they are the norm. Also, if they know they aren’t gonna get re-elected, then what is there to make them do our bidding? We already have term limits, in the vote!!! If they don’t do what we want, then vote them out!!! By what we want, I mean follow the constitution. I add that so normie, duhh, or flashless won’t jump on it and say i have an unconstitutional agenda!!!

I believe that the REAL education about these wonderful documents should be taught at home. IF we allow ourselves to believe that they will be taught fairly in school, we will have what we have today…

    • THIRD PARTY

GOOD,point, the public school teachers hate talking about, and or teaching about the subject, they really know there jobs are forced payment to crooks, and union thugs.

  • Dennis

I would be willing to bet that the majority of the students in school know very littekl about the Constitution, as well as few of the teachers. I would also bet very few members of Congress could answer the list of questions. The education of our children is lacking in most respects.
The students as well as memebrs of Copngress need to know the powers allowed by the Federal Government, and the powers of the states. Congress needs to be reminded of the powers allowed under the Constitution, this also applys to the federal jusges all the way up. America has become a country that is governed by the supposed elite, not by the Constitution that plainly states our government is “of the people, by the people, for the people”. We as citizens need to remind Congress of this in Novemebr. Vote.

    • Angel Wannabe

dennis, your right the kids don’t know much about the Constsitution & prayer. My half sister retired at 38 years, as a Math teacher. She Went along with the notion, that prayer & religion doesn’t belong in school. The fact is, that the Constitution was created for a moral religous people, and is most likey the reason they only teach a portion of the REVISED VERSION, because we were founded on Christian principles.__ As John Adams states clearly_
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

    • Christin

      Dennis,
A good place to start would be to require that College students studying LAW learn “Constitutional Law” again instead of “Case Law” which is the cases that have gone before the judges and won or lost. Cases before a court of law should be decided on by the laws stated in the Constitution (and the Ten Commandmants), NOT by some smooth talking Lawyer or activist Judge.

And like sc, I, too, have been on both sides of the desk (taught first grade through college freshman, currently on the parent side) and I would have a curriculum developed to introduce and teach the basics of the Founding Father’s, the Constitution of the USA with the Amendments, and the Bill of Rights in Elementary school. Then require Middle School/Junior High and High School students to study Free-Market Capitalism (and others systems to see ours is proven better), these original documents and original sources about the Founding Fathers whose struggle was great to bring us this superior way of governace, and maybe touch of the Federalist Papers with High Schoolers.

I firmly believe our country would change direction if the youth understood our country better and grew a sense of healthy pride.

When I taught sixth grade social studies (among other subjects) I made up a “Free Enterprise” Unit to teach the students capitalism and the Free Markets and how it works not only in USA, but how it worked producing, buying and selling goods to other countries. They chose a stock on the “Americn Stock Market Exchange” in the newspaper and followed it for a few weeks and plotted a chart to see if theirs made profit or loss.

Of course, WE would have a great deal to over come to repair America from the level we have sunk to. Fixing our country is a bit like moving to a new house… where you have to clean out all the “stuff and garbage” you have aquired from your old house and pack it up, donate it, or throw it out. It is a lot of hard work, but the end result is a brand new clean house to start a new life in.

      Anybody up to the task?

      • slickporsche

When do we start????? Its damn near too late. How to get rid of the garbage? I like the firing squad, fullauto weapons are the rule. Nice to see them jumping around.

      • Christin

        Yesterday, slickporche! (smile)

        LET’S RECLAIM OUR REPUBLIC!!!

      • Big Ugly

        NO – ABSOLUTELY NOT.

The place to start is requiring that the Constitution, and Bill of Rights, be taught in the First Grade. Many examples of inter-personal relationships amoung 5 and 6 year olds could be used to teach the principles of our Constitution.

      • Pathfinder

Big Ugly : THAT is a very interesting idea. Start in the first grade. A very interesting idea.

      • Christin

        Big Ug,
I did mention that EDUCATION was a “good first place” to start!!!!!!!

I discussed College, Elementary School, Middle School/Junior High and High School. In addition saying the “Pledge of Allegience” (to one nation under God) AND singing the patriotic songs: “The Star Bangled Banner”, “God Bless America”, “America the Beautiful”, “This Land is Your Land”, “God Bless the USA” could be taught to five year old Kindergarteners and up to love America again!

Voting out or throwing out Anti-American, Anti-Capitalist, Anti- Constitutionalists in our entire government should probably go on at simultaneously.

      • DaveH

        Christin,
I have a problem with that whole Pledge of Allegiance thing. When they have kids chanting that Pledge, most of them don’t even know what they’re pledging to. Allegiance to what? A Flag? An inanimate object? I thought Christians were taught not to worship idols?
We are a nation that was established to promote individual freedom. It clashes with that individual freedom to coerce students to make such a pledge, especially when most don’t even know what they are pledging to do. And it can put the intelligent and moral kids into quite a bind. They have pledged their allegiance, but now there are people leading this country which many of us don’t want to be allied with. Have we broken our pledge promises?
I think the time spent coercing the kids to engage in a mindless chant would be much better spent learning about our Founders and the Constitution and why our individual freedom is so important and works so well when implemented.

