The 4th Amendment: May It Rest In Peace

In Colonial America it was common for British soldiers, tax collectors and other representatives of the Crown to obtain a writ of assistance giving them the authority to enter any home, business or ship at any time of the day or night in search of contraband goods or to interrogate the residents and owners over payment of taxes or for most any other reason.

Writs of assistance were very vague search warrants and it was a simple procedure to obtain them. They could be had for any reason or no reason from the Colonial governor or from judges — all of whom held their positions at the whim of the King of England.

In 1761 James Otis Jr., the Advocate General of Massachusetts — whose job it was to defend the issuance of the writs in court — resigned his position and took the side of 63 Boston merchants in a court battle against the writs. He represented the merchants for free, and though he lost the case in a court stacked against him, he earned the title of patriot.

It was his five-hour speech in court that served “as the spark in which originated the American Revolution,” according to John Adams, who was sitting in the courtroom at the time.

“The child of independence was then and there born, every man of an immense crowded audience appeared to me to go away as I did, ready to take arms against writs of assistance,” Adams said.

The issue was such an important one to the Colonists that it was mentioned as one of the grievances in the Declaration of Independence: “He (the king)… sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.”

Since it was so important an issue to the Founding Fathers it’s not surprising that an Amendment was included in the Constitution that forbids the government from arbitrarily searching people, homes and businesses.

It was the Colonists’ experience with unreasonable searches and seizures and Otis’ speech that planted the seeds that grew into the 4th Amendment which reads:

“The right of the people to be secure in the persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

The 4th Amendment has been under assault before in our nation’s history. And that has been chronicled in other articles on this site. But now that right, guaranteed by our Constitution, is as dead as a hammer.

The most recent major assault on the 4th Amendment came in the wake of 9/11 when President George W. Bush proposed and Congress passed the USA PATRIOT Act, which was most unpatriotic.

In the Senate the act passed 98 to one. Democrat Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) was the lone dissenter. Democrat Mary Landrieu (D-La.) did not vote.

In the House it passed 357-66 with nine not voting. Sixty-five of the dissenters were Democrats. Ron Paul (R-Texas) was the lone Republican to oppose the bill.

Without getting into specifics, the bill gives government investigators almost unlimited power to conduct wire taps, eavesdrop, access and search records and enter homes in an effort to root out those it considers terrorists. The bill was couched in a way that led Americans to believe it was to be used only in the war on terror but, like all other government powers, it has been abused and used against Americans. In fact, some Americans have been charged with terrorism-related offenses through the Act even though their “crimes” involved nothing more than making innocuous threats, taking or possessing photographs or drawing pictures.

The travesty is that Americans, for the most part, seemingly don’t care. They’ve decided that government should be allowed to do anything and everything “if it makes us safer.” In fact, many commenters on this subject on this site have said as much. So the heavy hand of government has grown bigger and stronger — as government is wont to do — and the USA PATRIOT Act has been renewed and strengthened.

In the name of safety we have ceded our right not to be searched at airports… almost without a whimper. First we accepted removing our shoes and opening our bags. Then we gave up our lotions, sanitizers and water bottles. Then we accepted being frisked and poked and prodded. Then we accepted having our bodies irradiated and naked pictures being taken and ogled at and saved in the system — in effect allowing government to assume we are all criminals with plans to blow up an airplane — all in the interest of “safety.”

But here’s what really killed the 4th Amendment. Technology and government have taken the next logical step beyond airport scanners. American Science and Engineering, Inc., one of the manufacturers of the backscatter radiation machines now being employed at airports, has made the backscatter radiation system portable.

The Z Backscatter Van™ allows law enforcement to look inside vehicles, buildings and homes just like the airport backscatter scanners allow agents from the Transportation and Security Administration to peer beneath your clothes.

AS&E’s website says the van:

“…is a low-cost, extremely maneuverable screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections. The system’s unique "drive-by" capability allows one or two operators to conduct X-ray imaging of suspect vehicles and objects while the ZBV drives past.

