Poll: Support For Universal Healthcare Falling

August 31, 2010 by

Poll: Support for universal healthcare falling Less than six months after President Obama signed the health reform package there are signs that public support for universal healthcare coverage may be falling among Americans.

Earlier polls showed that although older people have always been skeptical about such a measure — which would require taxpayer funding — their younger counterparts may now increasingly share this sentiment.

Specifically, the average yearly amount adult Americans were willing to pay for universal healthcare fell from $201 in February 2010 to $123 this summer, according to LightSource Poll, conducted by KJT Group, a consulting and research company specializing in the healthcare marketplace.

Overall, it found that only about 32 percent of Americans are willing to pay any extra money each year to achieve universal healthcare coverage. Although there was no party affiliation difference in the average amount people were willing to pay, Republicans were less likely to want to contribute any amount at all.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which was passed and signed into law last March, is expected to expand the ranks of insured Americans and prevent insurance companies from denying coverage based on preexisting conditions, when most of its provisions come into full effect in 2014.ADNFCR-1961-ID-19932604-ADNFCR

TBA, everything and every program, Democraps create or try to do, alway ends up as a giant SNAFU. They never stay in projected budget, or stay with in the parimeters that was supposed to. Just like the federal budget the government employees wages and bennies. Just give us the facts where I’m wrong!

  • Gene

You are a typical liberal with your short talking point replys. I have forgotten more Government and constitutional law than you will ever know. I have prepaired my family for the coming disaster that will be very unpleasent until things turn around. I may be wrong but Ill bet thast you have done nothing, which is typical of a liberal. you will be waiting for others to come to your rescue.you will be waiting for a long time. Its going to be almost enjoyable to watch you and your socialist marxist communist friends flounder.

    • TAKE BACK AMERICA

When all else fails yell louder. You do yourself a disservice claiming knowledge you clearly don’t have. I would be curious to learn how you “prepared” your family. I imagine much like those who dug bomb shelters in their back yards over half a century ago. Your willingness to bet on my participation is humorous. As for the name calling, that’s where people of your ilk always end up. Typical, I hope so.

Bush is not my buddy. I dispise him as much as the Dems. I walked away from both parties years ago. As for being anti American you are saying that if I do not support the corrupt system that im not a Patriot.you see yourself as a Patriot because you do support the corrupt system. Give me a break. look around the country. it is socialism that has been ruining the country. All of the States are in trouble but if you notice the more socialist a State is the deeper in trouble they are. California for example is a basket case.A recent study of migration into and out of California has shown that most of those that are leaving are the producers.( As the framers of the Constitution said they are voting with their feet.) Of those arriving they are heavy with takers.( Those who want to live off others)the Governor was asked where most of the tax moneys comes from. he replied that over the years it traditionally came from the rich. he was then asked if the rich ever revolt. he replied that sometimes they take their money and leave the state. (I would call that a revolt)in The news yesterday the California legislature revealed that of every dollar of tax payers money that is spent 80 cents goes to pay the salaries benifits and retirement of the state government workers. Government workers are needed to a certain extent to carry out the business of the state but in Californias case it is not sustainable. so to fix California and the other socialist states that are in serious trouble Obama decides to send Aid to the states.this act was totally unconstitutional. The states are sovereign to each other and to the Federal Govt.there is no provision in the Constitution for the Fed. Govt. to help the State Govts.it is not up to the citizens of those States whose legislatures have been responsible to bail out the states that have floundered because of their looney tunes legislatures. and where does he tell us that the money is going to go. you got it! to the teachers police and firefighters.(always funded by the State Govt.)of course this rewards those unions that supported him in his election and it props up socialism. (for a time) It is eventually going to collapse and the people to blame are the California State Legislators that have for decades bought votes with taxpayer money. There is a old saying that when you rob Peter to pay Paul you can count on Paul to vote for you. Please dont respond. It is clear that you will never understand the founders approach to freedom and individual liberty. this has all been an excercise in futility. Its like a person trying to teach a pig to sing. it tries the persons patience and it irritates the hell out of the pig.

    • TAKE BACK AMERICA

I understand the last thing you wanted was a reply. But it was the first thing you needed. Then again I agree with you, you will not budge, won’t listen, don’t read anything you don’t agree with. I don’t want to hear you sing but it’s sad seeing that you can’t even carry a tune.

      • http://naver samurai

Way tooooooooo much liberal crack. Do you think it is time to check yourself into rehab?

