Obama Address Marks The End Of Combat In Iraq

September 3, 2010 by

Obama address marks the end of combat in IraqMarking the end of combat missions in Iraq, President Barack Obama addressed the nation Tuesday, saying that it is time for the country to "turn the page," and begin focusing more attention on domestic issues.

Obama spent much of the address speaking about the troubled economy, saying that the war in Iraq had pulled many resources away from this issue, and that the U.S. could now initiate an economic commitment equal to the scale and determination of a military campaign, according to The Associated Press.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said that the move to end combat missions in Iraq shows that Obama has kept his campaign promise to end the war. "In doing so, we are moving closer to the day when Iraq’s future rests solely in the hands of the Iraqi people."

However, not everyone agreed with these sentiments. House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) criticized the President’s leadership. He said that there had been a lot of talk in recent months about ending the military phase of the operation, "but we haven’t talked much about winning the war in Iraq," according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

i41; Bush gave so many inteligent speeches I would think you were his speach writer.

    • eddie47d

Jopa; i41 and sc are twins from different parents. Sounds impossible but they both fell off the same banana wagon in their informative years and have never recovered. (that’s a long time ago). Their name calling and disrespect for Obama’s name is “legend” on this site.Their thought process is always spastic (sadistic) but predictable. So much for functional standards! They both live in the same monkey house and eat those same old bananas.Yuck! So we know something else has turned to mush!

When the military must contend with elected wimpy idoits, who don’t read or really know what their are imposing on the fighting troops. Their enemies no how to take engagement rules and use them against our troops. Too many pacifists in the beltway are dumber than first graders, in a park setting, or should I say, just look at the school yard seting of no dodge ball somebody might have hurt feelings. That pusified weinered thinkinggets our troops killed everytime. I get to listen to my kids and extended family members, tell who stupid, feel good, garbage that comes out of the beltway, andit goes all the way to the marxist, muslim, moron, mule and his radical idoits inserting their beleifs on trrops. Just go back to 2007 when the socialist dems, watered down the rules of engagement. If we are going to fight, get in and fight to win, something socialist democrats have a genetic flaw for understanding.

  • Deborah

We lost the war. Unconditional surrender. Only explanation. Ask your senators!

  • http://gmail i41

Thomas, don’t bet the bet the farm on it. The worse his numbers get ,and the faster the socialist dems dislike their falling numbers. Omoron will invent some big problem and declare martial law. With all the muslim palistian terrorists in the USA and also the mosque for the pedophile muslims, don’t be surprised if it will not be in our borders. Onumnut will change or give the terrorist bros of his new tags. Instead of Arabs, the new name will be sand mayrters, or the niggaredly nomads of the desert.

      • eddie47d

You’re Obama insults are lame and you should be helping to find solutions to ending Bush’s wars.I know that won’t happen.

I didn’t think I had to. I thought you progressive goofs said that Nobama had all the answers!!! Oh, that’s right, that was yesterday and tomorrow it will be still a different story like “I almost had it stopped then Bush started it up again!!!

HIS SPECIALTY IS WHINNING, COMPLAINING, POINTING FINGERS, BLAMING THE PREVIOUS EMPLOYEE BUSH, THIS NEW EMPLOYEE OBAMA HAS HAD THIS JOB FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS, HIRED BY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. IT IS TIME TO GET A NEW EMPLOYEE, NEW PRESIDENT. HILLARY WAS RIGHT, OBAMA HAS NO EXPERIENCE,

  • http://gmail i41

Onumnutts cann’t seem to find the right teepromonter to read off. Bush was such a much better speaker, than the marxist muslim moron mule, Omoron cann’t put a sentence together with the telepromonter, axelweed had too write it for the muslim, and hope now one asks a question that hasn’t been approved. It is um, uh, um, well um, sounds just like a cotton picking feild hand. The war would have ended sooner if the socialist democrats hadn’t kept changing the rules of engsagement. Something The National Socialist Democrat Union Party just cann’t get it through their communist skulls. Tea and crumpits just don’t win wars.

S.C. We should all be so lucky.

Let us remind The Anointed One that since he didn’t spend any of his precious time in Iraq or Afghanistan showing our military forces how to fight (or win or survive), he needs to take care of his own healthcare after he leaves the White House.
He said our military forces should fund their own healthcare. So does that mean The Anointed One will fund HIS own healthcare? Nobody ‘volunteered’ him to run for office, move into the White House or pretend that he has any military skills.
Fair is fair, Anointed One. Once again, your world-class arrogance is showing. Iran needs community organizers. Start packing, and renew that elusive pasport, too.

  • Claire

Okay, Obama has pulled troops from Iraq–I thought this was what everyone wanted? Now there is [offensive word removed] that this has happened. I have harped for about this situation for a long time. America should never have gotten involved in the first place. These middle east countries have carried on like idiots for years. They aren’t going to stop their fighting. Personally, I say get out of those stupid countries entirely, bring all of our troops home and never look back. Take care of our troops and America first.

    • thinking

reminds us of Korea, Vietnam and so many other places we go into to save the people and failed. Why are we not leaving Afghanistan? We are pouring billions into there and Pakistan and Egypt and…
Will the next place be Iran?