Good article & Great post sc!, I must admit, I didn’t know everything about the Constitution off the top of my head. I should do what our Son does and carry a pocket sized Constitution in his pocket at all times.
As far as education goes, A lot of folks in our area home school they’re kids! I applaud them! Home schooling wasn’t around, when our kids went to school!__But with the grace of God, Thankfully our kids didn’t turn out like a bunch of wifty zombies, who don’t know how to critically think. Also pertaining to schools, I’m sad to say our school was one of the first schools, where an atheists child and it’s parents called in the ACLU, and had prayer banned at Graduation services.__I absolutely believe when they threw Prayer & Meditaion out of the schools, they moved in the medal detectors & the police. When ever the Feds get involved, everything goes to hell in a hand basket!

Wel, we do have that opportunity. Please check out the Constitution Party at constitutionparty.com . This is probably the best alternative to our current 2-party (corrupt) system of government ever!! Remember, the Republican Party was a “Third Party” when Abraham Lincoln was elected. Pllease lookk at our platform and then we would greatly appreciate any assistance you can give us.

That is one of those cases, as Chip noted, where the Supreme Court has passed a law. There is nothing in the Constitution about Separation of Church and State. It simply says that Congress shall pass no laws respecting an establishment of religion. No such laws have been passed by Congress. The Supreme Court is in contempt of the citizens and of the Constitution in that instance.
In fact, the Federal Government is not even supposed to be involved in education. That is a State power. It’s time for the religious people to band together and stop the nonsense (that coming from an atheist who is tired of seeing peoples’ Freedom get trampled).

Dave H : Thanks. In return I agree to not make church attendance mandatory. I wonder why so few of our fellow citizens (both religious and non-religious) grasp the idea of “voluntary and optional”. It seems that all too often we want to ban something or make it mandatory. It is such an obsession, with banning and mandating, that is at the heart of tyrany.

      • hflashman

Whatever. Bottom line…some people read stuff into the Constitution that is challenged by someone else. The final arbiter is the SCOTUS (see eg Marbury v. Madison). You can say the Constitution requires us to be a “chrstian nation” based upon theology (whatever that means) … I can say I disagree. Guess who decides? And that is what the Constitution means and provides for…what the SCOTUS says it means and provides for … whether you like it or not.

      • slickporsche

You are a very scary liberal

      • DaveH

Only in a Court Jester sort of way.

      • EltonJ

Hflashman, just because the SCOTUS interprets the Constitution one way doesn’t mean that a tight interpretation isn’t possible. Jefferson wanted a strict interpretation and Hamilton wanted a loose interpretation. Jefferson believed in Christ’s message although he didn’t believe that the miracles should be taught.

Jefferson’s model of interpreting our Constitution hasn’t been tried yet. So I invite you to try it. You might be surprised at the results, and you might even actually like it.

      • Pathfinder

Wrong again flashman. SCOTUS is NOT the final arbiter of anything SBOTEU (Supreme Being Of The Entire Universe) is. Also, “We The People” are, ourselves, a higher authority over all three branches of government. They are supposed to be oue “public servants” NOT our “ruling masters”.

      • hflashman

Guess that depends on whether you believe there is a “supreme being’ doesn’t it?

Which shows exactly why you are on here. To argue. You want to disagree with anything to do with truth or common sense.

      • patrick H.T. paine

Interesting and WRONG! While Marbury is infamous for the notion of
“judicial review” and the subsequent evolution of the delusion that
the “constitution” requires interpretation, no such power exists or
is required. The Supreme Court has the power to “apply” the “constitution” to various disputes detailed in Article 3.

What Marbury SHOULD be cited for is the clear statement of what
is “unconstitutional”, and that such law is VOID and therefor has
“no authority” despite the fact that government may attempt to
enforce it…..and FINALLY that this state of “unconstitutionality”
does NOT require such a determination to be made by the courts,
supreme or otherwise………even if they eventually catch on.

Since this is a rather important point, one way to keep it straight
is to remember that VAGUE = VOID, and that if the “constitution”
required “interpretation”, it would be “vague”, making the Constitution, unconstitutional, which by definition it can NOT BE!

Grasping this is actually useful for the point you are attempting to
make regarding “freedom of religion”, and would allow you to point out
that such a freedom would entail “freedom from religion”…….

No religion trumps the constitution regardless of what “claims” are
made……..moral or otherwise, and it would be useful if people
were educated to a point that the rights cited in the “declaration”
are far better understood in the context of “natural law”, and are
“a priori” in an intellectual/ philosophical sense.

Confucious did not require a “creator” to derive the GOLDEN RULE.

Nature does not require a knowledge of any metaphysical force to
proceed, nor does it prevent co-operation among species, with many
        examples that are counter intuitive…….

Religions all seem to be claiming that they are “good or moral” while
simultaneously declaring that they are the “one true path” to
“salvation” ( which is more properly understood as continuation of
self after physical death ) and this claim seems to produce a number
of contradictions, which precludes any possibility of “tolerance”
between “faiths”, or even the subsets of similar faiths, especially
if that “faith” requires as a prerequisite that “non believers” be
converted by force. ( or threat of death )

The right to resist such attempts ( self defense/ survival ) is clearly understood in “natural law” and it would seem some what
strange that a “creator” responsible for “nature”, would make
such a contradiction, conditional for salvation…….