  • Gene

You cant understand because you are a socialist, you honestly believe that others are responsible to take care of you. our country was fine before the early nineteen twenties progressive movement began to socialize America. they knew that they could never amend the Constitution to permit their socialist programs so they went the next best route. the progressives realized that its so much easier to put their liar for hire progressive judges on the bench and have them criminally rule that the Constitution means something that it does not. You dont understand me because I am a Patriot. in the great words of Thomas Paine “It is the duty of the patriot to protect his country from its Government. If you will look at the history of the country it is obvious that as we have become more and more socialist our economy has become worse and worse. Socialism does not work. it has never worked. it kills incentive. Here’s some definitions. Capitolism is the unequal distribution of wealth. Communism is the equal distribution of misery. Socialism is communism by installment and a socialist is a communist with patience. After all the crap collapses that was caused by democrats over the decades buying votes with tax payers money (they wrote checks that they now cannot cash) the country is going to come back stronger than ever. We are going to go through a lot of pain and the longer we wait the more painful it is going to be.I have a very bright outlook for the future when once again productive Americans can go back to work and realize the fruits of their own labor.

    • TAKE BACK AMERICA

Gene, you are NOT a patriot and said it in your previous post. “I am going to collect as much as I can in an effort to help collapse the system”. You are as Anti American as they come and will only find contentment in its demise. Your not fooling anyone. Your buddy Bush ran up over 7 trillion in debt before he left, where was your voice then?

      • http://naver samurai

Why are you sounding like a ranting fool? Who are you to say who is a patriot and who isn’t? Where do you like? Are you really an American or some plant put here to “stir the waters?” You are also wrong about Bush, you idiot! Bush did have a 2 trillion dollar debt, but it has ballooned to way more than 13 – 16 trillion under Obama bin Laden! Get your facts straight before you post! Bush was a heck of a lot better than the terrorist we have now. State your sources and some real facts. Ooooooops! I forgot that a lib, commie, gay loving, baby killing person, like you, don’t believe in doing that. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

      • TAKE BACK AMERICA

Bush entered office with a 4.7 trillion debt and left with 12.3.
Anyone who says “I am going to collect as much as I can in an effort to help collapse the system” concerning social security is not a patriot.
Take a moment and do your own research. “Bush did have a 2 trillion dollar debt” Your an idiot that calls names instead of checking facts.

      • http://naver samurai

Just need to look in the mirror when you say that. If you don’t think the debt is 3 – 4 times larger then when Bush was in office, you are sadly mistaken. Let’s also not forget that Obams bin Laden has borrowed sooooooooo much money from China that if they called in all the loans we owe them, our country will be worse than bankrupt and what do you think will happen then? FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

  • Gene

If the Govt will return the moneys they have stolen from me in Soc. Sec. taxes over the years with compound interest that I would have earned in private investment, I will do exactly that. otherwise I am going to collect as much as I can in an effort to help collapse the system. the sooner it goes under and we start over with a Constitutional Govt the better of we are all going to be.

    • TAKE BACK AMERICA

Gene, and you left out The faster we’ll be a third world nation. Can’t help but criticize your anti American, I am going to collect as much as I can in an effort to help collapse the system “, sentiment.

Well said, Joe H. Well said and true.

  • Gene

There is a need for health care reform but not obamacare. you have a right to obtain health care. you do not have a right to have health care. there is a simple test that can be applied to determine if something can be a right. the test is this. (does it require something of someone else) if it does it cannot be a right as you are interfearing with someone elses rights. this is known as a self evident truth. If you look at the bill of rights, not one requires anything of anyone else. the bill of rights requires the Government not to do various things. nothing could be simpler to understand. The people of this country that have become accustomed to having Government steal money from others to take care of themselves will never understand this basic concept.

    • TAKE BACK AMERICA

Gene, You need to walk your talk and when the time comes deny Social Security.

President Obama was elected on the campaign issue of healthcare for all Americans and the people spoke with their vote. The last poll I had seen there was a dramatic increase of support for the HC bill but polls seem to vary depending on who is pushing their agenda and what site you are looking at.I would have to say voting Americans are the winner here.

    • http://aol wayne a

JOPA,i have probably seen at least 20-25 polls in the last 3 months and NOT ONE poll had a majority supporting obamacare!the closest i seen was 46% supporting it.and yes obama ran on healthcare but Americans didn’t want healthcare crammed down our throats with the economy at it’s worst.Americans didn’t want healthcare that, the only way dem could get enough votes to pass it was to meet behind closed doors without the rep. or media.American didn’t want a healthcare bill that had to be passed before congress could see whats in it as pelosia said !

      • Karolyn

You can’t believe the polls anyway.