“The ZBV can also be operated in stationary mode by parking the system and producing X-ray images of vehicles as they pass by. Screening can also be accomplished remotely while the system is parked. Remote operation allows scanning to be done safely, even in dangerous environments, while maintaining low-profile operation. The system is unobtrusive, as it maintains the outward appearance of an ordinary van.”

These vans and a more powerful, fire truck-sized version called the Mobile Search HE (high energy), are now on the roads in America. AS&E sold $242,093,000 of its backscatter imaging products in fiscal year 2010 with 63 percent of the sales in the United States, according to the company’s annual report. The company says 500 of the ZBVs have been sold.

The company’s main contractor — not surprisingly — was the Department of Defense, where the trucks were deployed in war zones. But the vans and trucks have been sold to other government entities — including states and municipalities — as well.

That means that, right now, ZBVs and Mobile Search HEs are prowling around our streets and towns looking into our cars, homes and businesses searching for something — anything — the heavy hand of government finds “suspicious.”

No longer are you secure in your “persons, houses, papers and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures.” Government agents can peer into your car, home and business and you will never know it until they show up on your doorstep flashing a warrant based on something they saw through the walls.

And not only are you no longer secure in your home, your thoughts — or future thoughts — are being probed as well. A University of Pennsylvania professor has developed software that the developer says can predict which individuals on probation or parole are most likely to murder or be murdered.

According to ABC News, if the software proves successful it could influence sentencing recommendations and bail amounts. It is being used in Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

And, of course, we already have “hate crime” laws in which judges and prosecutors deign to know the thoughts and motives behind criminal acts — giving the impression that a heinous crime is somehow even more heinous because the person harbors some type of grudge or bias.

Folks, we have reached the totalitarian regime foreshadowed in George Orwell’s 1984, where all that we do is watched and where even our thoughts have become crimes.

“The telescreen received and transmitted simultaneously. Any sound that Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper, would be picked up by it; moreover, so long as he remained within the field of vision which the metal plaque commanded, he could be seen as well as heard. There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable they watched everybody all the time. But at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You had to live — did live, from habit that became instinct — in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized.” — 1984, George Orwell.

No longer a thing of fiction, government has truly become Big Brother. What Orwell didn’t know is that the technology would advance to let Big Brother watch us even in darkness.

Our nation has become the Oceania of 1984, where history is changed daily, our actions are watched, our thoughts are discerned, our communities are decaying and we are in a perpetual state of war.

Buying Big Brother’s vow to keep us safe we have kicked the Constitution to the curb and if the Founders — who sacrificed so much for liberty — were alive today they would surely weep at our foolishness.

    I had recently took a trip on Alaskan Air and went through the regular routine, shoes, earings and hair clip off. But what sucked was when I got home, a little note was in my suit case that said it had been serched, it had been gone through without me watching. I felt violated, indeed.

    I too undestand the reason we are in this mess but,at least they could do it in front of me. I am sixty five and grew up in the late fifties and early sixties. To think my grandchildren will never live in an time like those days, makes me sick! Freedom is being taken away everwhere we look. Taxes so high we all will live like a Third World Country soon.

    We need another John Adams to rise up, and if needed, men and women who are willing to die for the sake of our children and grandchildren. Those of us over fifty have been able to live in this wonderfully Country and now Must Stand for what needs to be held on to for the next generations! Freedom of every kind and our Judeo Christian Principals! Everyone, I am not against people from other countries making their home here but they should adopt to our American Ways and learn to speak English. We have always been a Country made up people of many Nations and have kept to what this Nation was established to be! Glory to the Old USA! Stand up and be counted, Americans!