      • Carole Howell

        Thinking says,

Of course you do not really think we ever go in to save people, or free people do you? How do you save or free them by slaughtering them in the streets of their cities, towns and villages.

By freeing them, do you mean destroying their homes, so they will be free to roam and go hungry?

      • eddie47d

Carole; We sure do kill allot of people in order to save them.Human madness.

      • http://naver samurai

Actually, we did complete the mission in Korea. The ROK is a free and thriving nation. So, I guess you can say that we won there. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

      • Bob

Thinking We have to guard the Poppy Fields and Lithium mines. We wouldn’t be satisfied letting someone else make some money.

    • Claire

Whoops—I said Bit…..–that was the offensive word. I should have said “complaining” — Sorry.

  • TAKE BACK AMERICA

    He kept his promise.

    • http://naver samurai

Not really. He won’t pull all the trops from Iraq. Watch and see what unfolds. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

      • eddie47d

It would be nice if all troops could come home. The Korean war ended 57 years ago and we still have 38,000 troops there. So in essence the Iraq War has stopped. There will be no 38th parallel to protect our troops so they still could be venerable. To say Obama has not ended combat operations is wrong, in comparison to Korea. The circumstances are just different and all wars are played out differently.

  • jopa

It is so nice to hear we are leaving a force of troops behind, probably to sweep all the rose petals that were tossed upon our troops during the liberation or maybe to haul out the boxes of oil revenue money that is going to pay for this war.Perhap they will work at George Bush Palace(the us enbassy)in Iraq.Good one to google’Cost $1 billion dollars, larger than the vatican, swimming pools, beauty parlors, barber shops and everything you could find in a small city.I see it going the same route as the embassy in Iran.

JOPA!! Put down that jug and get back in that straight jacket!!!! Man, I either get a big raise or I’m quitting!!!

  • Curtis Bostic

well this political puppet obummer is doing what the string pullers want him to do,pull the wool over the public’s eyes

    • eddie47d

You think all troops pulled out after WWII ended. I wish we never got involved in Iraq but some troops do have to stay to help mantain order. They could all be home next year unless Iraq falls apart again. No guarantees that Iraq can hold itself together.

    • Norm

      Curtis Bostic
The only puller around here is you, and isn’t a string.

        Curtis,
sorry man but after I told norm that you were trying to pull the koolaid jug from his lips he had to post that!!! I received this from a friend’s family member. The troops are speaking out.
    *******
For your information, a Brigade consists of from 3,000 to 5,000 soldiers.
Proof that “O” and his puppet media is still lying to the American people.
Do we really want our young people serving under a pathological liar?
    For Honesty and Integrity,

Subject: They are up to their same old tricks again, change the name game.

I just received this from a friend who received it from a family member. He wanted people to know what is really happening.

    Hey everybody,

I just wanted to send a quick update and give y’all the REAL story on what’s going on over here with the troop withdrawal. The picture is of my crew and I on a break during a mission. The guy to the far left is my gunner (Burks) and the guy in the middle is my driver (Mizell). They go with me on every mission and are great guys. The reason I’m sending this out is because I have had a few people ask if I left Iraq early because all of the combat troops are out of Iraq and I wanted to let everyone know the real deal.

It’s kind of ridiculous how the news is saying that the last of the “combat” troops are out of Iraq because of Pres Osama ( I mean Obama ). He says that it was his campaign promise. Take our Brigade for example. We were originally called a HBCT ( Heavy Brigade Combat Team). Well since Obama said he would pull all of the “combat” troops out by Aug all they did before we left was change our name from a HBCT to a AAB ( Advise and Assist Brigade ). We have the same personnel/equipment layout as before and are doing the same missions. The ONLY difference is that they changed our name from a HBCT to an AAB and that’s how he is getting away with saying that he has pulled all of the “combat” troops out. It is really ridiculous what he’s doing and he has ticked a lot of people off. And it’s funny how the media is buying all of it to.

So no the last combat troops are not out of Iraq we are still here. There are other Brigades just like ours that are doing the same missions that are still over here. Sorry for going on about it but we are just sitting over here watching it and are like “You’ve got to be kidding me!” So anyway now you know the REAL story so that’s why I’m not coming back early. You have to watch those liberal, their sneaky! Anyways I hope everyone is doing well and I’ll see you soon!

    • Claire

I am to the point where I believe half of what I see and none that I hear.

      • http://naver samurai

        Same here, Claire!

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Claire,
If the government does it and I see it I don’t believe one tenth of what I see!!!

  • Ron Light

I guess we have turned over the country to the terrorists and pulled in our horns. What will we say when these terrorists take control of Iraq? Another Iran in the making!!

  • Deborah

Bob…Well, domestic issues seems to be more than the economy he’s bringing down. Again, good input!
I called my congressman over a few issues. I asked a particular question and found out for certain what is going on with the US.
There are more than enough powerful hints out here to ask the same question from your congress person (s).
    ASK THE QUESTION!

  • H Kirk Rainer

    At least…
    - (4) permanent US military bases
    - 50K military
    - 100K contractors
    …remain in Iraq.