  • Gene

Taxes for social security were gathered for the first time in January of 1937. The US Supreme Court in 1937 ruled that all moneys collected with the social security tax must be placed in the treasury general fund along with all other taxes collected. the court ruled that not a single dollar could be earmarked (set aside) for social security. The criminal Congress in order to hoodwink the public created a special IOU to be placed in what they said was a trust fund
For example lets say that the Govt took in 1000 dollars with the social security tax. 500 dollars is spent on current recipients and the remaining 500 dollars is placed in the treasury with all other tax money and is spent on whatever the Congress wants to spend it on. the criminal Congress then creates a 500 dollar IOU and places it in the phoney trust fund.
Every body is happy right! NOT SO FAST! when the time comes that the Govt. is taking in less money than it is paying current recipients (sound familiar) they are going to have to redeem those IOU’S. Because the Govt. has no way to create real wealth (only the private sector can do that)to raise the money to redeem the IOU’S the Govt is going to Tax the citizen”s once again or they will print the money thus stealing the money from the citizens with inflation.
I rest my case. there has never been a Social Security trust fund with any real assets. its all been a fraud from the beginning. the whole crooked scheme brought to you by Democrats of course.

  • Phoenix

The health care bill, is a just a new tax and spend
    bill.
Health care took a back seat, to the Obama administrations
(spread the wealth philosophy) as it relates to health care.
Experts are continually saying that the bill will not work.
It will raise taxes and lower the quality of health care.
People will in many cases take advantage of the bills
weaknesses, and cost the economy more.
It WILL ADD TRILLIONS TO THE DEFICIT !! Contrary to the
selling points claimed by the bills supporters.

    • TAKE BACK AMERICA

It would be seriously hard to lower the standard of our healthcare. Look up where we stand in the world with infant mortality.

        Take Back?????
you think some of the life saving techniques used on kids these days would exhist on obama care??? Do you think his plan will spur invention or professionalism?? Have you ever had any dangerous surgeries? Do you think those procedures would even be in use under a plan like Nobamacare??? Don’t fool yourself!!!

  • Donna

Yeah, the welfare queens with the 20 kids and the lon fingernailos well manicured …..still going on…their hands out for the check! Also, look on the highways and the city streets at the young set who do not work but they have the latest gadgets and the low rider cars with the flashy wheels! Who pays for those!
I’m tired of paying for the misfits who do not know what causes pregnancy and those youngsters who do not try and get a job!
I don’t want my dollars to go for the free loaders of society!
Obama has done the working class conservative American it; but, that was the purpose! He has stolen from us…hard working Americans!

    • TAKE BACK AMERICA

Just like auto insurance, you pay for those who have no insurance. Who do you think has been paying for all those “welfare queens”? If I had a major medical emergency there would be a fair chance that I could end up in bankruptcy court. Medical bills are the number one cause of bankruptcy in America. The only way you can hold the opinion you have is that someone else pays for YOUR medical. I believe Healthcare reform is necessary. With a little education you would to.

      • http://naver samurai

Then the government can enact some laws dealing with the insurance companies and not force legislation (more than 60% of the people didn’t want!) down our throats. Why should I have to pay for someone who is to lazy to show self reliance and personal responsibility? Why should I also have to pay every month just to stay off of the program? To heck if I do and to heck if I don’t?

  • Gene

There is no Social Security trust fund. there has never been a trust fund. The US Supreme Court ruled in Helvering vs. Davis (1937) that Social Security is not an insurance program saying “the proceeds of both employee and employer taxes are to be paid into the treasury like any other internal revenue generally and are not earmarked in any way,”
In Fleming vs Nestor(1960) The Us Supreme Court said “to engraft upon the Social Security system a concept of accrued property rights would deprive it of the flexibility and boldness in adjustment to the ever changing conditions which it demands.”
Even the Social Security Administration is trying to back away from the lies it has told over the years.on its web site the Social Security Administration said that” entitlement to Soc. Sec. benifits is not a contractual right. adding “there has been a temptation throughout the programs history for some people to suppose that their FICA payroll taxes (taxes not contributions) entitle them to a benefit in a legal contractual sense. Congress clearly had no such limitation when creating the law.”
Well there you have it. Social security is not insurance and not a contract. Congress can adjust it or END IT at any time and no one has a legal leg to stand on.