Nieztche stated: When gods cease to be powerful, they necessarily
        become good.

We have a ways to go yet, but understanding why seperation of church
and state is required and clear in the Constitution is not difficult
        when expressed correctly.

      • Average Joe

While I agree with most of you post, I must take exception with the last line:

“We have a ways to go yet, but understanding why seperation of church
and state is required and clear in the Constitution is not difficult
        when expressed correctly.”

There is no separation of church and state mentioned in the Constitution other than the First Amendment telling the congrees that they can make no law concerning religious freedom:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
The basis for this misconception can be found in Thomas Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptists, which can be found here:

        http://www.loc.gov/loc/lcib/9806/danpre.html

Other than that, I have no problem with your post.

Let’s not forget that the founders also made it clear that the power was still held at the State level and only those powers specifically given to the general government were relinquished by the States. All else was to remain in the hands of the States or the people, hence the tenth amendment: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

    • Libertas1787

Limited to those specified in Article 1, Section 8. Very limited powers!

      • DaveH

The problem is that they put in the clause “The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States”.
The Founders fell down on the job with that one, as the Liberals are construing that to mean the Federal Government can do anything they want as long as they say it is for our own good. Obviously the Framers did not mean that or the other powers would have been redundant and a waste of time to enumerate.
We the people are just going to have to ride herd on Congress and put out of office every one of them who uses that as justification for more power.

      • Andy Howey

If you read that more carefully, the Congress only has the authority to collect the money, not to determine how it will be spent.

      • Anthony

        DaveH -
It’s the GENERAL WELFARE CLAUSE that’s been the bane of our Political Freedoms. And, what’s more, according to some… that Clause was left in the original writing due to compromise between the Jefferson side and the Hamiltonians.

Hamilton wanted more Dictatorial/Federal Power, so the masses would be subject to Central Authority which would never have to suffer being questioned.

It was the Jefferson side that wrote “inalienable rights” of all men are what entitles them to freedom, and the “pursuit” of happiness. Those words never came out of Hamilton’s mouth … no matter what, others may say.

Hamilton knew they must first be in a position to wrestle power away from others… before they could achieve anything. Hence the reason you see some very Jeffersonian writings by ALexander Hamilton in The Federalist Papers.

At first, he even had James Madison fooled. It is opinioned that even the 1st Justice / John Jay / was more of a Hamilton follower than he was for the inalienable rights defence.

Chief Justice John Marshall was 100x worse, as we was most definitely a Hamilton Disciple – thru & thru. Marbury vs Madison was one of the first real blows to the new Constitution and it fooled a lot of Congress. Marshall is who set it in motion that Justices should be appointed for Life. That was never put into the Constitution as the Jefferson side knew how that would allow corruption.

Later on, it was impossible to reverse the inevitable results….
Slowly, inch by inch, these Hamiltonian followers have whittled away anything slightly resembling the Jeffersonian creed…

The Silent Revolution of 1913 all but killed that side of America. We now have a very Hamilton-like Country. The one thing that never gets mentioned, is how Hamilton was actually working for the European Central Bank all along – even if it was still in its infancy. The East India Trading Company was owned by the Rothschilds Bank. You can learn more by going to larouchepac.com and viewing a video called:

        The Two Massachusetts

All in all … to me, it’s required that one understand how this nonsense got legs … if you understand the original tactics, you can build on that when trying to fight back. As they say: One must know thy enemy if you are to beat them.

Wallbuilders.com is another good website for learning about the Constitution and its real meaning and interpretations.

Spread the word .. and definitely share this with your children, if you truly care about the world you are leaving them.

Good point… States’ Sovereignty and States’ Rights in the Constitutional Amendment have given them much authority and power, but now taken away from them by the corrupt federal government. I may be inclined to give your rantings some credence IF…

Instead of “We the People of the the United States of America” it was “We the People of the World”….but it doesn’t so I don’t care if enemy combatants (they don’t even have the guts/decency/honor to wear a military uniform… which by Geneva Convention standards makes battlefield executions perfectly legitimate) sit in Gitmo for 20 years. They’re alive and in my book… that puts ‘em ahead in the game. The one good test case I recall was…. remember Jose Padilla? He WAS a citizen (scummy one), never went to Gitmo, got his day in court, was convicted and currently a resident of a Super-max. Doesn’t sound like due process was denied (although admittedly may have been delayed). If you want to grant Constitutional rights to the world, start a petition to have it done. Then…. mail it to me…. so I can use it to start my wood stove.

When it comes to insuring that the nation’s children and teens have a working knowledge of the Constitution, Uncle Scam has failed miserably. Public education is an indoctrination process, and the Constitution is portrayed as a document that is the private playground of career politicians.
Sputnik [look it up] gave Uncle Scam reasons to creep into public education. Politicians twisted and perverted that entry, and America has in its midst millions of ‘citizens’ who mock the
Constitution and the Founding Fathers. Because I’ve been on both sides of the teacher’s desk, I know part of the cure is to eliminate The Department of Education, close all public schools, and hunt down and imprison politicians.
Solve the problem. Knock Uncle Scam on his treasonous arse, and homeschool everyone who needs it. It can be done, and it must be done.