    “The End…” – of what?

    • Deborah

Dumbing down of our US Citizens that buys into every word he says.

  • az wayne

Try obseving facts instead of listening to more propoganda. Also look back a couple years bush scheduled removal of troops, not ODUMBO. The only problem is, ask military people you know. Why are armored troops being deployed to southern Iraq? What do you think armored units do? Combat phase is over? Words are just words. Never more true.

    • Viktor Leben

      az wayne,

If what you say is true those tanks are to overrun the Iranian Naval bases if war breaks out. That will allow the flattops to come in and finish off the Iranian military sites …

Tehran should counter by deploying anti-tank weapons – like air force based antitank weapons – right ? Or reprogramming their SAM batteries ….

Then forward deploy their KLUB anti-ship missiles to take out the flattops. Possibly launching them from subs, oil tankers (concealed) or some other type of navy vessel ….

Our country is in bad shape because we’ve allowed big government, libs, etc., to take over and practically override our Constitution. We have pushed God out of society, warped and or trying to destroy the Constitution, won’t dismantle our welfare state, etc. What part of this do you not understand? You must be one of those many traitors and cowards we need to get out of this country.

If that isn’t satire, you are so full of BS that I can smell you from here!!!

  • Marilyn

I want to see our troops come home from Iraq. That is a major accomplishment. However, it is what the President does not tell the American people that concerns me. The war in Iraq is not over. Will this be another Vietnam? Are our allies pulling their troops from Iraq? In another breath, will our troops that will kiss the ground in the United States be sent to Afganistan? or worse? If it is money spent on Iraq that is troubling the President, why has he not taken major steps to stop Illegal Immigration from the southern border of the United States. Illegals have cost far more than the war in Iraq!! They continue to rob the American Tax Payers. Arizona and now Sheriff Joe Law Suits are for what reason? Is that really stopping the Illegals from entering the United States? I think not. If the Feds want to talk about Illegal’s Human Rights, what about the Human Rights of the people who live in the border States and other States? Are not the Human Rights of American Citizens being trampled upon by the Illegals? You bet they are. But that does not seem to concern the President. I digress as usual.

    • Viktor Leben

Sheriff Joe is probably going to retire, he’s getting old – no one will replace him.

Arizona = atzlanzona ! Maybe you guys should move to New Hampshire ! I’m up here in Connecticut and Hartford is a sanctuary city. All them illegals where coats and long sleeve shirts/jackets when the temperature dips to 80 degrees ! It’s really funny seeing them wearing wool ski caps being cold in the summer !!

You move further enough North, the cold will get rid of them…

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Viktor,
Unfortunately, you are wrong. I hear even Alaska has illegal Mexicans there!!!

  • Daniel Boyd

Norm, That’s just us. What about the millions of Iraqis displaced killed or injured. Their infrastructure distroyed. People tend to forget that,”There but for the grace of God go I”

    • Warrior

Yes, they were soo much better off with Saddam. Well, the sunnis anyway.

  • Norm

Excuse the hiccup, what I meant was:

Somebody should tell congressman Boner that we haven’t won anything in Iraq.
    The Iraq war:
    Cost over 4000 US dead and many more maimed and wounded;
    Cost nearly 1 trillion $ in mostly borrowed money;
    Created an unstable and generally unfriendly government in Iraq;
    Destroyed Iran’s worst enemy and created an ally of Iran;
    Created an Iraqi military with uncertain abilities and questionable loyalties;
Has not made the US any safer and in fact has stirred more anti-American sentiments.

When the rest of the US troops (50000) and US “contractors”(many) leave, the current Iraq government doesn’t stand a chance of survival.
Some Muslim fanatic, probably Shiite, will take control and unite with Iran.
    Good job Bush!

    • Viktor Leben

You know Norm, those are good points ! We shouldn’t have gone to Afghanistan too.

It would have been a win win scenario !

      1) If more terrorist attacks happened then people would buy more GUNS !!!
So the Repubs would be happy ! But on the other hand if we had not invaded Afghanistan/Iraq and

      2) If it didn’t make us any safer and their were not anymore attacks then we would have had enough money for healthcare !!! I mean that’s what the Europeans do, they spend squat on their military and put it into healthcare … so the Dems would be happy !!!

Norm..I think Boehner was trying to make the point that the war can’t be considered “won” until we have a stable Iraq. That includes a military that can protect all of it’s citizens as well as a stable government to govern. Maybe he can loan him our constitution since he doesn’t think we need it over here any longer.

The day Iraq has a stable goverment is the day the civil war ends with a religious weirdo in charge.
The 9/11 terrorists invested less than a million $ and very few of their lives in their ugly deed. You know what it cost the US. Tell me who won.

      • Carole Howell

        Norm,

You are right, we will be in Iraq for decades and decades. We hardly ever really leave anywhere. We lost and so did the Iraqis, but big corporations who were involved won very big. Very big indeed at tax payers expense.

End of combat operations ? Tell that to the men and women of the 101st. @ Fort Campbell Ky. Who are getting ready to mobilize to retrieve equipment from Iraq.