    • GRANDPA 47

Franklin Poosevelt,a Democrat, introduced the Socia Secutity(FICA)Program. It stated 1.) That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary(now no longer volunyary.2.)That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program.(Now 7.65% on the first $90,000,and 15% on the first $90,000 if you’re self employed.) (3) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from theirincome for tax purposes each year.(no longer tax deductible).(4)That the money the participants put into the independent “trust fund” rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be to fund the Social Security Retiremant Program, and no other Goverment program.(Under President Johnson the money was moved to the General Fund and spent)and(5)That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.(Under Clinton and Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be taxed). Q:Which poloitical party took Social Sesurity from the independent “Trust Fund” and put it into the general fund so that the Congress could spend it? ANS:It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically controled House and Senate. Ques:Which poloitical party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security(FICA)withholding? ANS:The Denocratic Party. QUES:Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities? ANS:The Democratic Party, with AlGore casting the “tie-breaking” deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US. Ques:Which Poloitical Party decided to start giving annunity paymentd to immigrants? Ans: That’s right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.Immigrants moved into thia country, and at age 65,began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!

  • James

It’s easy to say “everybody should have adequate healthcare.” However, it isn’t that easy to do, financially. During the last two years of our lives, all sorts of medical tests and treatments are invoked, just to prolong life. This now accounts for 30-40% of all Medicare expenditures. That alone would bankrupt the system. Faced with that dilemma, Congress would then decide which healthcare services are necessary, and oulaw the rest. Eventually, Congress would decide what constitutes healthcare and what does not.

  • R.V.N.

Yeah, right… Support for any sensible and fair health care reform is falling…!? And love and affection for
the “good fellas” – the outrageously greedy insurance and drug companies, the banksters, all the useless and costly wars etc. is steadily growing…!? I am sure that more and more Americans will stop listening

There are 50 MILLION people in the US on Medicaid (medical welfare). There’s got to be a better and cheaper way. Medicare is at least partly paid for by the people who will eventually use it. Medicaid and the VA hospitals are pure taxpayer budens.

    • s c

N, are you a vet? I doubt you are, but I’m asking. You claim the VA is a ‘pure burden.’ So tell us how we can correct it. Are you aware that the VA gets its drugs discounted? Do you know what that means? I doubt it.
Do you think people can opt out of Medicare or Herr Obummer’s Hitlercare? I’d like to what planet you live on, as you seem to spend a lot of time commuting between earth and your home planet.
So make with the solutions, Einstein, or shut the hell up and get comfy under a nice rock between ‘commutes.’
Stock up on drugs while you can. When you learn how expendable you and your chums are, you’ll be pill-popping and mainlining as fast as you can. Life in the real world has a high price tag, contrary to what your programmers told you.

      • Jana

        SC,
You stated a very big truth. Even if you are wealthy and don’t need to be on Medicare, you are forced on it. If you would have a reversal of financial circumstances later, you would be greatly financially penalized for going into the Medicare program late. So they force you to do it at age 65.
They keep saying Medicare is a huge burden, but if they would go after those who are frauding Medicare, and if, as we have done when my mother had some issues, check out the bills and act like it is your own money that is going to pay these bills, you can generally find if there was an error or a double billing on something. This action should be taken, even if you have Insurance. Any type of fraud or even mistakes is what makes Insurance so expensive.

One of the ways the hospitals get you is they tell you they have to furnish the meds, even if you have some of them by perscrition in your possession. Then they charge big time for each pill.

      • Norm

        s c
You don’t have any choice about paying into medicare, but no one forces you to use it.
I have a private plan from a former employer that turned into a medicare supplimentry plan when I was old enough for Medicare.
It covers, drugs and part of what medicare doesn’t cover. If my expenses reach a certain max out of pocket level, It pays all. My wife still has the company’s full coverage because she’s to young for medicare.
I am a veteran (USAF) and used the VA’s tuition grants to get my BS degree. My employer(s) paid for my MS. I’ve never used the VA’s medicals, and don’t even know if I’m elegable. I feel their are plenty of more needy and deserving GIs out there.
My point with VA coverage was not that they don’t deserve it, it was that the taxpayers pay for it.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Norm,
you think those vets didn’t PAY into their VA health coverage???? They paid a lot more than you for the most part, bud!!!

Doctors making life and death decisions should NEVER be employees of the State.

    • Norm

      JC
They shouldn’t be beholden to the insurance companies either.
By the way, doctors aren’t employed by the government under the new law.

      • James

No, but they will be. Right now, many doctors dont take Medicare patients because of the inadequate compensation it provides. If Congress forces them to take Medicare patients, many of them will retire. New doctors coming on, will take these patients just to get their practice started, then they’ll be working for the government.

      • Norm

        James
Medicare has been my primary insurance for nearly 2 years, and I’ve been to five doctors (including second opinions). No one has refused medicare. These were all excellent doctors by the way, I am very fussy in that regard.
In fact I’ve have never heard of a doctor or hospital not accepting medicare. We did have a local hospital that refused Aetna for about a year however.

