Experts Recommend Antioxidant-Rich Diet To Protect Heart Health

September 3, 2010 by

Experts recommend antioxidant-rich diet to protect heart healthObesity has become a problem that many in the United States say has become an epidemic. The number of individuals who are significantly overweight has grown exponentially, causing many to call for improved efforts to address the situation.

Some health experts say that a diet rich in antioxidants, similar to what is commonly known as the Mediterranean diet, may provide heart health benefits that could lessen the burden of the growing obesity epidemic on nation’s healthcare system.

"All research suggests that the healthiest diet is the traditional Mediterranean diet," Tricia M. Sinek, manager of the Community Cancer Program at the Franciscan Health System in Washington, told the Tacoma News Tribune.

"Every state in the United States reports that 30 percent of their population is obese."

She added that she recommends this diet — which is rich in vegetables, fruits, nuts and fish — to patients who are concerned about their weight or who have gained an unhealthy amount of fat.

Studies from the U.S. Agriculture Research Service have shown that carotenoids — a type of antioxidant commonly found in plants associated with the Mediterranean diet — may play a significant role in heart health.

We the people only have our selves to blame.I agree with Carole H but I have to add that it is an international force too. Probably more to that than we believe. The corporations Carole Howell refers to are international in scope. I hope we the people have woke up and make huge changes in Washington come Nov 3 2010. The problem with the American diet is the government and that mentioned comment by Carole Howell. We expect the Government to take care of our health this is wrong. Our health is our fault. The information is out there. We just have to look and dig for it. Cause the big brother is not looking out for us. I believe on of the biggest factors in the contribution to obesity in this country is HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. Created by ADM. I believe. Make no mistake about it HFCS & GMF’s is the destruction of our health AND BIG, BIG, BIG BUCKS TO THEIR MAKERS.

We have to wake up impose term limits Vote The Incumbents Bums out of office.

Socialist democrats looking the other way, remember when both the Senate and House were controlled by Republicans, and they looked the other way? remember that?

The trouble with our government is it is owned and controlled by big business people, it does not matter who Dem or Rep, everything will stay the same until that real problem is addressed.

Haven’t you figured that out by now?

And also the latest antioxident rich food is beef with marbling. Why isn’t that fact out for public information. Because chicken industry is controlled by vertically by TYSON Foods. It means Tyson owns the chicks, the feed company, the contracts so the build owners and worker can not sell to any processing plant but a Tyson slaughterhouseusing Tyson approve scales abd contractor will take Tysons weights. Almost like communist slave labor camp of Russia. Smithfeild Foods has vertical control of just about all pork producers, remember in the 80′s when pork got the suddenly approve other white meat, that was when there was 5 slaughter houses.. Now there is only 4 livestock slaughter houses, because packers have massive capitive control of live liverstock they own. There was a bill passed in 1920 called the Stocker and Packer Feed yard act thaty was made law, in the late teens there were only 5 slaughter houses. Congress will not enforce this law because Con-Ag, Contennital Grain, ADM, Tyson and Smithfeild give million as lobbyist to prevent the law being enforced. These clowns want to just have paid workers doing their flunky work of raising livestock that isn’t theirs. These big slobs use shots to have animals lay, farrow, calve at the corporation conveince, after the anima;s birth, animals are weaned and given more shot to speed growth and get it meat as fast to the store as fast as possible. Check out the cow/calf organization called R+CALF that started in Mt. several years ago. It is now organized in every state to protect and protest the idea of 4 meat suppliers having total control over food production. USDA (the government) and the big 4 want control over everything from livestock to swinging sides. Socialist democrats have been looking the other way for years and still are trying to choke of the private producer. Chech out what happened in Ft. Collin Colo. at a government hearing.

The problem with American diet is that they don’t eat enough good food with their vitamins…..

And the main problem is dead a-sed disease of the government meddling no hurt feelings. No exercise. no sweating, doing an artsy fartsy work place, no physcal energy styled work, just go to school and college non stop and theorizing sit on your rear, will make fat lazy idoits, time after time. A pusified work force. It makes a fat lazy slob of fairies wimpy on vacation endlessly. Makes the people weinies and faggots with girly/boys being bossed by women, insteaded agressive, go getum done hard boiled work force. Just look at the work force, of don’t get your hands dirty and think about college grads over educated out of work.

In reply to Joe: It’s not “too many carbs”, it’s empty carbs (refined sugar and refined grains), and it’s not “too many fats”, it’s fats which are trans-fats and other artificially produced fats.

The point here is that natural foods as exemplified by the Mediterranean diet provides the needed nutrition including the roughage to provide subsistence, naturally.

  • Joe R.

The main problem with the way the average American eats is that they eat far too many carbs, fats and junk food (fast food from the arches) and do not eat veggies and other good foods.