      Marci, security doesn’t have to come at the price of freedom- but we have been left with no choice due to the politically correct crowd. That crowd twisted the laws until our law enforcement was left with no other course than to support the curtailment of our 4th Amendment rights just so they can do their job. You want to express anger at someone? Go after the politically correct crowd; they are the ones that drove us to this point. These are the same people that feel a illegal should be entitled to all the same benefits and rights you have- because they are human too, you know! These are the same people that cry foul when law enforcement uses specific criteria to narrow the field of search when screeing for potential threats. These are the same type of people that have no problem with illegals stuffing the ballot boxes or a president blatantly defying the Constitution.

    Well the good news is that the 1984 system will collapse when the dollar collapses. People won’t be slaving in the electric companies that provide power for all those wonderful cameras when 5 hours of work is barely enough to buy a few slices of bread. Police will very, very quickly scream “EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF!!! like little girls as they did in Katrina’s aftermath and during the Rodney King riots. They will be cowering like little school girls and trying desperately to find food in the collapse rather than driving around some giant scanner for big brother. That is, unless big brother can feed them I suppose, but I have to beleive that even big brother’s control will slip up when $42,311,235,125 buys a slice of bread.

    If that doesn’t happen, then we have the solar storms in 2012 wiping out the power grid just as they wiped out the telegraph poles in the 1800s. Major scientists are saying we are a few years from being knocked back into the 1800s before electricity from solar storms.

    So rest assured!

    Preserve U.S. Sovereignty and Secure the Borders Now!

    Inexcusably, President Barack Obama recently escalated his ongoing war against Arizona, and nearly two dozen other states considering immigration enforcement legislation similar to Arizona’s S.B. 1070, and the people of the United States who have overwhelmingly called for the securing of our borders.

    On August 20, the United States, for the first time ever, submitted a 29-page “Universal Periodic Review” (UPR) to the UN Human Rights Council which outlines a laundry list of human rights problems allegedly committed by the United States. Contained within that first-time report to the UN, is a direct condemnation of S.B. 1070, legislation supported by an overwhelming majority of the American people, which seeks to do the job that the federal government has refused to do… secure our borders.

    Essentially, President Obama is siding the United Nations on sovereign United States internal affairs. Apparently his frivolous suit against the people of Arizona was not enough. It would appear that no action is too low… or too underhanded… when it comes to this administration’s never ending quest to shove a radical agenda down the throats of the American people. We don’t have a President- We have a Mafia Boss in the White House. He cares not a damn for the “Will of The People” and is in the process of attempting, by any and all means, to usurp the Powers of Congress and the Supreme Court, and consolidate them under the Office of The Presidency. “King Barak?” That is UNACCEPTABLE!

    The issue of border security is no longer simply an “immigration issue.” It has morphed into an issue of national security. Drug cartels are in the process of destabilizing the Mexican government and this rampant lawlessness is seeping across our border into the United States. The time for pontifications and half-measures is over. It’s time to stand up to President Obama, and for the American people. Secure the borders now, and remind Mr. Obama that he works for the CITIZENS, not subjects, of The United States. We don’t work for him! I, for one am tired of the “Hype and Chains” that is being forced upon us.

    If President Obama refuses to do the job that he was hired to do, and is actively engaged in Sedition and/or Treason against the United States, as he appears to be, then it is high time that the Articles of Impeachment be brought against the President, and any member of the Congress who fails to execute their Oath of Office, to protect AND defend The Constitution of The United States against ALL enemies, Foreign AND Domestic. And while we’re at it, we need to initiate actions to remove the US from the UN, and the UN from the US. The organization has become a self perpetuating, corrupt “country club” and den of thieves, and an albatross around the neck of the nations of the world. It is no more than a platform for anti-US sentiment, and we simply don’t need, and can no longer afford them. Let some other nation house, and support their meddling and corruption.

    the images the airport scanners get include the person heads. tho they supposedly dont include the facial features as well. one of there spokespeople claimed its not an invasiion of privacy cos it doesnt include ppls facial features in the images. well, they lied to us about not keeping the images. they may well lying about that as well .

    after 9-11 we needed something to protect us from threats but the big wigs in dc have trampld on our rights. do they have to go thru the inspection at airports? probably not because they have their own planes. the rules do not apply to them. as long as we keep our heads in the sand they will keep doing what they want to us. this is not the country that our fathers and grandfathers fought for for our freedom. instead of fighting wars over seas we are fighting one here and the enemy is our own invasive government. until we get them under control we will not have the country that our familys before us had fought so hrd for. with all the “security tools” the government have now we should all be very afraid of “big brother.” i know i am.