But you do have the right, and responsibility, to “oversee” what is being taught your children.
DO YOUR JOB before you expect others to do theirs.
Learn what the LAW (Constitution) really says and, then, hold their feet to the fire ….. or introduce them to Tar & Feathers – our Founding Fathers would have (and did) done so.

You cannot counter UNLAWFUL force by the federal government by groveling, licking their boots, and crying “please – please”. The Second Amendment GUARANTEES that the ‘government’ will preserve and defend your GOD GIVEN RIGHT to provide for your own, and those around you, protection. This is not only a RIGHT, but it is a RESPONSIBILITY. If you expect the Constitution to be upheld – YOU MUST DO IT, by force if necessary. I pray God that it never comes to that, but, if it does, how will you do so if you have not prepared ahead.
It’s like a friend of mine who carries his motorcycle helmet on the back of his motorcycle “just in case he needs it”. He does not seem to understand when I point out that if he ‘needs it’ he won’t have to to put it on, so why bother carrying it. Oh, Well.

These nutwings who control the schools also control what must be taught in home schooling!

      • BSHARING

I home school in South Carolina & the rules for home schooling a child are very general. They do not tell you what books you must use nor what method of teaching. In general it says you must teach reading, writing, science (doesn’t matter if it is Creationism or Evolution) and math and have 180 school days. High School is a little different in that there are certain types of classes you must teach (Government, Economics, 4 years of English, 3-4 years of math [depending on if they are college bound or not], 3 lab science w/lab, etc. There is a 3d party over-site group (not governmental) to ensure that the parent is covering those general areas to make sure that every child is getting the best education they can. The people in this 3d party group are not paid and are only interested in the education of the children. Not every state does it the same and I have heard that some of them actually require the home school to use the same books, attend class on-line with state teachers and/or have other restrictions that do nothing more than put more burden on the parents than necessary. I have heard of “problem children” being kicked out of the school system & then parents are told to home school them the best way they can – or face jail. These kids usually fall through the cracks and end up giving the home school system a bad rep. Problem children are often that way because of their home situation anyway (one parent-or grandparent, no discipline, drugs, alcohol, abuse, etc) so what is the answer? I don’t know, BUT not all problems are fixable for all people. In my opinion there are not enough people taking responsibility for themselves, their family or their own lives and success. I love the US but I detest what the politicians have done to this country and believe that the government should be at least 70% less the size it is now.

      • Keath

I agree 100%,to many parents don’t give a dam’d and the children are not supervised and of course we have tghe government telling oparents they cant whip thier children, what happened to our Bible:Spare the rod spoil the child. Now you know where all these spoiled cghildren come from.Trust in God not man.

9/17/10, “We the People” have a tough row to hoe with the gov’t school colossus. I don’t see the mindset within this young generation to take it on. They’re either too busy worrying about student debt and the jobs they might not get; or they’re just plain deadbeats anyhow.

      • Mom in America

That’s a pretty awful thing to say, as well as a massive overgeneralization. Young people these days work their tails off through college and often end up with massive debt as a result. An entire generation of students (multiple generations) have had it drilled into their head that college is a must and a post-college career practically a given. Millions of jobs have disappeared over the last couple of years, and I’m sure more are going to disappear. Your statement is crass and untrue. I finished my B.A. a couple years ago, and I’m one of the only students in my program that got a full-time professional job with actual prospects that pays more than $12 an hour. Most everyone I know either went to grad school because the job market is a desert, or they muck along working two or three part-time jobs while they continue to look for something better.
        You are a jerk.

With all due respect to you and everyone else who has a problem with this word usage: there – their.
Ex.: I hope they get there (a place) on time to retrieve their (denotes ownership) possessions.
Break – brake. Even teachers don’t know which one to use. I had the displeasure of reading a teachers report once. I’ll never do that again.
You can break a brake, but you can’t brake a break.
Do you step on the (break or brake) petal to try to stop the car?
Do you take a lunch (break or brake) at noon?
If you want to take my comment as an insult instead of a learning experience, you can.

They’re not too good at reading the bills!

There is a far cry difference between “reading” and “comprehending”. By the recent acts of our elected officials, I would say they have intentionally mis-interpreted it as an excuse to get their way.

Elected and appointed officials and, it seems, illegally appointed and employed cartels of power brokers set up with the intent to “eat out our substance”.
Let’s just say it like it is: subjugate us and compel us to do what they want us to do.
Thanks very much, Chip. That really cleared my head and galvanized my thoughts about wht it means to “lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty” – I Timothy 2:2. The Word exhorts us to obey the laws and leaders. But, when the leaders and laws are in opposition to the primary law of the land they have no standing…even if they were elected by the people. The rights come from God according to our form of legeality.

If you don’t or won’t reconize God or have no concept of what He explains about Himself you have no standing.