      • vicki
      • Jana

When my mother moved to be near me, I did find that a lot of the what you would call ‘Primary Doctors’, would not take a new patient that was on Medicare. Specialists do, thankfully. Anyway, we had to get her into an HMO that was for Sr.’s and it was fine. In fact it is excellent.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Norm,
The Mayo Clinic in, I believe, Arizona announced this year that as of the first of the year they would no longer be accepting medicare patients due to the amount of delay between filing and recieving payment and the amount they did pay didn’t cover costs let alone make for paying salaries!

      • http://?? Joe H.

      • Karolyn

I can’t see why doctors would refuse Medicare when so many of them are overbilling and getting away with it.

Agreed. They should stand or fall on their own merit without interference from Corporations or Government.

  • J.M.R.

i just don’t want the criminals in D.C. touch anything that has my money in it. wish i was young enough to see S.S. put in private hands with me being able to say where its invested. the government does a hell of a job a whole 1%, less what they steal.

    • Norm

The problem is that the government spent the surplus that social security created over the years. This number is in excess of a trillion dollars. If that money had been invested, through blind trusts, it would be worth much more now. In the process the invested cash would have been available for business and housing loans.
The social security distribution system is very well run and has low administrative expenses. It’s the US congress, of both parties who blew the surplus, that are at fault.

like i said norm let control my money as i can do a hell of a better job of it

So the only thing wrong is they (Congress) didn’t spend the money the way YOU think they should have. Tell me, since SS was raided and used for general funds, what evidence do you have that the money wasn’t already used for business and housing loans. Think Fannie, freddie, bail out 1,2,3,….

        vicki
You misunderstood me. The government should not have spent the money on anything.
My point was that the money should have been INVESTED by the SS administrators into profitable and “real” assets for SS.
It is Bizarre that social security taxes are kept separate from general taxes until they reach Washington. There they are stolen and thrown into the general fund, with only an IOU to prove they even existed. Shameful!

On this we are in agreement. Even if all they did was put the money in savings accounts gathering modest interest we all would have been much better off.

    Jeff, Jim, & SC,
As I recall the facts are very straight forward, this HCR Bill has never been about {Health Care,} its always been about “TOTAL Control and Power” over all of our lifes from day one.
This form of Health Care has been a 100% total failure in every country its ever been tried in, thats the facts straight out and they can not be denied no matter how thick the rhetoric from the radical left.

The facts are that our government is so corrupt that that corruption filters through every facet of our lifes in all forms.

Health Care is not a right, when its forced on a populace that then becomes a crimminal act, so much so that the only ones not able to see it break down into two groups.
One, the crimminals who support such.
Two, the groupies of the criminal element the ones who feel that everyone owes them something.

We have been fostering this second group for years now we call them the “UNWORKING Welfare Entitlement” crew, also known as the UWE.

Both of these units can argue their points with a razor sharpe edge, not unlike all criminals can.

Please do Keep in mind that 100% of all prisons are full of 99% of the people within them who in their own words; innocent of any crime. Even if DNA has them by the balls, let alone eye wittness, or even a film of them in the act.
All thats wrong and you can’t argue with them, as they have used the rationalization that they are innocent, thus it’s true.

Power is being able to control others lifes, in all respects, when the government can take funds from your bank account when they feel like it, or turn you away from the alledged care that you have paid for, or fine you for not allowing them to rob you, thats criminal power over your life.
Thats what was passed as health Care reform.

Of course support for this unconstitutional, anti-American crapola is falling. Schmuck is as schmuck does, people.
How can there be anyone left who doesn’t see this prez for the velvet-gloved thug he is? His galling, bone-deep arrogance makes Bubba Clinton seem like Mr. Rogers. I don’t care how it’s sugar-coated, folks.
Crap is crap. It doesn’t make any difference WHO is selling it. It’s crap now, and it will be crap as long as it’s being rammed down our throats. So what happened to progressives and their lofty standard they love to call CHOICE?

    • JeffH

The only ones surprised by this rejection is the MSM and the bleeding hearts.

      • Jim H.

Polls showed that the people were against the Health Care Reform Bill, before it was even voted on. Now that it’s here and even worse than imagined, why would the polls change, except to more people being against it?

I agree with you JeffH. You know how the MSM acts when their “messiah” doesn’t get his way. I’ll also bet that they wonder how could Virginia and Missouri go to court and beat this Osamacare. I hope that this country continues to wake up from this nightmare that we are currently having. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!