    Maybe it me, and maybe Im wrong, but this doesnt bother me at all, because I could care less if the government knows my every move, as I have nothing to hide, and it impairs my freedom none at all. Now if I were dealing drugs, kidnapping people, hauling weapons and illegal things, then I would be crying bloody murder. But since Ive nothing to hide, I could care less. If it catches one muslim terrorist ready to blow up something, then its all worth it. But I dont have the paranoid scare about being watched. Maybe if they watched me enough, they would learn how the common man lives, and get in touch with reality.

    You fail to look at the second and third order effects of NOT allowing these simple searches to occur. I would be willing to bet that all of you that decry these safety measures would be the first to point your fingers at the government and blame them, the airlines, and the TSA (granted, the latter consists of a bunch of McDonald’s and Wal Mart rejects) for the next terrorist act that occurs involving commercial airliners. You cannot have it both ways. We have tried using “common sense” to screen, but then they get sued for “profiling”. Again, you can’t have it both ways. I am 100% for profiling- because it works! The liberal left decry it as “discrimination”. Sorry, but if I am hunting ducks, then I look for fowl with webbed feet, feathers, and a beak. I may occasionally startle a goose or a swan, but I most certainly shouldn’t be bothering cows, goats, deer, and moose……I am hunting duck for crying out loud! The liberal left can’t seem to get that one through their heads. So, what we are left with is no choice but to make EVERYONE, regardless of whether or not they have feathers, be eligible for my duck hunt. THAT makes no sense. So, if you want to restore our full 4th Amendment rights, you need to address the fact that profiling MUST be allowed in place of a blanket policy. Profiling is not “unreasonable”- if an individual fits a certain criteria, then they are checked. This is not unreasonable- what is unreasonable is Grandma and the 8 year old boy being frisked while mom has to sip her own breast milk just to prove it is what it is….meanwhile, the group middle eastern males with one way tickets, paid for in cash, bought at the last minute, on nearly expired student visas (yet have no college that they can name), and no luggage are allowed to pleasantly walk by- for fear of causing a scene and a political black eye. You want to complain about something- complain about that.

    We have been warning people about this for years .When they started ramping up this foolish and failed war on drugs we warned that doing urine screens would lead to the erosion of the 4th we warned people that these DUI check points forcing people to ‘SHOW THIER PAPERS’ we warned people about the feds getting no knock warrants etc etc and no one listened .So here we are right where you where warned you would be if you helped support this foolishness in the name of a phoney war on drugs that our own govt says its fighting all while it has been repeatedly caught smuggling those drugs in to our own country .Well i hope you all are happy now and that all you who ignored the warnings and supported them in these facist actions get exactly what you desrve

    Your country is only as good as the people in it. Enough said? We have lost our way. No more HONOR – principles or true Christian faith left. It’s all about power, money, greed, etc. From top to bottom. That’s why we’re losing our country. Thus, the push to “take our country back”. Those folks see the downslide from politicians and the public – to “grab” whatever they want and damn the laws, the honor, and the righteousness our founding fathers struggled to obtain. This is your America now. A country divided – giving in to anything that comes down the pike – and the citizens (includes tea party people) are trying to scream in the wilderness, only to land on deaf ears and totally misunderstood meanings, that we need to get back to what our founding fathers wished for this country.