Any compilation of legalese confusion such as bills passed recently without due reduction to layman’s terminology and succinct composition always leaves cracks for judicial erosion. You can get nearly as many interpretations of any clause in the the monumental IRS code books as the number of questions you may care to initiate.
The purposes of any such compilations are twofold:
(1)A minimum of two qualified parasites indoctrinated in similar institutions are required to argue any discrepancies invoked by grammatical misconstruction therein before an enrobed soulless parasite that will, without fail, support the hidden intent of the parasites that concocted the evil cauldron.
(2)All such massively worded documents provide maximum facility conducive to fiscal waste and delay in any abuse that may arise from the stench of rancid pork within. Legislated monopoly investments with intended suppliers are always secured before passage of pork.

      • Kate8

Gerry, Thanks. I am familiar with the Constitution Party. and I like them very much.

I’m not sure what that has to do with my comment about the irrelevance of Congress. Their power has been abrogated.

Our entire system of government has been superimposed by a phoney overlay, maritime system. If large numbers of Americans would learn about this, and learn how we cannot be held under the jurisdiction of this false system unless we (albeit unknowingly) submit to it, we’d have a huge movement to erase it and stand for our Consitutional Republic once again.

This is a hugely kept secret. If we all became aware, the only way they’d be able to enforce it would be by force, at the barrel of a gun.

    • Libertas1787

I think most of the congressmen, the President, Fed judges, know exactly what they are doing! Clinton could give a synopsis of each of the Federalist Papers! They know exactly what they are doing to the dumbed down citizens of the US.

      • Pathfinder

Yes. I agree that this is no accident. The things that are happening are being done deliberately.

      • Flagwaver2010

Exactly! Why do you think they wanted to control and now want to expand control of education? Simply, to continue to “dumb down” the populace by rewriting history, as well as textbooks. This has been a long time in coming and I personally indict the teacher colleges/universities because they perpetuate the theme. The professor wields the “red” pen and if you dare disagree with the professor – your grade suffers, one is ridiculed in front of other classmates, and one could be FORCED to take “sensitivity training” or be expelled, depending on the subject matter. Government is out of control and demanding to control our lives completely. That is all the new legislation is about – controlling our lives. Even the Healthy Food movement is control of our lives. On the surface, innocuous enough; however, delve deeper. It is nothing more than control within our homes. VOTE NOV. 2 – take out the trash!

flagwaver2010__I think it’s about time we start pulling our kids outta the public education system and/or refusuing to pay taxes!_-Watch they’re damn progressive heads turn then!!!!

      • Christin

        Angle Wannabe,

        You have the right idea!

I already pulled my children out of public education three weeks after school started for my oldest son when he was five and going into kindergarten… incompetence, and Rude, Mean, uncaring principals and teachers. I felt like I was dealing with an ignorant, slow govermental beaurocracy… and I was! With the exception of those three weeks my two sons have attended private Christian school since they were two and now I am the At Home Teacher helping with homework, studying for tests, completing numberous projects, and getting them to music instrument lessons and church.

I agree with you about the SCHOOL TAXES attached to our property ownership. It makes me sick to pay the public school taxes then we go to a private school and have to pay all over again. I think it would be grand to STOP paying the school taxes OR give SCHOOL VOUCHERS so that parents can choose a school to which their school would taxes go… be it a charter school, private school, parochial / Christian school, or public. I’ll tell you what, Competition is a GREAT thing… if parents could pick their school, the schools would shape up and try to please the folks so they would attract families to attend theirs sothey could make money.

But what say we take the GOV OFF the payroll and fire them (and NEA & Education Department) and take back our schools.

        flagwaver2010,

There are a lot of bad people out there Teaching. I have had several bad teachers and professors myself and I have taught along side many teachers who lacked knowledge in their field, were lazy, lectured too much and had low participation, wrong on the facts, or wasted class time.
I think a lot of the blame also lies with the “text books.” Some content in the textbooks was okay and they hadn’t really worn out physically yet and didn’t need replacing, BUT the TEXTBOOK COMPANIES started to learn how to make MONEY by redoing the texts every couple of years often watering down the content or using incorrect facts when reprinting. They didn’t make sure the facts were right or maybe they made sure they weren’t so the students would be indoctrinated to a left leaning agenda unbeknowst to many teachers.

Teachers are given curriculum guidelines and texts with which to teach it. I made up a lot of my own units to go along with the guidelines and the textbooks. It was a LOT OF WORK, but it was a LOT OF FUN and the students were engaged. It wasn’t until about 13 – 15 years ago that I noticed “wrong” and “PC” information in the textbook curriculum, though I’m sure much stuff got passed me. One instance was with the social studies text in sixth grade (I was teaching Reading & English at the time) where I got into a verbal debate with a social studies teacher on my team about “the Separation of Church and State” and about teaching “Christmas, Hanukkah, Rhamadan, and Kwanza”. I could not believe Teachers were so misinformed about the Church and state issue and that they were required to teach theses “other” celebrations.

Some teachers don’t know, some don’t care, and some care a great deal about the students that parents bestow on them for the school year.

        All the best to you.

Angel, Christin, My daughter decided to sent my grandson to Christian school, even though it creates a financial hardship. She was able to get a reduced tuition by participating in school functions. (He just started kindergarten).

