NY governor to push for renewed talks over proposed Islamic center The conflict over the controversial NYC Islamic center — to be located just blocks from Ground Zero — is showing no signs of abating. In the latest development, New York Governor David Paterson said he would meet with the developers to discuss the possibility of relocating the project, which many opponents say offends the sensibilities of the relatives of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

"We are working with the developers on a staff level but there have not been any formal discussions between the governor and imam or developer," said Paterson’s spokesman Morgan Hook. However, he added that the governor’s team hopes to schedule a meeting "in the near future."

This remains to be seen, since a representative of the developer, SoHo Properties, has already gone on record saying the sponsors of the mosque had no plans to relocate the project.

Meanwhile, The Council on American-Islamic Relations has urged members of the Muslim community in America to report any harassment of worshippers during the month of Ramadan. It stems from recent incidents in which protesters targeted mosques in California, Connecticut and Virginia.

"Special emphasis should be placed on developing a positive working relationship with local law enforcement authorities and government officials who may be contacted if protesters go beyond the Constitutionally-protected right to free speech in a public area," the Washington, D.C.-based civil rights organization said. When Israel first encountered Islamists in Gaza in the 1970s and ’80s, they seemed focused on studying the Quran, not on confrontation with Israel. The Israeli government officially recognized a precursor to Hamas called Mujama Al-Islamiya, registering the group as a charity. It allowed Mujama members to set up an Islamic university and build mosques, clubs and schools. I think “the elites” have designed this to occur with their welcomed immigration of muslims, approval of an islamic mosque at Ground Zero, and unfair policies to CAUSE a DISTURBANCE.

Why… what would be gained?

Well, I think the ruling class/progressive (means communist)gov will then pass Legislation to BAN “ALL openly religious practices.” …POOF… the end of openly Christian practices/rights, because we will scream for equality and a stop to muslim intolerance. Instead of making religious rules fair and giving the Christians their rights back, gov will do what they do best – regulate and kill rights – and this will lead to ceasing of private Christian practices…

Israeli construction crew members bulldoze their way through a Muslim burial ground, reportedly removing hundreds of gravestones and injuring a protesting Arab.

The team on Monday rampaged through graves in the ancient al-Quds (Jerusalem) Maaman Allah cemetery, carrying on until Tuesday, the Palestinian Ma’an news agency reported.

“The destruction is related to the issue of renovation. The Israeli establishment does not want us to renovate the graves so it is destroying them,” said Mahmud Abu Atta of the Al-Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and Heritage, which is responsible for the oversight of Muslim religious sites, AFP reported.

Sorry to disappoint you. I have a friend I was acquainted with since I was a child (I am 58 now). He is living in Israel. I am getting the truth from him. One example of the Palestinians and Israelis: Israel gave the Gaza strip to the Palestinians about a year or so ago. They even pulled protesting Israelis out of their homes. How did the Palestinians respond? Not by saying thank you. They shelled them with more rockets! You give them an inch, and they will take a mile. There are many instances of Israelis giving in in hopes of obtaining peace. The Palestinians are the ones who want war. And FYI, it has been written long ago that you will know you are in the end times when people turn their backs on Israel.

This is more than just an issue of religious rights. They could build that Mosque any where. Why are they so insistent that it be there. No one is saying that they can’t have a place to worship, we prefer that it not be there. If I own the land around a Mosque, I would have the RIGHT to build a brewery, dog kennel, hog farm and strip joint around it.Just because we have a RIGHT, sometimes doesn’t make it right. You are so right. The Muslims have not been persectued because of their religious affiliations, they have not been told they cannot worship as there are already 100 Mosques all over Manhattan. That is religious freedom.

They want us to be tolerant of them and their needs and we have been. It is now time for them to be sensitive and tolerant of our needs too. This is what causes peace and healing, give and take on both sides.

So far it is always us who have been giving. They have foot washing basins in the Air Port and a room for them to go pray. They have these same facilities at most colleges now, and they tell the Christians that we cannot mention the name of our Lord or even pray before we eat, as we might ‘offend’ someone. There is no religious freedom for us, but since they demand it, they get it.

I am not saying that they shouldn’t have religious freedom, I am saying we should all have religious freedom, but at this point and time we don’t.

Again, now we are asking them show us a little tolerance and respect and honor our wishes on this.

The next question is, what religion is practiced, Islam 100% with a few exeptions that allow other religions but they have very few rights and have been ridiculed, beaten, killed, all because they believe in another religion. Several years back a private land owner named Bod Hope was going to sell his land for development. The community came out against it very strongly and Bob Hope changed his mind. NOT because the Gov’t. made him do it, but because it was in great disfavor with the community. Bob Hope wanted peace and good will for his name sake back.

Legal landowners are denied the ‘right’ to use their own land as they see fit all the time. Especially if they want to violate zoning laws, create eyesores or build things that might be considered dangerous to other landowners (like dams, creating hazardous dumps or toxic holding ponds). There are rules, even for landholders. Neighborhoods protest landuse around their homes for proposed zoning changes (industrial, commercial, etc) all the time. So it isn’t just a matter of what the person who owns the land wants to do with it.

Mayors and Governors are being paid off for this one. We all read
between the lines and they know it is wrong to build it there. I will
always remember being in a doctors office and a nurse coming out and
yelling look at what is going on. Everyone froze. This was not our

time that the Mayor of New York really knew why he was put in office,