And don’t drive because that’s your Right not to drive so they can track you with the sat GPSs built into cars, and don’t talk on the phone..because if you have nothing to hide you won’t care anyhows. And dn’t show ID when getting a train or bus ticket..and can’t pay in cash..because you are excercising your Right not to. And don’t forget….when they build that wall on the border…don’t try and go over it to travel outside the US…because walls keep folks out, and folks in. Don’t forget to carry your ID with you when you walk to the store (because you excercised your Right not to drive)..because that little ol’ law they passed in some state was carried out…to the letter. And it breached that barrier against having to have a National ID. And that lil ol harmless law against allowing “immoral’ stuff on the ‘net? Well…seems they widened that as well since it went on the books without opposition from the Christian Right. And the protests against a mosque on private property? Seems that set precedent for other restrictions on private property rights so why oppose it later when you support it now?

        I live in dairy country and I can tell you first hand, times are changing. Young men are no longer willing to do the hard work of pitching hay and herding the cattle, and even if they were willing, their parents don’t want them going out at 4:00 am to do the work.

        A recent study found that there is a shortage of tradesmen in America. It seems that many of our young people don’t want to be plumbers or electricians anymore. They want the glamorous, high paying jobs and their parents are willing to send them to college to get them. Shoot, even the kids have stopped working like we did. I made good money as a kid doing yard work around town, but I can’t find a jr. high or high school kid to work in my yard. Those high school classes in woodworking, auto mechanics, etc. are disappearing. Everyone wants to be a stock broker, or a lawyer, or even a CSI tech. If this study is correct, then what makes you think Americans will pick lettuce?

Search the middle easterns – they are the ones that bombed us and if they don’t like it – let them stay home. As for the immigrants not being criminals, you better check that out. I live 3 miles from the Border and there is all kinds of “crap” going on down there. Just yesterday they had 3 bombs go off in a town close by in Mexico. They come over here because there is nothing to steal over there. Before you say anything else, check our jails and see who is there. I’m not saying we don’t have Americans in our jails but down here it is more than double with the illegals.

        A good friend of mine is of Italian decent, but with her olive skin tones and thick, dark hair she is pulled out of line almost every time. Even when it’s just a shuttle from LA to San Francisco the ask her to step out, they go through her luggage and give her “special” treatment. So “Search the middle easterns – they are the ones that bombed us” doesn’t work. In fact, who’s to say that the next bomber won’t be another Tim McVeigh?

        The whole point of this article is that none of use deserve this treatment, unless there is something to suggest that we are a threat. So far, this sort of activity has been limited to plane travel, maybe the train. Here we have evidence that those who trust no one are ready to move, not just to ALL forms of transportation, but from the sound of this article, they will be watching everything we do!

        The last time they re-upped the Patriot act, I recall arguing with many of you about why it was a bad thing. I was that crazy Lib who didn’t seem to understand that I had nothing to fear if I hadn’t done anything wrong. I complained about the President and members of the Democratic party who were voting for it, and was told that they were right this time. And here some of you are, still telling us Libs how stupid we are. Still gong on about the need for safety trumping all. If this had been about the government using the latest electronic advance to track gun owners, most of you would be screaming about your second amendment rights, but since it’s not, your willing to ignore the constitution. I guess there are only a few amendments you really care about.

        You know, it’s hard to fit into a pidgin hole. There are some government programs that I support that you might consider giveaways, but there are others where I’m sure we agree. Then there are those darn shades of gray. I know that welfare and health programs have their problems, and I accept the fact that there are those who cheat the system, but I don’t think we can go back to the pre depression era where everyone was on their own.

        My wife works in the not-for-profit world and we are amazed at what lessons need to be taught. It’s hard to believe that so many people in this world don’t even understand the importance of washing their hands before eating! We could say that it’s not worth the money to try and teach these people, but then we get a cholera outbreak and everyone is at risk.

        On the other hand, do we need to have military bases in every country? I support the military and believe in it’s importance in defending our nation, but should we be subsidizing the rest of the free world? We have it very good in America. Even the worst off among us have it better than some parts of the world. But I admit that there is a point where we have to stop and consider the cost to our own.