Right after school started, a judge ruled that once our children enter public school, they become the property of the state! And that parents have no voice in what they are taught, nor do they even have the right to KNOW what they are being taught.

God worked a miracle to get him into a really good school. It is worth every bit of sacrifice.

        Angel wannabe,
A friends wife had a similar problem here. Her son got involved with the wrong crowd and one day after dropping her son off at school and watching him walk into the building, he turned around and left playing hooky. Well the cops showed up with him in tow and wrote her a ticket for enabling truancy and threatened to fine her 250 dollars. Well the next day, she parked, went in with her son and accompanied him to his first class. when the teacher asked her to leave she refused. the principle came in and when he asked her to leave she explained she was making sure he didn’t play hooky! He then informed her that that was the schools job not hers. She then told the principle then the school was slacking on their job as she had dropped him off watched him walk in and he was still able to be truant. She had gotten a ticket and it was her job to insure he didn’t leave school. this was the only way she could do i, to stay with him the whole school day! The principal told her that if she didn’t leave he would call the cops. She turned, looked at him and said” Then you better do your job from now on cause I will make sure he walks into the school and if I get another visit from the police, I will sue YOU personally as it is your responsibility to see he stays!! The kid never left school again!!! The ticket she did get was dismissed!!

Angel W – I remember, too, as a child, being poor, and not realizing it. We kids used to roam the neighborhood freely, not ever worried about being unsafe. We walked quite some distance to school, and I came home to an empty house (my mom worked). Neve thought a thing about it.

We didn’t have much, but were happy then. Dad grew fruit, veggies, chickens and rabbits. We had plenty of the things that matter.

Nowdays we have to watch our kids at every moment, plan ‘playdates’ instead of letting them visit friends at will, and monitor the schools at every turn. We have to live on guard, and try to keep a step ahead.

I long for the simpler life we had then. Things are just too complicated and restricted now.

I am so tired of the crooks having more rights than their victims!!! If a man is accused of molesting children, why in the hell should he get out on bail??? No bail till he is judged innocent or not guilty!!!

      • Christin

        Angel & Kate8,
Yes, I remember those times when I was young. We left our house and car doors unlocked. We had a big garden, a LOT of creative play to entertain ourselves, and we all had to share my brother’s scooter. My two each have their own…so spoiled! It was simpler life then.

One day during the first few days (of the three weeks) of my son’s public school kindergarten experience he forgot his lunch box. So I got my three year old out of his car seat and the three of us went back into the school in the kindergarten wing to retrieve it as we only had one lunchbox and he was going to need it the next day. WE found it with in minutes and walked out to go to our car. A Teacher saw us and authoritatively asked what we were doing in the school. I guess you are only supposed to go through car pool and never enter the building. I though shoot, and quickly tried to get to my car as I told her we JUST WENT IN TO GET A KINDERGARTENER’S LUNCH BOX. And she followed me down the steps and started lecturing me about not entering the school. So much for PUBLIC school (guise for gov school.) The Principal there was a mean dictator and I guess Teachers who work for that kind of leader are also prone to acting like little dictators as they are told to do.

Another day the Principal came out to check car pool and knocked on my window and asked me questions. She said her parents were having accidents on the campus. I told her I’ve not been in any. She continued and said her parents were swearing at each other. And I said I’m not saying anything bad. And after more conversation, I said, “I guess I’ll have to call on God’s Mighty Angels to protect me when I am on this campus.” And she said….. (wait for it…) “I’m going to call the police on you!” I left and cried all the way home with my five and three year old little children.

So back to Private school we went… and yes, it is expensive, but worth it to not have to deal with that bull cr@p. We have sacraficed to keep them out of the gov buildings where God in NOT welcome.

Thank you for your notes ladies… God’s Speed.

I had one of those left wing teachers at LA Trade Tech. He taught community planning and organizing. He had us watch kook nut Michael Moore’s Bowling for Columbine, and we had to write an analysis paper on this piece of crap movie.

Well, he didn’t like my paper! He only had us write the papers so
He could see where we stood politically and to see who he could indoctrinate. When he found out that I held a Master’s degree, which he also had his thinking became a little bit more rational. It took him months to grade my project on gang intervention programs . He only gave me a grade after complaining about not getting a grade, but I would sue his ass if he gave me anything less than an A in the class. Students turned their projects in on yellow legal tablet, it was hand written. I spent over a month compiling research and putting together the project. These students are the ones who are getting a free ride to UCLA and USC. They have no right to be there if they can not do the work in a collegiate way!

Our education system, under the direction of federal rules, is EXACTLY what they want. Most rely on our government because that is what they have been taught. We indirectly pay for the K-12 system through taxes, giving us a “minimal” education. Students do not respect the school, because they do not see a direct expense. It appears “free”, thus they don’t respect it. Bring in a co-pay to the families, which will give them some ownership, and you will see respect return to the classroom, and the education level improve.

If I had my way, the government would get completely out of education. That includes funding it with our tax money. Public Schooling is such an obvious road to propaganda. I have no doubt that our Founders would have not allowed it.
However, as I am vastly outnumbered I am hoping at least that the people will demand school choice.