        As for the subject at hand, no matter what steps we take, if a terrorist really wants to take down a plane, they will. We can all fly nude and send our baggage on a separate plane, but it won’t stop a shoulder mounted missile launcher. And the way the arms manufacturers are raking in the bucks theses days, how hard is it to get ahold of one? Is it really any harder than putting together en elaborate scheme to take over the plane? So let’s stop giving up our freedom for a false sense of safety. I have nothing to hide, but that doesn’t mean that I want everything in my life to be public.

It is not the Patriot Act itself, it is the poor oversight. Again, we wouldn’t need the Patriot Act if law enforcement was allowed to openly profile- gee…that’s how crime is solved! They even have whole departments dedicated to profiling criminals in the FBI- but that is discriminatory according to the liberal left.         At Miami Airport almost all that work there have Spanish accents. It is tough to take when they are questioning you about leaving the country for a month and going through your suitcase, asking how much money you have on you, and looking over your DVDs on the assumption you are a criminal for no apparent reason.         See my comment about the highly professional pool of employee candidates the TSA uses…..I actually had to call a friend of mine in D.C. a few years ago because the TSA dolts at Holleywood Intl. completely lost control of their checkpoint, yet tried to bully me when I pointed out the huge hole in their security that was going to cause me to miss my flight. The supervisor was all in my face, even after I presented my credentials, until HIS boss got a call directly from DC. Gee…then it was a completely different attitude….and they called in 10 more “agents” to sure up the checkpoint and fixed the problems I pointed out. It shouldn’t take connections like that to get professional performance from these guys.

        If my suitcase goes through the scanners why are they going through my suitcase. I am not boarding a plane. It is not the accent, it is the realization that people allowed in this country to work and live are now questioning my right to be in this country. That may be their job but I don’t have to like it. I think few would even care that much about illegal entry into the country by non crimminals if they were not coming here by the millions. 1 out of 8 babies born in this country are from parents here illegally. The whole city of Miama has been taken over by those born in a foreighn land. I do not feel America can survive open borders.

        Several years ago, I had a guy with sores all over his arms going through my underwear and other clothes. Now, mind you, I have sympathy for whatever suffering his health problem may have caused him, but going through my underwear? It was disgusting. I washed all my clean clothes again when I got home.
        That brings up something I’d like all the woosies out there to think about. What has caused the most mass deaths of anything throughout History (excluding Dictators)? Disease is what. Think about that next time you have these people randomly handling your personal items. But they are wearing rubber gloves, you might say. Do you think that Bacteria and Viruses don’t hitch rides on rubber gloves? The rubber gloves might give some protection to the wearer, but they give no protection to the rest of us.
        Government is all about the illusion of safety. For instance, think about those tongs that we all use to pick up rolls or other items at the food buffet. If you want to get some nasty stares from others, just pick the roll up with your fingers. Yet, think about this: If you even put back the roll afterwards, it has the germs carried from your fingertips. But those tongs have the germs from everybody who has handled them previously. I would rather take my chances with one or two persons that may have touched the roll, than with every previous person that has handled those tongs.
        Note that I am not even remotely a germaphobe. I give that example solely to illustrate how we can be led to think we are safer when we really aren’t.

        Airliners (even including the terrorist attacks) are responsible for less than 1% of the deaths that are caused by automobiles. So, should we ban automobiles? No. If you are afraid of dying, don’t drive. That is your right. But don’t saddle the rest of us with your fears.
        The same goes for flying. If you fear a terrorist bombing, and want to feel safer, either don’t fly, or lobby for an airline company that will cavity-search you to your fullest desires. But don’t saddle the rest of us with your fears. That is what Freedom is all about – Free Choices.