      • Christin

        I am with you DaveH.

        Read my post above.
I want school vouchers and privatization of schools.
Limit the gov… take back our Republic. AMEN.

      • Angel Wannabe

DavH & Christin, vouchers and privitization of the public schools, would definately increase competition, and would pratically force each & every school and each and every teacher to be at the top of their game!__Well said!

      • LocalYokel

NEVER EVER worry about being a single entity when you know that you are right. I’ve voted “none of the above” almost consistently for 50 years hoping for the takeover pace to become obvious to a majority while waiting for a party to agree with me, not vise versa. Guess what has happened in spite of media white wash?

      • a progressive nightmare

Daveh, Absolutely! we should embark on a campaign to TOTALLY dismantle the department of education. Then we can control what our children are beign taught, and then hold those WE HIRE to teach, accoutable.

Maybe then we could get back to teaching our children about THE GREATNESS fo AMERICA, the constitution, reading and writing skills, science, math, etc etc etc. Instead of johnny has two mommies or two daddies or teaching young children about sex.

      • Angel Wannabe

Progressive nightmare, I agree, to take ahold of our childrens education,__ but first there has to be someone to make the sacrifice to actially stay at home and teach the children. I did, I worked from home, when I wasn’t home, the kids went with us!

      • Kate8

Christin, The reason democrats are so vehemently opposed to school vouchers is because they want to control the indoctrination of our children. The last thing they want is our kids being taught to love God and country, and receive a high-quality education that trains them to THINK.

Education is a huge part of their agenda. They want them dumbed down and fixed in the socialist mindset. Like some of the posters here who are products of government education.

Check it out! The Constitution Party believes the De[t of Education is absolutely and completely UN-necessary.

      • DaveH

        Gerry,
I have found no other political party that comes close to the principles of freedom that the Libertarians advocate.

      • Christin

        Kate8,
I know gov doesn’t want us to have school vouchers and school choice.
I know they want ALL the school TAX money for their leftist leaning agenda schools. Some how Jeb Bush got vouchers in FL as some poor schools were not too good… and DC has/had them too or did BO get rid of them after he put his daughters in private school. I kind of feel sorry for grandparents who don’t even have children in the public school anymore, BUT still have to PAY school taxes to “them.”
We believe the gov’s intention is to dry up our paychecks so we will not be able to afford private school. And then they will STOP Homeschooling and all will be forced into the Godless indoctrination campuses or be punished.
Loss of freedoms wreak of evil.

      • Andy Howey

CJ: I’m sorry, but you’re barking up the wrong tree here. Putting an extra expense on the families isn’t going to make the kids respect school any more. In fact, it might well make them resent it more, because the money that the parents have to put out for this “co-pay” is money that the family won’t have, and in some cases, it would be an undue financial burden. Kids don’t respect school because they don’t respect the teachers. They don’t respect the teachers, because the teachers, in general, are jaded and don’t care. I agree with whomever said to get rid of the NEA, but don’t stop there — get rid of all the teachers’ unions. The teachers don’t care because they are protected and they do as little as possible. I’ve been observing this for the past seven years. We need to take control of how OUR money is spent and tell, not just the schools, but government as a whole, what we want them to do and how to spend our money. If they don’t do what we want, fire them!

      • DaveH

        Andy,
I must confess that my college years were paid by others (including grandma) and I didn’t work. But even back then before I even dreamed of being political, I observed that the people, who had to work to pay their way, took college a lot more seriously than the others. I took it pretty serious even though I didn’t have to work, but then most of the people on this board can attest that I am not the normal guy, lol.

    • Harold Olsen

They’d probably just throw it into the trash since they consider the US Constitution to be an illegal document. The left has felt that way for decades and I’m beginning to believe that many longtime Republican members have begun to feel that way as well. Those idiots get elected and choose to forget that they work for us and decide they can do whatever the hell they choose and the people be damned. THROW THE BUMS OUT!!!

      • DaveH

        Ditto, Harold.

      • http://zzzz Preston

9/17/10, It’s all about power & corruption. These hacks, prez included, won’t give up anything without a fight. Look at NY; Rangel get’s swept right back into Congress. ~~~ Preston Weiters, Jr.

      • DaveH

I hadn’t heard that, Preston, but it doesn’t surprise me.
        I agree with this guy:
        http://mises.org/daily/4125

      • Christin

        Preston,
You are right about the fight that has and will continue to ensue everytime we stand up for our rights and try to take our country back.
They got in this “game” to win and never let go.

Can’t believe Rangel is STILL in the running. The people in his district must be dummies to vote for a criminal. I thought I saw a younger nice black guy running against him. Wonder what became of him? Hey, NY get it together.

      • Paul

I said it before and I’ll say it again, the only way to get these bozos out of office is to do what the constitution says and that’s to IMPEACH them all and remove them in the one way they don’t like and that being with the use of the LAW. Since they don’t respect the law then we have to make the law work for us and against them. After all it is us against them and we have something they don’t have and that is the law. We have the Law of GOD and we have the constitution that is working in our favor so lets use the darn laws and IMPEACH and remove them under the law and with the law. In that way they have no defense and that is the way it should be with them(congress) having no defense. The biggest problem is getting everybody together on this the more people you have the better it is. So lets use the constitution to help our selves and put these bozos and jerks where they belong and that being in prison.