      The original purpose of the patriot act was to allow the FBI to use wiretaps and monitor surveillance communications to thwart terrorism attacks. It was never intended to be used as a convenient tool for law enforcement to step over the line to invade the privacy of American citizens. This tool when used properly can help immensly to deter situations that could lead to another 911 disaster. There is a small flaw in our right to privacy, it also gives Bin Laden’s boys cover for their dirty work of murdering innocent men, women and children. Simple legislation to come down like a ton of bricks on any law enforcement official who violates or abuses the rights of innocent people who are wrongly targeted as part of a terrorist group could be a starting point. WE THE PEOPLE are faced with a persistant murderous terrorist attitude and if we do not want to give up a little freedom to allow FBI or CIA surveillance then our consequence is even worse, we have to risk wholesale murder to our citizens by Muslim extremist. As a nation, we have more to worry about with Obama and the liberals pushing for more expansive govt that now controls 60% of our economy. When the govt owns or controls most of the resources, there is a danger to our freedoms because we are no longer protected by the constitution and the rule of law because the politicians then make our decisions for us.

        I agree that Obama should try and do something about the Patriot Act, but I doubt he will. Remember, it’s the congress that will have to make the changes, and I’ll bet that the Republicans would go after the President for being “weak on terror” if he even suggested giving us back our rights. Plus, it’s another one of these issues where the Dems know they would never get the votes, so why expose yourself.

    Is there any doubt that we do not have leaders in Washington? This situation has existed for many years, but its symptoms took generations to become obvious. Is there any doubt that we have elected, domestic enemies who have sold their souls to do what no invading army could do?
    Note the profound silence coming from the White House and Congress. Note the deafening silence coming from America’s ‘media.’
    I can’t predict what will happen, but it does seem fitting that politicians in the near future will find reasons to find other careers and avoid politics. It seems fair.

It helps keep people more reasonable by making it hard to abridge American’s rights.

I do however have a problem with portable vans that scan me. The biggest problem is that we don’t really know what freedom is. Freedom is the ability to make a bomb or whatever. The government should not be able to do anything to you until you use the bomb. as long as we allow or have the mindset that the government should be proactive in stopping crimes then we give ALL freedoms up. there is no middle ground, no gray areas. And I doubt that the porno cams would have caught the underwear bomber unless he had something else in his underwear that caused the security voyeurs to look harder.

        I am very disappointed in Obama, he is mostly following what the shadow government has all laid out for us like it or not.

        I do not think any President has much real power. Do you really think Bush was in charge?

        We should have woke up when our government decided we did not have the right to know who killed JFK our president. All records were sealed, WHY?         You are right about the people have a right to know. Perhaps the majority of the people are just not that interested in knowing anymore because they are too “dumbed-down” with attention diversions from the mainstream news media and idiotic television programming. The majority of people are only concerned with details of their petty lives and feel content to let numerous government welfare and benefits programs take care of them and show no interest or participation in what the “shadow government” controllers are doing to them. And the “controllers” know how complacent they are — else all the things happening would not have happened.

        But first you need to understand that the real “controllers” are the ones who control a nation’s money system. And who is that? The coalition group of private bankers who own and run the Federal Reserve banking system. History has proven many times that the fall of any nation (such as the old Roman Empire),as one example, was preceded by an economic breakdown caused by debt. And the economy of the U.S. and its debt is worse than that of Greece. We have passed the point of no return. And what are the American people doing about it? Little to nothing.

        Fourth Amendment rights are being infringed upon? Yes. But those infringements did not apply to President Obama. A man who has admitted several times in public forum speeches that he is “not American” and was “not born in the USA.” You can see that with your own eyes on taped videos now on YouTube. See and hear him admit those things. So he has broken Constitutional law requirements to be President of the United States with fraud and nobody is doing anything about it. Why is that? Federal laws should have been in effect from the beginning — and even covered in the Constitution — to automatically remove and prosecute government officals, especially high-ranking government officials for such law-breaking frauds — and no formal impeachment proceedings requiring a majority votes from both Houses need be necessary. And, Carole the president does have powers. One of the most misused ones is the power of Executive Orders which the current president used immediately after he was sworn in to write an EO that prohibits anyone having access to his personal records (school records, birth certificate, etc.). Now, presidential EOs equate to the power of dictatorship, which a president should not be. An important question that should be fully investigated by a Senate Hearing (if those mean anything anymore) is how was this man allowed to run for the office of Senator, much less the Presidency in the first place. Are there no validations done to qualify candidates for such high offices. This president admits he was born in Kenya, had citizenship in Indonesia growing up arranged by his step-father, and is not American but is Muslim. How did he become a candidate for public office in the first place? Did the “shadow government” puppeteers put him there? His presidency is
        invalid now and from the beginning! Why doesn’t the State Department or the Justice Department or the Supreme Court or the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Pentagon, or all of them collectively, just send in a military guard and escort him out of the Oval Office and out of the White House. His fraud violates the highest law in the land.