      • Gerry

        Harold -

I agree with you. There is a viable alternative to the current bunch of bums we have in office. The Constitution Party backs the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights 100%.

Go to constitutionparty.com to find out the platform of the Constitution Party.

        Check it out!

    • slickporsche

They only use it when suits their purpose. Other wise I have heard it called” oh that rag”,or “that outdated fairytail” etc.

      • ts01

        i totally agree.

    • Big Ugly

We have sent it to them ….. they still ignore it.

Any ‘elected official’ that refuses to obey the LAW OF THE LAND, must be removed from office, by force if necessary.

      • Gerry

        Big Ugly

We have an excellent oppoirtunity in November to get rid of all the unwanted bums in Washington. Check out the Constitution Party. Go to constitutionparty.com to discover the best alternative to our current 2 party (corrupt) system of government. The Republican Party was a “third” party when Abraham Lincoln was elected.

        Check it out!

    • Ric

If an actual copy of the Constitution was ever given to an elected official the document would just be handed over to their favorite activist judge to be nullified.

  • DaveH

It would be like Heaven on Earth (or as close as we humans can get to it).

    • a progressive nightmare

agreed! Best document ever conceived by the human mind, and of course, directed by GOD.

      • third party

I DON’T KNOW ABOUT GOD WRITING ANY OF THOSE,BUT A FEW INTELLIGENT MEN,WHOM WERE FAMILIAR WITH TYRANNY,AND CROOKEDNESS OF MEN IN ABSOLUTE POWER.

    • Richard Pawley

Well said! Of course the poet said, “A man’s reach should exceed his grasp, or what’s a Heaven for?” In addition to keeping our powder dry as Chip says, one should also have a few months supply of non-perishable food, the kind that doesn’t go bad in 20 or 30 years if stored in a cool dry place. Inflation alone will pay for it and you won’t have to wait that long, you can be sure. Some think food will triple in less than three years. Freeze dried packed in nitrogen, that sort of thing. You can purchase complete meals or individual cans or large buckets of meats and grains, and powdered eggs and all kinds of fruits and berries and vegetables. It’s probably not organic and may just be typical food with pesticide residue and GMO but if you are willing to pay more you can find a few things that are organic and not genetically modified. Someone could get rich by packaging such foods that are heirloom quality and no weird laboratory concoctions. If you store sugar, make it cane sugar or raw honey, not ordiary sugar as that is beet sugar and is now genetically modified. Avoid soybeans and soybean oil, canola oil (also invented in a lab). Stay as close to nature as you can. Peanut oil isn’t bad, coconut oil is better. If you are blessed to live in the country increase the size of your garden. Gold is still going up but you can’t eat it. A six weeks food supply is a minimum, six months will be a blessing, and 6 years if you are rich. I know a professor who sold all his gold and bought a five year food supply. Don’t go crazy, and don’t overpay. There is time enough to learn but lean years are coming, even if we throw all the bums out we can in six plus weeks. They have squandered to much money for there not to be inflation in food and imported goods. We have a little time left to learn but not a great deal. May God bless you, and even if you don’t believe in Him, He believes in you.

      • Richard Pawley

Sorry, I got a little carried away there and off the topic but so many people are not prepared and many are not even interested in learning. One of the reasons we must change Congress is the kind of bills that they are trying ram through, SB 510 that would regulate your garden, among other things, and if you traded the eggs you raise for potatoes your neighbor raises, and SB 1689 that could have been crafted by the UN. It effectively nudges communities to push people towards the cities and out of the country and suburbs. “Sustainable Housing” is the reason the UN and the elitists in Washington are for this. Clearly UN-Constitutional. Since we can’t get them to obey the Constitution we can un-elect them and send them home. I like the freedoms that God gave us and the Constitution espouses. If we want to keep them we must vote these power hungry and greedy career politicians out of office and finish the job in two years and replace them with regular people the way the founding fathers intended. May God bless us all. We are really going to need His input to keep our country together. Many are praying and miracles are happening. The old line Democrats and Republicans will not go down easily but our bankrupt nation demands it. We can never pay all we owe and who is going to loan us the money to keep operating. If I had money I would surely not buy a U.S. Bond for Congress to just squander the money. They are going to go hungry too (some of them) because some of them are are too ignorant to realize how they are destroying the country. They can be replaced as Massachusetts and Delaware and Kentucky and Alaska has shown us. We can elect new people. YES, WE CAN! VOTE and convince your neighbor to vote too!

      • http://personalliberty beth

Very informative and completely true, thank you for the advice on food rations, and I agree that the founders wanted the average American to take part in Government, they never intended for pols to serve 20 to 50 yrs. in office, they get greedy and continue to thrive for more and more power at the expense of us all by losing touch with the average joe. We need term limits for all politians, no life time pensions and insurance coverage, when they leave office they should live the way we all do. We need more George Washingtons and other great founders again. Let’s all pray, God will hear us.