        Carole, did you see the movie, “W.” directed by Oliver Stone? You can be sure that Stone does detailed research when he makes a movie like this. When you see this film, how can you help but ask yourself, “How did such a flawed, misguided, father-complex individual like George W. Bush get elected to the presidency of the United States. The same applies to William Jefferson Clinton. Clinton and Obama (his made-up name) were simply good public speakers and could impress the “dumbed-down” American public and the “puppeteers” know that is all it takes to fool the people.

        Well, “fellow americans” as LBJ used to love to say, we are already in big trouble. America has been thrown into the toilet and the handle was pushed and the swirling waters are on the way down….because American citizens became too complacent since the end of WWII and do not bother to keep themselves concerned and informed about what is going on home and in the world. Speaking of the world, are you not aware that those real “bad” guys we called Nazis who initiated WWI and WWII are rapidly rising again. Now we do not call Germans “Nazis” anymore do we, even though the American Nazi Party likely still exists. Nevertheless, people Germany is again the strongest economic power in Europe and have managed to position themselves in authority control of NATO and the European Union (EU). Watch them start flexing their military muscles again in the future.

        Carole, do you have any advice as to what we Americans can do to reclaim our country? Perhaps we need some very, very strict processes of qualifications to run for the office of the presidency? We have had enough bad presidents, haven’t we? Seems like everything really went to “hell” during the last election.

The Deceleration of Independence does start with “We the people…” When are we the people going to wake up and head off the disaster that is Washington DC. We the people have to take back the United States and back to where the founding father envisioned it. Those people in Washington have forgotten their oat to “defend and protect the constitution of the United States,,,” What they are defending and protecting is their power. Each and everyone of them at one point or anther come to the realization that they are powerful and they come to enjoy that power. Unfortunately we the people do nothing to stop it as exemplified by Mass. continually sending a person who committed a homicide to be their representative. We the people failed in our responsibility to ensure those who govern are beyond reproach. The only way to stop that is by limiting the time these corrupt people have in Washington.

        Doug… Not only limit their time, but cut their salary, expense accounts, office budgets, perks, and pensions! Most everyone says this can’t be done because they vote their own benefits. Well, it seems to me that congressmen work for the states they represent, so why can’t the States set the pay and benefits? Set at a reasonalbe amount, this might eliminate the greedy ones and bring out the real patriots that want to serve their people. Get rid of lobbyists, too… all they are is arm twisting, bribing flunkies.

        You might study their voting record. ;) Even that can be suspect cause the parties routinely arrange for the representatives to vote in a way that suits their belief in what their voters want.

        So read what they say then how they actually vote and what they say in congress not just on the campaign trail. Untangling it can be messy at times but it can be done.

        Had more people actually read what Obama had written (and his voting (“present”) record) fewer people would have been enthralled.

      The worst of it, no one seems to be even talking about, the huge amounts of radiation those body scanners use!!! Going through one of them several times, almost certaintly gives you thyroid cancver!! Even Dental xrays can give you thyroid cancer, my dentist covered my neck with the lead blanket, before doing an xray, and it was there I learned of the horrific danger…A body scanner gives you a dose 400 times what you would get in a lung xray…but being part of the population reduction group, they really don’t care!!!
